Chapter 1: Information + Maybe I'm back??

Chapter Text

*It says the same on the first page as on the last*

I am actually truly excited for the release of Season 2 of Sweet Home. Oh my god, I still can’t believe it’s only a couple of days left! The idea of experiencing the thrills of this show and its new storyline fills me with so much joy, like it literally cured my seasonal depression (kidding;D). But seriously, I can’t wait.

Also, side note, I’m wondering if they’re going to play some Imagine Dragons again, lol.

Anyway, it feels like it’s so long ago I wrote this fanfic. Re-reading this shit, is making me so embarrassed. Like I feel I’ve grown in my writing, and reading my early fanfics is a weird feeling. I’m thinking about re-writing this whole story. I’m not entirely sure, for like, I feel like I’ve forgotten a lot. But I kinda want to re-write this fic. I don’t know yet… Like, I want to make the sentences and story better, you know.

Or like, maybe I’ll write another fanfic about Sweet Home?

Anyway, if I do decide to write some Sweet Home fanfics again, it won’t be until season two have started.

Bye! Have a good day, btw😊

Chapter 2: Meeting

Chapter Text

Hyunsu stood on the edge of the building.

All day, he had been telling himself he was ready to die …

He thought of his parents, he knew they wouldn’t care if he died. Neither would his sister. They would probably all be happy. Finally, they would be free from the burden of being his family.

He didn't deserve to live.

He looked at the scars on his forearm.

Hyunsu could still taste blood in his mouth. By now it had become a familiar taste.

He thought back to what had happened today. Dohun and his gang had nearly killed him. Again.

Dohun had told him that they were going to play a game. Hide and seek.

When they found him, they had beaten him with sticks.

Hyunsu wishes they would just kill him already. He wanted the torture to stop.

When he had looked in the mirror earlier today, he wanted to puke. His whole body was bruised, and he was bleeding from his nose and mouth.

Every part of his body hurt.

Every part of his body wanted to die.

Hyunsu looked down.

There was a lot of traffic.

Hyunsu closed his eyes. He was ready…

1

2

“It won’t kill you, you know,” a deep voice suddenly said.

It took him by surprise, and Hyunsu flinched.

He hadn't noticed anyone up here.

Hyunsu turned around to see a man, one as beaten up as himself, sitting in the shadows. He was smoking.

“If you are gonna kill yourself, try a higher building, kid,” the man said.

Hyunsu studied the man.

Was he a gangster? He looked like one.

The man was bleeding from his forehead and had a bruised eye. He was clutching is stomach.

Hyunsu gulped. “Do you need help, ajeossi?" he asked and walked away from the edge.

Hyunsu walked cautiously towards the man. From all he knew he could have a gun. But maybe it would be easier to be killed than to commit suicide.

As he got closer, Hyunsu noticed the scars on the man's face. Burn scars.

"Go away, kid," the man said annoyed.

"You look hurt, ajeossi," Hyunsu muttered.

The man gave him a look before muttering: "So do you."

"Need some help? I can bring you some bandages or something... Maybe water?"

"Fuck off, kid," was all the man said.

“Okay,” Hyunsu muttered. He walked over at the door, but then stopped. Hyunsu looked over at the edge.

“Don’t do it,” suddenly the man said.

“Huh?”

The man said nothing more, he just looked at the sunset.

****

Hyunsu was walking down the street, he thought of the man.

He wondered what had happened to him. The man looked quite strong, Hyunsu wondered who had beaten him up.

He walked past a store. He then stopped.

Hyunsu stood still for a moment, thinking. Should he help the man? He looked pretty hurt… But for all he knew, maybe he deserves it... From all he knew, maybe he was dangerous.

Hyunsu quickly walked into the store.

****

The man was still there. It looked like he fell asleep. The bleeding hadn’t stopped.

Ajeossi,” Hyunsu said and leaned forward. He slightly touched his shoulder.

Before Hyunsu knew it, he was thrown to the floor and a knife was to his throat.

Hyunsu shut his eyes.

Don’t cry, don’t cry.

“Kid,” the man grumbled and let him go after a few seconds.

“I thought I told you to fuck off,” the man said. He sounded angry.

“I brought you some things, ajeossi,” Hyunsu said and handed him the plastic bag.

Inside was a water bottle, a sandwich, and bandages.

The man looked at him confused as he looked inside.

Hyunsu just bowed to him, and then walked back home.

Chapter Text

Hyunsu ran as quickly as he could. Ignoring the pain in his foot.

It was raining and he tried his best not to slip.

“What are you gonna do, worthless?” Dohun said and kicked him in the stomach.

They were all laughing at him.

The more he cried and begged the more they beat him.

Hyunsu swiftly looked back, they were still chasing him. He ran down an alley. He had no idea where he was going.

“Leave us!” Dohun suddenly said. His gang left the bathroom.

He leaned close to Hyunsu and grinned evilly, “You and me are gonna have some fun…” Dohun said.

Hyunsu felt his pants being pulled down.

Hyunsu’s eyes widened.

It was like a sudden adrenaline rush took over and Hyunsu immediately kicked Dohun in the face.

Dohun screamed, “You asshole!”

Hyunsu stood up as fast as he could and pulled his pants back on. He ran out of the bathroom. He ran out of the school.

Hyunsu could hear them screaming his name. He knew they were gonna kill him, probably do worse.

Hyunsu had no idea where he was. He was no longer in a good part of town.

“Hyunsu, you little shit! We are gonna catch you!” Dohun laughed.

Hyunsu looked back again–

****

Hyunsu slowly opened his eyes. As his eyes adjusted, he realized he had no idea where he was.

He was in a small room. It looked like a motel room. There was a small kitchen and a table with two chairs. There was also a TV and a small couch. Everything looked shabby.
Hyunsu was laying in the only bed. He noticed a towel under him. His school jacket and shoes were off.
He touched his sweater, it was wet, and so were the rest of his clothes.

Hyunsu realized his head was bandage-up.

Then he heard it. Water running. Someone was in the bathroom. The door was slightly at jar.

Hyunsu leaned vaguely forward, trying to see the mirror and its reflection.
He could see a man. He could see the man’s face. Hyunsu's eyes widened when he saw the man's scars. He recognized those scars.

The gangster from a week ago.

The door opened, and Hyunsu rapidly laid back down. He closed his eyes and pretended to be sleeping.

Hyunsu could hear movement in the room.

Then he heard something that reminded him of a lighter. He was smoking.

“I know you are awake, kid” the gangster said.

Hyunsu opened his eyes and sat up.

He sighed. "Ajeossi,” Hyunsu stammered.
He was staring down at the ground; he was too scared to look up at the gangster.

“How is your head, kid?”  the gangster asked.

Hyunsu shrugged. “What happened, ajeossi?” he asked.

“I was walking down the alley when you bumped into me. You fell and hit your head,” the gangster explained. He barely looked at him.

Hyunsu suddenly felt a cold liquid run down his face, “Huh?”

He touched his head and saw blood on his hand.

"Shit," the gangster said, quickly putting a handkerchief on Hyunsu's bleeding head wound. His grip was firm, but the touch was gentle.

“We need to change your bandage,” the gangster said, mostly to himself.
The gangster removed the old bandage and put on a new one, surprisingly gentle.
The man was silent as he tended to Hyunsu.
Hyunsu watched him closely.
"Stop staring," the gangster suddenly said.
"Sorry, ajeossi," Hyunsu muttered and looked down.
There was a moment of complete silence before Hyunsu asked: “Was- Was anyone else there?”

“You mean the ones who were chasing you?” the gangster asked, unbothered.

Hyunsu started crying, and the gangster flinched.

“I’m sorry,” Hyunsu sobbed, unable to control himself.

The gangster cringed but then sighed. “Hey, hey. It's okay, kid. Just- Just get it out,” the gangster said and put a hand on Hyunsu’s shoulder. Trying to show some kind of comfort.

After a while, Hyunsu stopped crying, and the gangster said: “Look, kid. You're wet, why don't you take a shower and I'll walk you home afterward.”

Hyunsu wiped away his tears. "There is no point, my clothes are still wet," he said and touched his soggy sweater vest.
The gangster sighed annoyed, "You can borrow clothes from me."
Hyunsu slightly smiled but then stopped.
Why was the gangster so nice to him. He didn’t deserve it. Hyunsu didn’t deserve anything good in life.

****

The water was cold, Hyunsu didn't bother to turn on the heat.
The clothes were also too big for him. He felt like a toddler playing dress-up.

When Hyunsu walked out of the bathroom, he discovered he was all alone.

Hyunsu looked around the room and before he knew it, he was sobbing again. Of course, he left, why would he stay.
Hyunsu laid on the bed and closed his eyes. He cried himself to sleep.

****

Hyunsu groaned and pulled the blanket over his head. His whole body ached. He was freezing and warm at the same time. Hyunsu just felt terrible.

What time was it?

Hyunsu poked his head out from the blanket. He tried to look out the window. Everything was pitch black.

“You awake, kid?” Hyunsu could hear a voice say. He was too tired to turn to it.

Hyunsu closed his eyes. He could hear footsteps coming towards him, then he felt a hand on his forehead.

“Shit,” the voiced said.

Suddenly, Hyunsu felt himself being picked up. He opened his eyes to see the gangster’s worried expression.

The gangster quickly caried him to the bathroom and put him in the bathtub.

Hyunsu felt his t-shirt being pulled off. The gangster tried to take off his pants, but Hyunsu flinched away.

His mind brought him back to the bathroom and to what Dohun was trying to do to him.

The gangster sighed and said, “Look, I don’t hurt kids, okay. I’m not gonna take of your boxers, only your pants. You’re burring up and need a cold shower.”

Hyunsu looked at the man with tears in his eyes. His whole body felt terrible.

He nodded.

Before he knew it, Hyunsu felt cold water all over him. It was refreshing.

Afterwards, the gangster helped Hyunsu get up and get dressed. Then the gangster led Hyunsu back to the bed and Hyunsu practically fell into the bed. Before he knew it, he was falling asleep again.

****

Hyunsu woke up one more time. Everything was dark. Hyunsu could feel a cold towel on his forehead.

He turned around and saw the gangster sitting on a chair besides him. He was sleeping.

Hyunsu smiled and closed his eyes, he fell asleep.

****

Hyunsu could hear the sound of water boiling. He opened his eyes and sat up. Hyunsu looked at his phone, he had no missed calls or messages…
It was 9 o’clock in the morning. He felt much better.

He turned around to see the gangster standing in the kitchen, making two bowls of noodles.

After a while, the gangster handed Hyunsu a bowl. "Thank you, ajeossi," Hyunsu muttered.
The gangster didn't say anything. He just sat down beside him and turned on the TV.

They sat in silence and ate.

Chapter Text

Hyunsu stood armed with the broomstick, ready to be attacked.

He could see someone coming down the stairs, it was too dark to see who.

As the stranger stepped out into the lights, Hyunsu finally saw his face.

“It’s you,” Hyunsu muttered, recognizing the gangster from months ago who helped him.

Last time he saw the man, he had accompanied Hyunsu all the way home; although he had kept a distance as they walked.

The gangster studied him. “What the hell are you doing?” he finally said. He had a low voice.

“Sorry…” Hyunsu stammered. He lowered the broomstick a little.

The gangster stepped closer, he had an unreadable expression, “What’s the stick for? Has someone tried to rob you?” he asked.

The gangster's eyes suddenly shifted from looking at Hyunsu to what was behind him.

Hyunsu turned around to see the blood stains.

“There is a lot of blood,” the gangster muttered to himself.

The gangster started examining the hallway, everything was a mess.

The gangster’s stern eyes landed on Hyunsu.

Hyunsu started muttering as fast as he could about the lady and the monster… and–

 ****

Hyunsu’s whole body ached when he woke up. He realized he was in his apartment.

“You need to stop passing out,” a voice suddenly said, “You’re heavy.”

Hyunsu flinched in surprise and looked over at the door. The gangster was standing there, smocking.

“The monster…” Hyunsu muttered in panic.

“Don’t worry kid, the monster is gone,” the gangster said and walked over to him. He stared at Hyunsu before sitting down on the chair, “Go back to sleep, kid,” the gangster finally said.

Hyunsu was still sleepy, and his head hurt. He did as told.
The next time Hyunsu woke up, the gangster was gone.

Chapter 5: Your Name, Ajeossi?

Notes:

I do not own Sweet Home or the characters.

(See the end of the chapter for more notes.)

Chapter Text

Hyunsu sat against the wall, holding a tissue to his nose. The bleeding had stopped, but Hyunsu was scared that it would start again.

A minute ago, he had been searching online, trying to find out what had happened to the world. And trying to find out what was happening to him.

Suddenly the doorknob started shaking. Someone was trying to get in. There was a loud knock.

Was it the monster?

The knocking continued and Hyunsu crept over to the door.

He had his face against the door.

“Who-who is it?” Hyunsu whispered.

There was another knock. Hyunsu couldn’t explain it, but it sounded human.

Hyunsu unlocked the door and carefully opened it.

There he stood. The gangster.

The gangster pushed Hyunsu aside and entered the apartment. Hyunsu looked at him in surprise, then locked the door.

“D-Did you see some noodles on the ground when you were out?” Hyunsu asked him cautiously.

The gangster’s facial expression didn’t change before throwing Hyunsu some noodle bags. Hyunsu excitedly accepted them.

Hyunsu walked over to the kitchen and started preparing two bowls of noodles. He was so hungry. He didn't know if the gangster was hungry, but he didn't want to show him disrespect by only cooking for himself. After all, the gangster had once cooked for him.

Hyunsu could hear the sound of a lighter. He figured the gangster was smoking again.

After a while, the noodles were done and Hyunsu handed the gangster a bowl. The gangster accepted it.

Both sat against the wall and started eating in silence. Hyunsu wondered if he should start and conversation or not. But by now Hyunsu had figured out that the gangster was a man of few words.

The gangster.

What was his name?

Hyunsu hadn’t realized before now that he didn’t know the man’s name.

“Uhm, ajeossi… Can I ask what your name is?”

The man didn’t say anything, he just ate in silence. Then he suddenly put down his bowl and sighed.

“Sangwook. Pyeon Sangwook,” the man said after a moment of silence.

Hyunsu smiled, “I’m Cha Hyunsu, ajeossi.

“You can stop calling me that,” Sangwook grumbled.

“What?”

Ajeossi. Stop calling me that.”

“Oh, sorry…” Hyunsu muttered.

“Don’t apologize,” Sangwook told him stern.

“Sorry…” Hyunsu muttered again.

Both sat in silence. Hyunsu could see in his side eye that Sangwook had closed his eyes.

He was still awake though.

“Um, Sangwook,” it felt weird saying his name, Hyunsu thought, “May I ask where you went earlier?”

The man sighed, “I tried to get to my apartment-”

There suddenly was a loud scream.

“The monster is back,” Sangwook said and stood up.

Chapter Text

“The monster is back,” Sangwook said and stood up.

The door started shaking and there was a non-stop knocking sound. Like someone was bagging their head.

Sangwook pushed Hyunsu slightly behind him and picked up the broomstick.

Sangwook looked at him with a finger on his mouth, instructing Hyunsu to stay silent.

After a while the sound was gone, and everything became quiet.

None of them moved until they were sure the monster was gone.

Hyunsu sighed in relief–

There was another sound.

But instead of it coming from the hallways it came from outside.

Sangwook didn't move, but Hyunsu walked over to the window and looked out.

He could see a man trying to climb down, and his children begging him not to go.

Hyunsu watched the family for a moment, but then his eyes widened as he saw a giant eyeball monster coming towards them.

“Get out of there!” Hyunsu screamed.

He watched as the monster attacked the man. The man started struggling to stay up and tried his best to fight off the monster...

Hyunsu closed his eyes and flinched away as the man fell. Sangwook hurried to his side and looked out the window.

There was a terrible sound. And Hyunsu knew the man had fallen to his death.

Sangwook closed the window rapidly after seeing the monster; Hyunsu fell to the side and started hugging his knees.

Both of them looked at each other as they heard the children’s scream.

They were gonna die, unless–

Fast, Hyunsu picked up his keyboard and opened the window, throwing it at the monster.

Hyunsu quickly closed the window again and hid to the side. In just seconds the monster appeared outside it.

Sangwook picked up the broomstick and walked toward the monster.

Before both knew it, the monster jumped towards Sangwook, destroying the wall.

Quickly, Sangwook stabbed the monster and started fighting it.

Hyunsu watched from the distance–

But then suddenly the monster spun around and caught Hyunsu and started smothering him.

Hyunsu struggled in his grip, and everything started to go black before he was abruptly dropped to the floor.

Hyunsu started rapidly breathing, he watched as the monster became grey and slowly died.

Sangwook helped him up from the floor and held him steady.

“You okay, kid?” he asked.

Hyunsu nodded as he took a deep breath.

They both walked toward the window and looked out.

There was a man, a few windows away from them. sitting with a homemade gun.

He looked at them as he drank from a bottle.

Hyunsu stared at the strange man confused, he was about to say something before the man ordered them to stay quiet.

He disappeared for a moment before coming back with a sign.

They might come back if they hear anything, it read.

Those things don’t die.

The man nodded towards the ground.

Hyunsu held back a gasp as he watched the dead man become a monster.

Appa!” Hyunsu could hear the children scream. He looked down at them.

The man had a new sign:

Do you want to save the kids?

Chapter Text

They had a plan as they stepped out of the apartment armed with home-made weapons.

Hyunsu was the one carrying the phone in case the monsters returned. He called a number, and if a monster came back, he would hear it.

Sangwook walked in front, while Hyunsu was behind him. They walked for a minute before they reached the man's room.

As they entered, they saw the man sitting with his desk.

“I’m Han Dusik,” the man introduced himself, “And you are?”

“Pyeon Sangwook,” Sangwook said after a moment of silence.

Hyunsu hid behind Sangwook, standing in the shadows.

Dusik leaned to the side and looked at Hyunsu. “And what’s your son’s name?” Dusik asked.

Sangwook scoffed and moved to the side, revealing Hyunsu.

Neither of them said anything about the son-comment.

“I’m Cha Hyunsu…” Hyunsu stuttered.

“Slow speakers…” Dusik remarked.

“How- How can we save the kids?” Hyunsu asked Dusik. He stared at him in a serious manner.

Sangwook was standing to the side, it didn’t look like he was paying attention to the conversation.

“What do you mean by how?” Dusik asked, “You’ll have to go.”

Sangwook looked over the man with an expressionless face.

“Should I go?” Dusik asked and pointed at his wheelchair. Hyunsu hadn't noticed the man's disability until now.

“Oh…” Hyunsu said.

****

Sangwook and Hyunsu sneaked through the halls with weapons in hand. Both were prepared if a monster attacked.

Dusik had given them both great weapons to defend themselves with.

It didn’t take long until they reached the stairs. But they were locked. Hyunsu tried to open them, but to no avail.

Hyunsu was shaking the doors, when suddenly Sangwook dragged him to the elevator and hid. Sangwook held him in a tight grip; one of his hands were over Hyunsu's mouth.

Hyunsu held is breath as he watched a monster walk by them.

The monster had enormous ears but no eyes.

The both stayed dead quiet until the monster was gone.

Sangwook waited a moment before letting Hyunsu go.

Suddenly the monster stuck its head in. Hyunsu flinched away.

Rapidly Sangwook took the staff and stabbed the monster.

They looked at each other before they started running.

Hyunsu looked back to see the monster's hand, he ducked, barely escaping the monster's grasp. He fell to the floor.

Sangwook helped him up and they both hid along the corner.

They watched the monster from a distance.

Hyunsu threw a ball at the blind monster. Making the monster react in confusion before Hyunsu stabbed it and gave it electrical shock. The monster fell.

“Good work, kid,” Sangwook smirked, and Hyunsu smiled.

They continued walking and finally reached the kid’s door.

Hyunsu knocked at the door. “Kids. I’m here to help you,” he said.

Chapter Text

“Sir,” the little boy said, “Please save our dad.”

“What?” Hyunsu asked.

Appa fell down,” the little boy continued.

Hyunsu looked down, “I know.”

The little girl said: “Maybe he–”

But was interrupted by Sangwook: “Nobody can survive a fall from the 12th floor.”

The little kids started silently crying; the sister hugged her brother.

Hyunsu looked over at Sangwook. Sangwook didn’t react.

“There’s a man on the 14th floor with a lot of food,” Hyunsu said to the kids, “You’re hungry, aren’t you?”

The kids nodded.

Then Sangwook spoke: “I doubt you want to stay here by yourselves.”

The kids nodded.

“We need to go into the hall where monsters are running wild,” Sangwook continued. Are you ready, for that?”

The kids nodded again.

“How old are you guys?” Hyunsu asked.

“I’m nine years old and my brother is six,” the girl said.

Hyunsu nodded and said with a smile, “Those are perfect ages to fight monsters.” Trying to cheer up the children.

The children still looked scared, so Hyunsu said, “Don’t worry. We will protect you.”

****

They had walked for a few minutes when Sangwook suddenly stopped, “Hyunsu.”

Hyunsu stopped walking, “What?”

Sangwook sighed, “We are not far from Dusik. You just have to go up one floor.”

“What?”  Hyunsu asked baffled.

Sangwook placed both hands on Hyunsu’s shoulders.

“Listen, kid. You can do this on your own, I believe that. There is something I must deal with, so I have to leave you for now.”

“What? No, I can’t–”

“Yes, you can. Protect the kids,” Sangwook said.

They stared at each other for a long moment before Hyunsu nodded, “Promise me you will be back.”

Sangwook looked down, and for the first time Hyunsu saw him unsure.

“I will try,” Sangwook said in the end.

****

Hyunsu opened a door to a hallway and let the children walk past him.
Suddenly Hyunsu was pushed to the side. He looked forward, there was nobody there.

His nose started streaming blood.

He looked at his scars and he could feel something moving under them.

Hyunsu closed his eyes, and he was transported back to his classroom.

He felt the kicks. He could hear their voices.

Every part of his body started hurting.

He watched as his life flashed before his eyes.

Hyunsu fell to the floor.

“Sir!” he could hear the children scream.

Chapter 9: I’m a Monster

Notes:

I do not own Sweet Home or the characters.
Decided to do a timeskip because that's much easier. Hopes that's okay:)
Sorry, for those who wanted it more realistic to the show. It's a little hard to write Hyunsu when he's going through his "demon phase"

(See the end of the chapter for more notes.)

Chapter Text

– Timeskip to when Hyunsu fell down the stairs. After he has saved the kids and met Jisu and Jaeheon. Basically, timeskip to mid episode 4 –

“You really fell,” was the first thing Hyunsu heard when he woke up.

He sat up abruptly.

“When I told you not to die here, I meant the whole building,” the girl said. She was standing besides Hyunsu.

Had she been watching him sleeping?

Hyunsu looked confused around the room. “Where am I?” he asked.

“It’s a place where everyone gathered, waiting to die,” the girl said nonchalantly.

Hyunsu looked at the girl and asked: “What about the other two?”

“They’re safe.”

Hyunsu sighed in relief.

“I guess you aren’t as shitty as I thought. You should worry about yourself, not them.”
“Pardon?” Hyunsu said confused.

“You fell from the 9th floor and nearly died, you should worry about that, not them,” she said.

Hyunsu didn’t say anything for a moment, but then he looked up at her and asked, “Have you seen a man with burn scars? Is he here?”

“You mean the gangster guy? No, he isn’t here,” she told him.

“Oh,” Hyunsu looked down.

“Why–”

“Eunyu,” a guy with glasses walked in.

So that was her name. Eunyu.

She left the room, but not before bumping into the guy on purpose.

The guy looked at Hyunsu. “You’re fine,” he said.
It wasn’t a question, but a statement.

Hyunsu looked at him.

The guy continued saying: “You fell from the 9th floor and woke up in 3 hours. Maybe the golden hour saved you.”

Hyunsu looked down.

“Isn’t ironic. The golden hour used to mean the last hour to save someone. Now it means the only possible period of time to destroy someone.”

Hyunsu didn’t dare to look at him. What was he saying?

“How do you feel?” he asked.

Hyunsu touched his head. He looked at his hand. Blood.

“I think. I’m okay,” he said.

“Good,” the guys said, “It’s going to be tough from here on out.”

Hyunsu was still staring at his hand.

****

They walked out of the room.

Many were staring at them. At him.

“You’re out of your mind. You brought a frigging monster in here,” a man said to the guy with glasses.

Hyunsu tried to ignore the comment.

That was what he was now. A monster.

The man pointed a knife towards Hyunsu and said: “Don’t you dare turn. Got it you fucking monster.”
Hyunsu didn’t react.

“Answer when an adult speaks to you,” the man said angry.

“Got it.”

****

After the voting they had decided, he was allowed to stay. Hyunsu wasn't sure if he should be relieved or not. As he only was allowed to stay under a few conditions.

One. He has to stay locked in a room until he is needed.

It was quite boring. The only thing he had to entertain himself was his mind.

And at the moment Hyunsu hated his mind.

The man from earlier – whose name Hyunsu had learned was Mr. Hyun – was lying on the couch, sleeping. The shook of becoming a monster was gone.

He had been freaking out earlier.

Hyunsu decided to take a nap.

 ****

The door suddenly opened.

Hyunsu was barely awake, and about to fall asleep.

He watched with tired eyes as a man entered. He looked beaten up; he was bleeding from his nose.

Hyunsu could hear a lot of voices. Then they were gone.

He closed his eyes and fell asleep.

When Hyunsu woke up again, he could feel someone stroking his thighs.

When Hyunsu woke up again, he could feel someone stroking his thighs.

Hyunsu flinched away and sat up abruptly.

In front of him stood the beaten-up man.

“Hey, kiddo. Did you sleep well?” the man asked with a smile.

Hyunsu leaned back, away from him.

“My name is Choi Yoonjae…” he grinned.

Hyunsu hugged his knees.

Yoonjae crept closer to him.

“You can call me oppa if you want,” he said and started playing with Hyunsu’s hair.

Slowly, Yoonjae's hand started going down his back, and reached Hyunsu’s ass.

Hyunsu froze. He deserves this. He deserves much worse.

Kill him. Rip his heart out, you know you can.

Hyunsu flinched. The voices were back. He was back.

He fell backwards and landed on the floor.

“Shhh, you don’t want to wake anyone up,” Yoonjae said joyful, stroking on Hyunsu’s back.

JUST FUCKING KILL HIM!!

“No!” Hyunsu sobbed silently.

“Shut up, kid,” Yoonjae said.

Mr. Hyun made a sound, before falling back asleep again.

KILL EVERYBODY!!

Hyunsu started hugging his knees as he felt tears falling from his eyes.

He felt the man groping him, Hyunsu cried in silence.

Suddenly Hyunsu could hear a loud a bang.

“You fucking punk!” he heard Sangwook’s voice, “Don’t you dare touch him!”

Yoonjae was thrown off him and Sangwook started beating the shit out of him.

Hyunsu didn’t change position. He could feel drops of blood falling on him.

Hyunsu could hear Yoonjae being dragged out of the room by Sangwook. There were a lot of screaming.

Hyunsu closed his eyes. Sleep. Sleep. Sleep. And the nightmare will be over.

After a while, Hyunsu could feel himself being picked up by strong arms.

He wasn't sure how long it had been before he was laid down on a bed and a blanket was placed over him.

Hyunsu opened his eyes.

Sangwook sat on the end of the bed and lit a cigarette. He stared at nothing and began to smoke.

Hyunsu gazed at the roof as silent tears began falling from my eyes.

He felt numb as his minds tried to grasp what had happened.

“I’m sorry,” Sangwook suddenly said.

“What?” Hyunsu whimpered.

“I didn't know they had placed him with you… I should had come sooner… I shouldn't have left you at all,” Sangwook said.

He looked upset? Why?

Hyunsu deserved it, it was his fault. He should have fought him on his own.

“It was my fault…” Hyunsu muttered.

“What?” Sangwook said angry.

Hyunsu slightly flinched at his tone.

Sangwook sighed. He put out his cigarette.

“Listen, kid. It wasn’t your fault. You did nothing wrong. If I ever hear you say that crap again, I'll whoop your ass, got it?”

Hyunsu nodded.

After a while Hyunsu asked: “Did you kill him?”

“Yes. I would have killed him either way, just so you know.”

Hyunsu sat up and hugged Sangwook, “Thank you for saving me.”

Hyunsu could feel Sangwook's arm hugging him back tightly.

After a while, Sangwook broke the hug, and Hyunsu asked: “Where are we?”

“Second floor. Who knows whose room this is,” Sangwook told him.

Hyunsu looked around the room, it looked like a woman’s apartment.

“They are gonna treat you like a pet, you know,” Sangwook said after a moment of silence.

“I know…” Hyunsu mumbled.

“They want you to get the old man, Dusik.”

“I know…”

****

“Hey” Eunyu said through the door.

Hyunsu was back in the prison. Whatever you wanted to call this room.

“What happened yesterday?” she asked.

“What?” Hyunsu asked, he was tired from retrieving Dusik and the kids.

“When the gangster guy carried you away. What happened?”

Hyunsu shrugged.

“You looked like a baby needing his daddy,” she mocked.
Hyunsu hummed.

Chapter Text

Hyunsu hadn't thought much of it at first when it happened.

“And what’s your son’s name?”

It didn’t mean anything. It was just a small comment.

4 times the kids thought Sangwook was Hyunsu's Appa

  1.

“Hyunsu,” Yeongsu said, tugging on Hyunsu’s arm.

“What?” Hyunsu said and kneeled to his level.

“You wanna play with me?” he asked with puppy-eyes.

“I don’t know–”

“Please! Just one round of hide and seek,” he whined.

Hyunsu smiled. He was glad that this cruel world hadn’t destroyed Yeongsu's childish mind.

“Fine,” Hyunsu gave in, “One round.”

Yeongsu grinned.

They had decided that Hyunsu would be the seeker and Yeongsu the hider.

Hyunsu had been looking for 10 minutes and still couldn’t find him.

Where is he?!

Hyunsu had looked everywhere.

He couldn’t have left the 1st floor… Could he?

Hyunsu was running around the corridors when he suddenly bumped into someone.

He fell to the floor.

Hyunsu looked up to see Sangwook, who held out his hand to him. In his other hand, he held a cigarette.

“What are you doing?” Sangwook scoffed.

“Playing hide and seek… Have you seen Yeongsu?” Hyunsu asked.

Sangwook smirked with the cigarette between his fingers and nodded towards the vent.

Hyunsu looked at him confused before walking over to the vent and removing the lid.

There, Yeongsu sat. He was frowning.

“That’s not fair. You can’t ask your Appa for help,” Yeongsu whined.

“What?” Hyunsu said puzzled. His appa?

Hyunsu turned around to look at Sangwook, but he was long gone.

  1.

Hyunsu wandered the halls. Alone.

He couldn’t sleep.

His mind was too clouded to relax.

All he could think about was Dohun.

The memories of bullying wouldn’t leave his mind.

Suddenly he heard a whimper.

He followed the sound. It led him to the graves.

There, Suyeong sat sobbing.

It took Hyunsu by surprise, he hadn’t seen her cry since the first time he met her.

Hyunsu sat down beside her and put his arm around her.

He let her sob into his shoulder.

“Why are you sad?” Hyunsu asked after a while.

Stupid question. In this world, everything makes you sad.

Suyeong was still crying, but no longer sobbing.

“I miss my appa,” she cried.

“Oh…”

Hyunsu wished he could relate to her, but he didn't. He did not miss his father.

Hyunsu still remembers the time he wanted to go to the police and report the bullying. In response, his father had caned him. Forcing him to stand against the wall while his father hit him repeatedly.

He still shivers at the memory.

“You loved him a lot, didn’t you?” Hyunsu asked her.

She nodded.

“You’re lucky,” she whispered.

“What?” Hyunsu asked.

“You still have your appa,” she said.

“My what?”

Hyunsu was really confused now. His appa?

  1.

Hyunsu was late. Really late. He knew that.

He wondered if they thought he was dead. He wondered if they cared.

When he finally reached the door, he sighed in relief.

He entered the first floor.

The first thing that meet him was Sangwook.

He looked angry. But didn't say anything.

He was smoking. He took a deep breath through his nose as he stared at Hyunsu.

"What took you so long?" he asked sternly.

“Ms. Son wanted a dress from her room. A monster was on the floor, so I had to wait until it was gone to get to her apartment. I didn't want to take the risk and fight it,” Hyunsu explained.

Sangwook looked at him in a serious manner and said: “Look, kid. Next time, let it go and come right back. If it takes too long, forget it. Got it?”

Hyunsu nodded quickly.

Sangwook and Hyunsu walked down the stairs together. Sangwook disappeared around the corner, leaving Hyunsu.

Suddenly the kids come running towards him. Yeongsu hugged him.

“Hyunsu, you took so long!” Suyeong whined.

“Sorry,” he apologized.

“Was your appa mad?” Yeongsu asked.

“What?”

“He looked really mad when he talked Mr. Eunhyuk,”  Suyeong explained.

“Who?” Hyunsu asked.

“Your appa.”

“And who is my appa?” Hyunsu asked. What were they talking about?

“Mr. Sangwook,” Yeongsu said.

“What?”

  1.

Sangwook and Hyunsu ate in silence together.

The people were still wary of them. Meaning they were often left alone.

Neither of them said anything. That was normal from them.

Both enjoyed the silence between them.

But it was broken when Yeongsu came running towards Hyunsu.

“Hyunsu! Let’s play,” he begged. He was holding his dinosaur and an action figure.

Hyunsu had retrieved the action figure about a week ago. Yeongsu was very happy for it.

Hyunsu could swear he saw Sangwook smile a little. But his face quickly turned stoic.

“Maybe afterwards, I’m eating right now,” Hyunsu told him.

“Please! Suyeong don’t wanna play with me, and I’m bored,” Yeongsu whined.

“Afterwards, okay?”

Yeongsu sighed. He looked over at Sangwook, who was watching the exchange.

“Mr. Sangwook can you please tell Hyunsu to play with me,” Yeongsu asked with the biggest  puppy-eyes Hyunsu have ever seen.

As Sangwook silently ate, he looked at Hyunsu and nodded towards Yeongsu.

Telling him without words to play with Yeongsu.

“Yay. Now you have to play with me. You have to listen to your appa!”

Sangwook coughed loudly. It appeared that he choked on the food.

Hyunsu blushed in embarrassment.

He stood up and quickly took Yeongsu’s hand, “Come on, let’s go.”

They walked away from Sangwook, who had a unreadable facial expression.

Bonus

Hyunsu sat against the wall. It was over midnight, but he couldn’t sleep.

He closed his eyes.

Then he heard movement. Someone sat down besides him.

He opened his eyes and saw Sangwook.

He was smoking as usual.

“Can I have one?” Hyunsu asked, pointing at the cigarette. He had never smoked before, but at the moment he really wanted to try.

Sangwook gave him a look before saying, “When you’re 19, you can. “

Hyunsu frowned.

Both remained silent. Hyunsu thought about bringing up the incident from earlier today. About Yeongsu thinking he was Hyunsu’s dad.

“I didn't tell them you were my father … Just so you know,” Hyunsu stammered.

“I know,” Sangwook said, smoke coming out of his mouth.

“People here think you’re my son,” Sangwook said, nonchalantly, after a while.

“What?” Hyunsu said confused, “And you didn’t deny it?”

“Why would I care what people think,” Sangwook told him without looking at him.

“Oh…”

Chapter Text

Hyunsu was looking through the cabinet for a first aid kit. His bleeding wrist dripped onto the floor.

He snuck around the hospital room, making sure to make no sound.

Where are the bandages?!

He didn't mean to start again… But the blade was like a magnet to his skin.

He didn’t mean for it to get this bad. It was supposed to be a one-time-thing.

But before he knew it, deep wounds were carved into every inch of his arm.

Why aren’t his cut healing?!

His cuts were supposed to be healing. But for whatever reason, they weren't.

“Hyunsu…” he heard a woman’s voice behind him.

He turned around and saw Yuri. Her eyes landed on his arm.
She hurried to get the items she needed and began cleaning Hyunsu's wounds.

They sat in silence; tears fell from Hyunsu's eyes.

“You wanna talk about it?” Yuri asked, staring at him.

He shook his head.

“You know that you can’t–”

“I know… Is just– It’s so hard,” he began sobbing.

Yuri hugged Hyunsu and let him cry into her shoulder.

They stayed like that for a minute or two before Hyunsu broke the hug.

“Promise me you won’t tell anyone,” Hyunsu begged.

‘Promise me you won’t tell Sangwook’ was what he really meant.

Yuri bit her lip, “As long as you promise this is the last time, I'll find you like this.”

Hyunsu looked down… He can’t promise that.

“I promise,” he finally said. Lying.

****

Hyunsu was back in the hospital room a week later.

He had really done it this time; he had cut too deep. Blood was pouring from his arm, not stopping.

It was late and everyone should be sleeping right now.

Hopefully Yuri won't discover him this time…

He quickly opened the door, and to his surprise, not only Yuri, but Sangwook was there too.

Sangwook glared at him and Hyunsu hid his arm.

“Hyunsu,” Yuri said, fixing her hair.

“I–” Hyunsu stammered.

Then he heard it… The dripping sound…

Hyunsu looked at his arm – so did Sangwook and Yuri – his arm was pouring blood.

Both adults rushed to his side and helped him to the couch.

Hyunsu started sobbing, “I’m sorry! I’m so sorry. I know I promised. I’m sorry.”

He was bawling his eye out. Crying and crying.

“I told you to stop apologizing, kid,” Sangwook said. He held Hyunsu’s hand while Yuri cleaned it.

When Hyunsu’s wound was all bandage up, Sangwook gave Yuri a look, asking her to please leave.

Hyunsu was glaring at the ground, to scared to look at Sangwook.

Sangwook lit a cigarette and stood up, he looked at Hyunsu and asked: “Why? Why would do something like that?”

Hyunsu didn’t want to answer, but he knew he had to.

“Be-Because I deserve it,” Hyunsu cried.

“What?” Sangwook sounded angry. Which made Hyunsu scared.

“I deserve it! I deserve everything bad that has happened to me.”

Worthless bastard!

Dirty Faggot!

Idiot!

Fat pig!

Dohun's words rang through his ears.

“Who told you that crap?” Sangwook questioned. He almost sounded protective, Hyunsu thought.

“It doesn’t matter. Is true,” Hyunsu said, wiping away a tear.

Neither of them said anything,

“No, is not, you idiot…,” Sangwook said after a moment of silence. “Listen, kid. I'm only going to say this once... You are one of the kindest souls I've ever met, and you deserve nothing bad in this cruel world. Whoever told you that crap is a worthless punk,” Sangwook looked him in the eyes.

“You really mean that?” Hyunsu asked sceptical.

Sangwook nodded.

“I noticed them a while back” Sangwook suddenly said, “But I had hoped you had stopped.”

“I had… Is just- Everything suddenly became so hard again, and-” Hyunsu cried.

Sangwook sat down beside him and put an arm around Hyunsu.

Hyunsu cried into his shoulder, slightly hugging him.

“Promise me… Next time you feel the urge to cut yourself, you come straight to me,” Sangwook said.

“Promise.”

“Good. Cause next time I find out you've hurt yourself; I'll take you over my knee and whoop your ass, got it?” Sangwook threatened, hugging him back.

“Got it.”

Notes:

I know Sangwook is really out of character, but I don't care. Hyunsu needed a peptalk.

Chapter Text

Hyunsu excitedly walked towards the hospital room.

After Yuri had tended to Hyunsu's wounds two weeks ago, they had become quite good friends. Hyunsu had started spending his time in the hospital room whenever the world got a bit too much to handle.

Hyunsu had just come back from a scavenger trip; he had found an asthma inhaler and some chocolate.

He knocked on the door, “Yuri.”

“Yes,” he heard before opening the door.

Inside, he saw Yuri organizing the cabinets.

“I got something for you,” he said cheerful and gave her the inhaler.

She happily accepted it, “Thank you, Hyunsu.”

They sat down on the couch and began eating chocolate.

“You know… You can ask Eunyu if she wants some,” Yuri smiled, teasing Hyunsu.

Hyunsu blushed, “Stop it.”

Yuri laughed.

“She's not the one I like anyway...” Hyunsu whispered.

“What?” Yuri said.

"She's not the one I like," Hyunsu repeated.

Yuri looked enthusiastic and said: “Oh, my... You like someone! You gotta tell me who.”

Hyunsu shook his head.

“Please, is it Jisu?”

Hyunsu shook his head again.

“Jieun?”

“No.”

“Then who? It isn't Yikyeong, is it?” she asked.

Hyunsu bit his lip and looked up at her slowly. “It's not a girl I like...” He spoke.

Yuri's eyes widened.

“I like Eunhyuk...” Hyunsu said looking down at the floor.

He had never told anyone he liked in boys before. He was always so scared that it would just be another reason to get bullied. Not forget how homophobic his dad was. His dad used to often talk about how those homos were ruining the world.

Hyunsu had never trusted anyone with this secret, well, until now...

Now, he just hoped that Yuri wouldn't be disgusted by him.

“Oh my...” she gasped, “That explains it.”

She didn't sound angry, but instead sounded happy and excited.

“Explains what?” Hyunsu asked, confused.

“Why Sangwook hates Eunhyuk,” she said.

“Sangwook hates Eunhyuk?” Hyunsu asked surprised.

Why would Sangwook hate Eunhyuk?

“Well hate is a strong word, maybe 'strongly dislike' is better word,” she said.

“Why doesn’t Sangwook like him?”

“Well, at first, I thought it was just their personalities clashing. But now I realize Sangwook is just being an overprotective dad,” she said laughing.

“What?” Hyunsu stammering.

“Oh, don't worry. I'm just joking with you,” she giggled.

Hyunsu frowned.

Suddenly, an idea came to Hyunsu's mind.

“So, what is going on between you and Sangwook?”

Yuri coughed, choking on the chocolate. “What?”

Hyunsu laughed, and Yuri blushed.

“We are just friends, nothing more,” Yuri explained calmy.

“Sure…” Hyunsu teased, “Don't you notice the way he glares at people whenever they try to talk to you?”

“Don't you notice the way he glares at Eunhyuk whenever he tries to talk to you??” Yuri questioned.

“Yeah, I have,” Hyunsu laughed, “It always looks like he's shooting daggers from his eyes.”

“That’s so true! You know, I heard him growl once,” she laughed.

“No way!” Hyunsu giggled.

They both started laughing their ass off.

But after a while their laughter died down.

“He’s a good guy,” Yuri said.

“Yeah, he is. We’re lucky to have him.”

Chapter Text

Hyunsu laid on his stomach on the bed. Crying.

His ass was sore, and his whole body ached from sobbing.

In the beginning, he hadn't believed Sangwook when he threatened to whoop his ass.

Why didn’t he believe the threat?

He thought back to what had happened today. What had led him to get his ass whooped.

– Flashback –

Today was one of those special days when Sangwook accompanied Hyunsu on his scavenger hunt.

Both were armed with weapons as they walked up the stairs.

Both suddenly froze, as the blind monster appeared.

Sangwook’s hand landed on Hyunsu’s chest, holding him in place.

Both fell silent as it walked past them.

Hyunsu nodded towards the monster with his spear, indicating to just kill it.

Sangwook looked at him sternly and shook his head.

Hyunsu didn’t care what Sangwook thought. He knew he could take the monster. Hyunsu had been training for months now, and he had finally mastered the monster inside of him… Well, kinda. Enough to fight the blind monster, though.

Hyunsu grinned at Sangwook, which Sangwook retuned with a glare.

Hyunsu jumped at the monster and pointed the spear towards it.

The blind monster sprinted towards him – unknowingly, towards his spear.

The monster made a terrible sound as its skin connected with the spear. It struggled for a few moments before Hyunsu gave it electrical shock. The monster fell to the floor.

Hyunsu smiled, “Did you see that- Au!”

Sangwook grabbed Hyunsu by the ear and scolded: “I told you to stay put.”

“Au! Au!” was the only thing Hyunsu said until Sangwook let go of his ear.

“You disobey me more time and I’ll–”

“Whoop my ass. Yeah, yeah. I know,” Hyunsu interrupted him, rolling his eyes. Hyunsu smiled again, “But did you see that, I killed it!” Hyunsu was quite proud of himself.

Sangwook just grumbled and said, “Let’s go, kid.”

****

Hyunsu kept watch, making sure no monsters appeared. But he started to get impatient. Sangwook was taking sooo long.

They only had half of the things they needed. An idea suddenly came to Hyunsu… He can just go alone… Get the other stuff by himself. He always does this alone anyway, so what’s the harm.

He left his spot and walked towards Ms. Son’s room.

He was looking through the cabinets when suddenly he heard the door opened. ¨

Hyunsu flinched and took out his spear.

In the doorway stood an angry Sangwook.

“I told you to keep watch, Hyunsu,” Sangwook berated.

“I’m sorry, but you were taking too long, and we have a lot on the list,” Hyunsu said casually.

Sangwook grumbled and walked towards the cabinets and started searching them too.

Hyunsu knew Sangwook was angry. And decided not to test him anymore today…

****

They had nearly everything on the list. They were only missing one thing: Yuri's teddy bear.

Yuri had told them that it was a small bear she's had since she was little. She said it wasn't that important and to only get it if they had the chance. Both Hyunsu and Sangwook knew it was important to her, though. So, both were dead set to get it for her.

The only problem… There was a giant monster roaming the halls.

They hid in the broken elevator. Waiting for it to disappear.

Hyunsu started to get impatient, just like earlier.

“We can just–”

“Shhh,” Sangwook hushed him.

Hyunsu sighed. He couldn't explain it, but today he just felt so energetic and bold. Well, he could explain it…

Hyunsu jumped up and ran towards the monster, spear in hand.

He was about to attack it when he was suddenly pushed into a room. He fell to the floor.

Sangwook quickly pushed a table against the door. They heard a loud roar coming from outside the barricaded door. Sangwook continued pushing objects against the door.

After a while the sounds disappeared, and they were sure the monster was gone.

Hyunsu walked toward the door but was quickly stopped by Sangwook. Sangwook had a strong grip.

“What were you thinking, young man?!”

Young man?

“What do you mean?” Hyunsu asked confused.

“What do I mean? You have acted like a brat all day, disobeying me every time,” Sangwook scolded, “Don’t you realize what can happen?”

“Have you forgotten I’m invincible?” Hyunsu stated.

“Hard to kill. Yes. Invincible. No.”

Hyunsu rolled his eyes.

Sangwook took a deep breath. Then he gripped Hyunsu’s arm and dragged him to a chair.

– End of Flashback –

Hyunsu waited for Sangwook to get back. He had gone out to retrieve Yuri’s teddy bear.

Leaving Hyunsu all alone, with only his thoughts.

Maybe he had acted like a brat today? Well, that still doesn’t give Sangwook a right to spank him.

Who did he think he was? His da-

Hyunsu thought of his father. Sangwook was nothing like his father.

Sangwook wasn’t cruel or mad all the time. Even today, Sangwook had been better than his father.

When his father had caned him, it had been torture. When he was done, he had told Hyunsu not to cry and to just go to his room without showing any comfort. Today when Sangwook had punished him, Sangwook had held him and showed him comfort. Letting him cry and stroking his back.

Sangwook was better than his father.

Suddenly the door opened. Hyunsu turned away from the door.

He may not be angry anymore, but that doesn’t mean he had forgiven Sangwook.

He could her Sangwook walk closer to him before he felt Sangwook sit down on the bed next to him.

“How are you doing, kid?” Sangwook asked.

Hyunsu shrugged.

Sangwook sighed, “You still mad at me?”

“No…”

“Good,” Sangwook took a deep breath, then said: “I only punish you because I care about you.”

“You care about me…” Hyunsu muttered in surprise, mostly to himself,.

It was like all of Hyunsu's suppressed emotions suddenly came out.

Hyunsu started crying and said, “I’m so sorry, Sangwook! I’m so sorry. I didn’t mean to be a brat!”

Hyunsu practically jumped into Sangwook’s lap.

Sangwook winched in surprise before hugging Hyunsu back.

Hyunsu started sobbing again, and Sangwook stroked his back gently.

“Sangwook.”

“Yeah, kid.”

“I have to tell you something… But-but you have to promise not to get mad…” Hyunsu stammered.

Sangwook stayed quiet, before saying: “I promise not to whoop you. Today, at least.”

Hyunsu took a second before whispering: “I took drugs…”

Sangwook rapidly broke the hug and looked him straight in the eyes, “You did what?”

“I just took some Adderall, that’s all…”

“That’s all?” Sangwook questioned angry, “Where the fuck did you find Adderall?”

“In the hospital room… In the cabinets… I took it when Yuri wasn’t looking,” Hyunsu said shamefully.

Sangwook took a deep breath, trying to control his anger.

“If you do something as stupid as that again, I will whoop you bare, got it?” Sangwook said mad.

“Got it…” Hyunsu frowned.

Sangwook sighed and asked, “Why would you even take drugs?”

“I just wanted to be brave…”

Sangwook looked stoic, before grinning, “You stupid baby. You really think you need drugs to be brave?”

“Yeah…”

“Listen, kid. You are one of the bravest people I know, and you don’t need drugs to prove it,”  Sangwook told him sternly, “Got it, adeul?”

“Got it, Appa.”

Chapter Text

“Can’t you make a story?” Suyeong asked.

Hyunsu had read the same book to them ten times now. And everyone had started to get quite tired of the story.

“Yeah! You can make one up!” Yeongsu said.

“Um, I’m not a good storyteller… And it’s late–” Hyunsu muttered.

“Please!” both children begged.

“Fine… Well, there was once a– a um– a bird. A sparrow. Who lived with his family. But the sparrow did not like his family–”

“Why?” Yeongsu asked.

“Well, his family didn’t like him.”

“Why?”

“Because he was different,” Hyunsu answered. “Anyway. The sparrow did not like his family, or his life. He really hated it. So, he decided that he would leave. He went to the tallest building he could find and decided to fly away. But before he could do that, he found a hurt vulture on the building’s roof.”

“What had happened to the vulture?” Suyeong asked.

“I don’t know,” Hyunsu shrugged, “But he had hurt his wing. The vulture was very wary of the sparrow and did not like him at first. But the sparrow still decided to help the vulture. The sparrow flew down to a shop and brought food and bandages for the vulture.”

“That was nice of him,” Yeongsu said.

“Yeah… Anyway. Many days later, a bunch of eagles were chasing the sparrow–”

 “Why?” Suyeong asked.

“Because they were mean. The sparrow flew as fast as he could, when suddenly the sparrow bumped into someone. The vulture. This time the vulture helped the sparrow.”

“So, the vulture likes the sparrow now?” Suyeong asked.

“Well, it is complicated. The vulture was a complicated bird…” Hyunsu explained, “It had gone many months when the sparrow met the vulture again. This time it was different, because the world had became a much crueler place. They decided to help each other, so they became friends. Later they became like family. Although not legally, the vulture adopted the sparrow. The sparrow was really happy, because finally he felt loved. The end.”

“I liked the story, it was sweet,” Suyeong said, Yeongsu nodded.

“Yeah, I liked the story too,” Sangwook suddenly said, standing in the doorway. Hyunsu hadn't noticed him.

Hyunsu smiled. And for the first time, Sangwook actually smiled back - although a SMALL and QUICKLY smile.

Chapter Text

Hyunsu came back from the scavenger hunt, tired as usually.

No one greeted him, which was weird.

Hyunsu walked down the stairs. He looked around the hallway when suddenly Sangwook came walking towards him. He had a stoic expression, but at the same time looked determined.

“Hey, Sangwook–” Hyunsu said while Sangwook unexpectedly started dragging him towards the hospital room.

Hyunsu didn’t understand what was happening before Sangwook pushed him into the room.

“Hyunsu,” Yuri said and greeted him with a hug.

“What is going on?” Hyunsu asked confused.

Yuri nodded towards Sangwook.

Sangwook sighed. “There is two new men here, they arrived this morning while you were out. I want you to stay away from them, understand,” Sangwook told him sternly; he looked at Yuri too.

“Why?” Hyunsu asked.

“Because I said so,” Sangwook told him. He had a strict tone.

“Yeah, but I wanna know why,” Hyunsu sulked like a toddler.

“Listen, boy. It doesn’t matter why. When I tell you to stay away, you stay away, got it,” Sangwook said, holding back his anger.

Hyunsu was about to say something before Yuri interrupted him, “Just listen to Sangwook. He knows best about this.” She had a gentle tone, unlike Sangwook. Her words surprised Hyunsu. Normally she would never admit Sangwook was right.

Hyunsu hesitated, but then nodded.

“Good,” Sangwook said, “ I need to talk to Eunhyuk and Jaeheon.”

Sangwook left the room.

****

Hyunsu had done his best avoiding the men today. But he had managed to catch a few glances of them.

They looked strong and dangerous; they looked to be the same age as Sangwook and Jaeheon. They were very intimidating. Everyone was keeping away from them, Hyunsu didn’t understand why they had let them in, in the first place.

When night arrived, Sangwook told Hyunsu to sleep in the hospital room together with him and Yuri. Hyunsu wanted hesitated but didn’t when he saw Sangwook’s stern face.

Hyunsu was sleeping on a stretcher, it was actually quite comfortable. While Yuri was sleeping on the sofa. Sangwook was awake, standing guard. Why, Hyunsu didn’t know.

Hyunsu slowly fell asleep. When he woke up again, he noticed Sangwook was gone.

Hyunsu got up and walked out of the room. He walked down the hallway when he suddenly froze.

He heard voices.

“We though you were dead,” a male voice said.

“Well, I’m not,” he heard Sangwook’s voice.

“What are you doing in a place like this anyway,” one of the men asked. He was bald and taller than the other.

“What was I supposed to do? Go out there?” Sangwook scoffed.

“Well, now that we’re here… Let’s take over, kick them out. Then there is more food for us,” the bald one said.

Sangwook had a stoic expression.

“What? You got a soft spot now?” the other man questioned Sangwook. He was short and had only one eye.

“I simply don’t see the point of killing a bunch of people,” Sangwook said.

“That’s a first time,” the bald one said, laughing a little.

Sangwook said nothing for a moment before muttering: “You do anything do this people and I kill you.”

His tone was calm and steady.

“Oh, you will kill us, will you,” the short one scoffed.

Within seconds Sangwook punched the guy in the face and they started fighting. The bald guy joined in soon after.

Hyunsu watched in awe, hiding behind a wall. This was the first time he had seen Sangwook fight. He quickly understood that Sangwook was an incredibly talented fighter. It looked like he was winning easily.

Hyunsu wasn’t sure what to do… Should he join in? Would Sangwook be mad if he did.

Suddenly Hyunsu noticed something in the short man’s hand. A knife.

His eyes widened and he watched the man stab Sangwook.

Sangwook barely made a sound, but Hyunsu could see pure terror in his eyes. He clutched his side.

“Sangwook!” Hyunsu screamed, running towards him.

Kill them!

The voices were back. But this time Hyunsu was happy for it.

“Who is this?” the bald one said, suddenly holding Hyunsu by the hair.

“Don’t you fucking touch him,” Sangwook spat.

“Why? He your boytoy?” the short one laughed.

 Kill them!

Hyunsu watched the fear in the men's eyes as his own eyes changed.

Hyunsu lost all control. He let the monster inside of him take over.

****

Hyunsu beat the men easily; they both laid on the floor unconscious. Bruised and bleeding.

“What is happening?” Eunhyuk suddenly came running towards them. Jaeheon was right behind him.

Hyunsu let go of the monster inside of him and almost fell to the floor as he gained full conscious.

He hurried to Sangwook. He was laying against the wall, luckily still awake.

“Are you okay?” Hyunsu asked worried.

Sangwook nodded, “It barely touched me, it’s just a scratch.”

Hyunsu didn’t believe him. He helped him walk towards the hospital room.

Eunhyuk and Jaeheon took care if the two men.

“Yuri! Yuri!” Hyunsu shouted as he entered the room.

Yuri hurried out of bed and walked toward them. Her eyes widened when she saw Sangwook.

Both helped him to a stretcher, and Yuri started pampering him. Making sure there was no serous damage.

“I’m fine Yuri, the knife just scratched me,” Sangwook grumbled.

Yuri rolled her eyes.

“Did you know them?” Hyunsu suddenly asked.

Sangwook looked at him, then nodded.

“What happened the to the plan?” Yuri asked, bandaging Sangwook’s stomach.

“They wanted to talk…” Sangwook muttered, “So we talked.”

“What plan?” Hyunsu asked.

“The plan was to kick them out tomorrow morning,” Yuri said.

“Oh.”

Chapter Text

Hyunsu’s pov

I ran as fast I could. I turned around and saw Dohun and his gang chasing me.

I fought the urge to cry.

I ran down the school corridor.

 Don’t trip. Don’t trip. If I trip, I’m dead.

Kill them!

What?

Kill them!

I can’t…

Yes, you can!

I ran into the bathroom, and into a stall. I didn’t lock the door, though. I stood on top of the toilet.

My heart was raising. I felt my whole-body shake.

This can’t be happening.

How did I end up here?

What had happened?

Why wasn’t I in Green Home?

Where is Sangwook? I want Sangwook.

I heard the bathroom door opened. I could hear someone walk in. Only one person though.

“Hyunsu…” I could hear Dohun hum.

I hear the stall doors open one by one.

I held my breath.

When the door opened, I saw Dohun’s smirking face.

“There you are,” he said in a light tone.

He dragged me by the hair and threw me on the ground.

I winched, and groaned, and laid on the floor too scared to move.

I heard Dohun’s laughter.

“You worthless pig,” he kicked me in the stomach.

He kicked me repeatedly until I could taste blood in my mouth.

Then he stopped. I could hear the sound of a zipper. Not mine.

“I have something for you faggot,” Dohun laughed and pushed my head against his crotch.

I closed my eyes and held my breath.

Dohun suddenly pushed my head against the wall repeatedly. I almost passed out.

“Fucking Fag. You hear me? You are a worthless fag,” he said.

Kill him! Just fucking kill him!

No, I can’t.

Suddenly the door opened and three guys of Dohun’s gang walked in. One of them held a rope.

I felt my shirt being taken of me, then my pants. Two guys held me up. My back was to Dohun.

Dohun took the rope and started whipping me with it.

I screamed and cried. But they didn’t stop. My whole body ached.

I screamed as I woke.

I rapidly sat up and fell to the floor from the stretcher.

It was all a dream.

“Hyunsu,” I heard Yuri’s voice.

I realized I was still in the hospital room with Yuri and Sangwook.

I started sobbing. My whole body was shaking.

“Kid,” I heard Sangwook’s voice.

Yuri’s pov

I saw Hyunsu crying on the floor. I said his name, but he didn’t react. He was just sobbing hysterically.

“Kid,” Sangwook said. I knew by his tone he was worried.

We both sat down on the ground beside Hyunsu.

Hyunsu flinched away from us, which worried me a great deal.

I looked at Sangwook, concerned, he looked at me back. We both had no idea what to do.

Suddenly Hyunsu started breathing fast and quickly, and he began shaking. I realized he was about to have a panic attack.

“Hyunsu, listen to me. I know you’re scared, but please listen to me. You’re okay, nothing is gonna hurt you,” I told him quickly. I could hear the worry in my tone. I looked over at Sangwook, “Right, Sangwook. Nothing is gonna hurt him.”

Sangwook nodded and said: “I’m not gonna let anything hurt you, kid.”

Sangwook tried to touch him, but Hyunsu just winched.

“Hyunsu,” I said, “Listen, kid. Just do as I do. Breath in, and breath out.” I began breathing slowly, and Hyunsu mimicked me. After a while Hyunsu’s breathing became calm and steady.

When Hyunsu was no longer violently sobbing, Sangwook sighed opened his arm, letting Hyunsu crawl into his embrace. Hyunsu cried as Sangwook held him. I stroked his back gently.

What had happened? Did Hyunsu have a nightmare? What kind of nightmare makes someone that hysterical?

I felt really bad for him. After a while I could see on Hyunsu’s face that he was embarrassed. He didn’t move from Sangwook’s lap.

“You wanna tell us what happened?” I asked Hyunsu after a while; I was playing with his hair.

He muttered something I couldn’t hear. I looked at Sangwook, but he shook his head.

“Can you please speak louder, sweetheart?” I asked. I tried to be as gentle as possible.

Hyunsu hid his face in Sangwook’s chest and said: “I had a bad dream…”

I looked at Sangwook, he had a stoic face. But I knew he was worried. I knew how much Hyunsu meant for him, although Sangwook would never admit it out loud.

“Will you like to tell us what it was about?” I asked.

“It was about something that happened… When I was in school,” Hyunsu cried.

I could see anger forming on Sangwook's face. I didn’t understand why.

“What did the punks do to you, adeul?” Sangwook asked angry. Tightening his grip on Hyunsu.

“Th-They stripped and whipped me with a rope,” Hyunsu stammered and began sobbing.

Sangwook grumbled began comforting Hyunsu.

My eyes widened in surprise. Hyunsu had once told me that he used to get bullied at school. But not that it was that bad.

I hugged Hyunsu, and Sangwook put an arm around me.

We stayed like that until Hyunsu fell asleep.

Chapter Text

Hyunsu walked past the camera room when he suddenly stopped. He saw Eunhyuk sitting on a chair humming to himself. Eunhyuk suddenly turned around and looked at him.

“You wanna join me?” he asked. He held up some chocolate, which Hyunsu had given him earlier today.

Hyunsu walked slowly towards him and sat down besides him.

Eunhyuk offered him some chocolate, which Hyunsu accepted.

“Thank you.”

“You don’t need to thank me. You’re the one who gave it to me,” Eunhyuk said.

Hyunsu put his hands to the sides when he suddenly brushed fingers with Eunhyuk.

Hyunsu slightly winched, and blushed.

Hyunsu and Eunhyuk made eye contact, but both looked away quickly.

“So, how was your day?” Eunhyuk suddenly asked.

Their hands were barely touching.

“Good, it was good,” Hyunsu said. Moving his hand closer to Eunhyuk’s.

“My day was good too,” Eunhyuk said. His hand gripped Hyunsu’s.

Hyunsu took a deep breath.

They held hands.

Chapter Text

Neither of them said anything. They just sat in comfortable silence and held hands.

Suddenly there was a knock. Both quickly let go of each other’s hands.

“Hey,” Yuri’s voice said. She had a happy tone.

“Yuri,” Hyunsu muttered, surprised to see her.

“Is there something you need?” Eunhyuk asked. Calm as usual.

“No, just wanted to tell you it’s lunchtime. You two should eat,” she smiled and walked away.

Hyunsu and Eunhyuk looked at each other, but neither said anything.

Hyunsu wanted Eunhyuk to ask to eat together but knew he would never do that.

They walked together to the food room, but Hyunsu left after getting his portion.

He always leaves and eats in the hallways with Sangwook, and sometimes Yuri too.

When Hyunsu reached their usual spot, he saw that Yuri was there, waiting for him.

“So,” she said, “You and Eunhyuk huh.”

Hyunsu blushed and started eating his food, without saying anything.

“You know… Sangwook came to me, all angry looking, asking me to tell you it was lunchtime.”

“What?” Hyunsu said.

“Yeah, he probably saw you two…” she muttered, “But don’t worry. Sangwook is just being Sangwook.”

After a while Sangwook joined them and they all ate in silence.

“How was your day, Hyunsu?” Yuri asked.

“Good,” Hyunsu said, eating.

“Good, huh. What did you do today, kid,” Sangwook asked.

Hyunsu had to stop himself from blushing, thinking about how he and Eunhyuk finally held hands. “Nothing. Nothing special,” he said.

“Nothing special, huh,” Sangwook said. Looking Hyunsu up and down.

“Yeah,” Hyunsu muttered.

Yuri giggled.

“So, there is nothing between you and Eunhyuk, huh?” Sangwook suddenly said.

“What?”
“Sangwook, don’t embarrass him,” Yuri scolded. Sangwook scoffed.

“Hyunsu will tell us when he’s ready. Right Hyunsu,” Yuri said.

Hyunsu simply looked down and nodded in embarrassment.

Was there anything between he and Eunhyuk?

Chapter Text

“Hey, Hyunsu,” Eunhyuk said.

Hyunsu was on his way to get lunch when Eunhyuk suddenly stopped him.

“Hey,” Hyunsu replied.

“Do you want to eat with me in the camera room?”

The question took Hyunsu by surprise. Of course, he wants to!

“Okay,” was all Hyunsu answered.

“Good,” Eunhyuk answered, smiling.

****

They ate in silence, neither said anything.

It was an awkward silence; the only thing you could hear was chewing.

Hyunsu wanted to start a conversation but didn’t know what to talk about.

“It’s good food…” Hyunsu said.

Eunhyuk just nodded.

“So how are things with you?” Eunhyuk suddenly said after a moment of silence.

“Good, even though we’re in the middle of an apocalypse,” Hyunsu joked.

Eunhyuk smiled.

There suddenly was a loud sound coming from the doorway, but when they looked towards it, no-one was there.

“What was that?” Hyunsu asked, a little frighten. Was it a monster?

“Whatever it was, it’s gone now,” Eunhyuk said.

Hyunsu suddenly looked down, feeling his hand pressing something. He hadn’t realized that he had grabbed Eunhyuk’s hand.

They looked up at each other and smiled.

“I like you, Cha Hyunsu,” Eunhyuk suddenly said.

Hyunsu’s eyes widened in surprise.

He grinned, “I like you to Lee Eunhyuk.”

****

It was nighttime and Hyunsu was walking happily down the corridor.

Suddenly someone hugged him from behind. It frightened Hyunsu at first, but he smiled when he saw it was Yuri.

“So, you and Eunhyuk, huh,” she smiled.

Hyunsu blushed, “I don’t know what you are talking about.”

Yuri smiled, “Come on, I know about your little lunch-date.”

Hyunsu froze, “What? How?”

Yuri bit her lips, “I kinda had to stop Sangwook from disturbing your date…”

“What?!”

Chapter Text

Hyunsu sat in the backseat quietly. Sangwook was driving, with Yuri sitting next to him in the front seat.

He stared out the window.

They drove towards the hospital, on their way to collect supplies.

Hyunsu's mind took him back in time to the last time he had driven with his biological family. The only thing he remembers was his father berating him.

This time he had a new family. A family that didn’t verbally abuse him.

“When we get there, we need to move fast. In and out,” Sangwook said.

“Well, I think that would be a little difficult. It’s gonna take time to find all the correct things we need, Sangwook,” Yuri said.

Sangwook groaned in disagreement.

Yuri rolled his eyes, “Stop making that sound, use your words, Sangwook.”

Hyunsu smiled. He always finds it funny when Sangwook and Yuri have their little disagreements.

Sometimes it reminds him of his parents fighting, but the difference is that, unlike his mother, Yuri actually spoke up. And Sangwook didn’t scream at her, like his father would do to his mother.

“Why are you grinning?” Sangwook suddenly asked, looking at him in the mirror.

“You guys are funny when you bicker,” Hyunsu giggled.

Sangwook smiled for a quick moment before his face turned stoic again. Yuri laughed.

They drove for about 1 hour before they stopped at the hospital. They had to take many detours before they finally reached the building.

As the got out of the car, Hyunsu began walking towards the building. But was quickly stopped by Sangwook grabbing his arm.

“Listen, kid. You do not leave our side, not matter what. For if you do, I’m gonna whoop your bare ass, got it?” Sangwook said stern. Hyunsu knew by now that he wasn’t kidding.

Hyunsu nodded. “Yes, sir,” he muttered.

They walked into the building. Hyunsu was in the front, with spear in hand. Behind him was Yuri, then Sangwook.

It didn’t take that long to gather the supplies they needed. But when they finally finished, it was too dark to drive back home.

Hyunsu helped Sangwook barricade the door, while Yuri made the stretchers into beds.

Afterwards, they ate their packed lunch, they mostly ate in silence, although Yuri and Hyunsu spoke occasionally. There weren’t much to do, so in the end they went to bed early.

Hyunsu slept in the middle of them. “Good night,” he said.

“Night,” Sangwook muttered, although he obviously wasn’t going to bed as he was smoking.

“Good night,” Yuri said, and laid down.

Hyunsu closed his eyes and fell asleep quickly.

Chapter Text

Hyunsu opened his eyes slowly. It was pitch black.

He could feel Sangwook’s arm around him. Yuri was asleep besides them.

Follow me!

Hyunsu flinched. What was that?

He looked around the room, but nothing was there.

Follow me!

The voice continued saying.

Sangwook and Yuri seemed to not notice the voice… Hyunsu realized it was only in his head.

Follow me!

The voice didn’t stop. Instead, it just got louder and louder.

Hyunsu put his hands on his ears and tried not to cry. The voice gave him a terrible headache.

Ignore it, ignore it, he told himself.

Even Sangwook’s embrace couldn’t protect him. Slowly Hyunsu got up from bed, trying his hardest not to wake up Yuri and Sangwook. He moved cautiously towards the door ang carefully began to remove objects from the barricaded door.

Hyunsu made his way through the corridors. He followed the voice.

Follow me!

He walked up the stairs in a trance. The voice had taken complete control of him.

Before he knew it, he was in the highest point in the hospital. The wall was gone, and he could see the whole city. He walked slowly towards the edge.

As one of his feet had left the ground, he was suddenly pulled backwards. Someone had grabbed his arm.

As Hyunsu came back to reality, he realized someone was hugging him.

He could smell cigarettes of the man embracing him. He realized quickly it was Sangwook.

Sangwook gripped his shoulders tightly. “What the fuck are you doing!” he yelled. Angry.

Hyunsu started sobbing. He practically jumped into Sangwook's arm and clung to him. Sangwook held him close and began rocking him slightly as he sat down on the ground.

“I’m sorry, I’m sorry, Appa!” Hyunsu cried.

“Shh, It’s okay, you idiot baby boy,” Sangwook groaned.

Sangwook had never been the sentimental type, but he tried his best to comfort Hyunsu.

After a while Hyunsu’s crying stopped, and he laid still on Sangwook lap. Tears in his eyes.

“Sangwook,” Hyunsu stammered.

“What, kid?”

“Do you love me?” Hyunsu asked. He already knew the answer though.

Chapter 24: Information + Maybe I'm back??
