Chapter 1: one.
Chapter Text
jeff was numb. looking at babe crying over his brother's lifeless body over alan's shoulder he simply didn't feel anything. he didn't felt anything because he's brother was alive, right? charlie wouldn't die on him this way. charlie wouldn't race after his warning about the vision if he didn't knew he would be totally fine afterward, right?
jeff was still numb while north rushed past him to get a doctor to help babe, that collapsed on the floor. he felt nothing at all as alan asked him if he wanted someone to stay with him while the others took babe home. he felt nothing as the doctor said he needed to sign the paperwork to get the body to the funeral house of his choice. and then he felt everything once he touched charlie's hand and felt them ice cold.
his brothers hands were never cold. he was always as warm as sunlight, every inch of his body reflected his bright and cheerful personality. charlie was always his personal sunshine, unit he wasn't. there, laying lifeless on a hospital bed, his high neck white shirt, now red from the blood, torn apart as they attempted to reanimate him, his hair soaked with the red liquid that rushed down his face, sticking his fringe to his forehead. jeff suddenly felt the heavy feeling in his front pocket from charlie's glasses that were always with him during the races. he suddenly felt everything.
as his knees finally gave up on him and a sob rised to his throat he felt arms holding him in place. he recognized the alpha's scent without the need to look, kenta. the alpha hold him as his legs didn't have the strength to hold his own weight anymore. he held him close as him too felt tears trying to scape his eyes. he held him even closer as someone from the funeral house finally arrived to pick up the body.
jeff cried. jeff cried everything he didn't cry in front of the x-hunter team. jeff cried until almost passing out from exhaustion. jeff cried while hitting kenta to let him go, because deep down he knew he had a finger on his brother's death, his only brother. jeff simply cried. he cried out all the anguish, sadness, desperation, anxiety within him. and then we was numb again, he had a funeral to prepare.
as the body was transported, he cleand his tear steamed face, and got out of kenta's arms without a word. without glancing even a look to the alpha's face, he left the hospital.
"why are you here?" he felt his throat dry from not using it since the accident happened hours ago. his eyes aimed at alan, leaning back in his car. "is babe ok?"
"he's still unconscious, north and sonic are with him." the older man said while giving him a concerned look, certainly noticing his red rimmed eyes and running nose.
"you should be there with him too." jeff stated as he unlocked his car and got ready to get in, being blocked by alan's body leaning against the door. "he will need you when he wakes up."
"i'm not sure if he will wake up anytime soon, he was really drained out." walking over and entering the passenger sit, while jeff took the driver's one without question the alpha. "besides, the boys are capable of taking care of him for a while, you need someone too."
"do i?" jeff questioned while getting in his way to the funeral house. alan simply mumbled a positive sound, and they continued their way in silence. not a comfortable one, neither a uncomfortable for that matter, it was just, silence.
a few hours later he was finally on his way to their home with charlie things in hand, his uniform, his shoes, everything he had on his body but the bloody shirt. alan had already left to be with babe, that had woke up in complete distress. but funny enough, jeff found himself in front of the older house, instead of his own. deep down he knew alan's won't mind him crashing there for tonight, but he didn't even know the older man was home at all, since he remembered he mentioning they took babe to babe's place. so he sent him a quick text asking. sure enough, in a few minutes he find his way inside the giant mansion, just to find babe, north and sonic all cuddled up on the sofa.
north was the first one to notice him, with a quick nod of his head. "kitchen." he said simply, and jeff made his way there finding alan making something for all of them to eat (or try to, at least).
turning his head in a quick motion, alan found the petit omega in his kitchen door, looking paler than ever and very worn out. a quick sniff in the air caught a scent he never really smelled before. it was sweet, but had a deep and bitter feeling over it and he realized then, jeff's sent blockers must had worn off during the day.
"hey, there is a empty room getting up the stairs, the second door to the left, you can take a shower there if you want to get more comfortable." the alpha finally said while getting back to the food he was preparing.
"i would love to, but i didn't bring any clothes with me" the omega said and a quiet, kinda robotic voice.
"it's fine you can take some of mine, it's the last door of the corridor. it will probably be big on you but it'll certainly be more comfortable than the jumper." he forced out a smile on the omega, that just modded his head and got his way to the rooms.
the bath certainly helped his tensed body to relax a bit. he made it quick, aiming on just getting that awful hospital scent out of him. he quicky dried himself out and got in alan's borrowed clothes, and he finally put on his final piece, one of charlie's jumpers, that he found on the back seat of his car.
his brother comforting scent filled his nose, he didn't want to bother babe even more by bringing charlie's scent next to him, so he choose just to stay in the room. he laid in bed and then it him once again.
the phantom feeling of holding his brother's lifeless hands. tears started rolling down his face without any effort on his part, they were simply rolling out. soon enough the scent of a distressed mourning omega hit the boys downstairs. babe burst out into tears once again, smelling the slightly remembrance of charlie's scent that hit him like a wave. charlie was always hugging his little brother, of course their scents would stick in each other, like it was their own.
"can you ask jeff to come stay with us?" clearing his throat, he made himself able to ask in a faint and vacillating voice. alan surprised face didn't go unnoticed by him.
"are you sure? you have your senses back, wouldn't his scent bother you too much?" the older asked to be sure. the truth is that he was planning going upstairs and comfort the hurting omega in a few minutes, since he knew the only reason he was upstairs was because he probably had the same line of though as himself did.
"his scent reminds me of charlie." babe stated while a sob tried to break free from his throat. "makes it feel like a part of him is still here."
alan just nodded, and got up to get the petit boy upstairs. knocking gently at the door of the room he offered to him earlier, he opened it after a few minutes without a verbal answer. jeff was laid on his side, clinging to the hoodie he was wearing as if his life depended on it. his face red and wet from the tears, his legs up to his chest, just trying to get as small as possible.
the alpha approached the bed slowly, trying to make his own scent noticable so jeff won't be as startled. he slowly lowered himself on the bad close to the omega feet and put a gently hand on his back.
"come on downstairs, babe is asking for you, you can nest there if you want to, i know it would be a comfort to all of us." he stated softly, while stroking his hand up and down the omega's back.
"you want me to build a nest in you living room?" it was all jeff was able to breathe out between sobs.
"wouldn't you be comfortable with that? it's ok if not, really, but babe really wanted you to stay downstairs with us."
"my scent won't bother him? i don't have scent blockers on me right now" jeff said while sitting up slightly.
"i had the same thought as you, but he said your sent reminds him of charlie..."
"oh." was the only thing that came out of his mouth. cleaning the tears of his face he took a few deep breaths and got up, starting to collect all the pillows in the bed and making his way to the door. "get the blankets then, we have a nest to build."

Chapter Text
jeff was never a nesting kind of omega, he didn't have the right to be where he grew up. it was only when charlie finally decides to escape that hell house and took him as well that he was able to build his first nest.
it happened naturally, after a very long and draining heat period he just wanted some comfort, so he went into charlie's room and took a bunch of his clothes. his brother was always his safe space, his scent always grounded him when he needed to, and it was a must to have it in all the few nests he build in his life.
so in some sense, it felt wrong. nothing in the nest felt right. north, sonic and babe where standing in a corner of the room waiting for it to be complete. alan was by his side handing him everything he asked for, from pillows to some of the pack pieces of clothing. he was on it for 20 minutes now, and realized he would never be truly satisfied with the nest, without at least 5 of charlie most worn out clothes to drench everything in his comforting scent.
he started to tear up while placing the last blanked, over all of his creation to combine everything into one. he turned to the boys and asked them gently to each take a bath before entering the nest, they agreed silently and followed to the second floor, sonic always clinging to babe arm. when they were no longer in sight, jeff sprinted towards his car, where charlies hospital clothes were. it was not ideal, and it had a slight hint of blood to it, but it was charlie's scent whatsoever.
alan watched in silent as jeff took what he assumed was charlie's uniform jumper out of a clear bag, and placed it right in the middle of the nest, covering it back with the top blanket. he watched silently as the omega's lips started tremble while he tried to hold back his tears. he let his instincts take over him and immediately held the younger one close to his chest, feeling like crying too.
but soon enough the 3 racers made their way back to the living room, sonic helping babe into the nest. babe was silent, getting comfortable on the stack of pillows, blankets and clothes surrounding him wasn't hard. soon enough he find himself opening his arms towards jeff, a silent invitation. jeff saw sonic and north entering the nest right besides babe, sonic making sure to cling to the alpha again once he was settle, where north just threw a leg over both of them. alan went into in babe's other side, but leaving a gap in the middle of them both, for him. slowly he entered the nest as well, accepting babe hug, but making sure to keep his hands to himself.
he was not in the right state of mind to trigger a vision right now, and alan noticed it hugging him again in a way he couldn't move his arms, so babe wouldn't feel that he didn't want to hug him back, he just couldn't. north took upon him to turn the tv sound on again, since they muted it when jeff started to build the nest for them.
the pack just laid there in a comforting silence, the only sound in the house being the cooking show that was being reprised on the tv. it may have passed 30 minutes or 3 hours, he wouldn't be able to tell, and then he remembered something he needed to tell the others: "the funeral will be held tomorrow morning."
the silence that followed afterwards made him feel like he needed to reassure the pack, his pack. "i didn't felt like you-... that we were in the right emotional state to do it today." jeff took a deep breath, feeling babe arms tightening around him a bit "i just wish to pay our respects to him the way it is supposed to be, the way he deserves." his voice shivered as he felt his throat closing up, feeling a hand started stroking his hair, probably sonic's.
"i don't want any of you to be alone right now. i know everyone here is taking it in different ways, but i know my brother was loved by all of you, and i couldn't wrap my head to thank you enough for that." at this time tears were already rolling down his cheeks, soaking babe's shirt close to his shoulder. "in the end i'm just happy charlie got to be loved in the way he deserved to be, he was happy, he was realized." a soft sob interrupted him and he felt a soft kiss in the back of his head. "thank you for giving him that, truly."
in response he felt all the arms tightening around him, he saw behind his blurry eyes north and sonics head peaking over babes shoulder as they reached to place at least one hand on him as a form of soothing his distressed inner omega.
jeff noticed babe crying form, as well as a few tears rolling down sonic's cheek. "i hope you realize that you too are deserving of this happiness. alan deep but caring voiced filled the silent that followed jeff's words "i'm more than certain that this is everything charlie ever wished for you, happiness."
he quickly nodded to what the older alpha said, knowing it was the truth as charlie always made sure to make him know that. but, was he deserving of being happy through?
he couldn't really keep the voice in the back of his head quiet. ever since he heard the doctor apologizing to babe in the waiting room there was this voice, his voice, saying that it was his fault. saying that he could have averted it. that he helped kill his brother.
and to some extent he agrees. he knew for a long time now that the accident was happening. he didn't know who would be in the car till the day he saw charlie right besides the vehicle he saw so vividly wrecked on top of a forming blood lake. he should have dragged charlie home and locked him there, he should have stand in front of charlie's car preventing him from entering the race, he should have told alan to get help in stopping charlie. he should have done anything besides just hugging him goodbye.
but he also knew that if it wasn't in this race, it would be in another one. his visions never missed, and unfortunately never will. even if they managed to dodge the future for now, it would catch up with them, charlie would die one day or the other.
but this statement didn't make it any easier. in any way, in any form. the pain banging in his chest was suffocating. his head was already throbbing from crying too much in a spam of a few hours.
his brother died.
his brother died at 16:43 of a saturday, a few weeks away from his 23rd birthday. his brother died doing what he loved and dreamed of for years. his brother died being loved, having found a new family, where he made sure jeff was also a part of.
his brother died, and jeff fell asleep while making peace with the fact that his brother was gone, for good.
Chapter 3: three.

the pack bids their final goodbyes to charlie.

Chapter Text
the morning came quicky than jeff expected. the omega being awake long before the sun light could catch the big windows of alan's mansion. he managed to get some sleep, but a restless, the scene of the crash being reprised in his mind all the time. and he knew he wasn't the only one dealing with it.
he felt babe moving against him trying to get free from sonic's embrace as quietly as possible, but the beta was a really strong cuddler, so it didn't work that well and soon all of them were wide awake.
jeff sat up on the now messy nest rubbing his sleep heavy eyes while alan kept his hand firm against his waist, as if asking him not to get up yet, but he needed to head home to get clothes and get to the funeral.
he let a soft sight out of his lips. "the funeral will be at 10, so we still have a few hours." he got up and started walking towards the room he was designated to last night. "sort the things you need to before it, and be there in time, please. going up the stairs he felt his legs heavy, as his omega truly didn't want to leave the comfort of his pack.
he decided against going back to the jumper from the day before, he would just go home in alan's clothes and bring it back to him afterwards. he got his things in the room and headed back downstairs, where he saw that babe was already up, and not in the room, so he quicky took charlie's uniforme from under the top blanket and folded it neatly, tucking it with his own clothes.
eyeing north and sonic who were still cuddled up together, he bid his silent goodbye and went to his car, finding alan right besides it. the alpha opened his arms in a silent invitation for a hug, and jeff went right into it, just letting his instincts take over for a moment.
he felt the alpha's lips pressing lightly to the crown of his head. jeff wasn't naive, he knew there was something going on between them, he just didn't think it was the right time, nor the right mood for have that talk. so he slowly distanced himself pro alan, giving him a weak smile.
"i'll be heading home to change clothes, will see you guys there, ok?"
"ok, let me know if you want me to pick you up, or if you need any of us. don't raise your walls up again"
"i won't, promise."
and then he was gone, he made quick way to his house, body on autopilot as he drove. he made quick work of taking a shower and putting on some clothes. he thought about wearing blue, charlie's favorite colour, but he went with black as all of the pack would probably follow this line as well.
he found himself stuck in front of charlie's room door. should he enter it? he would need to at some point. his clothes and his things, although the most of it were at babe's, there were still some of it there. he thought some more about it but decided to leave it to another day, he wasn't ready yet.
driving to the place where they would say his last goodbyes to his brother, he made sure to buy his favorite flowers on the way there, yellow roses. he checked the clear bag in his back seat, making sure everything was there, and got out of the car.
the betas and the oldest alpha were already there, as well as dean. when a slightly breeze hit his face, he felt a familiar scent in the air, and looked around for the alpha that he was way too familiar with. kenta was standing in the tree's line a few meters from them. jeff didn't really want him there, but he knew he didn't have the right to prevent the alpha to say goodbye to charlie, so he just let it be.
jeff felt alan's hand placing in his shoulder, he looked to the older man who held a concerned look in his face. "i'm ok." he reassured softly.
15 minutes passed and there was still not sign of babe. jeff was beginning to worry, maybe letting babe go back to his and charlie's place alone wasn't the best idea. what if something happened to him? was he in the right state of mind to drive himself anywhere? as he thought about speaking his concerns to alan, he saw babe car entering the parkway, a soft sight of relief left his lips.
as the star racer walked towards him, he saw right through him. holding what he thought were charlie's race gloves close to his chest, he saw babe kneeling in front of the memorial.
"charlie..." he heard babe's cracking voice and felt his own throat closing up. "i've come to see you. i brought you gloves." the racer was able to let out between sobs. "i remember every time you wore these gloves. you like to pretend to smile and think you're the coolest." he saw a painful smile breaking babe's lips with the memory. "charlie... i want to keep these gloves, may i have it please?" he couldn't hold back his own tears anymore, and let them out, feeling alan place a comforting hand close to his waist. "i don't want to forget you. i miss you. you will always be in my heart, charlie. i love you" babe tried to get up but he didn't seem to be able to hold his own weight, falling slightly to his right. north and sonic were quicky by his side to help him up.
as tears rolled down his face, he clinged to the clear bag holding charlie's belongings, and stepped close to where babe's was once before. he placed the bouquet of yellow roses down, and started to take out his brother's uniform from the bag. he folded it neatly and placed it down. taking a deep breath he started talking.
"hey phi..." a soft sob escaped his lips. "i brought your uniform, i know how much you loved and worked hard for it, so you might as well take it with you, right?" he reached for the bag again. "i also brought you glasses, you left them with me, i guess you need them to see what's on the other side." he sighed heavily.
"phi... i miss you. i miss you so damn much it hurts." as he let his crying out he felt the words he wanted to say to charlie finally getting out as well. "it's not fair. it's not fair that you gave up your life to take care of me and now you're gone and i'll never be able to give back everything you did for me." he managed to say between heavy sobs. "why it had to be you?" he ended whispering softly. "why it-" he choked in his own sobs, finding it hard to breath, not being able to let any more words out. he braced his middle and bend over, feeling the air in his lungs getting out but nothing getting in. he quickly felt hand on his back and his arms, finding alan and kenta holding him.
he left himself fall back into alan's arms and tried to normalize his breathing. feeling the distress of his pack betas from afar. a few minutes passed and he acknowledged kenta's presence woth a nod. "say your goodbyes and go." he whispered to the alpha, trying to get up from the ground. alan hands firm against his hips as he supported his weight in fear his legs would give up.
they watched as kenta placed a bouquet of flowers in the memorial. being followed by north, sonic, dean and finally alan, who was afraid to let jeff go so he waited for north to take his place grounding the omega.
"hey kid. i promise, i will take care of both of them, the best i can." the older alpha let it out softly, but in a firm way, trying to pass confidence in his speech. "they're safe, and we will all be alright."
"you can rest now charlie."
Chapter 4: extra.
Summary:
just a few extra scenes on how the pack got all together and all.
Notes:
well well here we go again. i honestly just opened my notes all and started writing, didn't think too much about it and did not beta read it either. its just my raw take on what i imagine for them after the last chapter, hope you enjoy it anw!
in this fic, way did NOT sa babe. his treason was using his powers on babe to influence him on doing some things like not going out, or staying with way, and nothing more.
in this fic also, north and sonic are both betas, as i fell personally that it was more on character with them for this story!
(See the end of the chapter for more notes.)
Chapter Text
four years.
four years since charlie passed away, and sometimes it still feels like just one week after the accident.
slowly the pack fell back into place. the x-hunter team spend an entire racing season after the accident and one more out of the tracks, and all of them made the best out of it.
way made it back to the pack life. mainly because alan couldn't stand seeing the closest thing he has to a son isolating himself from the world. the pack alpha was extremely grateful for pete for keeping way grounded in the time he was away, he knew how the younger enigma was self destructive.
alan couldn't say the enigmas relationship was unexpected, if the way they both looked at each other during their meetings meant something. the alpha was just glad way finally allowed himself to move from his love from babe, and the pack gladly welcomed pete in their family after babe welcomed way back in his life, he was betrayed, sure, but he missed and loved his best friend dearly.
kim was also a new addition to their pack. although he was reluctant at first, the younger alpha ended up creating a strong bond with their betas, north and sonic, and a even stronger bond with jeff. being alway from home for so long did good to no one, and the korean alpha wasn't an exception, when he found himself homesick the pack realized that the pack omega was a great comfort for him.
what none of them expected really was that, after finally defeating tony a few months after the accident, they would welcome kenta into their pack as well.
the topic was first brought to the table by pete, during their weekly pack dinner, that jeff and babe always made sure they had. even they all living in the same house, they all had their lifes and needed some time by themselves.
after north asking the enigma couple when they would be moving in with the rest of them, pete asked if kenta was also welcome, as the alpha was living with them. jeff was taken back by the name in itself. although jeff knew back then that their adoptive brother had a finger in charlie's death, he was a mess when dean confirmed that it was kenta who asked him to mess up charlie's car. after all, kenta took care of him the best he could in his time in the foundation, he still had positive feeling for the alpha.
but still, the petit boy didn't want to live in the same house as the man who paid to have his brother killed, neither did babe. the house should be his safe place. that was until one day, when kim asked for a pack meeting to present his mate to them, and kenta walked through the door hand in hand with him.
babe stormed of the house in the moment it clicked that kenta being there ment: he was pack now. although they all had a feet back with the boy, they would never ask kim to choose, they rather have kenta living in the house to lost contact with the korean alpha.
jeff felt very awkward and out of place when he realized that a few weeks into the moving, the pack had already warmed out to kenta. everyone but him and babe. but then, one day he found kenta locked up in the landry room mid a panic attack.
it didn't really matter what feelings he had for the man, his inner omega took over his instincts and recognized him as pack, being probably the first person he ever recognized as a pack, even before charlie. when kenta spend nights taking care of his sick body, even when they had doctors at the foundation. when he locked the omega in his own room when he realized the petit boy was presenting, and being punished for it by tony.
having kim's scent clinging to him almost like it was his own also helped. he soon found himself soothing the distressed alpha, scenting his wrists lightly and hugging him tight. he didn't really noticed he was crying until kenta's thumbs started whipping alway his tears.
in this moment he knew he had his first brother back. although he would never forget what kenta had done in tony's name, he also would never forget that the alpha was the only comfort in his life for years. for 8 years kenta had been his everything and now he had it back.
babe through, it took him nearly 2 years to fully accept kenta. having returned to his own house for the majority of the time he had to share the same place with the ordinary alpha, coming back only when he needed to be scented, soothed or felt lonely.
it didn't had really a moment that babe accept kenta, he just slowly felt into peace with the fact that kenta made kim happy, that his presence made pete and way happy, that his head omega felt safe with the alpha around, so he just accepted it, and they are all living all together again for a full year now.
alan felt realized, he had an establish career as both a retired racer and as the garage and the x-hunter owner. he had the big pack he always dreamed off, all living under his roof. he had the omega of his dreams he mated 3 years ago, and in the moment he stared at the pregnancy test over jeff's shoulder he realized he will also had his own pup to raise, he couldn't be happier.
they decided to wait for the 3 months mark to tell the others. as it was by that time they would be certain the pregnancy would stick and that the omega's scent would start to chance. and when they finally delivered the news, the whole pack was in awe.
it was at that time that pete through it was a good ideia to tell them that his 4 years old son that no one but way and kenta knew about, martin, would be coming to live with them. imagine his surprise when he found out the kid already called way papa and everything.
but welcoming martin in their life's was easy. the kid, that was raised by pete's adoptive grandparents as the enigma was way too scared tony found out about him, was the sweetest little boy ever. after he moved in, he found a big interest in playing with his alpha uncles, being the only one capable of getting north to stay silent for more that 30 minutes, tiring him of with the crazy games he came up with.
and now, 4 months after his and jeff's little boy was born, he worked quietly in his laptop by the dinning table, watching fondly as babe held his son while jeff was sited by his side, resting his head on the special alpha's shoulder. pooh, as they named their son after charlie's favorite cartoon character, was staring and giggling ate the little sound babe was making towards him, trying to copy what his favorite uncle was saying.
alan smiled and he felt himself getting emotional at the sight and through to himself, as he promised to charlie, his boys were okay.
