Chapter 1: Chapter 1
Chapter Text
It was a beautiful day in the Kingdom of the Sea. Basically every SeaWing was at one of the Kingdom’s many beaches. Including a lot of the SeaWing Royal Family.
Prince Gill and Princess Axolotl were playing a game of tag, along with the rest of Queen Coral’s many, many grandchildren.
“Look at how happy they are,” Tsunami said to her brother, Turtle.
Turtle nodded. “Although, I’m fairly sure Mother has other motives for this reunion.”
“Tsunami, Turtle!” Coral called out.
Tsunami grimaced, and put on her “dealing with mother” face. “Yes, Mother?” She asked.
Coral wrapped her wings around her children. “I wanted to talk to both of you.”
“Is this about our partners?” Tsunami asked bluntly.
“It’s just,” Coral said. “It’s not proper for a princess to marry a commoner. And it’s especially improper to marry a dragon from a different tribe.”
Tsunami and Turtle shot each other significant looks. Coral had disapproved of Tsunami marrying Riptide, the former leader of the Talons of Peace. But she had practically had a heart attack when Turtle announced that he was marrying a RainWing named Kinkajou.
“You know what?” Tsunami said. “I’m going to swim. Doesn’t that sound like fun?”
“Super fun!” Turtle said. As both SeaWings ran to the ocean, Coral yelled at them, “We’re not done with this discussion!”
“Ughh, what is her problem!?!” Tsunami said once Coral was out of earshot.
“You know how traditional she is,” Turtle said. “She’s always thinking about what past SeaWing queens would think. I’m pretty sure she thinks that if we don’t follow tradition, the Kraken will burst out of the ocean and eat us.”
Tsunami scoffed. “Does she seriously believe in mythical sea monsters?”
“Humans also believe in sea monsters, actually,” Turtle retorted. “They mostly tell stories about the Leviathan, some sort of mythical sea dragon.”
“Princess Tsunami! Prince Turtle!” The two siblings watched as Pike, a member of the Royal Guard, came splashing toward them.
“What is it, Pike?” Tsunami asked.
Pike looked pale. “We’ve found something,”
“What did you find?” Turtle asked.
“Something you’ve never seen before.”
Chapter 2: Chapter 2
Chapter Text
Pike led Tsunami and Turtle to the other side of the island. “There,” he said, pointing.
Tsunami looked to where he was pointing and her jaw dropped. Lying on the beach, was a gigantic octopus arm, bigger than any full-grown dragon.
“What the-“ Tsunami started, before she was cut off by Turtle screaming, “IT’S THE KRAKEN!”
“Exactly.” Pike said. “There’s nothing else it could be. But we also found this.” He walked over to the arm and heaved it aside. Underneath it was a massive dragon scale.
Well, I’ll be, Tsunami thought. I guess the Leviathan is real, too.
Chapter 3: Chapter 3
Chapter Text
“I don’t know which idea is scarier,” Wren said. “The idea that there might be an octopus bigger than a full-grown dragon, or the idea that there might be a dragon so big, that it would destroy my old village by simply stepping on it.”
“Both of those sound scary.” Sky said.
“They are scary,” Tsunami said. “But I’m more worried about what could happen if they come on land.” Tsunami, Sky, and Wren were on the beach where both the octopus arm and the dragon scale had washed up. Tsunami had told them both about the Kraken and the Leviathan.
“I remember my parents telling me about the Leviathan when I was a little girl.” Wren said. “Although, they mostly used it to keep me from swimming in the river nearby. I didn’t think it was real, until now. And I doubt it would have lived in a river.”
“Have you heard of the Kraken before?” Tsunami asked.
Wren shook her head. “This is the first time I’ve heard of it.”
Tsunami turned to face Wren and Sky. “I still don’t understand the story of the Kraken. Why does a story about a giant octopus exist? How come we’ve never seen it before? And even if we had, how come it isn’t written down somewhere? It just doesn’t make sense!” Tsunami then realized that both Wren and Sky were staring at something behind her with different expressions on their faces. Wren had drawn her sword and was ready to fight; Sky looked absolutely terrified.
Tsunami sighed. “It’s right behind me, isn’t it?”
Sky nodded. Tsunami turned around, and came face-to-face with the biggest octopus she had ever seen. It looked like it was bigger than the Deep Palace. It was orange and had several bite marks on it.
“OH, CRUD!” Tsunami yelled. She opened her wings and lifted off. Sky quickly followed suit, with Wren on his back. The Kraken slammed its arms down right where all three of them had been. Then, to Tsunami’s horror, it got out of the water and began moving inland.
“Why does that exist?” Sky said, shaking.
“Umm,” Wren said. “Does anyone else realize where it’s going?”
Tsunami looked in the Kraken’s direction, and her face paled. “It’s heading for Bay City.”
Bay City was a large, ocean-side settlement where both dragons and humans lived. The population was massive.
“It could destroy the city, and end countless lives!” Tsunami yelled. “We need to warn everyone there, now!”
Chapter 4: Chapter 4
Chapter Text
“The ocean is so peaceful today.” Cricket said.
“You’re right.” Axolotl agreed. The human and the dragon were out on a small boat in the Bay of a Thousand Scales. The water was calm, and it seemed like they were in for smooth sailing.
Cricket breathed in the fresh air. “No evil tyrants, no sentient plants, just complete and total peace.”
Just then, Axolotl said, “Uh, Cricket? I don’t know much about the ocean, but I don’t think it’s supposed to glow.”
Cricket looked over the edge. The human was right: the ocean was glowing green. “You’re right, the ocean shouldn’t glow.” Cricket said, adjusting her glasses.
“Also, there’s a massive wave coming.” Axolotl said, pointing. Then Axolotl noticed something and squinted.
Is that, is that a SeaWing sail!?! they thought.
Sure enough, it was a SeaWing sail. A massive one.
“Cricket! We have to get out of here!” Axolotl yelled. Cricket saw the sail, grabbed Axolotl, and took off.
As she hovered above the water, Cricket noticed that whatever it was seemed to be diving down. As it did this, an absolutely massive tail surfaced, before splashing back down. Then it was gone.
“Let’s do our studying on land.” Axolotl said.
“Great idea.” Cricket agreed.
Chapter 5: Chapter 5
Chapter Text
“Everyone needs to evacuate, now!” Tsunami yelled.
“For a sea monster that doesn’t exist?” A SeaWing asked. “Yeah, right.”
“I mean it! You have to go, now!” Tsunami yelled.
“What do you think?” Axolotl asked Gill.
“My mom doesn’t believe in fairytales and superstitions.” Gill said. “So the fact that she’s telling everyone to evacuate because of the Kraken makes me think it’s real.”
It was nighttime, but a lot of the residents of Bay City were out and about. Mainly because most of them were SeaWings.
“OH DEAR CLEARSIGHT!” Someone yelled.
Everyone looked, and there was the Kraken.
No one moved.
Until the oversized octopus lifted one of its arms.
Everyone started screaming. Dragons and humans were trying to get as far away from the Kraken as they could.
The octopus began smashing things up.
“It literally can’t get worse than this.” Tsunami said.
As if on cue, Cricket landed in front of Tsunami with a worried look on her face.
“What is it, Cricket?” Tsunami asked.
“Axolotl and I were out at sea, and,” Cricket said. “Something absolutely massive is coming this way. It was glowing.”
One of Tsunami’s eyes started twitching.
“Um, Mom,” Gill said. “Are you okay?”
“WHAT DID I DO TO DESERVE THIS!?!” Tsunami yelled.
Chapter Text
While everyone was evacuating, Gill and Axolotl got separated from Tsunami, Wren, Sky, and Cricket.
“I really wish the adults were here.” Axolotl whispered.
Before Gill could respond, he heard a SilkWing say, “There’s something big here.”
“Of course there is!” A SeaWing yelled. “We’re being attacked by the Kraken!”
“I know that.” The SilkWing said. “But I’m sensing another massive, living thing here.”
That must be the thing Cricket saw! Axolotl thought.
The Kraken then smashed a large building, causing it to topple over. Everyone screamed. Gill and Axolotl held on tightly to each other.
Then…
THOOM
Something was right next to Gill and Axolotl. The screaming stopped. Gill looked up, and saw large glow-in-the-dark scales above his head. Whatever it was took another step.
“We’re under its stomach!” Axolotl said.
The Kraken roared.
Gill and Axolotl darted forward, just in time to see the large creature light up its scales.
It was a SeaWing.
An absolutely massive SeaWing.
A SeaWing that could crush a human village just by stepping on it.
Her scales were grayish-greenish, and she was covered in scars.
She roared.
The Leviathan had arrived.
Notes:
Yes, Leviathan is based off Godzilla.
Chapter 7: Chapter 7
Chapter Text
“GILL!” Tsunami yelled. The city was in complete chaos, and she had no idea where her son and niece were.
“MOM!” Gill ran right into Tsunami, with Axolotl close behind.
“Are you okay?” Tsunami asked.
“We’re fine,” Gill said. “Did you see the Leviathan?”
“Excuse me, what?” Tsunami asked. Then she noticed the enormous scarred SeaWing fighting the massive octopus. Something about it was strangely satisfying; she couldn’t stop looking.
The Kraken kept wrapping its arms around the Leviathan’s legs, only for her to smack it with her tail. At one point it had an arm in front of her face, and she bit down, drawing blood.
“We have to go!” Tsunami yelled. She took off, with Gill and Axolotl close behind.
A roar came from the fighting sea monsters, and Tsunami swung her head back to see that the Leviathan had ripped one of the Kraken’s arms off. The enormous dragon quickly got the octopus on the ground, and then stomped on its head.
The Kraken was dead.
The Leviathan roared in victory, then started heading back to the sea.
Sky flew up beside her, with Wren on his back.
As Wren looked, she saw the Leviathan glance at her. The enormous sea dragon glared at Wren, her eyes full of pure hatred.
Then she slipped into the sea.
Chapter 8: Chapter 8
Chapter Text
Queen Coral had quite a few words for Tsunami when she caught up with her.
“I told you the Kraken was real!” She yelled. “See what happens when we don’t follow tradition? Dragons get killed!”
“The Kraken is dead, Mother.” Tsunami countered. “You can thank the Leviathan for killing it.”
“The Leviathan?” Cricket asked.
“That ginormous SeaWing that just slipped into the ocean.” Tsunami explained.
“It’s a word in the Old Language!” Cricket exclaimed. “It means ‘Sea Serpent,’ but can also be translated as ‘Sea Monster.’”
“Huh,” Tsunami said as Sky landed next to her. “I did not know that.”
“I don’t think she likes me.” Wren said.
“What makes you say that?” Cricket asked.
“Sky and I flew up next to her, and she shot me this look of what I can only describe as pure hatred.” Wren shivered. “I didn’t even do anything.”
“That’s weird.” Cricket said.
“I’m pretty sure that’s the last we’ll see of her.” Tsunami said, putting one of her wings around Gill.
I hope.
Chapter 9: Epilogue
Chapter Text
“I still don’t get why you’d want to come here.” Hope said, brushing cobwebs out of her face.
“Because it’s an old abandoned temple.” Snowdrift called back. The two dragons were exploring an old SeaWing temple that was covered in cobwebs. There wasn’t really much to find here.
“There’s a big room here!” Snowdrift called. He heard Hope running to keep up with him. The NightWing breathed out a plume of flame, illuminating the room.
“By the Great Ice Dragon,” Snowdrift said. Hope gasped.
On the wall of the room was a mural depicting a massive grayish-greenish SeaWing. The SeaWing was crushing a human village, and even eating some of them. Below the mural was the word “Leviathan.”
She fought during the Scorching, Snowdrift thought. What could this mean?
