Actually being with each other was different than just texting with each other.
For years, Yui was the only person Izuku could call a friend, one who wouldn't judge, wouldn't care and wouldn't harass him over being "the quirkless kid" not like Kaachan Bakugou. They held on for years , with the rare occasional meetup but their own lives and locations would often clash, so texting was Izuku's only lifeline with his only friend (likewise, for Yui too).
Yui was always the silent girl, she wasn't the best at communicating, nor did she ever want to, it's just not "her", she could understand if this was a turn off for some but there was Izuku, one who always chose to hang out with her and her deafening silence, silence that he counters with his mumbling. She actually found it... Soothing? Therapeutic? It didn't bother her as much and his mumbles were actually useful sometimes (she'd bet without his help, she wouldn't have gotten as high as a score on UA's written exams)
They were both overjoyed at being at UA together, but disappointed at being in separate classes but they did their best to try meetup and chat (or rather "Izuku rambles and Yui nods") could they live without the curious looks from their classmates? Yes but they didn't care (yet) they had 6 years to catch-up on.
So when after the fiasco that was USJ, Yui couldn't hold it together, she couldn't bear the thought of permanently losing Izuku, this was totally different than just chatting online where responses need not be guaranteed right away (even if Izuku could always manage some type of message or two). This was life or death, and Izuku got lucky.
So damn that purple-haired kid from Gen-Ed with a chip on his shoulder, damn the rest of 1-A and 1-B, Izuku is here, he is safe, he is alright, he is her friend and she will not be denied for once. Gripping the green haired in the tightest hug she could muster (in full view of a lot of people). Before dragging him somewhere more private.
"Whoa did everyone see that? Kodai just kidnapped a boy!"
"What the hell? How did he get a girlfriend so quickly?"
"Wow. Midoriya's got some serious game if he's got a girl like that..."
"tch mute and deku sitting in a fucking tree..."
Classes 1-A and 1-B were left stunned by the most nervous boy in existence and most quietest girl ever waltzing off together into the unknown
Yui wasn't sure what to say, speechless once again with practically so many things she wanted to ask Izuku but no words could ever come out (how's it been? What's up with your "quirk", Kacchan still a bitch? Who the heck was your coach, Takobah Beach, how'd you do it? ).
"I guess I should start?"
"hmm"
"Well it wasn't as bad as it looked"
Yui raised an eyebrow while taking her phone out and started typing. Izuku naturally took out his phone to see her message.
Bitch I was fucking worried about you holy fucking shit USJ gets attacked by fucking villains and you go "not that bad"
"Well when you put it like that... Sorry but we did manage to make it all out"
"You could've died"
She didn't mean that to be the first thing she wanted to say to him, not after something like USJ but she needed to get her point across, which matters right? And it's been awhile since their last "meetup" (turns out lunches are readily interrupted by things like "class rivalry" and "break-ins") meaning that this is one of the few times where they have meaningful interaction with each other and Yui is gonna make the most of it.
"Sorry Kodai, I didn't want you to worry"
I'm very worried right now
"D- don't be, I can explain”
Izuku could never really gauge Yui’s expression (well nobody did) so by explaining himself as much as he could would be enough to get her side. Yui will always appreciate his openness and honesty around her for that. She repaid him by being an attentive listener, taking in everything he said, never judging him for it and also never speaking it with anyone else.
It is this that made Izuku so comfortable to disclose an otherwise closely held state-secret with her. He should probably have cleared this All Might
"hmm”
"What if I told you that quirks could be passed on? Directly I mean, not through genetics"
“hmm?”
“Did you hear about the sludge monster attack?"
Yui gave him a strained look before typing on a separate web page for her, searching up the event in question and seeing the headlines.
Oh shit that was in your area right? All Might dealt with him right?
“10 months ago I was attacked by that same villain, he also got Bakugou too”
Yui began looking through the reports and pictures did manage to see a kid in the picture struggling with that sludge man. Monster. Whatever.
Bakugou was trying to vore a sludge monster and you never told me?
Izuku was taken aback by the message, having personally been there himself, he certainly never thought to be thinking about it that way .
"well, after that, I met someone important, someone who told me, believed in me, that I too can be a hero"
Izuku got real close to Kodai (who's feeling rather red at the moment) and whispered something into her ear:
"Set, did you find them, what's up between Kodai and umm-?"
" Midoriya Izuku . I too would like to know why they went off together. Did they perhaps meet up before UA?"
The class rep of 1-B Itsuka Kendou, and the vice-rep of Class 1-A, Yaoyoruzu Momo, were both equally curious as to where their classmates disappeared off to especially after that public display of affection by the otherwise reserved Kodai Yui from 1-B's perspective, in fact, as far as both classes were concerned, nobody who were in different class had met each other before UA.
"Yoo Kendou, this looks some juicy stuff right here"
"what is Setsunna?"
"hey I just got my eye and ear here, I'm missing like, half the story here, be pa-"
Tokage Setsunna, equally curious and wanting to keep an eye on her fellow classmate decided to do some snooping around, wouldn't be the first time she's done it (she was quite the gossip girl and information broker in her old school) with her quirk, surveillance was rather easy if one knew where to look/listen.
"Oh. My. God"
"Language"
"Cool it Vines, I think I just heard a love confession going on!"
"Love confession?" This has now piqued the interest of 1-A's own gossip girl, Ashido Mina "Damn this early too? He's rather bold"
“He’s whispering in her ear and everything, damn this golden!”
"That man All Might himself, my real quirk is called "One-For-All", I inherited it from. He was the one training me for about 10 months"

"I know, I know it sounds ridiculous but please Yui, you have to be dead serious with me" He said, getting closer with a more pleading face. Yui felt hers heating up.
"You can not tell anyone else about this" he began in a low voice " All Might's life and quirk are notoriously top secret stuff but a while back he got injured, real bad, you don't see it because he hides it but All Might needed a successor, and that successor was me. Those villains at the USJ? I suspect they're one of All Might's older villains he fought in the past-"
That was a lot to sink in at once, as Izuku kept rambling on tangents related to his unique relationship with All Might and what it entailed, Yui was left thinking about the absolute truth bomb she just got from her long time friend.
All Might is practically dying
Izuku is his successor
Villains are the real deal
" So I understand if we can't be friends anymore"
That last line caused her to blink and really scrunch her face at the suggestion he just made. Unbeknownst to the two of them, an eye and an ear were floating by having managed to spot the two, and caught the second half of the conversation
"Oh shit oh fuck, no, I think they're breaking up?"
"What?" was the collective response of all the girls eavesdropping in this private conversation between two first-years
"what"
"Look, I know-"
Yui grabbed him by the shoulder, pulled him close and activated her quirk. Izuku's shirt was now 3 sizes smaller and is currently constricting him. Yui was typing furiously into her phone before showing the sent message to his face.
"K-Kodai?"
I'm. Not. Leaving. You. Ok? We're training to be heroes right? That means stepping into dangers unknown, if this is how it is, then count me by your side
She resized his shirt back to normal giving Izuku time to breath, Yui took out her phone to once again speak.
I've been alone for the past few years waiting for a day like this, a day where we can finally meet up again and be friends again and you're gonna let some villains do that to ya?
"Kodai wait-"
I'm done waiting, I want it now. I want you
She put her back in her pocket and looked at his face directly, he seemed surprised at the message.
"It's been too long," she began "I want you Izuku."
she pointed her hand at his chest, typing on her phone with the other at a furious rate.
If that means more villains, more attention, fine, but don't be alone
We know that never worked then so why suffer through that again?
You are not going to be alone, not this time, why? Because we're heroes, Izuku
We’re supposed to be the ones that say “I am here”
Is that not what All Might would say to someone in need?
And also I don't want you suffering in the dark, I know you are
Izuku’s thoughts took a proverbial mental punch to the gut, all this time, he’s been so alone, so focused on getting a grip of OFA, UA and everything else, that he’s forgetting one of many reasons he kept on going, the one last line of hope, that one person in the corner before Yagi who told him he can be a hero
I am here
Is that not what All Might would do?
"K-Kodai-"
"Call me Yui, please"
“Yui, I’m. Sorry. This is- this is all so new I feared this was the end. Of us”
Then let’s begin anew, we’re still in our first days or so at UA, we’ll have time to figure it out
“You really think so?”
‘Mm”
Besides we've got time before sports festival proper, plenty of time to catch up I reckon
We can train together if you want, I've figured out new aspects of my quirk I know you’ll want you to see
In a rare show of emotion, Yui let out a sassy wink leaving Izuku blushing at the sight of the normally inexpressive girl.
Training together and hanging out together, like… friends, no lovers? Is that even possible?
For whatever reason something deep inside Izuku that felt like multiple voices calling out from the void seemingly agreed with his decision.
"Yui Kodai chan, would you like to… train with me then?"
"Yes"
"Hot damn you two!"
Whatever illusion of privacy they had was soon burst (or had already been burst) by the sudden arrival of several 1-A and 1-B students to their location.
"Bold move Yui” teased Tokage, her eye and ear returning back their owner “Securing a boy fresh off a villain attack"
"And all before the Sports Festival no less" Spoke the invisible form of Hagakure
"So, you had a secret girlfriend this whole time?" cheered Ashido but not without a mischievous grin on her face
“Hi, Midoriya right? I’m Kendo Itsuka of 1-B. We were just checking to see where you two went. Kodai sorta did drag you away”
“Ladies, I think it’s only fair we give Kodai and Midoriya their private time together” came the reasonable voice of Yaoyorozu.
“Fine”
“This isn’t over by the way”
The girls walked away, content with their findings (for now)
The inevitable reactions came, With Izuku's friends in 1-A in full view now.
“D-deku-kun? You know a girl already?”
“Midoriya, I’m rather surprised you knew someone from our sister class, much less in an intimate relationship with them! Should I go over the proper etiquette for…”
“Kinda manly that you managed to nab a girlfriend this early in the year”
“Deku, Mute”
The duo turned to see a familiar face an old nemesis for both of them but one more personal to Izuku especially
“Just because you got laid doesn’t mean anything, I’m still better than you Deku, and I don’t be need some side-chick to keep me going”
"And yet" Yui began "you're the one who needed a posse of boys to keep you going"
The loud chorus of hollering from 1-A that ensued as many read into the insinuations of that line.
"They were EXTRAS, just like all of you!"
"you still took that 'extra' support though"
Not giving her a further chance to speak he simply stormed off in typical Bakugou fashion, all in all, a civil discussion.
With the fiasco of 1-A and 1-B coming to terms with the newest cross-class relationship, it was time for one of many important meetings and catchup to do.
“Young Midoriya? I didn’t expect you to come back so soon” Much less with a girl no less.
“Sensei, this is Kodai Yui of 1-B, she’s a really old friend, well girlfriend now? Of mine, I’ve managed to finally catch up after so many years and well… I told her everything about us”
Toshinori coughed up a torrent of blood, stunning the emotionless girl on her phone as the number one hero tried to regain his composure.
So this crackhead is meant to be All Might?
“Yui! You can’t call All Might a crackhead!” All Might would’ve been laughing harder were he not coughing up blood at the absurd description of his current condition.
Oh boy, this is gonna be a doozy thought Izuku as he noticed Toshinori regain his posture to begin speaking properly
“Well, young Midoriya, if she truly is the one for you, who am I to judge? It is your quirk now. It is on you to decide who should and shouldn't know. And to you, Miss Kodai, I won’t lie and say this will make things easier, hero work hardly is but will you be up to the challenge? ”
“Yes. Yes I am”
“Then there’s nothing left to explain.
Izuku breathed a massive sigh of relief, he didn't think All Might would be so accepting of Yui this quickly and casually, another imaginary weight lifted off his back
"I’ll just remember to watch Kodai as well you, Young-Midoriya. I look forward to you performance Kodai Yui, and beyond”
Looks like I’ll have to keep an eye on 1-B as well as 1-A if I’m gonna do this right.
Toshinori Yagi promised himself to make sure All For One would not ruin this romance as well.
"Remember home? Well, your old home?
The two had reached the Midoriya residence, where she used to lived as well. She could fondly remember her time here and recognize the building even though it had changed a bit over the years in her absence, it still felt like home, as if she never moved at all.
“Mom, I'm home! I got a surprise guest too”
“A surprise guest? who- Oh my!”
Kodai only gave a small wave as she saw Auntie Inko again. She had definitely gained weight over the years since she last saw her but Inko still had the loving caring motherly spirit she carried with her
“Yui-chan? Is that you? You’ve grown so much!”
Yui let Inko embrace her and was promptly reminded how tight of a hug she gave. She missed her too.
“H-happy to see you too auntie…”
“I swear, this past year, Izuku awakened a quirk, getting into UA, USJ, and now you! I swear, it’s been one thing after another”
“That’s not the only thing mom… Izuku nervously added on dreading the inevitable reaction. Yui held his hand in support, smiling as she did "We’re dating now”
“MY BABY”
The apartment complex was flooded yet again as a result of the trademark Midoriya tear ducts.
Two weeks came and went, marked by lots of catching up and equal amounts of training. Soon it was now the Sports Festival, and the world is watching. The hero course students of 1-A and 1-B had been gathered up in their respective waiting rooms, except for two had came in a little later.
“Well this is where we’ll have to part ways"
“Mm”
“Well then" Izuku stuck his hand out for her, as a gesture of goodwill. "May the best hero win”
“Mm”
Kodai however had other plans, taking his hand and bringing him closer, until they got face to face, where their lips eventually touched. The moment was brief but lasted far longer in either mind.
“May the best hero win, Izuku”
Breaking away from each other they entered their respective waiting rooms, now competitors aiming for the same goal, both knew this would be the start of a new chapter between them.
They were here, they were together, they would take on the whole world.
