Chapter Text
Two days after her riveting adventure in the industrial sector, Roxanne found herself humming a tune while she was walking to work. Her shoulder was feeling almost completely back to normal, save for a bit of stiffness right when she woke up.
It was honestly thrilling having such a large secret that no one else knew. She loved that she kind of almost knew where Megamind’s Lair was, and she was pretty sure she was the only person in all of Metro City that had his number.
This kind of information also made it maddening that she couldn’t tell anybody.
She could imagine the attention an article about her adventure would get. She had intel about what the City’s supervillain did outside of his battles with Metro Man, the meetings he had with the new criminals entering Metro City. There was also of course the interesting tidbit that the alien who kidnapped her and put her life in peril on the weekly stepped in and probably saved her life.
And he liked reality TV.
And she couldn’t tell a soul.
Well, she supposed she could if she really wanted to, but she was absolutely not going to betray his trust like that.
That was a weird thought to her, the notion that there was some sort of shared trust between the two of them, a shared trust between a supervillain and damsel.
Regardless, she was elated that he somewhat opened up to her and there was no amount of money or career boost that could sway her into telling a word of what occurred.
A buzz from her phone in her purse pulled her thoughts away from the potential article. She could feel her heartbeat pick up as she rummaged around for it, but her heart dropped a tad when the name on the screen was her boss and not the person she was hoping.
Make sure you have your report on the East Side bridge collapse to me by the end of the day, thanks Ritchi
She sighed.
Another weird thought, why on earth did she subconsciously want it to be Megamind who texted her?
They hadn’t texted since their first conversation two nights ago, and she couldn’t place exactly how that made her feel.
She was technically the last one to respond so he should technically be the one to initiate the next conversation, Roxanne’s middle school-esque logic reasoned.
She knew that was dumb but also it was enough for her to not initiate further conversation (although it seemed like every other thing in the past 48 hours made her think about him and she had no idea what the hell that was about).
Will do
Roxanne typed back to her boss. She swiped out of their text conversation, and then held her finger tentatively over Megamind’s contact.
She didn’t even know what she would say, so with a twist in her stomach she moved her finger away and went to click off her phone.
Suddenly, her phone buzzed and a notification from Megamind popped onto her screen, which she immediately clicked on.
Heads-up
Something in her chest jumped. Heads-up? Heads-up for wha-
And then she was out cold, swung into the invisible car by Megamind’s fishy accomplice.
“Ugh Megamind, really?” Roxanne grumbled when she came to. Though she was complaining she was secretly elated to be back on his kidnapping schedule.
“I did try to warn you, Miss Ritchi.” Her eyes met a smug smirk and a raised brow once he plucked the bag from her head.
He was perched on his chair, his legs crossed and bracing his elbow, his chin resting on the palm of his gloved hand. His head was tilted slightly downwards, and he was innocently blinking up at her through his eyelashes.
“That was barely a heads-up, that’s not fair,” she retorted, punctuating with an eye roll.
“Supervillainy doesn’t operate within the limits of fairness, my dear damsel.” The smug grin was still plastered across his face, but underneath there was something else.
Roxanne couldn’t quite place it, but it looked like there was almost a fondness in his expression.
She had to be reading that wrong though. Supervillain, she reminded herself.
Roxanne huffed in response, then looked around the room for whatever doomsday device Megamind came up with this time. She was hoping she could make some comment that would knock that smug grin straight off his face, she didn’t immediately see one though.
“No doomsday device this time? If you wanted to see me so bad you should’ve just called.”
Megamind bit back the blush that almost spread up his cheeks. Was that something he could do now? No no, she was just engaging in their typical banter. Boundaries, he reminded himself.
“While seeing you is a delight as usual,” it was Roxanne’s turn to hide a blush, “I’m afraid that’s not the reason I brought you here today. Prepare to meet your demise!”
With a flourish of his cape, he leapt out of his chair and spun around to press a button on his control desk. The curtains in the lair began to fold in on themselves as they pulled away, revealing a giant windmill with dozens of mini rockets attached.
Roxanne was staring with amazement at the invention.
Megamind’s focus was solely on her.
He was correct the other night, this one did make her light up.
She turned her eyes back to him after fully taking in the whole thing, her look of amazement quickly turning into a sultry smirk.
“You know, I expected,” she started,
“A supervillain’s rocket to be much larger” they said in unison, Roxanne still in her teasing, sultry tone and Megamind in singsongy mocking.
Roxanne’s jaw dropped, but she quickly snapped it shut and glared at him in pure agitated disbelief.
“But,” she started again, still glaring, “I guess it’s not the”
“Size that matters it’s how you use it!” Megamind joined in again, perfectly matching her tone and cadence. He had a huge, delighted smile playing across his entire face.
Roxanne was absolutely fuming, staring daggers at Megamind, which only made his smile increase tenfold.
“You fucker, what the hell-”
“It appears you may be the predictable one, Miss Ritchi,” the supervillain exclaimed gleefully, leaning in toward her with a cocked eyebrow.
This pissed off Roxanne even more, that was her line, how dare he take it and use it against her. She was about to open her mouth to yell at him, but immediately had a better idea.
She tilted her head downwards and looked up at him with a wicked, seductive glint in her eyes, before licking her lips and catching the bottom one in her teeth. She dropped her gaze and made an absolute show of running her eyes up his entire body, slowly, drinking every inch of him in.
“Why don’t you untie me and I’ll show you just how unpredictable I can be,” she murmured once her challenging eyes finally met his.
Megamind was opening and closing his mouth, as if his body was trying to say words his brain had not yet formed. His eyes were unblinking and as wide as saucers, occasionally flicking down to where her teeth were holding onto her bottom lip again.
God she loved making him squirm. It was so fun making his entire face turn from blue to a bright, rosy pink, and she loved that it was so easy for her to put him at a complete loss for words. Roxanne Ritchi could render the monologuing supervillain silent, it was quite the accomplishment.
There was also something that felt risky or dangerous whenever she took the flirting maybe a bit too far. Not dangerous as in he might hurt her, but dangerous in a way she couldn’t quite place but that made her heart thump loudly in her chest.
She arched an eyebrow in silent challenge, and Megamind gulped in return.
He stepped backwards and put a gloved arm out behind him to catch himself on the control desk. He didn’t trust his legs to keep holding him up while she was looking at him with such fierce hunger, even if it was all just for the bit.
His descending palm hit a large red button that he had installed last night and entirely forgot about in the current moment, causing the windmill to start turning. It was slow at first, but it began to pick up speed as it gained momentum.
Megamind’s brain finally caught up as he whipped around in alarm.
As if on cue, Wayne burst through one of the Lair’s huge windows and the cameras started rolling as Minion scrambled to get everything running so suddenly.
“Megamind! Thought you could pull a fast one and take over the city without me noticing?” Wayne boomed in his hero voice. “Unfortunately for you I caught wind of your plan and am going to put an end to it!”
“How foolish of me to think you would be milling about and miss this spectacular show,” Megamind immediately responded, jumping into character without missing a beat.
“Unluckily for you I am a big fan of justice, and nothing could get between me and putting an end to your plan!” Wayne flew in a circle around the room, making sure to stay in shot of each camera broadcasting.
“Defeating you will be a breeze , and then Metrocity will be mine!” With that final pun Megamind pressed a second big red button to begin the show.
Dozens of red lasers turned on and spun outwards from the windmill, one coming from each of the miniature rockets. One at a time, the rockets began to launch off of the windmill. As each one detached, the red laser sight settled on Metro Man, locking onto their target with precision.
Metro Man easily dodged the first few, quickly flying between them and causing them to collide with each other and explode.
For the next few, he changed direction so fast the rockets could not recalibrate, so they went careening into various parts of the Lair.
Metro Man was getting quickly overwhelmed, at least as far as the cameras were concerned, so he picked up a metal bar off of the ground and started making a show of whacking them away like baseballs.
This was working pretty well, so he started aiming them toward Megamind. The first one Megamind easily leaped over, but he shot a worried look backwards towards Roxanne. If he knew Metro Man was going to start playing with these explosives he would've added extra safety precautions to the chair.
In order to make sure no more rockets were even remotely flying near Roxanne, he turned and started sprinting across the Lair to the other side where the Windmill of Death and Destruction was. He would much rather have his invention blown up than Roxanne even come close to getting injured.
Metro Man thought Megamind was running as part of the game, and started aiming his hits closer to the supervillain.
He ducked under the next one, then had to lunge forward and tuck and roll as the following one hit right where he was about to step.
As the rocket hit the ground and exploded, shrapnel ricocheted in all directions and Megamind had to quickly lift his hands to cover his face from the sharp metal. His leathers were thick enough to armor his body, but there was nothing to protect his head and the front of his neck.
One shooting piece sliced through the strap of the watch on his left wrist, which then went flying across the room as he ripped his hands away from his face to dodge another flying rocket.
The watch skidded to a halt a few feet away from where Roxanne was tied down in the chair.
Her eyes lit up.
She loved to take things from the kidnappings whenever she could, which was rare. There were three conditions that had to be met: there had to be a loose piece worth taking near her, Megamind had to be distracted, and whatever she took had to be small enough to be able to fit into her shoe.
The only things she managed to steal in the past six years were basically garbage, small things like nuts and bolts and small circuit boards. She kept them all in a box buried deep in the back of her closet, and while it might’ve looked to the outside eye to be a simple box of spare parts, she remembered exactly which kidnapping each souvenir came from. She wasn’t sure why but they meant something to her, and Megamind’s watch would be an insanely cool addition if she could manage to grab it.
Looking up to make sure Megamind was thoroughly distracted by Wayne, Roxanne slipped one foot out of her heel and reached it out to where the watch was laying on the ground.
She was inches away from it, and strain as she might she could not get near enough to be able to grab it.
With a determined puff of air through her nose, she returned her foot to her shoe and then began to methodically wiggle the chair closer. This was much bolder than she normally was, but this prize was worth it.
She watched Megamind expertly weave and dodge the rockets Wayne was batting at him as she scooted the chair closer, centimeter by centimeter.
Checking one last time to make sure she wouldn’t get caught, she slipped her foot back out of her shoe and reached it as far out as she could.
As the cold metal of the watch met her toes, the last rocket was fired toward Wayne. Straining even further, the ropes digging into her wrists, she managed to securely put her foot on top of it and drag it toward her.
Without a second to spare, she kicked it into her shoe and slid the shoe back on. This was by far the biggest trophy she had taken yet, so it was somewhat painfully digging into the bottom of her foot.
Worth it, she thought to herself.
She looked up to see Wayne holding Megamind by his collar, Megamind looking awfully tired after dodging the dozens of rockets.
“Don’t worry Roxie,” he boomed to her, “evil has been defeated and you are safe now.” He flashed a camera his famous superhero smile and winked.
“Thanks Metro Man, what would I do without you.” Her reporter smile was plastered on her face, but she was inwardly rolling her eyes and grimacing. Wayne had chastised her before for not “playing along” well enough, so now she was forced to act grateful as if he was actually saving her from certain death.
At least she got out of any three Scott parties of her choosing each year now, the deal she made with Wayne in return for her acting.
Wayne flew over to where she was sitting, Megamind swinging lightly in his hand, and untied the ropes holding her down.
He offered her a hand and she gracefully accepted, and she let him pull her up onto his shoulder opposite from the arm holding the supervillain. She was very careful not to step with the foot under which the watch was being smuggled.
“Defeating you was a breeze , and now I shall return you to prison where you belong!” He winked one more time into the camera before taking off through the hole in the window he created upon entering.
“I already used that one, Metro Moron” Megamind muttered under his breath, knowing full well the hero could hear him loud and clear.
Wayne ignored the comment until he was out of range of the cameras, then shot him a glare.
Roxanne was being unusually quiet, as her attention was very focused on keeping both shoes securely on her feet. Megamind and Wayne had a deal that Roxanne could be left unblindfolded and unknocked-out for the cameras if Wayne used his super speed to get them out quickly. It worked out great for both of them, Wayne got his pretty show and the location of Megamind’s Lair remained unknown, but it was not great for Roxanne. Super speed made her dizzy and she had lost many good shoes and hair accessories to it over the years.
“Everything all good, Roxie?” Wayne asked the quiet Roxanne, slowing down out of super speed now that they were a good distance away.
“Oh yeah, just enjoying the flight,” she hummed in response. “That was a great fight today guys, very entertaining.”
Megamind had many choice words he could say to the hero in white, but decided to smile sarcastically up at Roxanne instead. “I’m thrilled my peril is entertaining to you.”
“It very much is! Best part of my week!”
His ears turned bright pink at that comment.
Wayne, oblivious to Megamind, turned to look at Roxanne.
“Want me to put you down in front of the station?” He asked.
“Is that where the news vans are? Can you see?”
Wayne scanned the city below them briefly.
“Ah no, they’re near central park. I’ll put you down there before taking this one to jail,” he lightly shook Megamind.
“Must you? I have a Lair to get back to and clean up after someone vandalized so much in the span of so few minutes,” huffed Megamind in return.
“Sorry little buddy, I have an image to uphold,” he said apologetically. “I’m sure you’ll break out in no time at all though.”
Megamind huffed and rolled his eyes. Metro Man was right though, he smuggled an escape bot in earlier in the week in preparation, so he could get out within minutes of being there if he wanted to.
Wayne touched down on the ground in front of the news cameras, flashing his pearly smile.
Every reporter in the vicinity started shouting questions about today’s plot at him, but he only helped Roxanne down from his shoulder and shot everyone another grin.
“I would love to stay and answer all of your questions, but unfortunately I must return this supervillain back to where he belongs!” Megamind was half heartedly making a show of trying to escape Wayne’s grasp as the hero posed for the cameras. “Please direct all questions to Roxanne Ritchi, stay safe Metro City!” He boomed as he flew away.
“This is Roxanne Ritchi, reporting to you live,” she took over in her reporter voice. She uncomfortably shifted her weight further off of her cramped foot, which was starting to hurt from the pressure of the watch wedged in so tightly.
This was going to be a long broadcast.
Roxanne threw her back against the door to her apartment once she got in and closed it behind her. Without wasting a second she kicked her heels off, thankful to be back on flat ground again.
Earlier in the day she had managed to duck behind a news van after finishing her broadcast, and she quickly removed the watch from her shoe and tucked it into her bra without anyone noticing.
She reached into her bra and removed the shiny piece of alien technology and held it up to get a better look at it. It was silver with a black leather strap, and the face had three white circles that showed the minute, hour, and second.
At first she was concerned that it got crushed in the explosion, but she quickly realized the hour and minute hands were supposed to be in a zigzag pattern and were designed to look like Megamind’s signature lightning bolt. She chuckled to herself. He definitely made this with his own two hands, he couldn’t help but sign everything he made with that emblem.
Looking closer at it, she realized none of the hands were moving. They were all pointing directly upward, almost as if the watch was off. Roxanne began turning the watch over in her hands, looking for a way to turn it on, but gave up after attempting to press all of the buttons and turn all of the knobs.
She figured it did actually get damaged in the explosion, but that was fine with her. She was just excited to have an actual, full piece of technology to add to her collection. The nuts and bolts and scrap metal paled in comparison.
She carefully placed the watch down on her counter, before running upstairs to change into more comfy clothes. She opted for athletic wear, as she begrudgingly figured some more living room dance practice was in order.
That would have to wait for a bit though. She flopped down on her couch and pulled her laptop into her lap, then pulled up her report of the East Side bridge collapse her boss had asked for earlier that day. She was taking a large liberty by getting it to him by the end of the actual day and not by the end of the work day like she knew he had meant, but he was very understanding when it came to her getting kidnapped.
He knew that the kidnappings greatly boosted the station’s ratings, and he knew that she was more than reliable with her work outside of kidnapping days, so if she was ever a little late getting something to him he always looked the other way.
Roxanne read over the report one last time, then emailed it to her boss. She tentatively opened up the Dancing 101 YouTube tab she had bookmarked, but immediately scrunched up her nose and closed her laptop.
Procrastinating ever so slightly more, she flipped to Channel 8 News to see what her coworkers were reporting on now that she was off the clock. One of her favorite coworkers, Mayowa Taylor, was reporting from outside of the prison. By the looks of it Megamind had already escaped into the night.
Roxanne giggled as Maya so seriously reported on the breakout, a fearful edge to her voice, knowing full well her coworker was rolling her eyes behind the perfected reporter tone. Megamind breaking out of prison happened like clockwork, they both knew there was no actual danger.
Maya was a smart woman and an even smarter reporter. She was one of the only people besides her brother that Roxanne confided in about how fun she found the kidnappings.
They had an agreement that whatever Roxanne told her that wasn’t publicly known was just tea, it was off the record and for her ears only. That was more than okay with Mayowa, she loved hearing the gossip and being in on some of the details no one else knew.
A buzz on her phone pulled Roxanne’s attention away from the TV. She figured it was going to be her boss, jokingly chastising her for sending him the article so late, but when she flipped her phone over the name on the screen was definitely not her boss's.
You have something of mine, Miss Ritchi
Roxanne’s heart skipped a beat.
Why did that sound dangerous? He never said anything before about her taking souvenirs, though everything else she took was extremely minor compared to the watch that he wore daily and used to talk to Minion.
Was his tone joking, or was he actually mad she stole it? It was impossible to tell through text.
She decided she should tread lightly with her response, she did steal something important from a supervillain after all, probably not her brightest idea.
I have no idea what you’re talking about
Playing dumb seemed safe, after all how did he know she took it? The Lair is huge, it could've gotten knocked anywhere. Or exploded by a rocket.
Then what is sitting in your kitchen as we speak?
Her heart flipped again as she looked behind her at the watch laying on the counter. How the fuck did he know that, did he secretly install cameras or something?
Did you bug my house Megamind? That’s seriously invasive
Maybe she could get him to admit that he did and then he would also be in the wrong and she would be let off the hook for stealing.
Instead, he responded with a screenshot of a street map with a blip right over her apartment. A second screenshot came through seconds later, zoomed in so that the blip could be clearly seen to be coming from the approximate area of her kitchen.
Oh. He had a tracker on it. Turns out it wasn’t fully dead.
I think that is worth double the evil points, stealing from a supervillain
If I give you double the evil points may I have it back?
No, finders keepers
Miss Ritchi, it really is imperative that I get that watch back
If you want it back so badly you’ll have to come get it then
Roxanne did not want to return the watch, she stole that fair and square. She was confident that telling him to come get it would get him off of her back, after all he had never stepped foot into her apartment once in the six years she knew him.
She waited a few minutes for a cheeky response, and when there wasn’t one she opened her laptop back up to the dancing 101 video.
She got up off of the couch and placed her laptop onto her dining table, pressing play to begin the torture.
Megamind was zipping through the air on his silent hoverbike, breathlessly cursing the stubborn damsel. He was very annoyed at how difficult she could be, but he was also flattered that she stole something of his and wanted to keep it.
He quickly reached her balcony and landed the hoverbike, but he hesitated before dismounting.
Should he knock? Should he even be there in the first place? This was going far past the boundaries he set and stuck to for the past six years. One of his most important boundaries that he had set was forbidding himself from ever stepping foot in her personal space. That was way too intrusive, and he never wanted her to feel like she wasn’t safe in her own home.
In a way she invited him though, right? Even if it wasn’t a true invitation and it was just her being ridiculous and stubborn.
He gingerly got off of his bike, but didn’t advance toward the doors. He looked in to see her- what on earth was she doing? She had her laptop up on the table and she was intently watching the screen, and she was moving in stiff, jerky motions.
Was she, was she trying to foxtrot? That was an absurdly simple move as far as ballroom dancing went, and she was somehow absolutely butchering it. He took a step forward to see if he could see what was playing on the laptop screen, but instantly thought better of it. Creeping on her through her windows when she didn’t know he was there was a million times worse than showing up and knocking.
He decided to cut his losses, she could keep that watch and he would spend the night making a new one. Who needed sleep anyway? Plus, she wasn’t an authorized user so it was basically a dead piece of technology in her possession.
As he turned to get back onto his hoverbike, his foot accidentally knocked the kickstand up. Before he could catch it from falling, it tipped over and hit the ground with a crash.
Roxanne, who was so over that damned YouTube video, whipped around when she heard the crash outside on her balcony. It was dark out and her lights were on, so she couldn’t see anything other than her own reflection.
She figured it was Wayne, the only person who ever randomly showed up unannounced on her balcony, so she ran over and opened one of the large doors.
Saying she was shocked would be an understatement when she looked out to see an absolutely terrified Megamind and not the City’s hero. His back was pressed up against the wall of her balcony, the absolute furthest he could be from where she was standing at the door, and his eyes were flicking back and forth between her and over the ledge as if he was about to leap off with wild hope that there was a swarm of brainbots ready to catch him.
Which he was. He didn’t have the watch to call a swarm but plummeting down to the hard concrete seemed like a better option than being there on that balcony.
They stood there looking at each other for a few painfully slow, heavy seconds, when Roxanne finally replaced the shock on her face with a small smirk. She folded her arms and leaned on the doorway.
“Well, are you coming in?”
This was the absolute last thing Megamind expected to hear, his face flooding with even more silent horror.
Roxanne smirked deeper at his panic, and stepped aside as if ushering him in. She was deeply surprised that he showed up, but she basically invited him to, didn’t she?
She moved deeper into her apartment when the panicked alien made no move to get any closer, leaving the door open behind her.
Megamind slowly regained his composure, then warily took a few small steps inside. He was still staring at her with wide eyes, and he kept the door open behind him as if he wanted to keep an easy escape route available if she made any sudden movements.
Roxanne decided to take this opportunity to try and get him back for his text that morning.
With no warning, she threw the watch in his direction.
“Heads-up!” she teased once it was already midair, sailing toward his head.
Without moving any other part of his body and still staring directly at her, Megamind’s gloved hand snapped up and caught the airborne object in his fist.
Roxanne blinked at that, damn he had quick reflexes.
“Quick with your fingers, huh,” she teased further, trying to get the silent Megamind to not be so silent.
A pink blush spread up to his ears and he finally broke his fixed gaze and glared at her. He lowered the hand that was still in the air holding his watch, then looked down to fasten it back onto his wrist. He huffed when he realized the strap was split and that’s how she had gotten it, and quickly pulled another strap out of his pocket and fastened it into the watch face.
Roxanne was watching him with fascination, his hands really did work quickly. He had gotten the new band on, watch secured around his wrist, and broken strap shoved into his pocket in just a few seconds.
Megamind on the other hand was internally shaking his head at his shoddy work. He would fix it once he got back to the Lair, but he needed it on his wrist as soon as possible so that he could direct a brainbot squad to search around for any rockets that launched but didn’t explode. The last thing he wanted was for one to have gotten out of the Lair and be found by an unsuspecting citizen who would ultimately pay with their life (or with a few limbs if they got lucky).
“I think it’s broken, I promise it wasn’t me though. It was like that when I nabbed it off of the floor today,” Roxanne rambled, uneasy at his lack of words since entering her apartment.
He glanced up at her before pushing a button and holding his wrist up to his mouth.
“Code: send Brainbot Squad II on SAR patrol.” Roxanne looked at him apologetically.
“Code: on it, Sir!” Minion’s voice chirped through the watch. Roxanne looked surprised.
“How did you do that? Those buttons did nothing when I pressed them earlier!”
Megamind’s mouth tugged up into a grin. “That’s because you’re not an authorized user, Miss Ritchi.” She looked surprised at that. “And for good reason too, only the most nosey of all reporters would push random buttons on a piece of supervillain technology.” Her face pricked with a hot blush, she hated that he was right.
“With that taken care of, I better be going,” Megamind said as he turned back towards the door. “By the way, you should try to drop your shoulders next time you’re dancing, and maybe also try a metronome,” he added.
“You were watching me!?” Roxanne’s voice was high with embarrassment.
Megamind whirled around, suddenly very aware of how what he said came off.
“N-no, I just saw you as I landed, I’m sorry I-”
“Like you could do any better,” Roxanne cut him off with a huff, still embarrassed that he saw her but feeling better that he only saw a glimpse.
“I assure you I could, but that is neither here nor there. I really must be leaving-”
“Oh sure you could,” she cut him off again, crossing her arms over her chest and rolling her eyes at him.
He raised an eyebrow at her, acutely aware that she was challenging him at this point.
She saw a glint in his eye, before he pushed another button on his watch and an instrumental string track started playing softly from his wrist.
He stepped into the middle of the room, then held one arm up and out, the other stayed level in front of him, as if he was holding an invisible partner. He began to sweep around the room, stepping backwards then chasing sideways, changing directions on his toes and flushing his cape out with half twirls.
Roxanne was standing at her counter, mesmerized. She recognized some basic moves from her dance classes and YouTube, but they looked so much more advanced than the level she was at.
Minion had said that Megamind could dance, but she never imagined he would look this graceful and beautiful doing it.
She continued to watch, speechless, as he waltzed around the room. He looked as if he was floating, with his careful, fluid steps and ability to change direction on a dime.
The song ended and Roxanne realized she had been staring, open mouthed, the entire time.
“Can you teach me that,” she blurted out without thinking. She snapped her mouth shut and tried to ignore the blush she felt creeping up her neck.
Megamind flashed her an exceptionally evil grin. “Teach a stubborn damsel who is also now a thief? Absolutely not.” With a flourish of his cape Megamind leapt out of the still open door and onto his hoverbike.
Roxanne ran from behind the counter out to her balcony to see Megamind was already up in the air. She braced her hands on the wall and looked up to see his sharp grin aimed down at her, illuminated by the moonlight above and city below.
“Farewell Miss Ritchi, until next time,” he revved his engine.
“Megamind! You can’t just-” she was cut off as he zipped away into the night, leaving her fuming on her balcony.
What the hell was that, how could he go from the most beautiful, graceful creature she’d ever seen to back to an irritating, vexing supervillain in a split second?
With a glare she flipped off the night sky, knowing damn well he was long gone but still feeling bitter. She went back inside and closed the doors behind her, then turned back to the video paused on her laptop.
She was about to angrily shut it and take an angry shower, when she paused and squinted at the screen. She pulled up a virtual metronome on her computer, then reset to follow the instructions she had memorized in her brain but was still unable to execute with her body. She realized she was holding a lot of tension in her neck and shoulders, as Megamind pointed out, so she took a deep breath and let them drop.
With the metronome slowly ticking and less tension in her body, she was able to finally complete the first few steps of the foxtrot without jerking weirdly or tripping. This caused an enraged realization that Megamind was correct to shoot up her face, and she angrily slammed her laptop shut and stormed up her stairs to go to bed.
