Chapter 2: She would be left behind.

Summary:

PIPABETH ANGST BECAUSE I FEEL LIKE IT
ONE-SIDED PIPABETH

Chapter Text

Piper watched Annabeth and Percy from afar on the Argo II. It was clear they loved each-other a lot. Like, a lot a lot. She was happy for them, she really was. But she also felt envious. She couldn’t help it. Everytime they kissed, or hugged or did anything affectionate her jaw clenched, and her eye twitched. She was thankful nobody payed attention to her to notice those things.  Sure she was in happy relationship with Jason, but Jason didn’t even remember her. Besides, she had seen the way he looked at Leo. Suddenly she felt sea-sick. ‘Okay love-birds, I’m going back to my room.’ She said. Piper wasn’t even sure that Percy and Annabeth heard her. As she sat down on her bed, her head felt fuzzy. She laid down on her bed and decided it was time to confront her feelings. She knew she loved Annabeth. She had been in love with her since she first laid eyes on her! The way her honey-blonde hair glinted in the sun, the way her beautiful grey eyes glinted when she got a new idea, or you know..saw Percy. Her head started spinning, she was sure she was gonna puke. She could only wish Annabeth looked at her the same way she looked at Percy, with pure love and affection. She remembered that one night on the Argo II, they were having a party. She couldn’t remember why, though. Leo set the deck on fire, the others were frantically trying to put it out. Piper and Annabeth were looking at the night sky, which was full of stars, and pointing out constellations. ‘See that there? That’s Big Dipper.’ Said Annabeth. Piper looked to the group of stars where Annabeth was pointing. Piper didn’t find looking at stars interesting, but she was with Annabeth. A few minutes later, Annabeth looked at her, and something clicked between them. For Piper, at least.

Annabeth smiled at her. A smile that was so warm it could compete with the sun itself. Her grey eyes glinted in the moonlighte. ‘Y’know Pipes, You’re one of my best friends.’ She said. Piper’s whole world cracked at that moment. Friend. She knew there was probably no way that Annabeth liked her romantically, but inside she clung to one tiny piece of hope that maybe, just maybe, Annabeth felt the same way. But all of that hope was lost. “Uh— yeah, you’re my best friend too!” She answered.

Piper’s head started to hurt. She didn’t know what she could do. She knew Annabeth was destined to fly some day, soar to great heights. And however much Piper wished she could join her, she knew she would be left behind. So she would just have to stay on the side, watching in sadness and envy, knowing that

She would always be left behind.

Chapter Text

Annabeth paced on the ground. Where was Percy? Was he okay? Was this Hera’s fault? Gods, she hoped it wasn’t that. She wanted to cry. She was hyperventilating. “Annabeth, Annie please, listen to me.” Piper said. “He’s gonna be okay. He’s gonna be fine! Don’t worry!” Annabeth wasn’t so sure. She sat down under a poplar tree. She didn’t know what to do. She didn’t know what she could do. Her hands were shaking, her head ached, she felt like fainting. She had started crying now. Piper tried to comfort her, but Annabeth was so caught up in her own thoughts she could barely hear Piper. Annabeth held her head in her hands, she felt so helpless. She had almost lost Percy many times and she was tired. She wished she wasn’t a demigod. She loved him so much. He was half of her soul, as the poets said. Boyfriend wasn’t even a strong enough word for it. He was her life, He was her Sun. If he was gone..he didn’t know what she would do. He just left, without telling anyone. She asked everyone at camp. Even the nymphs in the trees. Nobody saw him. Suddenly she felt a familiar hand on her shoulder. “Hey Wise Girl, I’m back.” It was Percy. Gods, he looked so beautiful. His sea green eyes glinted in the sunlight, his jet-black hair shined. “Where were you?” Annabeth said. Percy looked nervous. Where were you?” Annabeth asked again. “On—On a quest.” He said. Suddenly the air felt tense. Percy looked as if he’d almost died. “What.”
_________________________________________________

Annabeth looked angry. Like, really angry. Percy didn’t know what to do. He knew he should’ve told her, but it came up last minute. Before he could answer, Annabeth was walking away. She was fast, even for Percy. Before he knew it, Annabeth was gone. Percy looked for her, everywhere, but she was nowhere to be found. Finally, he came across her sitting in the grass. She was silently sobbing. “Hey wise girl, are you okay?” “What does it look like Percy?” “I’m sorry, Annie. It’s just- the quest came up last minute, a-and—“ Then Annabeth kissed him. “You, Perseus Jackson are an idiot.” She laughed through tears. They didn’t say anything, they just sat together. They didn’t need to say anything to prove their love for each-other, they both knew.
