There is Heroism in Sweetness

Summary:

An incident on the Sucrosi Road involving a portal causes Colin Provolone to get sent to a different universe; at the same time, on the other side of the portal, an overpowered explosion from a former friend launches 7 year old Midoriya Izuku through as well. This changes the direction of destiny for both worlds, and their inhabitants.

Notes:

First fic I've posted on my new account! Second overall, but since my other account and the one fic attached are obviously cursed, I'm starting up this new one to work on new stories, starting with this one. I present a tale of sweetness, of heroes, and those who desire the end of all that is good. Please, let me know what you think!

Chapter 1: A Cheese, and a Child

Chapter Text

“Come on, Provolone,” Colin said to himself, observing his target traveling alone down the Sucrosi Road. He had observed this old peppermint man for some time, to be certain that he truly was of the Sanctus Putris - the time he slew the innocent banana rower still hung heavily on his mind, and he had no desire to kill an innocent again. Now that his guilt had been ascertained, however, it was time to begin his ambush.

Swiftly, Colin charged the Candian priest, intending to finish this before the peppermint had a chance to react. His longsword flashed once, twice, both striking true. The peppermint collapsed to his knees.

“It isn’t personal,” Colin said, raising his cheese longsword, prepared to end this, “but I know the harm your beliefs cause.” Suddenly, however, the peppermint chuckled.

“Sir Provolone. I knew you would come for me eventually,” the peppermint said. “I knew I would die when you did, but at least I shall be able to stop you from killing any more of my order.”

The peppermint swiftly raised his hands and began to chant. A gateway opened behind Colin, to places unknown, and the Peppermint tackled him through. Unbeknownst to both of them, however, something was happening on the other side that would change the fate of Calorum, and the other world, forever.

On the other side of the gateway, seven-year-old Midoriya Izuku was standing between a boy lying on the ground and three others. “Kacchan, I won’t let you hurt him. That’s not what heroes do!” Izuku shouted at his former childhood friend.

“Seems like Deku needs to learn a lesson,” one of the other boys, the one with wings, said. “Yeah!” piped up the second. Bakugou Katsuki, also known as Kacchan, grinned and held up his hands, releasing sparks from them.

“Let’s teach him one, then,” Bakugou said, blasting Izuku with a large explosion. Izuku was launched backwards, unconscious, just as a portal opened behind him and the boy on the ground. As Izuku passed through, Colin Provolone and the dying peppermint tumbled out through it.

Colin Provolone would be trapped on this side of the dimensional barrier for some time, and would go on to become a great hero, and eventually a teacher at the famous UA academy, but that is a story for another time, as for now the tale to be told is one of Sweetness and of Strength. A tale of a Crown. A Crown of Candy.

King Amethar of the House of Rocks, a muscular purple Pop Rock person and the sovereign lord of the nation of Candia, was on his way back to Castle Candy from an urgent matter in one of the outlying towns. With him were, of course, the Tart Guard and their Lord Captain, Sir Theobold Gumbar, a Gummy Bear Knight. It was urgent he got back as soon as possible because his daughters’ seventh Saints Day was fast approaching and he couldn’t miss it just because travel time was a bit too long; it was with this fortunate matter of urgency that the procession came upon a child, lying in the middle of the Sucrosi Road.

“Halt!” Sir Theo called out, as he saw the child first, causing the entire procession to stop. “Theo, What’s that?” Amethar asked as he next noticed the injured youth.

“I am going to investigate,” Theo said, “in case it is an attempted ambush, you should remain back, my lord.” Theo got out of the carriage and cautiously approached.

The child, who with his green hair and light skin likely must have been a child of a broccoli and a cauliflower, so likely Vegetanian, looked injured. Theo recognized that something bad must have happened to have caused such large burns across his upper body, but there were no signs of any other people to have caused a struggle. Carefully, he picked the child up and carried him back to the procession.

“My Lord, there’s an injured Vegetanian child here. No signs of parents or the attackers; I regretfully believe that his best chance is to take him to. . .” Theo sighed, before saying, resigned, “Chancellor Lapin. He is knowledgeable in the healing arts.”

Amethar looked at the child as his heart clenched. He couldn't be older than Amethar’s own daughters! Who could do such a thing, to a child! Amethar wondered to himself. “We must move swiftly.” Amethar said definitively. “Remind me to have my wife send a missive to the Vegetainians; If possible we should find his parents. If not, hopefully my wife agrees we can take him in.”

As quickly as possible, they returned to the castle. It took two weeks for the child to heal; in that time, Amethar heard that there were no known missing children who matched the child’s description from Vegetania, and he and his wife would decide to take the child in, though it was mostly because their daughters, Ruby and Jet, discovered him and decided that once he awoke he would be their new friend.

Of course, there would be complications once he awoke.

Izuku returned to consciousness quietly, in a comfortable bed. That’s odd, he thought, Kachan must have hurt me badly for a hospital to accept me. From across the room, he could hear voices just outside the door. The room was decorated oddly, not how he would have expected a hospital to be decorated; it almost looked like it was made out of candy! Izuku had seen hospitals on TV occasionally, but it never showed the children’s area of the hospital, only the grown ups’. Maybe the decorations were to help keep sick or injured children calm? He began muttering to himself about potential uses for the candy decorations, meaning he didn’t hear the voices outside stop, or the door open.

He looked up when he heard someone talking to him, though he didn’t quite hear what they said. He looked up to see a large bunny person in long green robes. “Sorry, what did you say?” Izuku asked the bunny person, who looked surprised. There was a purple rock person standing behind the bunny, looking confused. The bunny turned back to him, and said more things Izuku didn’t understand.

Izuku started to panic, like whenever Kachan would explode too close to him when he wasn’t even doing anything. “Where am I? What hospital am I in?” He shouted at the bunny man and the purple rock man.

The bunny turned around and slowly raised his hands in a soothing gesture. Slowly, he pointed at himself. “Lapin Cadbury”. He said. The bunny then pointed at the rock person. “Amethar Rocks.” He gestured for Izuku to speak.

Fortunately, Izuku got what he was trying to convey. Izuku pointed at himself, and said “Midoriya Izuku.” He then pointed at what he now saw was a window covered by two long candyfloss curtains. The bunny seemed to get his meaning as he pulled the curtains back to show the outside; the entire world out there looked like it was made of candy! The bunny gestured outside and said, “Candia.”

Izuku promptly fainted.

“My lord, I do not believe the child to, in fact, be Vegetanian,” Chancellor Lapin said, looking at the once more unconscious Izuku. “When tending to his wounds, he bled red, an unnatural color for either a Cauliflower or a Broccoli to bleed. It is more likely he is of the Meat Lands with that trait, but the coloration of his hair and body do not correspond with that either.”

“Lapin, you know I don't understand when you talk in circles like that. What do you mean?” King Amethar asked his chancellor.

“I mean that between these details and the unusual language he is speaking the child may not be of Calorum at all. We must keep this a secret, my king. None but you, I, and perhaps,“ Lapin sighed, “Sir Theobold should know, for his protection.” He glances down at the sleeping child. “If you take him in, you should call him Izuku Sugar, as is normal for orphans around these parts.”

Amethar glanced down at Izuku as well. “Yes, for his own safety,” he said thoughtfully.
