Work Text:

Cathy woke up after hearing a loud crash. She was met with continuous lightning, thunder and heavy rain.

The survivor was embarrassed to admit, but storms were her biggest fear. They were a sensory nightmare.

She sat up and started rocking back and forth, a stim she only did when she was afraid or upset.

All the motion and noises from the storm soon woke Anne, who was in bed with her.

"Love...?" Anne asked softly, reaching out.

"Yeah..?" Cathy asked quietly.

"Are you okay?"

"Yea-" A particularly loud bang of thunder interrupted her, leading her burst into tears.

Anne, knowing Cathy better than she knew herself, knew what was going on. She sat up with her girlfriend and took her into her arms. She swayed and rocked the way Cathy liked as she cried into her neck.

"Shhh... I've got you." She rubbed gentle circles onto Cathy's back, trying her best to ground her.

Cathy squeezed Anne, holding her like her life depended on it.

"Make it stop..." Cathy whimpered.

"Oh, love.. I wish I could.." Anne said softly. "Would you like your special headphones?"

Cathy shook her head. "Uncomfy.."

Another loud bang of thunder and Cathy was hugging Anne tighter, if it was possible.

"Shhh it's gonna be okay Cath..." She said sweetly, pulling away from the embrace for just a moment to wrap a blue and shark patterned weighted blanket around Cathy, who was trembling now. She quickly went back to hugging her.

The storm was quick to die down, Cathy calming more and more the farther it got away, Anne whispering sweet words to her lover as it left.

Cathy was left exhausted.

She rested her head on Anne's chest, her grip on her releasing slightly.

"Someone's tired, hm?" Anne said with a small smile, receiving a gentle nod from Cathy.

"Let's get you properly laid down, okay, love?" Anne asked. Cathy didn't give a response, but didn't complain when Anne helped her lay down and get cozy.

Cathy rested her head on Anne's chest once more, listening to her lovers heartbeat. It was soothing, especially with the continuous back rubs.

Eventually Cathy felt the exhaustion hit her hard, and fell asleep fast.

Anne gave her a gentle kiss on the forehead, wishing Cathy goodnight before falling asleep herself.
