Chapter Text
-Fur
A very common warrior name. Used by all clans.
Its meaning is usually to denote how the warrior’s fur may match their prefix name. Eg: Oakfur, Squirrelfur, Stonefur, etc. Secret meaning: Look out, this hardworking warrior is awesome! Eg: Brackenfur, Stonefur,
Uses: If you need a quick warrior name, go with the suffix -fur. But please, if you have another name that can work well with the cat’s personality, use it! For example, Snowfur and Bluefur could instead have been named Snowflower and Blueflare. Creative, true to the character, and still has the letter f.
-Belly
A not-so common name. Seen use by Riverclan and Shadowclan. Eg: Loudbelly and Hollowbelly.
Meaning: The bearer is needy and constantly grabbing for more. This does not mean that bearer is gluttonous. The cat could be begging for attention or ambition. Hopefully, by becoming a warrior, the cat has grown out of this fault. If not…
Uses: Want the reader to go “This cat?”, write the name -belly. NOTE: if I cannot find a use after the obvious, I will not write it.
-Tail
A very common name. Used by all clans, though for different reasons.
Most used meaning, especially for Thunderclan: Pointing out an obvious trait about the tail. Eg. Longtail, Rosetail, Halftail, ect.
Other meanings: Windclan, the tail suffix is used for Tunneler’s, showing how the cat can be pulled out of dangerous situations. Eg, Talltail with his first experience with tunneling and quest for revenge. Riverclan, the -tail denotes how the cat has found balance within themselves. Doesn’t say anything about keeping it though… Shadowclan, though it uses -tail for the obvious reason, this clan has another use for the term. -Tail is used for someone who is a follower. For example: Stumpytail and Frogtail. Stumpytail followed his mentor around, despite the clear signs of abuse. Frogtail followed Brokenstar’s warriors, ignoring the teachings of his mentor Archeye. This case is important as the Frogpaw with markings on his tail is in Riverclan, not Shadowclan. Final example, though not Shadowclan, is Lighting Tail, named for how he followed Thunder around.
Use: Okay if you have to use it. But remember the other meanings. This will really help you when you want to write the character of named warrior. Are they just your everyday warrior, a follower, or someone who needs and can be helped? Have fun.
-Foot
Common Name. Used by all clans.
Most used meaning; to denote a trait about the foot. Eg. Deadfoot, Palefoot, Oddfoot, Blackfoot.
Other meanings: 1) the person is a traveler and an explorer. 2) The cat has found where they belonged. Eg. Mistyfoot and spoiler for my fanfic.
-Leap
Not-so common name. Used by all clans.
Meaning: Use to denote both an energy and excitedness to their work and/or personality. Always happy to help a clanmate or hunt. Other meaning: Watch out, this cat can jump.
-Breeze
Not so common name. Used by Thunderclan and Riverclan, despite the feel that the suffix belongs to Windclan. However, we have no evidence that Windclan used this suffix on the Warriors’ Wiki.
Meaning: In the case of Riverclan, Willowbreeze was named so to remember her Windclan heritage. For Thunderclan, it shows that the cat has a willingness to learn, with courage to go with it. Eg. Nettlebreeze and Swiftbreeze.
-Nose
Common name. Used by all clans.
Main Meaning: This cat is haughty as heck, as seen by how the cat’s nose is so stuck up in the air. See Beetlenose, a son of a leader.
Alternate Meaning: This cat is a really good tracker. If you are a mouse or a fugitive, you better hope that this cat is on the other side of the territory. Possible example, Jayfeather if he became a warrior.
Another example: Berrynose of Thunderclan.
One would think that he was named -nose because he was haughty. Which is very true. However, one would recall that Berrynose had gotten trapped in a trap when he was a kit, leaving his tail as nothing more than a stump. Berrypaw’s humiliation at his tail was so great, he trembled at the possibility that his warrior name would be Berry-stumptail. Firestar, thank goodness, pulled a curve ball by naming him Berrynose. Now, everyone focuses on Berrynose’s pink nose, not his very short tail. I believe Firestar was so successful, that no fan even thought of calling Berrynose his nickname when he was being a douche-bag in the Broken Code.
