Gabriel huddles beneath his wings as the mortal girl, who was cowering on her bed only seconds ago, chases the swarm out with a palm leaf and slams the door on them.
“It’s okay, big guy,” she says. “They’re just flies. Now why don’t you tell me what all this is about?”
Gabriel has never been so embarrassed in his immortal life … but Mary is smiling.
