Chapter Text
Data was cold. Well. Duh. Geordi thought to himself. Of course he’s cold. He’s not on. That didn’t stop it from making him feel uneasy though.
Data has become aware of a section of rubbing within him that was damaging a wire cluster and had requested that Geordi fixed it. He was currently lay on his back, eyes shut, powered down (Data himself said it would be easier), a section of his stomach, to the left side, lay beside him while Geordi was re-wrapping the exposed wire.
Once he was sure it was sufficiently wrapped, he let go and took out a small section of sandpaper and reached in to sand down the area causing the rubbing when a small block came up in front of him.
Geordi sighed, tapping on the barrier, of course Data had internal damage preventions. A box for a password came up. Data had not thought to tell him about this beforehand so now he just had to guess, and he certainly wasn’t about to try and just break through the barrier.
Geordi paused to think, shrugging and deciding to just give it his best shot.
G-E-O-R-D-I
The barrier went away.
Geordi paused, wondering if he had actually seen that right. He just put his name in and it… worked?????????
Data’s security password was his name?!
Geordi shook his head, he was seeing things, he decided, before slowly sanding down the section of metal that was causing the annoyance.
Once that was done, he cast the sandpaper aside and carefully re-attached the section of bio-plays skin and metal before sliding his hand down and under Data’s lower back, pressing on the button he had come to recognise.
He heard the soft whir and sat back as Data’s eyes opened and he sat up.
“All done, Data. It shouldn’t rub anymore.”
“Thank you, Geordi.” Data gave him a small nod, shifting his legs around and standing, his uniform falling back into place.
Geordi paused, thinking, “Data..?”
Data turned to look and listen.
“Why is your security password my name?”
Data’s head tilted to the side slightly before he answered, “I was told to make it memorable.”
Geordi pretended that wasn’t the cutest thing the android had arguably ever said to him, “But you’re an android, Data. Anything is memorable to you. Why my name?”
“Because I wished to use it. Do you not like it? I can change it if it makes you at all uncomfortable”
“No. Data. It’s fine. I just didn’t expect it to work when I put it in.”
“Ah. I see.” Data paused and Geordi could see the question before he heard it.
“Yes you can keep it as my name, Data. It’s not like anyone is going to expect that.”
“Perfect.” Data nodded and Geordi saw him pick up the sandpaper, “Until later, Geordi.”
“See you.” Geordi gave him a little wave as he left before leaning back and slumping in his chair.
He swore the android knew what he was doing sometimes. With the sweet little things he did. But Geordi had no way to prove it. And certainly would not ask.
