Can you hear me/us?

Summary:

“Jane Doe” Aka Penny Lamb is sent back to Earth after the Cyclone Roller-Coaster Disaster by Karnak and remembers the other 5 members of the choir. She finds a way to contact them while they are in the afterlife so she’s not lonely anymore and the Choir kids happily agree to be her friends again even if they can't be with her physically…

Notes:

Hello! Welcome to the first fic in the "Be sure to Ride The Cyclone" series, "Can you hear me/us??"!

I started this fic on a whim today (9/21/22) in my college history class and wanted to get SOMETHING out so that's why the first chapter is so short. I will try to make the next chapters longer and more plot. The prologue is just short to establish the beginning of the story.

There will also be a few chapters from the perspective of the dead kids and even some possible romance 👀 (cough Noel/Mischa cough) later!

Thanks for reading!

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Chapter 1: Prologue: After the accident...

Chapter Text

Penny Lamb woke up with a sick feeling under the fluorescent lights of a hospital and in immense pain. She sat up and saw the blue shimmering figures of Ocean, Constance, Mischa, Noel, and Ricky holding each other. Penny tried to call out to the other members of the choir but they faded away and the only sound that came out was a pained strangled sound…

Oh, right. Penny held her hand to her throat feeling stitches around her neck…

“Ms. Lamb?” Penny turned to look at the nurse who entered the room. “I see you’re awake now. Good. You really are miraculous, you know?” Penny nodded. She made a writing motion and tapped her neck. “Oh! Here!” The nurse handed Penny a pad of paper and a pencil and she scribbled out a question.

Where are the others???

The nurse’s face fell. “They… I’m so sorry…” She paused, “You were the only survivor…” Penny wrote another note on her notepad

I figured.

There was an uncomfortable silence in the room until the nurse piped up “The doctors said you will be able to speak soon if you do vocal therapy” Penny looked at the older woman and nodded. She remembered Ricky and how he wanted to speak so badly as she wrote on her pad,

I now know this dream of life is never ending…
