Chapter 1: A Dream

The first night after Tartarus Percy dreams something.

Chapter Text

A Dream

He was underwater. Deep down under.

He was in a very big hallway with wide windows, outside he could see the fishes swim.
He started to swim relaxed through the halls. For a moment he wondered where he was, before he remembered. He had already been here once.

It was his father's palace in Poseidonís. He had a goal now, so he started swimming with a target in mind.
The last time he was here he had meet his father in his throne room and now he hoped to meet him there again.

Faster than he thought he was before the wide door leading to the throne room, for a moment he hesitated,
before he pushed open them open and strode through them.

At the far end of the room his father sat on the throne.

He didn’t look good and instead very ill. He had deep dark circles under his eyes and his face was pale.
His father seemed to have aged decades since Percy last saw him.
The Nereid told him he was well! Did she lie?

When Poseidon saw him a wide grin appeared on his face.

Then he laughed and bellowed: „Perseus! My son. You have returned to me! I didn’t dare to believe it, when I felt you in my realm.“

It was strange, he never had seen his father so happy before.
Poseidon swam towards him and before Percy could react Poseidon embraced him.

„I did not dare to hope that you would return alive.“, he whispered into Percy’s ears.

Before Percy could even react to the hug. His father had let him go and seized him by his shoulders.

Loud he said still with a wide grin on his face: „It is a miracle to see you so well!“

Were that tears in his eyes? Then he got hugged again.

Needing to ask but unsure how he just blurted out: „How are you?“

„I’m well, do not worry.“, his father assured him. „But how are you?“

„Are you sure?“, Percy questioned. „You look ill.“

He answered: „Only with worry for you, but enough about me! How are you?
You just survived something horrendous and now you will need to fight again soon.“

Percy wasn’t sure if he believed his father, but he didn’t want to ruin his fathers mood so he let it be.

„I’m feeling fine enough, but I have enough of quests to last a lifetime.“

„Yes, you did enough. After this you deserve to rest!“, his father agreed.

Percy nodded smiling. It would be nice to not have to save the world again and instead just live his life.

„Do you eat enough and how is your sleep?“, worried Poseidon.

Percy blushed and abashed he answered: „Dad, it’s only been a day. I have eaten and am currently sleeping!“

„Yes, only a day, since you returned to me miraculous! Tell me what do you plan to do now?“, he demanded.

Percy shrugged his shoulders and answered: „Well, now we need to go to Athen and fight.“

„And after? What will you do then?“

„If I survive-“, he started speaking.

But Poseidon interrupted him: „You will survive!“
His eyes burned with determination and his face twisted to a fierce grimace.
He roared: „I won’t tolerate anything else!“

Percy recoiled. He hadn’t ever seen his father that emotional.
He looked around for anyone to help him navigate this situation, but the palace was abandoned since the beginning of his dream.

Poseidon shook his head and began to speak again: „No matter. Tell me about your future, son.“

„Okay, after this I will stop with the quests. I think I did enough for the gods.“, said Percy with a shaky smile.

Poseidon nodded and agreed: „Yes, I will ensure that you won’t be bothered.“

„Thanks.“, he said bevor telling him of his plans: „Then I’m going to finish school and I thought about going to college in New Rom.
There I wouldn’t be bothered by monsters and I know that Annabeth wants to study anyway.“

„If that’s what you wish.“

„Yeah, it will be nice not having to fight every day.“, commented Percy.

„I would like to talk more with you, maybe later when everything is over you can visit again.“, said his dad.

Percy smiled at that image and responded: „That would be nice.“

His father stated: „Yes, but sadly we need to talk about some serious topics.“

Percy nodded and started listening intensely.

„The only way we gods can win against the Gigantes is, if you managed to settle Nike.“, Poseidon explained.
„She is running wild in Olympia, because of her split personality. She doesn’t know who she wants to win the Greeks or the Romans.“

„Do you have an idea how we could do it? Does she wants something specific or?“, he questioned.

„She wants a clear winner and if you do not want to kill the Romans on your ship you will need a plan.“

Percy asked: „Wouldn’t a simple fight be enough?“

„Perhaps, but would that be a clear enough winner for her? She can’t doubt the winner so that one of her personalities win.“, he explained.

„Of course, it couldn’t be easy.“, complained Percy resigned. „Then we will have to think about something.“

„You will. You inherited my cunning.“, said Poseidon while he smiled. Then he spoke further: „There is also something that will help you. The twins have angered their father, my brother and did flee his wrath. Now they’re hiding on Delos, desperate to appease their father.“

Percy realized fast what he meant: „You think they will help us?“

„If they think that it will help to pacify my brother and don’t underestimate their regard for you. Neither of them have forgotten that you freed Artemis and hold the sky.“, he told him.

„You really think that still matters to them?“

„Of course, Apollo adores his sister and that you can help him appease my brother will help matters.“, he explained. „Of course it would help with Artemis if you were a girl, but you proved your devotion to one and her captain likes you. There is also the matter that they won’t leave their island although Artemis’ hunters are in danger.“

„You think they can’t?“, asked Percy puzzled.

„I think they can’t be harmed on their island, so either they’re more incapacitated than the other gods or something else is keeping them there.“

Percy’s surroundings got fuzzier and suddenly he could only see his father clearly. His smile and his blue eyes.

He heard his father call: „We will see each other in Athen to fight together.“

For a moment he thought that he could feel his dad hugging him.

And then he woke up.

A Reunion

The gigantes were dead and the fighting had stopped.

Zeus was currently making his anger at Hera known, when Poseidon interrupted him: „Brother let us celebrate and talk of punishment later. Afterall today many things worthy of celebration happened!“

His dad looked so much better than the last time he saw him. There were no rings under his eyes. His face wasn’t pale either. Now it was tanned like it normally was. And while he didn’t look as young as normally, he also didn’t seem to be as ancient as last time.

Whatever had plagued his dad it seemed he was on the mend. Percy was so relieved before now he hadn’t realized how much he had stressed about it.

He grimaced and answered: „Brother the fighting is still not over. We should try to deal with everything first bevor we celebrate.“

„You’re right.“, responded Percy’s Dad. „But let us take a break first before we face the next fight. Since it’s a miracle that I can see my son now, after everything.“

„Well, we can take a short break before we go and deal with her.“, answered Zeus.

Poseidon nodded and smiled at Zeus. Then he looked at Percy and gave him a bright smile.

„My son!“, he said happily. „Let us talk.“

He laid his arm over Percy’s shoulders and guided him away from the others. Still nearby but not so close that that they couldn’t talk in private.

„How are you, son?“, he asked.

And Percy smiled as he answered: „I’m relatively well, like I’m not injured at all. I’m just really ready for everything to be over.“

„I understand.“, answered his dad. „I hope you’re not too mad at me for delaying it a bit to talk to you.“

„Not at all. It’s nice to see you again.“

Suddenly his dad hugged him. It was nice but still strange. He couldn’t remember any time his dad was so affectionate. His dad was huge and surrounded by his arms Percy felt save and protected. He melted in his arms and enjoyed the hug.

„You can’t understand how happy I am to finally see you again.“, whispered Poseidon.

„Thank you.“, Percy answered. „Everything is still kinda strange.“

„Yes, but soon everything should be over and you will be able to rest.“, promised Poseidon him.

„That would be nice.“

Both of them went silent not knowing what to say and simple enjoying the moment.

After a while they stopped hugging and Poseidon said: „Tell me about your travels.“

„There isn’t much to tell. You probably already know much about it.“, answered Percy shy.

„While I watched your travels I don’t know your perspective and you always seem to surprise me.“

„Well we meet quite a few people like Nike and Appollo and Artemis. I also meet my sister Kym.“, he told him.

He asked: „Did you like her?“

„Well after she helped us kill Polybotes, or whatever his name was, we got along.“, answered Percy and shrugged his shoulders.

Poseidon said: „That’s nice to hear.“

„I don’t know if you heard, but she wants a divorce and asked me to support her.“

Poseidon hummed and said: „I know that she wasn’t the happiest with her marriage, but not that it was that serious.“

„Apparently she hates her husband.“, explained Percy.

His dad questioned: „Are you really supporting her divorce or are you doing it because she wants you to support her?“

„If she wants one then she should get one.“, answered Percy unsure what his father wanted to hear.

„She is lucky with her timing.“, he commented. „My sister shouldn’t be able to contest her divorce.“

„Your sister?“, asked Percy confused.

„Well the queen of Olympus is the goddess of marriage, but like you just saw her husband isn’t happy with her at the moment and having lost his favour cost her.“, explained.

„Then you will help her?“

„If you want me to.“, answered his Dad.

„Yes,“, confirmed Percy. „I want her to be able to get a divorce.“

„Alright, but you’re going to tell her husband about his upcoming divorce, it would go over better coming from you.“, said Poseidon.

„Yeah, I know.“, responded Percy lacklustre.

He didn’t want to do it at all it will be so uncomfortable, but at least he could soften the blow to Briares. Who knows maybe Briares will even be happy about his divorce.

„Great, why don’t you come with me to my palace. You should be able to rest and heal there.“, offered his dad.

Percy said: „Well first I need to help the others defeat Gaia.“

„You already did enough.“, argued his father. „More than the others and you deserve to rest.“

„I can’t abandon the others, dad.“, responded Percy.

„As you wish, but afterwards when she is defeated?“, asked his father.

„Of course, but I also miss my mom and the only thing she got was a call.“, explained he. „I haven’t seen her since Hera kidnapped me.“

„Certainly, but I want at least a weekend visit next week.“, said Poseidon.

„Yeah, after I meet up with mom and we cleared the mess my kidnapped made with school and such and after Camp is cleaned up.“, agreed Percy.

„Are you trying to avoid me?“, asked his father.

„What?“, he said stunned. „No!“

„Then promise me that you will visit and stay with me the next weekend.“, demanded Poseidon.

„All right, I promise.“, said Percy while smiling.

It was nice to hear that his dad wanted to spend time with him.

„Apropos Camp, do you now if Reyna, Nico and Couch Hedge managed to arrive safe?“, wanted Percy to know.

„Do not worry, son.“, Poseidon told him. „They arrived safe and the Romans and Greek have stopped fighting each other and are currently allies.“

Percy exclaimed relieved: „That’s great to hear!“

„Mmh, I think my brother is getting impatient. We should finish our conversation soon.“, he told him.

„Yeah, I guess so. But before I forgot Frank somehow lost his gift.“, said Percy. „ I don’t really know how it happened or that it was even possible, but somehow he lost his and I wanted to ask if you can help.“

„Earning a gift is a difficult thing. Most demigod nowadays inherit their gift and don’t get them granted later in life.“, explained Poseidon.

„I understand.“, responded Percy. „What can he do to earn a gift?“

„It is easier to get a gift if you’re related to the god or are in another way close to him. Gods don’t just gift everyone a gift.“, stated his father.

Percy nodded.

„Is there a way he can earn a gift from you even if he isn’t close to you?“, he asked.

„Well, since he is now praetor he can start with getting his people to worship me probably.“, Poseidon said. „A nice and big temple, some sacrifices.“

Percy commented: „Yes, the temple wasn’t really a great one.“

„Yes, and he can make up for it with a really nice one, at least as nice as my brother’s. Maybe a big bigger and grander.“, Poseidon said smugly.

He promised: „I will tell him.“

„Do so and tell him also that if he gets his gift back, he should get to keep it as long as the situation doesn’t happen again. Then I have no guarantees.“, his face suddenly wasn’t joyous at all as he said this, instead it was a very grim one.

„Of course. Don’t worry I will warn him.“

„See that you do!“, stated his dad still grim-faced before he sighted and said:. „ My brother grows impatient. We shouldn’t make him wait any longer.“

Percy nodded but before he could walk back towards the others Poseidon hugged him again.

After a moment Poseidon let him go and lead him back to the others. They were already climbing up on the ship. Hazel was currently climbing up and Frank was under her waiting.

His dad turned towards him and laid his hand on Percy’s shoulders. He said, „Don’t forget that you’re never alone. Water is always near and so I am.“ Percy nodded but before he could respond Poseidon continued to speak: „Greet your mother from me. Sally is something special.“

Percy smiled and said: „Yeah, I know how great she is.“

„That’s good to hear.“, he responded. „Goodbye and don’t forgot your promise, my son!“

„Don’t worry I won’t! Bye, dad.“

Frank was already almost on the ship, so Percy grabbed the ladder and climbed up after him.

When he was on the ship, he saw Frank waiting for him.

So he smiled and said: „Hey, what’s up?“

Frank nodded at him as greeting, but instead of smiling he looked very serious.

Frank asked him: „What did you promise?“

But bevor Percy could answer the question Zeus called out: „Hold on tight!“

And threw the ship.

Everything shook as they dashed through the sky.

Chapter Text

A Fight

Percy breathed in deeply. But he still couldn’t reign his temper in. He couldn’t believe what his father did!

At first, he had just been sad, but now he was furious. He itched to fight something, but on the way to his father’s palace he hadn’t meet even one monster. It was almost as if they were avoiding him! And now it was too late. He had already arrived at Poseidonís.

Here was nothing to fight. His father’s subject didn’t deserve his wrath. Still, they seemed to feel his dark mood and instead of talking to him like normally they seemed to avoid him and left fast after a short greeting.
This would have sadden him any other day, he wanted them to like him but today it came in handy.

Since no one stopped him, he had already arrived at the palace. Beside two guards at the entrance he didn’t see anyone else. Which was strange. The guards waved him though. He nodded to them as greeting and swam towards his father’s throne chamber. The same route he swam last time in his dream. When he was overjoyed to see his dad again.

This time his feelings were much more muddled.

Much too fast he reached his destination. He stood before the big doors leading to the throne chamber.
He hesitated. Percy really didn’t want to confront his father, but he needed to. And nothing would help with that.

So, he opened the doors.

His father sat on his thrown. He smiled at Percy and stood up.
Until he noticed the scowl on Percy’s face he stopped smiling and frowned in confusion.

But before he could greet him or say anything else Percy already started talking.
„Why did you do it?“, he shouted the words out accusingly. „How could you attack my friends?“

„Percy“, his father tried to pacify him but Percy wouldn’t have it.

„Why would you even do it?“, he questioned.

His father tried to keep his temper under control and to mollify Percy.

He argued: „No one died. Calm down!“

Percy shouted: „Calm down? Calm down? You almost killed my friends!“

„And you almost died because of them!“, screamed his father back.

Percy was silent for a moment, before he seemed to register what his father just said. Poseidon waited for his answer with his arms crossed.
He didn’t seem to understand why Percy was angry.

„But they didn’t attack me.“, said Percy softly. „You attacked them.“

„And they weren’t harmed too badly. Afterall they still have all their limbs attached.“

„It didn’t matter that you didn’t removed a limb. You still attacked my friends!“, argued Percy back.

„They weren’t your friends! How long ago did you meet them?“ His voice got louder. The control of his temper started to slip.
„Did you ever exchange more than a few words with Hephaestus’ whelp? Or with Aphrodite’s brat?“

„Don’t call them that after what you did to them!“, screamed Percy.

Why couldn’t his dad just admit his fault? Percy too started to lose control over his temper. Poseidon’s unwillingness to just own up to his mistakes just made Percy angrier and angrier.

„I call it like a see it!“, defended Poseidon himself.

„And what’s with Hazel or Frank?“, quizzed Percy furiously. „You stole his gift!“

His father shouted loudly: „I didn’t stole anything! I took back what was rightfully mine!“

„It wasn’t yours. It was his gift!“

The water around them started to get rough. But both of them ignored it. It was only an unimportant background detail.

„I granted the gift to his ancestor Periclymenus and as long as his offsprings honoured me I didn’t have anything against them having it!“, Poseidon explained irritated. „But that little brat was ashamed of me. I didn’t even got one measly prayer from him. He only thought of me when he needed to and I still let him use his gift for Periclymenus’ sake, but what happened was the last nail!“

His father grew bigger, and the currents rushed wild around them. His eyes glinted dangerously but Percy ignored it all.

„How could he have known?“, he said.

„He didn’t even had to use his little brain.“, stated Poseidon irritated. „A bit of gratefulness would have gone a long way!“

Percy didn’t seem to know what to answer to that. Instead, a thought rushed to the front of his brain. A very shocking thought.

„Would you have killed Annabeth if she hadn’t fallen?“, he asked with a sad voice.

„No“, admitted Poseidon. „I know your love to her.“

„Then what’s the difference? You even attacked Nico.“, wondered Percy trying to understand.

„Only after he dared to attack me! I was willing to let him go unharmed.“, yelled Poseidon offended.

Percy asked him sarcastically: „Do you want my thank for not trying to kill all my friends?“

„This riffraff aren’t friends of you! You give your loyalty way too easily.“

„So it’s my fault I’m mad at you?“, questioned Percy infuriated.

„I mourned you! I thought you were dead!“, screamed Poseidon. „What did you think I would do?“

„I don’t know! But not that. Not attacking my friends.“, responded Percy fuming.

Poseidon declared loudly: „That’s who I am! Would you rather have another godly parent? Someone who wouldn’t care if you died or lived?“

The water started to get boisterous. The currents started to get stronger and stronger. The lights in the room flickered and the lanterns cracked like wild against the walls.

Percy answered enraged: „That’s not what I said! Don’t try to change the topic!“

„I didn’t change the topic, son!“, replied Poseidon angrily. „I simply don’t know what you want from me! This is just who I am.“

„So if I died next week in front of mom you would kill her?“ , asked Percy.

His father responded stunned: „I wouldn’t kill your mother Perseus. Don’t be absurd!“

Poseidon was very offered and irritated that his son would even question that. How could he even think it. That Poseidon would ever consider killing darling Sally, his boy’s mother was a ludicrous idea.

„So that’s absurd, but trying to kill my friends isn’t?“, Percy questioned boldly. „What’s different?“

„You ask me what’s different between your mother and some brats?“, he defended his actions. „Besides if they had wanted to be treated like your friends then they should have acted like they are your friends!“

„What should they have done?“, asked his son.

He was clueless as to how his father could be so blasé about what he did. How do you convince someone as stubborn as his dad. Someone who apparently thought that it was a great idea to go after his son’s friends only because they didn’t know that he needed their help.
If they had they would have helped! That wasn’t even a question to Percy.

„They should have cared enough to see what was happening! They cared more for the statue then for you!“, argued his father loudly.

„They simply set priorities.“, Percy defended them.

„Priorities?“, roared Poseidon. „So, they simple valued the statue more that your life? Do you even hear what you say, boy!“

He reasoned irritated: „You know that isn’t what I meant!“

He was so angry. And his father’s stubbornness and unwillingness to admit fault made him even more furious.
Every word from his father’s lips enraged him more.

„Do I? I wouldn’t put it past them.“

„You’re not being fair! Or truthful!“, declared Percy.

„Not being fair? I’m a god we aren’t fair!“, responded his father. „I’m not Apollo, son. I take my children’s side.“

„What does Apollo has to do with anything?“, asked Percy momentarily confused.

„He’s the only fair god that exists! Afterall truth is under his domain. You cant demand that I can act like him!“

„If I can’t even presume that you won’t attack my friends then what else can I?“, he asked desperately.

„That I love you with all my might.“, Poseidon simple stated.

Percy responded monotone: „And that love would have made you kill my friends?“

„Not the ones you really cared for.“, explained Poseidon. „Even if your cousin would have failed saving you, I wouldn’t have killed him. I know you care for him.“

„But the others are free game?“, asked Percy bitter.

His father simple glared at him in answer. For a time, both of them were silent. Then Percy sighted.

„Can you at least give Frank back his gift?“, requested his son.

This enraged his father a great deal, and he said furious: „Don’t even think of demanding something like that! I never granted it to him and he should be happy that I only took it and not cursed it!“

Yeah, happy that he didn’t get cursed. What a great guy his dad was.

„So you won’t even try to make any amends for what you did?“, Percy questioned in disbelief.

Why couldn’t he just make up for it. He didn’t even need to apologize! But how could he look his friends in their faces, when his father wouldn’t accept any blame at all?

„I have nothing to make amends for!“

„Do you really believe that?“, asked his son desperately.

His father didn’t deign to answer his question, but the silence was enough of an answer for Percy. He knew what it meant.
Percy turned away from his father and stormed without saying another word out of the room.

„Don’t forget that you promised to stay the weekend!“, called Poseidon after him.

≈֍≈

Percy sat on a cliff outside of the city. Trying to deal with his emotions.

Luckily Poseidon had left him alone until now, but that would probably change soon. It was after all by now Sunday, and Percy would leave tomorrow if not already today. He felt defeated. There was no other way to describe his feelings.
He knew he couldn’t change his father and at the same time he still loved him. If he didn’t, it probably wouldn’t hurt as much.
He didn’t know what to do. What could he even try?

„Perseus“, called his father from behind him.

He couldn’t hold his tears anymore. It simple was too much. First Tartarus and then this. He didn’t know how to deal with everything that happened. They barely had won against Chronos and then he was missing his memories and fighting for his life again.
„Dad.“, he sobbed.

His father’s eyes widened out of shock. He plainly didn’t know what to do. But he didn’t need to act since Percy had already moved.
He had swam towards Poseidon and was now clinging to his shirt as he sobbed.

On instinct Poseidon hugged him and whispered: „I love you. Never doubt that, son.“
He simple held his son as Percy uncontrollably sobbed and cried.

„Why?“, asked his son. „Just why?“

Not knowing what to say Poseidon simple hummed and hugged his son harder.

„Every- everything was just over after the Titans.“, he stammered. „Why, why did she have to do it? Just taking my memories and-“
His sobbing got stronger and he couldn’t speak again.

„Don’t worry, son. I won’t let her ever touch you ever again.“, he promised as he stared grimly in the distance.
While his sister might have lost a lot of her power on Olympus because of her husband’s wrath. Poseidon wasn’t willing to content with that. He wanted her punished and he knew that he wasn’t the only one. His brother wanted someone to blame, and he only had two options. His wife or his son and Apollo was much more well liked. Her meddling ways had not made her many friends, but all the more enemies.

„And they didn’t even keep their word af- after every- everything that happened.“, he stuttered while sobbing.

„Don’t worry, son.“, he said trying to comfort his son. „Now we have the time that we lacked last time to recover and do better.“

Percy nodded and buried his face in his father’s chest.

After a while Percy stopped wailing and Poseidon opened his arms just enough that he could look upon his son’s tearstained face.

„Did you calm down?“, asked Poseidon gently.

Percy only nodded. He was simply too tired for anything else.

He knew that when he was recovered a little, he would feel ashamed for how he acted, but at the moment he just didn’t have the energy for it.

Poseidon lifted him up and started carrying him back to the city and to his palace.

It was a safer place for his son. There he would be able to recover in peace.

Percy closed his eyes and the next time he opened them Poseidon had just laid him down unto Percy’s bed.

His dad smiled at him and wished him a good rest.

But before he could leave Percy griped his shirt.

„Dad?“, he asked.

„Yes.“

„Please promise me,“, he requested. „Next time I’m lost to you don’t punish anyone until you know that I really died. Yeah?“

„My son-“, Poseidon started, but Percy interrupted him.

He argued: „You can always do it after I come back.“

„Okay.“, relented his father.

His son smiled at him and started to get comfortable into his bed.

Shortly before he started dreaming he muttered: „Love you.“

Poseidon stayed for hours. Sitting beside his son’s bedside and watching this impossible miracle. His son sleeping peacefully.

Notes:

I hope you liked the resolution of this. I just couldn't see an end where Percy won't accept Poseidon. Because he loves him and is dealing with so much. If Percy had a better mental state it might not have gone as smoothly for Poseidon.

Thank you for the many comments! They inspired me so much that I already want to write more for this series. I almost though that there wasn't anything than what I planned left to write for this series until I got so much inspiration from you all that I knew what will happen next.

So, the series is still not finished! I want to write a story about when Percy comes out of the Tartarus and he unknowingly resolves Poseidon's curse. I already know what I will write. It will be a bit about Percy and Nico and also about how the Seven want Percy to go take a bath in the Ocean to pacify his father. And I want to write about what will happen in the future. In the books Zeus decided to punish Apollo here Poseidon interupted him because he wanted to talk to Percy. So, now it's open what happens next. I hope that made you all curious enough to subscribe to the series.

Emoji guide for those who want one:
👍 If you liked the chapter.
🤬 If you're mad at Poseidon.
😢 If Percy's breakdown made you sad.
🤯 If the ending blew you mind.
🌊 If you liked Percy's and Poseidon's dynamic.
🫂 If you liked the reconciliation.
🔎 If you can't wait to find out what Poseidon has planned.

Notes:

I hope you liked the chapter with luck I will post the next chapter the day after tomorrow.

This is the chronological order of the story and in this order I will post the chapters:

  1. Chapter 1 of "Three Meetings"
  2. Chapter 1 - 4 of the next fanfic

  4. Chapter 5 of the next fanfic (this chapter happens moments after Chapter 2 of "Three Meetinggs")
