Chapter 1: Izou
Notes:
Hello everyone, this is a small new fic consisting of many One Shots
This fic will be about Ace being unable to hide his scars anymore, and having to tell the Whitebeards about them and why he use to self-harm. Individual chapters will deal with telling a member of the crew, or their reactions, though some will be about everyday life for Ace, including its trials.
Disclaimer: The idea for this, came from RosaLeeLeader’s story called ‘Long Sleeves’ on Fanfiction.net, with Young Justice and Wally, where Wally is the one with the secret and his scars are revealed.
Hope you enjoy

Chapter Text
Ace sighed, grabbing the clothes Izou gave him to try on, thankful that Izou let him change in peace. The other said that he had too little clothes and needed more, but of a different style. Ace disagreed, but eventually caved in and said yes, just to get the other to stop asking. He liked his green, long sleeve shirt and yellow pants, and signature belt and hat. It was him. He now had a small bracelet with the Whitebeard’s mark on it, since he hasn’t gotten the tattoo yet, having only joined them a week ago. He had joined them in his head before that, he just didn't admit it before then. He needed a bit to think after revealing who his father was to Whitebeard. It was hard to say that. Ace slowly got out of his pants, liking to change that first, not wanting to look at his arms. He hated how they looked.
“How’s it going?” Izou called out. Ace tried to figure the pants out, having a bit of issues with the belt thingy, but managed somehow. “Okay.” He called out. He took his jacket and shirt off, before grabbing the a red shirt Izou had handed him, with a bunch of others, trying that first, getting it stuck on his bracelet. Damn, he didn't have time for this. The sound of curtains rustling had him panic, trying to drag it on and reach for the sweater. “Ace, how are you n....” It was ended with a gasp. Ace managed to get the shirt down and hid his arms behind himself, looking startled at Izou, feeling… scared. He didn't want them to know.
“Ace! What is that?! How did that happen? You're fire! I mean, you can scar!” Said Izou in shock as he moved to grab his arms to take a closer look. “N-no!” Managed Ace, not wanting to reveal his secret, or his feeling about them being seen.. When Izou tried to move closer, causing Ace to panic, disappearing in fire, just transforming to a fiery streak and getting away, escaping the situation, and running to his room, not changing from his fierly self until he was safe. He couldn't deal with this. He had just recently joined them, he didn't want to them to find out, to think less of him… to be ashamed of him…
He managed to take some deep breaths after finally entering his room, quickly changing the new short-sleeved shirt to another long-sleeved one, he already owned . He didn't have many, the reason he was with Izou, but he had a few. It was a comfort to have the scars covered, letting his hide his past. The relief, however, was short lived, as a knock on his door was soon heard. “Ace? Please let me in. I just… I just want to make sure you're okay.” Ace didn't completely believe that, but knew if he didn't, Izou would get one of the other division commanders, and Ace really didn't want that.
He took a moment to think up a story that would explain the scars, and have the commander let the issue go. When he opened the door, the other looked confused and worried, making Ace feel unsure about lying to him. “Ace, why did you run? And what was that?” Ace turned and sat down on the bed, the process giving another moment to think. “I don't like when people get too close, and invading my personal bubble, so I just left.” He had not left, he had run away, but he wouldn't admit that. “Let’s pretend that I believe that,” Started Izou, “I know I saw something on your arms, what I believe to be scars, which I’m concerned about, concerned about you!” Ace gave a shrug, or tried to give a shrug, wanting to act nonchalant. “When I set out on the sea and became a pirate, I was young. They are nothing more than the usual wounds you would expect anyone of our lifestyle to obtain.”
He knew he failed when Izou looked at him in disbelief. “No! Don't even try shrug this off with that nonsense. I know you ate your devil fruit when you were young, and it would stop you from getting harmed, or at least from the worst of the damage, and cauterizing any wounds so that it wouldn't scar too badly. So, how do you have scars like the ones on your arms? And don't you dare lie! ” The last part was said as Ace tried to answer, going to come out with a new lie. He needed Izou to just let this go, to leave. But, he obviously wouldn't.
Ace tried to open his mouth, no idea what to say or do. He couldn't lie, but he didn't want the other to tell everyone. “I-I Y-you c-can’t tell. Anyone.” Izou frowned, but nodded. “Okay.” Ace took a breath, not sure how to tell, already scared of how he would react, struggling to find the words to explain… any of it. “I- I didn't have it easy when I was younger. So…. I… I used…. used to c-cut myself… I’ve stopped! Really! But… scars…” Izou looked stunned and… worried? “Can I look? They looked bad.” Why did he want to see them? Hadn't he seen enough? But, he didn't want to make the other annoyed. Ace gave a small nod, rolling up his sleeves and stretching his arms out towards Izou.
Izou gave another small gasp, gently holding Ace’s hands, moving his arms to examine the many scars. Ace hated this. Ace hated how his devil fruit didn't heal self-inflicted wounds from the past. “I- wow.” Started Izou. “I get why you wear long sleeved clothing. I’m glad you’ve stopped, and I’m sorry that you felt the need to do this as a child Always remember, you are loved and accepted here.” Izou looked at him then, looking a bit stern, but concerned and worried. “I won’t tell, anyone, but you will. They need to know, deserve to. How can we help if we don't know? You're family. ” Ace didn't think the others needed to know. It was enough with Izou knowing. “I don't want to.” Izou gave him a comforting look. “I get that. But, they deserve to know. We just want to help you, want to know, get to know all about you. ” No, Ace would never admit to that, never say yes to that, even if he knew the other was right. He didn't get why.
But, he knew the other wouldn't let this go. He had heard stories from others on how the crossdresser was, on how he never backed down. And, he didn't want Izou to tell everyone about this. Ace gave a nod as he sighed, knowing he needed to do this. “O-okay. I’ll try…” Izou nodded at him approving and comforting. “It will go fine. We all care for you, and we need to know. No one will judge you for it. And, should someone be less than charitable about it, tell me and I’ll deal with them.” Ace gave a small nod, too overwhelmed with this right now. He didn't want this.
When the other had left, Ace didn't know what to think or do. He didn't want to do this. Didn't think he needed too. But, he knew how Izou could be. Just, who should he tell first? How should he tell?
Ace had no idea.
Notes:
And that's the chapter, hope you enjoyed it
This might be the first of many to come, which will be a mix of Ace telling different individuals and their reactions to it, as well as general, everyday life, for Ace, and its new trials now that other know, and they might change how they act around him. The next chapters are going to be better and longer
And no, I have no idea what story I am doing next. At the minute, I am just writing whatever I feel like, or what comes to mind. Hoping to shake off the writer block and finally get back into a normal cycle of updating again, and continue all the stories. Hopefully, that will be soon. . I’m working on the next chapter to amnesia, it’s just going a bit slow right now.

Chapter Text
“Nice. New sweater?” Ace gave a small nod, still worried and hesitant about what he needed to say, but he had promised Izou. “Yeah… Izou made it for me. It’s just a shirt, he made it with sleeves and it’s a breathable material that is less flammable.” Ace loved it and he didn't know how to thank Izou. The crossdresser said he didn't need anything, but Ace felt he should do something to repay his kindness. Ace shook his head. He should worry about that later. “That’s nice. Izou is amazing with clothes and art, and, well, everything really. If I could only incorporate them into one of my pranks somehow. It would be so great, but Izou would be furious, and therefore, very, very scary.” Ace smiled. Thatch was the usual happy-go-lucky guy, which made this much worse… he didn't want to make the other sad, or mad, or for him to pity him. He hated that. When people found out about it, they would always walk on eggshells around him. They treat him like he’s weak, preventing him from doing anything; or worse, simply ignore him, thinking that he’s too much of a burden, or liability. But, most of all the sight of his arms always seemed to unsettle people. How hi-. “Oi! Ace! Okay there?”
Ace blinked, realising he got lost in thought, seeing Thatch looking at him worriedly, having stopped doing the food preparations. “Yeah… I just… I… I have something to tell you.” Thatch dried his hands on his apron, before grabbing a new cloth, throwing away the older one. “That sounds ominous. If you pissed Marco off, don’t expect any help from me, kiddo.” Normally, Ace would have laughed and joked at that, as he usually drove the older commander crazy with his antics. But, he couldn't. What if… What if Thatch didn't want to play pranks with him after this? What if he thought him to be too weak? He loved the pranks they played. Ace was startled out of his thoughts by a hand on his shoulder. “Okay, kiddo, you're worrying me now. What’s up?”
Ace gave a breath, no idea what to say. Maybe, just say it? Or… maybe that wasn't a good idea. He didn't want to ruin the friendship he and Thatch had. He loved it, cherished it. He felt like he belonged here and didn't want to ruin it, but needed to tell him. He had promised. Maybe, just come out with it. But, not too subtle or abrupt.
“I used to cut myself.”
Yeah, real smooth Portgas, thought Ace as he did a facepalm, mentally. He did not intend for it to come out that way. Thatch looked stunned and shocked. “Wha- you what?! Why?” Ace gave a shaky breath, seeing Thatch looking at him with worry and uncertainty. “I just… Didn't have it easy growing up. I mean, none do, most don't, I just…” Ace didn't know what to say next. But, he didn't get a word out as Thatch moved and was suddenly hugging him tight, shocking him. “Don't think that. What might be a scrape to me, can be deadly to you. Or what you can brush off, will stick with me. I’m just glad you're here.” Thatch slowly let go of Ace, before clapping him on his back. Ace felt a lot lighter having told him, I seems that it did help a lot. “Now, let’s make some food for you. You look a little drained. Whilst we eat, we can plan how to annoy birdy tomorrow. Sound good? ”
Ace nodded. “Yeah. That sounds perfect. And, thanks.” Thatch gave a small chuckle and told him to not mentioned it, before they both began to prepare some food together. Thatch didn’t even ask to see the scars, and even knowing that he use to self-harm, he still wants to be around him and plan and play pranks. That’s more than he could ever ask for.
He didn't lose a friend. Not for now at least. It felt good to have told him. It was now done.
They fell into a comfortable silence for a few minutes before they started discussing different plans on how to prank Marco. Ace loved that Thatch hasn’t seemed to have changed, acting and treating him the same. It wasn't the first time they’ve had a private meal together. Sometimes a few others joined, but never too many. Just as Ace liked it. He loved these small and simple moments.
When they started eating the second dish, Thatch sent him a small look. “I need to ask, though. You're not doing… that anymore, right?” Ace shook his head, looking down at his plate. “No, I’m not… It’s just… the lasting effects; the feelings… the scars…” He got a thoughtful nod in return. “May I see..? I don't need to. I’m just worried about you.” Ace understood the underlying motivation behind that request; he wanted to check that he had really stopped hurting himself. Ace gave a small nod, but was still unsure. He didn't like showing them, but knew that he should… Thatch didn't prod or mention it for the next few minutes, letting Ace think it over and decide for himself whether he was comfortable enough to show him them. He gave a breath, before he slowly rolled his sleeves up. He could feel Thatch looking at him, having a shocked and concerned frown.
After a second, he felt a hand touch his arm. “What’s this?” Ace slowly looked down, certain that Thatch would be pointed or feeling one of the longer, or deeper scars.. But, when he looked down, he blinked before a small smile appeared on his face. Thatch was tracing his thumb over a faded, half-done tattoo line. Ace brought a hand to it too, over the one underneath it, that was blue, and much more faded, being not as visible. “It’s from my brothers: Luffy and Sabo. They told me to ‘not kill the butterflies’.” It was one of the best memories he had with his scars, and knowing just how they had cared about him. Thatch nodded. “That was a good idea. Sounds like they are amazing brothers. But, Sabo? I don’t think I’ve ever heard you mention him before.”
Ace felt himself regress, lost in his memories, once again seeing how Sabo died. That was why a few of the butterflies were dead. “...He… died…” He found himself unconsciously moving his thumb over a ‘killed’ butterfly, having a cut through it. The one underneath was overlapping the same scar, one Luffy had given him a bit later, along with some additions from Makino… even Garp… He felt his eyes grow blurry, and before he knew it, he was enclosed in a hug again. “That- losing a brother is never something one wants to happen, especially at such a young age. It shouldn't happen. Just getting through that is always hard. Never be afraid to let your emotions out, or in front of people. There is nothing shameful about simply feeling something, anything..” He remember getting really low after losing Sabo, and didn't want to show Luffy he was sad. It was easy to hide the emotional pain with another kind of pain, one he chose and controlled.
Ace took a shaky breath, glad Luffy got him through it. When Thatch let go, Ace used his shoulder to wipe a stray tear, before a small sniff, to rid his eyes from the worst of the blurriness. Thatch didn't comment on it, which was something he liked. Thatch sat down again, and when he did, he grabbed a piece of chicken from his plate. “So, how should we prank feather brain?” Ace gave a small laugh, using a hand to dry his eyes as he pulled his sleeve down. He just loved Thatch. He was an amazing brother. He didn't want to speak more about Sabo or his past, and the chef seemed to get that. When he moved to pull his other sleeve down, Thatch did mention that he didn't need to, that the scars didn't bother him, and that he liked the butterflies. Ace gave a sheepish smile as he continued to pull his sleeve, the rest of the way down. He wasn't ready for that yet.
He then started to plan with Thatch, on how they could manage to sneak into Marco’s room and plant a nest in his bed, and joke about it.
Ace loved his family.

Chapter Text
Ace didn't know what to do, he felt overwhelmed. First, he had gotten more clothes from Izou, a bunch, and he didn't know what to do with that. Then, his room was suddenly redecorated with bunch of flowers, finding out that was from Vista, which he also didn't know what to do with. Vista hadn't reacted much to the fact he had told yesterday, then suddenly this. Actually, he hasn't reacted at all, just said a calm ‘I hope you're done with it’, which he was. But now, it was starting to get too much. Not that that was enough, but Izou had given him hugs all the time. Don't get him wrong. Hugs were great. But, when one was on edge, a hug was sometimes… too emotional, too sad, too opening and close… too whelming. It made him feel vulnerable.
But, the worst, was after his and Thatch’s regular private meal, Izou and Namur joining. It was nice, but he felt like Thatch and Izou might get something was wrong, but didn't bring it up, thankfully. But, when they were done and Ace was heading back to his room, Marco stopped him, looking annoyed. Apparently, Thatch had played a prank alone on him, which he knew about was this morning. But, since Marco just found out as it was with his paperwork, he thought Ace had joined since he had been away with Thatch the last couple hours, eating. But Marco didn't know that, and blamed it on Ace.
Usually, Ace would have said, and even joked, on how slow Marco was at times. But, today he couldn't. He just felt… hurt… too vulnerable. It was just way too much. He wasn't able to respond to Marco, sure he would breakdown if he did, he felt his eyes were blank, his voice was gone, and head spinning. Marco just looked mad. So, when Marco looked away for a second, Ace ran. He couldn't take more of this. He ran to his room. But, his room didn't feel like his room anymore. It wasn't his room, it was so much new things. He felt as if the walls were closing in, suffocating him. He hadn't felt like this for a while, he didn't like feeling like this. He couldn't go out, he couldn't deal with everyone. He needed a break.
With that, a decision he had made, he ran away. Not just from his room. He took his beloved Striker to the island a bit away, needing away. He made some shaky and unsure motions to the one on boat watch, Rich, who told he couldn't leave. But, Ace needed too. He needed away. When he got to the island, he felt guilty. Guilty for leaving, guilty for being overwhelmed, for having done what he had in his past. He found a safe space under a tree, close to a rock, looking at the ocean. It was all too much, and moved his legs to his chest, arms around, and put his head down, feeling tears falling.
He wasn't sure he could handle this all.
---x---
Marco sighed as he landed on the island. From what Rich had said, Ace was here. He wondered why Ace had ran away, actually ran away from the boat, but he would wait and see what Ace said. Something had to be wrong. As he was walking, Marco soon saw Ace sitting against a rock under a tree, looking to be crying, head down in his hands that was around his legs. He looked small and young. He was young, the youngest in the crew, but he looked much more young now.
Marco moved and sat down next to Ace, seeing the other tensing a bit. “Hey,” He said, looking at Ace, who didn't answer. “You have a nice place here, yoi. Good view too.” It was a really nice view, especially with the Moby in all its glory a bit away. He looked back at Ace when he heard him mumble something he couldn't hear. “Sorry, one more time, yoi.” He heard a sniff, making him right when he thought Ace was crying. “ It wasn't me. The ink.” Ah, the stupid prank Thatch had played. “I know. Thatch told. I’m sorry for blaming you, I should have asked.” He really should have. But, he was mad since he though all his work was ruined, but Thatch was just an idiot. Ace gave a small sniff again. “ I’m sorry. ” He heard Ace mumble then, and before Marco could speak, Ace mumbled something more. “For running. I know I shouldn't.”
Marco sighed. “Normally, I would agree on that, yoi. But, something is clearly bothering you. You didn't run to have fun, that I don't like. You're clearly overwhelmed, or pushed, or something that made you need to leave.” Ace gave a small nod and sniff, sitting up with his head as he wiped at his cheeks and eyes. It was clear he was overwhelmed. “What’s bothering you, Ace? Something made you need to leave, yoi.” Ace gave a puff of air, obviously not sure what to say at the start. “ Eve-” Ace cleared his throat. “Everything. It’s just… I feel a few was too… overbearing and pushy. I know they mean well… it’s just… I feel they are doing it because of...” Ace ended with a small sigh, hands tightening around his legs. Marco felt, whatever this was, was not something usual or that he knew. This was bigger. “What Ace? What is bothering you? Maybe I can help, yoi.”
Ace somewhat shook his head, looking at the distance. “I don't want to disappoint you.” Marco blinked. “Ace, look at me.” Started Marco, doing his best to sound and look comforting. “You never will. I will never be disappointed in you. Right now, all I am is worried. Something is obviously bothering you. I just want to help. That’s what family does.”
Marco was concerned for Ace, no idea why he was acting like this. He never had before.
---x---
Ace took a breath, no idea what to do. He needed to tell Marco. He couldn't just say no now, not after he had even followed him here. He was just scared that Marco would think less of him, be disappointed in him. He was bad at a alot, and bothered Marco a lot. He didn't want Marco to think he was bad at everything. He really liked Marco. He was a perfect big brother and a really good friend.
Ace gave a breath, trying to figure out how to tell. “I just… don't really know how… to tell. It’s hard…” He wasn't looking at Marco, but could feel a look on him, before it went away, a small breath being given by the older man. “Some things can be hard to tell. But, getting it off your chest can help, yoi. I can also do my best to help. But, without knowing what it is, there is nothing I can do. I don't like seeing you like this. Whatever it is, is really bothering you.” Ace felt a small smile grace his lips. Marco always knew what to say, the reason he liked him.
Ace let a breath out, knowing he needed to tell. “It’s just, that when I was younger, things wasn't easy, and I didn't know how to deal… And I started dealing in a… bad way. I wanted the pain away, the emotional and all the burdens… so I changed it with another pain…” Ace gave a breath, knowing he needed to say the next part too. “I started to… cut myself…” There, he said it. Now, he just needed to wait for Marco to respond.
he heard Marco breathing in. “I’m glad you told me, Ace. Is this the reason you ran here?” Ace gave a small shrug. “Kinda. Izou found out… and said I needed to tell, and I’ve told a couple, and they’ve… changed a bit today… It just got too much for me for a minute. Even my room was changed…” Marco nodded. “I get it. I get it could become too much. And I get why you ran here. But next time, don't run away, try and find me and we can head to my room. It won’t change.” Ace nodded, giving a thankful look to Marco. “Yeah, I will try. Sorry you had to come all the way here.” Marco shook his head. “No, it’s fine. We all need a break now and then, yoi. And it gave us the opportunity to speak.” That was true. Marco then moved a hand to his leg. “I also hope you're done with that, yoi.” Ace nodded. “I am. I just… I just have… scars left.” Marco nodded. “That's why you always wear a sweater.” Ace nodded. “Yeah. I always feel ashamed.” He did, and he didn't like it. The scars reminded him of all the bad periods in his life. Marco sighed. “I know a few who have done the same, and try not to feel ashamed. It is what kept you here, kept you going, yoi. It’s a bad habit, but it got you where you are today. One I know said it was the only thing that kept him going, if not, he wouldn't be here.” Ace nodded, glad Marco got it. He was a smart man. “Y-yeah. I don't like to be reminded of the bad times.” Marco nodded. “I get it, but try and not be ashamed. It is you, and we love you, even with your scars. Do Pops now?” Ace shook his head. He hadn't dared to think of telling Pops. He knew he needed to, but it would be hard. He didn't want the man to be ashamed of him, or think less of him. But then again, he had thought the same about Marco, and he handled it fine. Marco let out a breath. “I don't make the choice for you, but you should tell Pops next. He deserves to know. And I know he will not think any less of you, so don't be scared. He will be worried, but know he will care and be there for you.” Ace nodded. He probably should tell Pops, he needed to do it sometime anyhow, and might just get it over with.
Ace then turned to send a smile to Marco. “This was nice. Do we need to head back now?” Marco hummed. “We can stay here for a bit more. We got an hour maybe, before the others get too worried. And I am sure those who made you overwhelmed feel bad and will apologize. Just be honest to them.” Ace nodded. “Sounds good, and I will try.” Marco nodded, seeming glad by that.
They then stayed at the island for another hour, enjoying the good weather and just speaking about this and that, before they returned to the boat, everyone glad to see him. He did tell Izou, Thatch, and Vista why he had left, being open about it and they seemed to understand it, telling they were sorry. Pops also seemed worried, but Ace promised the man he would speak with him later. He needed to face it and do it. He would try and do it tonight.
Things were going fine.
Notes:
And that's the chapter, hope you enjoyed
I can also make more of Marco and Ace in later chapters or in the one shot series
Also, a few have said this is an unrealistic story as someone would never force, or suggest, anyone to reveal something as sensitive as being a previous self-harmer, and I would like to hear what you think of this story, if it’s a good story or not
And I love feedback too; it is what keeps me going!

Chapter Text
Ace took a breath as he moved towards the main deck, knowing Pops was out as Marco had said so, just meeting him as he walked out. And when he got there, Pops gave a look to him. “Ace, son, what brings you out so late?” It was late, closing in on midnight, and most were inside as it was chilly outside, having their own party. Ace took another breath. “I just… I could… I would like to speak with you.” Pops nodded. “Of course, son. Want to do it in private?” Ace nodded, he would like that. Pops nodded too. “That's fine, let’s head to my room.” Ace nodded and headed after Pops, heading to his room. When they got there, Pops sat down in his chair, while Ace sat down in a smaller chair, not that far away from Pops.
When they were seated, Pops looked at him. “Now, son. You wanted to speak with me?” Ace nodded. He did, and he needed to find a way to find his words. He was still scared to tell Pops, but he hoped, and tried to tell himself, that it would go fine. “Y-yes. It’s about why I ran away earlier…” He had done that earlier today, he knew he wasn't supposed to run away, but it gave him the opportunity to speak with Marco, which he needed too. It had felt good to speak with Marco. Ace shook his head a bit, he needed to fokus. Pops gave a look to him. “Why did you run away, son? You've never run away like that. You didn't do it to have fun. I hope nothing bad happened to make it happen.” Ace sighed. Here goes. “It’s just, people got a bit overbearing. They meant nice, they really did, but it just… got too much.” Pops nodded. “I get it. A few can be like that. Why did it get overbearing? Why did you need to run away? Run away from us?” Ace let out a breath. “I didn't mean to run away, I just… needed a break from everything. And my room… I would have run there, but it had changed.” His room was back to normal now having spoken with Vista earlier, who apologized multiple times for what he did, but it was fine. He only meant well. “Why did your room change, son?” Asked Pops, making Ace sigh. “It was Vista, he filled it with flowers. He did it since…” Ace wasn't sure if he could say it. Pops moved a hand to his leg. “Because of what? I know Vista is fond of flowers.” Ace sighed again. Here goes.
“When I was younger, I didn't have it easy. Not that everyone does. But… things were hard for me, and I needed a way to deal with it. And I found a way…” Ace stopped for a second, needing to take a deep breath, Pops sitting silent as he did. “That was… it was to… harm myself. I don't know why it helped, but it did.” Pops nodded slowly, a worried look on his face. “How did you harm yourself?” Ace took a deep breath. “I- I used to cut myself.” Pops nodded. “I see. How does this connect to Vista and you running away? You have stopped this, I hope.” Ace nodded. “I have, I promise. But, Vista found out- I told him- same with Izou, and Vista gave me all these flowers, and Izou gave me all these clothes, and kept hugging me. It just got too much… then Marco yelled at me...” Pops frowned. “Why did he yell at you?” Ace sighed. “He thought I messed with his paperwork. It wasn't me. We’ve spoken about it. I also told Marco about the…” Pops nodded. “That's good. I’m glad you told me, son. Is this why you always wear a sweater?” Ace nodded. “Y-yeah. I have a lot of scars.” Pops nodded. “I get it. May I see? I want to see that you are fine.” Ace nodded. He should show Pops, he deserved to see, he was his father after all. Ace moved to take his sleeve up, showing the mass of scars to Pops, who had a worried frown, before a hand moved to trace one of the butterflies. “What is this? I didn't know you had a tattoo, or tattoos.” Ace nodded. “I do. It’s from my brothers, the ones I grew up with. They placed them on my arm and told me to not kill them."
Whitebeard nodded, and his finger moved to a butterfly that was killed, making Ace let out a breath. “I killed a few… when… Sabo, my brother, died when I was young.” Pops gave a comforting look. “I see. I am sorry you lost your brother. But know we are all here for you, and love you, even though you have your scars. It doesn't change what we feel about you.” Ace nodded. “I know. Or I try and tell it to myself. I just feel… ashamed.” Ace moved his head down with that, and it wasn't long before a finger came and lifted it so he could look at Pops face. “Don't feel ashamed. You have nothing to be ashamed for. You have scars, everyone does. You got yours doing a thing you shouldn't do again, I would much rather you come to one of us, be it night or day. We don't want you to hurt yourself.” Ace nodded. “I won't do it again, I am done with it. I just don't like the scars.” Pops nodded. “That's good. And the scars are a part of you. Don't be ashamed of that.” Ace sighed. He knew he should, but he felt awful for having done what he did, and lowered his head a bit. But it was soon lifted again as Pops moved a finger under his chin, lifting his head. “Know you never need to be ashamed of past mistakes. It is the past, we need to look at the future now, not the past.” Ace nodded, feeling a smile grace his lips. Pops knew what to say to make him feel better.
He then sat and spoke with Pops a bit more, before he left to get some shut eye, and as he was walking to his room, he met Marco again, who gave a hum to him. “How did it go?” Ace nodded. “It went fine. We had a nice chat.” Marco nodded. “Good good. Who are you thinking of telling next?” Ace sighed. “I don't know. There's so many here.” Marco nodded. “I know, but know we all care for you.” Ace nodded, feeling a sheepish smile go on his face. “I know. That's what makes this so hard. I feel bad about this.” Marco nodded. “And I get it. But we would never judge you for past mistakes or action, yoi.” Ace nodded, he knew that, and Pops had said the same. “I know, and I will try my best. It is just a lot to take in.” Marco nodded. “I get it. I do. But know we would never think any less of you, yoi.” Ace nodded, that was what he was scared of, to be thought less off. But he trusted Marco, and he knew everyone cared. He just needed to find out who to tell next and work his way around. He spoke a bit more with Marco, before he left to his room, feeling well. He had managed to speak with Pops, which was everything.

Chapter Text
Marco walked out on deck, going to overlook those on duty, and as he was walking over deck, Izou moved over to him. “Hey Marco, could you check on Ace?” Marco blinked at Izou. “Why me, yoi?” Izou sighed. “I just, I saw him barely, but I am sure he had blood on his sleeve. I am just worried, if he…” Marco nodded. He got it, if Ace had cut himself, or otherwise harmed himself. “I will check, yoi.” Izou gave a thankful look to that, and Marco headed to find Ace, ultimately finding him at the back of the ship. It was still early, so not many were out. When he found Ace, he checked him over, seeing he looked like himself. “Ace, yoi.” Said Marco when he was close, making the other turn to him. “Marco, do you want anything?” Marco nodded, seeing Ace’s sleeves, and his left one, did have some blood on it. That was worrisome. “Yes, let’s head to my room, yoi. It’s personal.” Ace nodded and headed after him.
When they got to his room and Marco had closed the door, Ace looked at him. “What is it, Marco?” Marco took a breath. “Are you hurting yourself again?” He would be blunt about this, not beating around the bush. Ace blinked, before he frowned. “No, why do you think that?” Marco made a motion to his sleeve. “You have blood on your sleeve, yoi.” Ace blinked, looking at his sleeve, before he sighed. “It probably happened when I was shaving. I nicked myself and used my sleeve to dry it off.” Marco nodded. He could probably buy that, but he would still need to see. “Can I check?” Ace nodded. “Sure.” Ace then dragged his sleeves up, before he showed his arms, rolling them to show them entirely. There were no new wounds on his arms, which made his story truthful. “I’m sorry for assuming, but I needed to check.” Ace shook his head. “I get it, I would have checked too. It only means you care.” Marco nodded. “I’m glad you think of it like that. Many might have felt put on the spot, as if we didn't trust you, yoi.” Ace smiled. “I know you care, and this shows it. I am done with harming myself, I haven't for some time.” Marco nodded. “If I may ask, how long ago?” Ace sighed. “About 5 years. I had a small relapse back then. It wasn't as bad, but still.” Marco nodded. “I am glad you're done with it and fine now. You should change your sweater.” Ace nodded. “I should. I’ll see you later, Marco.” Marco then went and found Izou, telling Ace was fine and he had just nicked himself while shaving, the reason he had blood on his sleeve. Izou accepted the reason, especially when Marco said he had checked his arms, finding no new wounds on them. Izou did mention he had mentioned it to Pops, as he had asked why Izou looked so worried before, and he had told he was worried for Ace, giving the reason why. It was fine, and Marco would be sure to speak with Pops when he had the chance.
---x---
Ace walked out on deck, not feeling tired enough to sleep. As he was walking around, he met Marco once, who was out on watch, and they had a small chat, before he headed on. He then headed to Pops’ chair, Marco having mentioned he was out. When he got over, the man gave a smile to him. “Hello, son. How are you?” Ace hummed. “I’m fine, just couldn't sleep.” Pops nodded. “I see. Izou was quite worried for you before.” Ace sighed. “Yeah, I get it. I don't know why I wanted to shave, I don't need to do it as I can just burn it away. But, I wanted to try. I shouldn't have wiped the blood with my sleeve.” Whitebeard nodded. “Don't feel bad. It happened, one doesn't usually think and they just do it automatically.” Ace nodded. He hadn't thought about it, the reason he didn't think to check if the blood was visible. “Yeah. But, it went fine. It means a lot that they checked, it means they care.” Whitebeard nodded. “It does, and we do. You are important to us, as all my children are to me.” Ace nodded. He liked to hear it. He hadn't had many close to him, and here he was, with many close ones, people that cared for and about him. He felt loved and cared for.

Chapter 6
Notes:
Hello everyone, here is the next chapter
This is about Haruta and how she react to finding out
And a question to everyone, who do you want to be the next one to find out?
Hope you enjoy
Read and relax
(See the end of the chapter for more notes.)
Chapter Text
Ace had just gotten Haruta to a private place, so he could speak with her. He had decided to tell her next, as they were close. Haruta had asked what he wanted, and Ace took a deep breath, knowing he needed to continue now. "I didn't have it easy growing up, and I found a way to cope." Haruta nodded. "Okay, and what was that?" Ace took another breath. "I used to… harm myself." Haruta blinked. "What?! Why?!" Ace shrugged. "In some weird way, it helped with the pain I felt inside me." Haruta blinked again. "But how does that make sense?! It doesn't! Why would you do something like that!" Ace sighed. "I don't know, but it did…" Haruta looked bothered. "I don't get this. Why are you telling me this?" Ace took a breath. "Izou found out, and told me I needed to tell those I care about."
Haruta nodded. "But how did he find out without you telling?" Ace took a third breath. "I… I have a lot of scars. And he saw them…" Haruta nodded slowly, looking more bothered with that. "I- I don't know what to say. You harmed yourself?! That's wrong!" Ace sighed. "I know, I know. It was wrong of me." Ace actually felt worse as each second passed, thinking he shouldn't have told Haruta so suddenly. Haruta took a breath of her own. "I just, don't know how to react." Ace nodded, he got it, but didn't like it. He would like a reaction, be it good or bad, not just this unsureness. "I get it… But I wanted to tell you, so you know. I mean, I care about you and don't want to hide this." Haruta nodded. "Okay. I just, I need to think about this." Ace nodded, he got that, and would let Haruta do that. He then bid goodbye, not getting one back, and they parted ways.
The next few days were hard for Ace. Every time he was close to Haruta, she would walk away, clearly ignoring him and not wanting to be close. Sending him unsure looks all the time. It made him feel bad inside. Like he had messed up. He liked Haruta, she was kind and funny. But now it was as if she wanted nothing to do with him. It made him feel low and sad. He didn't want to ruin their friendship. He liked Haruta a lot. It was after a week of feeling low Izou cornered him. "Why do you seem so down?" Ace sighed, he should tell the other. "I think I messed up."
Izou blinked, before she frowned. "Don't tell me you did anything bad?" Ace was on his way to say he might have, when he got what Izou was hinting at. "Not like that. ...But I told Haruta, and since then, she's been avoiding me… sending me looks… and not wanting to be around me." Izou blinked. "What?" Ace nodded, before he repeated it, and when Izou asked how he had told her, he told how the conversation had gone, and it had Izou frown more. "Oh, I'm going to have a chat with her." Ace blinked. "Please don't. I don't want to make this worse." Izou shook his head. "Oh no no no. This is not on you, but on her. She should be able to handle this in a good way, not like this! Let me speak with her, please." Ace sighed. "Fine. You can." Izou nodded. "Good, I will when I get a moment of peace with her and we can be alone." Ace nodded, hoping this would help. He felt like he had royally messed up. He just wanted to fix this.
-x-
Izou moved up to Haruta, it having been 2 days since he had spoken with Ace, and hadn't had a time to speak with Haruta yet. But he had seen how she had looked at Ace at times, and it really wasn't fine. But after seeing the looks and how she was avoiding Ace, he had had enough and grabbed Haruta by her arm and dragged her to his room, closing the door behind them. "Izou? What is this about?" Izou gave a stern look to Haruta. "You're avoiding Ace! And giving him bad looks! Why?!" Haruta blinked, before she sighed. "I just, don't know what to do." Izou blinked. "You don't need to do anything. You just need to accept it." Haruta moved her hand a bit. "How? How can I do that!? He used to hurt himself! " Izou nodded. "I know that. But he's fine now. He is. You acting like this is just making things worse. You're actively avoiding Ace and sending him looks. How do you think that makes him feel? You're making him feel bad." Haruta blinked, before she got a sheepish look. "Oh, I didn't think about that… I just feel unsure." Izou nodded. "I get that, but don't take it out on Ace. He doesn't deserve that." Haruta gave a small nod, not saying anything.
Izou moved his hand to Haruta's shoulder. "Ace is fine now. He is. This is all in the past, but he has lasting effects, the reason he told you. In case you should ever see his arms. Don't change, Ace doesn't want you to change. He likes you for you, and you need to do the same." Haruta nodded. "I will, I will speak with him." Izou nodded. "You should. See that Ace is fine." Haruta nodded. "I will. I didn't mean for him to feel bad." Izou nodded. "I get it, but you did. Now you need to fix that." Haruta nodded. "I will. Thank you for speaking with me." Izou nodded. "It's fine. Just fix this, or you need to deal with me." Haruta nodded. "I will try and fix this. I will speak with Ace." Izou nodded. "Good good. You have 2 days on you." Izou didn't want this to take all the time in the world, so he gave a time limit. Haruta nodded, and they parted ways, Izou hoping Haruta would fix this fast.
-x-
Ace walked out on deck, just walking around and enjoying a good day. As he was walking around, he stopped when a voice spoke up behind him. "Ace? Could we talk?" Ace turned around to see Haruta, and nodded. "Sure." He hoped Izou had spoken with the female, as he didn't know what to do to fix this. They then headed to Haruta's room, and when they were inside and the door closed, Haruta sighed. "I'm sorry for being so non-understanding lately. I just didn't know what to do. I didn't mean to make you feel bad." Ace nodded. "It's oka- or not. I mean, I really felt bad. I really like you and our friendship. I didn't want to ruin it." Haruta shook her head. "And you didn't. I just needed time. I just didn't know what to do with the information you… used to harm yourself." Ace nodded. "I get it, I mean, it's not normal."
Haruta shook her head. "But still, I'm sorry. I was just shocked and worried, and didn't know what to do, so I avoided you until I knew… I realise that was wrong of me." Ace nodded. "It's fine, it's fixed now. Right?" Haruta nodded. "It is. I might still need a bit of time, but I won't avoid you anymore. I'm sorry I did." Ace shook his head. "No, it's okay. I get it. I am just glad we're still friends." Haruta blinked. "Our friendship wouldn't have broken because of this! I really like you!" Ace smiled with that. "I am glad to hear that. I was worried." Haruta then moved to hug him. "Oh no, I wouldn't give up our friendship because of that." Ace hugged back. "I am glad." They then let go and spoke about small things, before they parted with a goodbye for now. Ace was glad it was all fixed, that Haruta would stop avoiding him and send him looks. Things were fine.
The next few days were fine and Haruta acted like herself, which was good. They were still good friends, and that was good. Izou had fixed it for him.

Chapter 7: Interlude Wound
Notes:
Hello everyone, here is the next chapter
This is another small interlude
Hope you enjoy
Read and relax
(See the end of the chapter for more notes.)
Chapter Text
Ace moved away from the sword, but it still hit his shoulder, grazing him. It was a seastone sword, so it made a wound, but it wasn't a bad wound. The battle then rounded up as they won, a few getting some serious damage and was led to the infirmary. But as everything calmed down, Jozu frowned at him. "Ace, you're bleeding." Ace blinked, before he remembered the wound, shrugging as he looked at it, knowing it wasn't too deep. "It's no biggie." Jozu nodded. "I know, and the infirmary is probably full, but let me look at it. Take your sweater off." Ace blinked, before he felt his insides grow cold. Take his sweater off? He couldn't do that. Ace shook his head. "No no, it's nothing. I'll just look at it in my room." He tried to say and play it off as nothing. Jozu shook his head. "No, don't be a brat, let me look." Ace didn't know what to do or day, he couldn't take his sweater off. There were so many out, and just a few knew about his scars. He didn't know what to or say to get away. And he was just about to run away with his powers, just shoot away as a flame, when Marco took a step towards him. "It's okay. I can handle it, yoi." Jozu frowned. "But it's just a minor wound." Marco nodded. "Which is why I want to handle it. I have what I need in my room. What will you dress it with? Your sweater, yoi?" Jozu nodded. "True, you handle this." Marco nodded and moved a hand behind his good shoulder, moving towards his room.
When they got there and Marco closed the door behind them, Ace moved a hand to his chest. "Oh God, I was so worried I needed to take my sweater off." Marco nodded, moving over to his desk. "I noticed, and I think you don't want them to find out like this. Now, let me see that wound, yoi." Ace nodded and took his sweater off, looking at the wound himself. It wasn't a deep wound, so he didn't want to head to Bay. Marco then got some bandages out and quickly cleaned it before he dressed it. "By the way," Said Marco. "Have Bay seen this, yoi?" Ace shook his head, and it had Marco hum. "How? She has everyone new in for a check up, yoi." Ace nodded. "I kind of know that, but she never asked me. So I just never went." Marco nodded. "I think you should go to her, and have a check up. Always good to know what healthy you are, yoi." Ace nodded, he got that. "I should probably. Do you think she will care about…" Marco shook his head. "No. Or a bit, she will probably check and see if you have any permanent damage, other than the scars. She's probably seen this before, yoi." Ace nodded, that made him feel a bit better. "I shall try and head there during the next week." Marco nodded. "Good good. You should do it as fast as you can. She will be understanding, yoi." Ace nodded, that was good to know. He hadn't been much around Bay, as she was always in the infirmary, when she was not with Pops or out prowling the deck for Pops.

Chapter 8: Bay
Notes:
Hello everyone, here is the next chapter
This is Bay finding out as Ace needs a checkup
Who do you want to find out next?
Hope you enjoy
Read and relax
(See the end of the chapter for more notes.)
Chapter Text
Ace took a breath, standing outside the infirmary, Marco beside him. “It will go fine, yoi. You need to see her.” Ace nodded, he knew that. Marco had gotten him and said Bay was prepared for him as everyone had a checkup with her as they joined. This was something he needed to do. Marco then opened the door for him and said he would wait for him, which he was glad about.
When he got inside the infirmary, Bay clicked her tongue. “Portgas, as expected. Take a seat in this bed.” Ace nodded and did, and Bay dragged some curtains around the bed, so they had some privacy, before she looked at him. “Okay, before I start, any injuries I should know about?” Ace sighed, this was it. He moved to drag his sleeves up, before he showed his arms, and Bay gave a nod as she had a thoughtful frown. “How old are they?” Ace gave a shrug. “Most are like 10 years old, a few 5 years ago.” Bay nodded, checking them over. “You were young then.” Ace nodded. “Yeah… I didn't get it at the start, but it helped.” Bay nodded. “I have heard that. A very bad habit, but everyone says it helps in a weird way. Helps emotionally.” Ace nodded. “Yeah…” He still didn't like to speak about it. Bay then moved a hand to his arm. “Any times you felt your arm or fingers hurting afterwards? More than just the wound?” Ace gave a small hum. “Maybe one time, my middle finger hurt.” Bay nodded. “Do you remember which it was?” Ace nodded and moved a finger to one of the wounds on his left arm, one of the deeper ones that went through a butterfly.
Bay nodded, checking it, before she checked his fingers, asking questions as she did, before she clicked her tongue. “It seems you didn't do any permanent damage. You probably just grazed a nerve.” Ace nodded, that made sense. He was glad there wasn't any permanent damage to his nerves, he hadn't thought about this before now. Bay then checked the rest of his scars over, before she fetched a cream to help the redness and swelling. She then checked the rest of him and took a few tests, saying that he was healthy. He was thankful for that, before he left, Marco waiting outside for him. “How did it go, yoi?” Ace hummed. “Fine, it went by fine.” Marco nodded. “Good. And I assume you are healthy, yoi.” Ace nodded. “As far as Bay saw, I am.” Marco nodded. “Good, good. Let’s head to breakfast, yoi.” Ace nodded and they headed to the galley.

Chapter 9: Sabo
Notes:
Hello everyone, here is the next chapter
This is how Sabo found out
Who do you want to be the next person to find out?
Hope you enjoy
Read and relax
(See the end of the chapter for more notes.)
Chapter Text
Sabo frowned as he looked at him. “What's that on your arm?” Ace blinked, looking at his arm, and there was blood seeping through his sleeve. Ace moved a hand to cover it, hoping Sabo would push the matter. “N-nothing.” Sabo frowned more. “No, it’s something. What is it?” Ace shook his head, on his way to say nothing, when Sabo reached for his arm, and Ace did his best to avoid it, and soon, they were in a wrestle fight, rolling on the ground as Ace tried to hide his shame, he knew what he was doing was wrong, but he couldn't let Sabo find out about it. But after 10 minutes, Sabo managed to sit on his back and pinned him to the ground, moving to grab his arm and rolling his sleeve up. Ace closed his eyes, he didn't want Sabo to find out. “What is this! You're hurt!” Ace shook his head a bit. “It’s nothing.” He heard a disbelieving sound from Sabo. “No, this is a bad cut. How did it happen? ...why do you have many cuts? ...Ace… are you… harming yourself?”
Ace shut his eyes tightly, shaking his head. But before he could speak and deny it, Sabo spoke again. “No! This doesn't look like an accident! Why do you have so many scars!” Ace shook his head. “I- I didn't mean to…” Sabo gave a small sound. “Ace… you can’t do this. Why are you doing it!” Ace shook his head, feeling tears threatening to fall. He felt Sabo moving off him, sitting down beside him and Ace sat up as well, rolling his sleeve down. “I- I didn't mean for you to find out…” Ace had thought he could hide this. He had for so long, almost half a year. Sabo gave a worried look to him. “Why are you doing this?” Sabo sounded calmer, which was good. Ace took a breath. “I- I don't know…” Sabo shook his head. “No, you do. Why are you doing this?” Ace shook his head, moving a hand to his chest. “Because, it helps with the pain I feel here…” Sabo gave a worried look. “You… it helps with the pain in your chest? How?” Ace shook his head. “I don't know, but it helps. ...I’m sorry…” Sabo shook his head. “No no, I should have realised you were hurting. Wait here!” Sabo then ran off, and Ace moved his legs to his chest. He felt so low right now.
After a couple minutes, Sabo came back and moved to drag his sleeve up again, and Ace just let him do it. He didn't want to fight anymore. He didn't look up from his legs, not until he felt something cold on his arm and moved to look, seeing Sabo had grabbed a marker, a blue one, and was making some sort of shape with it. “Here, don't kill it. Don't kill the butterfly.” Ace blinked when Sabo was done and had made a butterfly, before he made another, and another, and another. After half an hour, he had a bunch of them on his arms. It made him feel tears in his eyes, so glad Sabo was as supporting as he was. He was sure Sabo would be mad at him, but he only seemed worried. “There,” said Sabo when he was done. “Don't kill them, I hope they will last for a long while.” Ace hoped that himself, but it was just a marker, it would fade.
Sabo then leaned in and hugged him, and Ace embraced it, feeling a tear falling, but he quickly dried it away. Sabo then gave a breath. “You need to tell Luffy.” Ace shook his head. “No, I-” Sabo shook his head, letting go of him. “Yes, you need to. You can’t hide this. If you won’t, I will. I will even tell Garp, Dadan, and Makino if I have to.” Ace felt worried with that, he didn't want to disappoint anyone. Ace gave a breath. “I’ll try… okay?” Sabo nodded. “You do that.” Sabo then leaned in for another hug, and Ace hugged back. He loved Sabo so much, he was such an amazing brother.

Chapter Text
Ace was nervous, he was a wreck. He knew what he needed to do, if he didn't do it, Sabo would. He needed to tell Luffy. If he had to choose between telling Luffy himself or Sabo doing it, he would want to do it himself. He didn't know why, but that seemed the best. So, he moved over to the couch, sitting down on it, next to Luffy. “Hey, Lu?” He started, making Luffy hum as he was looking at something he didn't really care about to see what it was. He was scared to have eye contact with Luffy right now. But he needed to try.
Ace took a breath. “Have you ever… felt pain in your heart? In your chest?” Luffy gave a small hum. “I don't think so…” Luffy’s face then frowned, turning to look at him. “Have you?” Ace opened his mouth, on his way to answer, when he didn't know what to say, so he closed it again, before he tried again. “At times.” Luffy frowned more as he looked worried. “Why?” Yes, why did he feel like this? There were people who had it a lot worse than him. Why was he so special? Why did he feel like this? “I don't know…” Luffy still had the frown and worried look. “What can I do to help?” Ace closed his eyes. Luffy wanted to help, Luffy was so good, so perfect, so innocent. He didn't want to ruin that. He opened his eyes when he felt Luffy move a hand to his face. “Ace? Why are you telling me this?” Ace took a deep breath, this was it.
“I don't know what to do when I feel like that, I don't know how to make the pain stop. So I need a pain that I can control.” Luffy frowned in confusion. “But you can’t control pain?” That wasn't true, he could control this pain, he controlled it, he chose it and it always went away and made things a bit easier afterwards. Ace took another deep breath. “If you… hurt yourself… you control that pain.” Luffy frowned, before he looked shocked and worried. “You… you hurt yourself?” Ace gave a small nod, he felt really low and ashamed right now. Luffy’s face somehow managed to frown even more. “But… why?” Ace moved a hand to his chest. “Because, it helps the pain I have here.” Luffy shook his head a bit. “But you can’t hurt yourself! It’s not good!” Ace knew that, but he didn't know what to do. “Can…” Started Luffy in a small voice. “Can I see?”
Ace closed his eyes, this was what he was scared about, Luffy wanting to see. But he felt he couldn't say no, so he slowly nodded and moved his sleeves up. He didn't dare to look at Luffy as he showed them, not wanting to see the look Luffy had, sure he would feel worried and bad and probably even mad. But after a few seconds, Luffy spoke. “Why are there butterflies on your arm?” Ace blinked. Right, he had forgotten about them. “Sabo made them, so I wouldn't kill them.” Luffy stared at him, before he gave a gasp. “I wanna make some too!” Ace blinked. Luffy did? “O- okay.” Luffy was already off half through the word, running to get a marker, and he started to make butterflies on his arms too. They weren't as neat as Sabo’s, but they were nice, and they meant a lot to him. His brothers cared for him.
When Luffy had made 4, he moved to look at his work, before he nodded and moved to hug him. “Please don't kill them! I don't want that.” Ace nodded, feeling tears in his eyes as he hugged Luffy back. “I won’t, I will try not to.” He felt Luffy nod. “Good, cuz I love you, Ace. You're my brother.” Ace hugged Luffy tighter. He loved Luffy, he loved him so much, him and Sabo. He could never leave them. He had the butterflies to prove they loved him. He just wished they would stay.

Sabo walked up to Dadan, as he had an idea he wanted to do, which he hoped would work. “Hey, do we have a tattoo machine?” Dadan frowned. “Why do you ask? Tattoos aren't for children.” Sabo shrugged. “Says who? I want to give Ace some.” Dadan rolled her eyes. “Don't care. Left drawer in the second room. Don't use all the ink.” Sabo nodded and went and got it, before he ran to Ace.
---x---
Ace blinked when Sabo came running towards him. “I fixed it!” Ace blinked. “Fixed what?” He didn't know of anything that needed fixing. Sabo grinned. “I got the tattoo machine! So the butterflies won’t disappear!” Ace blinked. Sabo had what? “Where did you get it?” Sabo hummed. “From Dadan. Now, give me your arms!” Ace didn't know what to do or how to react, so after some seconds, Sabo moved and grabbed his hand and dragged his sleeve up, showing all the scars and the faded butterflies from some days ago, Sabo didn't wait for permission before he started the machine and made the first tattoo, a concentrated look on his face. He made a mix of 4 butterflies, before he dragged him towards the hideout. “Now! Let Luffy make some!” Ace blinked. “What?” Sabo shook his head, looking at him as he dragged him. “Luffy needs to make some too! To show we’re here!” That… that was really caring, and he felt his eyes start to water.
When they found Luffy, Sabo explained that they could make tattoos, and said what it was and it had Luffy excited to make some, which he did. Still not as neat as Sabo’s, but they were still nice. When Luffy had made his, Sabo smiled at him. “Now! You just don't kill them!” Ace nodded, moving a hand to dry a stray tear. He would do his best to not kill them, to keep them alive and well. And he had a feeling he would get more. Sabo then blinked as he seemed to remember something. “Also, Garp will be here soon. You need to tell him!” Ace shook his head. “No! I won’t!” Garp would just be mad, and he didn't want that. Sabo shook his head. “No, either you do it, or I do it!” Ace shook his head. “Then you do it!” Sabo gave a look to him. “I will!” Ace didn't want that, maybe Sabo was just bark, and no bite. He could just hope, he didn't want Garp to find out and be disappointed in him. But, he could only hope.

Chapter Text
Ace sat in his room, not sure what to do. Garp was most likely coming in a few days, and he was really nervous Sabo would tell him about… the scars. It was only scars right now, nothing new. That was a win, right? He at least thought so. The urge was still there… but not as much as it had been. Maybe he was getting better? That would be a good thing. Sabo also hadn't mentioend anything or done anything the last week, him not sure if that was a good thing or not. But then again, Sabo had really shown he cared. Luffy had to, but he had a feeling he didn't quite get it still. And that was good, he didn't want Luffy to be sad or disappointed.
As he was sitting in his room and just contemplating… well, life, his door suddenly burst open. He expected it to be Sabo, but was very confused to see it was Dadan. “Dadan, what do yo-” Dadan cut him off. “Show them to me!” Ace blinked. “Show wha-” Dadan shook her head. “You know very well what!” Ace blinked again, and turned to look behind Dadan, at the door, where Sabo stood. Damn, Sabo had told. Ace hung his head, but did hold out his arms, and Dadan, very roughly, dragged his sleeves up, before she gave a huff. He then felt her feel the scars, before the hand left his arm and he heard Dadan bark out. “Give it to me!” Ace blinked. Give what? He dared to half raise his head and saw Dadan had moved to look at Sabo, a hand out to him, and Sabo gave the tattoo machine to her, and that made him blink again. Dadan… Dadan was going to make a tattoo?
When Dadan turned back to him, he hung his head again, not wanting to look at her. He then heard the machine come to life, before he felt the small stin of the needle on his arm. It lasted a bit, before the machine moved away and Dadan huffed. “Now you listen here! If I find or hear about this one dying, you're out! I don’t care where you go, I don't care if you have nowhere to go, you're out! Get it?” Ace nodded, head still low. Dadan then left with a huff, and when she was gone, he looked at Sabo. “Why did you tell her!” Sabo shrugged “You didn't. She cares, in her own weird way, about us.” Ace didn't quite believe that, just sure she cared for them since if she didn't, she would get Garp against her. and he didn't want that. But at the same time, she did make a tattoo, and he would be sure not to ever touch it. He didn't want to be thrown out. Sabo moved to sit down beside him and moved a hand around his shoulders. “Hey, it is fine.” Ace shook his head. “No, but okay.” Sabo moved to hug him. “We love you, Ace.” Ace nodded and took the hug. Maybe he could try and believe that.

Chapter 13: New Tattoo
Chapter Text
Hi guys! Here is the next chapter!
I know, I know, this is so damn late, and it is a short one, but I didn't want to make too many different things happen at once. I also didn't know it has been over a year since last update, time just flew
Hope you enjoy
Read and relax
Ace was in his room just preparing for the day as it was early, the clock just shy of 7am, and breakfast was at 7:30. As Ace was about to head out, there was a knock on his door, which made him blink. Who could this be? It was early. He moved to the door and opened it and was a bit shocked to see Izou there. “Izou?” Izou made a small motion with his hand. “Can I come in?” Ace blinked, but nodded and made space for him to walk inside, before he closed the door once Izou was inside, before Ace turned to him. “Is anything wrong?” Izou hummed. “No, I just wondered about something.” Ace nodded. “Okay, what?” What could he want so early?
Izou moved and showed a small bag he had and looked at him. “Can I make one?” Ace blinked, not sure what Izou meant, before he got it. “A… butterfly?” Izou nodded and Ace thought for a second. “M- yeah, sure.” Izou nodded. “You can say no.” Ace shook his head. “No, it’s fine. Make one. Do you have what you need?” Izou nodded and got a tattoo gun out. “I do. May I?” Ace nodded and held his hand out, and Izou hummed. “Also, don't watch. It’s a surprise.” Ace blinked, but did nod and turned his head. He then felt the familiar sense of the needles, and after a bit, him talking as Izou tattooed, Izou said he was finished. “There! You can look now.” Ace nodded and looked at his arm, and it was… colorful. And that made him blink. “I like the colors.” His other ones were just black. Izou nodded. “Yeah, so you know it’s mine! My own personalization!”
Ace blinked, before he looked at it again, and it kind of screamed Izou in a way. Izou spoke, which made him look at the crossdresser. “It’s fine if you don't like it.” Ace shook his head. “No, I really like it. I haven't gotten one in a while.” Izou nodded. “I can see that based on the age of the others, I just want to show that we care about you too, and I don't want you to kill them either.” Ace gave a somewhat strained smile. “I will try not to.” Ace wouldn't promise, as he didn't want to break it as he had with his previous ones. Izou nodded. “Should you ever, ever, feel the thought you want to harm yourself, please come find me, okay?” Ace blinked, but nodded as he smiled. “I will.” Izou nodded. “Now, let us head to breakfast.” They should.
Ace moved his sleeve down again, as he had dragged it up for Izou, and Izou gave an understanding look to him. “I know you feel ashamed of them, but we won’t judge you by them.” Ace nodded but looked a bit downwards from Izou’s gaze, he felt very ashamed of them. “We should head out.” Izou gave a breath, but said they should as he got Ace was uncomfortable. They then headed out towards breakfast.
And that's the chapter, hope you enjoyed!

Chapter 14: Urge
Chapter Text
Hello everyone! Here is the next chapter!
I know this is late, sorry about that
But here it is!
Hope you enjoy
Read and relax
Ace sat on his bed, not sure what to do as he felt really bad. Today was the anniversary of Sabo’s death and he usually had Luffy or Deuce to comfort him. But Luffy was still back on their island and Deuce was on Moby 2. Ace moved to lie on his bed on his back, hands over his face as he tried to not cry. This was his first anniversary of Sabo’s death without Luffy or Deuce and Ace felt so… awful. He felt sad, bad, and other things he didn't know how to name. As he felt he was failing at not crying, he moved to bite the inside of his cheek, until he bit off a small piece and the familiar taste of blood entered his mouth which made him realize he bit too hard. He knew he shouldn't do this and moved to clench his teeth so he wouldn't bite the inside of his cheek anymore. He hated this day so much.
After a bit, Ace just moving his hands a bit and clenching them to not just lie completely still, he didn't like that, he noticed something when his thumb went over his index finger and looked at it and saw he had a cuticle which was standing up. Just a small one, most likely since he had dry hands. He usually bit them off, don't ask why he did it like that, but that was how he did it as pulling them sometimes didn't work out in his favor as it peeled off some of his skin down his finger. He knew he should let them be, but he couldn't do that, that was impossible.
But as he was about to move the finger to his mouth to bite it off, he blinked, before he moved it down and looked at the finger. After a few seconds, he moved the other hand to it and grabbed the small cuticle and started to slowly pull on it. He didn't pull fast or hard and made it so the cuticle got longer and longer and made sure not to make it rip off as it moved down his finger. After almost half an inch some blood trickled down his finger as the familiar sense of pain washed over him. And not the ouch this hurt type of pain, but more in the sense this is a pain I control. He chose how much this hurt, and to be honest, it didn't hurt as much as it probably should have. But the same went when he cut… himself…
Ace got his mind with him and realized what he was doing was wrong. Yes, he wasn't using a thing to hurt himself, but he was hurting himself nonetheless. He shouldn't give into that urge like this. He moved his hand away and looked at his finger and he had blood trickling down it and the wound was maybe half an inch long, but since he had done it slowly, it was a bit deep. Not really deep, but for being a cuticle it was deep. As he looked at it he felt the need to continue to pull it or scratch at it, which made Ace move his other hand to cover it as he looked up at the ceiling. He shouldn't do this. After a bit, he didn't know how long, he stood up and headed out the door.
He, at first, was going to head to Pops, but it was really late and he wasn't in his chair and he didn't want to wake him up. So, he decided to go to another room and gave a weak knock, in case he was asleep. But Ace instantly regretted it at once. How could he explain this? What would the man think? Ace had hurt himself. As he was about to just run, the door opened and Izou stood there, blinking at him. “Ace? Why are you up?” Yep, Ace shouldn't have done this at all, but he had started this, so he took a breath. “I… don't want to be alone right now.” Izou blinked. Ace wasn't the one to seek out others like this usually, but he didn't want to make the thought to harm himself win. Or, harm himself much more.
As Izou was on his way to talk, his gaze lowered a bit and saw he was still holding around his finger and when Izou looked really shocked. Ace looked down and yes, blood was dripping down between his fingers. It wasn't much, but it was there. Probably since it had been a few minutes now. And based on the horrified look, Izou knew this was self-inflicted. Izou quickly got him inside before he made Ace sit down on the bed. “What did you do?!” Izou almost yelled as he grabbed a piece of cloth as he moved towards him. And Ace was on his way to talk, he really was, but no, there was a lump in his throat that prevented it. As he was about to try again, Izou was close and hugged him. “Don't cry. I’m not mad, I’m not, I promise.” Ace blinked, and did realize that yes, he was also crying now. He was so pitiful.
After a few seconds, Izou let go of him and crouched down in front of him and looked concerned. “I’m not mad. Just worried. May I see?” Ace swallowed, but nodded a bit as he moved his hand away and showed his index finger, which was bleeding quite badly. He knew hands, which included fingers, bled a lot, but this seemed a bit extreme to be honest. But then he realized it had been a while since he really bled. His fruit always cauterized his wounds. But as usual, this was self-inflicted, his fruit wouldn't heal those wounds. Izou then moved the cloth he had gotten to it and that honestly made him flinch as it hurt a lot, him now realizing his index finger was throbbing in pain. Why did it suddenly hurt so bad?
As Izou had the cloth on his finger to stop the bleeding, Izou spoke. “What did you do?” Ace swallowed. “I… had this cuticle and I was going to remove it by biting it, when I started to pull on it carefully…” Izou blinked. “All this blood is from a cuticle?” Ace nodded. “I don't know why it’s bleeding so bad.” Izou blinked, before he moved the cloth away to look at his finger before he looked shocked. “This is really deep for a cuticle. You must have done it really slowly. Doesn't it hurt?” Ace sighed. “It hurts now…” Izou nodded and put the cloth back over. “Hold this here, while I get a band aid.” Ace nodded and did.
Izou then grabbed a small box and put it on the bed and it was full of bandages, band aids, strips, and other things. Ace blinked. “I didn't know Bay allowed this. I thought she wanted to know every injury. You got strips?” Izou hummed as he found the band aids and got one that fit. “I make clothes. I have scissors, needles, some knives, and such. Bay got sick of me showing up multiple times a day some years back. So, I am allowed to have this. Unless it is very necessary, she doesn't want me there. She knows my judgment is good enough to trust me to seek help when needed. Although I did need to prove this.” Ace nodded as Izou found a band aid and put it on, before he put the box back.
Izou then came and sat down in his chair and looked at him with kind eyes. “What made you do this? Did someone say or do something?” Ace took a breath. He knew he needed to tell why, so Izou wouldn't think this was something that would happen again right away. “I… today is the day that my… younger brother died.” Izou blinked. “Luffy?” Ace shook his head. “No. He is… was, my other brother… I watched him die years ago. We grew up together. I… miss him.” Ace’s voice broke at the end and more tears fell.
Izou moved and hugged him. “I’m sorry. No one should lose a brother that early. But you have a lot of memories you can look back at, right?” Ace nodded and moved a hand to his arm as Izou let go. “He gave me my first butterfly. He started it. Told me to not kill them. And I… when he died… I did.” Izou nodded. “That's why you can’t promise you won’t kill them.” Ace nodded. “Yes. I already broke that promise to him. I can’t do it again.” Ace felt so bad about that.
Izou moved a hand to his leg. “You didn't mean to break it. I am sure if he was here, he would get it.” Ace nodded a bit. “He was like that. He would always do anything he could to help me or Luffy. He would do anything just to make us smile.” Izou nodded. “Tell me about him. From what you've told about you and Luffy, I am sure you two or three had many fun adventures.” Ace nodded and started to tell about stuff they did, and that made him feel better. It had been a while since he had thought back on Sabo, even longer since he did it and didn't feel like he wanted to cry. He even managed to laugh a few times and smile.
When he had been going on for a small while, Izou nodded. “Sounds like an amazing person.” Ace nodded. “He really was.” Izou moved a hand to his leg. “Remember. He might be gone, but he will never be forgotten. He will always live on in your memories.” Ace nodded, Izou was right. And that made him feel better. They then spoke about small things, Ace glad he was allowed to stay here. He knew Izou had said to come to him if he needed anything, but it was hard to do. But now it felt like he did the right thing.
After a bit, he felt tired and Izou said to lie down and rest, and Ace saw no harm. He didn't want to be alone and Izou seemed okay with him here, so Ace nodded and did and was asleep after a bit. He felt much better.
---x---
Izou looked at Ace who fell asleep and Izou felt bad for Ace. But he was also really glad Ace had come to him. He got this would be a hard day, losing a brother young was awful, even worse as Ace had watched him die. It was clear Ace was down today, and Izou got it. Remembering good memories could help feel better and it seemed that helped Ace, which was good. Hopefully, Ace will feel better tomorrow.
Izou then went and started to do a few things to progress his current projects, making sure not to do anything that made a lot of sound, mostly sticking to sketching, sowing by hand, and tracing fabric with a special pencil. He was sure Ace needed the sleep.
After an hour, Izou looked at the door when he heard a knock and went and opened it and was shocked to see Marco. “Marco?” Marco gave a small sound. “Are you okay, yoi?” Izou blinked. “Yes, why wouldn't I be?” Marco motioned a bit to the floor. “There are two blood drops by your door, yoi.” Izou blinked and looked down and saw two very tiny blood drops. How did Marco even see that? Well, he was a phoenix and had good sight and smell and all that. Izou sighed, before he looked into his room and saw Ace was still asleep, and he knew Marco knew about Ace’s past, so he moved to open the door more so Marco could see Ace asleep on his bed.
Marco blinked as he saw Ace, before he looked worried. “Did he…” Izou nodded. “Yes. Today is apparently the anniversary of the death of the brother he grew up with.” Marco nodded. “I see, yoi. Is he okay now?” Izou nodded. “He was okay when he fell asleep. Hopefully he will feel okay when he wakes.” Marco nodded. “Hopefully. I am glad he came to you, yoi.” Izou nodded. “I am too. I just hope he won’t feel embarrassed when he wakes.” Marco hummed. “He might, yoi. But I am sure you are able to handle it.” Izou nodded. “Good to know you believe in me, Marco.” Marco chuckled. “I always will. You're my brother, yoi. How bad was it?” Izou sighed. “I don't get how it created this much blood, but it was from a cuticle he pulled on. It was deep for a cuticle. But he is okay.” Marco nodded. “Good, yoi.”
Izou blinked a bit. Marco got this look in his eyes when he said that which he hadn't seen before. Before he was sure he recognized it and then it hit him. All the looks Marco sent at Ace, all the caring and kind smiles. Then Izou realized how blind he had been all this time. Izou looked at Marco. “What do you think of Ace?” Marco looked a bit confused. “I like him, yoi. He might be a bit closed off, but I am sure he can open up with time. I think he would be a perfect brother to us.” Izou nodded. Good to know he wasn't the only blind one here. But at least his eyes were now open. Now he just needed them to open their eyes.
He shared a few more words with Marco, before he left and Izou went and sat down on his chair again and looked at Ace. Now he needed to figure out if this was even a possibility. Based on things he had seen, yes, yes it might. Izou did wonder if he was the only one who was no longer blind about this. But he guessed only time would tell.
And that's the chapter! Hope you enjoyed it

Chapter 15: New Tattoo and past
Chapter Text
Hello everyone, here is the next chapter!
I know this is late and I am so sorry! I will try and keep this updated now, and hopefully not almost a year late again
In this Ace gets a new tattoo and we see one of his past ones being made
Hope you enjoy
Read and relax
Ace woke up feeling tired and opened his eyes only to see he wasn't in his room. It had him confused as he sat up, before he remembered yesterday. He had been feeling down and dragged on a cuticle and headed to Izou, who made him feel better. He looked around and saw Izou sitting by his desk, a pen in hand and looking like he was concentrating. Ace gave a small yawn and shook his head a bit, trying to wake up some more, before he spoke. “Izou?” Izou turned to him and smiled. “Hey! You're up. How do you feel?” Ace couldn't help giving another yawn. “I’m feeling… fine. Thanks… for yesterday…” Izou smiled. “No issue. I am still very glad you came here.” Ace smiled. “Yeah, me too. I should leave.” Izou gave a small nod. “You can, but you can also stay a bit more. I have a new pattern for a sweater I would like to try, and it would fit you, if you're up to it.”
Ace blinked, before he smiled and said he could, so then Izou took some measurements while they chatted, before he said that he had all he needed. Ace, after all this still standing, helped him pick some fabrics and was on his way to go get something to eat for himself afterwards. But before he left, Izou asked to look at his finger, and Ace let him. As they took the large band aid off, it looked much better than yesterday, but still it looked like a wound. Izou hummed, before he spoke. “Okay, if anyone asks, you were here with me, when one of my fabric knives cut you, and you felt so bad since some blood landed on a fabric I had, making it an emotional wound, that won’t just heal. Okay?” Ace blinked. “W- you- I mean, that's a lie?” Izou hummed. “It is, but I am worried someone could ask and you would feel worse.” Ace blinked, before he smiled and nodded. “Thank you, Izou.” Izou smiled. “No issue, now go have fun. I might be a bit late for breakfast, need to finish something.” Ace nodded. “Okay. And again, thank you.” Izou smiled. “It is nothing.” Ace smiled, before he left and headed to the galley where breakfast was soon.
As he sat down, he started a conversation with Jozu, who was by the table and they just chatted, before breakfast began and when Thatch sat down, he did wonder out loud where Izou was, and Ace said he would be a bit late, as he was finishing something. Thatch chuckled. “He is always doing a project. Wonder what is next.” Ace hummed. “Looked like something amazing, I dropped by him.” Thatch looked excited with that. Thatch always supported Izou in what he wanted to do, which was so amazing. Everyone here was so supportive.
The day then went on fine, before it was closing in on dinner which would be in about an hour and half, and Ace was bored, so he went to the kitchen to hang with Thatch, who was making dinner as it wasn't much to prepare, just small things he could do, and there was a few others as well there. Luckily Thatch was not so busy so Ace was chatting with him while he helped a bit when needed, but he also took some small… samples, which if Thatch saw it he would get hit his hand away, so each time Ace waited for Thatch to turn his back, before he took a small taste.
When there was just an hour left, Thatch looked at him. “Question, I have a dough I need to knead, and having warm hands would help, so could you maybe help?” Ace blinked, before he felt a bit unsure. He knew kneading meant he had to lift his sleeves, and there were 3 other people here. Thatch seemed to get it and clapped his hands. “Peter, Hans, Trixie, you've done great. Could you go and start placing plates?” All three nodded and left. Thatch then looked at him. “You can still say no, but what do you say?” Ace smiled. “I can help.” Thatch clapped his hands. “Yes! Okay. Wash your hands and I will make sure it is ready to be kneaded.” Ace nodded and did.
When his hands were clean, he walked over to the large bowl Thatch was with, as in really huge, and Thatch said to roll his sleeves up, which Ace did, Thatch mirroring the motion. Then Thatch started to knead the dough and told him to do the same, and Ace did his best. Thatch did say he was doing great, and that the heat from his hands really helped. That made Ace glad. As they were kneading, Thatch seemed to notice something and spoke up before Ace could ask. “Hey, is that a new tattoo? A butterfly?” Ace blinked, before he looked down at his arms and saw the butterfly Izou had made, so Ace nodded. “Yeah. Izou made it. He wanted to give me one.” Thatch whistled. “That one is so Izou and so pretty.” Ace smiled. “Yeah, it is. I like it.” Thatch seemed glad about that, his smile widening a bit.
They then finished kneading the dough, and when they were, they cleaned their hands again as Thatch left the dough to rise a bit more. As they had, and Ace on his way to lower his sleeves, Thatch spoke. “Question, and feel free to say no, but can I make a butterfly?” Ace blinked, Thatch wanted to make one? Ace used a few seconds to think, before he nodded and gave a smile. “Sure.” Thatch looked at him. “Don't feel pressured to say yes.” Ace shook his head. “I don't. You're allowed to make one.” Thatch smiled and clapped his hands. “Yes! Wait here!” Thatch then ran out, coming back a few minutes later with a tattoo machine and some color for it. They then found a spot to sit, and Thatch started to make the tattoo, a bit away from the one Izou had made.
As Thatch did, he seemed to concentrate, before he hummed as he changed color and used his hand to trace something. “Also this butterfly, it looks… jagged? The others doesn't.” Ace blinked, and looked down at the one he meant, and Ace smiled. He remembers that one very well.
---x---Flashback---x---
Ace sat in his room at Dadan’s, just relaxing, or trying to was a better word. He had this urge to scratch at his arm. He had a few tattoos now from Sabo, Luffy, and Dadan, and he loved them, but they were itchy. But then again, the small pain had made so he didn't have the full urge to harm himself, even though he knew if he scratched, he would do it until he bled, and that would not only make Sabo mad but Luffy very sad. As he was relaxing, he heard a ruckus from downstairs, with some yelling, but he couldn't hear entirely who was yelling or what was being said, before he heard someone marching up the stairs. Only seconds later his door was banged open and Ace was shocked to see Garp there. He could also see Sabo behind him, a half determined look on his face, and Ace got it. Garp knew.
Garp then closed the door, before he went over to him, stopping just a few feet from him. “Is it true? Are you being stupid and harming yourself?” Ace looked down, not answering. He was ashamed, and it seemed it was enough of an answer to Garp, who just gave a breath, which itself sounded upset. “Why? You're safe, you got food, you're good. Why would you do that!” Ace didn't answer, to which Garp grabbed his left arm. Ace tried to fight it, but Garp ended up winning and dragged his sleeves up and Ace hung his head, feeling worse by the second. He did feel Garp staring for a bit, before a finger traced the tattoos he had, then Garp spoke. “Why?” Ace felt like he wanted to cry, and Garp asked again, and Ace felt so upset now, so he spoke. “Why wouldn't I! I killed my mother! My father is hated by everyone! I am hated by everyone! ” Ace felt like he barely managed to hold his tears back, his eyes burning.
Garp then let go of his arm, and Ace quickly hid it by pressing it close to his chest, before Garp spoke. “Where is the tattoo gun?” Ace looked shocked at Garp, before he pointed to Sabo’s desk, sure if he didn't, Garp would turn the entire room upside down. Garp then went and got it, before he grabbed his arm again, and Ace just let it happen. He then heard the tattoo machine start, before he felt the sensation of the needles going into his skin, which was a welcomed pain right now. He was sure Garp was crossing out the tattoos he had or writing something awful.
After a bit, the machine turned off, before Garp spoke. “There, shi- Ace.” Ace blinked. Garp didn't say ‘shitty grandson’, which had him look at Garp, who had a concerned and compassionate look. Garp spoke again as Ace looked at him. “Your father… he would have loved you, and never doubt that while people say horrible stuff, he wasn't evil. He was a good man. And your mother did all she could to make sure you lived. And I assure you, both are looking down, rooting for you.” Garp gave a breath. “I know I am not around a lot, but you can win this. Now, go prove to all those who say they hate you that you are the amazing kid you are and that you will be a perfect marine one day!” Ace blinked, before he got his mind with him. “I won’t be a marine! I've told you this! I will be a pirate!” Garp looked at him, and he was sure Garp would hit him, when Garp was suddenly hugging him. “No matter what you do, you will be amazing.”
Ace was so shocked he didn't say anything, and then Garp let go and spoke. “Drawing isn't my strong suit, but don't you dare kill it. I will know.” Ace blinked and looked down at the tattoo and saw a butterfly. The lines were jagged and not as smooth or pretty as the ones he had gotten done by the others, but it made it stand out, it was Garp, who stood out as well. Ace smiled a bit. “I… like it.” Garp spoke quickly “I know it suck- wait, you do?” Ace nodded. “It is… you. Thank you… Gramps.” Garp smiled, before he looked at him. “You will do just great. Now, I need to go. Go win the world, Shitty Grandson.” Ace nodded. “I will, Shitty Gramps.” Garp laughed a bit, before he left. Ace then looked down at the butterfly again. It was pretty, in its own way. Maybe there was hope for him.
---x---Present time---x---
Ace smiled. “It is from someone who sucks at drawing. Couldn't do it to save his life.” Thatch chuckled. “Sounds nice. And there! Done!” Ace blinked and Thatch moved his hands so he could see the finished piece. It was a nice butterfly. And the butterfly’s body was a sword, the sword having butterfly wings, and it was blue. It made sense seeing that Thatch was a swordsman.
Ace smiled. “It is amazing, Thatch. Thank you.” Thatch waved his hand. “Now you're making me blush! But it is a nice one.” Ace nodded, it was. Ace then dragged his sleeve down, before he smiled at Thatch, “Thank you, for making one. and for… you know… not judging me.” Ace was very thankful that Thatch didn't look at him with any judging looks.
Thatch moved in and hugged him. “Don't worry, little bro! That is what brothers are for! I will always be by your side!” Ace smiled, and he felt like he half wanted to cry, but kept it back as he hugged back. “Still, thank you.” Thatch chuckled. “No issue. Now, want to help me finish this up?” Ace nodded and they finished what was needed, before he helped form the dough into buns, and then put them in the oven. He was having fun helping, and he got a bun to eat as a thank you as well. When it was done, the others came back as Thatch got them, and they finished it all, then dinner was on.
When dinner was over, Ace was out by the railing, looking at the ocean. He always loved the ocean, even though it could kill him, it was also a sign of freedom. As he was just enjoying the view, he looked to his left when someone came and also leaned against the railing to see Marco there, who hummed. “You okay today, yoi?” Ace nodded. “Yeah. Why wouldn't I be?” Marco hummed. “I see you have a small wound on your finger, yoi. I am just a bit worried for you.” Ace looked at his finger, before he spoke. “Yeah, I was with Izou, helping with something, when I got too close to a fabric knife and it cut me, making some blood fall on his piece. I feel so bad I ruined it.” Marco nodded. “Makes sense in why it didn't heal then, yoi. Then I will not be as worried.” Ace blinked. “Not ‘as’ worried?” Marco hummed. “I am your brother, I will always be a bit worried for you, as I am for everyone.”
Ace chuckled and looked at Marco. “You got a lot to worry about then. There are like hundreds of us. Is the ‘yoi’ maybe a tick you have? If I say it, will you not, yoi?” Marco hummed. “I've always done it, it isn't a tick, yo-” Ace laughed. “You almost said it! It is so a tick you have.” Marco hummed. “Don't you like it, yoi?” Ace hummed, before he smiled at Marco. “I do, it is… you.” Marco smiled at him. “That's good, yoi. I like it as well.” Ace smiled, before he looked back at the sea, once more taking in the view. “You know, never would I have believed I would be here, having so many around me, who… accept me.” Marco moved an arm around his shoulder, bringing him in for a half hug. “We do accept you, yoi. Because you are amazing.” Ace smiled. He didn't feel like that at times, often actually. But he liked it here and hoped he could stay here forever.

Chapter 16: New Tattoo and Marco
Chapter Text
Hello everyone, here is the next chapter!

Marco looked around and saw everyone was having fun, drinking and partying. He did notice Ace drinking heavy too, currently dancing around with Thatch. They were all having fun. Earlier, he had heard from Thatch, as he couldn't keep his mouth shut, that he had given Ace a butterfly tattoo, same with Izou. He liked this, as the tattoos Ace had had somewhat faded and some were ‘killed’ as Ace called it. New ones also were a way for them to bond. So, when the party was dying down, people passing out here and there, which was fine as they were in a summer climate, he saw Thatch passing out too and Ace seemed a bit out of place as he had just lost his party buddy to the night. But for Marco, this created an opportunity.
So Marco moved over to Ace and asked him to join him in his room, and Ace did, being so drunk he could barely walk straight. When they got to his room, Ace plopped down on the bed, and Marco chuckled. “You gonna pass out as well?” Ace hummed before he sat up. “Nah, I am not that drunk. I burn through it fast.” Well, he wasn't slurring his words too much. Ace then looked at him. “Why did you ask me to come here?” Marco hummed and moved to his desk and opened a drawer. “Thatch mentioned he gave you a new tattoo, and that Izou had as well, yoi.” Ace spoke, sounding shocked. “He… did?” Marco nodded as he grabbed what he was after. “Yes. Don't worry, he won’t tell everyone, just those he knows that know, yoi.” He added, feeling like Ace would worry about that. Marco then turned and showed the tattoo machine he had. “May I make one too, yoi?” Ace blinked, before he nodded as he smiled. “Yeah, you can.” Marco smiled and moved over to Ace as Ace moved his sleeve up. He smiled as he saw the ones Izou and Thatch had made, they looked nice.
Marco then got to work, having all he needed. He had to say he had a steady hand too. So after a bit, he was done and moved to give a smile up to Ace. “Done, yoi.” Ace nodded a bit before he looked, and blinked. "It’s so pretty.” Marco smiled, glad Ace felt so. The tattoo showed a different type of butterfly. It had a set of bluewings, but with an additional a set of yellow ones as well. Instead of a butterfly form, the body had the shape of a phoenix, colored inred, with a tail in red and purple. He felt it was nice as well, and was glad Ace liked it. It was a bit of a bold move to just do that.
Ace looked at it a bit more, before he looked up at him. “It is so pretty. Thank you.” Marco smiled, glad Ace really liked it, he felt this was a bonding moment. As Marco was on his way to speak, Ace leaned in and kissed him. Marco was shocked, but couldn't help it and kiss back, closing his eyes as he deepened the kiss for a moment, before he leaned a bit back. This was wrong. Before he could say this, Ace leaned in again and grabbed him, pulling him in so Ace was lying on the bed, Marco over him, them kissing again before Marco moved to part their lips, looking down at Ace, not sure what to do right now. This was wrong.
---x---
Ace couldn't help it and he kissed Marco, just feeling like he needed to. Maybe it was the booze, but he felt he liked Marco, as Marco was so nice and caring, and he felt Marco had looked at him at times. But when Marco pulled away, Ace moved in again and dragged Marco to be over him. He felt as if Marco was holding back, but he wasn't sure. But he wanted this. He was sure. But then, after kissing for a bit longer, Marco still over him, Marco leaned away again and looked down at him.
Ace blinked as he now was sure Marco held back. Ace was ready to be ravaged, but Marco didn't seem like he wanted to. Then it hit him why Marco held back. Ace felt his eyes lower as he felt bad for taking advantage of Marco’s good nature and moved a hand to Marco’s shoulder, gently pushing against it so Marco moved a bit further away and Ace could sit up. Ace looked at his legs as Marco said his name in confusion, before Ace shook his head a bit. “It’s okay. We can pretend this didn't happen. That I never came here. I don't want to take advantage of you just since you feel pity for me. I promise I won’t do anything stupid to myself. I will leave now.”
Ace was on his way to stand up when Marco pushed him back down to the bed again and leaned over him. “Do not take my hesitation as pity, yoi. You're drunk, Ace. I don't want to take advantage of you. And even if you weren't drunk, I am your commander, yoi. There is a power dynamic here.” Ace blinked, that was true. Did that mean they couldn't be together? Before he could voice that, Marco continued. “When you're sober, and if you still feel like this, we will go to Pops and speak, yoi. Because of my status, we need his approval.” Ace blinked. “Does that mean…” Marco moved a hand to his cheek. “I have feelings for you, yoi.” Ace didn't know what to say. Then Marco moved his thumb on his cheek and Ace realized a tear fell.
Marco moved his head down and pressed a kiss to his forehead. “Sleep here, yoi. Get sober. But we can’t go further than that for now, because of the power play. I want to do this right, yoi.” Ace nodded, now getting it and he suddenly felt so happy, happy that Marco felt something back and couldn't stop a few more tears falling, Marco drying them, before Ace spoke. “I am just… happy. That you feel something back.” Marco smiled and nodded. “I do.” Then he kissed him on the forehead again, as they shouldn't get carried away because of the power play Marco spoke off. Maybe this will work out. But maybe Pops would be against this? He hoped not. He really liked Marco.
Ace then felt himself starting to fall asleep as he was lying down, he was still a bit drunk, maybe a little bit more than just ‘a bit‘ as well. As he fell asleep, he still felt Marco cuddling up against him, holding him close but never making a move. Marco was so nice and kind, and Ace hoped for the best for tomorrow.
And that's the chapter, hope you enjoyed!
And yes! Marco/Ace is not a thing! I had to have this happen as some have asked for it

Chapter 17: Whitebeard and Rumors
Chapter Text
Hello everyone! Here is the next chapter!
This is more of a sort of interlude I think, but it is important to the plot

Read and relax
Marco sat by his desk, doing some light paperwork, waiting for Ace to wake up. It was a bit later he heard a small groan and saw Ace moved a bit and Marco looked at him. “Ace, yoi?” Ace gave a small sound. “‘m awake…” Marco chuckled. “Sure you are.” Ace got up to sit and shook his head a bit, before he moved a hand to it. “I’m awake… now.” Marco nodded. “Do you remember yesterday night, yoi?” Ace looked at him and Marco felt unsure if he remembered, when Ace nodded. “I do. I wanted you to ravage me, but you didn't. You said you cared for me, but we couldn't because you are a commander and I am not, a power play.” Marco nodded and smiled. Ace remembered, that was good. “Do you still feel as you did last night, yoi?” Ace nodded, looking a bit sheepish. “I do… I have for a small bit.” Marco nodded and moved over to Ace, cupping his cheek. “Same have I, yoi. But I am your commander. So we need Pops’ approval. Do you want to speak with him now?” Ace blinked. “Is he awake?” Marco hummed. “I think so. Want to go check?” Ace nodded, and they went to speak with him.
---x---
Whitebeard sat in his room, relaxing before breakfast. He would soon head out and sit a bit in his chair. But as he was reading a book, there was a knock at the door, so he gave a come in, to show Marco and Ace. Whitebeard looked at them, wondering what this might be. Was he late for breakfast? “Good morning, Marco, Ace.” They gave one back as they closed the door, before Marco spoke. “We need to talk with you, yoi. About a sensitive matter.” Whitebeard nodded, putting his book away. He was worried Ace had harmed himself again and was in a bad place.
He motioned for them to sit in a couple of chairs, which they did, and the captain spoke. “What is this sensitive matter?” Marco gave a breath. “There have been some… emotions that have come up, yoi.” Whitebeard nodded, feeling sure Ace had self harmed again. “What kind of emotions?” He would be ready to ask for Bay, that Ace needed to go see her, when Marco continued, moving a hand to Ace’s leg. “Between Ace and I. We have not done anything, more than kissing, yoi. But I am his commander, so I know we need your approval.” Whitebeard blinked. He hadn't expected this. Whitebeard then nodded. “I see. How long?” Marco gave a breath. “Since yesterday. We have both felt something for a small bit, but we confessed last night.” Whitebeard nodded. That meant they had come here as quickly as they could. In his mind, that helped prove Marco didn't have ill or malicious intentions, an intention to abuse his status. Not that he would have believed that either way, but Marco did have a power over Ace since he was a commander.
Whitebeard looked at his two children. “I don't want to interfere with your love life, sons. But I have to think about this. I trust you, Marco, that you wouldn't abuse your status, but it’s still a delicate matter and would bring a lot of attention to Ace as well.” Marco nodded. “I know, yoi. And we will not do anything until you have made up your mind.” Ace looked a bit unsure as he fidgeted. “Do you think it would be a lot of attention?” Whitebeard was on his way to answer, when Marco did. “It would, yoi. I am the first commander and first mate. You're the newest addition, some may even think you're with me to trick us. I know you're not, but others might, yoi.” Ace nodded, looking unsure, slightly tugging at his sleeve. Whitebeard then spoke. “I am also a bit relieved. I was worried you came to talk with me since you had, or have been thinking about, self harming, Ace.” Ace blinked. “I…” Ace looked uncomfortable, and Whitebeard felt now that was also the case.
Marco frowned a bit as he looked at Ace. “Ace, yoi?” Ace gave a breath. “I… I did think about it some days ago. But I… it’s complicated. But I went to Izou as I didn't want to be alone.” Marco moved a hand to Ace’s. “Did you self harm?” Ace looked uncomfortable, so the captain felt he had. Ace sighed. “Not… truly. But I had a cuticle, and I pulled on it very slowly and it started to bleed a lot and it didn't really hurt, and then I got my mind with me and I knew I shouldn't, so I went to Izou, who helped me.” Ace then looked at Marco. “That's why I had that wound on my finger, but Izou told me to lie…” Marco nodded. “I see. But it is okay now, yoi. I get why you lied, or Izou wanted you to lie.” Whitebeard nodded, he agreed. But still. “I don't want to overstep, but I am a worried father. May I check?” Ace blinked, before he nodded and lifted his sleeves, and he saw no fresh or new wounds, but he saw something else. Which were new butterflies.
Whitebeard blinked. “When were those made?” Ace hummed. “During the last couple of weeks. This one is Izou, the first one, this one is Thatch, and this is Marco, from last night.” Ace pointed to which as he said who made them. Whitebeard nodded, they all fit with who made them. But he also felt a bit jealous that he hadn't made one and 3 people was before him. He was Ace’s father, he also wanted to make one, but that might be impossible as well, as he was so large compared to Ace. But he would try to figure out a way to do it.
Whitebeard then looked at his sons. “Come back here in 2 days and I will have a definitive answer for you, about the relationship. Okay?” Both Ace and Marco nodded, the latter speaking. “We will, yoi. And we promise to not do anything until then.” Whitebeard smiled. He highly doubted Marco would ever abuse his status, but they had rules for a reason. No one had ever abused their status with them, but he knew it could happen, the reason he had made this a rule. Both did seem to get it, and he hoped this would go fine. They did a but more chatting, before Ace and Marco left, leaving Whitebeard to try and think. He felt very confident Marco wouldn't abuse his status. but this was a rule he was very strict on, in case. But he had an idea. So he went to his door and opened it, seeing Claus, who had watch, and asked him to grab Izou, when the man left to do that, Whitebeard went back into his room, thinking.
When there was a knock a couple minutes later, he gave a come in and Izou came, looking at him. “You wanted to see me, Pops?” The captain nodded. “I did. You are the one who knows all the gossip, even the more hidden one.” Izou hummed. “I am known to have an ear for rumors and gossip, yes. Why?” Whitebeard hummed. “If I, hypothetically, mentioned Marco and Ace in a sentence, what wo-” Izou gave a small squeal as he looked excited. “He confessed?!” Izou cleared his throat, calming down. “I mean, still very hypothetically, which of the two confessed first? Hypothetically.” Whitebeard blinked, it was clear Izou knew something here. “I think it was more like a mutual confession.” Izou nodded. “Still very hypothetically, I know a certain first commander has sent looks at a certain black haired kid, being very concerned about him, and just very caring. And a black haired kid didn't seem to mind it. Still hypothetically.” Whitebeard nodded. “If this was not hypothetically, should I be worried about a power play?” Izou hummed, seeming to think. “I don't think so, no. Still hypothetically. The one in command here is the kindest soul when needed, not hypothetically. But I know about the rules.” Whitebeard nodded, that was good.
Izou looked at him, trying to read his face the best. “Should I, hypothetically, keep an eye out and report back? Very hypothetically, in like a day?” Whitebeard smiled. This was why he asked for Izou, he had done this before. Izou could get everything he needed and find everything out as he was the queen of gossip and so good at getting information. Whitebeard nodded. “Hypothetically, I would like that.” Izou nodded. “Then I will do that, hypothetically of course.” Izou then smiled, that sly smile he did, before he left. Whitebeard then felt this would soon have a solution, and he hoped and had a feeling he would approve the relationship, but he would know soon. But this was interesting. Marco had never really had an interest in someone, as in romantically. But then again, Ace was a special kid, and he had been good at ruffling Marco’s feathers, and maybe Marco liked that.
---x---
When breakfast was, Izou walked into the galley and walked over to the table closest to the right corner and sat down as he looked at Riku. “I got some sweet hot tea!” Everyone gave an “Ouu!” And Izou first locked eyes with Riku, then Kyle, and lastly Claus, the other huge gossipers. “I heard from a source that Ace has a crush! But no one knows who…” Kyle hummed. “I bet it is Thatch. They are close.” Claus hummed as he shook his head. “No, too obvious and they don't fit. My guess; Marco.” Riku nodded. “Agree. And the looks he sends? Something is going on.” Izou nodded. “And not only that, they were spotted together early in the morning. But that might be casual. Heading to Pops’ room.” Riku got that gleeful look in her eyes. “What if they have a thing?!”
Before any could respond, Boyle came and sat down. “Are you talking about the Ace tea?” They all looked at him. “What do you have?” Asked Riku. Boyle sat down. “I heard that there is a reason Ace wears that sweater all the time.” Izou felt this might go bad, had anyone seen his scars? He did feign interest with the others, so he would elaborate, which he did, speaking more in a hushed tone. “He has the mark on another crew, he is here to get intel.” Izou blinked, that wasn't true. Riku blinked as well. “He is very much against taking it off. Remember when he had that wound?” Claus nodded. “Yeah, and now he was spotted with Marco early in the morning heading to Pops? Maybe he was caught?” Kyle hummed. “He is young and could easily win our hearts by being cute. Should we be on guard?” Riku looked at him. “You've been with him at times. What do you think? Seen him naked?” Izou shook his head. “No, but that feels… off. I mean, why try and infiltrate? He said he has joined us?”
Boyle looked at him. “That would be a perfect cover! He hasn't taken the mark yet! And we all know Marco has a soft spot for the young ones. Remember how kind he was with Haruta? And Ace is even younger! We need to figure out his plan!” Kyle nodded. “We do. But how… Marco could never hurt him, he is too kind, unless he needs to be unkind. But could he ever turn on someone who claims to be one of us?” Izou needed to divert the attention from this and spoke before Riku. “But I once heard Ace say he likes them a bit… older. And seen with Marco and the looks the first commander sends at Ace? I smell a possible romance maybe?” Riku got that glint in her eye again. “That would be so awesome. So, either Ace is a spy, or he has a crush? Wonder which it is…” Boyle hummed. “He is secretive. He hides his upper body, I mean, he is legit fire, he can’t possibly freeze. Or maybe he hides marks from love making?” Kyle hummed. “But Marco would never go against the rules Pops set. The powerplay is a rule. Needs Pops’ approval.”
Then Kyle and Riku gasped and spoke in unison. “That's why they visited him!” People looked over so they calmed down and Kyle spoke in a hushed tone. “That might be why they went to Pops to speak.” Riku nodded. “Yeah, maybe after the party, a tipsy Ace made a move, the first commander couldn't deny it and they went at it?” Boyle hummed. “No, still would break a rule… Maybe Ace has been a spy? He is very strong I think, and he’s clean now, but has marks?” Riku nodded. “That fits. He seems troubled at times, but I don't think he would come here to hurt us. He seems to… kind and shy.” The others nodded, including Izou, glad they were back on track. Izou leaned a bit forward. “Well, I heard there might be something there, but do you think Marco could ever break that rule? As you said, he does have a sore spot for the young ones.”
Riku hummed. “But a sore spot and being his type is different. Does anyone even know Commander Marco’s type?” They all shook their heads, before Boyle spoke. “But if I had to guess, Ace is his type. I mean, Marco is calm, older, and always looks bored. Ace is young, can be rash and loves to play pranks, especially on Marco, and runs around. They do say opposite attracts. But Marco would never use his status for a power play or break one of Pops’ rules, especially this one.” Riku nodded. “Lori once told me she tried to come on to commander Marco, but he denied her as he said there were rules here, but then said he wasn't interested in her like that.” Oh, Izou didn't know that. So, he wrapped this up and went to the table Lori was at, doing his skill. “Oh Lori! You want some hot tea?” Lori took the bait. “Oh, from the queen of rumors! Always! Spill it!” Izou grinned. “I heard you have a crush? On a blond first commander?” Lori blinked. “I did, but it was a quick crush. Since he helped me in that fight, it can happen. He was a hero for me, and sometimes you get crushes on those, but they pass.”
Izou nodded. “Which means you're ready for the real tea.” Lori blinked, leaning forward. “Tell me!” Izou knew this family loved their tea. Izou leaned a bit closer to Lori. “Marco got maybe a crush! On whom you may ask?” Lori nodded, looking so interested, and Izou spoke. “On Ace. The newest and youngest addition. Maybe they are hiding their deeds under Ace’s sweater?” Lori took the tea and looked so interested. “I must say, they would fit. That kid certainly ruffle his feathers. But no. Commander Marco would never break a rule and he would never go against a that serious rule and not have Pops’ approval. He told me to come back the next day if I still felt like it so we could speak with Pops, but it had passed a bit then, so I told him no need, it was a crush and it passed.” Izou nodded. “But they were spotted early in the morning heading to Pops’ room, together.” Lori blinked. “Ouu! Then maybe they went to chat with him about a possible romance? Commander Marco is so kind and caring. He would never use his status to force anyone to be with him. He is after true love. And the rule Pops have with a power play. Marco would never use a power play, if he did, it's not him. But this is some sweet tea.” Izou nodded and shared some more tea, before Izou went to the next table.
After being at 5 other tables, Izou felt sure of one thing. Marco was too kind to use his status in a power play, which he already knew, but needed to hear. But he had also heard a few more rumors that Ace was here with ill intent, hiding marks of other crews, the marines, or mercenaries under his sweater, as he never took it off. He needed to tell this to Pops as well. This could be concerning. He used the rest of the day to gather more rumors and gossip, and all said the same. Marco was the kindest to his family, he would never hurt anyone he cared about.
So, the next day Izou went to Pop’s room in the morning, and the man looked at him. “Did you find out anything specific?” Izou nodded. “Yes. Marco is the kindest guy on this boat when it concerns his family. He has a soft spot for the younger ones, and might have fallen for the one who ruffled his feathers the most. And never would he ever use his status as a power play. Apparently, Lori had a crush, tried to come on to him, but was half turned down so they could speak with you, but the crush had passed mostly the next day. So, I can say for sure, Marco would never use his status as a power play with anyone.” Pops nodded. “Thank you, son.” Izou shook his head. “No issue. But, before I leave.” Pops nodded. “Yes? Anything concerning come up?” Izou sighed. “Some seem to think Ace has ill intentions, and their reason is since he hides his upper body with a sweater. I think we should keep an ear and eye out on this one.” Pops nodded. “I agree with that.” Izou felt they really should, as this wasn't good. He then chatted a bit more with Pops, before he left, hoping this would go fine.
And that's the chapter! Hope you enjoyed!
I had fun with the Whitebeard and Izou conversation, and Izou doing a gossip round

Chapter 18: Namur
Chapter Text
Hello everyone, here is the next chapter!
This is how Namur finds out and how he reacts to it
Hope you enjoy
Read and relax
Ace felt nervous, he was going to try and talk to Namur, and he felt worried about it. He didn't know what Namur would say and how he would take it. They had just talked with Pops yesterday, and tomorrow they would get the answer if he could be with Marco, and he was worried about that as well. He needed something else to think about, but this was still a lot he felt, but also something he needed to do. So, with a deep breath, he went into the kitchen, as he had mentioned it to Thatch, and Namur was going to help Thatch prepare something today, and when Ace came- if he came- Thatch would give them some private time. So when Ace walked in, Thatch smiled. “Ace! Here to help?” Ace nodded and smiled, which had Thatch smile as well. Then they did some things, before Thatch said he would just head out and see how things were going in the galley, and Ace knew this was his cue.
But before Ace could speak, Namur did. “How are you, Ace? We haven't talked much.” Ace made a small sound. “I am okay, you?” Namur hummed. “Okay, I like to help around.” Ace nodded. “Yeah, same. …How… umm….” Ace didn't know how to start this. Namur hummed as he didn't continue. “Anything you want to talk about? You seem… unsure.” Ace sighed. “I am, I just… I want to join here, but I also feel I should… tell something.” Namur nodded a bit slowly. “Okay? Which is?” Ace sighed, this was it. “I… I don't mean to sound mean to others, but I had a hard childhood and… I needed a way to cope… which was in a bad way…” Ace halted for a second, but Namur didn't speak, giving him time to find his words. “And that bad way was to… harm myself.” There, he said it.
Namur nodded, getting he was done. “I see. But… you have stopped this, right?” Ace quickly nodded. “I have, but I just… I have a lot of scars left.” Namur nodded. “Ah, I see, the reason for the sweater. You don't get cold, so I have wondered why now and then.” Ace nodded. “Yeah… I try to hide it… I feel… ashamed…” Namur nodded. “I can get that.” Namur moved a hand to his shoulder. “I know it is hard, but we won’t look down at you for this.” Ace nodded a bit slowly. “You… don't mind it?” Namur hummed. “I don't mind the scars, and I am glad you told me. And I hope you won’t do it again.” Ace nodded. “Yeah, I do hope so myself.”
Namur looked at him. “It is something one shouldn't do, but I sort of get it.” Ace blinked. “You do?” Namur nodded. “Yes. I, years ago, I had this friend. A fishwoman. And being a fishman or fishwoman isn't… easy. I am not saying everyone else has it better, but many just hate us for no reason, just because we have gills and a different skin color. Anyhow, the words everyone calls us under their breath, it got to her a lot. She started to hate what she was, and one day, I saw it. She had wounds, and I was so worried for her, and she said I shouldn't be, and after a lot of pushing from me- I thought someone had hurt her- she told me it was she herself who did it.”
Namur sighed. “I was confused, when she said some words which stuck with her. She said; ‘feelings are temporary, but it is too great for me. I know I shouldn't make permanent decisions with temporary feelings, but without this pain I control, the pain inside me is too much and I will die’.” Namur gave a breath. “I don't know how she is now, I hope she is well. But those words made me realise, what is just a word for me, a small wound for me, might be life and death for someone else.” Namur looked at him with kind eyes. “If you ever need someone to talk with, know I am here.”
Ace nodded, feeling his eyes being a bit blank. Namur seemed to get it, and so few did. “I… Thank you. I will remember it.” Namur nodded. “I know sometimes that first word is like jumping off a cliff, but I would never judge you for this or think anything negative about you. In your moment of pain, it is what kept you going. I don't want anyone to do it, or feel they should do it, but it might be the only thing keeping them here..” Ace nodded. “I am doing my best to not do it. But I am also scared to promise I will never do it again… I know that sounds bad.” Namur shook his head. “No, but I would like, if you can, if you ever need it, it doesn't need to be me, but someone, that you go to someone for help, to speak or not be alone.” Ace nodded. “That I will try and do. I… never want to do it again, but….”
Namur shook his head and moved a hand to his shoulder. “Just keep on going, you are a lot stronger than you think, Ace. Okay?” Ace nodded and smiled. “I will. Thank you.” Namur nodded and then went back to preparing what was needed, speaking about casual things, Ace doing the same. He felt the conversation went very well, and he got what Namur said, and that Namur thought he was stronger than he believed, it felt… nice to hear. Maybe Ace was stronger than he thought?

Chapter 19: The Verdict
Chapter Text
Hello everyone, here is the next chapter!
I know this is late, but here it is!
This is just a small thing
I hope everyone will enjoy this
Read and relax
Ace felt nervous as he knew they would speak to Pops today, about if he could be with Marco or not, and he had a bad feeling in his gut. He didn't like it. He was nervous as well. As he was in his room, there soon was a knock and opened it to show Marco, who gave a supportive smile. “You ready, yoi?” Ace nodded a bit and took a deep breath. “I think so. What… what do you think he will say?” Marco hummed. “I don't know, but I do hope he will allow it.” Ace nodded, he hoped as well.
So then they walked to Pops’ room, and when they had knocked, Pops gave a come in and they walked in. Then as they closed the door, they moved to sit down in a set of chairs, and Ace didn't know what to say, when Marco spoke. “I hope you have come to a decision, yoi.” Pops nodded. “I have.” Then he gave a smile. “I have no doubt about it, that you will not abuse your power at all. Not that I did think so, but I needed to make sure.” Ace blinked, feeling shocked. “Does that mean….” Pops nodded. “I have no issues if you two want to be in a relationship.” Ace felt shocked, as he hadn't expected it. Marco then moved a hand and took his, and squeezed it and Ace did the same, before he smiled. “Thank you.” The captain shook his head. “It is nothing. But, there is something I would like to mention.”
Both he and Marco blinked, he nodded a bit, Marco speaking. “About what, yoi?” The captain gave a breath. “Some here think that you are here on my boat under someone else's orders as a mole. I know this isn't true. Their reasoning is that you hide your upper body, your arms. I just wanted you to know this, in case. It isn't a full belief, but some have small doubts, nothing concrete. But do know, I have none.” Ace blinked, he didn't like that, he didn't want people to think that. But then again, he didn't want to show everyone why he was hiding his arms.
Marco moved and squeezed his hand. “We will take it as it comes, yoi. Don't stress about it.” Ace guessed he was stressing about it a bit already, but would try not to. He just didn't like that people thought he was here for false reasons, he really did like it here. He loved it here. Ace nodded. “Yeah, we will. I will try not to stress about it.” Marco smiled and squeezed his hand. “That's good. And know you're not alone, yoi. You got all of us on your side.” Whitebeard nodded. “You do. And I will always support you.” Ace smiled, it made him glad he had people on his side. It was a bit… new. He knew they all were, and he was still settling to this. There were also so many here, and he knew he needed to tell everyone, and he would cross that bridge when it came and work his way through it.
Marco then spoke. “Also, I think it would be wise to not tell everyone about this just yet, yoi.” Marco smiled at him. “I do really like you, but it would cause a lot of attention, and I don't think that would be wise, yoi.” Ace nodded, he agreed. “I get it. And I agree. I don't want a lot of attention on me right now.” Pops nodded. “I am sure things will go fine, and you two do seem like a fit. But so you know, Izou knows about this, about you two.” Ace blinked and frowned a bit. “How?” Marco chuckled. “It is Izou, yoi. That's how. He is like this.” Ace blinked. “He… is?” Marco chuckled again. “Yeah, Izou has a 6th sense about things like this. But I know he also values personal space, so he won’t bother us or tell others, yoi.” Ace nodded, that was good to know.
Pops smiled. “Now, why don't we head out to breakfast?” He and Marco smiled and nodded, and Ace felt he could be and stay very happy here, and sent a smile at Marco, who smiled back, and he was sure things would be just fine.
And that's the chapter, I hope you enjoyed!
I know this was short, but I wanted to get something out, and this is a base for later

Chapter 20: Rakuyo
Chapter Text
Hello everyone! Here is the next chapter!
Hope you enjoy
Read and relax
Ace sat on Marco’s bed, breakfast having finished, and if Ace was honest, it felt so… odd. He had been unsure if Pops would approve this, but he had, and he was happy about it. Marco then moved and sat down next to him, moving a hand to his leg. “What are you thinking, yoi?” Ace smiled at Marco. “Just… I’m happy. I did feel unsure if he would approve, but he did.” Marco nodded. “Pops just needed to make sure, yoi. We’ve never had anyone abuse their status here, but we hear rumors from other places.” Ace nodded. “No, I do get it. And… you're so kind and amazing.” Marco moved and grabbed his hand and squeezed it, and Ace squeezed it back, then they leaned in and kissed each other, the kiss deepening.
When they parted a minute later, Marco moved the other hand and cupped his cheek. “I know you were drunk last time we were in my bed, yoi. But how about we take things a bit slow?” Ace nodded. “Yeah, I was so drunk. I agree in taking it a bit slow, never really been in a relationship… Just flings.” Marco smiled. “I am glad we’re on the same page here, yoi. What are your plans for today, yoi?” Ace hummed. “I am going to the kitchen later, spoke with Thatch and he did so I can have a conversation with Rakuyo.” Marco nodded. “Are you going to tell him about the scars?” Ace nodded. “Yeah…” Marco hummed. “It will go fine, he is understanding, yoi.” Ace nodded, he hoped so. Marco then hummed again. “But how about we just relax for a bit and talk? Before I have to overlook those on deck duty, yoi.” Ace smiled and nodded, that sounded just perfect.
---x---
Ace gave a breath as he walked towards the kitchen, feeling nervous. When he got to the kitchen, Rakuyo was already there preparing dishes and such, Thatch was also there, and when Thatch saw him, he smiled and greeted him, Rakuyo doing the same, before Thatch excused himself and clapped him on the back before he left, a silent saying he could do this. When the door closed, Ace went and started to prepare things as well, and just as he was about to speak, Rakuyo spoke. “So, Ace, how are you?” Ace hummed. “I am good. You?” Rakuyo hummed. “I am as well, been a while since I've had kitchen duty, I do enjoy it though.” That was good to know. They then chatted for a bit, about nothing special, before there was a small silence, and Ace felt this was the perfect moment, and spoke. “Um, I… have something I would like to tell you.” That didn't sound quite right to his ear as it was said, but he couldn't take it back now.
Rakuyo nodded. “Sure, kid. What's up?” Ace took a breath, wishing he could escape, but knew he needed to do this, he wanted to be open with his family. They deserved to know. “I… um…” A sigh left him. “I am not trying to make an excuse, but as I grew up, I didn't have it the easiest. Not that others don't have it tougher, but I just felt… overwhelmed with everything, and needed a way to deal with it…. and I found a bad way to deal with it.” Ace paused, feeling unsure, and after a couple seconds of silence, Rakuyo spoke. “What kind of way was it?” Ace sighed. “I… started to harm myself. It made a lot of the emotional pain lesser as I controlled this pain, an outlet. And I have stopped this, I promise. But… I still have scars…”
Rakuyo nodded. “That's why you always wear something with sleeves. I have to be honest, I felt it was a bit odd at times as you don't feel cold, since you're fire and you often wear shorts. But you have truly stopped?” Ace nodded. “I have. And you're my family now, so I feel you should know, and in case you see my arms, so it won't be too huge of a shock.” Rakuyo nodded. “I see. Does anyone else know?” Ace nodded and told of those who knew. “And, this might sound odd, but I got some tattoos, butterflies, on my arms. Had some for years, but gotten a few from others here. It's nice, and for me to not kill them. Just… makes me feel better.” Rakuyo nodded. “Sounds nice. I would, if you're okay with it, maybe I could make one as well? Just need to think up a design.” Ace smiled. “Yeah, those i have gotten here, have their own design, I like it.”
Rakuyo nodded. “Feel free to say no, but can I look at them? Maybe get an idea for my design?” Ace nodded and dragged his sleeves up and Rakuyo looked at his arms, frowning a bit at first, most likely since there were so many scars, then took in the butterflies, before he nodded and pointed at them as he spoke. “I have a feeling this is Izou, this is Thatch, and this is Marco.” Ace chuckled. “You're correct. I… really like them.” Rakuyo nodded. “You should. I will tell you when I have an idea for a design, okay?” Ace nodded and dragged his sleeves down again. “Sounds good.” They then chatted on as they did the preparations, before Thatch came in again and helped with the rest, before it was done and Ace was glad it had gone so well. And who knew, maybe he would get another tattoo.
And that's the chapter! Hope you enjoyed

Chapter 21: Relationship and Jozu
Chapter Text
Hello everyone, here is the next chapter!
I know this is late out and I am sorry, but here is the next chapter!
This is someone finding out about Marco and Ace being together, and Ace telling Jozu about the scars
Hope you enjoy
Read and realx
Ace gave a breath as he woke up, turning to see he was alone in bed, which was odd as he had fallen asleep with Marco last night. When he turned, he saw Marco was by his desk, working on something. Ace got up and went over to Marco. “What are you working on?” Marco hummed. “Commander work, yoi. It is where to have everyone on watch and such for the coming weeks, Pops need it tonight." Ace nodded. “Oh. …can I help?” Marco hummed a bit. “I am soon done, just need to add a few more names, yoi. Why don't you head out for breakfast, I will come in a few.” Ace nodded and did, and when he was out of the room in the hallway, he blinked as he saw Namur as well in the hallway.
They had 3 commander hallways, to spread out the commanders and not have them in the same halfway, which was probably smart. He didn't think he would run into anyone, he hadn't yet, not that he had been with Marco long, just a week, but still. He saw Namur blinking and Ace felt his heart race, before he spoke. “I just needed to ask him something.” Namur frowned a bit, seeming worried, so Ace spoke again as he moved his hand a bit, something he did when feeling unsure. “Nothing is wrong, I just wanted to ask about the…” Ace’s mind went blank for anything to have asked about.
Namur moved his hand a bit. “It’s okay. Don't stress, I know you're a thing. Or I had an idea, this proves it.” Ace blinked, “H-how?” Namur hummed. “I got a slightly heightened sense of smell, from being a fishman, so I could smell you on him and him on you. I don't judge, if you're both happy, I don't mind.” Ace moved a hand to his chest as he gave a breath, and Namur spoke. “You thought I would make a big deal about it?” Ace quickly shook his head. “No. I just… Pops knows about it, he approved and all that, but… they said this might give me more attention, and I…” Ace moved a hand to his arm, where he had most of his scars.
Namur’s face softened. “I see. I am sure it will go fine, I won’t tell anyone. May I ask who knows?” Ace nodded a bit. “Yeah. Pops, of course, and Izou. Those are the ones I think are the only ones.” Namur chuckled. “Of course Izou knows. He is Izou.” Namur smiled. “And again, should you, for whatever reason, need to talk to someone, I am here.” Ace smiled. “I know, and thank you.” Namur smiled. “No issue. Now, why don't we head to breakfast?” Ace smiled and nodded and they did, Marco did come a bit later and joined them, and Ace hoped everyone would take this like Namur did. He was worried about it. And what Pops had said as well, that some thought he was here as a mole. He loved it here, he didn't want to leave at all, he loved everyone here, and he knew he needed to tell everyone about this, both the fact he had the scars and that he was now with Marco. God, how did his life get so complicated? Well… he was to blame for a lot of it, in the sense he meant his scars. That was his own doing… Ace shook his head a bit and started a conversation with Izou, needing a slight distraction now he felt.
---x---
The next day, he gave a breath as he was in the kitchen with Thatch, helping him out. He was kneading dough again, and he knew after this, he would have a conversation with Jozu, about… his scars. He liked Jozu, he was nice and including. As he was kneading and soon done, Thatch spoke. “So… do you feel ready? Like, to talk with Jozu? Or would you like to not talk about it?” Ace sighed as he kneaded on. “I… what if he…” Ace didn't know what to say as a million thoughts were going through his mind. He was a bit startled when a hand moved to his back and turned to see Thatch smiling at him. “Hey, I know Jozu, he will be worried and shocked, but he will still like you.” Ace nodded a bit, he hoped so. They would do it in the kitchen, as it was a nice way to do it, as they got privacy and he knew Thatch wasn't far away.
Then he went on kneading, until he was done, and then it was just minutes left, so he dragged his sleeves down after watching his hands. And just as he had, the door opened and Jozu came inside. “You needed me, Thatch?” Thatch hummed. “Yeah, could you help cut some things? Ace will help as well, I need to prepare a few things in the galley.” Jozu nodded. “Sure, I can do that.” And went to a cutting board that had some vegetables by it. Thatch smiled. “Perfect! I will be back in a jiffy!” Then Thatch left.
Ace then started to cut some stuff as well, not sure what to say, so he started by normal chatting, which Jozu responded to. After a couple of minutes, when there was a silence, Jozu spoke. “I was a bit worried when I was asked to come here, Thatch at times does this so people can share things, usually bad stuff.” Ace blinked, before he took a breath. “About that…” Jozu sighed. “I spoke too soon, right? Damn, I do that at times. What's wrong?” Jozu then frowned. “Don't tell me anyone is giving you a hard time? And it's my division? Or any division.” Ace quickly shook his head. “No, but… I do have something to tell…” Ace wasn't sure what to say.
Jozu looked at him with worried eyes. “What is it? Can I do anything to help?” Ace shook his head a bit. “No, it is just…” A sigh. “My past, I won't go into details, but… I didn't have it too easy, not that everyone does. But it was a lot for me emotionally and mentally, and I needed an escape… And I found it… but it wasn't a good one…” Ace halted for a bit as he searched for his words. Jozu spoke worriedly. “What was your escape?” Ace sighed. “I… started to harm myself. I know it was wrong of me, I know I shouldn't have. but… it somehow made-” As Ace was trying to explain, he blinked when he was suddenly in a hug by Jozu, Ace didn't expect that, so that made him be quiet.
Jozu gave a breath. “I… have heard about it. Never knew someone though. I am so sorry you felt like that. You… you are done with this, right?” Ace quickly nodded. “Y-yeah. I am. But… I got… scars left… That's why I always wear a sweater.” Jozu nodded and moved a bit back but still kept his hands on his arms. “That's good. That you are done with it. I don't want you to feel like that or do that. You… remind me a lot of my younger sister.” Ace blinked. “Younger sister?” Rakuyo nodded. “Yeah, she is 14, or half sister, but we don't use half terms. You're my younger brother now, and I don't want to know you're hurting. So, can you promise me, that if you ever feel the need to, to come to me?” Ace nodded and gave a small smile. “I will. I… I am sorry I suddenly just said this, but… I want to be open with you, all of you. Even though that is hard.” Jozu nodded. “I know, and we are so many as well. You can’t just go out on deck and yell it either. Just, if you need it, I am here, okay?” Ace smiled. “Yeah.”
Jozu smiled. “Now… who else knows? Is that okay to ask?” Ace hummed. “It is. Uh, it is Pops, Marco, Thatch, Izou, Vista, Haruta, Rakuyo, and Namur. Oh, and Bay.” Jozu nodded. “I see. Now, this is not to deter you. But… when you tell Curiel just, he might have a small reaction, okay? But don't be afraid to tell him, just so you know.” Ace blinked. “W-why would he react to this?” Jozu sighed. “It is not my story to tell, okay? Just, he won’t get mad or annoyed at you, but be worried.” Ace nodded, he would be ready for that. But this had gone so well. Then Ace blinked a bit, before he spoke. “You… don't want to see?” Jozu shook his head. “Only if you feel comfortable to show. I will trust that you have stopped, since you told me so and I haven't seen anything else suggesting otherwise.” Ace smiled and nodded, this had gone so well.
Then they went on preparing what they could, before Thatch came back and helped with the rest, and it all went by fine and Ace was glad this had gone well. But now he felt worried about telling Curiel. He knew he needed to, but still… He would gather some courage and do it later. Not everyone could take it as well, he guessed.
And that's the chapter, hope you enjoyed!
This is mostly build up for later, and I felt Jozu would take this so calm

Chapter 22: Curiel
Chapter Text
Hello everyone, here is the next chapter!
In this we tell Curiel!
I hope you will enjoy
Read and relax
Ace laid leaning against Marco as they laid in bed, having just woken up and wouldn't get up just yet, Marco having a hand stroking his arm, which felt nice. Ace felt nervous about today. Marco hummed. “What's on your mind? Curiel, yoi?” Ace nodded a bit. “Yeah. I mean… Jozu mentioned he might have a reaction… But he wouldn't say anything more…” Marco nodded a bit and gave a kiss to his head. “I am sure it will go fine. And always know I am here for you, yoi.” Ace nodded and gave a smile. “I know. I need that reassurance now.” Marco shook his head. “No, it will go fine, I am sure, yoi.” Ace nodded, he hoped so.
After just relaxing together for a bit, Ace went out and went to the kitchen, going to do the usual thing. It was nice that Thatch allowed him to use the kitchen for this, as he felt comfortable in here and he knew Thatch wasn't far away should he need it. Thatch was in the kitchen with him now, and it didn't take long for Curiel to come. He knew Curiel had been a doctor, and he might have seen people who have self harmed before, that might be why, he wasn't sure. When Curiel came, Thatch said what needed to be done, before he excused himself and went to the galley, closing the door after him.
Curiel did start up a conversation, and after a bit, Ace gave a breath. “I- I asked Thatch to ask you to be here so…” Curiel nodded. “To speak with me? I had a feeling. So, what's up?” Ace sighed. “I won’t bore you with the details or all my past. But… I had it rough, not just physically, but mentally too. And I just… I needed an escape, and… I found one.” Curiel looked at him worriedly. “Please don't say the words I think you will say.” Ace gave a breath. “I think I am about too… I… started to self harm. I have quit it, I promise. But… I have… scars left.”
Curiel looked worried. “That's why you always wear a sweater or something with long sleeves. Have you… do you feel better?” Ace nodded. “I do. I really do. Things just were hard. I didn't know how to handle it. So I did it in a bad way. I… feel good now.” Curiel nodded and still looked worried. “I just… I don't know if I believe that. If I truly can.” Ace blinked. “Why not?” Curiel sighed. “I- when I was younger, when I was 17, I had a friend who had done the same, done self harm when she was 15 and 16, hadn't done it for a year and she looked to be so well. Then… one day, I got the news she jumped from a bridge, killing herself. She looked to be doing so well, but she wasn't. She was a close friend. I wish I could have done something. But… I don't know what. Probably been there more for her, picked up on things. I now see some of the signs, but I just.. brushed them off… She said she was fine, and because I didn't say anything against it, I lost her…” Curiel looked to feel guilty and worried.
Ace didn't know what to say at first. “I… I am sorry. I am sorry you lost a friend. That… that is so bad. I'm sorry.” Curiel shook his head. “It isn't your fault. I just… I don't want a repeat. You're my brother now, Ace. I don't want to lose you as well, not like that.” Ace nodded. “I get it. I do. I just… compared to then, I feel good. Better. Emotionally and mentally. Even psychically." Curiel nodded. “But what if you start to feel bad again? And no one picks up on it…”
Ace nodded a small bit. “I get that fear. But I am surrounded by people I know care. And… we’re not really telling people yet, but… Marco and I are a thing now, and I know if I need it, I can talk with him, or Bay, or Izou, or Pops. Or anyone. Not everyone knows about this part of my past yet, but getting there. I just… I want to be open with my family.” Curiel nodded. “And that's very good. I am just worried you one day starts to feel worse and we don't catch up on it. And that it ends badly.” Ace nodded. “I get it. But… I just guess you need to trust me. It’s odd to be around so many, but I also like it.”
Curiel nodded. “I guess I do. And Marco is good at catching onto stuff, same with Izou, they are so observant.” Ace nodded. “They are. And I've made a promise to myself that should I feel bad, I will tell someone.” Curiel nodded. “That's good.” Ace nodded, it was. Just then, he heard Thatch’s voice from the other side of the door. “Show him the butterflies!” Ace gave a breath with a small smile, he guessed Thatch was eavesdropping. Curiel blinked. “Butterflies?” Ace nodded and dragged up his sleeves and showed the old and new ones. “I first got them from my brothers, and was told not to kill them. And a few here have made them as well. It just… shows me I am not alone.” Curiel blinked. “That's… a very nice idea. Is there only special ones that are allowed to make them?” Ace shook his head. “Those who want to can. People in my family, people I like, people who care.” Curiel nodded. “May I be allowed to make one? I just need to think up a design.” Ace smiled. “I would love that.” Curiel smiled as well.
Curiel then looked at him with a half worried look. “And you promise you will tell someone if you feel down, right?” Ace nodded. “I will.” Curiel nodded. “Okay, good. Who is it that knows?” Ace hummed. “Thatch, Marco, Izou, Jozu, Bay, Vista, Haruta, Namur, Rakuyo, and Pops.” Curiel nodded. “And you and Marco were a thing?” Ace nodded. “We are, we have Pops’ approval for it as well.” Curiel nodded. “Good. Marco is a good man.” Ace smiled, Marco really was. And he was so glad this went by fine and he couldn't wait to tell Marco it went well as he had really been worried about this. But it went by fine, and he got why Curiel was worried. They then finished up the things they needed to do, Thatch also coming to help, and it was a quick affair. Then he walked out later and he felt better. And maybe he would get a new tattoo. He liked them. They meant a lot to him.
And that's the chapter! Hope you enjoyed
