Chapter 1: A Heartfilia Reunion
“Man, you guys are pathetic” stated Jay with a sigh of annoyance as he stood in front of a large group of defeated dark wizards. When Jay agreed to take a job taking down a dark guild he hoped that it would give him a challenge but everyone in the dark guild was a joke. The dark guild was such a joke that Jay didn’t even remember its name, he wondered how the magic council hadn’t taken care of these losers themselves.
“Might as well check on those two although I bet they are just as bored as I am” stated Jay to himself as he turned around and started to walk in the direction he knew his fellow guild mates were.
As Jay walked towards his destination his mind wandered. Thinking about the state of his life, Jay didn’t have a lot of complaints. The life he was leading was certainly different from the one his father envisioned for him but that was fine by Jay since he never wanted the life of a wealthy businessman. Thinking of his father, Jay felt conflicting emotions.
Jay was the son of Jude Heartfilia, a once incredibly wealthy business tycoon. Being the only male heir, Jay was schooled intensely from a young age with the goal of taking over the family business. Just like his big sister Lucy, Jay was never interested in that sort of thing since he didn’t share his father’s lust for wealth and prestige. All Jay really wanted growing up was a happy family, but his father made that impossible.
Jude Heartfilia had become horrible to Jay and Lucy after the death of their mother. Becoming more obsessed with his wealth and prestige, Jude treated Jay’s sister like a pawn while he sent Jay away to a boarding school that was famous for teaching the future leaders of industry. While Jay was away at boarding school he thought about what Lucy was suffering through alone. His big sister Lucy was six years older than him and when he was eleven and still at school Jay heard that Lucy had run away from home.
It was from an angry letter his father wrote that Jay leaned about Lucy’s rebellion. In the letter Jude expressed his disappointment in Lucy’s failure and stated his renewed determination to make sure Jay turned out right. Jay remembered he felt proud of his big sister reading that letter, she was living the dream that they both had from a young age. That dream was to become a wizard and join guild. The thought of one day joining a guild and going on grand adventures got Jay through those lonely days at the boarding school.
One day Jay saw his own opportunity to run away and live his own life. It was a shock when Jay received a letter in the mail from his father explain that he had lost his entire fortune. Knowing that his father was without his wealth and resources, Jay could finally run away and become a wizard. Taking this opportunity Jay left the boarding school and set out master his own form of magic since Lucy was the one to inherit their mother’s spirit keys.
Jay heard that Lucy had joined the best guild around, Fairy Tail. Wanting to do the same, Jay resolved to join the best guild once he had mastered his own magic, he just had to find out what sort of magic he should work to master. After a year traveling alone, Jay had a strong grasp on his new magic and was eager to join Fairy Tail. His plans however were shattered when Jay learned that Lucy along with the best of Fairy Tail vanished after an attack by the black dragon.
At first Jay was heartbroken hearing this news. He had already lost his mother and now he had lost his sister as well. After some time, Jay reconciled with his father, it seemed he had become a better man thanks to Lucy. Together the two of them agreed that Lucy was still out there and one day she would come home. Waiting on that day Jay achieved his dream of joining the best guild in the kingdom, it just wasn’t Fairy Tail since they had fallen really low in the pecking order. Now seven years had passed and Jay was proud of his strength since he was chosen as part of the team representing the best guild in the kingdom during the Grand Magical Games.
“There you are Jay; we were starting to wonder if you were beaten” stated Sting with a smile. Smiling back at Sting, Jay started to speak.
“As if, these weaklings didn’t even make me break a sweat. I really hope the Grand Magic games is more of a challenge than this” responded Jay.
“From what I hear the games just got a whole lot more interesting” responded Sting with a smile. Arching his eyebrow in curiosity, Jay started to speak.
“Oh, and why is that” asked Jay in a curious tone.
“Apparently Fairy Tail is entering the games this year” responded Rouge in his typical dead pan tone. Sighing with annoyance, Jay started to speak.
“Come on, you guys had me excited there for a moment. Fairy Tail is the weakest guild in the entire kingdom. How is that supposed to make the games interesting” asked Jay in an annoyed tone. Sighing to himself Jay thought he just had to accept the fact that the games would be a complete stomp. Jay supposed the boredom of never being really challenged was the price of being on top since he was a top ranking member of Saber Tooth.
“That might change since the rumor is Natsu is back” responded Sting in an excited tone. Hearing these words, Jay’s heart stopped for a moment. If Natsu was back than that meant the others that vanished could be back.
“Gajeel is also back” stated Rouge, eager to prove himself against his idol. Jay could hardly believe these words as he started to speak.
“Wait you mean to tell me everyone from Fairy Tail that vanished seven years ago is now back” asked Jay in a shaky tone. Sting nodded his head as he started to speak.
“That’s the rumor. The games should be interesting if Natsu in participating” responded Sting in an excited tone. Jay could hardly even hear Sting as a whirlwind of thoughts raced through his mind. Could this mean that Lucy was finally back?
“Hey Jay, are you okay” asked Sting as he waved his hand in front of Jay since he had spaced out. Snapping out of his thoughts, Jay turned around and started to run away from the twin dragon slayers.
“Hey where are you going” shouted Sting as Jay jogged in the other direction. Turning around Jay shouted back.
“I have to see this for myself! The job is already done so I’ll see you two back at the guild. I might be a couple of days so don’t wait up” shouted Jay before he turned back around and jogged away. As Jay ran towards the general direction of Magnolia he knew that Sting and Rouge must be confused by his reaction. Not wanting to be judged because of his last name, Jay omitted from his guild mates that he was a Heartfilia, so no one knew that he and Lucy were related.
“Please be there” stated Jay to himself as he continued to rush towards his destination. After a couple of hours, Jay stumbled off the train he had reluctantly boarded.
“Damn, that was a mistake. I feel like I’m going to be sick” stated Jay in a pained tone as he clutched his aching stomach as he dropped down to one knee in the middle of the train station. As Jay tried to calm his pained stomach he heard a feminine voice start to speak to him.
“Oh my are you okay” asked the female voice. Grunting with pain, Jay didn’t even look at the person speaking to him as he started to speak.
“Ahh yah I just have terrible motion sickness; it should pass soon” responded Jay in a pained tone.
“Oh, you poor thing. You remind me of my friend who has the same condition. Is there anything I can do to help” asked the sweet voice. Hearing these words, Jay chuckled to himself as he started to speak.
“Haha I think I have slightly worse motion sickness than your friend. Mine is downright terrible” responded Jay with a smile as he finally found the energy to stand back up since his motion sickness was fading. Finally looking at the woman that had been speaking to him all this time, Jay gasped with shock as he started to speak.
“Wait hold on! You’re Mira Strauss” stated Jay in a shocked tone as he looked at the smiling face of Mira. Jay would have recognized Mira anywhere; he was a big fan of her modeling career.
“Hehe yup that’s me. What’s your name” asked Mira in a sweet tone. Jay felt himself blush at Mira’s sweet smile. Truth be told he harbored a crush on the popular model, and it felt unreal to be standing in front of her.
“Oh, umm my name is Jay” responded Jay, choosing to leave out his last name.
“It’s nice to meet you Jay. Are you sure you don’t need any help? With my friend’s similar condition, I know how to treat motion sickness” responded Mira in a helpful tone. Jay shook his head as he started to speak.
“No, I’m fine now. Once I get back on solid ground my condition clears up” responded Jay with a smile. Smiling back at Jay, Mira started to speak.
“Oh, okay then. Well, I should get going since my train got in late and my friends might start to worry about me” responded Mira before she waved goodbye and started to walk away. Jay was stunned at he admired the beautiful Mira Strauss walk away, his mind filling with lewd thoughts as he watched her leave. Suddenly remembering the reason for his hellish train ride, Jay ran up to Mira as he shouted after her.
“Hold on! Wait for a moment” shouted Jay as he ran towards Mira. Turning back around to face Jay with a curious look, Mira started to speak.
“Is there something you need” asked Mira in a helpful tone. Again, Jay felt a blush creep across his face at being this close to his favorite model as he started to speak.
“You know the way to Fairy Tail right? Could you take me there” asked Jay which made Mira become curious as she started to speak.
“Yes I know the way, but why do you want to see Fairy Tail” asked Mira in a sweet tone. Seeing that Mira was likely being protective of her guild, Jay knew that he would have to tell her the whore truth.
“This might be a shock to hear but what I’m about to tell you is the truth” responded Jay as he prepared to tell Mira his full name. Taking a deep breath, Jay continued to speak.
“My full name is Jay Heartfilia” stated Jay, hoping that Mira would believe him. Mira gasped with shock at these words as she took a closer look at Jay. Looking over Jay, Mira could not deny the family resemblance. Just like Lucy, Jay had blond hair but his was short and spiky. Looking closer Mira saw that Jay shared the same eyes as Lucy. Staring wide eyed at Jay, Mira started to speak.
“Wow really? Lucy never told me she had a twin” responded Mira in a shocked tone as she looked over Jay. Jay smiled back as he started to speak.
“Well, I’m not her twin, I’m Lucy’s younger brother” responded Jay with a smile. Mira took another moment to look at Jay before she started to speak.
“Really? You look the same age as Lucy, maybe even slightly older” asked Mira in a curious tone. This time Jay was the one to give Mira a curious look as he started to speak.
“What do you mean? Lucy is six years older than me, that can’t possibly be right” responded Jay thinking that while he definitely filled out nicely in his seven years that there was no way he could look older than Lucy. Suddenly Mira had a look of realization on her face as she started to speak.
“Oh that’s right, silly me. I forgot that time didn’t pass for anyone that vanished seven years ago” responded Mira with a smile. Still not understanding what Mira was talking about, Jay started to speak.
“What are you talking about? I don’t understand” asked Jay in a confused tone. Mira then went on to explain to Jay that the Tenrou Island group was suspended in a spell called Fairy Sphere for seven years and none of them aged during that time. Shock filled Jay at this explanation knowing that biologically he was now a year older than Lucy.
“Wow that’s a lot to take in. I’m a year older than my big sister now” responded Jay in a disbelieving tone. Giggling to herself, Mira started to speak.
“Hehe I can be a lot to take in, trust me it came as a shock to all of us when we learned how much time had passed” responded Mira with a smile. Nodding his head, Jay started to speak.
“I can imagine. Damn seven years” stated Jay still not fully believing that Lucy and the others than vanished had skipped over seven years. Now that Mira could undoubtedly see that Jay had a family resemblance to Lucy and his genuine reaction to the time skip, Mira had no more doubts that he told her the truth.
“I can see you are telling the truth; the family resemblance is obvious. Do you want me to take you to Fairy Tail now” asked Mira in a sweet tone thinking that Lucy’s younger brother didn’t mean the guild any harm. Nodding his head, Jay started to speak.
“Yes please” responded Jay in an eager tone. Smiling sweetly at Jay, Mira turned around as she stated to speak.
“Follow me then” responded Mira in a sweet tone as she started to lead Jay in the direction of the Fairy Tail guild hall. As the two of them walked towards their destination, Mira could not help but check Jay out. It felt a little weird since Jay was Lucy’s brother, but Mira had to admit that Jay was quite handsome. Sharing similar family features, Jay’s eyes shone with a friendly sparkle and his muscles didn’t hurt either. Admiring the sight of Jay’s muscular arms, Mira noticed a tattoo on his right shoulder, and she started to speak.
“Jay is that a guild tattoo” asked Mira in a curious tone as she pointed at his tattoo. Smiling back at Mira, Jay nodded his head as he started to speak.
“Sure is! Lucy wasn’t the only one that dreamed of joining the best guild around” responded Jay in a proud tone. Not recognizing the guild mark, Mira smiled at Jay as she started to speak.
“Really? What guild is that” asked Mira in a sweet tone while she masked her disappointment that the answer was no longer Fairy Tail. Smiling back at Mira, Jay started to speak.
“The all powerful Saber Tooth of course” responded Jay, proud of the fact he bared the guild mark of the strongest guild in the entire kingdom. Hearing these words, Mira stopped walking for a moment. Seeing that Mira had stopped walking, Jay looked at Mira and continued to speak.
“Is everything okay Mira” asked Jay sensing that something was wrong. Mira took a moment before she smiled sweetly at Jay as she started to speak.
“Sorry your answer just came as a shock since Saber Tooth is our biggest competition in the upcoming games” responded Mira in her signature sweet tone. Smiling shyly at Mira, Jay stared to speak.
“I hope there are no hard feelings that I am a member of the guild that took the number one spot away from you guys” responded Jay with a shy smile. Shaking her head, Mira started to speak.
“Not at all. It was just a shock; you must be a strong wizard then” responded Mira with a smile. Nodding his head, Jay started to speak.
“You bet, I’m one of Saber Tooth’s strongest. I can’t wait to tear it up in the Grand Magic Games and remind everyone why Saber Tooth is number one” responded Jay in a proud tone.
“Wow you are even representing your guild? You must be really strong then. What sort of magic do you use? Is it the same as Lucy” asked Mira in a sweet but curious tone. While Mira knew that Jay was an obstacle standing between Fairy Tail reclaiming the number one spot, she could not help but like him. Just like Lucy, Jay had a kind smile, and his handsome face was making Mira blush slightly.
“My magic is way different than Lucy’s since she was the one to inherit our mother’s spirit keys. I had to find my own magic to master and after seven years I’ve done just that” responded Jay with a smile before he continued to speak.
“Sorry but I don’t think I can tell you Mira since you are in the competition. I don’t want to give you any unfair advantages before the games even start” responded Jay with a smile. Nodding her head, Mira started to speak.
“That makes sense but now I’m really curious” responded Mira with a smile. Flashing a confident smile at Mira, Jay started to speak.
“You’ll just have to wait till the games to see but trust me Mira it will be worth the wait. I bet I could even beat Erza Scarlet” responded Jay in a confident tone. Growing up Jay, like many others admired the famous wizard from Fairy Tail and in terms of battle prowess Jay was always most impressed with Erza. In addition to his excitement at hearing that Lucy was back, Jay was also excited to test himself against someone as strong as Erza. Giggling lightly to herself, Mira started to speak.
“Hehe that’s a lot of confidence. A lot of people have tried and failed to beat Erza” responded Mira in an amused tone. Slamming his fist into his open palm, Jay started to speak with a confident smile.
“Trust me, I can take Erza down no problem” responded Jay in a confidant tone as he noticed the scent of strawberries before another voice started to speak from behind him.
“Is that so, and who thinks they can beat me so easily” stated the new voice as Mira stared to speak.
“Hi Erza, how are you” asked Mira in her signature sweet tone as Jay jumped back and looked at Erza. While Jay stared opened mouth at Erza, she started to speak to Mira.
“I’m fine, I’m just curious who this man is who thinks he can beat me without a problem” responded Erza as she turned her intense look towards Jay. Feeling a bit of his confidence drain at Erza’s intense state, Jay was silent as Mira started to speak.
“Erza meet Jay Heartfilia, Jay meet Erza Scarlet” stated Mira in a sweet tone. Hearing these words, Erza’s intense stare turned into a curious look as she started to speak.
“Heartfilia? As in Lucy Heartfilia” asked Erza in a curious tone. Nodding his head, it took a moment for Jay to form a response.
“That’s right. I’m Lucy’s younger brother although I guess biologically I’m a year older than her now. It’s nice to meet you” responded Jay as he extended his hand towards Erza. Erza stared at Jay with a shocked expression as she studied his face. The resemblance was undeniable Erza thought as she smiled and accepted Jay’s handshake. Jay grunted with surprise at how strong Erza’s grip was as she shook his hand before she started to speak.
“I think I remember Lucy saying something about a little brother once. You certainly look like you are related. It’s nice to meet you as well” responded Erza with a welcoming smile. Smiling back at Erza, Jay started to speak.
“This is great meeting the two of you. I’ve admired the both of you for a long time. I’ve always been a big fan of you Mira and hearing stories about your strength Erza always made me want to test my own strength against you” responded Jay with a smile.
“Aww that’s sweet of you to say. I’m always happy to meet a fan” responded Mira in her signature sweet tone while she slightly blushed.
“Are you sure you think you can handle yourself against me” asked Erza as she admired how handsome Jay was. Erza felt a blush creep across her face as Jay flashed her the signature Heartfilia smile as he started to speak.
“I know I can Erza! I’m one of Saber Tooth’s strongest wizards, I can handle you no problem” responded Jay in a confidant tone. Hearing these words, Erza started to speak.
“Oh, you are a part of Saber Tooth” asked Erza in a curious tone as she just noticed Jay’s guild tattoo. Nodding his head, Jay started to speak.
“That’s right and I’m sorry to be the one to tell you guys but Fairy Tail doesn’t stand a chance against Saber Tooth. I don’t care if Lucy is a part of Fairy Tail, I’m going to fight hard for the pride of my guild” responded Jay with a proud tone. Despite knowing that Jay was her enemy in the upcoming Grand Magical Games, Erza could not help but think Jay was endearing and cute. Soon after Jay said these words, Mira continued to lead him towards the Fairy Tail guildhall with Erza following them.
“Here we are” stated Mira in her signature sweet tone as she stood in front of the Fairy Tail guildhall with Jay and Erza.
“Really? This is the guildhall? It’s so small” responded Jay in a confused tone thinking that the small guildhall in the middle of the woods wasn’t that impressive.
“It’s small now but once Fairy Tail takes back the number one spot that will change” responded Erza with a smile.
“That’s easier said than done Erza. You will have to get through me first” responded Jay in a confident tone.
“I look forward to seeing what you can do in battle Jay but for now I image you want to reunite with Lucy” responded Erza with a smile thinking that Jay had the same warmth that Lucy did. Nodding his head, Jay started to speak.
“Yes, it’s been seven years since I’ve seen her. Lucy is certainly going to be shocked to see how much I’ve grown” responded Jay in an amused tone. Together the three of them walked into the Fairy Tail guildhall.
“Mira, Erza! Welcome back” stated Kianna in a happy tone before she noticed the person walking with Erza and Mira.
“Who is this” asked Kianna in a warm tone as she looked over Jay thinking that he looked handsome. Kianna’s words carried through the guild hall, bringing everyone’s attention to Jay. Before Jay could respond to Kianna’s question, he heard a familiar voice start to speak.
“N-no way, Jay is that you” asked Lucy in disbelief as she stood abruptly up from the table she was sitting at.
“Whose Jay, Lucy” asked Wendy in a curious tone since she and Lucy were just having a conversation when Lucy looked over at the newcomer. Lucy hardly even heard Wendy as she stared open mouthed at Jay while he started to speak.
“Hey Lucy, it’s been a while. I heard you were back in town, so I dropped by” responded Jay with a smile, a few tears running down his face. Getting the confirmation that this was indeed her younger brother, Lucy ran into his arms. With tears running down her face, Lucy wrapped her arms around Jay in a tight hug as she started to speak.
“I can’t believe it’s you. I’ve missed you so much” responded Lucy in a tearful but happy tone. Smiling Jay returned Lucy’s hug as he started to speak.
“I missed you also Lucy. When I heard about the Tenrou incident I was so worried about you, but I never lost hope that you were still alive” responded Jay with a smile. Taking another moment to hug her younger brother, Lucy then stepped back from him and started to speak.
“You got so big, you’re taller than me now” asked Lucy with a smile as she compared their heights. Laughing to himself Jay remembered the days when he was much smaller than Lucy and always followed her around their home.
“That’s what happens after seven years” responded Jay with a smile.
“Lucy who is this guy” asked Natsu in a curious tone as he and Happy walked up to Lucy. Lucy smiled at Natsu as she started to speak.
“Natsu this is Jay, he’s my younger brother” responded Lucy in a happy tone. Hearing these words, the guild expect for Erza and Mira erupted with sounds of shock. Smiling to himself Jay answered many questions as Lucy’s guildmates asked about him. Answering many questions, Jay thought it was great that Lucy was finally back. As he was thinking this Jay couldn’t help but think if Lucy had always been this attractive.
