Chapter Text

If there was one thing Katsuki could always count on, it was his proficiency in exams. As such, whilst everyone else studied tirelessly in the days leading up to their finals, he kept to his usual less intense schedule (though it was still plenty rigorous) and felt undaunted by the upcoming challenge. The most taxing part of the whole debacle was warding off the idiots in his class, else they’d surely leach away all his precious free time with their incessant questions and even more frequent begging for him to help them study.

This generalisation sadly included Izuku.

“Kacchan~” He drawled out the night before their first two exams, Chemistry and English. “I promise I tried to stick to that revision timetable you gave me to prepare for UA’s written entrance exams, but it was just so hard with hero training and internships and-”

“And making out?” Katsuki cut in, glaring at his annoying boyfriend over his book.

Izuku flushed, nodded and then went straight back to making excuses. “You must understand now that you’re in 1-A how so many different- but equally important,” He tacked on before continuing. “-things can just pile up! Plus, I’m struggling with some of the most recent Chemistry stuff and we both know just how amazing you are at chemistry.”

Predictably, Katsuki continued glaring. Izuku either believed he lacked all common sense or else thought his big, green, hopeful eyes were a lot cuter than they actually were. Katsuki told him as such.

“Besides,” He continued after a truly impressive torrent of insults that perfectly decimated any argument his boyfriend could have made. “If you were so damn desperate for help then why didn’t you ask for it, I don’t know, a fucking week ago?”

Sheepishly, Izuku’s gaze travelled quietly down from his eyes to fixate on his bedroom’s panelled floor, brow creased. “I was guiding so many study sessions that I didn’t have time…”

Well, Katsuki knew he’d been helping Pink Cheeks and Frogger on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday, and helping Shinsou and Aoyama on Wednesday (he had no fucking clue how that pairing interacted) but Friday and Saturday? Izuku should’ve been totally free. Katsuki recalled him even saying that he’d done extra physical training on those days.

“Don’t lie,” He snapped, tossing his book at Izuku’s dumb, empty head. Aggravatingly, he not only dodged the initial strike but also managed to catch the damn thing in his left hand- so Katsuki wiped the look of surprised pride off his face by nailing him right in the eye with his pen.

“I’m not lying!” He lied once more.

Katsuki stood up from his seat, finger pointing accusingly in between Izuku’s shifting eyes. “You must have had time on Friday and Saturday; you did extra training!”

“Um.”

Due to his lack of intelligent response, Katsuki determined that securing his Chemistry grade would be an utterly fruitless endeavour and promptly kicked him out of his room.

(Whether or not he left his notes on the idiot’s pillow later that evening was unimportant.)

The exams passed fluidly and without interruption, as was expected. He wasn’t infallible, so there were several challenging questions, but overall he found himself pretty confident. Most difficult was a question in the Quirk Studies exam- one in which the examinee was asked to write about how their quirk had impacted their life. Mentally it was far from draining, but emotionally it exhausted him. Katsuki probably lost marks on it, despite coming up with a reasonable response, simply because he’d chosen to write some bullshit about how his quirk made him ‘closer to his mother’, not mentioning the physical distance between them or the fact that their relationship was pretty much non-existent. It wasn’t necessarily untrue; he was certain that had his quirk been different she would be even more disinterested in him.

When Aizawa signalled the end of that exam the cheers were raucous.

Between Kaminari's joyous sobs and Ashido's squeals of delight, Katsuki felt a deep migraine begin to set in.

And then he yelled angrily at them all, patience drained despite the reasonable ease of the exams and his short fuse lighting quickly. They had the first of the practical exams tomorrow, and he would prefer to train for it after class rather get stuck in detention thanks to his classmates being too loud. In many ways 1-A far out ranked 1-C, but unfortunately this was especially true for the sheer heights of volume each class could create.

"Don't be rude, Kacchan~" Kaminari sing-songed out, apparently deaf to the small squeak Izuku let out at the nickname. "We're just happy that it's finally over ! No more exams!"

"But we have the practicals?" Mentioned Yaoyorozu, "And next term we'll do midterms and finals again, plus the licensing exams and any mocks we do-"

Ashido whined, long suffering. "Just let us be happy!"

"Surprised after all that studying you still have enough fucking room in your pea brain to feel happy."

What followed was a lecture from Iida and several muffled chuckles from the rest of 1-A, along with Ashido's many wails. It was nice- comfortable even, and Katsuki found himself happy despite how irritating his class managed to be.

Notes:

Okay so this is terribly written, barely edited slop, but it is the best I can do. It was this or just not update, and I was already feeling guilty from being a week late sooo that seemed unlikely. My motivation is just so low rn for e v e r y t h i n g and Idk how to fix it :/

Ik this is really short but a comment/kudos would still be much appreciated. Hopefully I'll update more substantially in fortnight but with everything going on I'm not sure yet. Please just be patient (which I already know that you are, dw) and keep safe :))

Notes:

I hope you enjoyed this chapter!!!!! I'm aiming for a weekly upload schedule, but that might change down the line so please be patient :))

No hate please!!!! If you don't like Bakudeku then you probably shouldn't have read this far, and I'd really appreciate not getting any mean comments, okay? We good?

I just realised I used too many exclamation marks... Ah well...

Comments and kudos fuel my very existence, see you next week! :))
