Work Text:
The Doctor loops wires around his neck and shoulders as he tries to get inside the central processing unit.
“I can't shift it,” He says.
“I thought the sonic screwdriver could open anything!” Sarah Jane says surprised.
“Anything except a deadlock seal. There's got to be something inside here. What're they teaching those kids?” The Doctor says and then a scream comes from the corridor outside. A very familiar scream. A bolt of terror shoots through the Doctor, he knows that scream, and he bolts out the room.
In the corridor Rose is lying slumped in the corner, blood pouring out of her chest. The Doctor sees Rose and immediately sits down next to her and pulls her onto his lap.
“Doctor,” Rose says weakly.
“Rose,” he says, tears forming in his eyes.
“I’m sorry,” She says.
“Why I’m the one that let you get hurt?” The doctor says as his tears start to fall. Sarah Jane had come out of the classroom and was just quietly watching them in a corner.
“Don’t you dare blame yourself for this, I’m the one who promised you forever and now I’m dying,” Rose says her voice surprisingly calm for one dying.
“Oh Rose,” he says, choking up.
“I, I love you,” Rose says her voice incredibly weak.
“Rose Tyler, I,” but before he can finishes his sentence Rose breaths her last and dies in his arms.
The Doctor stands up, tears rolling down his cheeks, and a cold hard fury in his eyes. Sarah Jane shrinks away from him, before this she would have said she had seen the Doctor at his most angry, but she had never seen him like this. She had never seen him quite like this. The Doctor takes his jacket of and lays it over Rose Tyler’s dead body.
“Come on,” he says to Sarah Jane, his voice cold, hard, with unimaginable grief just behind the anger. He strides down the corridors. The corridors are now filled with children trying to figure out what to do, but when they see the Doctor they part immediately, no one wants to get in his way. All of a sudden Mickey forces his way through the crowd
“There you are,” he says, and then he sees the Doctor’s face “Where’s Rose?” He asks, fear evident in his voice.
“She’s dead,” Sarah Jane says.
Mickeys face goes pale and he turns to face the Doctor “This is all your fault! You said you would protect her and now, now she’s dead!”
The Doctor turns to face Mickey “Do you think I don’t know that?” The Doctor’s voice is calm, and that calmness is even more terrifying then if he had shouted “Do you think I don’t know that this is all my fault?”
Mickey shrinks away and the Doctor continues to walk with Sarah Jane (and now Mickey) behind him. It didn’t take long to find Brother Lassar.
“You’re trying to break the Skasis Paradigm,” the Doctor tells him.
“Think of it, Doctor. With the Paradigm solved, reality becomes clay in our hands. We can shape the universe and improve it.” Lassar says, completely unaware of the danger he was in.
“I’m not going to let you,” The Doctor says simply, the pure unadulterated fury hidden carefully behind a pretence of calm.
“You act like such a radical, and yet all you want to do is preserve the old order? Think of the changes that could be made if this power was used for good.” Lassar says unaware that with every word he is making the Doctor even more likely to utterly obliterate him.
“What, by someone like you?” The Doctor says with false humour. Sarah Jane and Mickey look at each other confused, just seconds ago the Doctor was furious with Lassar and now he was joking with him? There was only one person that would have been able to see through the Doctor’s humour and she is now dead.
“No, someone like you. The Paradigm gives us power, but you could give us wisdom. Become a God at my side. Imagine what you could do. Think of the civilisations you could save. Perganon, Assinta. Your own people, Doctor, standing tall. The Time Lords reborn.” Lassar says, thinking that he was offering the Doctor something he couldn’t refuse. He wasn’t, every word he said made the Doctor more angry and there is no way that the Doctor would joking the people that killed his Rose Tyler and bringing up the Time War? Brother Lassar was digging his own grave.
“You keep bringing up the Time Lords but do you know what happened to them?” The Doctor asks Lassar, the false humour completely gone from his voice and the pure fury has replaced it. Lassar doesn’t reply but Sarah Jane leans in curious, the Doctor had mentioned something about everyone else dying but she had no idea that the Time Lords were all dead and now she curious. “There was the Time War, and I’m sure you’ve heard about that. But contrary to popular belief the Daleks and the Time Lords didn’t just end up killing each other, No something else happened. Me.” Sarah Jane gasps quietly and Lassar looks surprised “There was the weapon called the Moment, the Moment could destroy galaxies in a moment hence the name. I killed all of the Time Lords and Daleks and sealed the entire Time War in a Time Lock. I survived that not through choice. The Moment was sentient she wanted to be used and so she took on a human shape to convince me to use it. Do you know what human she chose to look like? Rose Tyler. This is before I had even met her and the Moment already knew that she was the best person to convince me. I met Rose Tyler when I was at my worst and made me back into a good person, and now you’ve killed her. What do you think I’m going to do to you know you’ve killed the one person that kept me good?” Sarah Jane and Mickey where both staring at the Doctor. Sarah Jane knew that something bad must have happened to the Doctor but that? She wasn’t expecting it to be as bad as that. As for Mickey he knew that the Doctor loved Rose but he had no idea about the extent of his feelings.
“In Dalek legend I am called the Oncoming Storm and you are going to feel the full wrath of the Storm. How dare you have Rose Tyler killed. You? You’re just a mash up of cultures who fancies himself a god! Rose Tyler looked into the Time Vortex, became a literal Time Goddess and you’ve gone and had her killed!” The Doctor yells, his face right in front of Lassar. “So which one of you did it, which one of you killed her?” The Doctor says, his voice has gone back down to its normal volume but the pure unadulterated furry still evident in every single syllable.
“Why would I tell you that?” Lassar says trying to keep his voice calm and cold and failing utterly. Brother Lassar is terrified, there is no way you could not be when the full fury of the Doctor is directed at you.
“You won’t tell me fine. You only get one chance. There are 13 of you right? Well it just so happens that there are 13 of me to,” the Doctor says and suddenly the sound of the universe rings our across the school. TARDIS after TARDIS appears in the school courtyard.
“What’s happening?” Lassar says panic evident in his voice.
“I’m a Time Lord. Time Lords regenerate. I have 13 regenerations and each one has the same TARDIS. My TARDIS is an interdimensional timeship and you’ve just killed here sister. She’s calling herself here taking one of my regenerations with her, they’ll have been filled in on the situation on their way here. I could easily deal with you all on my own, but each of me dealing with one of you? You won’t know what’s hit you,”
Each Doctor stepped out of their TARDIS. Each Doctor grabbed a Krillitane and dragged them back with them into their TARDIS. Each Doctor killed that Krillitane in a different gruesome way. Brother Lassar was the only one out of the 13 Krillitane not to die, his was a fate worse than death for the Tenth Doctor took Brother Lassar. The Tenth Doctor went into his mind and drove him mad. The Tenth Doctor forced him to stay stuck in his mind filled with all his greatest fears.
