“You want to do what?” Obi-Wan asked incredulously.
“Develop secret hand signals.” Anakin said as if it was obvious.
Obi-Wan gave his apprentice a dubious look. Anakin on the other hand gave him a confidante look. Obi-Wan sighed and shook his head. “And why would we need to develop secret hand signals?”
“We are at war master,” Anakin said. “What if we get captured and we need to communicate?”
“There is always the Force.” Obi-Wan pointed out.
“Well what if they give us Force suppressors?” Anakin asked.
“Then we speak.”
“They could be eavesdropping on our conversation!” Anakin said exasperatedly.
“Well then I guess they will find out our plan.”
Anakin glared at Obi-Wan for a moment before speaking again. “Okay, what if we are on a stealth mission or being interrogated and we need to make a quick plan without anyone knowing.”
“Do we have the Force?” Obi-Wan asked dryly.
“Depends what the situation is.” Anakin said. “Please master, this could really help us and plus it will give us something to do.”
Anakin had a point there. They have been stranded and waiting for a rescue for almost five hours and Anakin was going crazy. Obi-Wan hated to admit it, but so was he. Obi-Wan sighed again, he hated when Anakin was right. It’s not like the hand signal thing was even a bad idea, they were at war after all, they needed to be prepared.
“Fine,” Obi-Wan said.
Anakin cheered and immediately set to work on the hand signals.
A few months later…
“What was that,” Ahsoka demanded as she approached Anakin and Obi-Wan who were discussing the latest battle.
Anakin blinked at his apprentice in confusion. “What was what?”
“The thing you and master Obi-Wan were doing when we were captured.” Ahsoka said exasperatedly.
“And what were we doing?” Obi-Wan asked, equally as confused by the padawan as Anakin was.
“You know,” Ahsoka said and waved her hands. “The weird hand gestures you used.”
Then it dawned on Anakin. “Oh you mean mine and Obi-Wan’s secret hand signals.”
“You have secret hand signals,” Ahsoka exclaimed.
“Yeah,” Anakin said. “We started developing it at the beginning of the war to help us communicate better.”
“Why not just use the Force?” Ahsoka asked.
“Exactly what I said when he told me his idea.” Obi-Wan said.
Anakin shot a glare at Obi-Wan. “You weren’t complaining today when we were able to get out of that prison with no problem.”
Obi-Wan shrugged. “I have to admit it was a good idea, but at the time I had my doubts.”
Anakin was about to retort when Ahsoka interrupted him. “So how many of these hand signals do you have?”
“Oh, just simple hand signals for small directions, but we want to advance it and have go to plans in case we are in tight spots.” Anakin told her.
“It has been quite helpful,” Obi-Wan added.
Ahsoka frowned and then asked hesitantly, “Can I help?”
Anakin beamed at her. “Of course snips! We can teach you all our hand signals so we can communicate better and maybe you can help us come up with more quick escape plans.”
Ahsoka grinned at him. “That’s awesome, master. I have a bunch of ideas already. Like one way we could do it is make a hole around us with our sabers if we were on a ship or a building.”
“That’s a great idea snips, but what would the signals be?” Anakin asked.
“Does it have to be limited to hands, because maybe we could have ears or eyebrows or something.” Ahsoka said.
“Good idea. How about we do this for that plan and then this…”
Obi-Wan rolled his eyes amusedly at his two padawans. Their hand signals were definitely going to develop a lot quicker now that Ahsoka was helping them. He wondered how far they would get. It seemed they were going to be here a while so maybe he should get some tea.
