    Summary

“What do you suppose is the difference between a superstition and a belief?”

“Christ. Been marinating on that a while, have you?”

A series of strange occurrences after a storm drag Ed and Stede into a mystery on the island of Chincoteague and force them each to consider the question, "What do I believe?"

Additional Note: When I first wrote this fic and it's prequel, I was working from what I believed to be a fairly innocuous supposition--namely, most pirates were illiterate. Having listened to folks in the fandom, re: what this supposition means for the character of Ed in OFMD (a brown, indigenous man) as well as having read up on the historical figure of Edward Thatch (an upper middle class, and therefore, likely educated, man) I've changed the few references to Stede having taught Ed to read. Obviously, the accompanying podfic will reflect the old text, but I wanted to make sure that I changed the original due to enlightening fandom conversations.
