Chapter 23: Anchorage

Chapter Text

Today was a big day for Anchorage.

As part of Richelieu’s recovery plan, she was to be monitored by two people wherever she wanted to go. And after the incident with Hermes, she became a permanent member.

Today, Anchorage was selected to be the second guard to the Cardinal.

The three were walking aimlessly down the streets leading to various food stalls that had been set up for the day, when Yuubari intercepted them. She asked them for assistance with an experiment she wanted to conduct today. With nothing better to do, the three accepted her offer, and followed her back to the laboratory.

“Thank you for helping me with this experiment,” Yuubari said, leading the group further into the lab.

“So, what exactly are we here to test?” Hermes asked.

Meanwhile behind them, Anchorage was ogling the fancy lights and electronics that she saw as she followed behind them.

“You all are here to help test a new teleportation device we’ve been working on.”

“Teleportation?” Richelieu repeated. “This seems rather unsafe, no?”

“I assure you, we have already tested the device on ourselves, and there haven't been any complications so far,” the light cruiser reassured them.

“Wait. If you’ve already tested it, then why do you need our help?” Hermes questioned again.

“Well, most of the people who worked on it are on the smaller end of the size chart, and we’ve only tested it one person at a time,” she began to explain, opening a door and ushering them into the teleportation room.

“Oh! So we’re here to test if there is a limit to the mass it can transport, and potential side-effects of teleporting with multiple people?”

“Exactly, now if you would all step into the chamber over there,” she said, pointing to the large glass room on the right. “You will be teleported to that chamber over there,” she added, pointing to an exact same room on the left.

Richelieu and Hermes stepped in the chamber, but there was one person that still needed to be in there. Scanning the room, they spotted her.

“Anchorage, sweetie,” Richelieu called to her in a warm voice. “Can you come over here?”

“Okie-dokie!” she said, turning around from a console at the far end of the room she was looking at, and skipped her way to them.

Once inside, Yuubari closed and locked the chamber door, before moving over to a console near to them. After pressing a few buttons, and moving a few nobs, the machine began to power up.

“Now, as this charges up, are there any last minute questions?” Yuubari asked the three.

“Question,” Anchorage spoke up, raising her hand into the air.

“What’s your question, Anchorage?”

“I messed with the device.”

“What…?” they all said with dread in their voices, turning towards the PR ship.

“They had shiny red lights on them!” Anchorage defended herself, pointing to the control panel with all the buttons glowing with red lights on them.

“What did you press?” Yuubari concerningly asked, the teleporter nearing completion.

“I have done nothing, but press all the buttons in the three seconds you weren’t watching me,” she cheerfully stated, not knowing the potential danger she had just put them in.

“Yuubari, turn the machine off—” was the last thing Richelieu said before she and the rest of the participants were teleported to an unknown location.
