Contains entries for Zach, Claire, Gallagher, Yvanova, Judith, Pierre, and four of Heaven’s military branches: the Legions, the Navy, the Exterminators, and the Daemon Guard.
Chapter Text
Zachariah Rén Xavier
Type: Saint/Human-born angel.
Earth Origin: Canada.
Affiliations: Daemon Guard.
Relationships: Claire Ezekiel (best friend, sister-in-arms), Seamus Gallagher (friend, superior, brother-in-arms), Iryna Yvanova (friend, superior, sister-in-arms), Judith Osborne (enemy by affiliation), Pierre Fournier (enemy by affiliation), Adam (enemy by affiliation), Lute (enemy by affiliation), Archangel Michael (acquaintance).
Personality Traits: Passive, observant, analytical.
Likes: Games, psychological studies, stopping to smell the roses.
Dislikes: Politics, unnecessary violence, the corruption in Heaven.
Description: A bookworm and a strong silent type at heart, Zach is quite an unassuming and simple saint at first glance. He can come off as a bit of a fun-vacuum and prefers to negotiate and solve problems through diplomacy if possible. However, he is extremely loyal to any of his good friends and allies and he possesses a certain bravery under fire and familiarity with violence unusual for someone of his humble upbringing…
Brief History: Despite some controversial actions in the last moments of his life, Zach has received his chance to undergo the Purgatory Program to enter Heaven, in which he passed with flying colors. Originally without aim, he eventually decided to join a military branch of Heaven to help protect the realm and undergo a fresh experience. This turn of events would cause him to meet and make friends with Claire Ezekiel, leading to a fight against her enemies Pierre Fournier and Judith Osborne, making enemies of the two and the rest of the Exorcists. Getting introduced to Seamus Gallagher and full induction into the Daemon Guard came shortly afterwards.
Zach loyally fought alongside the rest of Daemon Guard against inter-dimensional invaders while helping Iryna Yvanova and Claire counter Adam and his schemes for a considerable amount of time. However, when Iryna disappeared, he and Claire embarked together on an espionage mission to Fortress Michael to discover the culprits behind her death and several other disappearances. He protested as an enraged Claire and a good portion of the Daemon Guard used illegal weaponry on the fortress garrison, causing a political hurricane. Ultimately however, he still considered Claire a good friend and was willing to sacrifice much for her sake, even his place in Heaven. He always felt a stronger affinity towards Hell anyways.
Claire Noah Ezekiel
Type: Heaven-born angel.
Affiliations: Exterminators (formerly), Daemon Guard.
Relationships: Zach Xavier (best friend, brother-in-arms), Seamus Gallagher (friend, superior, brother-in-arms), Iryna Yvanova (friend, superior, sister-in-arms), Judith Osborne (enemy, former sister-in-arms), Pierre Fournier (enemy, former brother-in-arms), Adam (enemy, former superior), Lute (enemy, former superior), Archangel Michael (acquaintance).
Personality: Inquisitive, impulsive, peppy.
Likes: History and social studies of humans and demons, her family and friends, exploring new things.
Dislikes: Being treated differently, Adam and his Exterminators, the reactionary and hypocritical landscape of Heaven.
Description: Unlike most Heaven-born, Claire has always been a troublemaker and progressive like the rest of her family. She is always eager to meet new people and undertake new experiences—particularly those not strictly relating to angelic culture. She is quite headstrong and vengeful when under conflict and is considerably skilled at scrapping with her fists and using her oral skills to sway others to her proposals.
Brief History: Having tried out being an Exorcist “just because”, she ended up saving a demon during her first Extermination which resulted in her learning that they weren’t inherently monsters but just another world of people. This fraternizing was unacceptable to the other Exorcists who killed her new demon friends (and a crush) the next year which led to her developing a full hatred for Heaven’s system. This all led to her starting a fire inside Fortress Michael in retaliation and deserting shortly afterwards.
On the run for several days, she then attempted to join up with the Exterminators’ known rivals, the Daemon Guard, for safety. By doing so, she met several soon-to-be-friends, including Zach Xavier, Seamus Gallagher, and Iryna Yvanova and entered her new place in life. Adam’s unsuccessful attempts to silence her led to the aftermath of the infamous Ezekiel Exterminator Scandal, including armed engagements, assassinations, and the shifting of the balance of power from the Exterminators to the Daemon Guard. In the end, her impulsiveness unnecessarily got Zach banished to Hell and she is unable to stop regretting her actions.
Seamus Jack Gallagher
Type: Saint/Human-born angel.
Earth Origin: British-occupied Ireland.
Affiliations: Daemon Guard.
Relationships: Zach Xavier (friend, subordinate, brother-in-arms), Claire Ezekiel (friend, subordinate, sister-in-arms), Iryna Yvanova (friend, superior, sister-in-arms), Judith Osborne (enemy by affiliation), Pierre Fournier (enemy by affiliation), Adam (enemy by affiliation), Lute (enemy by affiliation).
Personality Traits: Eager, dedicated, tenacious.
Likes: Brandy, dancing, a good bar fight.
Dislikes: Imperialists, snakes, brainwashing propaganda.
Description: A cheerful lad to party with and an eager fighter on the battlefield. Seamus will gladly throw down and/or take hits for his friends, as long as they weren’t doing anything stupid. He has seen firsthand the disaster that could follow hubris and instigation of trouble, and prefers not to sow problems where there aren’t any. He can be quite a colorful curser however.
Brief History: Once a young rebel, he was killed before firing a shot during the Irish War of Independence against Britain in the wake of the end of World War I. His desire for action led him to enlist in the Daemon Guard not long after his arrival in Heaven. He would become fairly close with Iryna Yvanova when she joined his platoon two decades later. He preferred simpler grunt work and rejected serious commanding positions for many centuries, leading to Iryna eventually outranking him.
He was the recruiter who welcomed Zach Xavier and Claire Ezekiel into the Daemon Guard, leading to the group’s involvement in the Ezekiel Exterminator Scandal. When a fight broke out between Exterminators and Guard in the Drink of Judas club, he was in the thick of it and was the biggest contributor to knocked out enemies. After Iryna’s death, he protested alongside Zach as Claire and some vengeful Guards laid waste to Fortress Michael. After these events, he finally accepted the promotions he had stacked up to try to uphold Iryna’s memory.
Iryna Andriyivna Yvanova
Type: Saint/Human-born angel.
Earth Origin: The Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic.
Affiliations: Daemon Guard.
Relationships: Zach Xavier (friend, subordinate, brother-in-arms), Claire Ezekiel (friend, subordinate, sister-in-arms), Seamus Gallagher (friend, subordinate, brother-in-arms), Judith Osborne (enemy by affiliation), Pierre Fournier (enemy by affiliation), Adam (enemy by affiliation), Lute (enemy by affiliation).
Personality Traits: Stoic, Caring, Selfless.
Likes: Reading novels, peace and quiet, caring for her fellow Guards.
Dislikes: Dictators, war hawks, and anybody who abuses power.
Description: In a military force that faces the worst beings making Heaven their target, Iryna is the leader you want to look up to. She operates on a delicate but successful balance of keeping her men and women as safe and comfortable as possible while maximizing their efficiency. She will fight and protest for what’s right and give care and advice to anybody who needs it.
Brief History: Iryna lived a miserable short life and bore witness to the Holodomer and the full-scale destruction of Operation Barbarossa, dying in Kiev from German bombs while working as a nurse. Her intentions to retire to a peaceful life were dashed when she learned about the Daemon Guard’s active role in protecting Heaven. Despite having two decades less experience than Seamus Gallagher, her natural ability to lead and hard work allowed her to climb the ranks relatively quickly.
She has held distrust towards the Exterminator paramilitary from the very beginning due to her previous experiences with power-hungry leaders, but the indiscriminate killing policies of Adam’s Angels being particularly controversial in the human-born angel population made her one of their most vocal critics. When the Ezekiel Exterminator Scandal came to light and Claire Ezekiel joined the Guard along with Zach Xavier, Iryna immediately looked for and seized opportunities to fight against Adam’s power. Despite some early missteps, she successfully used Claire’s scandal combined with Zach’s advice to capture an Exterminator-related incident which would begin their downfall. This has caused Adam to mark her for death, however.
Judith Osborne
Type: Heaven-born angel.
Affiliations: Exterminators.
Relationships: Zach Xavier (enemy by affiliation), Claire Ezekiel (enemy, former sister-in-arms), Seamus Gallagher (enemy by affiliation), Iryna Yvanova (enemy by affiliation), Pierre Fournier (friend, brother-in-arms), Adam (superior), Lute (superior, sister-in-arms).
Personality Traits: Histrionic, unforgiving, zealous.
Likes: Slaying demons, being the center of attention, making fun of the “unenlightened”.
Dislikes: Demons, humans, and “the radical filth poisoning Heaven”.
Description: The epitome of a stereotypical teacher’s pet for Heaven’s outdated values, Judith has been taught one simple fact: angels above all. She sees herself as a prime model of this mentality, and makes sure that everybody around her does as well. Predictably, she looks down upon all other types of beings, from imps to human-born angels, with equal distaste and distrust whether it is deserved or not.
Brief History: Hailing from an influentially weak but devoted family, she has aspired most of her life to furthering Heaven’s conservative goals, culminating in her joining the Exterminators. During her time, she has quickly racked up one of the highest body count averages in the whole force, and enjoys the attention she received from such a feat.
However, when Claire Ezekiel became an Exorcist as well, Judith dropped her attention seeking in favor of making Claire’s life a living Hell. This stemmed from her and her family’s hatred for the Ezekiel family and their radical mentalities. Judith along with Pierre Fournier became Claire’s worst bullies and the three have gotten into shouting matches and physical fights more than once. In addition, the two bullies were the ones who discovered Claire’s demon fraternizing which would be key to igniting the Ezekiel Exterminator Scandal. Claire certainly never forgot about Judith, and always looked for a more decisive way to end their feuding.
Pierre Fournier
Type: Heaven-born angel.
Affiliations: Exterminators.
Relationships: Zach Xavier (enemy by affiliation), Claire Ezekiel (enemy, former sister-in-arms), Seamus Gallagher (enemy by affiliation), Iryna Yvanova (enemy by affiliation), Judith Osborne (friend, sister-in-arms), Adam (superior), Lute (superior, sister-in-arms).
Personality Traits: Narcissistic, sadistic, perverted.
Likes: Slaying demons, hitting on anybody he finds attractive, committing torture.
Dislikes: Demons, being bored, having his advances rejected.
Description: It is a wonder that he wasn’t born in the darkest alley of Lust, as he would fit that location quite well. He cares for little beyond his own desires and will make it known to anybody he finds pretty enough regardless of gender and even age. He is the type of person that will cause most of the other people in the bar to cover their drinks.
Brief History: Having been the favored child of his family, Pierre has never known discipline or punishment, having relied on his wealth and connections to shut such notions down. His reason for joining Adam’s Exterminators stems almost solely from the fact that he believed that the prestige he could gain will give him more luck with his…predatory pursuits. While his extreme behavior attracted much disgust from even the other Exorcists including Judith Orborne, his above-average ability to kill and torture demons prevented Adam from kicking him out.
When Claire Ezekiel joined the Exterminators later on, Pierre ignored her highly-hated views in favor of her beauty, and immediately attempted to make advances on her. Needless to say, Claire certainly did not like this one bit and made it a habit to always aim for his crotch. Even after she rebelled and left the Exorcist ranks, Claire could never forget about him and made sure her new Guard allies always aimed for his weak spot as well.
The Heavenly Legions
Role: Conventional offensive and defensive warfare.
Nicknames/Aliases: Michael’s Sword, The First to Fight.
Notable Members: Archangel Michael (leader), King Lucifer (former leader).
History: The first and original military force of Heaven, the Legions were directly created in response to Hell’s aggressive actions immediately after its creation. Formerly having both Michael and Lucifer as generals, the Legions continued partaking in wars against Hell after Lucifer’s fall. However, after the peace between the two worlds and the creation of the Exterminators and the Daemon Guard. The Legions have fallen into obscurity due to lack of service along with the Heavenly Navy.
Description: In all past and possible future wars against Hell, the Heavenly Legions are the conventional forces bearing the brunt of combat actions. These actions include emergency defense to supplement the Daemon Guard, basic military policing until specialized Guardian Angels can take over, and all planned offensive actions within Hell. They, like most of the armed groups, consist mostly of Heaven-born angels. In terms of doctrine and technology, they have not seen action in thousands of years and it is shown in the fact that they are mostly equipped with medieval weapons and use sloppy mass wave tactics and concentrated marching formations. In recent years, they have been taking tips from the Daemon Guard to try and modernize with better firearms and contemporary tactics, but they have a long way to go to reach the standards of most demon and human armies.
The Heavenly Navy
Role: Transportation, fire support, air superiority, and logistics for the Heavenly Legions.
Nicknames/Aliases: The Arks, Raphael’s Rescue Boats.
History: When the Heavenly Legions engaged in their first combat actions, problems quickly arose involving the need for better fire support and more efficient transport of men and supplies. This resulted in the creation of a fleet of airborne ships with their own command structure to coordinate with and support the legions with fast and high-capacity transport as well as concentrated arrow and eventually cannonade fire. Along with the Legions, their lack of use since the peace with Hell caused them to fall into a severely weakened and outdated state unfit for today’s warfare.
Description: By human terms, the Heavenly Navy can best be described as an airborne navy. Their ships are not restricted to water and instead use the whole sky as their sea, allowing coverage on a scale no different than any air force. However, the large vessels of the Navy can hardly be compared to aircraft, instead taking on roles no different than the battleships, cruisers, destroyers, and frigates of normal waterborne navies. While their ships have evolved through the ages from wooden designs to metal ones, they are in the same boat as the Legions in terms of technological and doctrinal inferiority compared to nearly all human and demonic navies. They have commissioned the services of naval and aerial expects from the Daemon Guard to attempt modernization. However, predominant thoughts such as the perceived inferiority of the human concepts of submarines and aircraft carriers have made progress sluggish.
The Exterminators
Role: Expeditionary annual demon population culling force.
Nicknames/Aliases: Adam’s Angels, God’s Whip, Demons in Angels’ Clothing.
Notable Members: Claire Ezekiel (formerly), Judith Osborne, Pierre Fournier, Lute, Adam (leader).
History: When the issue of Hell’s overpopulation has become enough of a problem to warrant a response from Heaven, the realm’s officials bickered heavily over the issue. Eventually, Adam proposed a systematic form of killing which would achieve a population balance inexpensively without necessitating a war or allowing the problem to grow. Throughout the centuries from that point on, they have done their indiscriminate work on the Pride Ring with little doctrinal or technological change all while using their independence and resources to paint themselves as the greatest heroes who have ever lived. Naturally, this strained their relationship with the other branches, particularly the Daemon Guard.
Description: The Exterminators are an independent paramilitary force controlled by Adam with little strings attached to the big shots of Heaven. This high level of autonomy compared to the rest of Heaven’s armed forces have allowed them to devote significant resources to building up their own image. They have the highest concentration of propaganda, funding, and recruitment numbers which have all served to bolster their ability to fulfill their active role in Heaven. On the other hand, their high favor in Heaven’s politics has lead to the other branches of the military to hold severe disdain for them, particularly the Daemon Guard whose members see Exorcists as genocide-committing husks of living creatures. In addition, the force of Exorcists is rampant with corruption and nepotism and is not built for serious combat, possessing mostly bladed weapons and bows. While this is enough for killing disorganized crowds of demons, the career soldiers of Heaven see them as nothing more than paper tigers, and quite a few are itching for a fight to humble them.
The Daemon Guard
Role: Heaven’s home and border defense force.
Nicknames/Aliases: Heaven’s Custodians, The Diamonds in the Rough, The Unrecognized.
Notable Members: Zach Xavier, Claire Ezekiel, Seamus Gallagher, Iryna Yvanova.
History: The wars between Heaven to Hell as well as their competing influence over Earth has made the whole region an attractive target for distant foreign, alien, and inter-dimensional powers—particularly the world-eating daemons (separate from demons) who hunger greatly for angelic power, demonic slaves, and human flesh. While fending them off was originally fulfilled by the Legions and Navy, Lucifer’s rebellion changed everything and all Heaven-born soldiers were diverted to fight against it while human-born saints were forcefully conscripted and formed into an ad-hoc formation to plug the gap on the foreign threats. After its birth, the Daemon Guard worked dutifully, attracting the services of the saints and few Heaven-born angels who could see past the propaganda about the Exterminators and the meaningless conflict with Hell.
Description: As the only armed group in Heaven that is mostly made up of former humans, the Daemon Guard naturally thinks and acts differently from its peers. They receive little attention from the Heaven-born dominated politicians and public sectors which is beneficial in terms of unleashed development and evolution but detrimental in terms of recruitment and general public awareness. Unlike the Heavenly Legions and Navy which have fallen into disuse and the Exterminators who kill rather than fight for a living, the Guard has seen consistent service and action for its entire existence. This experience combined with the willingness of the saints to innovate and adapt has made the Guard undeniably the most modern and capable fighting force in Heaven. A large percentage of the force consists of former human soldiers from all eras of warfare, including the era of armored and airborne weapons eagerly used in the present. They have a good relationship with the Heavenly Legions and Navy in which they willingly offer support to help their fellow branches update. On the other hand, their poor relationship with the Exterminators is one of the most infamous in Heaven: no less than a full blown rivalry involving subversion and deception.
Chapter 2: Zero, Zero, Antihero Act 2 Dossiers
Summary:
Contains entries for Zach after falling and becoming a Kingpin, Shax, Roland, Sieve, Sierra, Barley, Helmut, Jake, James, Ánh, and the Emerald Militia.
Chapter Text
Kingpin Zach
Type: Fallen angel/Former saint.
Affiliations: Emerald Militia (leader).
Relationships: Lucifer Morningstar (acquaintance), Grand Marquis Shax (acquaintance), Queen Bee-lzebub (friend, business partner), Vortex Vought (friend), Roland Patelli (friend, employee), Sieve Strobo (friend, employee), Siri Wheatgrass (friend, employee), Barley Wheatgrass (friend), Helmut Fennel (friend, employee), Jake Fennel (friend), Overlord Rosie (cordial), Overlord Alastor (neutral), Overlord Velvette (cordial), Overlord Valentino (neutral), Overlord Vox (neutral), Cherri Bomb (cordial), Sir Pentious (cordial).
Personality Traits: Fair, benevolent, humble.
Likes: Stability, being underestimated, Hell’s colorful culture.
Dislikes: Traffickers, wild goose chases, insane fans.
Description: As a Kingpin, Zach takes a much more soft-handed approach to his territory than practically all others. He treats all his employees and residents as good friends and neighbors rather than subjects, and actively invests into social programs and civil development to earn their loyalty. On the other hand, he understands the value of a big stick and will not hesitate to use brutal military force to deter and defeat his rivals.
Brief History: Immediately after falling to Hell, Zach quickly caught the attention of Lucifer, who learned that the two had a fair bit more in common than other fallen angels. The King, feeling generous, directed Zach to Grand Marquis Shax for refuge. On Shax’s proposal, Zach then went out and took out a minor trafficking Kingpin, claiming his territory as his new home.
The fallen angel would then start building up his land with a cautious velvet glove, meeting Roland Patelli by chance and later using Shax’s employment services to hire Sieve Strobo, Siri Wheatgrass, and Helmut Fennel as employees. In addition, he has established decent relations with his powerful neighbors Rosie and Velvette on either side of him. On the other hand, his two minor Kingpin neighbors were not as friendly, and Zach was forced to use armed force to destroy them in a spectacular two-front lightning offensive. Things seemed to calm down after that, but various rumors are coming up that a bigger player is plotting the fallen angel’s downfall.
Grand Marquis Shax Goetia
Type: Goetian Demon.
Affiliations: The Ars Goetia.
Relationships: Lucifer Morningstar (king), Kingpin Zach (acquaintance), Paimon Goetia (neutral), Stolas Goetia (friend), Stella Goetia (neutral), Octavia Goetia (friend).
Personality Traits: Workaholic, mean flirter, chaos-embracing.
Likes: Stealing things (especially horses) for people, throwing direct insults, his solitude.
Dislikes: Not speaking his mind, most other Goetia, those assholes up in Heaven.
Description: Being one of the more powerful Goetia, Shax has more liberty when it comes to his public image and opinions. He lives a more lonely life and career and rather enjoys conversing with any of the visitors to his library and employment offices. He is secretly quite mischievous and while he keeps his beak shut in public like the other politicians, he is quite willing to share his true opinions and gossip with those he trusts.
Brief History: One of the more ancient beings in Hell, he has lived through most of the realm’s history ever since Lucifer’s fall. His first assigned role essentially made him Hell’s ultimate quartermaster and minister of resources. He did his job perfectly, but reports started flowing in that he was accepting commissions from Overlords and other Goetia to steal items and living capital from their rivals. The high council of the Ars Goetia decided this had too much room for abuse and barred him from thievery ever again, relocating him to a new role on the process.
Shax now controls the most prestigious employment system in Hell, making sure that all of the nobility were full on loyal servants and guards. He was good at this job as well. Too good. Boredom threatened him and he started going beyond his role to give any demon work that suits them, merely to help occupy himself. While not intentional, this new habit helped out a lot of people in Hell, including that one imp couple he directed towards that budding assassination business. He still misses stealing stuff, however…
Roland Aiello Patelli
Type: Imp.
Hell Origin: Greed Ring.
Affiliations: Mammonian Infiltrators (formerly).
Relationships: Zach Xavier (friend, employer), Sieve Strobo (friend, coworker), Siri Wheatgrass (friend, coworker), Barley (friend), Helmut Fennel (friend, coworker), Jake Fennel (friend).
Personality Traits: Opportunistic, gambler, sly.
Likes: Not being in debt, stable incomes, his mother.
Dislikes: His home Ring, loansharks, his father.
Description: Roland, or “Rolo” as his friends call him, is skilled at spotting and seizing opportunities in favor of material gain, no different than most other residents of Greed. In addition, he can be a nasty hustler and cheater when it comes to games involving bets. He is not heartless, however. He loves his mother deeply and can be quite protective of those who have earned his trust.
Brief History: Fate was not kind to him, as his father racked himself up a massive debt before cowardly committing suicide and dumping his debt onto his wife and newborn child in the process. Roland would experience a difficult life with him and his single mother slipping further and further into poverty. At a young age, he enlisted into the local armed forces and became a Mammonian Infiltrator, who had high pay at the time due to a large gang waging war on Mammon’s assets. When this gang was destroyed and the military funding was cut again, Roland left—although he took advantage of the skills he learned to steal and scam in order to keep himself and his mother afloat.
He eventually developed enough of a reputation to warrant his relocation to Pride for his new hunting grounds. Here, he attempted to steal blessed bullets from Zach, who caught him red-handed before letting him go with a pity prize out of sympathy for him and his mother. Roland did not forget this, and tracked down Zach later on to look for a potentially profitable relationship. Zach accepted some advice from him and then offered him financial work after taking Kingpin Chainius’ territory minutes later. Roland accepted Zach’s offer and the fallen angel’s generous pay lifted the imp and his mother out of debt in several short months, something which he won’t be forgetting anytime soon.
Sieve Hexus Strobo
Type: Baphomet.
Hell Origin: Sloth Ring.
Affiliations: Slothian Research Society (formerly).
Relationships: Belphegor (former employe), Tim Magnus (friend), Waxi Propos (friend, former coworker), Zach Xavier (friend, employer), Roland Patelli (friend, coworker), Siri Wheatgrass (friend, coworker), Barley (friend), Helmut Fennel (friend, coworker), Jake Fennel (friend).
Personality Traits: Aloof, careless, ambitious.
Likes: Outdoing others’ work, experimenting, being recognized for his efforts.
Dislikes: Any form of immediate danger, wild animals, his ignored achievements.
Description: An educated egghead who enjoys his work more than most, Sieve is quite unimpeded and aggressive over his ambitions and love for experimentation. He doesn’t care much for social interaction and most would perceive him as a cold and eccentric asshole. Perhaps this is partially true, but he is still extremely useful for his variety of skills.
Brief History: Little Sieve was not like most of the other Slothians. He did not believe in laziness or settling on a technology as “good enough”. All his life, he worked hard to make advances in the fields of pharmacology, mechanical, and digital technology. While his habits have alienated many other people, including his own family, and created an equal number of enemies, they also attracted the positive attention of Belphegor who gave him work in research and development.
However, he ended up being too ambitious, even for Belphegor. Several incidents happened including a particularly infamous one involving a bouncing bomb which nearly caused a nuclear meltdown, though he may claim otherwise and say that he saved the day. Regardless, this was too much for Belphegor and she immediately let him go. Sieve was forced to hide out in the wilderness from his dozens of enemies for several weeks before Kingpin Zach came around looking for a technical expert. To this day, Zach considers hiring Sieve to be “the most annoying thing he has ever forced himself to do down here in Hell.”
Sierra Theresa Wheatgrass & Barley
Type: Imp and her loyal quieve.
Hell Origin: Wrath Ring.
Affiliations: Wrathian Riflemen (formerly), Emerald Militia.
Relationships: Zach Xavier (friend, employer), Roland Patelli (friend, coworker), Sieve Strobo (friend, coworker), Helmut Fennel (friend, coworker), Jake Fennel (friend).
Personality Traits: Peacekeeping, loyal, dutiful.
Likes: Their strong bond, wide open spaces, the thrill of killing.
Dislikes: Flaming twisters, bandits, being separated from each other.
Description: Coming from a simple upbringing in Wrath, there is little Siri and Barley value more than each other and freedom in their life. On one hand, they exhibit great hospitality and loyalty to any friends and family they have. On the other, they are very familiar with Wrathian levels of violence and can be a nasty nightmare for their enemies.
Brief History: Siri lived a simple and humble life in Wrath with her parents, grandparents, several brothers and sisters, and Barley. They were just another farm family whom, while not large or rich, were capable of keeping themselves afloat. Tragedy struck however, when a massive flaming twister ripped straight through their home, killing everyone but Siri and Barley who were out hunting hell-yotes at the time.
With nothing left at their home, and with few other skills, the imp and quieve enlisted in the Wrathian Armed Forces for income and a roof over their heads. Many months later, Siri heard through word of mouth about Kingpin Zach and his budding Emerald Militia, which offered much more enticing benefits, protection, and pay. It was a hard choice, but the two left for Pride to join the EM. As a result, life for them became quite a bit more bearable. Later on, the two would catch the direct attention of Zach when he prepared to begin attacks on his Kingpin neighbors to consolidate himself.
Helmut Leon Fennel & Jake Zooma Fennel
Type: Hellhounds.
Hell Origin: Gluttony Ring.
Affiliations: Emerald Militia (Helmut only).
Relationships: Zach Xavier (friend, employer), Roland Patelli (friend, coworker), Sieve Strobo (friend, coworker), Siri Wheatgrass (friend, coworker), Barley (friend).
Personality Traits: Protective, warm, soft/Playful, excitable, innocent.
Likes: Freedom, fresh meat, playing tag and fetch.
Dislikes: Splinters, loud traffic, their old lives as slaves.
Description: German Shepherd is as German Shepherd does. Helmut, despite his large stature, is a very nice and caring friend. His devotion to them is endless, and he is very efficient and experienced at protecting them. He is even more of a softie and an excellent father to the adorable and playful Jake, who loves him back equally. Jake is about what you’d expect from a pup who has retained more of his innocence than most others.
Brief History: During a time when Queen Bee-lzebub was much more bigoted and complicit in the practice of hellhound slavery, Helmut and his then-pregnant wife had the misfortune of running into financial troubles which forced them to sell themselves into indentured servitude at a local Goetian household. Jake was born soon after this and Helmut’s wife later died of complications, leaving the father and son which only each other to depend on.
A few years later, Bee’s new engagement to Vortex significantly changed her lifestyle and stance on hellhounds, causing her to fully abolish the practice of slavery in her Ring, freeing Helmut and Jake in the blink of an eye. After some heavy inquiring, Helmut found out that Bee’s actions were heavily influenced by a meeting between her and Kingpin Zach. The hellhound would never forget what the fallen angel did for him and his son, and he immediately met up with him for a job and permanent residence in the Kingpin’s territory.
James Robert Burton
Type: Saint/Human-born angel.
Earth Origin: The United States of America.
Affiliations: Daemon Guard.
Relationships: Claire Ezekiel (fiancée, sister-in-arms), Seamus Gallagher (friend, superior, brother-in-arms), Ánh Phan (friend, sister-in-arms).
Personality Traits: Wise, reminiscent, soft-spoken.
Likes: Those who are actually tolerant, studying philosophy, birdwatching.
Dislikes: Racists, getting stuck in the past, how self-absorbed most angels are.
Description: To put it simply, James is a very compassionate and non-judgmental man. You can vent about all of your frustrations and woes and he will never stop listening. You can discuss all of the horrible things you have done or wish you did and he will keep it secret. He savors recognition and respect as an equal being and returns it kindly to those who provide it to him first.
Brief History: How ironic is it that the “United” States went into the Great War with a segregated army? Even going so far as to ditch most of their black troops for the French to command. This irony was not lost on James when he enlisted and fought for his country. He fought bravely on the Western Front in the 369th and survived the war with no injuries. However, racial tensions back in America did not change and his life would be taken by it mere days after returning home.
James was initially optimistic about his new life in Heaven; a hope which was quickly dashed when he fought out that Heaven-born angels were often even worse than the people he encountered back on Earth. Frustrated, he found and enlisted in the Daemon Guard to be with those who are more like him. He has moved around their ranks quite a lot, meeting and making friends with all kinds of other saints. Things got interesting however, when James met Claire at the Drink of Judas club for the first time. A few conversations later, and the two were now engaged. Perhaps there is hope for Heaven-born angels after all!
Phan Thị Ánh
Type: Saint/Human-born angel.
Earth Origin: Vietnam.
Affiliations: Daemon Guard.
Relationships: Claire Ezekiel (friend, sister-in-arms), James Burton (friend, brother-in-arms), Seamus Gallagher (friend, superior, brother-in-arms).
Personality Traits: Feisty, supportive, optimistic.
Likes: Hikes in the wilderness, trying new foods, Heaven’s perfect weather.
Dislikes: Hypocrites of any form, needles, liars.
Description: Ánh is a dependable and reliable Guard to be friends with. She is the one that will drive your drunk ass home from a party even if you live several hours away. She is excellent at reading moods and body language to prevent a conversation from becoming uncomfortable. She can also spot traps, scams, and lies a world away and will give her friends a heads up about them.
Brief History: From the Chinese, to the French, to the Japanese, and back to the French again, the Indochinese region has known nothing but subjugation. When the Vietnam War broke out, Ánh rose to the occasion to prevent her homeland from becoming a colony again. Unfortunately for her, she perished though not in combat, but rather by falling into one of her side’s own traps due to a lack of sleep.
Ánh, despite seeing the way that Heaven was segregated, enjoyed her afterlife more fiercely than most—seeing sights and trying new treats and experiences that her rural upbringing would not have been able to afford. The conflicts between the realm’s armed forces however, completely escaped her notice for several decades. It was only when a bar fight between Guards and Exorcists was highly publicized that she even learned about the Guards’ existence. Seeing the appeal of protecting Heaven and sticking it to the Exterminators, she enlisted and was in basic training when the Ezekiel Exterminator Scandal ended.
The Emerald Militia
Role: Pursual of the military interests of Kingpin Zach and later Overlord Zero.
Nicknames/Aliases: The Gems of Pride, the Beacon’s Brigades, the Green Dragons.
Notable Members: Zach Xavier (leader), Siri Wheatgrass, Helmut Fennel.
History: As an up-and-coming Turfie, Zach quickly found the need to form a group to uphold order and defend his newly-gained land. Channeling his experience and limited officer training prior to his fall, he delicately created a volunteer-only force which would be given the best benefits, pay, training, and equipment he could scrounge up. Having them guard his territory was child’s play, but their true test arrived when the fallen angel decided that he needed to eliminate his hostile neighbors Chainius and Bindington. Separated into two halves with Zach commanding one and Siri commanding the other, and reinforced with Slothian-designed armored vehicles, the EM proved itself extremely effective and both enemy Kingpins’ territories were effectively steamrolled.
Description: A private military force formed by Kingpin Zach, the EM consists of volunteers from the fallen angel’s territory or its surrounding lands. It mainly consists of sinners, but has sizable amounts of demons of nearly all classes from all Rings. Most of their training is personally overseen by Zach, and all of their equipment is modernized, standardized and sourced from Hell’s military industries desperate for business. Zach is harsh on corruption, double-dealing, and nepotism and it shows in the methods he takes to keep it to a minimum in his force. In practice, the EM proves itself to be well-organized, coherent, and highly motivated. They are trained in all forms of tactics and doctrines ranging from elastic defense to combined arms spearheads. The force has quickly earned the attention and praise of Hell’s official militaries, and compared to the private armies of other Kingpins and Overlords, it is undoubtedly one of the most professional.

Chapter Text
Overlord Zero
Type: Fallen angel/Former saint/Overlord.
Affiliations: Emerald Militia (leader), Seven Ring Volunteers (leader), Hell’s Society of Overlords.
Relationships: The Corsair Overlord (mortal enemy), Lucifer Morningstar (friend), Grand Marquis Shax (friend), Queen Bee-lzebub (friend, business partner), Vortex Vought (friend), Doctor Belphegor (friend, business partner), Roland Patelli (friend, employee), Sieve Strobo (friend, employee), Siri Wheatgrass (friend, employee), Barley (friend), Helmut Fennel (friend, employee), Jake Fennel (friend), Liz Fismes (friend, employee), Overlord Rosie (friend), Overlord Alastor (cordial), Overlord Velvette (friend), Overlord Valentino (neutral), Overlord Vox (neutral), Cherri Bomb (friend), Sir Pentious (friend).
Personality Traits: Determined, charismatic, merciless when threatened.
Likes: His familial subjects, children, finally making something of his afterlife.
Dislikes: Pirates, mercenaries, the damn Corsair.
Description: Despite being easy to misjudge due to his quiet nature and generosity, Zach is still a former soldier and an experienced killer at heart. Deep down, he has his reasons and motives to be able to master Hell as an Overlord so quickly and with minimal effort. While he is certainly a true saint to his allies, friends, family, and subjects, he can and will dip into his dark side and become a true horror to his worst enemies.
Brief History: After months of successful diplomacy, profitable trade deals, and successful wars, Zach Xavier has established his place in Hell. His rise to power was impressively quick, starting when he became a Kingpin by eliminating Chainius, and ending with him achieving Overlord status by taking out two more Kingpins simultaneously. He now has full dominion over a sizable chunk of territory between the Three Vs’ and Cannibal Clique territories newly named as the Beacon for its lower crime rate and higher standard of living.
Things took an interesting turn however, when Zach participated in his first Overlord Assembly. He met face to face with the Corsair Overlord, who was not happy with the newcomer angel coming in and taking out his three most important assets in Pentagram City. Zach, not a fan of pirates and traffickers, fired back and the two declared war on each other by word. The fallen angel took some of the Corsair’s insults and applied it to heart, adopting the moniker “Zero” as his new Overlord name in dedication of his greatest rivalry yet. The Corsair and the Zero have now made contact, and only one can return home intact.
The Corsair Overlord
Type: Sinner/Overlord.
Affiliations: Guild of Fortune Seekers (leader), Hell’s Society of Overlords.
Relationships: Overlord Zero (mortal enemy), Roland Patelli (enemy), Sieve Strobo (enemy), Siri Wheatgrass (enemy), Barley (enemy), Helmut Fennel (enemy), Jake Fennel (enemy), Liz Fismes (enemy), Overlord Rosie (neutral), Overlord Alastor (neutral), Overlord Velvette (neutral), Overlord Valentino (cordial), Overlord Vox (neutral).
Personality Traits: Heartless, self-serving, greedy.
Likes: His riches, his armies, his concubines.
Dislikes: When others mess with his riches, armies, and concubines.
Description: The Corsair is the epitome of brutality and full fortune-seeking piracy. Perhaps there was a time back then when he could have been considered a hero in the old world of colonialism and exploitative empires. But now, he is known as among the most selfish Overlords in Hell, caring for little beyond his riches. Maybe he’s not as handsy and abusive as Valentino, but his trafficking empire is the biggest in Pride.
Brief History: It is generally accepted that he was at sea during the Golden Age of Piracy, though whether he was a captain or a simple crewman is unknown. Regardless, when he first came to Hell, he found success in gathering up like-minded sinners and created an organization to gain power and money through raiding others. Utilizing a system of a mobile and elusive base of command, he and his subordinates avoided destruction from angry Overlords and nobility, but were not quite able to rise to their level.
Things took a turn however, when the first man-made technologies of blimps and dirigibles were introduced to Hell. The Corsair eagerly adopted and built his own designs, mirroring the concept of a fleet of ships in a Ring with no large bodies of water. With airships as their new strongholds and methods of transportation, the sinner’s empire took off and he expanded greatly into the trafficking, laundering, and drug trades, becoming an Overlord practically overnight. Today, he lied satisfied in his mother airship when reports of a large outpost of his in Pentagram City being wiped out reached him. Naturally, he planned to remove this interloper promptly—though perhaps he should have read the memo that declaring war on a former soldier is tantamount to suicide.
Elizabeth Macy Fismes
Type: Imp-Succubus mix.
Hell Origin: Lust Ring.
Affiliations: League of Ozzie’s Finest (temporary leave).
Relationships: Asmodeus (former employer), Zach Xavier (friend, employer), Roland Patelli (friend, coworker), Sieve Strobo (friend, coworker), Siri Wheatgrass (friend, coworker), Barley (friend), Helmut Fennel (friend, coworker), Jake Fennel (friend).
Personality Traits: Uplifting, indulgent, cheerful.
Likes: Bee’s parties, chill coworkers, the wealth of Zach’s Beacon.
Dislikes: Paparazzi, Valentino’s doctrine of Lust, Sieve’s idiocy.
Description: She is quite an energetic and fun person to embark on pleasurable activities with and is willing to indulge the more intimate desires of anyone close to her, regardless of gender. In the workplace, she is quite a bit more serious, and can be counted on to get things done. In the end, everybody close to her has varying good things to say which range from SFW to everything else. Don’t expect her to hang around when freaky cameramen and reporters come looking for stories though.
Brief History: Not unusual in Lust, Liz was born with both incubus/succubus and imp blood. She lived a fairly modest life, juggling the pursuit of happiness with jobs as necessary to make ends meet. Her heritage means that she does not hunger for as much lustful energy as full-blooded Lust demons, which meant that she excelled more at business and work. This accumulated in her receiving an impressive managerial position in Ozzie’s famous club. However, the accumulating gossip and news about the possible relationship between Asmodeus and Fizzarolli skyrocketed from recent events and caused too much stress for Liz as one of the Sin’s closer employees, and she needed to take a hiatus.
Frustrated at the leeches from the news outlets asking questions about a subject she does not have any real opinion on (let people be with whoever they want, is that even a question?), moving Rings for a while seemed smart enough. Looking for work, Grand Marquis Shax helped refer her to Overlord Zero, who was at war with the Corsair at the moment and was enforcing a full border lockdown on his territory. This lockdown meant that paparazzi were being shot on sight, which really appealed to Liz. Using her people skills, she aced her interviews and quickly got comfortable within Zach’s Beacon.
The Seven Ring Volunteer Group
Role: Emergency volunteer program for supporting Overlord Zero’s war against the Corsair Overlord.
Nicknames/Aliases: The Seven Ringers, Hell’s Rainbow Brigade, the Hope Against Heaven.
Notable Members: Doctor Belphegor (organizer), Queen Bee-lzebub (organizer), Zach Xavier (leader), Tim Magnus, Waxi Propos, Dev Sinti, Andrew Wingo.
History: While concepts and ideas of fully combining Hell’s disparate militaries into single units existed almost as long as Hell has, the differences between the Rings and the lack of a mortal conflict with Heaven have put these ideas to the wayside for a long time. When the volunteer program for Overlord Zero was declared and demons began to answer the call, the resulting Seven Ring Volunteer Group, as it was coined, became the farthest Hell has ever gotten with an ultimate unified demonic force. The popular support for Zero and the Corsair’s demise made a force with unprecedented size and expertise from all over Hell. Official military commanders and observers watched its performance eagerly for lessons and potential until it was disbanded.
Description: Members of the volunteer group include demons of nearly all origins and types. A majority portion consists of simple (or otherwise) civilians ranging from pilots, medical personnel, and engineers to provide relief to eager men and women who have received basic training to reinforce and support the professional soldiers. The minority of the population consists of those with former or current military service, and representatives from all branches and corps from the Seven Rings are present. While the force is theoretically capable of facing any problem, it is not as flexible as it could be and most of its members are internally segregated between common units. Regardless, it shows the potential of a unified Hellish military and many of its unlikely partners have already formed strong bonds with each other.
The King's Prideful Legions
Role: Garrison, military police, propaganda.
Nicknames/Aliases: Lucifer's Finest, Morningstar Marauders, Those Who Shall Return.
History: After Lucifer's fall, creating an army to challenge Heaven was among the first things he did. The legions under his and the Goetias’ control were the first and oldest of their kind, and originally directly designed to challenge and counter the Heavenly Legions. However, the fragile peace and Extermination deal struck with Heaven would cause them to be partially demobilized and much of their formerly universal roles were taken up by the other Sins’ militaries as their specialties.
Branches:
- Hell’s Army of Legionnaires: The core of the power under the employ of Lucifer and the Goetia. Consists of the most ancient and powerful demons whose roots are not from Earth. Few of warring sinners in Pride have ever considered challenging them, and consequently most of their time is spent as police and security, which they have gotten quite good at. However, they are always prepared for a potential incursion from Heaven.
- The Sinner Auxiliary Force: Most of the armed sinners in Hell work in independent militias or mercenary groups. However, an official royal force open to sinners exists as a support and supplementary force to the Hell- and Heaven-born favored Legions. Most younger and hungrier sinners shy away from joining this force, but the Auxiliaries are relatively inviting to old veterans. The force grew by nearly 3000% after the World Wars alone.
- The Morningstar Royal Guard: They are what every Legionnaire dreams to be. The absolute best in Hell and personally trusted by Lucifer, they hold the vital duties of the Morningstars’ security as well as operations against any threats to the safety of the whole realm, no matter how rare or dangerous. A few of their members are former Daemon Guards, whom they hold as their role models as defenders of Pride.
The Wrathian Armed Forces
Role: Direct assault, anti-armor, mobile warfare.
Nicknames/Aliases: Satan’s Spearhead, Banes of Steel, the Heretic Hussars.
History: One of Satan’s greatest pride and joys is the armed forces under his employ. One of the largest and most experienced in Hell, the Wrathian Armed Forces understand and experience war more than anyone else. Their advantage in numbers, high familiarity with violence, and transportations of incredible strength give them a presence and mobility on the battlefield like no other. The horns, sharp teeth, and utilization of anger help too.
Branches:
- The Rifle Organization of Wrath: A massive force of imps, the Rifles are equally useful for fully populating a recently-captured town as they are for wearing down a fortress through sheer volume of fire and bodies. There are units in Hell with more quality, but most of the time, the winner is they who have one soldier with a gun to throw in the ring.
- The Wrathian Ranger Corps: These demons are the ones everyone else wants to lead their assaults. They shy away from infiltration tactics and attack their targets with direct force and firepower instead. They are extremely well-versed with mortars and rocket launchers which they’ll use to remove any obstacle from their path. In a fight between a lone tank and a lone Ranger, the Ranger always wins.
- Satan’s Mounted Hussars: Do not let the name fool you; only 20% of the Hussars are mounted on horses these days. The rest are equipped with motorcycles, half-tracks, and armored cars with an array of heavier weaponry to outmaneuver and cut off the enemy. The mounts and technology may have changed, but the concept of cavalry tactics remained the same for Wrath.
The Brave Hounds of the Bee Queen
Role: General purpose, infiltration assault, logistics.
Nicknames/Aliases: The Demon Dogs, The Fetchers, Hell’s Best-Fed.
History: Despite having arguably the safest seventh of Hell, Queen Bee-lzebub was still obligated to have a stand-by military force to combine with the others in case of conflict. Her force is one of the best-supplied and, probably more importantly, best-fed in Hell. Especially ever since the full crackdown on slavery, the Hounds are extremely loyal, highly motivated, and well tuned to the physical and mental demands of combat.
Branches:
- The Grenadiers of Gluttony: An intimidating force of mostly hellhounds, the sizable Grenadiers perform the bulk of actions for their Ring’s battles. Flexible and decent at offense and defense, they can stay on the field for an extended time due to their generous rations and combat drugs. They are well known for their arsenal of hand-thrown and rifle-launched grenades and tend to sadistically play catch with their enemies.
- The Special Stormtrooper Service: Armed with automatic weapons and flamethrowers, the Stormtroopers are to be highly feared. They operate by finding the weak points in positions and lines and punching their way through them, causing mass casualties and destruction where it is the most impactful. The collapse of enemy organization and morale tends to quickly follow them.
- The Honeycomb Express Corps: Gluttony produces most of Hell’s complete food products, and their experience in distribution translates well into their military logistics. With a massive fleet of trucks, trains, ships, and aircraft, no place is too remote to be supplied. Any mountain can have a tunnel cut through it. Any ocean can be conquered. Any destroyed road can be bypassed by air.
Mammon’s Magnificent Military
Role: Unconventional warfare, amphibious warfare, aerial warfare.
Nicknames/Aliases: The Vicious Vipers, Mammon’s Mincers, the Devilish Dervishes.
History: If Mammon had his way, he wouldn’t have a permanent military force consuming funds and resources from him. However, the sheer chaos of his Ring and willingness of most of its residents to make moves against him necessitated the development of a specialized force. Despite Greed possessing much of the industrial power of Hell, its military is one of the most poorly equipped, leading to its members independently learning how to make the best of their gear and use their enemies’ materials against them.
Branches:
- The Mammonian Infiltration Group: A motley crew of different types of demons naming Greed their home, the Infiltrators are hard rats to catch. Their poor equipment caused them to adapt quickly and become among the best scavengers and salvagers in Hell. They are capable of using anything they can get their hands on and are natural scouts and opportunists. The best snipers in Hell are often Infiltrators.
- The Mammonian Marine Corps: A limited penal force of particularly vicious shark demons, the Marines can tackle any kind of warfare but specialize best with aquatic environments. Despite their limited numbers, they are considered among the best in Hell and are next to unstoppable in amphibious warfare, especially if paired up with Envian naval forces and fire support. However, as penal troops, they fight until their service is up, and rarely come back.
- The Mammonian Dervish Detachments: These pilots and aircrew make up the only truly independent air force in Hell, however this is not because Mammon sees the value of an autonomous aerial force but because he does not care about watching them at all. Regardless, the Dervishes are a popular group for daredevils and air enthusiasts from all over Hell. They are mostly limited to smaller fighters and ground attack aircraft, but have a tiny host of bigger bombers as well.
The Lustian Defensive Forces
Role: Static defense, combat medical support, espionage.
Nicknames/Aliases: Asmodeus’ Wall, the Cherubs of Death, the Three-Form Firecrackers.
History: Heaven does not see Lust as a particularly high-priority target in the case of war, but this did not stop Asmodeus from making sure his Ring is fully safeguarded. As decreed by the Ring Separation Act, his force was to specialize in protracted warfare. In terms of physical violence, Lust remains quite peaceful, and the LDF intends to keep it that way by presenting a defense so well known that it never needs to be put to use.
Branches:
- The Lustian Sentries: The home guard of Lust, the residents making up this force are trained not to give an inch. They are equipped with aged but reliable heavy machine guns and cannons equally effective against flesh, metal, and flying targets. They can create even hardened concrete fortifications in a pinch and booby-trap an entire town with explosive and incendiary traps overnight.
- The Triage Runners of Lust: While Slothian surgeons back home do the more extensive treatments, Lustian Triagers are the ones that allow wounded to survive to that point. They are designed to be attachable to any possible force in Hell and understand the anatomy of all types of demons. Emergency treatment, surgeries, and evacuations are what they are known for, and they are very well-loved by their comrades.
- The Department of Informatory Coordinated Killers: The D.I.C.K is the premier intelligence department of Hell. Its field operatives have to be demons with abilities to change appearances (usually incubi/succubi) and are multilingual and capable of disappearing anywhere in Hell or Earth. Back home, both mechanical and magical specialists work around the clock to hunt for messages within the confines of Heaven to intercept, looking for any interesting intel on their civil and military matters.
The Envious Navy of Hell & Company
Role: Naval warfare, airborne operations, commando missions.
Nicknames/Aliases: Envy of Three Waters, the Divers with Daggers, Assassins of Angels.
History: As is fitting for the realm and its Sin’s personality, Leviathan put forth all necessary resources to make the Envian military the absolute best it can be. The Navy is undoubtedly the greatest (and really only kind of its scale) in all of Hell, and followed the developments of modern weapons quite closely. As warfare changed, they also developed their own special forces groups to master the toughest battlefields and retain their reputation as the best of their trade.
Branches:
- The Envious Navy: The only serious naval force in Hell, it is regardless one of the fastest evolving as they eagerly host exercises, develop new designs, and interview naval experts imported from the human world. Today, they sport a proud force of aircraft carriers and missile cruisers protected by hundreds of screens, along with a force of submarines that can blot out the skies with missiles and the seas with torpedoes.
- The Parachute Service of Envy: While many of Envy’s residents are both flight- and underwater-capable, the novel human idea of transporting whole units of soldiers by air behind enemy lines appealed greatly to the innovative-thinking Envians. With either high-tech parachutes or wing protective devices, the Paras accept all kinds of demons, flightless or not, and are highly trained to work alongside the aircraft of the Honeycomb Express and Mammonian Dervishes.
- Commandos No.1-No.666: Always looking for new ways to wage war, the Envian Commandos were the first true modern special forces in Hell, and the epitome of quality over quantity. Each unit is only ten Commandos, resulting in a fighting force of only 6,666 for an entire branch of the Envian military. However, they are capable of punching twenty times above their weight, and have a reputation of leaving no enemy survivors.
The Slothian Armored Army
Role: Armored warfare, heavy engineering, artillery support.
Nicknames/Aliases: Belle’s Bronze Beasts, Diggers of God’s Grave, Tsunamis of Shells.
History: While training programs and mobilization are among the worst of any Ring, Sloth’s advances in technology make it vital in arming the rest of Hell with modern equipment. They have the best tanks, biggest guns, and most reliable small arms, all designed for efficiency so even the laziest soldiers can send a bullet storm downrange. On the other hand, perhaps it is best that much of their equipment is lended to the other more hard-working militaries of Hell.
Branches:
- The Slothian Tank Corps: The best vehicle designs from Sloth’s R&D result in the best armored and most highly motorized force in Hell. A perfect blend of hard-hitting SPGs, flexible tanks, deadly IFVs, and well-armored transports make a tough army to draw blood from. However, they could use a bit more training and active exercises to draw more of their lethargy out of them.
- The Sapper Service of Sloth: Masters of construction, demolition, and heavy equipment, Slothian Sappers keep the whole Armored Army running and functional at all times. Debatably the most active soldiers in the Ring, they are trained not just to work with their own equipment, but with the ships, guns, and automobiles of all other armies in Hell as well. Any spot in Hell can be fully electrified in mere hours.
- The Independent Slothian Artillery: The benefit of being a Ring that emphasizes low effort is that their technology is designed to be as efficient and simple to use as possible. The guns they use are powerful, reliable, and do much of the reloading themselves, giving the best results with minimal physical effort. The guns that fire the biggest shells in the highest numbers with the fastest rate are the queens of the battlefield.

Chapter Text
Once upon a time, a fresh soul named Zach Xavier has graduated from Purgatory after his death and earned his way into Heaven. Originally without direction, he spent his first hours enjoying what Heaven had to offer before learning about the Exterminators: Adam’s paramilitary force whose sadistic ideology and anti-demon ideals dominate Heavenly politics. Zach found them and the annual Exterminations they commit to be sickening, however he was influenced through boredom to join a different branch of Heaven’s military.
On his way to enlist, he met Claire Ezekiel: a heiress of both Heaven-born and saint (former human angel) descent. More importantly, Claire was the subject of a great scandal. She, a former Exorcist, fraternized with a now-dead demon family and was now being hunted by Adam. Zach and Claire became friends and together joined the Daemon Guard: a saint-predominant border defense force which champions the social progression of Heaven and are infamous rivals with the Exterminators.
Claire’s presence in the Daemon Guard caused serious turmoil in the Exterminators, and in their effort to silence her, Exorcists clashed with Guards within a club she and Zach were hanging out in, with disastrous results for the Exorcists who were not trained to fight on even ground. The fight was captured on cameras and caused public opinion to turn against the Exterminators. In response to this offense, Adam started kidnapping Guards and assassinating them using a dagger with a forbidden enchantment. Zach and Claire’s commanding officer was one of the lives lost.
Taking things into their own hands, Zach and Claire infiltrated the Exterminators’ main base, Fortress Michael, using copies of Claire’s old uniform and her expertise. Despite an extremely close brush with Adam and Lute, the two escaped with the cursed solely because of Adam’s own arrogance. Enraged, the Guard replicated this angel-killing enchantment on their own weapons through Claire’s encouragement and stormed Fortress Michael to make an example.
While this move caused Adam to be practically taken out of power and the Exterminators to be reformed into the Demon Cleansers, Zach protested this move as liable to stir up a political hurricane which turned out to be true. Pressured by the public, Sera announced that she had to banish one of the two Guards who retrieved the dagger from the fortress and failed to turn it in as evidence. Claire planned to go, but Zach, completely disillusioned with Heaven and with nothing to lose, beat her to the punch and was banished to Hell as a fallen angel, though the angel responsible for the banishing process had sympathy for him and allowed him to keep a few of his angelic powers.
Lucifer Morningstar was quick to greet the newcomer fallen angel and the two hit things off on a good note from their mutual distaste of Adam. The King of Hell directed Zach to the estate of Grand Marquis Shax Goetia for refuge, where he stayed for several days. Zach once again suffered from a lack of direction, and Shax suggested that he go out and become a Turfie (territory holder), to which Zach reluctantly agreed. Zach later found out that the target Kingpin Shax picked for him was a trafficker, which completely changed his tune and he eagerly eliminated his target with brutality.
Taking the Kingpin’s place, Zach become one himself and went to work developing his territory, emphasizing rule with a soft glove and big stick. An important moment for him came when Queen Bee-lzebub was looking for a place in Pride to hide drugs she stole from Dr. Belphegor. The two talked and struck a profitable trade deal, though more importantly, Zach was instrumental in hooking Bee up with Vortex and creating her infinite love for her people, creating a permanent friend and ally of her.
With Bee’s economic support, Zach’s territory grew rich and prosperous as he hired an array of colorful Hell-born figures to lighten the load for him: including a struggling pickpocket from Greed, a disgraced engineer from Belphegor’s Research Society, a Wrathian gal with her best friend quieve, a former-slave hellhound with his young son, and a manager from Ozzie’s who was hiding out from paparazzi. Zach would become known as the Kingpin of Subsidies among the people of Pride and his generous investment into his territory made him extremely popular with his subjects.
Since he took over his land, two Kingpin neighbors had been pestering and harassing him, seemingly through the orders of a third party. Zach eventually built up a strong military force and used innovative tactics to obliterate both aggressors simultaneously. He was now an Overlord and controlled much of the land between the Vees and the Cannibal Town. However, another Overlord, known only as the Corsair, made himself known, and he was not happy with Zach’s presence. After the recent Extermination, the two met face-to-face at an assembly, and declared war on each other; Zach adopted the moniker of Overlord Zero in dedication of this rivalry.
The Corsair ended up paying off some abductors to kidnap Zach and lock him down in one of Greed’s most secure prisons in order to clear the way for his airship fleet to attack the fallen angel’s territory. However, with the help of his employees on the outside and some fellow convicts on the inside, Zach escaped the next day. The whole time, Bee-lzebub got the help of Belphegor to create a volunteer force in support of Zach, attracting members from all Seven Rings.
Zach met up with this new Seven Ring Volunteer Group on his way back home. The Corsair was nearly finished conquering Zach’s territory, but the appearance of the Overlord and his reinforcements reversed this course entirely and pushed the invaders back out. Despite this, the Corsair had dealt serious damage to the place and took many civilians as hostages. At this point, Zach become adept at tapping into his inner demon and earned recognition as a talented leader and soldier.
To deal with the hostage problem, Zach went to procure the services of Shax who happened to be the most talented thief in Hell. In order to achieve this, he was forced to owe a favor to Lucifer in exchange for his mediation in convincing Shax to go along with it. Ultimately successful, Shax retrieved the hostages safely from the Corsair’s grasp and left the enemy Overlord without protection. Zach then made a show of force and firepower as he shot down the Corsair’s airship and eliminated him once and for all.
With his favor to Lucifer in mind, Zach made his way down to the Morningstar Palace to talk to him. The two exchanged more pleasantries and Lucifer’s request was quite simple: the Heaven Embassy wanted to discuss something, and Zach is to escort Princess Charlie during the process…

Appearance: Zach is a fallen angel greatly resembling his former human form with his body and appendages unchanged in shape. He possesses short dark hair, glasses, and a moderately sharp complexity which all suggest an uncertain heritage between Asian and Caucasian. His skin is a moderately more grey shade of his former human color and his eyes appear inverted with his sclera being black and his pupils and irises white. He possesses dark feathered wings which he can materialize and remove at will.
- Overlord outfit: By default, Zach retains a relaxed outfit with a green suit vest over his white dress shirt and any decent pair of pants he has at the time. He continuously wears comfortable ankle boots fit for combat and retains a tough pair of fighting gloves in his pockets. Hidden in the outfit are holsters for a pistol and a knife.
- Combat outfit: Zach possesses a fighting outfit specifically fashioned for him by Rosie. It is a pitch-black military commander’s uniform with green highlights and contrasts which comes with a matching forage cap. Designed as much for ceremony and comfort at it is for combat and durability, the uniform has plenty of pouches and slings with room for a decent one-man arsenal. To top it off, the imported chameleon fabric from Envy, which this uniform is made of, shifts color to blend in with its surroundings.
Personality: From a distance, Zach is a mild-mannered introvert who prefers to contribute nothing to nearby conversations. He is quite apologetic and eager to yield to or compromise with others, caring little for inconveniences to himself. However, his unassuming exterior hides an individual of great diplomatic and martial talent. As an Overlord, he treats his subjects with great care as equal sentient beings and is a city-renowned mediator for nearly any form of dispute. As a commander of his own militia, his troops greatly enjoy his charisma, appreciate his strategic and tactical talent, and are willing to do almost anything for him. He is deathly caring and loyal to his friends and family. Few things can truly anger him, but people who have seen him angry comment about a killing machine that even God knows to stand astride of.
Abilities:
- Angelic powers/transformation: Zach retained some of his best abilities from Heaven, he can shift into a glowy form acting as a parallel to most demons’ transformations
- Blessing powers: Can imbue any kind of object or weapon with angelic energy, making them lethal to sinners and angels. This effect quickly wears off after use
- Angelic protection/immunity: As a fallen angel not terribly dissimilar from Lucifer and some Goetia, Zach is barely affected or even immune to demonic and human weapons
- Advanced healing: Recovers quickly from wounds thanks to his blood. His blood can also be used to help others through consumption or transfusion
- Flight: Has wings which he can materialize and dematerialize
- Military & combat experience and expertise: A veteran of the Heavenly Daemon Guard and well-read in military theory. Was training to be an officer before falling to Hell
- Firearms proficiency: Viable with most guns but specializes in heavy automatic weapons
- Melee proficiency: Experienced with knives and clubs and has killed in close combat many times
- Mechanical engineering: Trained in the apart of taking machines apart and putting them back together. Useful for maintaining his mechanized militia.
- Psychology and rational thinking: Good at reading other people and getting a feel of their past actions, present personality, and future intentions
- Silver tongue: Great at diplomacy and making deals. Able to appeal to what others want and create compromises
- Multilingualism: Born in a mixed family, Zach was fluent in three languages before he even had his first death and fell into the colorful crucibles of Heaven and Hell
Otto Becker
“Don’t. Call me that. I was a kid who grew up in the wrong place and time. You’d best remember that.”
-Becker after Cherri pointed out that he was a Nazi
True Name: Otfried Albert Becker
Nicknames:
- Becker (preferred name)
- Corporal Becker (official Emerald Militia rank)
- Otto (only tolerated from very close people)
Likes:
- Chocolate
- Sketching & drawing
- Freely exploring his interests
- Reading books with questionable content
- A good shooting competition
Dislikes:
- Authoritarian and extreme ideologies
- Drugs, especially methamphetamines
- Sir Pentious (formerly)
Species: Demon (sinner), Human (formerly)
Occupation:
- Schutzstaffel (formerly)
- Corporal of the Emerald Militia
- Waiter (part-time)
- Guest of the Hazbin Hotel
Notable Relationships:
- Zach Xavier (commander/Overlord)
- Regina Mayberry (friend and fellow Beaconer)
- Hazbin Hotel crew (friends and allies, though some of them are complicated)
Appearance: Becker resembles the peak image of an ‘Aryan’ man with blue eyes and youthful blond hair. His sinner form, while slightly faded in terms of color, retain most of his spitting image. Most notably, however, his sinner form has many body parts replaced by robotics. One leg, one arm, one eye, and most of his organs are taken up by equivalents made from metal and synthetic plastic and rubber. Dotted around his body are patches of metallic skin.
- Casual outfit: Most days, Becker sticks with light short-sleeved shirts, shorts and running shoes to spare his cybernetics from overheating in Hell’s heat and which give him the appearance of a track and field athlete.
- Emerald militia outfit: Due to Zach’s policy of allowing his troops some autonomy in personalizing their uniforms, Becker’s black and green Emerald Militia uniform takes inspiration from both his German and Czech heritage. The fatigues are based on Czech models while his helmet and field cap were left over from the uniform he died in.
Personality: After a pointless and harrowing death, the once fanatical and non-autonomous Becker has spent decades struggling to find his post-death self. Extremely wary and distrustful of others, the Sudeten-German was quite a thorny figure, more to ensure his own safety than for others. It was only after he came into Zach’s service and found a safe life that he began to relax. His youth has never really left him, as he proves to be a friendly, eager, and enthusiastic man. What few friends he does have down in Hell, he is just as loyal to as Zach. When push comes to shove, Becker is still a fearless and fanatical fighter at heart.
Abilities:
- Artificial parts: Becker’s partly-cybernetic body gives him resistance to damage against certain parts of his body. His robotic arm and leg possess notable strength
- Robotic eye: His single artificial eye has advanced perceptional range and can be set to detect a variety of specific things. Becker mostly uses it to detect enemies hiding behind cover or to pick out liars
- Combat experience & expertise: He was trained at the heart of a totalitarian and militaristic regime, and although he died before seeing combat, his decades of surviving in Hell gave him a comparable experience in fighting and survival
- Firearms proficiency: Very effective and experienced with his submachine gun and battle rifle
- Discipline & perseverance: When putting his effort to something, Becker will refuse to give up until that thing is finished. His robotic parts help him greatly with performing demanding and extensive tasks
- Multilingualism: Spoke fluent Czech and German before his death. Living in Hell necessitated learning even more languages
Claire Ezekiel
“You talk too much.”
-Claire to Lute after the former punched the latter

- Little Artemis (by her parents)

- Demonic history and social studies
- Promoting Heaven & Hell relations
- All like-minded demons and angels
- Her friends and family
- Cutting off her enemies while they’re ranting
Dislikes:
- The Exterminators
- Heaven’s dilapidated and paranoid society
- All political and legal red tape

Occupation:
- Exorcist Cleanser (formerly)
- Daemon Guardsman Lieutenant
- First Heiress of the Ezekiel Principality
Notable Relationships:
- Lexington Ezekiel (father)

- Sebastian Ezekiel (youngest brother)
- Sera (overseer)
- Zach Xavier (friend and ally)
- Emily (friend and ally)
- James Burton (fiancée)
- Phan Ánh (friend and ally)
Appearance: A true mix of angelic and human blood, Claire’s legitimate form possesses more human traits than most. Her mostly silver skin has a notably human tone. Her golden-colored hair is usually let down and hangs at shoulder length. Her eyes are a monotone jade color. Her wings are quite colorful: a smooth spectrum of blue, green, and magenta like that of a Broad-Tailed Hummingbird. Her halo is turquoise, the signature color of the Ezekiel Principality, and has a single decorative eye on it.
- Ezekiel outfit: For official and ceremonial purposes, Claire is required to have a distinctive appearance to be easily identified as a member of the influential Heavenly Principalities. Claire’s preference is a sky blue Greek-style toga dress complemented with similarly Greek sandals and angel-style platinum jewelry around her neck and on her ears and hair. The dress is quite free-flowing, but the parts it leaves uncovered doesn’t leave much to the imagination.
- Daemon Guard outfit: Daemon Guard uniforms are usually white with dark grey contours and outlines, and Claire’s is no different. As an officer, her outfit is more lightly-equipped and topped with shiny stars and stripes compared to her subordinates. As someone who prefers field work, however, she’s retained her original combat helmet and modified it with the silver wings which identify her rank.
Personality: Claire is an approachable and inquisitive explorer who enjoys meeting and talking to new people. A progressive no different from the rest of her family, she reveres human imperfections and shares some others’ views that admission of human souls into Heaven should be more open and fair. On the other hand, she is quite aggressive and disdainful towards those who have wronged her. Uninterested in masquerades, she is very open about most of her beliefs, willing to assert them through the use of her fists, and has earned an almost Robin Hood quality to her reputation has a troublemaker in Heaven.
Abilities:
- Angelic powers/transformation: Like any angel, she has enhanced fighting capabilities when threatened. However, as a Principality, she is a notch above many others in terms of power
- Blessing powers: Her principality specializes in blessing troubled humans with perseverance or the will to weather through tough scenarios
- Angelic protection/immunity: Like any angel, most weapons can’t kill or even hurt her. Currently living in Heaven means that the prospect of such a thing happening is even lower
- Advanced healing: Up in Heaven, pain is barely even a concept
- Flight: Her colorful wings are strong, and make her look good while airborne too
- Military & combat experience and expertise: A veteran of the Heavenly Daemon Guard and currently a Lieutenant. Well-versed in military engineering
- Firearms proficiency: Lethal with a shotgun. Even more lethal with a flamethrower
- Melee proficiency: Has scrapped with bare hands since she was a kid, sometimes with bullies and sometimes with her own brothers
- All-Speak: As part of a Principality which interacts regularly with human souls, she has the privilege of not being subject to language barriers
Archangel Raguel
“To sum it up, in my humble opinion as Archangel of Justice, Heaven’s system of accepting and denying souls is completely broken and undeveloped.”
-Raguel stating her disdain for Heavenly programs
True Name: Rhagouḕl: Archangel of justice, harmony, and vengeance
Nicknames:
- Purgatory’s Purveyor (Purgatory-related title)
- Heaven’s High Lawyer (law-related title)
- Ral (by Zach)
- Raggs/Raggy (by her fellow Archangels and Lucifer)
Likes:
- Reading romances
- Giving second chances
- Helping her students and cadets
- Ranting about Heaven’s flaws
- People who understand morality the way she does
- Zach, in a ‘like-like’ manner
Dislikes:
- The embargoed and starved state of Purgatory
- Sera and the Heavenly officials who exiled her
- Genuinely awful souls and bad people, to the point of great violence
- Her sense of isolation from her peers and loved ones
Species: Angel (archangel)
Occupation:
- Heaven’s Minister of Justice (formerly)
- Founder and Overseer of Purgatory
- Practicing universal lawyer
Notable Relationships:
- Lucifer Morningstar (sibling & acquaintance)
- Archangel Gabriel (sibling)
- Archangel Michael (sibling)
- Archangel Uriel (sibling)
- Archangel Raphael (sibling)
- Archangel Sariel (sibling)
- Archangel Remiel (sibling)
- Sera (political rival/enemy)
- Zach Xavier (friend, ex)
Appearance: One of the strongest types of angels, Raguel’s actual form follows the trend of lacking human characteristics. Mirroring Sera and the Goetia, Raguel is extremely avian in appearance and greatly resembles an anthropomorphic Peregrine falcon with her feather patterns and color. Her eyes are a monotone amber color and she has a notable beauty spot by the corner of her beak. Building on top of that, however, she has adopted a tomboyish style where she keeps her feathers short and swept to one side with no need for hairbands or clips. Her three pairs of wings match and complement her feather pattern.
- Business casual outfit: Raguel does not have any scrutiny in her workplace other than from herself, so therefore, she likes to keep things approachable. She commonly wears blouses, cardigans, skirts, pants, stockings, and anything else seen on the average office lady. She prefers any color that’s easy on the eyes ranging from beige to navy blue. She rarely wears the same outfit or clothing combination twice.
- Purgatory command outfit: The Archangel controls her own Purgatory military force and was a seasoned warrior and commander back in Heaven’s early years. Her battle dress-style uniform has black and white as the primary colors with highlights and contours of gold and red, symbolizing the mixed nature of the residents and students at Purgatory. Also consistent with most of her soldiers is a steel mask which protects her face and obscures her identity. The mask can best be described as a ‘practical masquerade mask’ which fits perfectly on her beaked face.
Personality: A soft-speaking and gentle mentor to her Purgatory cadets and a skilled lawyer, Raguel combines a motherly hand with a voice and wit that can strike down the most experienced of debaters. As a rare angel which has had a significant amount of time with her own domain and thoughts, Raguel is far more willing that most to criticize Heaven and its perceived flaws in her eyes. She upholds a firmly neutral and understanding perspective on sinning and is very understanding to grey and conflicted souls. However, as the closest thing to a personification of justice, Raguel can be the worst nightmare to rare souls whom she sees as hopeless. To put it simply, she is not above inflicting painful punishments and obliterating certain souls from existence entirely.
Abilities:
- Angelic powers/transformation: Has the same capabilities as all other Archangels and can tangle with the best of them. Also includes a human disguise
- Blessing powers: A special addition she has to her blessing powers is the ability to award in-transit souls with their wings and halo when they earn their way into Heaven
- Angelic protection/immunity: You’d be hard-pressed to even get near Raguel with an angel-killing weapon, since she has her own army and everything
- Advanced healing: Good luck even giving her a bruise. She’s more likely to break your bones
- Flight: Unlike many if not all demonic Goetia, Raguel actually has functional wings to back up her avian appearance
- Military & combat experience and expertise: A veteran warrior, commander, and recruiter of Heaven’s early conflicts, Raguel currently controls her own Purgatory Defense Force and runs it like clockwork
- Melee proficiency: Possesses a heavy barbed flail which causes wounds that no living creature can walk off. Extremely fast and acrobatic in close combat
- Master of law and debate: Practically the greatest lawyer in existence. Can exploit the smallest of loopholes, flip the most firm arguments, and win the most hopeless of cases
- All-Speak: Naturally given as an Archangel, although it is also useful for processing what souls there are which come to Purgatory

- Liz Fismes
- Regina Mayberry
- Otto Becker
Description: The Beacon is the popular name to describe the territory of Pentagram City under Zach Xavier’s Overlord dominion, derived from his benevolence treatments towards it and the populace living within. Zach has taken a soft-handed approaching to developing his territory with personal investments and allowing great freedom to businesses and residents in order to overcome the problematic bias they have towards angels and Overlords. This has all allowed him to build up a rich and desirable corner of Pentagram City whose residents not only enjoy his oversight, but also want to keep it at all costs. The Beacon has strong trade ties with Queen Bee-lzebub, and by extension, minor ties with other big names like Belphegor and Asmodeus.
The territory has its own military force to represent and defend it called the Emerald Militia. Engineered by Zach with his extensive experience and knowledge, the militia is well-trained, equipped, organized, and open to demons of all shapes and sizes. The force is well-motivated and outclasses most other militias and even armies in Hell, having access to heavy equipment, armored vehicles, and a few aircraft. As it stands, many members of the E.M. are veterans of a recent brutal conflict against the Corsair Overlord.
The Heavenly Daemon Guard
Location: Heaven, Hinterlands
Services Provided:
- Border defense
- Home defense
- Military police
- Expeditionary capabilities
- Invasion capabilities
- Anti-daemon & eldritch warfare
Members:
- Claire Ezekiel
- Zach Xavier (formerly)
- James Burton
- Phan Ánh
Description: The Daemon Guard is currently one of four major branches in Heaven’s armed forces. They are responsible for guarding Heaven’s magic and inter-dimensional borders from any hostile creatures that do not belong in their plane of reality. Originally an underfunded and overlooked branch, the Guard have recently broken the Exterminator hegemony and earned their proper representation. With the largest population of saints (former-human angels) in the military, the Guard is unquestionably the most modernized branch and really the only one comparable to contemporary human militaries. They greatly dislike the Exterminators and argue that the main priority of Heaven should be removing inter-dimensional threats like the monstrous daemons permanently. Daemon Guards are not necessarily pro-Hell, but many have sympathy for the plights of their fellow former-human sinners.
Purgatory Academy & Habilitation Center
Location: Purgatory
Services Provided:
- Processing of conflicted souls
- Academic-based programs
- Community service-based programs
- Military service-based programs
Members:
- Archangel Raguel (founder & administrator)
- Zach Xavier (graduated)
Description: During the early conflicts involving Heaven, Raguel was commissioned to create the pocket dimension Purgatory ostensively to collect strong and God-fearing souls for Heaven’s armies. However, her original and continuing vision is for Purgatory to expand by leaps and bounds in order to give every soul their chance to enter Heaven. Raguel’s hopes were sorely disappointed when Heaven expressed no interests in allowing access to all souls, and her protests against their policies as well as for Lucifer’s and Lilith’s falls caused the Heavenly brass to exile the Archangel to her own realm for 666 years.
Raguel has made the most of her exile by developing Purgatory as she saw fit, creating programs to accommodate any and all souls who did come through. One of the more notable programs is the Purgatory Defense Force, the realms own armed force made up of souls who decided to try and earn their path to Heaven through military service. As it stands, Purgatory is an infinitely capable realm with only a trickle of souls to work with, and Archangel Raguel longs for the day when Purgatory becomes what she envisioned it to be.
