“He’s imprinting.” He shakes his head as it’s fogged over for a moment, he’s never had anyone imprint on him before, but he remembers having imprinted on his dad when he’d been really young, and how painful it was when they’d been forced apart. “Aw shit, no hatchling don’t do that, no no no.” Those little eyes well up with tears, that little lip starts wobbling, and he melts. “Aw, no, no don’t cry it’s okay.” Letting go of his friends wrist, Hawks leans over the crib to lift the winged babe up into his arms, turning him slightly to press him against his chest. Nuzzling the infant soothingly, he coos down at him soft and low, clicking his tongue lightly. “It’s okay, mama’s here.”
“Mama?”
“Shut up.”
