Rhaegar Targaryen's 'Wives', Children, and the Women who left Him

based off of the tlc show, sister wives 😭😭
jaime and cersei are normal siblings, robert went to rehab and fell for cersei, elia is off with a man who adores her, mariya is tired of men and relationships in general, and lysa is slowly healing.
lyanna and rhaegar? well, thats another story...

The 'wives', the children, and the women who no longer put up with his shit:

- Elia Martell, with whom he has Rhaenys and Aegon Targaryen. They divorced, this is his first legal marriage. Although he insists otherwise, Elia divorced him for cheating on her with Lyanna Stark. She remarried to Baelor Hightower, and has a daughter, Elaena, with him.

- Lyanna Stark, with whom he has Daeron Targaryen (this version's Joffrey... Jon Snow is the son of Ashara Dayne and Ned Stark. Brandon married Cat.) His second (and now only legal) marriage.

- Lysa Tully, with whom he has Minisa and Aeryn Targaryen (twins). She's much younger than him, and many assume that much like with other alleged relationships - he very much liked that. She left him, although she seems torn about it - the affects of his manipulation haven't left her yet.

- Mariya Darry, with whom he has Aemira, Marissa, Eleanor and Gaemon (the latter being twins). She too, had enough of his shit - at first, she fell for his charm, but got tired of the broken promises and broken hearts caused by him.

- Cersei Lannister (now Baratheon, or will be shortly, as she is engaged) with whom he has Joffrey, Visenya and Tommen (twins). Robert Baratheon is more of a father to these children - he was engaged to Lyanna Stark beforehand. He had his heart broken, became a womanizer and drunkard - although he's cleaned himself up now. He and Cersei are very close, due to their very (aka, the same) similar experiences.

I love your stories, especially the "Stupid Elia, Getting in the Way". I love the way you make fun of the tropes of R+L=J.
When it comes to book Lyanna I feel bad for her, I choose to think she was simply a hot headed and reckless teenager and wasn't really thinking of the consequences when she ran away with Rhaegar but had second thoughts when it was too late. Rhaegar has no excuses whatsoever. He was older and thus knew better, and while Lyanna is a near adult by Westerosi standards, she's still a biological child.
Also while I do kinda like Jon Snow, he's not my favorite character. I've seen a lot of stories were he's essentially a "perfect prince" who could do no wrong and ends up with a harem of practically every lady in Westeros. Like I read those stories for smut but I don't think any of that would ever happen in the story. Like I commonly see Jon/Rhaenys or Jon/Elia and I'm like WTF why would they even consider that? I sincerely doubt that Rhaenys would really consider Jon to be a "brother" to her and would be offended if his "true" name was Aegon, especially if her real brother Aegon was dead, and definitely wouldn't be part of a harem with him.
Also when it comes to his life in Winterfell I see all too often how he was "abused" by Catelyn. I mean come on, to everyone else's knowledge Jon Snow is a bastard, but he still lived a much better life than most bastards. He was raised and received an education alongside his "siblings", trained with Robb and Theon and sat at the family table except when important guests arrived as that was protocol of court usually.
Also I don't think Catelyn ever abused Jon. She was cold and distant to him because of course she would but that was probably the extent of it. Yeah its not nice, but Westeros is not the modern world with modern moral principles, its a medieval world. Catelyn wouldn't be expected to be a "mother" to Jon or step mother whether Ned wanted her to or not. Catelyn is a nobleborn lady and she thinks that Jon would be a threat to her future grandchildren's inheritance. While we know that's not the case with Jon in the books, it is still a legitimate fear in Westeros.
I just find it ridiculous how some people write Catelyn as a monster or how they bash ladies, especially southron ladies who aren't strong independent women like Lyanna or Arya who can fight.
Sorry for the rant, just started writing and couldn't stop, lol.

  i wholeheartedly believe lyanna wanted freedom (i.e., a squire) - not to run away with a creepy prince, get pregnant, and essentially be his broodmare? from what we know of book lyanna... that doesn't match her character. i think book lyanna was innocent and naive - whereas show lyanna was beyond cruel and cunning.
  why tf would elia ever get with a child... yikes. and rhaenys definitely wouldnt forget her mother OR her brother - the real queen to be and the real aegon. i've read quite a few fics where she took the throne from jon and lyanna. jon in this series is the son of ned and ashara - rhaegar and lya's son is basically joffrey :)
  and fr yeah, catelyn was a literal godsend compared to other highborn ladies. cersei wouldve murdered him and had him smothered - catelyn just mostly ignored him, but at the very least... she never really wished harm upon him. and regarding her saying "it shouldve been you" - her son was in a coma, she was grieving. not an excuse, but i truly understood how she felt. if jon had been a girl, i think she may have been an aunt figure. id rather have cat as a stepmother over lysa, cersei, or even lyanna 🫠 cat reminds me of my own mother so much, one of the many reasons why ill always defend her

    Yeah I definately agree that all that Book Lyanna really wanted was some freedom and was too innocent and naive of how the real world worked and got caught up in Rhaegar's prophecies. Also I mean Show Lyanna is hypocritical in not wanting to marry Robert because he had a bastard daughter, but she ran away with a married prince who had two children? She agreed to be a second wife or mistress and give birth to bastards?
    And about Jon/Elia, yeah its real weird. I've seen multiple harem fics of Jon with every lady of Westeros. I only read those for the smut not the plot to be honest. I think most people just write him as a self insert.
    As for Catelyn yeah she really was the best Jon could have gotten. Yeah she may have been somewhat cold to him but why wouldn't she be?
    People need to remember that Westeros is not the modern world with our modern viewpoint on children and marriage. I mean, these are highborn NOBLE families, not just an average middle class family in America or anything. They rule over vast lands and lots of people. Bastards are usually at the bottom of the family and not something that most lords or ladies like to be made public unless forced to. They usually are supposed to be in the background and forgotten about, taken care of sure, but not treated as anything special unless all legitimate heirs are dead.
    I like Catelyn too and I think people are too critical on her for the wrong reasons. She wasn't perfect but she fiercely loved her children. I think most people who don't like her are those who are ultra pro-North and just hate everything "Southron" and just dismiss the south as weak and dumb and frivolous.
    I've seen some fics were basically Ned, Robb or Jon have massive harems of southron ladies, including married ones. All of the lords of the southern kingdoms are portrayed as weak and incompetent fools who are no match for the "strong, hard and HONORABLE" Northmen who can do no wrong except for the traitorous Boltons who work with the cowardly ANDALS.
    What are your thoughts on that? Just curious.
