Blossomverse Game Show

So in the Blossomverse, there is something of a formula. A lot of the side stories, spin offs, based ons, etcs, all base things around a certain formula. Chloe cannot communicate her feelings and doesn’t understand what is actually going on in her life, Chloe goes on train, does adventure, everyone back home is upset, someone comes to lab to make them more upset by accident, school drama, Parker gets madder and madder, Goh has a few mental breaks, someone gets the power to reshape reality and goes nuts, Chloe realizes she screwed up a bit, someone decides to write Ash poorly and has to hurriedly fix it because doing that pisses off fans badly, Fog Car, etc etc etc. Usually roughly in that order.

It is worth sometimes trying to find ways to break the formula, and do it in a meaningful way. We should strive for stuff that’s more than different people giving the same people the same, or worse, angry lectures. Also can we stop making massive mistakes with Ash after the Cyan Desert Car for once?

I dabble in these drafts from time to time, and often they aren’t seen due to steam dying out or something. Sadly I am trapped by a few responsibilities and obligations in real life.

But sometimes they do make it through, like Mother of Pearl, How The Rainbow Rocket Arc Should End, and Shield of Vermillion.

Let’s see if you guys see this one.

Blossomverse: Charity Game Show!!!

Chloe had been in some strange cars.

She’d been farted on, she’d been put to sleep for a week, and one car had talking books. One of those books was now her companion who was rather loyal, powerful, and she was pretty sure that he had checked her out at least five times.

She wasn’t exactly unflattered, though it might just be her own problems that she was glad that there was someone else in the car she’d spent a week asleep in, even if said other person, like her talking book admirer Lexi, was also asleep.

This car was also on the weird side of weird to fantastic, though in a different way than too much methane.

“This car seems designed to make Passengers homesick.” King Atticus, he who did not check her out, noted from his seat in the theater room. Next to him Chloe looked at the exit and its door, the bottom of which flickered with the faintest hint of gas on the other side.

“I’m just wondering how the tapes got circulated all the way to another dimension.” Chloe snarked. This car seemed to be like some version of the Satellite of Love from a show that Chloe had tried to get into several times, but honestly she couldn’t quite manage. It might be a case of genre in the end. Still she knew the tropes and what this car did and didn’t do.

It did make them watch home, it did not have them jump between cuts of it. There was gas involved, and when it was all done she could go on to a different car. But until then, she had to look at home and see….something. Who knows what she’d see?

Maybe it would be everyone crying about her being gone. Maybe it would be them all partying about her being gone. Honestly depending on her mood she expected one or the other. Would she get Goh and her father crying in a corner about how terrible they were to make her feel catharsis, or would she see them hosting a wild Alola hula party with Sara and Yeardley to make her feel vindicated? Or a third thing. Nothing could surprise her, she was ready for anything!

“ WELCOME TO CHARITY CHALLENGE! THE POPULAR WORLDWIDE PHENOMENON WHERE PEOPLE COMPETE IN COMMUNITY DRIVEN CHALLENGES FOR GOOD CAUSES FOR 24 HOURS STRAIGHT! WELCOME TO THIS WEEK’S CONTESTANTS ASH KETCHUM AND GOH FUJIHACHI!”

She stood corrected. What?!

The screen was showing a colorful television set filled with bright colors, streamers, and a massive TV monitor that was currently flashing various charities that were known for being respectable. At least they were until two boys her age that she was….not happy with stepped onto the stage. One had a Pikachu on his shoulder, the other a Raboot at his side. One was wearing a hat, the other a bag that was surely filled with more Pokeballs than tokens of her. One was a black hole and the other abandoned her.

Ash and Goh.

The two stood on stage, waving to the crowd as the monitor behind them flashed facts about the two of them for the viewers back home and on the Infinity Train’s Satellite of…something that wasn’t love.

Their ages (16), their hometowns (Pallet Town and Vermillion City), their personal accolades and trivias (where Ash dwarfed Goh by a considerable degree) and other aspects as the crowds cheered and bright colors flashed and loud shrill party noises went off. The host, a bubbly woman in a gaudish white and red something that was possibly some fusion of a dress and a Pokeball cosplay created by someone who was tripping master balls, popped in with a practiced step and dance.

“ TODAY ON CHARITY CHALLENGE, OUR TWO COMPETITORS WILL BE DOING WHAT OUR MANY COMPETITORS STRIVE TO DO AND ACHIEVE TO VARIOUS DEGREES! THE VIEWING PUBLIC SENDS IN CHALLENGES FOR THEM TO COMPLETE ALL AROUND THE WORLD OVER THE NEXT TWENTY-FOUR HOURS AND WITH THE HELP OF OUR MERRY TEAM OF TOP-TIER ABRA,” at that point dozens of Abra floating around the two in a practiced dance of levitation, “ THESE TWO YOUNG MEN WILL BE SENT TO COMPLETE THEM! YOU AT HOME CAN SUBMIT YOUR OWN CHALLENGES IF YOU ARE WILLING TO PAY FOR THEM AND THEY ARE VALIDATED BY OUR TALENTED BEHIND THE SCENES CREW TO FILTER OUT THE ILLEGAL AND UNACCEPTABLE CHALLENGES! ALL MONEY GAINED FROM THESE COMPLETED CHALLENGES GOES TO A WORTHY CHARITY OF THEIR CHOOSING, AND TODAY’S CHARITY’S IS……”

The screens stopped flashing Ash beating other trainers and Goh’s Pokedex number and goals to show a spinning wheel with dozens of her world’s top charities, spinning them round and round until it slowed down and landed on one that was surely programmed ahead of time.

“.... MISSING CHILDREN INTERNATIONAL!”

“Missing children, I do wonder if that means you Chloe?” Atticus wondered aloud.

“Who cares? All this actually becomes is nothing more than a show. No game show is going to do anything for Chloe no matter how much money they generate. This is just them getting attention for it.” Lexi huffed.

“IN PARTNERSHIP WITH CHARITY CHALLENGE, MISSING CHILDREN INTERNATIONAL HAS FOUND 54 MISSING CHILDREN SPECIFICALLY SOUGHT OUT BY OUR CHALLENGERS WITH THE POWER OF SOCIAL AWARENESS AND PUBLICITY, ONE THOUSAND AND SEVENTY-FOUR ADDITIONAL MISSING CHILDREN, AND RAISED HALF A BILLION IN MONEY FOR PROGRAMS FOR THE FURTHER LOCATION OF MISSING CHILDREN, MISSING CHILD PREVENTION, HEALTH CARE AND SUPPORT FOR MISSING CHILDREN, AND COUNTLESS OTHER WORTHY CAUSES!”

“But even if it can’t find Chloe, it is clearly doing something good.” Atticus countered. Chloe wasn’t sure what she wanted to say. She really wanted to snark that those two were doing a butt load of nothing that would actually affect her, but she…she was having trouble doing that with the real possibility that they might save others from situations that were genuinely in a bad place. How did she feel about this?

“ Thanks for having us. ” Ash was given the mic as the monitor behind them was now showing a picture of her and….oh boy. Speaking of boys, the two boys did look at least outwardly worried, though she wasn’t sure she was seeing every emotion she wanted. They could use more regret, even if they did look earnest about their distress. “We’re hoping that we use the power of the internet to find a friend of ours, Chloe Cerise. Um, that’s how this works right, I don’t get social media that much.”

“THAT WOULD EXPLAIN WHY THIS SHOW IS A WEEK LATE. YOU DON’T HAVE ANY ACCOUNTS AND WE HAD TO WORK AROUND THAT AND BUMPED UP LAST WEEK’S CHALLENGE IN THE TIME SLOT! BUT YES, THIS IS THE MISSING PERSON WE’RE LOOKING FOR, CHLOE CERISE!”

The first thing that was said about her on the monitor was, of course, ‘daughter of Professor Cerise’.

“Yeah, me and her had a big fight and we haven’t seen her since. We both said a lot of bad things to each other, and I want to see her again, even if we’d just start arguing the same things again. ” Goh had the mic now, and not a sorry was to be seen. “ I hope this works, everyone misses her and we just want to find her. It won’t make things magically perfect, but knowing she’s safe will make things a lot better.” better, but no ‘I’m sorry’.

“FOR THE CURIOUS BACK HOME, THE FIGHT THAT GOH IS TALKING ABOUT HAPPENED AFTER SCHOOL. IT INVOLVED CHLOE LOSING A POKEMON BATTLE AND SOME CURRY THAT ENDED UP SLAMMED IN GOH’S FACE, SO THINGS ARE GOING TO STILL BE AWKWARD! BUT BETTER AWKWARD THAN ABSENT!”

Hey, don't take his side!

“NOW, FOR THE RULES FOR EVERYONE JUST TUNING IT! ONCE I START THE CLOCK, ASH AND GOH HAVE TWENTY-FOUR HOURS TO COMPLETE CHALLENGES SUBMITTED BY OUR VARIOUS SPONSORS, BOTH LARGE AND SMALL, GROUP AND INDIVIDUAL. UPON THE COMPLETION OF THESE CHALLENGES THE SPECIFIED MONEY WILL BE DONATED TO THEIR CHARITY IN QUESTION! TO GET TO THE SITES OF THESE CHALLENGES, OUR SPECIALLY TRAINED ABRA WILL TELEPORT THEM ALL OVER THE WORLD! OVER 25 MILLION PEOPLE TUNE IN ON AN AVERAGE VIEWING DAY WORLDWIDE, AND WHEN WE HAVE A SPECIAL GUEST STAR OUR NUMBERS CAN GET EVEN HIGHER! The monitor now featured a scrolling list, akin to something at an airport listing various flight travel times, just a lot brighter, individually bigger, and more eye-catching. The categories were, from left to right, ‘Name of Challenger’, ‘Challenge Outline’, ‘Total Donation’ and ‘Participant’.

The participant part was completely blank, while the others were full.

There was room for many more, and she had a very quick observation to make.

“I can tell who's going for which ones.” Chloe stated. It was not hard to see where this was going to go. The question would be if Goh would go for the Huntail or the ghosts first.

“What’s your currency written as? I don’t know if that is a lot of money or not.” Atticus inquired of her.

“I believe this show translates that into Unovan dollars. Kanto uses a currency that doesn’t distinguish between smaller and larger totals.” Chloe was not sure she explained that right, but if this was in Kantonian those totals would add on a few zeroes to be the same as in Unovan dollars.

“ REMEMBER FOLKS BACK HOME, YOU CAN REQUEST ANY CHALLENGE AND ANY AMOUNT OF REWARD! ONCE YOUR CHALLENGE IS VETTED IT CAN BE TAKEN ON BY EITHER ASH OR GOH, AND YOU CAN ADD ANY SPECIFIC YOU WANT ALLOWED ON OUR WEBSITE! WE’LL KEEP EVERYONE UP TO DATE ON HOW MUCH EACH PARTICIPANT HAS EARNED AND WHERE THIS SUPPORT AND SOCIAL MEDIA CONNECTIONS HAVE GOTTEN EVERYONE!”

“I’m going to go to Hoenn first!” Goh decided.

“And I’ll start with the Poketch! I’ve met the owner before, so it would be nice to see him and Landis again.” Of course Ash knew rich people.

“LET THE COMPETITION BEGIN!”

An Abra attached itself to Goh and Ash and teleported them to their individual destinations, which two monitors on either side of the central monitor were now showing the two arriving in their destinations in Hoenn and Sinnoh respectively: Goh immediately running at a nearby stretch of ocean while Ash was greeted by a kid a bit older than Parker and his Luxray.

“We’re going to be stuck here until Ash and Goh run out of time, aren’t we?” Lexi declared in a deadpan tone.

“If it makes you feel better, we can fall asleep. Goh and Ash aren’t allowed to.” Chloe wasn’t happy about it either, but they at least had that. Also food and drink. They did in fact have those science facts addressed.

“Is this one of those programs that blasts a lot of loud noises when the participants achieve a goal? I’ve been in one of those cars before and those noises can and have woken the dead.” Atticus asked in concern as Chloe swallowed. Okay, maybe they wouldn’t get a ton of sleep either unless Goh and Ash failed a lot. And she couldn’t see how Ash ‘double Champion Frontier Brain trophy collecting world saving pride of his hometown etc etc etc’ Ketchum would fail enough to let them get any sleep. Ash was going to keep her awake for an entire day with air horns doing the very things he loved in an attempt to find her with the power of the modern entertainment-social media complex. Urgghhh….

Sure he didn’t know any better, but thanks a lot Ash. Also Goh, if you didn’t flail around too badly.

Goh did not in fact flail around badly, and had in fact been responsible for their popcorn providing Satellite of Home Car prison being filled with the sound usually reserved for a goal in a major professional sport from going off. He was currently on the ghost thing, while Ash had walked off with a Poketch and was doing two challenges at once in Circhester.

While that would have been stupid of Ash letting his five Pokemon get worn out that early doing that, apparently Ash had other Pokemon back home and had thought of that. After Pikachu had taken a bad hit against the plump Ice Gym Leader he’d subbed the electric type out for a Quilava, who was currently battling something called a Mr. Rime. To the adoration of everyone, she was sure.

Meanwhile Goh was lost in the woods with a weird pair of goggles on his face, having caught a Gastly and was currently chasing after a Haunter and Gengar to join the Clamperl, Huntail, and Gorebyss he had caught at Slateport. He could probably have gone back now, but might as well be ‘thorough’. Plus got to chase those dreams of yours…not like she had any or anything…

It wouldn’t exactly help Goh’s ‘lead’, as while he had it Ash was going to go all the way to 2000 Unovan dollars once he was done. Of course they’d both lose, as they couldn’t ‘save’ her on national television, and the relevant social media messages flashing on the sides of the screen weren’t exactly helpful yet.

New challenges were coming in hot, and where in the world would Carmen Sandie Goh go next? They certainly wouldn’t find Chloe Sandiego

“WOWZA WOULD YOU LOOK AT ASH GO!? HE’S TAKEN THE LEAD AGAINST CIRCHESTER’S VERY OWN…WAIT WHAT’S THIS!? ” the announcer suddenly changed the gear from Ash’s glory to Goh, who had stumbled on something in the haunted forest. The attention was all on Goh as he, Raboot, and Sobble were fighting off a swarm of Gastly and Haunter, Goh not even looking to try to catch the hand-using specter for some reason. It was pretty fierce, more akin to something she’d have to do on the Infinity Train against a swarm of utter death than a regulated battle back…wait was that a hand?!

Goh, with some additional help from Scyther, eventually burst out of that ‘ghost nest’ for lack of a better way of putting it, with a six year old boy over his shoulder. A rather pale looking lost boy. The monitor was suddenly bereft of any scores as a giant scrolling list of missing people appeared, spinning through tons of faces before landing on that boy’s.

“ AND WE HAVE A FOUND CHILD! GOH FUJIHACHI HAS FOUND A MISSING SIX-YEAR OLD BOY MISSING FOR THE LAST WEEK! OUR TRAINED ABRA WILL BE RETURNING GOH TO SAFFRON CITY TO GET THE BOY IMMEDIATE MEDICAL TREATMENT, BUT WE HAVE A SUCCESSFUL RESCUED PERSON TODAY FOLKS! GIVE IT UP FOR GOH FUJIHACHI! GIVE IT UP FOR A HERO!”

She saw it herself…and she….did that just….what!?!?!

“Well, you can’t say that nothing good was accomplished.” Atticus mused. Goh and Ash would not find Chloe, but they did find someone who needed help. That made this entire exercise worth it in the end for them and their world.

“I’m sure they think that this washes away their sins. We both know it doesn't.” Lexi countered. She really wanted to agree with Lexi, she had so many good barbs but…Goh just rescued a kid. She could not, in good conscience, act like that wasn’t a good thing. Not without coming off as a massive asshole. She wanted to call Goh one but….dang it Goh! Make it easier for her to be angry at you!

Where were they now?

Oh yeah, Goh was still in the lead, having completed two challenges since he got a thousand crying hugs from the kid’s parents. Ash had closed the point gap considerably, and had gotten to a World Coronation Rank of 805 after his three World Coronation Series wins today and defeating the ferocious Gordie and the aptly named Melony….

“...AND ASH AND EVERETT HAVE SUCCESSFULLY PULLED THE TRAINER OUT OF THE CREVASSE HE’D BEEN TRAPPED IN FOR…WAIT THREE DAYS!? WHAT HEROES! WHILE THE TRAINER HAD NOT BEEN REPORTED AS MISSING YET AND WON’T COUNT AS A FOUND PERSON, THIS ACTION SHOULD STILL BE CELEBRATED AS ONE WOULD FINDING A MISSING PERSON!”

Ash and the punkish Everett had just been teleported to a hospital who knew how to handle someone who was stuck unable to eat or drink for three days, and soon Ash would be picking his next challenge.

And they weren’t even two hours in yet, and Ash had already beaten two gym leaders and Goh had captured ten new Pokemon in Clamperl, Huntail, Gorebyss, Gastly, Maractus, Rookidee, Corvisquire, Pidove, Tranquil, Vullaby, and Rufflet. And they saved two people on international television while looking for her!

She took a nibble of some of the popcorn the car provided.

Also the Popcorn could use more butter with a pinch more salt.

After a bit more Ash, now at 2575 USD, returned with his training and rescue time with Everett complete. He and Pikachu were now looking at the board.

“ Huh…Kahuna Hala or one of the Frontier Brains. I honestly don't know… ” Ash wondered what to do next.

“PERHAPS YOU’D LIKE THE VIEWERS BACK HOME TO DECIDE!?” Suggested the announcer.

“I was actually going to use the Poketch’s Coin Toss app, I think I saw that one installed. So, is Hala heads or tails?” Ash asked Pikachu, who chirped some answer that Ash took to mean ‘Heads’. Heads for Hala, Tails or Tucker?

Ash was going to use his brand new Poketch to coin toss when a different set of loud horns blared than a ‘they scored!’ alarm. The announcer’s face lit up.

“YOU ALL KNOW WHAT THAT MEANS!”

“W e d o ?” She and Ash said in tandem across two different dimensions.

“ THAT MEANS THAT OUR BROADCAST CONTINUES TO SPREAD AWARENESS AND AS A RESULT SOMEONE FOUND A MISSING PERSON! WE’RE NOW GETTING THE UPDATE LIVE FROM VEILSTONE CITY, WHERE THE GYM LEADER…..”

Yada yada social media awareness, yada yada knows Ash and is friends with and respects him, yada yada ‘I thought I had noticed something odd the other day but I now only realized’, yada yada oh yikes she supplexed that guy with her bare hands! Where were her muscles to do that?!

“ Wow, that’s great! And all of this from just posting stuff on the internet? Wow, science is so amazing!” Ash was impressed by the simplest of things. So now that was three people who were rescued, all while those two were trying to ‘rescue’ her.

Maybe by the time this was over she’d know how to feel about it.

“Amazing what some people need to be told to recognize as a problem.” Lexi was less impressed.

“Certain societies are less prone to suspicion than others, and it isn’t like all criminals go around with marks on their faces or logos declaring their evilness.” Atticus pointed out.

The fact that her world did in fact have criminals who did wear their evilness openly did help the case of unawareness, and even when evil was right in someone’s face it could take them a while to see it. Just see…her life frankly.

As part of this big thing Ash had gotten in four World Coronation Series battles to raise his rank, got some super move crystal for Riolu to join his own collection of anime finishing attack crystals, and got a free lunch with a friend.

Meanwhile Goh’s captures grew and grew. Where were they at now? Counting them up…

Clamperl, Huntail, Gorebyss, Gastly, Maractus, Rookidee, Corvisquire, Pidove, Tranquil, Vullaby, Rufflet, Doduo, Rhyhorn, Tangela, Psyduck, Nidorina, Nidorino, Poliwhirl, Seaking, Kangaskhan, Rhydon, Weepinbell, Tauros, Marowak, Nidoking, Nidoqueen, Exeggutor, Chansey, Golduck, Slowbro, Slowpoke, four different sized Pumpkaboos all rejected by the ‘prince of their kind’.... 35 Pokemon!!

Yet again, the part of her that someone would ‘reasonable’, (Bah!) was going ‘the challenges are being provided by others who want to see them do this’ and ‘it seems like some of the stuff are actually from old associates of them wanting to help out’ and other things that made the nature of how this was going ‘okay’.

Of course the people also wanted battles and captures, because the majority loved those things to death. She wasn’t the target audience for this, she was the target. And about as hard to find a target as Mew. But from sheer ‘extra’...well dang if she couldn’t fully bring herself to dismiss this because the people being helped weren’t her. Urg, was this some part of the car? Having to deal with stuff going on at home that was a result of your actions but being unable to do anything about it….

“You know, you could probably call Goh.” Lexi pointed out. Chloe, wondering how she hadn’t thought of that yet, pulled her phone out. She could….she did get texts from home she ignored. She could actually call Goh right now and….

Well, then what would happen? Would she be allowed out by beating the rules of this car, at least what she thought were the rules. Would she cause Goh to stop doing what he thought would help find her that coincidentally also let him and Ash do what they loved to do? Would she potentially put someone in danger because Goh stopped participating?

To try and get out of this popcorn providing prison earlier. To prove to herself and the world, and herself, that Goh was every selfish thing she thought or knew he was. To potentially prevent a person or people from being saved or helped by stopping this early. It was a heavy thing to ponder.

“Chloe….do you want to put the phone down?” Atticus, whose muzzle was glistening with popcorn butter, asked. She shook her head. Thinking about it made her think of other things. Like ‘would she be able to prove that Ash isn’t some noble and all caring double champion hero’ and ‘at some point, would telling Goh that she was not findable be a mercy in case he’d hurt himself’.

Yet there was also a part of her who did want to see Goh fall in a ditch….
