Work Text:

There he was, against any prediction, he was there. He was with Suguru, Satoru was with Suguru.

When Suguru had gone to face Satoru he had believed he would never see him again after that, not ever again. It was a sacrifice Suguru had already decided to take, it was a sacrifice he had already made peace with.

And then out of nowhere Satoru asked Suguru to let him go with him.

"I don't care what you do, as long as I can be with you, that's enough for me," said Satoru. "You know I couldn't care less about weaklings, people who can't even protect themselves.”

Suguru furrowed his eyebrows.

Sure, Satoru had always shown indifference towards people who he considered “weaklings”, but he had never hated or disliked  them.

He was going to ask Satoru what he meant when Satoru spoke up again.

“So if you wish to get rid of them, okay, let's do it. Just please don't push me away from you.”

He was taken off guard, he would have never expected things to unfold this way.

Nonetheless, he's glad he would not have to say goodbye to his greatest support, at least not for now.

"Thank you," is all Suguru said before embracing Satoru. "I know I can always count on you."

"You will always be able to," said Satoru.

The situation was bittersweet. Suguru knew that what would come for them from there on wouldn't be easy.

"Don't make that face," said Satoru after seeing Suguru's expression.

"What do you mean by that?" asked Suguru, dumbfounded.

"I mean that face,” he said as he pointed at Suguru. “You always make that expression whenever you're in fear or you're anxious."

"Really?"

"Yup," said Satoru. "But you've got nothing to worry about, we are the strongest, we'll figure things out!"

And Suguru almost completely believed it; he truly felt like there was nothing to worry about.

"Alright, let's go."

-

Since that day Suguru Geto and Gojo Satoru have been considered curse users. Till the current day no one has ever stood a chance of even matching their curse power.

They were unstoppable, as friends, as colleagues, as lovers.

The world would succumb at their feet.

-

At the beginning, Satoru wasn't sure of the decision he was making. But he later realized it had been the right choice.

He wanted to be able to wake up next to Suguru without having to worry about getting a mission for some idiot, and not being able to see him for days.

He loved being able to go to a restaurant, a theater or a park, without wondering when would be the next time they would get their missions and have to part ways. He loved being able to don't give a fuck about the rest, about whether they lived or they died, it was refreshing to don’t feel such a pressure.

It was selfish, he knew. But he couldn't bring himself to care.

All Satoru cared about was that he was with Suguru, and they were having the time of their lives.

If someone would have told Satoru that being a curse user was so liberating, he would have done it way sooner. Maybe he would have even been the one to incite Suguru.

But there was an important difference.

Satoru didn't believe that he was doing any greater good, he knew that what he was doing was wrong, he knew that perfectly.

But he couldn't care.

Meanwhile, Suguru did all that believing it was for the greatest good, that it was the best that he could do to stop innocent shamans from dying.

Satoru couldn't care less about other shamans, but he did care about Suguru, perhaps Shoko and Nanami too. And some other bunch of exceptions.

But for most of the time, Gojo Satoru couldn't be bothered with whatever happened to any person.

If any other person would had told him that he would go murder people to make a better world, Satoru would have called them nuts. But not with Suguru. He had been the only person who Satoru had ever truly opened to, the only person that truly understood him and the only person Satoru truly understood. So, when out of nowhere Suguru wasn't acting as Satoru recalled, he was utterly confused. But, he wanted  to make amends, he wanted to know this Suguru who had been unknown to him for so long.

He will learn about Suguru all over again. And as many times as he needs until Satoru knows every little aspect of him, every little detail that makes Suguru who he is.

He was glad, oh so glad that Suguru had given him that opportunity even after he felt he was misunderstood by Satoru. He had already apologized several times, for not realizing, for not talking with him, for not understanding him, for not being there when Suguru needed him the most.

He would always apologize because he would never stop feeling sorry for that.

But he wished to fix that, hence why he made the commitment that no matter what Suguru would do, he would always be there to support him.

Suguru now knew that. He was glad, as glad and as happy as he could ever be.

Their life as criminals for jujutsu justice wasn't easy, wasn't perfect, in fact, really far from it. But neither of them could hate it at all, they finally felt free; they finally felt like they could do whatever they wished, and be whoever they wanted.

-

"This is what true freedom means?" once asked Satoru.

"Part of it," said Suguru. "The world is still far from being perfect, but I feel that every time I'm closer to achieving a world in which I can laugh from the bottom of my heart.”

After that there was a long pause, and Suguru spoke up again.

“Thank you for being part of this new world."

"I’m glad you are near your goal," replied Satoru.

Yeah, that was good. No, rather, it was perfect. Satoru wished nothing else but to be able to be with Suguru and for him to be happy.

Yes, that was good, that was all he wished for.

-

Anyone who would stand in their way would perish.

As partnership knows no bounds, both Suguru and Satoru were willing to do anything for each other. Not only that but they also worked in perfect synchrony and had unmatched curse power. They were the perfect partners and the hardships had helped them become close, again, all their differences apart, they were now one.

One to be feared, one to be respected, one to be the best.

The world could perish, it could get destroyed, everyone could die, but they would stand all over that. No matter what happened, they would have each other, and that was more than enough for them.

After all, they were the strongest.

Notes:

I tried to make the ending as positive as I could,,,,

I originally planned to make a different prompt and make a multi chapter but I ended deciding to do this one, since this scenario was one that I had been thinking about for a while and I didn't made it that long because I felt I would end making it angsty. I can't for my life read angsty fics but I just tend to gravitate towards angst when writing.

Anyway, hope you like it!
