    It had already been a long day for Keith, and it was only a little past noon. He sighed and shut his phone off, stuffing it into his pocket and readjusting in his seat. He glanced around the room in a bored manner, before turning to look at the clock on the wall above the whiteboard. Why the room had a whiteboard, Keith didn’t know. There was never anything written there, considering this was a study hall. The clock was a little behind, Keith knew from past experience, so from what he could see, there were only a few more minutes until lunch. 

    ‘Thank god,’ he thought, before sighing again. ‘Right, I’m eating lunch with Lance, Pidge, and Hunk. Can’t believe I forgot. Where are we even eating at? Should I text Lance and ask? Whatever. I'll just head down to the cafeteria and look for them.’ For the few moments he had until the bell rang, Keith laid his head down on the desk in front of him and closed his eyes, taking a deep breath in an attempt to calm down from earlier. Sensing his unease, Kosmo perked up from his place under Keith’s desk and rested his head on Keith’s lap in his own attempt to calm the boy down. Keith smiled a bit and reached a hand down, beginning to gently card his fingers through Kosmo’s fur absentmindedly. Keith knew he shouldn’t have said and done what he did, but as always, he was too impulsive for his own good. 

    Even after his talk with Shiro about being impulsive, he still managed to fuck up. On the same day, no less. In the midst of Keith’s thoughts, the bell rang, and Keith reluctantly sat up and grabbed his things, before standing. He watched as everyone else left the room before finally leaving himself, Kosmo quietly following beside him. He began the trek downstairs to the cafeteria, stopping by his locker on the way to put his things away and grab the lunch he packed. No way in hell was he eating the school food. 

    Once he was done, Keith shut his locker and gave Kosmo a quick pat before continuing to head towards the cafeteria. When he arrived, he scanned the room for his friends. Can he call them that? Keith knew that Pidge was his friend, but he wasn’t sure where he stood with Lance or Hunk. Especially since Lance seemed adamant they weren’t friends, yet continued to talk to him like they were. People were confusing. He didn’t see the group on his first pass, so he scanned the room again, looking closer this time. Eventually, he spotted the trio and made his way over, dodging people and occasionally glancing back to make sure Kosmo was alright. He finally arrived at the table and sat at the end next to Lance, Kosmo taking his place at Keith’s feet under the table. The three turned to him and smiled. 

    “Keith! Nice of you to join us! I was nervous you were going to flake after what happened earlier.” Lance chuckled, fidgeting with the strings on his jacket. Keith gave him an awkward nod, eyes focused on his lunchbox as he opened it up and pulled out some small snacks for Kosmo. He fed them to him, the dog happily accepting the treats. After he finished, Keith pulled out his own food and drink, setting them on the table and closing his lunchbox back up. He then realised Lance was staring at him, although the other two at the table were minding their business. Keith turned to look at Lance, arching a brow in confusion. Lance noticed he’d been caught and sputtered, attempting to mutter out an apology and excuses. Keith just shrugged and grabbed his drink, opening it and taking a sip.

    “Sorry about earlier, by the way.” He spoke up finally, the other three looking at him.

    “Hey, it’s alright man. Well, not alright, but we understand. Thank you for apologising to us. Have you apologised to Shiro yet?” Hunk responded, smiling softly at him. Keith tensed and shook his head no, refusing to look at the group.

    “Well, we won’t rush you, but you should apologise soon.” Pidge spoke, shrugging as they took a bite of their food. Keith nodded, sparing a glance at Lance who had gone back to eating. 

    “I’ll apologise when we get home. He doesn’t deserve a half-assed text like earlier.” Keith mumbled the last bit, grabbing some of his food and opening it, slowly beginning to eat it. There was a bit of awkward silence for a bit, before Lance spoke up in an attempt to get rid of it.

    “So! Tell me about yourself, Keefer.” He grinned, turning to look at the boy in question. Keith rolled his eyes at the nickname, but shifted to face Lance better.

    “What do you want to know?” Keith asked, unsure how to properly respond to Lance’s curiosity. He was never really good at small talk, so he hated this kind of thing, but he had gotten used to it over the years.

    “Hm,” Lance thought for a moment, dramatically bringing a hand up and stroking his chin as if he had a beard. “Oh! It’s cool if you don’t want to answer, but can I ask about you using any pronouns?” Lance looked at him curiously, a grin on his face. For a moment, Keith thought Lance was making fun of him, but pushed that thought away when he remembered how accepting Lance seemed.

    “Oh, uh.. I guess I just use any pronouns ‘cause I don’t really mind what people call me? I mean, I’m a guy, and I doubt that’ll be changing anytime soon, but I don’t care if people call me she or whatever.” Keith responded, giving a small shrug. He watched as Lance nodded, seeming to process the information.

    “That’s cool!” The boy smiled, taking another bite of his food. From then, the lunch period continued on, the time being spent with Lance and Keith getting to know each other a bit better by asking questions, Hunk and Pidge joining in occasionally. Eventually, the bell rang to signify the end of lunch and Lance, dramatic as ever, pouted and sighed loudly, before grabbing his tray and standing.

    “Looks like this is goodbye for now.” Lance smiled at him, waving before leaving to take his tray up and head to his next class. Hunk and Pidge also said their goodbyes, and once the cafeteria was decently empty, Keith stood with his things. He walked to the nearest trashcan and tossed his things, before heading back up to his locker to grab his stuff and put his lunchbox away, Kosmo trailing behind him. The day continued as it usually did, though it seemed more boring than usual and everything seemed to make Keith angry. By the end of the day, Keith was exhausted and couldn’t wait to go home, before remembering that not only did he have an apology to make, he was also grounded until next week.

    He sighed and exited his last class of the day, making his way outside to wait for Adam, sitting on one of the benches lining the sidewalk. It was chilly outside, but it was still a nice day. While waiting, Keith spent his time watching everyone leave and watching the trees sway in the wind, listening to music in his headphones. He wasn’t sure how much time passed, but eventually Adam walked outside and sat next to him. Keith paused his music and took his headphones off, looking at Adam. 

    “Hey, I heard what happened earlier. Are you doing okay?” Adam asked, receiving a shrug in response. Keith turned to look at the ground in front of him, petting Kosmo gently. 

    “I don’t know why I said what I did, but I’m gonna apologise. I just need time to cool down once we get home ‘cause today was really overwhelming.” Keith sighed, picking at the rips in his jeans. Adam nodded, standing up.

    “Well, Takashi’s class is going on for longer than he thought it would, so you should have plenty of time to relax and maybe think about what you’re going to say before he gets home.” Adam gave him a small smile, and Keith nodded, also standing up. With that, they walked to Adam’s car, Keith choosing to sit in the back so that Kosmo had more room to lay down. The drive home was quiet, and once they arrived, Keith immediately went inside and to his room, setting his things down and laying on the floor.

    Getting the hint, Kosmo layed on top of Keith, gently nudging Keith’s face with his nose. They stayed like that for a while, Kosmo on top of Keith while Keith absentmindedly petted the dog. Eventually, Keith heard the front door and some talking, before hearing footsteps begin approaching his room. There was a knock on the door, and Keith gave a hum. The door opened to show Shiro, and he stepped into the room, shutting the door behind him.

    “Sorry about today. I don’t know what came over me and I feel really bad for the things I said.” Keith spoke before Shiro could even open his mouth. He was given a soft smile from the man, who walked over and sat next to him on the floor.

    “Thank you for apologising, Keith. I understand you have trouble with impulse and saying things you don’t mean. That doesn’t make it okay, but I understand. I did speak to Coran like I said I would, and he said that you guys could talk about it during your next session with him. Does that sound okay?” Keith nodded, sighing softly. Shiro gave him a gentle pat on his shoulder, before standing and walking to the door.

    “Do you want takeout for dinner? I heard from Adam that today’s been rough.” Shiro asked, turning back to look at Keith while opening the door. Keith nodded with a smile, and Shiro smiled back before leaving the room, shutting the door behind him. Dinner wouldn’t be for a few more hours, but Keith would be spending those hours doing homework and then relaxing more. With a huff, he gently patted Kosmo and the dog crawled off of him so he could sit up, standing to go sit at his desk. He grabbed his bag and pulled out his folder, pulling out all the things he needed and setting them on the desk. Keith then grabbed a pencil from his pencil cup and hunched over the desk, beginning to work on the first assignment in front of him.
