Chapter 1: The first down fall

Chapter Text

Tommy was staring off into the distance as everything around him started to blend back into clear words.

"Thomas!" A man snapped, bringing Tommy back to the real world.

"Wh-what?" He looked down at his hands, one holding a soapy sponge, the other holding a dirty pan.

"Stop spacing out, will ya! Now get those dishes done already." Tommy looked back at the man and frowned, its just Dan, his foster parent.

"On it." He mumbled scrubbing the pan. His eyes flicked to the door, there were suitcases propped up against the wall. "Why are you all packed up." He said as he rinsed the pan.

"None of your god damn business kid. We'll be back in a month or two anyway." Dan grunted as he set another suitcase next to the rest. Tommy stopped all his body.

"Two months?...." He turned to look at Dan who just shrugged.

"Yep, and the good part about it... Your not comeing." Dan smiled, Tommy could tell there was no humor in his voice, just pure excitement. "Your watching the house while we are gone, no partying, and definitely no friends over." He said it like Tommy had friends, he just rolled his eyes and put the pan on the drying rack. "Dont fucking roll your eyes at me kid..." Tommy looked at him seeing him glare at him.

"I didn't." He lied, drying his hands.

"Dont lie to me prick." Tommy could feel his glaring eyes burn holes through him. "Im going to get Maria." With that, Dan turned away and headed down the hallway. Tommy sighed as he walked the opposite way, pulling down a set of stairs with a small hook that dangled from the ceiling. He climbed up them and crouched as he continued through the crampped place to a matress with blankets scattered on it. He layed down on his side on it, home sweet home... He thought as he pulled a pillow over his face too block out the light seeping through a dusty circular window to his right. He didn't even bother to take off his soft jacket that barely fit his slim structure. He could hear the muffled voices of his caretakers below, the rolling of wheels as they dragged them across the wooden floors, the vouces and loud movements of them stumbling around eventually faded. He heard a car door slam outside and the engine of it roar to life. The gravel making popping sounds as they pulled out of the long driveway and drove off.

Fucking bastards, how dumb are they? Leaving me, a minor, alone for two fuckin' months... Again... He thought as he gripped the pillow harder against his face till his knuckles turned white. I can manage... Ive done it before.. Its not that bad...innit? He kept trying to reassure himself, he could feel his stomach twist in anxiety. Shut up Tommy, shut the fuck up..... It'll be fine. Fuck, they dont even know about 'it' yet and they are already running away from responsibility.... They are just scum.... It'll be fine, i'll be fine. Tommy couldn't help himself as his thoughts went wild, he ripped the pillow away from his face, shocked to see darkness still. The sun had already set as he was drowning in his own thoughts. He picked his phone that was next to him, the light from it causing him to wince as it burned his eyes. He blinked a few times till the numbers on it became clearer. 9:46 pm was displayed along the screen. Tommy spaced out for almost 2 hours! He looked at the date that was next to the time and almost jumped out of his own skin. It was the 31st of August, tomorrow was his first day of freshman year. He slammed the phone down on the cold wooden floor and squeezed his eyes shut, as he groaned.

☆◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇☆

Tommy bolted up, causing the sheets on him to fly up off him as loud bells rang from his phone, he looked through the dusty window to see that daylight hadn't even come to say hello. He flipped his phone up and turned of the alarm. He must of dosed off after a while as his thoughts turned to dream.

He stood up with a grunt as he hit his head on the ceiling, he ducked down and grabbed his bag and slid on his shoes. He kept crouched as he walked back to the steps he forgot to put up. He slowly walked down the skinny steps, and closed it with ease, as he had practice over the spam of 3 years in this old house. He walked down the hallway back to the kitchen and flug open the fridge, there was nothing but smoked beef, and a couple of apples. They couldn't even leave an apple. He thought as he picked up an empyt bag that had held apples at one point. He tossed it in the trash. No breakfast i guess. He walked out the door and made his way down the road, he kicked any rock he could find into the road.

He was unsteady on his feet as he neared the school, he looked up at the highschool, a huge mob of hishschoolers infront of it, meeting with friends as they wait for the doors to open. He locked eyes with a boy he kinda knew from the year before, Tubbo. He rasied his hand a did a little wave, Tubbo turned his head completely, causing his fluffy brown hair to fall into his face covering the freckles that were all over him. Thogh the beanie he wore kept most of his hair in place, it looked almost deformed but he paid no mind to it. Tubbo returned the wave and flicked his hair to the side toclear his face. Tubbo was the only person he kinda knew, they had exchanged some talks and greetings when they were in Jr. High. He still dragged himself over to where Tubbo was, he didn't want to be alone in the crowd of people.

"Hey- uh....Tim?" Tubbo puased.

"The fuck?"

"Um.....Toni?" He squinted his eyes. Tommy put his palm to his face and lowered it slowly.

"Hello Tubbo, nice to see you again." Tommy snickered as he saw the boys face twist in guilt and frustration having forgot his name.

"Just tell me your name again, your being meaaan." Tubbo whined.

"Says the one who forgot my name."

"How dare you use that against me." The boy folded his arms.

"Fine, its Tommy." He paused. "Bitch." He added with a smirk.

"Okay, Tommy bitch." Tubbo grinned.

"What- wait, i didn't-!" The bell cut tommy off, ton of students rushed past them. He looked back at Tubbo "whats your first class?." He asked as they both started to follow the crowd inside. The boy pulled out a paper, handwriting all over it.

"Uh.. It looks like i have math." The boy looked back at Tommy.

"Hold on." Tommy pulled put a printed sheet of his schedule out and peered at the first one. "It fuckin math." He groaned. Tubbo chuckled a little.

"Not a fan?" Tubbo smirked.

"Definitely not, and never will be." He shoved the paper back into his pocket. The crowd had finally lead them into the door. Tommy looked around in awe, the ceillings where high and it was an open space infront of them, their was asingle area that was a foot below ground level, their were circular tables everywhere. To the left of it was huge stair cases and a wooden statue of the schools mascot. He looked down at the concrete floors, smooth as butter. He flinched as a hand brought him back from his thoughts.

"Ya still with me big man?" Tubbo's hand retreated when Tommy flinched but still kept a humorous light in his green eyes.

"Yep, still here." He hadn't realized he stopped. "Let's go find that math class and hope we have the same teacher."

"Yeah, it says room 206, it looks like their are different wings. Like kn that board next to those steps, its showing an arrow up next to '200s'. Lets follow that." Tubbo pointed to the stairs to the left.

"Damn, you dont have to be so descriptive." Tommy huffed as they made their way up the stone steps in the mob. People were eventually pressed up against him as they made it higher up the steps. Tommys body tightened. Why do all of them have to be so close. His hands clenched into fists, his knuckles turning white.

"We are going to be so late, this crowd isn't moving an inch!" Tubbo frowned.

"Yeah, no shit sherlock." Tommy grunted as someone was shoved into him. "Hey! Watch it!"

"I- sorry, s-someone pushed me." A tall lanky boy stuttered. Tommy turned to look at him, his hair was two different colors black and whit, and so where his eyes, and skin, it almost looked like he was two people that were sliced down the middle, put together. The boy was fiddling with his hands.

"Yeah whatever." He said eyeing the boy.

"It okay, you dont have to lie about that, Tommy is very pushble." Tubbo said elbowing his arm gently.

"I- hey!" Tommy glared at Tubbo, but the boy only smirked mischievously. The tall boy put his hand over his mouth to stiffle a luagh.

"So whats your name?" Tubbo asked the tall boy.

"Its Ranboo. And you?"

"Tubbo the coolest," Tubbo put his hands on his waist and lifted his chin up high chuckling. "And this is well, just Tommy."

"Fuck off." Tommy said rolling his eyes.

"Hey the crowds moving let see if we can slide past them." Tubbo didn't wait and just slid through the crowd, Tommybwas alone now, not being able to slide through the people. Well almost alone, Ranboo was still behind him, but not for long. The tall boy slid through the crowd with ease. Tommy couldn't find any where to slide through without having to touch someone. Tubbo appeared between two people. "Give me your hand." He said poking out his, Tommy sighed and gipped his hand. Tubbo jerked him through the crowd and finally made it to the top. They tredged through the hallways until they came to 206.

"Uh yeah i have this teacher too." Tommy said as they stood in the doorway.

"Comw om." Tubbo walked in, Tommy came in after.

"Hello, take a seat where ever you like." A women with fluffy blonde hair looked up through rectanglar glasses. "Oh my, Tubbo." The lady beamed.

"Hello mom, I forgot this was your class." Tommy nearly choked on his spit.

"Your what?" He said looking at Tubbo.

"My mom." Tubbo said cheerful. A few kids luaghed and snickered but shut up when Tubbo's mom glared. "Now lets sit over there." Tubbo said walking to one side of the classroom.

"Ugh. I already want the day to be over." Tommy groaned as he sat next to Tubbo.

"Now, hello class." Tubbos mom said smiling as she stood infront if the class, her long skirt swaying with each movement. "My name is Ms. Underscore, i will be your teacher for the rest of the year. Now i dont mind people calling me by my first name, infact i pefer it. My name is Puffy. Ms. Puffy to you all." Ms. Puffy clapped her hamd and turned to the chalk board and started rambling about herself. Tommy completely ignored her as he stared at the ground beneath her.

☆◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇☆

It was finnaly the end of the day, Tommy felt closer to Tubbo then ever. Tubbo and Tommy were shit talking to each other, Ranboo appeared and Tubbo invited him to walk with them on their way out. He came and Tommy and Tubbo were still bickering.

"Tubbo stop with these strange questions!" Tommy begged as they neared the stairs.

"Are oranges named after the colour orange, or is the colour orange named after an orange." Tubbo said smirking.

"Ugh, im gonna knock the lights out of you." Tommy threatened.

"Oh yeah?" Tubbo smirk turned into a grin, mischief written all over it.

"What are you pla-" Tommy was cut off when Tubbo shoved him laughing, Tommy almsot luaghed until he ran right into an older kid. "Shit sorry," he said backing away. He looked up at who he ran into, the boys curly brown hair swept to one side under a beanie. Their was someone next to the boy, it was someone taller and looked like hewas older then the other. His hair was long and a pale pink, tommy made eye contact with him and flinched not expecting his crimson eyes. He quickly looked back at the other boy as his brown eyes narrowed at him. "Sorry again." Tommy said feeling intimidated knowing they are probably way okder then him.

"Its alright mate," the brown haired boy said.

"Come on Wilbur, dads waiting." The pink haired boy said to Wilbur .

"Im coming." He said turning and heading out the school doors.

"Uh, akward." Tubbo said leaning twords Tommy. "Uh anyway i gotta head home, bye Tommy, bye Ranboo."

"Bye Tubbo, um i gotta go too, bye Ranboo." Tommy said turning away.

"Bye Tubbo, bye Tommy." The two eyed boy said. Tommy continued his way to his house. The second he made it their his stomach growled. Fuck. Tommy hadn't eaten all day. And there was no food in the fridge. He ploped his back back to the floor, and went serching through Dan's room for cash. He ended up finding a ten. He left his room and looked at a basket on the ground, full of his clothes, all dirty. Since Dan was too cheap to buy a washing machine, they used a laundry mat near by. He knows the soap their is a dollor a tablet, and two wash the clothes was a buck and too dry them was alo a buck. So he'd have 7 left over to buy a sandwich. He gripped the basket and was happy that the laundry mat was just around the corner. He opened up the door as the bell above him rang loudly. He walked up to the desk in the corner, a boy was behind a computer.

"Excuse me." Tommy said as the boy jumped, he almost felt a grin pop on his face.

"Ah- uh hello what can i do for you- ah your the boy i ran into." Wilbur's brown eyes felt light the where digging in him.

"Oh yeah-" Tommy said gripping the basket tighter. "Just need a tablet." He pulled out a one.

"Here." Wilbur gave a tablet and took the dollar. Tommy turned away and went to the closest washing machine, he popped his clothes in after checking a few pockets. He threw the tablet in and closed the door. He looked at the dials and completely went brain dead. They're a little different from what he knew. He walked back up to the counter. "

"Not to be a bother, but i need a little help with the dials." He said digging his nails in his palms, he hated asking for help, but he didn't want to be there long.

"Ok." Wilbur walked out from behind the counter and walked over with Tommy to the washing machine. "Just turn it to that one, these machines confuse a lot of people, dont worry." He smiled a little. Tommy almost felt like smileing back but bit his lip to keep myself from grinning. He stood up straighter and went back behind the counter. He leaned back on the washer and pulled out his phone. He opened it up but had nothing to do. He started figdeting with the tearing case, then started to mindlessly pick at his now bleeding cuticles. "Hey, catch." Wilbur tossed something to him. And Tommy caught it.

"What- whats this?" He asked holding up a cube with various buttons and switchs on its sides.

"Somthing to figet with so you dont rip out your nails." Wilbur nodded twords the bleeding cuticles.

"Why would you do that for a stranger?" He grunted flicking a switch on the thing over and over again.

"Well lets not bw strangers. Hi I'm Wilbur. You are?" Wilbur glanced at Tommy and Tommy looked away quickly.

"Thomas. You can call me Tommy if you want." Tommy flipped the cude around in his hands.

"Okay, Tommy. Are you a freshman?" Wilbur rested his head on his hands.

"Hm an old man asking a young boy what year he is, how weird." Tommy said mockingly.

"Im not an old man, you prick." Wilbur rolled his eyes, and Tommy grinned devilishy.

"Yeah I'm a freshman." He said leaning his arm against the washer bing uncomfortable with his back pressed against it.

"Im a sophomore, and that pink demon that was next to me is Alex my brother, but he prefers Techno." Wilbur pulled out a fidgit of his own and stared at Tommy.

"The one with the crimson eyes?" Wilbur nodded. "His hair was long."

"Yeah Dad's been trying to get him to cut it for years until he started to do his own hair." He chuckled.

"My hairs too curly when its long and gets matted easily, i dont know how he can handle that much hair." Tommy sighed.

"Me too, though its fun when he lets me braid it sometimes." Wilbur sat back in the chair behind the counter.
Tommy was a bout to say something but flinched when the beep went off for the washer, he cursed under his breath. He dragged the wet cloths into the basket and carried it to a dryer, he popped it open and dumped them in and started it. "Hey, um. Ive never seen you here before."

"Because Dan perffered a laundry mat thats farther down the road, but no way in hell am I walking there." He scoffed.

"Who's Dan?" Wilbur asked.

"Oh just my caretaker, or foster parent." He said messing with the fidget again.

"Oh- thats one thing we have in common I guess." Wilbur brushed the hair out of his face. Tommy looked up at him but didn't know how to respond. "So play any sports?" Wilbur and Tommy rambled together and talked all till the dryer beeped.

He pulled the clothes out and started folding them, still talking to Wilbur. When he finshed he walked over to the counter and set the fidget down in front of Wilbur.

"Thanks for letting me use it." Tommy tunred back to his basket.

"No problem kid." Wilbur put it away.

"Im not a kid." He grubled.

"Yeah yeah and im an old man." He said leaning back.

"Hell yeah you are, your balding too."

"I am not."

"Bald Wilbur."

"Im not bald."

"Its okay Wilbur, we know your in denial."

"Im not balding."

"Bald Wilbur."

"Not!"

"Baldbur."

"Shut up!"

"Baldingbur."

"Fuckin' prick."

"Your a bitch then." Tommy smiled.

"Ugh, whatever......"

"Okay i think ima head out now, see ya later!" Tommy headed out the door.

"Bye Tommy."

Tommy felt his shoulders sag when he left the laundry mat. He felt something like disappointment that he had to leave. Tommy shook his head, he's not, hes happy he left. Yeah hes happy, Wilbur was just bored and had nothing to do. He wasn't actually wanting to talk to him, so he didn't either. There was grumble in his stomach. Right, he was supposed to go bye a sandwich while his clothes were washing. He could go without a day of food, he'll be fine.

His back twitched, no, not his back. His wings twitched. He walked into the house and threw off his big jacket and stretched them big and letting them sit in the air for a little before letting them rest against his back again. He walked over to the hook hanging from the ceiling and pulled it, the stairs fell from the ceiling. He walked up te small steps, clutching the basket to his side awkwardly, as his other hand held the steps ahead of him as he clambered up into the cramped space.

He placed the basket to the side and retreated to his bed. Snuggling into the nest of blankets. He closed his eyes and drifted off to sleep.

Chapter 2: Just another day

Notes:

Just a quick one, i decided to do another chapter, all because of this one wonderful person saying i should. It doesn't take a lot for me to do shit.

I want to skip to the traumatic part, buuuut, i have to introduce y'all to everyone first and maybe little snippets of some angst, but until then.

(See the end of the chapter for more notes.)

Chapter Text

The ringing of his alarm ripped Tommy away from the comfort of sleep. He slowly un wrapped his big wings from his body, letting the cold seep into his skin. White feathers with faint grey dots at the end where scattered on his bed. He brushed them off, he would need to preen his wings later, but that could wait. He reached for his phone attempting to turn of the blaring alarm but ended pressing snooze instead. He groaned loudly, annoyed, and stuffed his face in his pillow to muffle it.

The silence started to turn into the soft pitter patter of rain against the circular window. The rain was soothing and calming, Tommy let his shoulders relax, the bed was so comfortable. Its okay if he misses just one day, right? The blaring alarm brought him back to the real word, making Tommy stand up too quickly to stomp on his phone. His vison went black for a moment, he could feel himself fall back. He landed back on his bed, his vison returned shortly after.

"The fuck!?" He yelled angered by the sudden fall.

The alarm was still going off, he was ready to smash it with his foot, but decided against it. He dragged himself out of the comfort of his make shift nest and stretched his wings, they were too big for the attic but he's kept them underneath his jacket for a while. He traded out his pants for deep blue baggy jeans, then put on a clean shirt. He looked around for hia favorite jacket, it had red sleeves, hood, and collar. He didn't find it anywhere so he opened up the stairs.

He went down the first steps normally then when there was enough room, he jumped to the side using his wings slightly to catch himself. He put the stairs back up with ease. He skipped through the house to find his jacket on the floor with his back pack. He pinned his wings to his back as best he could then slid on the jacket. His wings disappeared, he reached back and could still feel them, but knew they weren't visible. Humans thought that only witches were able to do magic, but hybrids and witches never fought, and tuaght the hybrids magic so they could protect themselves from the humans. Tommy had engraved a sigil on the inside of the jacket, and enchanted it, so it would make his wings disappear, it would also hide the lump that it created. Though if someone came too close they would be able to feel them, so he stayed as far away from people as possible, not wanting to break his cover. He slid on his big boots.

He slung his bag on his sholders and opened up the fridge. Oh, right..he forgot to buy food. Oh well, another day without food cant be that bad. He pulled the red hood over his golden hair, matted of course, he couldn't remember where he put the comb yesterday. He marched out the frobt door and was instantly soaked. The rain wasn't so calming anymore. He broke out into a run to make it too school, ignoring the pain in his stomach screaming at him to eat.

After a little bit of runningbthen walking then right back to running, he eventually made it to the front of the school. Tubbo was in the same spot as before but this time with the tall as motherfucker, boob boy. Tubbo was wearing the same beanie ges worn for years, And Tommy simply ignores the symmetrical lumps on either side. Ranboob has a huge umbrella, and was looking at the rain like it was acid. He eventually made it to the group after carefully pushing through the crowd.

"Big man! Look at these cool compasses i found!" Tubbo practically shoved the metal circles in his face. "I had the greatest idea. We should carve our names on the back and give it to each other!"

"What about boob boy?"

"Oh, he said he didn't want to do it, because he was afraid to lose them." Boob boy nodded then focused back on the rain. "So we get to do it! Here i already carved my name in." Tubbo dropped the heavy thing in his hands, he turned it to its back, 'Your Tubbo' engraved in the copper metal.

"Give me the other one so i can get it done before class."

Tubbo's smile widened as he handed him it. Tommy pulled out a pocket knife that he almost forgot he had, it was bright pink. Tubbo's smile faded as he stared at the knife.

"And i thought i was weird. And then heres Tommy with a bloody weapon on school property!" This brought Ranboob back to the conversation.

"K-knife!?" Boob boy whispered, worry across his face.

"Shut up." He hissed as he started to carve the 'o'.

"Lets just ignore he has a knife, you good Ranboo? You look a li-......"

Tommy tuned out their voices, focusing on finishing the task at hand before the bell. The knife he was using is something he's held on too for years, since before foster care even happened. A dear friend of his had given it too him... He nevers plans on getting rid of it, its always on him, no matter what. He finished carving the 'y', and dusted the carvings off with a finger.

"Done." Tommy handed Tubbo the compass. Then slickly put the knife away.

"This means we'll always be able to find each other! See how smart i am." Tubbo put his hands on his hips, holding his chin high.

"Yeah, yeah, keep dreaming Bee boy."

"I- Bee boy? Where did that come from?"

Tommy rasied a brow and looked Tubbo up and down.

"Maybe because of your black and yellow sweater, but i guess i dont know." Tommy rolled his eyes. Tubbos face flushed slightly.

"Oh-...." Was his only answer.

"Awe, you embarrassed?"

"Whot!? No! Im not embarrassed!" Tommy luaghed as Tubbos face got redder.

"Mhm, whatever you say you dwarf."

"If im a dwarf! Then your a bloody gremlin!"

"Hey! Im not a gremlin! You bitch!"

"Tommy gremlin innes!"

"Im not a gremlin! Wait.... How the fuck do you know my last name!?"

Tubbos face paled.

"Uh- um- oh! Ya here that? I got some friends calling for me! So sorry Tommy, but i gotta run." Tubbo dashed away with an evil grin on his face.

"You fuckin' bastard!" Tommy reached for the Bee boy. Ranboob sighed. Tommy had to start chasing the dwarf through the crowd, he caught up to him but the fuckin' bee boy pished him as he giggled. He was falling back, cursing at the boy ad he darted away. Strong arms caught him, and Tommy flinched, holding in a yelp of shock.

"Will- help- i accidentally caught this child-" a deep voice boomed in Tommys ears, though it seemed a little panicked.Tommy slipped away from the arms that caught him and got to his feet. He whipped his head around to see a tall lanky fuck, and a pink bitch.

"Um- thanks for catching me?" The pink haried man, who Tommy thinks caught him, sighed. "Oh, hey Baldbur, long time no see." He got a dramatic gasp ouy of the older boy.

"Im not bald you gremlin child!"

"Not a kid, random bald dude."

"I should've ignored you." Wilbur pinched the bridge of his nose.

"But ya didn't." Tommy gave the biggest toothy grin ever, before flipping of the older boy and running. He looked back to see the pink haired man; which he thinks is Techno, give the older boy an evil grin before saying something that made the boy throw a book at his head. Tommy smiled, having given Wilbur's brother something to tease him with.

Tommy turned slightly, heading back to where a petrified Ranboob stood. There was a figure behind the tall boy. He saw a flash of yellow and bkack stripes behind boob boy, and smiled bigger.

"Ranboob!" Tommy cringed on the inside as he saw the boy flinch. "Have ya seen bee boy? I lost him after he pushed me.." Tommy put a fake frown on his face.

"I- i dont think i h-have." The boob boy said fiddling with a strand of hair, Tommy had noted yesterday that he fiddles with stuff when hes nervous.

"Oh then whose that behind ya?" The boy froze.

"Uh- no one."

"So you dont mind this?" Tommy charged at the boy, swearving to the side, avoiding the frozen bitch, he reached behind him getting ahold of the hidden Tubbo.

"Hey you fucker!" Tubbo whined.

"Your a bitch bo-" the loud ring of bells made Tommy jump. "Fuckin' bells, always cutting me off." He released the short boy.

"Lets hurry to class." Boob boy said as he carefully avoided puddles on their way.

"Who cares."

"Me Tommy, if im late, My mom will murder me!"

"Almost forgot Ms. Underscore was your mum."

"The kind Math teacher from two-o-six is your mom?"

"Yeah."

The three boys mindlessly had made it to the top of the stairs.

"I guess the schedule is already engraved in our muscle memory."

"Stop being a nerd Tubbo."

"Yeah whatever gremlin."

"I am not!
