Chapter 1: A tale of a man and a monster

Chapter Text

It was cold dark night as 8 shadowy figures emerged from a thick fog on a small boat. A tarp covering over 2 little ones and one other person was taking over half of the boat. The other 3 people not hidden over the tarp were looking around anxiously. It was eerily quiet, the only sound being the gentle trickling of water. "Hold your ground men" whispered William, anxiously looking back at the tarp. Angelina tried to calmed down Wakko as he was whimpering quietly against Angelina's arms. Yakko, who was holding a sleeping Dot, was crouched down while darting his eyes back and forth from floor to tarp. Angelina opened her mouth to comfort Wakko when a gunfire broke the silence, then a thud on the side of the boat followed. "Quickly go,go,GO!" William shouted as he threw off the tarp.

Angelia along with Yakko stood, holding Wakko close to her. They both jumped off the boat, snow crunching as they landed on the shore. Immediately, Salazar and his guards blocked their exit, Salazar looked at the. "Where do you think your going peasant?" Salazar's cold voice echoed though the 3 corner stoned walls. William and both his men walked up in front of Salazar, both glaring at each other with an undying hatred. "You know who we are you monster" William growled

"Ah yes, the has-beens"

Angelina glanced at the hand motions William was secretly making behind his back. She slowly moved towards the exit inconspicuously, Yakko following suit.

One of Salazar's guards noticed the small group heading towards the exit.

"Hey you, Stop right there!"

She ran for dear life, Yakko on her tail. Angelina could hear a horse galloping behind her with shouting of guards. She grabbed Yakko's arm and turned swiftly to an alley, slowing down the guards. She made sure to put Yakko in front of her, checking on Dot before running off again through market stalls as the guards started catching up with her.                                                                                Trying to think of a way to throw off the guards, Angelina noticed a net above a fruit stall holding melons. Smirking, she hurriedly ran by the rope, pulling it as she continued running. Grinning as she heard the screams and toppling of the guards. But apparently not all of them as she could hear the horse still galloping behind her.

"Idiots"

Her blood ran cold at hearing the voice. 'If Salazar is here.....' "William" She slowed down, tears stinging her eyes. Wakko's whimpering brought back her senses and she ran after Yakko, who was frantically pointing at a small fence in a small corner. They both jumped over it as she could feel the horse behind her stopped with Salazar yelling at either the horse or Angelina. Yakko and Angelina ran into the middle of Warnerstock where a church stood. Angelina, at her wits end, ran towards the church as she could hear the horse struggling. Noticing the lock, she racked her brain for ideas. Someone was always in the church but now that it was under Salazar's rule, she was uncertain. Taking her chances, She ran towards the wooden doors and stopped, startling Yakko behind her.

"Yakko" She was breathless, she shuffled Wakko in her arms, checking is he was ok."I need you to go behind the church, at the back of it you'll see a small door hidden along the church design. You know which one that is right?"

Yakko nodded, having mezmorized where the secret door was before Salazar, often coming to the town during construction or for off days. He held on to Dot, who has somehow not woken up throughout the entire trek. He looked at his mother, noting the fear on her face which did not comfort Yakko in the slightest.                              Noticing Yakko's uncomfort, she pulled him into a warm embrace despite shivering from the cold. "Whatever happens, everything will be ok and I love you so,so much" She tried concealing her tears, barely noticing how her voiced cracked. "I love you too" Yakko gripped hard as his grip on Dot was loseining. He pulled away, looking at Wakko in his mother's arms. Hearing the horse, Angelina pushed Yakko before taking one last look at both him and Dot

"Go! Wait for me at the back!"

Immediately, Yakko held on to Dot and ran to the back of the church, stopping for a second to look back at her. The bad feeling in his gut flared but he shook it off and continued running.

Angelia banged on the church doors, holding Wakko closer to her with one arm, hoping he wouldn't hear her.

"SANCTUARY! PLEASE GIVE US SANCTUARY!"

Her voice was frantic as her banging on the door increased. Her pleas were getting louder knowing that Salazar was going to catch up to them at any second. She was begging, hoping someone, anyone was inside. Wakko's cries increased with her begs. She could hear the snow crunch behind her along with Salazar's' yells. She pounded the door harder, screaming at the top of her lungs. Just then, the horse struck her, throwing her off the stairs and she landed on her head on the edge of the steps. As ink poured out of her, staining the snow around her, the only thoughts in her head was hoping Yakko and Dot were alright and silently pleading Wakko would go with anyone but Salazar.

Salazar looked down at Angelina's lifeless body, then noticing a small blanket near her. Curious, he picked it up and looked inside. He grimaced when he saw it was one of the Warner children. Wakko was knocked out from being dropped. Looking so peaceful although he was in the hands of a dictator out to murder him.

He carried the bundle towards the well near the church, to his enjoyment, it was filled to the brim with DIP as he requested during his new rule. He held Wakko over the well, Wakko squirming at the smell of DIP filling the air.

"Stop!
Plotz stood behind Salazar, bringing guards with him

"There shall be no trace of the Warners left, I am giving it a peaceful passing" Wakko was starting to wake, the foul stench of DIP filling his senses. Salazar dangaling him a couple inches above the DIP.

"B-But sire, don't you think- well it's just a kid! How much trouble can it be?"

Salazar scoffed

"You have no idea.."

A sudden realization went over Salazar. He looked at Wakko, then at Angelina

"Very well, perhaps I'll let this one have mercy. As long as no one sees it"

Plots looked on confused as Salazar walked towards him. He shoved Wakko to him; "Let it stay here in this church, make sure no one finds it or mark my words you'll be having a meeting with the Warners if anyone finds it"

"Yes sir!"

His decision was a little odd yes, the mere thought of the Warners made his blood boil so why let one live? Considering no one liked Salazar and many were still loyal to William and Angelina, Wakko being a Warner could help him succeed with a little project.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Yakko was waiting patiently by the back door, shifting Dot in his arms, he shivered as he pulled his jacket closer to him. He froze when hearing guards coming up to the back. He frantically looked for a hiding place, finding only bare bushes. Luckily, abandoned boxes were nearby, he quickly dove behind them before tripping over an overgrown root growing between the pavement. Hitting his head on impact, he winced in pain as he could hear blood pounding in his ears. Hiding behind the boxes, holding close to Dot, Yakko begged for the guards not to hear him. Eventually everyone left, but Yakko stayed for a little longer to play it safe. When he assumed it was good to emerge from his hiding place, he heard something behind him.

"What are ya doin' here kid?"

Yakko jumped, almost dropping Dot. He grabbed for something in his pocket, not knowing what it was, he pointed it at the voice as he shook with fear.

"Geez kid don't have a heart attack on me ok"

The mysterious figure emerged from the shadows. It was a squirrel, a cloak draped over its head and shoulders, holding a green umbrella in one hand and a big sac was seen behind it.

Confused but still jumpy, Yakko stepped back holding what appears to be a small half broken stick. He held Dot close to his chest just in case the stranger tried to take her.

"Where are your parents? Or are ya one of those lonesome kid types"

The squirrel walked up towards him as Yakko froze in place. While the guards were near him whilst he was hiding, they spoke about of what they were supposed to do with the dead ex queen and king, as their only job was to get rid of them. Yakko blinked back tears as he turned his head away from the squirrel.

"Gone"

The squirrel arched her brow at Yakko's response. Poor kid, he looked too young to have to experience things as their parents dying."I'm sorry about that kid, I bet they were good people"

To his surprise, Yakko's mind went blank when he tried to remember his mother's words. Then he took note of how dizzy his head felt. " I-I guess."

"Here, come with me kid, it's dangerous if you stay here too long" The squirrel held out her hand. Yakko stared at it. He wasn't an idiot, he knew how dangerous strangers could be. Especially one holding a sack.

"Why should I?"

The squirrel sighed and pulled back her hand. "I get it, I wouldn't trust someone with a cloak and a sack that came from the shadows either. But kid, your gonna die if you stay here" Yakko understood that he and Dot where rolling the dice every second they stood at the church, but what else could they do? Trust a random cloaked stranger?        "Fine we'll go, but if you do something I don't like, we're leaving"

"Same to you" The squirrel turned around and led them through the alley she came from. Yakko slowly followed, clutching Dot as if she was his lifeline. The bad feeling in his gut died down a bit, replacing it with a new feeling. It was odd and he couldn't make sense of it. Yakko looked at the church as if it would clear things up. He shook it off once more and followed the squirrel into the alley.
