Bang.
Thunder sounded in the distance as a man with bandages on his arms and tears in his eyes, sat in an alleyway and ran his bloody hands through his dark brown hair.
This wasn’t supposed to happen.
He let a shaky breath out and stole another look at the motionless form on his lap. His throat tightened as he remembered what happened here moments ago. The bodies littered around told the story well.
He was staring now, almost as if he was willing to have the form move once more. What he would give to make that happen. He sighed in thought, moving a hand to wipe red off the form.
He’s still beautiful, he thought morbidly, the last of his gained humanity leaving once more.
Bang.
His heart pounded in his ears like the rain pouring around, as he brushed red hair out of the form’s face. He wished he could tell where the natural red started, and the blood red ended.
His other hand absentmindedly brushed metal. It was a familiar feeling, but not nearly as familiar as what he held on to. The man slowly lifted his hand up to his head, eyes not straying from what he was holding dearly.
He’s imagined this often-
Bang.
-but never like this.
He took a breath in and thought of his best memories. Days when he was young; days when he was older in knowledge but not much in age; the good days; the bad days; days he almost lost; days he fought on; the days he spent silently alone; and the days he spent loudly with the best company.
All of them were with him, or while missing him.
Bang.
It was almost time. The man knew he couldn’t wait longer, knew he didn’t want to. He didn’t want anyone around, for he knew what they’d say. He knew what the form would say too. But he couldn’t hear it anymore, so he ignored the quiet plea in his mind. It was only inevitable it would end like this. They were, and always have been, after all, two halves of a whole. Together and apart; in comfort and in pain; in peace and in war; and, in life and in death.
With a one last glance at his partner, he breathed out his last, lingering words, “See you soon, Chuuya.”
Bang.
