Chapter Text

It was a stormy night in June when Magnus phone was going off, he was half asleep, when he answered.

Hello do you know what time it is,
I’m sorry is this Mr bane…. Magnus bane.

Sitting up straighter, Magnus answered yes this is he. Who am I speaking to, I’m Dr Tessa Gray do you know an Imasu Morales,

Yes, his my good friend and dive partner, is he ok, I’m truly sorry to tell you this Mr bane, but Imasu Morales was killed in a car crash just under an hour ago.

Magnus couldn’t breathe, or speak, he started to shake and had tears streaming down his face,

No…no…it can’t be him we just got back, and he was going straight home, I’m very sorry Mr bane he was hit by a drunk driver on the way home,

C…ca…can I come in and see him please Dr, yes of course we will set up a room for you, we will see you soon Mr bane, again I’m deeply sorry.

Magnus got up and quickly dressed, he grabbed his car keys and walked out the door,
Making his way to the hospital,

It took 30 minutes to get there, he parked his car and walked to reception,

How may I help you dear, the lady behind the desk asked, I got a call about my friend, Imasu Morales,

One moment please dear, the lady checked her computer and then with a sad smile she said I will get someone to escort you,

Magnus gave a small nod and moved away from the desk.

Magnus looked up when he heard a voice ask hi I was told my dad is here, that he was in a car accident.

What’s his name love, lightwood… Robert lightwood, one minute please Hun I will look we’re he is,

His just having his x-ray once his finished I will get someone to come and get you dear.

Thank you, Alec said and walked away and sat down, Magnus watched the boy sit a couple of spaces away from him,

I hope your dad is ok, Alec looked at the man thanks, but I was told he was drink-driving, and got into a car accident,

Magnus was about to say something when the Dr come out Magnus bane, hi we spoke on the phone I’m Dr gray… Tessa gray.

If you would like to come this way I will take you to you're friend, does he have any family, no just me well I guess I’m family and he has loads of friends,

They stopped outside a room, Magnus walked in and the Dr said she will be right outside, if he needed her.

Imasu lay on the bedsheet up to his chest, eyes closed, Magnus took his hand and was shocked at how cold it was,

He spoke to Imasu and apologized for not being there, for him and how he was the most important person in his life and his best friend they were family, he placed a kiss on his head and walked out the room,

With tears in his eye, trying to hold it together until he got home, he walked over to the desk were the Dr and a nurse was and see the same boy from down reception sitting on a chair outside a room,

Dr. gray can you call Imasu diving coach please, she will arrange everything, yes of course, she gave Magnus a pen and pad, and Magnus wrote the name and number of Imasu’s diving coach they both had different ones.

Handing the pad and pen back, Magnus said, that boy's dad killed him didn’t he, I’m sorry Mr bane, but we can’t give out that information,

If you wait here I will get someone to walk you out, Magnus walked over and sat down in the chairs,

Is everything ok Alec asked the man, yes no thanks to your father, the boy looked confused, he killed my friend,

I hope he rots in hell, and you can join him… hey I just met you, you don’t know a god dame thing about me, so back off…

Magnus was angry he just lost his best friend and found out this boy’s father did it, Magnus punched the boy, turned around and walked off and out the hospital.

One year later

Magnus woke up at 5:00am he had a shower and got in tight black jeans and a blue and gold silk shirt, it was on the warm side for he didn’t need a jacket,

He walked out in the main room and went to the kitchen he made himself some mixed fruit and an omelet, he sat at the breakfast bar and ate,

He was going to be meeting his new diving partner today he had a few but non stuck, and they left he only did singles in competition these days,

Magnus finished eating and went to the door he picked up his bag car keys wallet and left, he was meant to have a meeting at the main office,

he was told to be there at 6 and if the meeting went well, they will head to the gym to start practicing on the ground and trampoline’s, and maybe just maybe they might make it to the pool.

Alec woke to the sound of his alarm blaring at 5:00am he got up and went to take a shower,

He throws on some clothes and grabbed a quick breakfast he was out the door by 5:30 he had a meeting at the main office at 6:00 and was meeting his diving coach Luke Garroway there,

Alec just pulled up outside when he stopped, the last person he ever thought he would see again, the man from the hospital a year ago.

That dreadful night one year ago,

Alec just walked in the hospital and made his way to reception,

There was the most beautiful man he had ever seen sitting on the chairs looking sad,
I walked up to the reception desk and said.

Hi I was told my sad was in a car accident,
The nice-looking old lady behind the desk said what’s his name love, I gave my dads name to her and was told his in x-ray,

I decided to take the seat a couple of chairs away from the beautiful man.

The next thing I knew was a beautiful sound coming out of the man saying I hope your dad is ok he a smooth silky voice with a hint of sadness,

I thanked the man and said I was told he was drink-driving the man had an unreadable expression on his face, and it looked like he was going to say something to me but the Dr walked out and spoke.

Then the man was up and following behind the Dr, a couple of minutes pasted by and another Dr come out and said Mr lightwood,

I looked up and said, please call me Alec, hi Alec I’m Dr Catarina Loss, you can call me cat, your dad has just come back from x-ray there are two policemen speaking with them at the minute,

But you can go in once they have finished, walking down the long corridor they arrived at a room one of the officers waved me in,

I opened the door to see my dad with one arm handcuffed to the bed, he looked at me In disgust and said this is all your fault you little shit, if you wasn’t such a dirty little fag none of this would've happened,

Alec put his head down and was stearin at the floor, his dad said and what the hell was you doing in my house, you are no longer welcome there I told you that,

I was getting the rest of my stuff when the home phone rang, I left a message for mum, so I’m going to leave now don’t worry about that,

I turned around and one of the officers said, I’m sorry his extremely drunk, and his under arrest, your father killed someone tonight son, I’m so sorry,

Don’t be I said he clearly doesn’t care what his done, and you just heard what he said to me, my mum should be here soon,

Alec walked out the room and come across some chairs in the hallway, sitting down and going over everything his dad just said to him,

Then the same man from downstairs sat down it looked like he had been crying,
I asked if the man was ok,
He said yes no thanks to my father oh no it must be some his knows that my father,

No, that Robert killed then the man was saying he hopes my father rots in hell and that I can join him,

What did I ever do to anyone I don’t derive to be spoken to like that not anymore, I was angry now and said,

hey I just met you, you don’t know a god dame thing about me so back off, the next thing I see was the man fist coming towards my face the bang he punched me and walked off,

The doctors come and asked if I was ok, I said I was and walked to the entrance of the hospital to go home,

A couple of months later, Alec read that his dad was sentenced to 25 years in prison and had to pay $50,000 compensation to the victim’s family,

this was not his dads first time drunk behind the wheel it was his dads fourth and this time his had killed someone, that’s why he got such a long prison sentence.

Back to present day

Alec was so lost in thought thinking back to that horrible day, he didn’t see that same man staring at him then walking off into the building,

The next thing Alec noticed was someone taping him of the shoulder and calling his name coming back to himself, he sees Luke standing in front of him,

Are you ok kid Luke said, yea…yes I’m fine, let’s get this over with, do you know the name of their person I’m going to be diving with Alec asked Luke?

No kid we find out once in the meeting come on, or we are going to be late, walking into the building we were told to go up to the third floor, and it’s the big Oval Office on the right,

Heading towards the elevator we got on and traveled up to the third floor we got off, Luke was in front of me, so I just followed behind him,

We come to a door and Luke walked in stepping to stand next to Luke I see the same man from the hospital,

You have got you be kidding me I said, at the same time the man said,
I don’t fucking think so.

I’m not working with him no way, said Magnus his dad was the one who killed Imasu,

Magnus’s dive coach Ragnor Fell put an arm around him, calm down sweet boy, Magnus was breathing heavy.

Luke was doing the same to Alec, the last time I see him, he punched me, it’s ok Luke said we will sort this all out everything will be fine,

Lets all calm down and take a seat, everyone moved to different sides of the table Magnus sat down with his coach Ragnar and his personal physician Dr Catarina Loss,

Alec only had his coach Luke with him, he didn’t have a personal physician,

Ok, now that everyone has taken their seats let go around the room and introduce ourselves.

I’m Ki ho sin and this is Emily Marcus, we are from the specialized Diving committee,

I’m Ragnor fell coach,
I’m Magnus bane diver
And I’m Dr Catarina loss Magnus’s personal physician.

I’m Luke Garroway coach,
Alexander Lightwood, you can call me Alec,

Ok, let’s get this meeting started,

So coach Garroway, coach fell, approached us in regard to using Alec as a synchronized dive partner for Alec,

I know they both compete in both singles and synchronized competitions, and have both made it into the Olympic that is 4 months away.

Luke was whispering to Alec, if he doesn’t agree to be synchronized partners we still made it into the Olympic’s in the single event,

You are a remarkable diver Alec, don’t let him make you fill any different,

On the other side Magnus’s team was talking to him, look Magnus we know this year has been difficult for everyone, but if we don’t all work together, America will only have divers in the single event and not the synchronized event,

Whatever you decide we are with you all the way Magnus, ok fine, but I want to talk to Alexander before we go any further,

Do we all have an agreement ki asked yes we do said Luke, yes said Ragnor, but Magnus has asked to speak with Alec privately,

Luke looked at Alec who only gave a small nod,
Everyone got up and left the two divers in the office and closed the door behind them.

Chapter Text

The room was far too quiet, Alec wasn’t going to speak first as Magnus requested to speak to him in private.

Magnus was just staring at the boy in front of him, he wanted to clear the air or try to, so they can both at least try to dive with each other, Magnus though of the one question he wanted answers too,

But decided on a smaller get to know you questions for now.

How old are you, Alexander?

Shocked to hear Magnus speak, Alec looked at Magnus with a confused look on his face.

Your age darling, oh err 18, oh crap Magnus fault and then said so a year ago, you were 17 when I punched you, Alec just shrugged it doesn’t matter.

Alec had a look on his face like being punched was no big deal, it unsettled Magnus, and he felt guilty at that moment.

Well darling it does matter, and I’m sorry I punched you, it was wrong of me to take my anger out on you.

H….how is your dad I heard the news that he got 25 years and had to pay $50,000 compensation to the family, well, to me, I should say.

I don’t know how he is, I don’t speak to him or my family for that matter, I was only there that day because I was home packing the rest of my stuff,

When the phone rang, so I answered it, I then left a message for my mum and I don't understand why, but I made my way to the hospital, I got there see you, and we’ll, I was taken to see him and got abuse off him, so I went outside and that’s when you punched me, and then I left.

Alec was now starting at his lap, he didn’t dare look at Magnus,

Magnus was looking at Alec for the first time with a shocked look on his face, this poor sweet boy, he has been through so much and Magnus didn’t make it any easier on him.

Magnus got up and walked around to where Alec was still sitting with his head down, he pulled out a chair and sat next to him,

Magnus decided to wrap an arm around Alec I’m so sorry Alexander, can I ask why he kicked you out darling and why you no longer speak to your family?

Alec slowly lifted his head up he had a few tears streaming down his face, wiping his hand across his eyes to clear them, his said I come out as gay.

They called me a disgrace to the family and disgusting.

Oh, you sweet boy you are none of them things, you are beautiful and there is nothing wrong with you.

Magnus and Alec sat there for a few minutes before Magnus said I’m bi, my mum killed herself when I was 8 and my father well I never knew him.

Alec looked over at Magnus, it’s only fair Magnus said since you told me about yourself,
Now we know each other, and the rest of it will come in time.

So does that mean you will dive with me Alec said, well, it depends replied Magnus getting out the chair and walking to the door, on what answered Alec also getting up and moving to the door if you're any good said Magnus.

They both gave each other a small smile and both walked out the door.

They were meeting with their coaches, Magnus and Alec both said they're fine and will try to dive together.

They all made their way to the entrance, and were going to their own cars to make their way to the aquatics Center to begin their first dive practice on mats and the trampoline.

Magnus walked to his car and unlocked it sliding into the driver’s seat he started the engine, he fills somewhat ok about the conversation with Alec and realised it’s not his fault, but it didn’t change that Alec’s father whether they speak or not killed his best friend.

Alec was following behind Luke in his car, he thought their Conversation went well, but they will need to speak and get to know each other better if this is ever going to work.

And who knows, maybe they can be more than friends, no bad Alec that can never happen what was you thinking.

Pulling up at the Aqua Centre, Alec got out the car and walked over to Luke. Magnus and his team joining them, Alec and Magnus went off to the changing rooms,

Alec put on a pair of black Adidas shorts and a white tank top.

Magnus changed in to a loose pair of tracksuit pants and a black tank top.

Both walking out the changing room, they made their way to the dry diving area where the mats and springboards and trampolines are for practice before going into the pool.

Ok mags Alec you are going to do a standing jump first, and then we will move to the springboards ragnor said.

They both walked up to the mats and stood, Magnus looked at Alec and said do you want to count or say ready,

Ready Alec said Magnus gave him a nod once they were both set, Alec said ready
followed by Magnus’s 1…2…3… Go they both jumped and landed together without falling over or moving.

They did this for a couple of times then they made there was to the foam pit they both walked onto a springboard and again Alec said read and Magnus said 1…2…3… Go they both jumped twice on the springboard and landed in the foam pit together.

After an hour, it was decided to make their way to the pool they were starting off at pool side then going to the 1 m platform and eventually end up at the 10 m with Alec and Magnus both dive in single’s and hopefully the synchronized event.

Both now changed into their trunks they made their way pool side they did their first forwards dive into the pool they left the same time and went into the water the same time.

Climbing the stairs to the 10 m platform in silence, Alec was thinking that they dive well together but if Magnus decided he couldn’t dive with him, he will accept it and just do the single's event in the Olympic’s.

Magnus, on the other hand, was thinking that Alec was an excellent diver and despite what went on a year ago he thinks they can win this, they already dive really well together.

Both walking to the edge of the platform for the last time that day, Alec said ready and Magnus followed with a 1…2…3… Go they both jumped and got into the perfect forwards position,

Hand coming to a hold arm tucked close to the ear then they both hit the water, after a little while they come up for air and swam to the side climbing out the pool,

Alec was meet by Luke, who was telling him that his dive and execution were both perfect and that his in top form for the Olympics.

Magnus was meet by ragnor and cat, who both congratulated him on his dive and said he was perfect as always,

After a quick bye to Luke and a promise to call later, Alec walked back to the changing room, he quickly dressed and put everything in his bag and walked out.

Looking over to we’re Magnus was still talking, Alec walked out the doors and got into his car and headed for home.
