Notes:

Hello and welcome again to more of my god AU! I had so many one shot ideas that I've compiled them into this fic! Each chapter will be a different story with different themes. There's no chapter limit as I have no idea how many ideas I'll have in the end.

The summary of each chapter will include specific tags and a run down of each story! I hope you all enjoy!

Chapter 1: Cold Heart, Cold Embrace

Summary:

Halara Nightmare, god of Saturn, does not care for their fellow gods. The only one they can tolerate is Fubuki Clockford, goddess of Neptune. How will they react however when Fubuki gets stuck during the eruption of Mt Vesuvius?

Halara Nightmare/Fubuki Clockford (Queer platonic), Yuma Kokohead/Desuhiko Thunderbolt (mentioned), asexual Halara, light angst, fluff, fluff and angst, volcanic eruption, natural disaster

Notes:

Happy Birthday Halara! And Happy RainCode+ release day!

This is my first time writing Clockmare so I hope it's good! Thank you Icyonice for beta reading this work and giving me the Clockmare stamp of approval!
While I do enjoy writing Kokobolt, I do like other ships as well! I think Halara and Fubuki are sweet and wanted to have a go at writing them. This story was hinted at in chapter 3 of the main piece and I wanted to give these two some time in the spotlight as well by properly writing it out.

(See the end of the chapter for more notes.)

Chapter Text

Halara Nightmare really didn't care about humans.

In fact, the god of Saturn saw them merely as less hairy apes with a slightly higher level of intelligence than some of the other monkeys on the planet.

They were gross, vindictive, and some thought they ruled the world. Halara hated their attitude. So why did they stay on the planet at all?

The answer was simple… cats.

The feline animals had caught the gods attention with their elegance and grace, so instead of blessing the humans like their fellow gods did, Halara blessed the strong willed beasts, no matter how big or small. A lion or tiger was just as majestic as the domestic cats the humans thought they owned. But the humans were wrong. It was the cats that owned them. The humans were merely their guardians that gave them shelter and protected them from serious dangers. Granted, some humans had strong bonds with the cats that lived with them, Halara gave those humans slightly more leeway, especially if the cat vouched for them. The god still didn’t fully trust even those humans though.

They honestly didn't care if their fellow gods got annoyed that they didn't help bless humans, they were just here to observe after all, intervening only when necessary. That was what the council had decided after all when they discovered the lush planet didn’t have a god of its own.

To be honest, Halara didn't even really care about their fellow gods that much at all either. They had their duty and they performed it flawlessly, they didn’t need help. They didn’t need friends. They were fine being alone.

That was until one being seemed to worm their way into their cold heart.

“Halara-san! I have something I want to show you!”

Halara sighed in exasperation as Fubuki, goddess of Neptune ran over.

They folded their arms, “Make it quick. I am very busy after all.”

The sharp tone didn't deter the goddess however as she led the way, not grabbing Halara's hand like the last time. After the first instance, Fubuki had quickly learned to never do it again.

Halara only had one thing to remark on when it came to this particular ethereal being.

Scatterbrained

Fubuki was a goddess whose interest was like the wind itself, erratic and all over the place, but extra strong when focused in one direction. However Halara didn't have the energy to argue that day.

And thankfully, the gamble had paid off. After walking for quite a few miles (a mere skip to a god), Fubuki smiled as she presented her new interest.

A huge lion, one with a magnificent mane.

Halara was actually speechless, “This…”

“They're amazing right! I knew you'd be happy to see such a great beast!” Fubuki grinned, her hands in balled fists as she leaned forwards in wonder.

“Intriguing.” Halara muttered as they approached the mighty lion, giving them a small bow of respect, “Although I must enquire, how did you know I am interested in felines.”

Fubuki hummed in thought for a moment before giving Halara a beaming smile, “It's simple really! I've watched you interact with other wild cats, and your body language always seems to relax a little. Or… maybe I'm reading too much into things again.”

She placed a finger to her lips as she tilted her head quizzically, “I didn't tell the others, it's just something that caught my eye. So when I saw this lion on my latest adventure, I knew I had to share the find with you to share the joy! Oh!”

Fubuki looked down as the lion rubbed around her leg and hip, nuzzling its great head into her. Fubuki's eyes seemed to sparkle as she carefully placed a hand into its wild mane and ruffled it.

Halara however had to say something, “Ah, keep your hand that brushes the fur going one way, like this. It's more comfortable for the cat doing that.”

“Like this?” The goddess asked, copying the motion Halara had demonstrated flawlessly. That got the right response however as the mighty cat knocked Fubuki over to lay on her lap, enjoying the cooling aura the goddess gave off. The goddess just chuckled, “Wow! What a big kitty!”

Halara's expression seemed to soften as they sat down next to Fubuki, keeping the lion between them. The god gently scratched around the beast’s ear as the creature lazily made itself comfortable, “I must admit, I am surprised. I thought this lion would roar at you for entering its territory uninvited.”

“I made sure to learn from my adventures with a tiger! You respect the creatures of this planet and give them space to investigate you first!” Fubuki announced, a pleased look on her features, “If you don't, then you face nature's wrath!”

Halara seemed to chuckle lightly at that as they continued to brush the fur of the lion, “I see… then would you like to know about more cats that live on this planet? Until this fellow gets bored of course.”

If Fubuki's eyes could somehow get any bigger, they did. It was like ice glinted from behind them as she nodded, “Please do! I'll gladly listen, Halara-san!”

And Halara just sat there, talking happily about all the different felines they'd encountered. The whole time they did, Fubuki listened attentively, absorbing every word.

Fubuki continued to inform Halara of the different wild cats they'd found, although there were a few instances where Halara scolded them for upsetting the creatures. While not done maliciously of course, Halara still wasn't too thrilled when Fubuki had a Pallas's cat biting her head and was just giggling about it. Yes neither cat or goddess was hurt, but still, a lecture about not pissing of animals was still given.

Halara wasn't exactly annoyed by all the interruptions, I mean talking about cats was very satisfying, but it was curious that the goddess would approach them without hesitation. Most other ethereals would at least approach Halara with caution, but Fubuki did no such thing.

It was kind of… soothing? Halara couldn't pin the emotion, but it didn't really matter so what was the point in worrying about it?

That changed however when one event of history showed the god that they and their fellow divine beings weren't immune to everything.

The eruption of Mt Vesuvius had caught a few gods by surprise. They didn't have time to prepare and had to quickly intervene to save as many people as they could.

Halara of course didn't prioritise humans, they were far too busy saving all the animals the humans had left behind to burn. They used their rings to help lift horses over the flames as they carried dogs in their arms. The flames didn’t hurt after all, but were slightly uncomfortable against their skin.

As Halara rescued some more animals, they couldn’t help but overhear a human, speaking with Aphex.

“God of Mercury, I do believe one of your own was here when this horrible disaster started.”

Aphex raised a brow as they just did their best to divert some magma, clearing paths of safety for everyone, “Huh? Who the fuck was here and didn’t warn us!?”

“They had ice hair, I believe it was the goddess of Neptune. She was napping near the temple.”

A chill shot through Halara then.

Halara knew the goddess was a heavy sleeper. If she was napping while this was happening, since she was the goddess that ruled over ice, the current climate was not ideal. They had not seen her helping with the evacuation either, so it was highly likely that the goddess was either not there, or currently stuck and unable to assist. Given her kind nature, there was no doubt that if she was awake, she would be rescuing the humans by freezing time and carrying children to safety. She cared deeply for the apes after all.

Halara marched over as they grabbed the human, spinning them around, “Where is the temple.”

The human jolted and started to stammer, that just caused Halara’s eyes to scowl, their eyes glowing with power, “Answer now.”

The human quickly pointed, “J-just west of here! You can’t miss it.”

Halara instantly took off, leaving Aphex rather confused by what he’d witnessed. As Halara ran, any creature they saw that needed help, they gave a blessing and a message, ‘Fly to safety.’

The creatures followed the command, helping each other despite the chaos. Cows letting dogs and cats ride on their backs as they suddenly floated above the destruction. Rats and mice were picked up by birds, not for food, but to rescue and get to safety. Halara knew it was not wise to mess with the ecosystem like this, but this was a desperate situation, and the animals understood that.

“Fubuki! Where are you!” Halara yelled, trudging through the hot ash falling all around them. It tingled their skin and even they started to feel a little off balance. The heat would surely kill any human at this point, but Halara still called out.

“FUBUKI!”

It was then they finally felt a small flicker of energy. It felt like cold ice trying to form, that soon melted due to the intense heat. Halara still located the spot and ran however as they moved some ruble.

There under a thick layer of ash and some rocks was Fubuki. Halara just raised their hand and used their energy to blast the ash away. The goddess was breathing heavily, their eyes unfocused as they tried to look at Halara. The god gazed in horror as part of Funuki’s ice braid appeared to have melted from the sheer heat.

Fubuki raised a shaky hand, “Halara-san… are you, alright?”

Even in this state, the goddess was putting others before herself, checking their fellow god was okay despite the distress she was in.

The god however just quickly scooped up their companion, “Breathe, it is all right now. Try not to move.”

Fubuki’s head lolled a little but she seemed to understand as she lent against Halara for support. Halara’s eyes glowed once more as they shot straight up, clearing the ash and hitting the cooler air. Still Halara looked around, ‘She needs the coldest air I can find. I have to get her to the coldest part of the planet.’

As Halara flew like a shot, the other gods looked up, feeling the explosive emotional energy from the god of Saturn. It was rare as the god never allowed themself to do such a thing, but none dared to ever ask knowing that it would only invite bad things. Besides, they had to rescue the humans. Halara could handle the situation.

Once Halara had found one of Fubuki's homes near the South pole, Halara immediately got the goddess comfortable in the icy bed she had.

The cold air seemed to get Fubuki back to her senses as she watched Halara, confusion on her face, “Halara-san?”

But Halara put a hand to her mouth, “Don't talk. Rest. Focus your power and heal yourself. That's an order.”

Fubuki blinked a few times before slowly nodding, laying down and placing her hands neatly on her stomach. As she closed her eyes Halara could see a small bluish glow around her form as she focused. Her hair was still slightly melted but thankfully it didn't look any worse.

Halara just got comfy in one of the ice carved chairs and remained there, analysing Fubuki with a critical eye. As they did, they also felt themselves start to relax, but that caused them to pause, ‘It is unlike me to get so emotional. But what was my other option? If Fubuki had gotten cooked anymore, she would have been close to losing her physical form. Who knows what would have happened after that. The energy may have killed the animals, or worse, Neptune itself may have suffered, which would have affected Pluto and Uranus, or other celestial bodies.’

As Halara kept watch, a few hours later Fubuki seemed to regenerate her braid and sighed. She carefully sat up as she looked towards her saviour, “Halara-san, I am okay. Thank you for your assistance.”

“I was only doing my duty, but I still think you should rest for the next week.” Halara uttered as they stood up.

Fubuki gasped, “But, what about my duties! I must protect the humans.”

Halara however gazed at them, glaring down from over their glasses, “I have never seen a god that was that injured before. Who knows what side effects may occur. For all our sake, you should rest. I will take on your duties while you are out of commission, but I refuse to bless any humans. I will carry everything else out flawlessly though.”

Fubuki looked a little sad, but Halara just grumbled as they grabbed a blanket and draped it over the goddess, “Just count on me, just this once.”

That seemed to get the goddess to relent as she nodded, “Alright, I will trust your judgement, Halara-san. Just don’t overwork yourself.”

“Heh, that's impossible.” Halara smugly replied.

Over the next week, Halara did as they promised. They did Fubuki's duties as agreed upon, investigating and protecting more remote areas of the planet. They even investigated places Fubuki requested they go, and when they returned, they brought back trinkets for the goddess to marvel over. Fubuki was ecstatic that Halara was doing this for them, but that just kept making more questions enter her head.

Near the end of the week, Fubuki couldn’t keep it in anymore and just had to ask.

“Halara-san, I have enjoyed your company, but I have some questions. May I request some answers?”

Halara paused for a second but nodded, “Fine, I shall do my best to answer, but you only get three at most. My time is important after all.”

Fubuki started to think hard so she didn’t waste her chance, nodding to herself as she found her words, “Why are you acting out of character?”

“Huh?” Halara seemed to sweat slightly, a tiny microexpression of confusion coating their features, “What do you mean?”

Fubuki looked down at her hands, “I am very grateful for the company while I am recharging, but I noticed that this is strange. You normally don’t even talk to your fellow gods. You keep to yourself, so why help me for a whole week when you don’t have to? Don’t you have better things to do with your time and small creatures to bless?”

Halara was oddly quiet then, but Fubuki let the god find their words. Halara simply sighed as they folded their arms, “I will admit, I am not sure myself. What I do know is out of all my fellow ethereal beings, you are the one I tolerate the most.”

Halara came over and sat on Fubuki’s bedside as they closed their eyes, “I will admit, I don’t fully understand your way of thinking, but I respect it. I have come to appreciate it when you find Earthly wonders you’ll think I’ll like as well. While It’s not the best use of time, a small break here and there is good.”

The goddess' face started to turn slightly pink hearing that, “Oh! I see. Well, thank you for your honesty. And by the one you tolerate the most, what do you mean by that?”

Halara even seemed to get embarrassed, “You have one question left after this. I… You treat me differently than most do. I normally brushed it off but even I find it… comforting. Out of anyone in this universe, if I had to pick one to be stuck for eternity with, I’d pick you.”

Fubuki seemed to slightly flush as she spoke softly, “Then… for my last question I only have one thing to ask.”

The goddess seemed extra embarrassed as she just linked that confession to the only thing she could compare it to, “Did… did you want to be in a relationship? Like how Desuhiko-san and Yuma-san are?”

That was quickly cut across by Halara letting out an indignant scoff, “Definitely not. Have you seen those two? They copulate like bunnies. I have no desire to do that. Pleasures of the flesh are for humans and for gods that have little self control, I am above that. Why? Is that something you're interested in?”

Fubuki shrugged softly, “I don't have a preference either way. I'm mainly just curious. Maybe there's another way, or perhaps a different kind of relationship we can have… Hmmm.”

The goddess then gasped as she quickly ran to her collection of trinkets, grabbing a single silver ring. She then channelled her divine power, her braid floating as she poured her energy into the piece of jewellery. Halara just watched patiently as the goddess finished her blessing, soon walking back over and holding out the ring that now floated above her palm, “Here!”

“What have you produced?” Halara enquired, a hint of curiosity in their voice.

Fubuki just smiled softly, “Should you ever need my help, please wear this. Simply put a spark of your magic into it and I'll instantly know your location! I will endeavour to come find you and help. A gesture for how kind you were for taking care of me. And, as a token, I value our… bond. I wouldn’t call it a relationship, but I too care for you Halara-san. I won’t quantify it in simple terms, as to you this isn’t simple, but still…”

Halara saw Fubuki cover her face with her free hand, “I am most sorry, I can’t seem to form the words I want to use right now.”

Halara just chuckled lightly as they stood up and took the ring, putting it on one of the few fingers they had which was free of jewellery. The ring seemed to immediately match the colour of the others, blending in as if it had always been on Halara's finger.

The silver haired god seemed to crack a small, gentle smile, “I understand the gesture behind your words, and I accept the gift. I probably will never have to make use it, but it's still kind of you.”

The god then grabbed some disregarded metal as they started to pour their own magic into it. Their rings floated away from the top of their head and danced around their arm, as Halara's eyes glowed along with their eye tattoos. Once done Halara opened their palms to reveal an intricate bracelet.

The god stood as Fubuki gazed in wonder, “To thank you, it goes around your forearm. Just like your ring, should you be in danger again, put magic into it and I will come to help you.”

They however narrowed their eyes, “Understand, this is for emergencies only. Use it to summon me to just show me something and I will take it back. Am I clear?”

Fubuki's features went serious as she nodded, “Understood! I shall use it only if I am in peril and need rescuing.”

As Fubuki took the item and slipped it onto her arm however, her eyes closed as her braid floated softly, “Thank you Halara-san, I shall cherish it for all eternity.”

When she opened her eyes, they glowed softly, “I don't say that lightly. It is a vow I give to you.”

The faintest colour of pink dusted Halara's cheeks as they looked at Fubuki's expression, ‘.... Adorable. Not as cute as a cat, but still…’

As Fubuki sat back down, Halara soon joined them, softly leaning against the goddess. As they did, Fubuki jolted, “Huh! Halara-san! You are leaning on me! Should I move, I know you hate physical contact after all.”

But Halara shook their head, “It's alright. I shall forgo my discomfort. I understand you are the opposite and enjoy it, so this once I shall do this for you.”

Fubuki's cheeks got slightly darker as she smiled, carefully putting an arm around Halara as they leaned back.

No other words were spoken as the two gods just enjoyed the peace and quiet for a little while, knowing that the vows they made to each other they would never break.

For the goddess of ice, would protect the god with the icy heart.

Notes:

Thank you for reading. I hope I wrote these two well as I've never written Clockmare before. It was just nice to write Fubuki being precious and Halara being slightly softer with her.

Next up for this AU is my story about Vivia and Melami. I'm excited to share this one about the gods of Venus and Mars. It may take me a while, but you're also welcome to guess what this particular tale will be about!

Chapter 2: Inner Turmoil

Summary:

You've heard of Vivia Twilight, God of Venus, and Melami Goldmine, Goddess of Mars, but did you know that that's not how they always were. Centuries ago, the two played the traditional role of femininity and masculinity well… but neither was happy.

It wasn't who they were at heart.

It wasn't until they decided to break from the traditional roles society had forced upon them and change. After all, Gods can change their appearance on a whim, why not their gender as well?

Melami Goldmine & Vivia Twilight, Yuma Kokohead/Desuhiko Thunderbolt, Vivia Twilight & Yakou Furio, Melami Goldmine & Yakou Furio, trans Vivia, trans Melami, light angst, gender dysphoria, gender swap, mild nudity

Notes:

First of all, Happy Birthday Vivia! While this isn't birthday themed, he is the main focus of this story, so I hope you enjoy.

Yeah, while I mainly picked Vivia for Venus as they both began with V (and one of my friends suggested it) and Melami for Mars as they both began with M, that got me thinking. You know the saying, ‘Men are from Mars and women are from Venus’, well I wanted to play around with this. So boom! In this au, Melami and Vivia are trans! I mean in Norse mythology for example, Loki and Odin changed their gender when they wished to, so why not have fun with it! Plus I wanted to have a go at writing trans characters.

Also, thank you once again for Draconic for beta reading! You are a great pal and I always appreciate when you check my work.

Let me preface this by saying I am Cisgender, so if anything is wrong or if I say something accidentally insulting please do let me know. It was not my intention at all! I just wanted to write a story of two individuals discovering who they really are and accepting themselves.

(See the end of the chapter for more notes.)

Chapter Text

*Sigh*

Vivia Twilight was just so tired. Humans were so demanding and the celestial God was just so tired of fulfilling requests asked of them. It was so much effort.

Especially since they were only asked for very specific blessings. It was just so demoralising.

“Ah! There you are!”

Vivia sighed once more, shoulders slumping, ‘Like clockwork.’

As they turned, Vivia saw a pregnant woman approach. It was obvious what was going to be asked.

“Goddess of Venus, please, I ask of you to bless my child. With your guidance I'm sure great things will happen in their future.”

Vivia, Goddess of Venus sighed, her messy hair covering one of her eyes as she slouched a little more. While she felt like she couldn't ignore the request, every time this happened she couldn't help but feel a pang of something just go through her whole soul. Vivia didn't quite know what the emotion was, but still, she didn't like the feeling it gave her.

Still, Vivia did what was asked and carefully placed a hand on the woman's belly. She could feel the spark of life inside and closed her eyes as she cast a small protection charm on both the child and mother.

As Vivia removed her hand, she slowly turned away, “It… is done.”

The woman started to thank the Goddess, but the ethereal being just started to walk away. Her eyes were heavy as she just let her feet carry her to no particular destination, letting fate decide where she'd end up.

As she walked, she couldn't help but think to herself, pondering a subject that had been on her mind for a while, ‘I’m… so tired of being asked to bless people like that. The humans assigned me the role of protector of femininity and motherhood, but I… I may look the most feminine of all the Goddesses, but I never asked for this. I just wanted to lay down and read in a nice quiet spot. This existence feels more like a burden than a life.’

As Vivia moved away from civilization, she soon found a nice serene area, untouched by mankind. Nature was noisy as well, but Vivia loved the white noise of birds chirping and bees buzzing. Vivia didn't hate Earth at all, far from it. She just found the people so demanding, especially since all she wanted was peace and quiet.

As Vivia sat and just gazed at the world around them, she soon heard plants being moved. But instead of moving, Vivia just waited as one of her fellow gods entered the forest clearing.

When they caught Vivia's glance, the God gasped, “Ah, Vivia, my apologies.”

Vivia just sighed, but still had a soft gaze, “No need to apologise. I do not own this forest. It belongs to the Earth itself… and all its wild glory. You're welcome to sit with me, Melami-kun.”

Melami, God of Mars, smiled as he perched on the log next to Vivia, “Thanks, I just had to get away from all the guys asking me to bless them and then challenging me to an arm wrestling match.” The God had a slight melancholy look on his face, “I mean, I like the humans treating me as one of their own, but I hate that it's always asking me to join them for drinks or wrestling fights. Sometimes I just want to do something else.”

“I… understand your anguish… more than others.” Vivia uttered, bringing her knees to her chest.

Melami tilted his head, a small look of understanding going across his face, “Did you get asked to bless more children again?”

She nodded as she scrunched into herself more, “Yeah…”

Melami just sighed again as he nodded, “Yeah… sometimes I wish I could just be someone else.”

As Melami uttered that, the two Gods perked up and slowly looked at each other. An idea hit both of them as Vivia gave her fellow God a kind smile, “Well, why don't we?”

Melami chuckled softly, “Are you suggesting we swap roles and see how the other lives for a while?”

Vivia nodded as she slightly straightened, “It's worth… an experiment. It is something only beings like us can do… or at least easier for us to do.”

Melami however chuckled softly, “True, we can shapeshift, but that normally requires God magic to do so, and after a while we revert back to our normal appearances.”

“Then… perhaps an audience with the God of wisdom is in order.” Vivia suggested as she finally stood up, offering her fellow God a hand. Melami took it softly as he stood up.

“Guess it couldn't hurt to contact Yakou. If anyone would know if it's possible, it would be him.”

The duo nodded as they set off.

It took a while, but they found Yakou at the godly meeting spot. The God of Jupiter at that moment was going through old meeting scrolls, looking for something. He paused his search however when he sensed his fellow Gods approaching, “Ah! Vivia-chan, Melami, what are you two doing here? We don't have a scheduled meeting here today?”

Vivia just smiled as she bowed her head softly, “Yakou-kun, a pleasure as always. Alas, our being here is not for a scholarly meeting… We have a predicament that your guidance may help solve. We wish to change, and want to know if it's possible… with our myriad of magical essence.”

Yakou looked utterly bewildered as Melami just chuckled as he rolled his eyes, “What she means is, we would like to know if it's possible to permanently alter our forms, or at least change in such a way that we don't revert back straight away. We wish to change our gender.”

“OOOOH! I see now.” Yakou nodded as his gas hair flickered slightly, “Hmmm, well I unfortunately don't have any idea I'm afraid.”

The two Gods seem to sigh in defeat, which made Yakou quickly wave his arms, “B-but I do have an idea of who we can ask!”

He seemed relieved when the light returned to their eyes as Yakou folded his arms, “There is one God after all who is a master of shape changing. So good at it in fact that no one can tell it's him when he does so. If anyone would know how to do that, it would be Desuhiko.”

Vivia nodded, putting a hand to her chin, “Ah, the God of the Sun. His sunny disposition may be a nuisance… but he may have the knowledge we seek.”

Melami put a hand on his hip, “Alright, let's go pay that shorty a visit!”

Yakou beamed as he turned to face eastward, “I have a feeling I know where he currently is. He does have a physical residence on Earth currently after all.”

The trio all nodded to each other as they took flight and followed Yakou's directions. It took a few minutes but soon they were outside the fancy stoney abode of the Sun and Moon Gods. Their home was away from human settlements but despite this, the area was inviting so humans could still reach them for advice and blessings.

Yakou arrived at the door first and knocked loudly. Despite waiting however, no answer came for several minutes. Yakou raised a brow, “Huh, I can sense them inside, that's strange.”

Vivia however just opened the door and let herself in. Yakou shook his head but soon followed, Melami shrugging as he shut the door behind him.

It was then that they realised why there had been no answer. As they walked into the lobby, they heard something coming from the master bedroom.

“Mmm~”

It sounded like Yuma's voice as he let out a whimper.

“Heh~ relax babe, it will hurt if you don't~” Desuhiko's voice called out, low and sensual.

The trio all sighed, having a pretty heavy idea what was going on. Still, Yakou continued, walking towards the open door and bracing himself for the worst.

To his surprise however, he didn't catch the lovers in any compromising positions.

Desuhiko was fully clothed and Yuma was just topless. In fact, the Sun God appeared to be giving his beloved a back massage, magical heat emanating from his hands as he skillfully worked.

Yuma was completely blissed out, his face resting on a pillow with his eyes closed as he let out little satisfied groans. Clearly the massage he was receiving was much needed judging from how stiff he was.

Desuhiko just chuckled, a look of pure adoration on his face as continued to use his fire magic in an unorthodox way, “There we go, relax My man~ I'll take good care of you~”

“Ahem!” Melami coughed.

Desuhiko jolted, almost falling off the bed, “What in the ass?!”

Yuma didn't even seem to notice as Desuhiko flushed, clearly embarrassed, “Fucking knock next time why don't cha!?”

“We did… you just didn't hear because of… well whatever this is.” Yakou countered as he gestured to the couple.

Desuhiko huffed, a tiny flicker of flame coming off his head in annoyance, “I see… Well, how may we help?”

There was clear sarcasm in his voice, but he was at least being sincere about hearing them out. It was at this moment as well that Yuma's brain had finally registered that there were other voices present. The Moon God shot up like an arrow as he turned to the intruders. When he saw who it was he flushed bright crimson, lifting a hand to wave awkwardly.

“Oh… um, afternoon Yakou-san, Vivia-san and M-melami-san. Um, please excuse m-me!”

He quickly scrambled off the bed as he rushed behind a nearby screen to get dressed. As Yuma fumbled to get himself more presentable for company, Yakou tilted his head.

“What were you two even doing?”

Desuhiko folded his arms as he scooted to the edge of the bed, “If you must know, I was giving my Precious Moonbeam a deep heat massage. He's been working too hard again and I wanted to pamper my beloved! It isn't sex 24/7 with us you know! We have other stuff we like to do during the day!”

Yakou still didn't look entirely convinced, but before Desuhiko opened his mouth again, Yuma re-emerged into the room, his tunic twinkling like the night sky itself. He had recovered from his embarrassment and gave them an inquisitive look, “How can we be of service? I assume you have a favour to ask us? I don't see you all coming this way for no reason after all.”

Vivia was about to speak as Melami put his hand up, “Let me explain it this time. We seek Desuhiko's advice.”

Desuhiko seemed to perk up then as his annoyance faded, folding his arms, “How may I help? It's strange for any of you to ask me for advice.”

Melami smiled, “We wish to shapeshift, more specifically, we want to know if we can change our current genders but for it to not wear off. We're not sure if we want it to be permanent, but for now we want to see what it's like to be each other's gender. Is it possible to do it without draining our energy? A different default look so to speak.”

The Sun God gazed before closing his eyes. He seemed to be lost in thought for a moment. Melami almost raised his voice again but Vivia held an arm up, “Sage advice takes time. Give him a moment to finish his contemplation.”

That got the God to pause as he waited. Desuhiko eventually opened his eyes as he smiled, “Hmmm, I think it is possible.”

Both Melami and Vivia both had gentle smiles as Desuhiko stood up, ushering everyone out into the garden area of his abode, “In theory, it would require a simple ritual. As you know, we update our god looks to fit in with the clothes and culture of the humans,” his gaze caught Vivia who was still dressed in her ancient Egyptian clothes, “well some of us do. Changing your genders should be along the same vein.”

Desuhiko put his hands together as he gathered his energy, “I'll try it first to see if it's possible. Don't want to get your hopes up too much after all. And if I have issues, better that it's me than you guys.”

Yakou smiled, “Always looking out for your fellow Gods.”

Desuhiko huffed in embarrassment but ignored them as he focused. Even the others could feel the concentration of power coming from him as he focused, the energy almost making the air spark with static. It took a few minutes but eventually, a light shone from around Desuhiko. The others couldn't even look at him directly. It was so blinding, but the God's form started to shift. When he finished he was still wearing the same golden himation, but now the God had longer hair that was now in two pigtails, and was a lot curvier than before. One of his boobs was on display, but that was mainly because he had been particularly topless before and didn't feel like covering up just because he had a female body now.

Desuhiko grinned, admiring his new form, “Now this is one fine female body! Hehehe!”

As Desuhiko looked at his own boobs, clearly about to grope them, Yuma quickly called out, “FOCUS!”

Desuhiko seemed to snap back to reality as he laughed, “R-right, thanks my man. Got carried away there. I'll investigate that thoroughly later.”

He cleared his throat as his demeanour changed, dismissing his horny thoughts as he focused on the task at hand, admiring his now daintier hands, “If I did it right, this should now be my default God form. Until I focus again this is my body now.”

Before Vivia and Melami could start however, Yakou perked up, “Wait… let me try this next. It may be only something Desuhiko can do due to being the Sun God, let me experiment.”

The duo were impatient but nodded as Yakou went next. The God focused his energy like Desuhiko had before, copying it flawlessly. He didn't have a blinding light going around him, but his hair exploded in a huge blue smoke screen, covering his form. After a second it recoiled back to Yakou's head, the gas now cascading down and mimicking long hair. He had a slight cleavage on display but it wasn't a dramatic change.

Yakou looked at himself and nodded, “Yeah, I think that worked. I don't feel any different aside from my physical form. I don't feel my energy depleting either!”

Vivia smiled as she lifted her arms slightly, “Then let us proceed. May our forms become what we desire.”

Melami bowed, “Reborn from the ashes!”

As the two focused their energies, Vivia was soon bathed in purple magic, similar to her spirit book. Melami however was covered in sand as the ground debris rose up and spun around her, almost making a tornado of sand and dirt. When the energy relaxed, two new figures stood in their place.

Vivia's hair was now a lot shorter, but still messy. Her form was significantly lankier, and her chest was now as flat as a board. Her cheekbones were more masculine in their appearance, while her hands were larger with more muscle definition. They looked less fragile and the Goddess looked at her new form in awe. Unlike the others, she had also altered her voice so it was lower, “This… will suffice.”

Melami however had ditched his crew cut hair and now had only shaved hair on one side. The rest were long waves that were almost like a golden waterfall. His body was far curvier and now he had thicker thighs. He brushed his fingers through his hair as he smiled, having also changed his voice to be a few octaves higher than before, “Now this is far more stylish.”

Vivia looked at her companion and smiled, “It suits you.”

“Well thank you, Vivia.” Melami gave a small bow, “You clean up nice as well.”

As the two Gods marveled at their new looks, Desuhiko soon giggled as he grabbed Yuma's hands, “Your turn, your turn!”

Yuma sweated as he looked at Desuhiko. He wasn't mad or anything, but there was some sorrow in his eyes, “Desuhiko-kun, might I remind you that I'm a satellite and not a planet God. I can't shapeshift like the rest of you can.”

Desuhiko flicked his longer hair out of his eyes as he gave his beloved a soft hug. Yuma was a little embarrassed as the Sun God was pressing his now defined chest against him and he really wasn't used to it, “Yeah, but you can change your god clothes! At least give it a try! You can change back after. I just want to see if you can. Please? For me?”

The Moon God sighed before giving Desuhiko's cheek a kiss, “Oh alright. I'll try as you asked. But don't get your hopes up.”

As Desuhiko released his husband, Yuma tried to focus his own energy. It took a little longer than the others, to the point they thought it wouldn't work, but eventually Yuma was bathed in a silver glow. Unlike Desuhiko's blinding light, this was a lot more calming and soon, Yuma had long lilac hair and fuller eyelashes. The rest of his form didn't change that much but Yuma looked at himself.

He raised a brow, “I will admit, I feel awkward like this. It doesn't feel like me.”

“That's how I feel all the time.”

The group looked as Melami crossed an arm over his chest, awkwardly gripping his other arm. The God's eyes were gazed down as a look of despair coated his features, “Every day I feel like I'm a puppet. Dancing around and playing a role I never wanted. Every time I see myself, it's like something isn't right. I tried changing my clothes but nothing worked.”

Vivia nodded in agreement, “It is the same for me… minus trying different clothes… I feel like nothing but a ghost. A phantom, forced to haunt this vessel that is not my own. It is only now for the first time… that I feel that spark of life.”

Desuhiko grinned as he looked at his fellow Gods, “Well then, why don't you try these bodies out for a week to see if they're a better fit. Heck, I'll even call Vivia he and Melami she if you like? If you prefer how you feel in these forms you should just stay that way!”

Melami gasped, “But I'm the God of masculinity and Vivia is the Goddess of femininity. The humans would never understand.”

“Yeah… and?”

The two blinked as Desuhiko looked at them both. He put out his arms as he walked towards them, “Did either of you ever want those titles? Or were they forced onto you both by the humans?”

Vivia and Melami looked completely shocked as Desuhiko continued, “Helping the humans is all well and good, but you are still individuals! Gender shouldn't be forced on you!”

He lifted his hand as a flicker of flame formed a familiar face, “Take Halara for example! They have no gender at all?! Do you see them caring what the humans think? Fuck no! They are unapologetically who they are! You’re Gods! Who gives a shit?! Break the rules and be who you want! Who in the cosmos is going to stop you?! Because I'm sure as hell ain't!”

As the flame disappeared, Desuhiko morphed himself into how Vivia looked in that moment, his voice matching the new voice the God of Venus had given himself, “Be who you are.”

And then he shifted into Melami, Goddess of Mars, “Because no one else can be you.”

As he returned to his now female form, Desuhiko chuckled, “Well, aside from me, but I can be anyone. But it's just a pale imitation compared to the original.”

The garden was silent as Desuhiko walked back towards Yuma and took his partner's hand. Yuma squeezed back and looked so proud of his husband then. Yakou smiled as he walked over, “Those were wise words.”

“I do have my moments. I am the oldest after all, even if I don't act like it.” Desuhiko chuckled.

Vivia and Melami meanwhile looked at themselves as the words sunk in. They caught each other's gazes as they nodded. Melami smiled, “Reconvene in a week?”

Vivia nodded, “Yes, that should be enough time to decide on what is our true ‘self’.”

Desuhiko clapped, “Very good! Now if you'll excuse me,” He wrapped an arm around Yuma and smirked, “I want to try out this female body with my man and not be disturbed~”

The Moon God blushed heavily as he grabbed one of the garden chair cushions and hit Desuhiko over the head with it, “Rein it in… so embarrassing.”

Desuhiko still chuckled, “I don't hear you saying no to trying it though.”

This time, the Sun God was hit in the face with some water Yuma had control over. Yuma turned to his fellow Gods and bowed profusely, “I am so sorry. Please ignore him.”

Desuhiko was laughing his ass off as he quickly dried himself with his own flames, “In seriousness though, enjoy yourselves. I'm happy to have been of service.”

Melami and Vivia gave a small bow as they headed for the exit.

Yakou shifted back to his own body and waved, “Thanks! I'll see you both later and um… have fun?”

Desuhiko gave a massive thumbs up as Yuma just blushed.

As Melami and Vivia descended down the stairs and away from the Gods abode, the two couldn't stop the soft smiles on their faces.

They were about to uncover something important after all.

And not a single being in creation could take it away from them.

A week passed by quickly for a God.

In no time at all, the two ethereal beings were together once again, locking eyes as the Sun started to set.

Vivia chuckled, “I will admit… watching the humans this week has been entertaining. I don't think they quite knew… how to remark on my new form.”

Melami chuckled to herself, “Yes! It was fun. But that is not the important thing right now. How have you been this past week?”

Vivia closed his eyes, “... The revelations of this week have… been eye opening. I think that this form is who I am… that is my decree.”

Melami just chuckled, “I'll never get used to how you say things, that's for sure. We'll never understand each other in that regard.”

The Goddess however looked at the Sun as it set, “... But I do know that this is who I am.”

Vivia nodded as he opened his eyes, “... Thank you.”

Melami laughed wholeheartedly, “I didn't do anything. We just had our eyes opened to the possibility.’

“But… had it not been for our encounter, who knows how many centuries of unhappiness would have continued to wash over us. You cast the die, fate stung us together. So I still offer my thanks.” Vivia uttered as he offered his fellow immortal a hand.

Melami took it into her own as they nodded.

Goddess of Mars and God of Venus.

That was who they were. That much was undeniable.

Notes:

I hope you enjoyed the story! It took me a while as I really wanted to write this one well! That and I was distracted with other projects and life stuff.

The next chapter is one I'm very excited to share! Yuma and Desuhiko's first meeting and how they became the husbands we know and love! Also, Enyne is getting some more screen time!

When it comes to other projects, the plan for the Werewolf X Reaper AU (Titled ‘Hallows and Howls’) is now finished so keep your eyes peeled for that soon! In fact, I am going to try and have a schedule with posting. I'm going to alternate between posting these side stories with chapters of Werewolf X Reaper AU so that these side stories don't get ignored. I hope you look forward to it.

Again, let me know if I accidentally said anything offensive. Trans rights!

Chapter 3: When we First Met, Heaven and Earth Collided

Summary:

Fate wasn't something Desuhiko, the God of the Sun, believed in at all. He was a God, he made the rules, and no one would tell him otherwise!...

… But the day he locked gazes with those mysterious purple iris for the first time changed his opinion on that.

Since that fateful encounter during a solar eclipse, Desuhiko had become completely enamoured with Yuma, God of the Moon, and vowed that for the rest of eternity, he would do everything in his power to make him happy. He just hoped his fellow immortal felt the same way he did.

Yuma Kokohead/Desuhiko Thunderbolt, Desuhiko Thunderbolt/Enyne, Desuhiko Thunderbolt & Yakou Furio, Yuma Kokohead & Yakou Furio, Yuma Kokohead & Shinigami, first meeting, fluff and angst, first kisses, love at first sight, almost cheating, mild nudity in the final scene

Notes:

It is time to finally write how our favourite god couple got together (it got very long! Almost 10k words)! I have been so excited to write this one as this is a fun story! Plus writing more Enyne is always a joy!

Also, the title is from the song Suneater which really makes me think of Kokobolt in this AU. I recommend you give it a listen!

Chapter Text

Desuhiko was incredibly bored.

So bored it was making him slightly cranky.

Yes, he was the God of the Sun, the heart of the solar system, but he wanted something more. Or at least more than what his everyday existence had become.

Everyday had become the same routine, same duty and it was mind numbingly boring. Bless humans that needed his help and keeping up appearances with his wife.

His wife of course being Enyne, Goddess of Alpha Centauri A and fellow Sun Goddess.

There was just one small problem though. He didn't love his wife. Not in that way at least. And she didn't love him.

Enyne and him after all we're in an arranged marriage. In order to prevent conflict between the two solar systems, it was decided that the two Sun Gods would be united to keep the harmony. Both just made peace with their predicament and just tried to make the best of a bad situation.

Still, Desuhiko really didn't like his life currently. He just wanted to sing, perform and have fun drinking with the humans and his fellow Gods! He wanted to party and dance the night away, free from the shackles of responsibility, but Enyne has insisted that as the most powerful Gods, it was their duty to help the humans. With no God of Earth to guide them, they were the de facto leaders and she was always doing her best to help.

Yes it was noble, and Desuhiko had immense respect for her for helping out the humans since they weren't even part of her solar system and therefore weren't her responsibility, but still, he almost had no free time. And heck, Desuhiko didn't even dislike blessing humans unlike some other Gods! The way their faces lit up with relief was amazing! The adoration they gave him felt spectacular, especially from the cute girls, and yet it had gotten to the point where it felt performative and not genuine. And he loved performing, but it still didn't feel right.

At that moment, Desuhiko was sitting on a rock as he leaned his chin on his wrist. He watched as Enyne finished giving her advice to some worshippers and came over.

“Alright, that's now all done.”

Desuhiko just nodded slowly, “Cool.”

Enyne sighed softly before trying to smile, “Hey, you did good today.”

Desuhiko looked up, still feeling the awkward air between them. Still he stood up, not wanting to be a complete asshole to his betrothed, “Thanks. You did great too. That family especially I feel will be okay now.”

The forced small talk was awkward to say the least. It was obvious that neither Gods’ heart was in it, but still, they tried.

Enyne however looked at the sky, “Right, I should probably return home for a bit. I've got to fill in the Gods of my solar system with what's going on.”

Desuhiko nodded as he took her hands, “Yeah… stay safe, okay?”

He leaned across and placed a small kiss on her cheek. Again, it felt like an act, it wasn't real, but he was at least sincere that he wanted her safe. Admits all the unhappiness, he really didn't want Enyne to get hurt.

The Goddess bowed as she chuckled softly, “Go relax. I know you need it.”

Desuhiko nodded as Enyne soon flew up into the air and away from Earth. Once he was sure she was gone he let out a small sigh of annoyance. As he scratched his head he started to walk, ‘Ugh… I need a drink… or maybe to just go sing for some village. I'll decide when I get there.’

As Desuhiko made his way across the land, levitating up into the sky to clear his head and feel the breeze, he just took in a deep breath, ‘Strange, I may be a God, free to go and do as I please, but I feel like I'm chained down, stuck with so much responsibility. I never wanted this. I wish I just had a partner who at least would listen to me and give me some comfort when needed. Like hugs or maybe a few kisses!... But I would never make Enyne do that. And like hell I'd actually cheat on her.’

The God softly glided across the ocean, enjoying the soft spray against his heated skin. Still there was a furrow in his brows, ‘Me and Enyne… neither of us are happy but it feels like we're tied together and can't escape our predicament. Like fate has us caught in its unending tide.’

Desuhiko just scoffed then, ‘Ha! Like fate exists! I'm a God! I carve my own destiny! Nothing can stop me!’

But the grin fell as the weight of responsibility came crashing down around him once again. He tried to put that aside though. After all he had centuries left of this. He needed to make the best of it or it would drive him mad.

Desuhiko had ended up laying down on a hill in the end. He was just watching the clouds go by as he listened to the ocean. It was peaceful and calming. Yes Desuhiko was the life of the party and often was always the first to jump into celebration bonfires the humans held, but even he liked a moment of respite and calm. A moment to clear his head and just be.

He sighed as the world moved by him.

That was until the sky started to go dark. Desuhiko's eyes shot open as he looked towards the Sun, ‘Huh? It's not time for sunset yet?’

But Desuhiko watched as he saw the Moon slowly moving in front of the Sun, casting a shadow across the world.

Desuhiko couldn't stop his curiosity as he sat up, ‘Oh?! This must be the solar eclipse phenomena I've heard about. Wow, this is my first time seeing one.’

He looked at the Moon, a smile forming on his lips, ‘The Moon does look pretty today.’

As he watched however, he then felt a spark of an unfamiliar energy. It felt like a freezing wind wrapping around him, almost like an icy vine.

However he knew this energy type well.

This was the signature of another God.

Desuhiko's gaze quickly shifted downwards as he looked towards the cliff edge below. There, he saw a curious sight.

Standing there was a God Desuhiko had never seen before. Their hair was a light lilac colour and their tunic was dark. It reminded Desuhiko of the night sky and if he looked closely he swore he saw the fabric twinkling.

The God seemed to sense him as well as they soon turned towards him.

Desuhiko's breath hitched.

He couldn't look away from those purple eyes with dark blue eye marks so similar to Desuhiko's own orange ones.

He felt like he was being stared into his very soul.

And Desuhiko could only think of one thing at that moment.

‘They’re beautiful.’

Desuhiko was in a daze as he stared. The other God blinked a few times before their face morphed into something else.

Pure terror.

That seemed to help Desuhiko get his bearings as he realised that this God was terrified of him.

Desuhiko stood up, “H-hey, it's okay. I'm not gonna hurt you.”

The God however jolted before they just flew back towards the sky like a shot, flying towards the Moon that currently covered the Sun.

“Wait, stop!”

Desuhiko gasped as he reached up towards the ethereal being, “What's your name?”

But the God just kept flying. They didn't even turn back and Desuhiko was dumbfounded as he was left there, hand stretched towards the eclipse before him.

The sky was completely dark now and Desuhiko couldn't help but marvel at the magic of it all, but there was one other magical being that had caught his interest.

Desuhiko lowered his arm back down as he continued to gaze at the eclipse. His eyes soon went back to where the God had been before as he raised a hand to his face, ‘That God… they were stunning.’

Desuhiko covered his mouth as a tiny flicker of flame came off his hair, ‘I don't know if they were a boy, girl or other like Halara, but I do know I want to see them again.’

Desuhiko couldn't stop the small smile that coated his lips, ‘Maybe today wasn't so bad.’

Desuhiko had hoped to see the God once again in the wild, but he looked everywhere when he got the chance during the following week and nothing.

That past week those purple eyes had dominated his mind. He had tried so hard to focus on his God duties but his brain had decided that that wasn't fucking happening.

At the end of the seven day mark, Desuhiko put his foot down, ‘Fuck it. I should go visit them instead. They seem skittish but I want to know more about them. Maybe they'll be more comfortable if the interaction is on their home turf.’

Was Desuhiko really only trying to justify his actions, yeah, he was. But all he wanted to do was talk. To meet the God again and exchange names, and learn more about them. Desuhiko looked up at the glowing silver rock as he focused, ‘They flew towards the Moon so I'm guessing that's their celestial body. I had no idea that Satellites could have Gods… but maybe since Earth doesn't have a God, the universe made an exception.’

Desuhiko floated up, making sure to fly steady and once he left the Earth's atmosphere, he slowed down before adjusting his feet and carefully landing on the Moon's surface. Desuhiko took a breath as he looked around.

Unlike the hussle and bussle of Earth, it was cold and quiet. No birds or insects chirping and filling the air.

Just dead silence.

But Desuhiko still closed his eyes as he tried to find the God from before, trying to locate their energy signature.

Thankfully he didn't have to wait long as he soon heard a yelp. Desuhiko turned to see that lilac hair disappearing into a nearby crater.

Desuhiko put his arms up, “Hey, it's okay. I'm not gonna hurt you.”

The God seemed to slowly peek over the edge and Desuhiko waited. It took a minute or so but the God opened their mouth.

Q̷̧̡̘͑́u̸̞͌i̶͚̦̺̙̠̇͠s̶̡̏̏͑͆͠ ̴͕̠̾͗͌́͐̍e̸̢̧̩̺̣̫̒͐͆͊͝ś̸̘̦̝̖̼̜̉͌̚͠?̵̱̯͎͎̹̉̈́͑̔͝

Desuhiko blinked before nodding, ‘Oh right. The old God tongue. They mustn't know the language the humans use.’

Desuhiko just thought for a moment before nodding. He quickly shrinked his height so he was closer to this God's own stature to be less intimidating before he did his best to speak telepathically to the being. He could communicate emotions better this way after all.

‘Do not worry. I mean you no harm.’

The God jolted but Desuhiko shared his calm emotions with them. That seemed to work as the God finally replied, copying Desuhiko.

‘... What was that language you spoke? I don't know it.’

Desuhiko smiled, sharing his amusement but also conveying his more peaceful intentions, ‘It is the language the humans below speak. May I transfer the knowledge to you? You'll be able to speak it too if you allow me.’

The God finally got out of the crater as he nodded, slowly walking towards Desuhiko, ‘Sure.’

Desuhiko did his best to not overwhelm this new God, but the two closed their eyes as Desuhiko shared the string of knowledge, their eye tattoos glowing softly. After a few moments both Gods opened their eyes and the purple haired being opened his mouth.

“Why did you follow me?”

Desuhiko couldn't stop his smile. This God didn't beat around the bush and he couldn't help but find it amusing.

“Curiosity.”

The God's eyes narrowed as they walked around Desuhiko in a circle, almost seeming to analyse every part of him. Desuhiko felt a bit exposed, but he didn't mind being the focus of those beautiful eyes.

Once the God was satisfied, they stopped back in front of Desuhiko, “Are you… like me?”

“A God?” Desuhiko smiled, “Yes I am. In fact my celestial body is right there.”

Desuhiko pointed towards the Sun. The God sharply turned before they gasped, “The fireball in the centre?”

Desuhiko nodded before he focused. He let off a small solar flare from his true body and the God gaped in wonder. Desuhiko saw his eyes sparkle softly and Desuhiko knew then that he needed to ask an important question.

“I'm Desuhiko, what's your name?”

The God turned back to Desuhiko, a small blush on his cheeks, “Oh yeah. Um, it's Yuma.”

He looked at the floor, picking up some of the silver dust on the ground, “I am the God of this rock.”

Desuhiko chuckled which made Yuma eyebrows furrow once again, “What's so funny.”

“Sorry.” Desuhiko composed himself, “This rock? Dude, if you want to know, humans call you the Moon.”

“The… Moon?” Yuma's eyes seemed to light up as he hummed. There was a small nod as he released the dust from his fingers, “I prefer that name.”

Desuhiko smiled, finally relaxing his body a little, “How long have you been here for?”

Yuma's eyes seemed to twitch in annoyance as he folded his arms, “I don't like all these questions, Desuhiko-san.”

“Sorry, I'm just curious. It's not every day you meet a new God.” Desuhiko uttered, trying to not annoy Yuma further. He didn't know why but his chest was doing flips and he just wanted to know more.

Yuma let out a sigh, “For as long as I can remember I've been here. I started as just energy, but looking at Earth I saw… humans is what you called them, right? Well, I soon got this body after.”

Yuma's eyes seem to fall, “It's… very quiet and lonely here.”

Desuhiko couldn't have that now. That sad face needed to be fixed immediately!

“Sorry, I have another question, but can I visit you more then?”

Yuma seemed shocked as he looked at Desuhiko once again who had a soft, warm smile, “If you don't want to be lonely, I can offer some company, if you don't mind that is? I have been told I'm the life of the party!”

Yuma's cheeks went a little red again but he held out his hand, “Sure… just please don't spook me again next time.”

“No problem, Yuma!” Desuhiko beamed as he took Yuma's hand in his own. It was very cool to the touch, but still, it wasn't bad.

“And hey, if you visit Earth again I'd be more than happy to show you around! I'll be your personal tour guide!”

Yuma seemed to both look nervous but also let out a small chuckle, “Well, I'll think about that.”

God Desuhiko felt his heart pang at that chuckle. It was too adorable.

As Yuma released his hand he looked towards the green and blue planet, “Besides, it's the only planet I can seem to travel to. I only went there a while ago because an interesting phenomenon was happening that intrigued me.”

“Interesting phenomenon?” Desuhiko mused before he gasped, “Oh! You mean the solar eclipse! I got ya!”

But Desuhiko then folded his arms, “Wait, what do you mean it's the only planet you can visit?”

“Are you not stuck?” Yuma tilted his head before sweat went down his temple, “I can only travel from this ro-... The Moon and Earth, whenever I try to go to other planets I can't. It's like an invisible force is pulling me back and stopping me.”

Desuhiko brows furrowed again, “Strange, no other God has that issue. Only thing similar is that the planet gods can't leave the solar system. Only me and Enyne can do that.”

Yuma just looked confused, “Planet Gods?”

Desuhiko shook his hand, “Not important right now. For now I'll take my leave. I don't want to stress you out after all.”

Yuma blinked, surprise on his face, “Oh? You're leaving?”

Desuhiko nodded, “Yeah, as much as I'd like to stay, I better head back before others come to investigate. You don't want to be overwhelmed right?”

Yuma nodded quickly, “Y-yeah. This has been a lot.”

Desuhiko waved, “Well then, I'll come by again soon. Talk to you later, Yuma.”

Yuma just bowed, “Oh, um, till we meet again.”

Desuhiko soon lifted up as he floated back towards Earth. As he did, Desuhiko couldn't stop his face from heating up.

‘Yuma… God of the Moon. Wow, he's so adorable! I really hope he visits Earth again so I can show him around!’

But that just made Desuhiko realise something, ‘Wait… is this the most I've ever cared about someone?’

Not long after Yuma's and Desuhiko's first encounter, Desuhiko ended up paying a visit to Yakou, God of Jupiter.

This hadn't been Desuhiko's plan, but he just hadn't been able to get Yuma out of his head and needed some sage advice from the God of Wisdom.

Yakou waved as Desuhiko approached, “Ah! Desuhiko! It's good to see you… huh, did you get shorter?”

Desuhiko waved his hand, “You're imagining it.” But that was a lie. Desuhiko had actually focused his power and made himself permanently shorter so as not to spook Yuma for any potential surprise visits.

Yakou just shrugged, “So, what brings you here?”

Desuhiko was quiet for a second before sighing, “How do you deal with feelings.”

Yakou rolled his eyes, “You're not in love with a mortal girl. You're just thinking with your dick. That is not the same as lo-”

“Nononono!” Desuhiko quickly cut across, “Nothing like that! Seriously, how little do you think of me?!”

Yakou just gave him a look, his gas hair twitching for a second as Desuhiko rolled his eyes, “Yeah, I heard it. Anyway!”

Desuhiko put his hands together, “Why I ask is… there's a new God.”

Yakou's eyes went wide as Desuhiko continued, “And… he has beautiful eyes. Just the way he smiles and his laugh. I could listen to it forever.”

Yakou just let out a tiny smirk as he folded his arms, “Uh huh… and how tall is this new God?”

Desuhiko's cheeks went bright red then, “... About the same height I am currently.”

“I see.” Yakou chuckled before he put a hand on Desuhiko's shoulder, “Even as God's, we can't help how we feel.”

Desuhiko groaned as he put a hand to his face, “Yes, I know that! But what I mean is I have a wife, but Yuma won't get out of my head!”

“Yuma? That's a nice name.” Yakou remarked as Desuhiko turned, the ground smoking a little.

“Yakou?! What should I do?! You're the wise one! Help me deal with this!”

Desuhiko looks so vulnerable and helpless then. Yakou just sighed as he folded his arms, “There are some things I can't help with. After all…” Yakou looked at Desuhiko sternly, “... you already know the answer after all. I can't just tell you what you want to hear… or rather, I won't.”

Desuhiko pouted, “... I know. God I hate it when you're right.”

“Curse of being the God of Wisdom.” Yakou muttered as he ruffled Desuhiko's hair.

The Sun God just muttered quietly to himself.

Of course, Desuhiko's strange behaviour had been noticed by another.

Enyne looked at Desuhiko from over her glasses as Desuhiko finished blessing some crops for a bountiful harvest, “... You're acting strange.”

Desuhiko however just waved his hand, “I'm just excited as I have new song ideas.”

Now that wasn't a complete lie. He had been trying to craft Yuma a welcome to Earth song after all. Was it cheesy, yes, but he wanted to show off his skills to the new God and make him feel welcomed.

Enyne glared more before shrugging. Desuhiko still felt bad for his fib, but he just couldn't stop thinking about Yuma. He was scared it was becoming a little obsessive, but honestly, he did just want to help him.

Thinking of the Moon God and his isolation and loneliness, he hated it. He couldn't bear the sad look Yuma had in his eyes. Desuhiko considered himself good at reading people and he knew Yuma wanted those connections, he was just scared as well because it was unknown. Desuhiko wanted to help so badly.

Was it foolish, yes.

But he just wanted Yuma to be happy.

Desuhiko just stretched his arms, “Well, if my job is done for the day I'm gonna head off. Catch you later Enyne!”

Desuhiko just sauntered off to go meet Yuma. He wanted to talk to him and discuss his trip to Earth. Make an itinerary of sorts.

As he walked away though there was one thing he forgot to do.

He didn't kiss Enyne on the cheek like he normally did.

And Enyne picked up on that.

The Goddess adjusted her glasses as she looked at Desuhiko's ever growing smaller figure slowly flying upwards.

“...”

“And this is one of my favourite rivers!”

Desuhiko looked so proud as he showed Yuma around his favourite wonders of Earth.

“Wow!”

While Yuma had been very nervous at the start of the visit, he was slowly starting to open up and relax. He currently held his finger up as a dragonfly landed softly on it.

The way Yuma's eyes sparkled in joy made Desuhiko feel extra happy. Just seeing Yuma enjoy himself made everything worth it. As the creature flew away Yuma smiled, “There's so much life here! And the noises! The constant noise! Those birds are singing, the insects are making a variety of sounds too! It's so different than on the Moon!”

Desuhiko just chuckled, enjoying every excited expression Yuma had. He was so proud he was helping Yuma have these experiences.

As they continued on their travels though, Desuhiko's eyes shot open before he glared. Yuma looked confused but Desuhiko just turned towards some trees. He soon heard a familiar smug voice.

“Well well well, so the rumours are true. There's a new God walking around like they own the place.”

Desuhiko was immediately on edge as he put an arm out to protect Yuma, “... What do you want, Yomi.”

The God of Pluto walked forward, his eyes scanning the new edition to their celestial pantheon.

Yuma couldn't help but sweat but still bowed softly, “Um… nice to meet you.”

Yomi ignored him however as he scoffed. Desuhiko's eyes narrowed more as Yomi laughed, “Wow. You really think you can talk to me like an equal? That's rich.”

Yomi's eyes went dark, “You're not even a planet God. You're just the God of some dumb glowing rock. Pathetic.”

The second that Yomi uttered those words however, Desuhiko summoned his Godly halberd, pointing it towards the God. His eyes were serious as he protected Yuma.

Desuhiko's tone was deathly cold, devoid of all cheer, “Back off. That's an order.”

Yuma seemed shocked but still stayed behind Desuhiko as his gaze went back to Yomi.

The God of Pluto just chuckled, “My~ it's rare to see the Sun God get this worked up about anything. He's normally just a silly party animal without a single worthwhile thought in his head, someone who doesn't care about anything. Just a dumb clown who performes for the apes at a moment's notice. Guess you really care about this mutt, huh.”

Desuhiko's hair ignited then, Yuma gasping as he took a step back, but Desuhiko was focused, “I'm warning you Yomi. Walk away.”

Yomi just put his arms up in surrender, “Calm your jets. I'm going. Neither of you are worth my time anyway.”

As Yomi walked away, he just chuckled again, stealing one final glance. Desuhiko just shot him the finger before sighing. His hair started to relax before he looked at Yuma. The God wasn't exactly scared, but looked confused.

Desuhiko put a hand to his head, “S-sorry. Lost my cool there.”

“I… I take it you don't like Yomi-san.” Yuma uttered, trying to laugh to lighten the mood.

Desuhiko nodded, “Yeah. He's a fucking asshole. Takes advantage of everyone else and enjoys watching the humans fight each other. He only blesses those who worship him. He loves to alter human minds as well.”

Desuhiko took a breath and he placed the bottom of the halberd on the ground. As he did Yuma gazed at the weapon.

“So, you have a weapon as well?”

Desuhiko turned and grinned as he carefully twirled the weapon, flames coming off the blade edge as he did, “Oh yeah! Every God has their holy weapon! Mine is a golden shimmering Halberd! When I swing it flames come off it! Pretty cool huh? I'm not the biggest fan of it but it does the job!”

He smiled as he gazed at the sun motif on the shaft of the weapon, “Fubuki, Goddess of Neptune for example has a trident made of ice as she's got ice powers! Our weapons reflect our abilities after all.”

Yuma looked at his hands, “Does that mean… I also have a holy weapon?”

Desuhiko dismissed his blade as he smiled, “Yeah! All Gods have one. I can teach you how to summon it if you want?”

He nodded softly as Desuhiko carefully stood behind him. He carefully held the back of Yuma's hands in his own palms. That made Yuma blush a little, not expecting Desuhiko to invade his personal space, but he turned and saw Desuhiko's eyes and eye marks glowing softly, “Focus your energy. Try to imagine the blade in your hands, all your power manifested into a single object of power.”

Yuma couldn't help but gulp but soon shut his eyes as he did his best to focus. Desuhiko continued to cradle his hands as he carefully brought them up, “Think of your blade defending what you care about most. Let it guide your hand. The power of your soul.”

Yuma seemed to relax as he focused on his font of power within himself. He felt a small spark, and what was almost like a wave of energy washed over him. It cradled his form as he exhaled. He willed this energy into his palms and scrunched his eyes.

‘I want to protect Desuhiko-kun.’

He then felt something cold form in his hands.

Both gods opened their eyes to see Yuma now holding a sword. Its dark blue blade looked like the night sky, and the guard was golden and in the shape of three moons. Two crescents with a full Moon in the middle.

Desuhiko took a step back as Yuma lifted the blade up. As he did the Sun God couldn't help but mutter softly, “... It's spectacular.”

Yuma couldn't help but chuckle, “I did it.”

He turned to Desuhiko who's cheeks were suddenly a little pink. Yuma was confused by this until Desuhiko pointed at the pommel of the new weapon, “Um… did you purposely put Sun iconography onto it?”

Yuma looked and saw that the pommel was indeed half the Moon, and half the Sun. Now he was also blushing as he carefully touched it, “I, err, I don't remember doing that, but maybe it's because you helped me. We met during the eclipse so maybe this is reflecting that as the Moon is covering the Sun.”

Desuhiko just went even more crimson as he nodded, “T-that makes sense.”

Both men couldn't help but feel awkward about the situation, but Desuhiko quickly clapped, “Anyway, just dismiss that and we'll continue on this tour! I have more places to show you after all!”

Yuma nodded, managing to make the blade vanish before he walked over. In a fit of bravery he took Desuhiko's hand firmly in his own.

“Lead the way.”

Desuhiko seemed to pause before smiling, holding Yuma's hand softly back. Yuma smiled, enjoying the subtle warmth coming off the Sun God.

It took a month or so, but Desuhiko managed to convince Yuma to meet another God. It took a while as Yuma had been scared by Yomi, but he had agreed to meet Yakou after much reassurance that he was in fact a nice guy and not an asshole like the red head.

Plus when Desuhiko explained he was the God of Wisdom, Yuma thought he might be able to get some answers about why his existence was different from the others.

When the Gods arrived, Yakou was very welcoming, “Ah, Desuhiko! Is our guest with you?”

Desuhiko grinned, holding Yuma's hand, “Yes he is! Yuma, meet Yakou, God of Jupiter!”

Yuma quickly bowed, “Nice to meet you!”

Yakou waved his hand, “No need to be so formal. We're both Gods after all!”

Yuma still nodded, “I still appreciate you agreeing to meet me. And for helping me with questions I have.”

“Hey, it's what I'm here to do. So, what exactly are your questions?” Yakou grinned as he sat down.

Yuma sat down on the stone slab opposite and smiled, “Well, I want to know more about my abilities. And my weird limitations.”

Yakou nodded softly, “I see. Well I can use the full extent of my powers if I read your soul. To do so I'll need to put my hand on your chest, are you okay with that Yuma? It will feel… strange though.”

Yuma was embarrassed about it but nodded softly, “Sure. I can cope with that if it means I get some answers.”

Yakou nodded as he carefully placed his right palm on Yuma's chest. Yuma was a little embarrassed but then gasped when he felt magic go around him. It was strangely comforting but it still felt weird, like Yakou was gazing at every part of his soul.

Yakou now knew his entire being. Every nerve was laid bare before him.

After a few moments Yakou removed his hand and Yuma let out a sigh as the power left him. He was breathing a little heavy as the energy dissipated.

Yakou chuckled, “Yeah, it can be intense. Hence why I don't use it very often.”

Yakou however folded his arms, nodding to himself, “That was interesting though. Yuma, as the Moon is linked to the tides of the ocean, I saw you have the ability to move water to your will, hydrokinesis to be exact. You can also seem to have some wind powers and the same mind altering powers all us Gods have. In a way you control the two elements Desuhiko can't.”

His face then fell, “However, I can say that you will never be able to visit other planets.”

Yuma's eyes went wide, “How come?”

Yakou sighed, “As part of your limitations of being a satellite and not a planet, you can only travel from your celestial body and the planet you orbit. I'm sorry. We can't even hold you and fly you there. You also appear to be unable to shapeshift like the rest of us can.”

Yuma's face fell as he closed his eyes, “... I'm so weak.”

But the second he said that Yuma felt arms around him. His eyes shot open as he saw Desuhiko hugging him tightly. It felt like a warm cloth had been wrapped around his body and he couldn't help but want to sink into that heat.

He stopped himself though as he blinked, “Desuhiko-kun?”

“You're not weak.”

Yuma's eyes went even wider as Desuhiko held him, “You're amazing and powerful. You're a God and even if you can't travel to other worlds, you're still one of us! Don't you dare think so lowly of yourself!”

Yuma couldn't stop his blush then as a huge smile coated his face. As he did, Yuma's hair sparkled silver, like it was glowing like the Moon itself. Desuhiko now had his breath taken away at the sight.

Desuhiko's eyes sparkled as the glow reflected in them. As he did he breathed out softly, “Beautiful.”

As he said that his hair ignited as his face turned bright red.

The duo were both blushing hard and Yakou just chuckled quietly to himself, ‘Oh they're down bad for each other. Desuhiko, don't screw this up by being a fool.’

Once the two had finally managed to calm down, Yakou offered them drinks and the trio just talked about random things.

As Yuma sat and enjoyed his alcoholic beverages, a strange sensation came over him. He shut his eyes as a strange sense of vertigo went over him. He huffed softly and opened his eyes to apologise and blame it on the booze.

But when he did he was somewhere completely different.

It was a dark world. The ground was black but appeared to be some sort of liquid, and yet he didn't fall into those murky depths. He just stayed on top of it.

Yuma quickly looked around, panic setting in. As he did a few floating orbs came towards him. Yuma stepped back, his feet splashing on the water surface. As he did, heard a laugh.

“My, I see a new God has entered the playing field.”

Yuma whipped around and saw something strange. A throne of skulls was before him, and perched on top was a woman. She had horns and two long, pink plaits. Sat atop her head was an extravagant crown. Her outfit sparked and on the back of her hands were purple gemstones. She looked very regal.

She smirked as she looked at Yuma.

“Kya-kya-kya! So, we meet!”

Yuma gasped as he looked around the dark void, “W-who are you? And where am I!?”

The woman floated off her throne before she came over, grinning, “I'm surprised you don't know! Well let me enlighten you, Little God! I am Shinigami-chan! Goddess of Death and you are in my domain now! Nice to meet you, God of the Moon!”

Yuma looked shocked, “G-goddess of Death?”

“Oh calm your pretty head! I'm not here to kill you.” Shinigami chastised before smiling, “I just wanted to meet the God linked to mysteries.”

Yuma seemed to look confused, “M-mysteries?”

The woman nodded, “Yes! Didn't you notice that you were drawn to Earth because of a mystery? The mystery of the Solar Eclipse! And you're still there because of the mystery of Earth! Of its creatures and humans! In fact, you had the mystery about yourself nagging at you that just got solved thanks to the Fuzz Head!”

She then smiled, “And of course, your current personal mystery of the strange feelings you have for that Sun God.”

Yuma couldn't help but flush but Shinigami just cackled, “Kya-kya-kya! Don't worry. I don't really care. Plus it will be satisfying to watch when you finally solve that case! I simply called you here because I enjoy mysteries and wanted to meet you.”

Yuma got his chest under his control, “I see. And you kidnapped me to do that?”

She gasped dramatically, “I didn't kidnap you! Your body is still on Earth! I'm talking to your soul, after all you're in a pocket dimension right now! My domain! Once I return you it will be as if nothing happened. You'll remember this encounter, but your drinking buddies will be none the wiser! It will be like you just blinked.”

Yuma was surprised at this as the Goddess floated around him, checking him out, “You must have a lot of power to do that.”

Shinigami simply poked him a few times, making Yuma squirm a little, “Kya-kya-kya! Well I am the most powerful Goddess in the entire universe! I can do a few things you Gods can't.”

Yuma quickly stepped away as the Goddess poked his chest, “H-hey… I don't mean to be rude but can you return me home now? I don't like this interrogation.”

Shinigami sighed, “Fine fine, but allow me to give you something to wet that mystery appetite of yours.”

Now Yuma wanted to ignore her, to not give in, but even he couldn't help but looked intrigued at that moment. Shinigami picked up on the look and smirked, “I told you. You really are horny for mysteries.”

Yuma went to argue but the Goddess cut across, “In your Solar system, there are six other planet Gods you have yet to meet. Mercury, Venus, Mars, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune. Wouldn't it be fun to meet them and discover what they're like?”

Yuma wanted to say it was scary, but thinking about Desuhiko and Yakou and how interesting they were just made a strange look appear on Yuma's features. He put a hand to his chin as he thought, “Well, it would be interesting to learn what they're all like. And Desuhiko-kun hasn't said anything bad about anyone aside from Yomi-san.”

“There you go! And with that my work is done!” Shinigami chuckled, “Oh, and before I forget, I'll teach you how to get back here should you ever need my advice.”

As Shinigami explained the process of the summoning ritual, Yuma listened intently, nodding when the Goddess had finished.

“Just so you know, it's a special privilege to have this knowledge. Only Gods who have earned my favour learn it so you better be grateful!” Shinigami smiled softly, a proud look on her features.

Yuma however just gave her a genuine smile as he bowed, “Thank you very much. I'll make sure to only call on you if it's serious. You're the Goddess of Death so you're probably very busy. I'd hate to distract you from your duties.”

The sincere thank you made the Goddess pause momentarily. A look of genuine surprise went across her face before the first genuine smile Yuma had seen from her coated her lips, “You really are a special one.”

But soon a giant grin appeared, “Alrighty! Time to send you home! See you later, Little God!”

And with a flick of her wrist, a purple flash of energy went around Yuma and he was soon gone from the pocket dimension.

As Shinigami sat back on her throne and closed her eyes, she still couldn't stop the tiny smirk, ‘Little does he know but I didn't mention Enyne, the Shorty’s wife. I look forward to watching that trainwreck unfold, Kya-kya-kya!’

Still the Goddess’ expression changed to one of seriousness, ‘Right, I did Life Boy’s request. Time to inform him on what I found out about his little Satellite.’

It took several months until Yuma and Desuhiko saw each other again. Desuhiko unfortunately had been pretty busy with his God duties and Yuma was slowly meeting the other Gods during their time apart. Desuhiko was so proud he'd been getting more confident to meet them without him, but he still was annoyed he'd hadn't been able to meet the Moon God himself.

When he finally had some free time, Desuhiko met Yuma by the ocean. As Desuhiko approached, he noticed that the water was attracted to Yuma's feet.

Desuhiko chuckled, “You're controlling the tide!”

“Yes.” Yuma smiled softly as he kept looking out to sea, “I wanted to practice my water powers.”

Desuhiko chuckled more, “Show me what you got!”

Yuma chuckled nervously, “I'm still a novice, I still can't control it well.”

But the Sun God laughed, “Well I'll help you practice! I helped you channel your energy before with your God weapon after all!”

Yuma shook his head, “No, I want to do this myself, but thank you.”

Desuhiko nodded and was quiet as Yuma focused his power. The ocean water rippled here and there but Desuhiko was silent so Yuma could focus. It took some time but Yuma eventually managed to make some water lift up and dance around his arm. He smiled as he swirled the water around his body and laughed.

Desuhiko clapped, “You're a master!”

Yuma then got a mischievous look in his eyes. Before Desuhiko could ask what was happening, the water Yuma was controlling hit him square in the face. Desuhiko gasped before a cheeky grin went on his features, “Oh it's on!”

Desuhiko couldn't control the water, but he flicked the liquid with his hands up towards Yuma. Yuma meanwhile just levitated up. Even Desuhiko was impressed.

“Hey! You learned to float!”

Yuma chuckled, “It's basically just flying. Halara-san gave me some tips as they were disgusted that I couldn't. I believe their line was, ‘A God must be flawless and carry themselves with pride.’ So I did my best to master the basics so I could show you when we next saw each other!”

Desuhiko chuckled as Yuma controlled more water and threw it towards Desuhiko. Desuhiko meanwhile used the sand as a shield to absorb the attack. The two Gods continued to laugh as they tried to catch the other. They flew across the ocean as Yuma fired more water projectiles. Desuhiko just twisted and turned as he looped in the air, laughing so hard.

This is what he missed, being free from responsibly and enjoying the world. Yuma rejuvenated that joy with his whimsy and zest of life.

Desuhiko was determined to win however as he soon cut Yuma off and body slammed into him. The two headed straight for the sandy beach and landed with a thud. The two boys couldn't stop laughing as they tumbled across the beach, Desuhiko landing on top of Yuma.

“Got ya!”

Yuma chuckled more, “You did! Great job!”

The two continued to laugh, Desuhiko leaning against Yuma's chest as they caught their breaths.

But then it dawned on them both.

Both boys looked at each other.

Desuhiko was on top of Yuma, pinning him to the ground. Their bodies flush against one another.

They both slowly turned bright red.

Desuhiko's hair soon caught fire once again.

Yuma's hair also started glowing brightly.

But… neither God made an attempt to move.

Yuma simply looked at Desuhiko's hair, “... Your fire looks warm.”

Desuhiko looked at Yuma's hair, “... Your glow is beautiful.”

Yuma flushed an even darker crimson, “You say that a lot about me… do you really think that?”

Desuhiko could only just nod as he mumbled, “The… prettiest.”

The tension in the air was electric. Yuma's eyes became lidded as he looked at Desuhiko's lips. Desuhiko saw and instinctively leaned down. Yuma tried to lean up to meet him. Desuhiko couldn't help but find that incredibly hot. It could have just been instinct but Yuma seemed to want the same thing as him.

He was overjoyed.

But as he got closer to Yuma's lips, images of Enyne flooded his brain.

And that snapped him out of his lust driven mind.

“Wait!”

Yuma looked confused as Desuhiko scrambled up.  Desuhiko just shook his head, “I can't.”

The Moon God looked hurt as he sat up, “Is… is it because I'm not a planet?”

“What!? No!?” Desuhiko looked horrified as he sighed, “Trust me, I want to.”

“Then, why? Do you think I don't want this? Desuhiko-kun I care about you and want this too. Sure I didn't realise till just now what it was but I like you.” Yuma uttered, his face looking so hurt.

That killed Desuhiko. Hearing that only made him ache more and he knew now that he had to come clean.

Desuhiko gulped, “... I have a wife.”

The shocked look on Yuma's face was heartbreaking, but it was soon replaced with rage. Yuma grit his teeth as he started to levitate off the ground slightly, “What, so you just led me on?!”

As he did, the ocean around Yuma started to rise, ready to completely drown Desuhiko. The Sun God wasn't sure if Yuma knew what he was doing or if it was just his powers acting on their own to mirror the Gods volatile emotions. Yes, he knew he wouldn't drown as he could breathe underwater, but he still wanted to calm Yuma down. To fix the pain he caused.

Desuhiko shook his arms, “No… Yuma, it's an arranged marriage. I don't love her.”

Yuma's rage started to slowly relax as the sea calmed, but Yuma still looked hurt, “What do you mean? Explain, now.”

Desuhiko sighed, “Her name is Enyne, she's the Goddess of Alpha Centauri A. A fellow Sun God. Our two solar systems, to make sure tensions wouldn't rise, decided that we should get married to keep the peace. I don't love her… but-”

He shut his eyes, “-I still made vows to her and I can't betray her by kissing you. Even if I want to, I'm not that kind of guy.”

Yuma was silent for a moment before he walked over. Desuhiko was expecting to be slapped for his deceit, but instead Yuma took his hand in his own. Desuhiko opened his eyes and saw Yuma looked at him with a soft expression, “I… I appreciate your honesty. But that leaves one thing, what do you plan to do now?”

Desuhiko looked at their linked hands, “I… I don't know. I don't love her, but I don't know what will happen if I don't keep up appearances.”

Desuhiko couldn't help it as tears escaped his eyes. Yes they almost evaporated immediately, but Yuma still saw the steam, “I really like you, Yuma. I've never felt this way about anyone before, but… I can't betray her, not like this.”

Yuma put a hand to Desuhiko's eyes and carefully dried what he could with his thumb, placing his other hand on his shoulder, “Desuhiko-kun, you need to talk to your wife.”

Desuhiko nodded as Yuma continued, “If you're not happy, she probably feels the same. You two need to discuss this.”

Desuhiko smiled as he let out a dry laugh, “God I wish I could kiss you. You're far too kind for your own good.”

Yuma smiled as he instead kissed Desuhiko's cheek. Desuhiko's hair still ignited once again as he squeaked before Yuma hugged him close.

Desuhiko simply sighed as he hugged back.

‘I need to talk to Enyne.’

Desuhiko had made up his mind. After his interaction with Yuma and coming to terms with his feelings, he needed to break things off with Enyne. But he wanted to do it so it wouldn't result in a war between their two solar systems. It was a fragile situation but he was prepared to do whatever he must.

Finding his wife was pretty easy thankfully and the Goddess seemed to know something was up.

Enyne folded her arms, “... Just tell me.”

Desuhiko looked at the Goddess as he breathed in, “I'm not happy.”

Enyne lowered her arms as Desuhiko continued, “I'm not happy with this arrangement. I can't do it any longer.”

Enyne’s eyes narrowed but Desuhiko just looked her dead in the eyes, “I love someone else. I'm sorry but I can't keep up this alliance anymore. I'm not happy but I refuse to cheat on you either. So please… Can we break it off? I'll come with you to talk to the Gods of your solar system as well so war doesn't break out. I just… I can't do it anymore. You deserve better.”

He braised for Enyne to get mad but instead he heard… laughing?

He looked up to see the Goddess laughing hard. She rubbed her eyes as she looked at Desuhiko, “Thank goodness one of us finally said it.”

Desuhiko was surprised as Enyne smiled, “Do you really think you were being slick? I've been watching you and Yumoon for a while, you know.”

Desuhiko's blood froze, “You… you saw us?”

She nodded as she smiled, “Yes. Nice awkward flirting by the way. Even I had to admit, a few times you actually came off like a sweet dork.”

Desuhiko pouted, clearly embarrassed, but he still looked at her, “If you knew why didn't you say anything?”

“To see your reaction.” Enyne chuckled, “I may not love you, but you are so fun to tease~”

“Wow, okay fuck you.” Desuhiko uttered before quickly waving his hands, sweating hard, “Shit! No sorry! That just slipped out.”

But Enyne was only laughing harder, “Stop! I'm gonna fall over!”

As Enyne recovered from her hysterics, she wiped her eyes as she looked at Desuhiko with compassion,  “I think you should follow your heart.”

Desuhiko was still confused and remained frozen to the spot, gawking at her. Enyne rolled her eyes as she leaned down and flicked his nose, “Dude, go get him! I'm giving you my blessing, dumbass.”

That seemed to get the message into Desuhiko's head as Enyne just chuckled, “I appreciate you not cheating, but if you had I wouldn't have cared.”

Enyne simply removed her wedding ring and carefully placed it in Desuhiko's palm, closing his fingers around it, “Go get your prince, and don't ever let him go.”

Desuhiko's face was priceless. He couldn't believe his ears, but that also couldn't stop the wave of relief that went over him. Instead he just pulled Enyne into a hug. The Goddess was surprised but still put her arms around the short Sun God.

Desuhiko mumbled softly as Enyne laughed, “I can't hear you, Shorty.”

He lifted his head up and looked at Enyne, “Can we still be friends?”

Enyne just laughed as she flicked his head softly, “Of course, after all I'm going to still tease you as you give the best reactions.”

Desuhiko pouted as the two separated. Enyne however softly bowed, “I shall return to my own solar system and inform the other Gods of our mutual break up. You stay here and tell your God pals, but more importantly tell Yumoon how you feel.”

Her eyes sparkled with hope, “We won't let them dictate our lives anymore. We make our own choices, and as the most powerful Gods of our solar systems, I'd like to see them stop us. Either way though, I do want a break from traveling back and forth from this mud rock. The humans are interesting but damn they're a lot of work to keep happy.”

“Ha! Tell me about it.” Desuhiko chuckled.

As the air fell silent the two Gods knew it was goodbye. Both crossed an arm over their chest as they bowed respectfully.

And so the duo parted ways. A new chapter in their lives.

Desuhiko clutched the ring to his chest and a new flame of determination entered his eyes as he watched Enyne leave.

‘Now, to tell Yuma how I really feel.’

Desuhiko ran to find Yuma.

Yes he had no idea where the God was but for some reason there was this feeling in his chest. It was like a string leading the way, and he knew if he followed it, Yuma would be at the end. And it was true, he eventually found him in a random field.

Yuma turned to him and smiled, “How did it go?”

Desuhiko was breathing heavily, despite not being tired. Still he looked at Yuma as he finally got his voice to work.

“We broke up.”

Yuma was still shocked but Desuhiko smiled, “It's for the best. Me and Enyne were never in love in the first place. Like I said before, it was an arranged marriage.”

Desuhiko came over then and held Yuma's hands in his own. He twirled the God softly, almost as if trying to dance with him. Yuma was confused and almost tripped, but Desuhiko was slow, careful as he helped balance Yuma.

“Besides, I know the one I love is you, Yuma.”

As he uttered those words, the sky started to darken. Desuhiko and Yuma paused their movements as they both looked up and saw that the Moon was starting to go over the Sun.

It was another solar eclipse.

Yuma muttered softly, “... So that was why I was drawn to this spot.”

Desuhiko blinked, “Me too… it seems like…”

Both males looked at each other as they muttered mutually.

“Fate.”

Yuma nodded, “This one is different from the last. I'm not scared this time.”

Desuhiko smiled softly as he cupped Yuma's cheek and made him look at him directly, dipping him slightly. Yuma blushed as Desuhiko smiled, “Can I get that kiss now?”

Yuma's hair started to glow as he smiled, “Yes.”

And Desuhiko finally kissed Yuma.

And Yuma gasped as he pulled back, a tiny bit of flame flickering between their lips.

Desuhiko gasped, quickly standing him back up, “Shit, did I burn you?!”

“N-no, it was just a shock.” Yuma quickly stuttered out. The God however smiled again, “Can I have another?”

Desuhiko just nodded as he obliged, leaning back in. This time no fire flickered between them.

Yuma closed his eyes as he simply focused solely on Desuhiko's lips. They were so warm but they didn't burn. It felt more like the heat of a fire on a cold night gave you. Warmth and safety.

It was a strange sensation, but Yuma did know one thing that was undeniable about it.

He was intoxicated by it. The way Desuhiko's lips felt against his own. All those years of loneliness and isolation, it was worth it for this moment. He never wanted to part and wanted to keep drinking from these lips meant just for him.

Yuma just held Desuhiko close as his energy spiked. Desuhiko seemed to be feeling the same as he held Yuma softly, humming lightly into their kiss.

He was so distracted he didn't even notice when they both started levitating. He just felt Desuhiko smiling as the two continued to share chaste kisses.

Desuhiko pulled back for a second, smiling as he looked down briefly. Still Desuhiko chuckled, “I didn't know a kiss could feel like this.”

Yuma however furrowed his brow as he cupped Desuhiko's face, “Shut up and keep kissing me.”

Desuhiko gasped at the boldness he wasn't used to as Yuma pulled him back in, almost seeming to devour him hungrily. Desuhiko thought he should be offended at that comment, but instead he just closed his eyes as he melted back into Yuma's cooling lips and embrace.

Desuhiko just smiled, ‘Let’s see where this goes~’

“Thank goodness, it's finally extinguished.”

Yuma sighed as he finally got the last of the fire out. He quickly turned, a hint of annoyance on his features as he looked at the slightly sheepish Desuhiko.

The Sun God couldn't meet his eyes, crossing his legs awkwardly as he tried to hide himself from that gaze, “It was an accident. How was I supposed to know that when I… you know… I'd let out so much energy I'd set the meadow on fire. I couldn't help it. I was just…”

Yuma wanted to be annoyed but he couldn't help it as he smiled, “I know it was and you couldn't control it. We were both lost in the heat of the moment. I just wasn't expecting the heart attack.”

Yuma just sat back down, enjoying the breeze against his heated flesh, “I didn't get to enjoy my afterglow though. I'm just glad there was water nearby I could control. If there wasn't, who knows what would have happened. At least this field will be okay.

Yuma carefully placed a hand on the ground as he blessed it, hoping it would help with the healing process. He even caught Desuhiko doing the same thing out of the corner of his eye, only more half-heartedly as he was still huffing a bit after finishing their intimate act.

As Desuhiko finished his own blessing however, Yuma leaned over as he sat on Desuhiko’s lap again. Desuhiko went bright red but before he could utter a single word, Yuma started to kiss him again.

Desuhiko kissed back passionately for a few moments before Yuma pulled back. Desuhiko smirked as he sat up, “Round two already? Well I guess I'm-”

But Yuma simply pushed him back down before he finished. Desuhiko was ready for Yuma to take charge, but instead, the Moon God curled up on Desuhiko's chest and leaned into his warmth. Desuhiko couldn't help but compare him to a cat as he flushed as red as a tomato.

The domesticity of it all, Desuhiko couldn't take it.

Yuma however heard when his hair caught fire and playful rolled his eyes, “How are you somehow more flustered from this than us literally having sex?”

Desuhiko however just covered his face with his hands, “Because I've never had this before.”

Yuma was silent as Desuhiko continued, “The closeness, the warmth. Enyne and I never had this. She was never close with me. Not like I can blame her because I felt the same way.”

He carefully wrapped his arms around Yuma's naked form, “But this, I never expected to have this. Not ever.”

Yuma smiled sympathetically as he brushed his cheek before kissing him again. However this kiss was far more gentle and less heated.

When Yuma pulled away and nuzzled against his chest, he huffed, “Well you should get used to it. I'm not going anywhere, not ever.”

And that was when Desuhiko started crying again. He just held his Moon God close as he buried his face in Yuma's hair, “I love you so much, my precious Moonbeam.”

Yuma giggled as he cuddled back, “I love you too.”

The two just continued to hold each other, sharing energy as they just stayed there. Desuhiko also made a silent vow in that moment. A sacred vow that he would never break.

He had no idea what was in store for them over the millennia, but he knew one thing.

‘I will do everything in my power to make sure Yuma is happy and safe.’

And he never broke that vow.

Notes:

And that's how they became the celestial husbands we all know and love! Bit of a rocky start, but these two have until the destruction of the universe to get it right!

I adore them so much and I'm so glad I got to write the start of their love story.

Next up for our short stories is a fun one! It's all about our mysterious God of Earth and his birth and why he kept himself hidden away for so long! Also how he met Shinigami and their story of the connection Life and Death have.

Chapter 4: Sprouting Seed

Summary:

Makoto was the God of Earth. That much he was sure of. Other than that though, the God really didn't know what his role was. All he knew was that he now had a planet and that there were a bunch of other Gods running around trying to help the humans. They assumed Earth had no God and had oh so gratefully stepped in to help manage the place. Makoto on one hand couldn't believe the audacity they had. But on the other, he really didn't want to reveal his existence, so instead he just helped from the sidelines to fix their fuck ups. Besides, the only God he even remotely trusted was the Goddess of Death, Shinigami.

Chapter Text

When he opened his eyes for the first time, the only thing he could see was a large expanse of blue with fluffy white things dotted around here and there. It almost seemed to expand forever. An ocean of the cosmos.

But what was an ocean? And what was the cosmos?

The being wondered this as they blinked a few more times, soon realising there was actually something solid under them. They must be lying down, but on what exactly were they laying on? With some effort, they sat up. As they did, that blue moved and soon, green flooded their vision.

Scrunching their eyes, the creature tried to get their thoughts in order. It was hard as they'd only really just come into existence, but with effort they managed to focus.

‘... Who am I?’

The being was confused. Their own existence was a mystery, but they knew about the green around them. This was a field made of plants. Plants that adsorbed sunlight and converted it into food to live.

‘But… why do I know that?’

As they looked around however, they heard voices.

“Welcome, God.”

The being jolted as he stood up, “W̸̡̗̹͑̆-̶̻͖̏͌w̷͙̩̫͗̉h̴̯̯́̔͝o̴̪̕'̶̢̢̝̈́̔̐s̸̡̱̯͆̅ ̶̟̪̍̇͝ţ̸̈̔h̷̩̖̊̉͝e̸̫̼̜͑̉r̴̹̯͋̈́̂e̵͔͂̚͝!̸̟̙̿͗̀?̵͖̣͉͂”

He looked around and saw nothing, that was until the plants brushed his legs.

“Fear not. You are our god. God of planet Earth. We serve you. You give us life.”

He quickly looked down as he saw the plants sway in the wind. As he leaned down he carefully poked the greenery. When he opened his mouth this time, instead of speaking in the ancient tongue he'd spoken previously, he now seemed to fully speak the language the plants were speaking.

“I… gave you life?”

He could feel a calm feeling wash over him from the plants, “Yes. You are a manifestation of the planet. We are linked to you. Our roots grow on your surface.”

The God slowly smiled as he brushed his hands through the plants, “I see. A God huh? That's a little surprising.”

The plants however reached for Makoto and unknowingly the God poured magic into the plant life. The plants grew as flowers started to bloom all around him. The God gasped as the flowers covered the meadow. The plants themselves seemed to almost laugh.

“Thank you! You didn't have to do that.”

The God laughed, “Well you did tell me who I was.”

The plants however just swayed more as they seemed to look confused, “But… what about a name? You should give yourself a name.”

The God's eyes however fell as he sighed, “A name? I…”

He stood up as he looked around the expansive sky, “I'm not sure of a name yet.”

He scanned his brain and nodded, “I have some knowledge of life on this planet. The most complex beings of course are the humans… They give themselves names too, don't they?”

The plants seem to part slightly, “Yes… life you protect. You are their leader.”

The God smiled as he carefully walked down the path the plants made for him. Ready to learn more about his precious world.

The God wasn't sure how long he walked. He'd seen many humans who either pointed at him or just seemed surprised by his presence. That didn't really bother the God. He was just observing, learning.

That was until one human caught his eye.

“Help! Someone please!”

The God gazed and saw a not fully matured human in a tree. It was clear the human had climbed up, but had gotten stuck and couldn't get back down. The God was confused at first, until he heard cracking.

Instinct took hold. The God knew humans were fragile, so the second the human fell when the branch broke, the God reacted instantly. They ran and subconsciously made the plants move. Vines seemed to grow from the green magic they released, catching the human.

The God ran over as they lowered them down, “Are you alright?”

The plants seemed to retract as the human boy breathed. He looked up at the God with shock, “You… you saved me.”

The God nodded, “Be more careful. Your body is fragile.”

The boy nodded, “Thanks… um… who are you?”

The God froze as he looked away, “I… I don't have a name.”

That confused the human, but they smiled, “Well, I'll just call you Makoto then! Nice to meet you Makoto! I'm Yamato!”

The God seemed to gasp, “Wait, you're giving me a name?”

“Yeah! Your parents must be cruel to not name you! So now you're Makoto! It's decided!” The boy laughed.

The God was shocked but smiled, “Makoto… yeah, I like that name! My name is Makoto!”

The human just seemed to laugh more, “You're strange Makoto, but you did rescue me. Hey! Want to play! We can run around and have fun!”

Makoto was confused, but curiosity was gripping him, “Yeah, sure! How do we play?”

“Like this!”

The adolescent human just started running. Makoto giggled as he just ran after him, a warm feeling in his chest.

‘These humans are interesting!’

Makoto treasured his name that Yamato had given him. While he still didn't really know what a God was supposed to do, he mainly spent time hanging out with his friend. It was fun running around without a care in the world! When he wasn't doing that though, he was talking to various plants and practicing his magic. The plants tried to educate him too on what his Godly duties were, but Makoto really didn't fully understand what to do. Blessing humans? What even was a blessing? He just wanted to talk and learn from the humans! He wanted to be their equal and enjoy their company! He didn't want to rule over them. He just wanted to protect his people, his beloved planet.

One day that all changed however. There he was, just relaxing when he started to feel strange energy. Many different energy signatures seemed to appear from above and were descending rapidly. As Makoto sat up, he saw other beings flying in the sky. Makoto gasped and focused, seeing they all seemed to have eye tattoos like him.

Makoto tried to keep himself hidden, wondering what on earth was going on, but also doing his best to spy on them. His plants seemed to help obscure him as he saw these new beings helping his humans. His humans!

Makoto watched as one of them, wearing a golden outfit and wild blond hair, seemed to speak to this village.

“Hello Humans! Be not afraid of me and my fellow companions! We're here to help you! You see, we're Gods! We're here to bless and help you as your planet doesn't seem to have a God! No need to thank us! It's what we do!”

Now Makoto felt annoyance go through him, ‘The audacity! What do they mean no God?! I'm literally right here!’

However, Makoto kept himself hidden. He didn't reveal himself to these Gods.

Instead Makoto just continued to observe. He could have revealed himself but instead, he wanted to see what these other planet Gods were planning. If they were a threat, he'd take them out before they got the upper hand on him.

‘No one messes with my home! My life!’

Over the next few years he noticed that these Gods had created a bunch of rules and politics for this planet. They put themselves on pedestals and made the humans worship them. One such God with red hair was especially cruel, but the others appeared to try to discipline him. Still, none of them treated humans as equals or cared for planet life. In fact they helped the humans develop and hurt the plants, digging them up to build new structures. The balance of nature was being tipped and Makoto was infuriated.

He wanted nothing to do with these Gods that had come in and taken over the place! This was his home. So instead, Makoto did his best to help nature. He wanted to help the humans too, but no one was on nature's side.

So Makoto tried something new. He focused his power and tried to make himself blend in with the humans.

He was the first God to develop a human guise.

Makoto couldn't use his powers in his new form, but still, he didn't mind. In fact, in doing so he actually felt closer to his humans. He now understood them more in a way these other Gods never would.

And just for good measure, he covered his face with a mask. Some human cultures put significance into masks and their customs, Makoto however just did his best to not draw suspicion. That and he had come to realise that unlike his precious humans, he did not age. It was another precaution so that his beloved humans didn't accidentally reveal his secret.

Instead of dwelling and seething about these new Gods fucking up the place, Makoto went to go drink with Yamato. His best friend had grown a lot in the time he'd known him and he always enjoyed meeting up and drinking with him. While he was surprised that he was now covering his face, Makoto and him just had fun. In fact Yamato found it entertaining when Makoto made up silly stories of why he was now covering his face.

“Makoto, you're the most eccentric person I know.”

Makoto laughed, “Well, you did provide me a name when my family didn't. You get the best of my stories!”

Yamato just chuckled. Makoto should have been happy, but there was this nagging feeling in his mind. After all, Yamato continued to grow and Makoto stayed the same, Makoto started to worry. How much time did he have left? After all, humans were fragile.

As the other planet Gods tried to help the Earth, Makoto still had to work around the clock to fix their mistakes from the shadows. He did as best he could while he stayed hidden from their prying eyes.

Makoto resented these Gods so much, ‘They strut in like they own the place, and treat it like helping the humans is some major task! If you really are Gods you shouldn't expect payment! And you ignore nature and just help humans develop! Where is the balance!?’

As he walked to find a place to relax and clear his head, he lightly growled as he saw that stupid Sun God once again. But that dissipated when he saw the other God he was with.

A God whose face was identical to his own.

Makoto was stunned at that, but still hid as he watched the two Gods walk together through the forest. His copy was a little shy, but the two seemed to be having fun. Makoto continued to watch and follow, the plants providing him extra cover, as the two Gods soon fell down and just sat under a nearby tree, closing their eyes.

Makoto wanted to approach, to find out why this God shared his face (and to scream at the Sun God for being an annoying little shit), but he ignored his initial reaction.

Instead he gazed with interest, ‘Hmmm, I wonder.’

Makoto closed his eyes as he carefully shifted to his god form, hiding his energy as best he could so the two Gods wouldn't sense him. He then carefully morphed his face so it was now identical to the Sun God. Sure enough, the God that matched his face also changed to match.

Makoto quickly reverted his features back before they both noticed and put a hand on his chin, ‘Hmmm, if me and that other God share a face, then me and him must have some sort of connection. But what could he be the God of?’

As Makoto carefully slipped away, the plants once again spoke to him.

“At night, look up.”

Makoto raised a brow, “Huh? Well, I suppose I could do that.”

Makoto went back to the village that Yamato lived in and waited for nightfall. Sure enough, once it was dark Makoto looked around the night sky, his eyes soon falling on his Moon. He then gasped.

‘Wait, so that God is my satellite? The Moon?’

“It's beautiful isn't it?”

Makoto turned to see Yamato also looking at the sky, “The Moon. It always shines on us and provides us light in the dark. Especially tonight when it's full.”

Makoto hummed as he looked back, “I suppose.”

Yamato chuckled, soon coughing, “You sound jealous there, old friend. You may hide your features but you can't hide your tone.”

Makoto huffed, “Not a chance. It's just a rock after all.”

Yamato just rolled his eyes, “Now now. Why don't you come in? I have fresh melon.”

Makoto bounced up, chuckling, “Oh you know I love that! Let's go!”

Yamato nodded as he led the way, stumbling a little as he did. He simply leaned on his cane as he moved, “Forgive me, I'm not as spry as I used to be.”

Makoto simply offered him support as they walked, “I got you, old friend.”

Makoto's plan had gone flawlessly. No God saw him and he continued to live his life happily.

However, Makoto soon came to learn the painful double edged sword that was his inability to age. And it came sooner than he liked.

Such hardship fell on him when Makoto was sitting by his friend's bed side as he clung to life. He was an old man now, grey balding hair, but despite that Makoto still saw his energetic friend in him.

As Makoto sat by his bed, his only company at the end, he sobbed, “This isn't fair.”

Yamato still chuckled, “Come now… you don't have to worry about this. I'm envious.”

Makoto huffed, “What do you mean, I'm an old man under here.”

But his friend smiled, “Come now Makoto, I know you're a God. You can't age.”

Makoto gasped, “Wait, how did you figure that out?”

“Well, you had eye tattoos when we first met like those other Gods have, not to mention you started hiding your face when I seemed to age and you remained the same. You've never aged the whole time I've known you. I may be mortal but give me some credit. I'm not an idiot.” The old man laughed weakly.

Makoto shook his head as he removed his mask, “... This is unfair. I don't want my only friend to die. You're what's kept me going. Your friendship…”

As Makoto sobbed, Yamato held his hand, “That's how life works. You can't change it. I'm just glad… I met you.”

As he closed his eyes, Makoto heard his weak heart stop. Makoto's sobs got worse as he just held Yamato’s hand to his cheek, “I tried so hard to expand your life, why didn't it work?”

It was then that he saw his soul. It was moving up.

Without thinking, Makoto grabbed it, “No! I won't let you disappear!”

The second he grabbed the soul however, the world seemed to shift. Makoto closed his eyes as he waited for the vertigo to cease.

When he opened them again, he was somewhere completely different. This wasn't his realm anymore.

He also could sense there was no life here. All he could feel was death and decay.

As he looked around the strange dimension, a voice called out to him.

“So, we meet, God of Life.”

Makoto turned to see a woman with pink hair and horns floating above him.

Makoto however continued to hold the soul, standing protectively, “W-what? No, I'm a human.”

But the woman laughed, “I can see through your magic, unlike your other Gods. I'm unending after all. If you hadn't noticed, you're in your God form right now.”

As Makoto looked down, he gritted his teeth in annoyance as he was in fact back in his godly guise. However, the Goddess smiled as she floated close, “I'm intrigued about you, you are the other side to my coin after all.”

“What do you mean?” Makoto uttered, still on edge.

The woman laughed as she floated around Makoto, “Kya-kya-kya! Why, I'm Shinigami-chan, Goddess of Death, and you are Makoto, the God of Earth. Or to use your other title, God of Life. Life and Death are opposite sides of the same thing.”

Makoto blinked more but still looked annoyed as he gazed at the Goddess before him. She lost her grin however as she pointed to the soul in his arms, “However, while you may be my opposite, I can't let you keep that soul.”

Makoto only gripped it to his chest more as he glared, “He's my friend! I won't let you hurt him!”

Shinigami didn't get mad however as she floated down, crouching so her face was level with Makoto's own, “... I promise to keep him safe. I would never hurt him. Death doesn't destroy, I merely help him transform, to move to the next plane. I will let him reincarnate, but I can't let him keep his memories. If you keep his soul, bad things will happen and he will suffer more, do you really want that? Do you want to hurt Yamato?”

The Goddess simply held out her hand delicately, letting Makoto make the choice. While he was reluctant, he really didn't want to make his friend, the person who'd given him his name, suffer. Makoto simply loosened his grip as he held the soul in his palms. He didn't hand it over straight away however.

He gazed into his Yamato's bright light and sniffled as he gave him one final smile, “I will never forget you. You may forget me, but I will hold all our times together in my heart. Just try not to climb and fall out of any more trees, you hear me?!”

The soul seemed to flicker softly and Shinigami laughed, “He makes no promises, but he thanks you for being in his life.”

After a few more seconds of hesitation, Makoto was incredibly gentle as he placed his friend's soul in Shinigami's hand. He didn't let go straight away, it wasn't until Shinigami smiled and gave him a nod that he carefully removed his hands.

Shinigami lifted herself back up as she cupped the soul. It was then that she seemed to speak an incantation that Makoto couldn't understand. As she did, the soul seemed to float up into a bright light that appeared in the black void. Makoto was in awe as the soul seemed to sparkle before disappearing into that light. Makoto had to admit, it was a beautiful sight.

He was snapped out of his thoughts however when Shinigami cupped his chin.

The Goddess's gaze bore into him and Makoto couldn't help but flush as she moved her thumb to caress his cheek, her long black nail brushing his cheek bone.

Makoto was stunned into silence as Shinigami hummed, “You… are interesting. You're not like any of the other gods I've met. You're crafty and follow your own rules… I can admire that.”

Makoto just seemed to flush more and Shinigami giggled as she removed her hand from his cheek and placed them both on his shoulders, “Hmmm, perhaps we can form a partnership of sorts, a pact if you will.”

“A… partnership?” Makoto mumbled.

Shinigami smiled more, “Yes, I'll keep your secret from the other Gods, even your little Moon brother.”

“Wait?! You know him!?” Makoto called out.

Shinigami chuckled, “Not personally, but I plan to summon him here myself fairly soon. He's linked to mysteries after all. Why? Something you wish to know?”

Makoto nodded, “Please, if you plan to talk to him, then tell me what you learn. I wish to uncover more about my brother, but I can't reveal myself, not yet anyway. All I know so far is that he hangs around that pompous Sun God all the time.”

Shinigami couldn't stop her cackle, “Pompous you say? You better not let him catch you saying that. He is the most powerful God of your solar system after all! Kya-kya-kya!”

But then Shinigami smirked, “But I admit, that's sneaky of you! Very well, I will inform you of what I find out and the other Gods movements. Your existence will remain hidden, but only if I get something in exchange.”

Makoto tensed up a little but the Goddess just beamed, “Oh relax, I only want to study you and learn more about you! I said before, life and death are two sides of the same coin! While there are a few Gods out there which have life on their planets, you're an interesting one. Humans are a confusing bunch but I'm still intrigued.”

Makoto thought for a second, folding his arms before nodding, “I can agree to that. Just as long as you don't try to dissect me or something.”

Shinigami chuckled, “No thanks, I enjoy dead bodies but it wouldn't be fun to do that myself, unless you asked me to, Kya-kya-kya!”

Makoto shuddered, “No thank you. I mean could you imagine, me, a God, being strapped to an operating table and cut open, crazy.”

Shinigami smiled, “Then we have a deal then! A pact!”

Makoto nodded, “I guess so, you observe and study me in exchange for you keeping my existence hidden and spying on the others for me. A pretty even deal.”

Shinigami laughed, “Alright! Time to seal this pact then!”

Makoto was confused as Shinigami leaned in and placed a kiss on his lips. His eyes went wide as his face heated up, but he also felt a strange power go around the two of them.

Makoto closed his eyes as he blushed more, but soon the goddess pulled away. Makoto covered his mouth with his sleeve as even his ears heated up, “W-what was that for?”

Shinigami chuckled, “Well I had to seal the pact some way, would you rather I'd done a blood pact with you?”

Makoto shook his head as he regained his composure, “I… I suppose not. Just some warning next time.”

“Oh? Next time? You want another kiss?” Shinigami mused as she winked, blowing him a kiss.

Makoto however just changed the subject, “Anyway, I hope we get to know each other better, Shinigami-chan!”

Makoto gave the Goddess a sincere bow as she twirled, “Oh this is gonna be fun!”

The two beings talked more, both getting absorbed in their conversation. Even Makoto had to admit, Shinigami was by far the most intriguing Goddess he'd met. He was looking forward to their secret partnership.

One that would eventually save the Earth from a grisly fate, but you already know of that tale.

Notes:

Yeah! So Shinigami and Makoto are both kind of interested in each other but also not? They're kind of in a relationship but also not. I'd say queerplatonic describes their dynamic. They're not dating really but if one of them wants a smooch the other would kiss them. Their Gods, they're not really going to use labels. And yes, she and Makoto would probably dance as we know Shinigami dances with Yuma to get the solution blade in canon, they'd just do that to entertain each other!

Chapter Text

Around the fifteenth century was a terrible time to be a woman. In most of history it was actually, but it was especially bad then.

Because if you were accused of being a witch it was a death sentence.

Innocents and witches who were minding their own business were slaughtered under the guise of eradicating evil. As such many witches went into hiding. Covens were careful with practicing magic, making sure no one saw them in the fear of execution.

Such was the life of Kurumi Wendy. One witch of a coven of five. Aiko, Kurumi, Waruna, Yoshiko and Kurane had all fled their village together once tensions started to rise. Leaving their homes and their former lives behind had been a challenge, but they knew that they had a better chance together than alone.

With some adjustment, Kurumi actually grew to love their home in the woods. They'd built a cabin together and had cast protection spells so the bad weather wouldn't destroy it. Life was hard but they were at least happy. Not having to hide their true nature, able to be their authentic selves.

Kurumi was washing some clothes by the nearby river as she smiled at Aiko, “It's beautiful here. Being around nature, I feel more connected with mother earth.”

Aiko giggled as she rolled her eyes softly, “Sure, if you don't mind the tics.”

“Come on, I'm serious.” Kurumi chuckled before sweating, “Although you are right about the tics.”

Aiko just laughed as she continued to wash clothes with Kurumi, getting as much of the dirt as they could out of their garments.

Kurumi still however looked up at the sky, “Even if I like it here, I wished we weren't being persecuted. We didn't even do anything wrong.”

“It's because fucking men don't want us woman having any power.”

The two girls turned to see Waruna matching towards them, a scowl on her face, “Tell me I'm wrong! The second we step out of line, they punish us. That's just how the world works.”

Kurumi however furrowed her brows, “I still believe there's good in this world.”

Waruna however scoffed before her face softened, “I came to get you both. Nightfall will be upon us soon.”

Aiko nodded, “Right. I just finished up. Kurumi-chan?”

Kurumi scowled at her item, flicking her brunette hair out of her face, “You two go ahead. I'll head back soon. I just gotta get the last of this dirt out.”

Aiko was unsure but nodded, “Well… okay. Just don't take too long. Once it gets too dark you can’t see a thing in this forest. Remember the light spell if it gets too late! Lampyris!

A small ball of light that almost looked like a firefly appeared in Aiko’s hands, before she quickly dismissed it.

Kurumi grinned, “I got it. Be safe.”

She waved as the two women got their clothes in their basket and worked together to haul it back. Kurumi however kept working until twilight fell. Any longer and it would be pitch black when Kurumi returned. It was time to call it a day. Thankfully the pesky dirt had finally lifted out. That was the last time she jumped in muddy puddles during a storm.

As she walked back Kurumi hummed softly, a small something to keep her company as she trudged on. However as she walked, she soon felt like she was being watched. Kurumi knew to always trust her instincts, so instead of heading back to the others, Kurumi headed away, deeper into the forest. If there was danger, she wouldn't put her precious friends at risk.

That was the right call because soon Kurumi was grabbed from behind. The girl gasped as a hand soon covered her mouth. Kurumi couldn't scream, but she refused to tremble. Figures with torches soon appeared as people she recognised from her old village came forward out of the darkness.

She scowled however as the mayor's daughter, Karen, approached her.

“We finally caught you, witch.”

Kurumi glared as the blonde walked forwards, “We finally have the scum that cursed our crops. I don't know where the others are, but you're going to tell us.”

The hand was removed from Kurumi's mouth then. However Kurumi just remained level headed as she looked directly at Karen, a defiant fire in her eyes, “We had nothing to do with that bad weather. Besides, I would rather die than sell them out.”

Karen only smiled cruelly, “That can be arranged. Last chance.”

Kurumi however held her tongue. That just pissed Karen off as she lifted her torch, “Looks like we're gonna have a burning after all. We may not have caught them all, but this will send a warning.”

Fear coursed through Kurumi as she was dragged away. It didn't take long for her to be brought before a stake that was constructed just on the edge of the forest. She was soon tied to it, being forcefully restrained as she thrashed about.

This was barbaric. She hadn't done anything, yet the bad weather was immediately pinned on her and her friends. A scapegoat.

As Kurumi was bound, the girl looked up.

Above her was a full moon. It's light shining down on the scene unfolding below.

Kurumi didn't know why, but she scrunched her eyes closed as she made a silent prayer. A silent cry for help.

‘Oh great one made of moonlight, I beg thee, please save me from this fate. Or at least make it so I don't feel the fire once they torch me. Protect the others so they may not share my fate. Please hear my plea.’

Kurumi knew it was probably wishful thinking, but still she prayed to the moon, the land, to anything to help her.

She was snapped out of it however when Karen laughed, “God doesn't listen to treacherous snakes that turn their backs and reject him!”

Kurumi however continued to stare in defiance as Karen and others started to spout their hate and self righteousness.

The second the fire was lit, Kurumi however started to panic. She could already feel the heat and was completely terrified. Kurumi couldn't stop herself as she looked up, “PLEASE! ANYONE!”

And it was then that she heard a soft voice.

“Stay calm. I've got you.”

Kurumi could hear the gentle tone of that voice. It could've been her imagination, but she still looked up as a shadow darted towards her. There were gasps from the crowd as a powerful wind blew out the flames. Everything was obscured in darkness, only the moon's light offering any illumination.

Even Kurumi was blind, but she heard that calming voice by her ear this time, “Close your eyes.”

Kurumi did as instructed and soon felt the ropes around her break. She then felt arms catch her and hold her before a sudden feeling of weightlessness. Kurumi wanted to open her eyes but that voice spoke once more, a wave of relief going through her as she heard it.

“Keep them closed. I'll tell you when it's safe.”

Kurumi just trusted that voice. The cold air whipped around her more before it soon subsided. The figure put her down and Kurumi could feel the ground under her feet once more. She heard a small chuckle then.

“It is safe now.”

Kurumi opened her eyes then as she gazed upon her saviour. The moon seemed to be even brighter as it illuminated a young looking man. He was quite a bit shorter than Kurumi was, his lilac hair blowing in the breeze. All he had on was a white poet shirt with black high waisted trousers, a bit light for such a cold night.

Kurumi was surprised that such a man had saved her, at least she thought he was a man. His face was slightly androgynous so it was hard to tell.

Still she gazed softly, “Who… are you?”

The man smiled, “I am a friend.”

He seemed to look slightly sheepish then, “I heard your call and had to help. Hearing you say you at least didn't want the fire to hurt you broke my soul. No one should have to suffer such a fate.”

Kurumi's eyes went wide however, “I… I never said that out loud. That…”

She took a small step back as she gasped, “What are you?”

It wasn't out of fear, she was grateful, but she was confused. How had this person heard her thoughts?

But the man just smiled. He approached carefully as he took a hold of her hands. Kurumi couldn't stop her blush but remained still as he looked at her.

Kurumi let out a gasp as the man's eyes glowed a soft shade of purple. Even with that though, Kurumi was comforted by the soft gaze he gave her. She couldn't help but feel reassured, like everything was going to be alright.

His smile softened as he held her hands, “See.”

The air around them whipped around and Kurumi gasped as the man seemed to shift forms. He now had small blue circles around the corner of his eyes, and a cape that seemed to twinkle like the night sky itself.

Kurumi knew then who this man was and how he'd heard her prayer.

This was a God.

Kurumi instantly fell to her knees as she gripped his hands tightly. Her eyes streamed as she put her forehead against his hands, “Thank you… thank you for saving my life, oh blessed one.”

The God stuttered, a small blush going across his cheeks, “H-hey, you don't have to be so formal.”

Kurumi couldn't stop her chuckle, “How can I not. A God actually heard me and saved me. Saved me from a painful end.”

Kurumi just seemed to sob more, “These hunts… I wish they would end. You know we're innocent right? I may be a witch but I only use my magic to cast protection spells. I'm not some monster who hurts people!”

The God was silent as he kneeled down. Kurumi looked back up as he gave her a melancholy smile, “I know. I don't know why the humans are doing this and saying it's God's will. It is not, I assure you that.”

The man's eyes seemed to glow again, “I am Yuma, God of the Moon. Kurumi Wendy, I hereby bless you.”

Kurumi's eyes went wide as Yuma carefully leaned his forehead against her own, “I bless you and your coven. You will always have the power to protect them.”

Kurumi felt a surge of power enter her then. She gasped as the breeze once again picked up. The power seemed to enter her and Kurumi couldn't help but feel like the ocean was wrapping itself around her.

Yuma however continued to speak, “I give you the foresight for danger. You will be the oracle of your coven, warning them of trouble before it can befall you. This I promise you. The Moon is important in magic practices after all.”

Yuma seemed to slightly chuckle as he pulled away. As he did, Kurumi felt a tingle on her forehead. The God smiled as he gazed at her, “I apologise for the physical changes.”

“Physical changes?” Kurumi asked.

Yuma nodded as he lifted his hand, soon water darted towards them and stopped before it hit them. He made the water pause in front of himself, making it a thin sheet. Its surface reflected Kurumi’s image back at her like a mirror. It was then that she saw what Yuma meant.

The witch gasped as she saw her hair was no longer the chestnut brunette she’d had all her life, it was now a shimmering silver. That, and she now had a crescent moon tattoo on her forehead, the same colour as the marks by the God's eyes. The tattoo seemed to fade softly but Yuma smiled.

“Every time you cast magic, that tattoo will appear. I am surprised about your hair though.”

Kurumi however just smiled as Yuma used the water to hydrate the nearby flowers, “Thank you, Yuma-sama.”

Yuma flushed a little once more, “Please, -san is fine.”

He then shook his head, “All I ask is you do not tell the others of my existence. Us Gods aren't really meant to meddle too much, and especially not reveal our true forms.”

His face seemed to fall, “I just hate how innocent people are being burned. I can't sit back and do nothing.”

Kurumi just smiled as she rose, towering over the little God, “I promise.”

Yuma sighed softly before he seemed to change back to his human form, the ethereal glow seeming to fade, “Thank you, for now let's get you back to your coven.”

Kurumi took his outstretched hand as they walked.

When Kurumi heard the others calling her, Yuma seemed to vanish in a flash. Kurumi didn't mind however as she jogged towards the voices.

It was Yoshiko that spotted her first. She gasped, “Kurumi-chan!”

The others soon gathered as Aiko gave her a big hug, “Kurumi-chan! We were worried sick! What happened?”

Kurane nodded, “And what happened to your hair?”

Aiko looked and gasped, “It's silver!”

Kurumi just smiled, “Let's just say, a friend helped me find my way home.”

As she uttered that she looked up towards the Moon.

“No one will hurt us anymore.”

While the rest were confused, Aiko just dragged Kurumi inside for dinner, still scolding her for her recklessness.

As Kurumi entered her home with her coven, two figures watched from the shadows. Once they were inside, one turned to the other.

“You do realise you're probably gonna get in trouble for that powerful blessing.”

Yuma however smiled as he stood up, looking at Desuhiko with a confident smile, “It will be fine. With how much the others bless people, me doing one powerful blessing should balance things out.”

Desuhiko chuckled, “Who knew my husband was such a rule breaker.”

Yuma just elbowed him, “Come on. We should get home. I think that’s enough excitement for one day.”

Desuhiko grinned as he took his precious Moonbeam’s hand, “Heck yeah, but shit, who knew our midnight stroll through one of our favourite forests would turn out like this! We gotta mention something at the next council meeting about these witch hunts. It’s getting out of control!”

It didn't take long for the duo to get home as Desuhiko just opened a portal straight to their front door.

First thing Yuma did was to freshen up a bit. As he entered the bathroom and washed his face however, he felt a familiar sense of vertigo.

Yuma sighed as he opened his eyes, soon recognising his surroundings. He was confused however as he quickly turned to face the Goddess of Death.

She looked pissed.

Yuma sweated, “Um… what am I doing here?”

Shinigami's eyes were dark as she leaned forwards, “Do you know what you did with that last blessing?”

Yuma was confused, “Um… I gave a human girl protection and foresight. I didn't give her immortality.”

Shinigami however continued to glare, “Yes… and what were the exact words you used.”

Yuma blinked, “Let's see, I think I said, ‘You will always have the power to protect them’ ...”

His eyes went wide then as he suddenly looked up. Shinigami's eyes narrowed more, “You just blessed all five of those girls' souls. You blessed them so they will always be reincarnated together. Congratulations, Little God.”

Yuma's eyes were huge as he looked at the Goddess, “I had… I had no idea my blessing was that powerful!”

He quickly bowed his head, “I meant no disrespect to you, Shinigami-chan! Just please don’t hurt them! They’ve suffered enough!”

He could still feel her glare but he heard a sigh, “I know you didn't… but I can't remove the blessing, not without hurting them.”

Yuma gulped but Shinigami folded her arms, “But I suppooooose I can alter it so it doesn't harm the cycle of death.”

Yuma leant back up as Shinigami hummed, “The flat chested uggo can keep her powers, what I'll do is make it so that they can only be reincarnated when all five girls are dead. Only then may their souls return to the world together. They won't remember their past lives until they all reunite once more.”

Yuma's eyes lit up as Shinigami continued, refusing to meet his eyes, “They won't get all their memories back of course. A human soul can't take that much information, but they will remember their powers and bond with each other.”

He nodded happily, “Thank you so much Shinigami-chan!”

Shinigami however grabbed his face and looked at him sternly, “Never do this again though! If you do, I will boom kill you! Am I clear?”

Yuma just quickly nodded, “Perfectly clear! I promise!”

Shinigami waited a few more seconds to watch Yuma squirm before nodding, “Glad you understand.”

She released his face as he rubbed his cheeks. She huffed, “Now, get out of my sight! I have a complex spell to cast!”

Shinigami then snapped her fingers and the world melted away. Yuma blinked and was soon back in his bathroom in his human form. He sighed as a chill went up his spine, ‘Say what you want, but she can be terrifying when she wants to be.’

Yuma quickly finished sorting himself and once he opened the door, Desuhiko immediately grabbed him, none the wiser that his husband had just been spirited away, “After a night like tonight I want lots of cuddles!”

Yuma giggled as he flopped onto their bed. Desuhiko wasted no time curling up next to him and humming as he embraced Yuma, “Of course, I can agree to those demands.”

Desuhiko giggled more as he got comfy, ready to rest his energy for the next few hours. Yuma just shut his eyes, getting comfortable as Desuhiko radiated calming heat.

Centuries passed.

The girls were reincarnated a few times. Every time they met they remembered their bond and stuck together like glue until death's scythe reaped them once again.

The most recent reincarnated Kurumi was a modern day student in a place known as Kanai Ward. She had a happy life with her parents and was free from the perils of witch persecution. Granted, life was still not easy, but at least it was better than being terrified you were gonna be offed at a moments notice 24/7.

That night, when she got her memories back, Kurumi got to work getting the summon circle she was familiar with made, making sure she could hide it under her rug from her parents.

Once it was complete she called forth the God of the Moon once more.

It took a few moments, but soon an image of Yuma appeared in the circle. The God chuckled as he smiled, “It's been a while, Kurumi-chan.”

“It has!” Kurumi chuckled as she folded her arms, “I only recently remembered everything. But now all those weird things that happen around me make sense again!”

Yuma however bowed his head, “I'm sorry my blessing has caused you so much trouble.”

Kurumi however rolled her eyes playfully, “Stop doing that! You saved my life centuries ago! And besides, I got to meet my coven again thanks to you. We all just started school together! While I knew Aiko-chan for a while, it wasn't until we all met that the memories came flooding back.”

She pouted however, “I just wish I could remember my old high school tests!”

Yuma chuckled, “Unfortunately the human mind can only hold so many memories.”

Kurumi chuckled, “I know, I know.”

She then smirked softly, “So… how are you and Desuhiko-kun doing? Still my favourite God couple I hope!”

Yuma flushed a little, “We're good, although we don't live together anymore.”

Kurumi gasped but Yuma smiled as he filled her in about the decision the Gods had made about no longer meddling in the affairs of man and how they now had lives in the human world. They both enthusiastically chatted about him being a detective and still helping others. While Kurumi was human and really shouldn’t know this much, Yuma made an exception for his oldest friend. While he loved Desuhiko, he was still happy to have a friend to confide in about the stuff he couldn't tell him. Or was embarrassed to tell him. And Kurumi was an excellent secret keeper, taking many secrets to the grave… literally.

Kurumi and her friends were hanging out at lunch in a classroom, just like any other day, when Kurumi suddenly froze. Waruna was the first to notice and raised a brow, “The hell is up with you?”

Kurumi however looked up, rain clouds suddenly descending from above, and they were thick clouds.

As confused as the group of five looked, an announcement started to play across the whole of Kanai Ward. Every single screen, electronic billboard, everything was the same image. As it did, Kurumi's forehead tattoo suddenly appeared and glowed. A vision of danger flooded her mind. The others were still confused, but also strangely focused on the odd announcement from a random red haired man on the various screens across the ward.

Kurumi however was fast as she called out, “Cover your eyes and ears now!”

The other four looked confused, almost subconsciously being drawn back to the broadcast but Kurumi was serious, “JUST DO IT!”

That got their attention as each of them covered their ears and shut their eyes. Kurumi watched them all carefully, making sure she wasn't drawn in by the mysterious red haired man herself. Kurumi was on high alert and didn't give the all clear until her powers stopped spiking, muttering a few words of protection to make sure that any mind altering magic wouldn't touch her or her coven.

Kurumi tapped them all and they uncovered their ears and opened their eyes as she sighed, "It's safe.”

Yoshiko looked concerned, “What happened, Kurumi-chan?”

Kurumi shook her head, her tattoo slowly vanishing, “I don't know, but I just got a dangerous vibe from that man.”

Kurane however looked up, “Those clouds… they came in fast and haven't gone.”

Kurumi nodded as she looked at them, “... I've got a bad feeling. Whatever that man was saying, they have to be linked.”

There wasn't much they could do though as the bell rang out. The girls quickly went back to class but soon started to realise something strange. New students and teachers had suddenly appeared, but everyone was acting like they knew them already. Like they’d been there the whole time.

All five girls were immediately on edge as this smelt like a powerful magic spell. The coven of witches knew all too well when magic was abused. In the past they had stopped other witches which had gone mad with power after all.

So they decided to do some digging the next few days and fly under the radar.

Kurane used her powers to see through the eyes of crows and rats, while Kurumi dug up information the old fashioned way, using her skills she'd acquired when she was an informant in a past life.

Waruna and Yoshiko used their skills as social butterflies to get information from fellow school members. Yoshiko used kindness while Waruna used fear.

And Aiko, she used her acting skills to talk to the new Peacekeepers that had appeared, saying she was writing an article for the school paper about them and their contribution to Kanai Ward’s safety.

They soon came together with all their findings and found out that everyone had had memories implanted in them. As far as they were aware the Peacekeepers had been around for months and were the new security in Kanai Ward, led by a brave director. Everything pointed to Amaterasu cooperation in the end.

Kurumi looked at the group as she crossed her arms, “I'll investigate myself.”

The coven was worried, but Kurumi always protected them so they kept their faith in her.

Kurumi however kept one thing in the forefront of her mind.

‘If this is serious I will contact Yuma-kun.’

Kurumi soon went to Amaterasu headquarters. As she approached however she felt a strong barrier. It was powerful magic, far greater than any she’d ever seen or cast herself. Kurumi placed a hand on it as she analysed the spell.

‘Very strong magic. There's no way I can break it alone.’

“Curious.”

Kurumi's eyes shot to the side as she saw the red haired man from before. Kurumi was on high alert as the man walked towards her. She could sense his strong aura even from here. It was palpable, and dangerous.

The man just clicked his teeth, “Pesky human.”

He charged at her then. The second he did Kurumi started to mutter enchanted words. Electricity sparked as his hand paused, unable to break her own defensive barrier, her many powerful protection spells. His evil would not harm her.

The man was shocked but growled as he jumped back, “A witch.”

Kurumi glared as the man shifted his form. Like Yuma he had tattoos under his eyes, only his were red. There was a crown sat on his head and a ring with a cape attached to it floated around him, defying gravity. She showed no sign of surprise though.

“I see, you're a God too.”

The man's eyes twitched, but his tone remained calm, “So, you have the sight. Well, it doesn't matter.”

He smiled darkly, flexing his gauntlet-covered hands, “I am Yomi Hellsmile, God of Pluto! And I must say, I'm impressed the little satellite could even cast a blessing that powerful. His magic signature is all over you.”

Kurumi laughed as she crossed her arms, reading this God like a book due to her many lives of experience, “You sound bitter about that. Then again, Yuma-kun is more of a God than you'll ever be. Hypnotizing everyone in the city, no one who has good intentions ever does that. I bet if you had the chance, you'd even brainwash your fellow Gods to serve you… they're stronger willed than that though.”

Yomi growled at that comment, “You'll eat those words, bitch!”

He then smiled cruelly as he looked at the girl, “From that blessing, I can tell you've come back from the dead a few times… so let me tell you something that I think will interest you.”

Kurumi was ready to dismiss his lies, but Yomi's eyes turned black as he laughed, “Who do you think was responsible for the witch hunts back in the day.”

Kurumi's blood froze before she burned with rage as Yomi laughed, “I just wanted to have some fun. Seeing you humans murder each other in extravagant ways is entertainment! Especially the fact that anyone who was labelled a witch was turned on in a heartbeat, whether they were innocent or not. Their screams as they burned were music to my ears, shame they were eventually phased out.”

Kurumi let out an inhuman roar as she ran at Yomi, her hands brimming with powerful magic. Yomi just laughed however as he side stepped and grabbed her. Still Kurumi poured all the magic she could to repel Yomi, but he simply held her by the chin with one hand, grabbing both her hands with the other, “Pfff! That tickles. You may be strong, but nothing is more powerful than my divine self!”

Yomi glared at her as she continued to look at him defiantly, “Now, I can't just kill you, that would notify the goody two shoes and put the others on high alert, ruining my plan, but I can't just hypnotize you either. I get the feeling your protection spells would make that ineffective.”

Yomi just leaned his face close, “But I can't have you warning the others either.”

The grip on her face tightened as he forced her face close to his. He forced her mouth open as he breathed black vapour into it. Kurumi struggled but she couldn't stop the strange magic entering her.

It was over in a few seconds as he dropped her to the ground. Kurumi coughed a few times as she looked up at him in pure anger, her own eyes glowing.

Yomi just smiled darkly again as he leaned down, “You now have a delayed spell inside you. It's wrapped around your heart now. Should you breathe a word of my plan to any living thing, or raise a hand against me, it will activate and crush your heart, killing you. Oh, and not just you, but your coven as well. You'll all drop dead. Something tells me that you aren't stupid enough to warn the pipsqueak by killing yourself and your coven.”

Kurumi's eyes were wide in fear as Yomi leaned back up, a fake cheery smile on his face, “So just play along. I'll leave you be… and once my plan is complete, I'll bring Yuma to you and kill him in front of you. With your blessings gone I'll then delight in making you my servant.”

Kurumi's eyes still glowed along with her moon tattoo as she stood up, “You monster! You're not a God, you're a demon!”

Yomi cackled, “Now now, your family is getting worried I'm sure. It's best you head home. Be careful, and remember, the Peacekeepers are here to protect you.”

Kurumi straightened her coat as she glared, “... This isn't over! I swear, you will come to regret what you've done to every witch in the past and what you're doing now! Bad guys never win! You will get your karma! And when you do, I will celebrate.”

Yomi just laughed as Kurumi marched away. Yes she'd lost, but she wouldn't give Yomi the satisfaction of seeing her cry.

The next day at school, the others crowded around Kurumi as they pulled her to one side. Kurane was the first to speak once they were alone, “We felt your power… what happened?”

Kurumi however clasped her hands over her mouth as she shook her head. She could feel the magic in her chest wriggling around. She couldn't risk uttering a word.

Yoshiko looked concerned, “You… can't tell us?”

Kurumi nodded but that just made Waruna mad as she grabbed Kurumi by the front of her uniform, “The hell do you mean you can't tell us! We're you're coven! We tell each other everything! So spit it out!”

Kurumi however just shook her head, tears threatening to spill. Waruna went to yell again but Aiko grabbed her, “Waruna-chan! Let her go!”

Waruna looked like a raging bull, but Aiko put a hand on her shoulder, “How many times has Kurumi-chan protected us? I don't think she can physically tell us. If she does it will hurt all of us. That’s my theory anyway.”

Waruna looked conflicted before she sighed and released Kurumi, “You're right… She always defends us. I'm sorry.”

Kurumi just started to cry, still not daring to say a word. She didn't know what would activate the spell after all. Aiko was the first to hug her, “It's okay Kurumi-chan. We'll drop it.”

Kurumi nodded as she hugged back. The others all joined as Kurumi finally spoke.

“I'll keep protecting you all. No matter what.”

The witches waited months. They just kept pretending that everything was fine, supporting each other and avoiding the Peacekeepers when they could. They were almost in limbo, unable to strike.

That was until Waruna reported something, “Guys! I swear I saw the Desuhiko Thunderbolt today!”

Kurumi instantly focused as Waruna smiled, “You know the famous musician? He was with some purple haired guy! They seemed close! But I wonder, why is he here? Word on the internet is that he canceled all his shows a few weeks ago because he was looking after a sick family member!”

Aiko was shocked, “Really? Are you sure it was him?”

Waruna nodded, “Positive! I’d know that hair anywhere!”

Kurumi however said nothing. She just held hope in her heart that Yuma and the other Gods would manage to set things right.

It was a further few weeks that when the others were out investigating after an order was called to evacuate Kamasaki district, that Kurumi felt violently sick.

The others pulled her to one side as Kurumi threw up something. The girls gasped as they saw a weird shadow snake hissing before it ignited and was destroyed. Yomi's magic was gone. She grasped her chest, knowing she was now safe.

As she did, they all looked up as the rain clouds disappeared. They were curious when more magic seemed to cover the sky.

Still, now Kurumi was free, she gasped, “Yomi Hellsmile is a God!”

The girls all looked confused as she breathed heavily, “I went to investigate and met Yomi Hellsmile. He cursed me so I couldn't say anything, but he was the one behind the witch hunts in our first lives! If I said a word about that or his plan, he would have killed me with that spell, and it would have killed all of you too. I couldn't risk that.”

The second she uttered that, Kurumi could feel the rest of her coven's powers spike. Their eyes all glowed as magic sparked around their hands.

Kurane gritted her teeth, “No one hurts our Kurumi!”

Yoshiko’s eyes were obscured but she still was furious, “And get away with it.”

Waruna seemed to almost growl, “We'll rip him apart and avenge our fallen sisters!”

Even Aiko was a ball of anger as power flicked between her fingers, “And we'll stop his plan!”

Kurumi however smiled, “It's okay. Please calm down everyone. After all, I think he just got his ass handed to him.”

The girl's eyes returned to normal as Kurumi smiled, “I had a feeling when Waruna-chan said she saw Desuhiko Thunderbolt. He is the God of the Sun after all, husband to the God of the Moon who blessed us.”

She felt bad about breaking Yuma's promise, but this was a special circumstance.

Waruan yelled out, “Backup! Desuhiko Thunderbolt is a God!? And he's taken!?”

She then gasped out, “Now that you mention it, I felt a weird connection to that boy he was with. He's the one that blessed us to reincarnate? And you knew the whole time?!”

Kurumi sweated, “I was sworn to secrecy. After all, the God of the Moon saved me when I was almost burned. It was only right to keep my promise and not say anything.”

Aiko was the first to hug her, “We understand. But how do we know for certain Yomi has been dealt with? I still want to punch him after all.’

“I'll find out tonight.” Kurumi smiled, “I'll contact the God of the Moon and see if he'll give me answers. I can only summon him at night after all.”

Yoshiko nodded, “Alright, but you tell us first thing tomorrow… and I want all the gossip about Desuhiko-kun!”

The silver haired witch nodded, “Hey now, all I know was told in confidence. But yeah, for now I need food, and on the double. Throwing up that thing took a lot out of me.”

Aiko quickly took her arm as she smiled, “Sure, let's go relax.”

The coven all linked hands as they walked off to Ginma.

True to her word, that night Kurumi used her magic circle once more to contact Yuma. It was for times like this Yuma had taught her the summoning ritual after all.

Kurumi said the incantation and waited. There was a bit of a delay and Kurumi wondered if she'd messed it up, but soon Yuma appeared, only his appearance was slightly different.

For one his eyes were now yellow, and second, he now had a pair of horns coming out of his head.

Kurumi immediately folded her arms as she pouted, “What did you do?”

Yuma blushed in embarrassment, but before he could answer, a small purple blob with a crown appeared next to him.

Kurumi blinked in shock as the ghost looked at itself before red steam came off its head, ‘Why on earth am I in this form?! No mortal summoned me!’

As the ghost turned, however, she soon saw Kurumi. The red puffs ceased as she folded her arms, ‘Oh I recognise that soul. Kurumi Wendy, right?’

She nodded as Yuma got her focused back on him, “What's wrong. It must be serious if you summoned me.”

Kurumi nodded, “Did you stop Yomi Hellsmile.”

The God and spirit(?) both seemed to gasp as Yuma looked shocked, “How did you know about him?”

Kurumi rolled her eyes, “I literally live in Kanai Ward. In fact, I tried to stop him myself, but got cursed. Thanks to that I literally couldn't say anything to anyone without killing myself. I had hope though when Waruna-chan saw Desuhiko-san in the city.”

Yuma still looked shocked before soon bowing, “I'm sorry you got mixed up in all this. We were all pretty stupid to be fair. We fell right into his trap.”

“Hey, you stopped him in the end right? Where is he now?” Kurumi asked.

It was the ghost that came forward, ‘Back on Pluto thanks to yours truly! Kya-kya-kya!’

“Oh thank you! And you are?” Kurumi asked with a small bow.

The ghost puffed up their chest, ‘I’m Shinigami-chan! Goddess of Death!’

Kurumi gasped with joy as her eyes sparked, “It's nice to finally meet a Goddess! Here I thought they were all men!”

Shinigami laughed more, ‘Oh you better believe it! And here's the kicker! I'm the most powerful God of all! Keep praising me mortal!’

Kurumi actually smiled, “Oh definitely! Praise the almighty Goddess of Death! I'm guessing she's the reason you're currently sprouting the horns then, Yuma-kun?”

Yuma nodded, sighing a little, “Yeah… let me catch you up on everything that's happened the last few weeks… months? Either way, I'll start from the beginning.”

Yuma sat crossed legs on the floor as Shinigami perched on his head. Kurumi meanwhile just smiled as she listened to the strange tale of Yomi Hellsmile's plan to destroy the solar system.

Suffice to say, Kurumi really wished she could punch Yomi even more after that recap. Maybe someday she’d figure out a way to get to Pluto and vent her frustration out on the God.

Notes:

Kurumi is an incredibly brave character to me. She is not a detective and doesn't have a forte, yet she works so hard to try and help Kanai Ward. I'm so glad I could finally write her story in this AU as well as the connection she has to Yuma! Her having silver hair also really helped finalise her role 🤣 I may be a Kokobolt writer but I still like acknowledging how important a character she is to Yuma. She also will have another side story later on (blame Draconic for that one /lh)

Alright, up next is a Sickfic! Even when they're Gods I'll make Yuma not feel great. It's that one scene from chapter 5 of the main fic where Yuma almost died and Makoto rescued him. Is this sort of a gift for Pixel, yes! Plus I thought it would be fun to write about an immortal God who's never been sick in his life suddenly being ill. Suffer idiot!

Chapter 6: Waning Crescent

Summary:

Makoto had everything planned. He knew exactly how he was going to meet his satellite and knew exactly how he was going to hint to Yuma that he should contact Shinigami, Goddess of Death… of course that plan went up in smoke much like the submarine after Yomi got impatient and blew it up, so now, naturally, Makoto had to go save his brother.

But how does a God take care of a sick fellow God when he has no idea what he's doing, especially when the second God shouldn't be able to get sick in the first place! God Makoto was in for a long couple of days.

Yuma Kokohead & Makoto Kagutsuchi, Sickfic, fever, illness, Whump, delirium

Notes:

Here we are! Sickfic time once again! Even when they're immortal Gods I will still find a way to make Yuma suffer with an aliment!

Hope you like this too Pixel!

And thank you Draconic for beta reading for me!

Chapter Text

It was quiet across Kanai Ward. Too quiet.

Or as quiet as it could be with the constant rain. Makoto however still felt a sense of unease as he gazed over the city through the large glass windows of his penthouse. While he was aware of Yomi's plan, there was nothing he could do by himself to thwart it.

Makoto sighed as he put a hand to the glass, ‘I can't take him head on, even in my God form. I know he has three other Gods imprisoned to fuel his own strength. I'd basically join them if I tried, and then that's goodbye to this solar system.’

As Makoto's brow twitched, one of his plants brushed against his hand. He turned and smiled compassionately at the greenery.

“We sorry we cannot help more.”

Makoto was gentle as he stroked one leaf, “It's okay. Don't feel bad. I'm trying to save you too after all. If Yomi has his way, everything will be in danger. I just must find the perfect opportunity to strike. If I could somehow get my little satellite here, then I could try and hint that he should contact Shinigami-chan. I can't do it myself without alerting Yomi-kun after all.”

The plants knew this well and Makoto sighed as he turned to his little melon seedlings, “I'm also sorry you had to be born into this world when so much strife is happening.”

The melon plants didn't move as much as they were still young, but Makoto still smiled as he sprinkled a tiny bit of his magic on them, “I'll still take care of you though. I may have duties but I will still be a good father.”

As they softly cooed however, a loud bang rang out across the city. Makoto almost dropped his pots before he sharply turned and matched to the window.

His eyes went wide as he saw the river bank, smoke rising from where the submarine once stood, “... Shit!”

This was unexpected and threw a wrench in his plans. Still, Makoto was adaptable.

The plants shared his sentiment.

“Must save!”

Makoto nodded as he quickly grabbed his raincoat and a massive oversized bag. He couldn't risk Yomi seeing him so he had to be smart. While he couldn't use his God powers to change his physical appearance, as it would affect Yuma as well, he still needed to not look like the CEO right now.

Makoto was stealthy as he headed down before leaving the tower through the maintenance door. He gritted his teeth as he walked.

‘Please be okay.’

Once he made it to the riverbank, he carefully stayed hidden, keeping an eye on the cameras in the area. He knew their blind spots though and was strategic as he stayed to the shadows. Still, a camera was pointed right where he needed to be, so he placed a hand on the muddy ground as he closed his eyes.

‘Plants of Earth, your God seeks your help.’

It was silent for a moment before he heard some nearby plants reply, their voices slightly gargled.

“We are the plants of the sea. How may we aid?”

Makoto smiled as he looked at the camera, ‘It’s a lot to ask, but are any of you able to turn that camera away so I can approach?’

The seaweed was quiet, but Makoto instead heard the call of another organism.

“No, but mighty wood of ages will assist.”

Makoto watched as a nearby tree moved instead, a few branches reaching and slowly moving the camera away.

Makoto smiled, “Thank you.”

The God then quickly made his approach, removing his bag and quickly shifting forms. Yomi wouldn't be able to sense him as he was the same magic as the world itself, but he still wanted to work fast in case any of his Peacekeepers who had the sight saw him while on patrol.

He quickly put a hand to the water to once again communicate with the seaweed, but yelped as the water stung him, sharply pulling his hand back. The powerful magic hurt like a bitch and Makoto swore as he shook his hand, trying to regain some sense of touch.

Still, he closed his eyes as he tried to find any trace of life.

It took a while, but sure enough, he felt the energy of the Moon God.

However it was very faint.

Makoto gasped in shock, “Shit, what do I do? I can't jump in there.”

But once again, Earth came to his aid.

“We'll find him. Place your hand just above the water. We will be your eyes.”

Makoto nodded as he placed his hand only a millimetre away from the edge. As he closed his eyes, he felt seaweed rise up and wrap around his digits, almost forming into a giant hand so Makoto could control them safely.

He shared the vague location he felt the life spark and the plants dove down. It took a while, but Makoto felt them grab something humanoid. His eyes shot open.

“That's him. Bring him up!”

The plants answered the call, although they were careful with their precious cargo.

The second Yuma was pulled out, Makoto was horrified.

Yuma had reverted to his God form, but what was more concerning was that the God himself was partially see through. Makoto didn't care that the two had never come into contact before, he quickly embraced Yuma, placing a hand on his forehead.

His forehead was on fire, and he was letting out laboured breaths.

Yuma, God of the Moon, was dying.

Makoto's face was full of concern, but he still looked back at the seaweed, “Thank you. You did a brave thing.”

The plants wiggled as Makoto quickly switched forms once more, bringing the suffering God to the bag he brought with him, and carefully placing him inside. He couldn't carry Yuma out in the open after all. Putting his brother in the bag would at least mean Yomi didn't see him.

And just to make sure, in case any Peacekeepers tried to check the bag, he zipped up the fake pocket and put the random items he had in there on top, as well as some long golf clubs to really sell it. He was perfectly concealed.

Now Makoto grunted as he put the bag on his back, it now being considerably heavier. Still, Makoto bared it as he hurried back to the tower.

‘Hold on Yuma. Please don't let go.’

The second Makoto was back in his penthouse, he placed the bag down and tore off his raincoat. He then pulled the bag as close as he could get to his bedroom door before he unzipped it and grabbed Yuma. He quickly and carefully made sure he was secure in his hold before darting inside the bedroom where there were no windows. Yomi's piercing gaze would never reach him here.

He placed the Moon God on the bed before switching forms himself. Still, even with Yuma now safe, he had absolutely no idea what to do next. He carefully brushed Yuma's hair out of his mouth before he breathed it in.

Yuma was wheezing, his face flushed red and completely drenched in sweat and river water. The bag ride didn't help because clearly, the stuffy fabric had made the fever worse.

Makoto sighed as he looked over his flickering form, ‘How do I save him?’

He then blinked as he turned, his various house plants having moved to the door to peak in curiosity. Still, Makoto gasped, “You can't move! What if Yomi-kun sees you!?”

A few plants rustled in fear, but Makoto was only looking out for them. He sighed, “Sorry. I just…”

The plants seemed to understand however as they spoke.

“We help.”

“I help!”

Makoto turned and saw that a bit of seaweed was still on Yuma. Still, the plant carefully moved so Makoto could see it better.

“Use me as conduit! Transfer your power and help heal! If we all help, big bad scary God won't sense you!”

Makoto gasped as he looked at the seaweed, “But, that kind of energy will kill you!”

The plant moved to Yuma's chest where it remained, “Moon man's life more important! I gladly help!”

Makoto was still pained but nodded, “Alright, know that your sacrifice will not be in vain. I will plant a new melon seedling in your honour. Plant life balanced, as it should.”

Makoto took a breath as all the plants around the bedroom reached for Makoto, connecting him to the planet's life force as his eyes glowed.

The plants seemed to utter words Makoto didn't know, but the God still recited them as he lifted a hand towards Yuma.

Powerful energy shot out from Makoto, and straight to the seaweed on Yuma's chest. The seaweed still yelped, but Makoto still cast the magic, feeling his own energy connect to Yuma's own.

The green aura bathed the room as Makoto still worked his magic. Makoto watched as Yuma's form started to heal, his body becoming whole once more. Makoto strained until the spell was cast, collapsing once done.

The God slowly stumbled up, gasping before rushing to Yuma's side. He still had a bad fever, but the Moon God was once again back in his human form.

He'd been stabilised.

On his chest was a single piece of dried up dead seaweed.

Makoto still offered a silent apology, a prayer to Shinigami to protect the departed. While plant life didn't really have souls, he still wanted the Goddess of Death to acknowledge it. While he couldn't pray to her and communicate with her to come help, he knew she would at least get a feeling.

Still, now was the matter of Yuma. Yes he wasn't dying anymore, but he still had a bad fever. Unheard of for a God, but they lived in perilous times. Makoto placed his hand on his forehead and sighed, “Guess I have to nurse you back to health… foolish brother.”

Still, Makoto rested his forehead against Yuma's as his eyes glowed once more.

“Come back, God of the Moon. Your task is far from over.”

Makoto got to work on wrapping Yuma up in blankets. Yes he had a fever, but he'd seen humans do this with sick family members. The God needed to stay warm, and since he ran naturally cold anyway, that meant he was gonna have to wrap him up like a burrito in multiple duvets.

Makoto wanted to get him to drink water too, but while unconscious it wasn't a good idea.

He grumbled as he returned to his human form, his mask now covering his face, “How do the humans even care for their sick offspring? This is a monumental task and I have no idea where to begin.”

The plants chortled, “Cool cloth on head.”

Makoto turned to them, wondering how they even knew that, but didn't question it as he went to get the necessary item. Makoto was of course stealthy as he changed into his own PJ's so it looked like he was getting water before bed. He even got a glass and hid the towel under his shirt. He even pretended to spill water and look exasperated at the damp patch to really sell it before returning to the bedroom.

Makoto carefully got the cool compress on Yuma's head and thankfully his expression seemed to soften. His complexion was still terrible and his head was still a fiery furnace, but Makoto was trying gosh darn it.

‘Such a pain. At least now you're as warm as your beloved Pompous husband.’

It wasn't really an insult at Yuma, but a dig at the Sun God who Makoto really wasn't a fan of. Still, Makoto just observed Yuma's condition. As he didn't need to sleep, Makoto wanted to spend these hours while Yomi thought he was ‘sleeping’ to make sure Yuma was okay.

Yuma slept for two days straight without incident. Makoto just continued his work like normal during the day and observed his patient at night. He just did his best to keep Yuma's head cool, and his body warm in hopes of a swift recovery.

That was until the third day.

On the third evening, Yuma sat up like a shot as Makoto was in the middle of getting himself into his PJ's. Makoto wasn't expecting this but he knew something was wrong by Yuma's panicked breathing.

As Makoto moved however, those eyes sharply turned to him. They were glowing.

Yuma was in his human form right now so his powers should have been restricted unless he was using his mind altering abilities, but here they were, glowing brightly and full of magic.

Before he could speak, Yuma started to kick off the duvets, “The Moon! There's no Moon!”

Makoto knew now that Yuma was definitely not mentally present. It appeared that his powers had hijacked his body and Yuma was now in survival mode.

Yuma turned to the door and started scrambling to get to it, “I need the Moon! I need to see it!”

Makoto panicked. If Yuma opened those doors and Yomi saw him before he recovered, it would be game over. Makoto muttered a silent apology before he launched himself towards Yuma, tackling him to the ground, “Oh no you don't. You need to get back in bed right now!”

Both Gods hit the floor with a thud. Yuma however was still scrambling, fear on his face as he tried to claw his way to the door again, “I HAVE TO SEE IT! I NEED TO SEE IT! IT CAN'T BE GONE!”

Makoto however did his best to restrain Yuma, turning him so his back was to the ground, “Yuma! Calm down! You're still in a fragile condition!”

Yuma however started to sob as his movements slowed. Yuma's body shook as he whimpered, “... I… without it… without my celestial body… I'll vanish into the void.”

Makoto was still as Yuma sniffled, “I don't… I don't want Shinigami-chan to take my soul… I can't… I need to save people… I don't want to leave him alone… without me he'll break…”

Makoto knew Yuma was of course talking about Desuhiko. While he hated how much the Sun God made everything about himself, he finally saw just how much Yuma cared. Even in a delirious state, he was still worried about his beloved more than himself.

The God sighed as he got Yuma to sit up. The God looked confused as his face was still flush with fever (and he was probably confused by Makoto’s mask). He'd clearly relapsed slightly thanks to all this movement by the looks of it. Makoto however put his hands on Yuma's shoulders, “Listen here. The Moon is fine. There's just clouds covering it which is making it impossible for you to connect with it and replenish your Godly energy. You are still here. You are far stronger than you give yourself credit, Yuma. You are far stronger than this so focus on beating this thing.”

Makoto gulped as he looked at Yuma sternly, “I'll protect the Moon in your absence.”

Makoto knew it was a gamble, but he was pretty sure Yuma wasn't going to remember any of this.

“As your brother, I will protect my satellite. You have my word.”

Yuma seemed to blink blearily, but seemed to calm down as he tried to cup Makoto's face. He failed as his depth perception was off, but he nodded.

“I… leave it to… you… God of Earth.”

And with that, Yuma's eyes stopped glowing and he slumped onto Makoto. The God of Earth sighed, “You're a pain in my ass, Yuma.”

Makoto just picked up the unconscious God and placed him back in the bed. He returned the seaweed to his chest before wrapping him carefully in a duvet cocoon once again. He then wet the cloth in the ensuite bathroom before putting it back on Yuma's forehead.

Makoto looked at Yuma as he breathed weakly, ‘... I wonder… should I have revealed myself centuries ago? Would this even be happening if I hadn't hidden my existence?’

But Makoto quickly shook his head, ‘No, Yomi-kun would still be power hungry. I'm the best shot we have at stopping him.’

Still, Makoto still carefully brushed Yuma's forehead softly as he carefully spoke.

“I promise to take care of you. This is my fault after all. I should have stopped Yomi-kun sooner. I'm the one who let the God infiltrate my company. I should have snuffed him out long ago.”

Yuma breathing seemed to slowly even out then. Still, Makoto carefully climbed into bed as he hugged his brother. He'd never really be fond of personal contact, but still, he wanted to be there for Yuma.

He would be his guardian and protect him in his darkest hour.

After a few more days, Yuma fever finally cleared. The fever was gone and Makoto knew he would awaken any minute now. He cleared his schedule for the occasion and smiled as he stroked Yuma's cheek, checking once again that damn fever was definitely gone.

Yuma was once again cold to the touch. Back to his usual temperature.

Still, as Makoto stroked his cheek, Yuma smiled softly in his sleep.

“... Desu… hiko-kun…”

Makoto paused as he removed his hand. The God gazed at Yuma with a neutral expression.

“... You really do love him, don't you Yuma?”

Makoto knew he couldn't reply, but still gazed softly.

“... I wish I knew love like that.”

Makoto turned on his heel after that. Deep down he knew it was his truth. He had always been jealous of Yuma. Unlike him, he was loved. Both by Desuhiko and the rest of the Gods. Yuma never knew the sting of loneliness.

And that had always made Makoto's heart burn.

Still, Makoto knew this was his own doing and simply straightened himself and discarded his thoughts. After all, now was a vital step. He needed Yuma to contact Shinigami of his own free will so they could stop Yomi. They needed her scythe and Yuma was the only God who could get it.

The stage would be set.

And Makoto would make sure he was on the winning side.

For now though, Makoto just smiled as he watered his little melon plants. After a few moments he finally heard Yuma stir and smiled.

‘Time to play the role of human CEO once more and give my brother the hint he needs to set the wheels in motion.’

Makoto smiled as he heard Yuma step into the room

‘Show time.’

“Oh good, you’re up! And here I thought I was going to have to perform CPR on you.”

Notes:

There we go! Now you know how much Makoto went through to help Yuma! Makoto did his best to help him, even if Yuma doesn't remember half of it!

Okay, up next is a fun one, Makoto crashing Yuma and Desuhiko's first eclipse party after Yuma is released from Shinigami's services! I hope you look forward to it because I am (and this isn't an excuse to write MakoYumaHiko shenanigans, nope 🤣).

For those waiting for Hallows and Howls, don’t worry, I am still working on it, I just had this piece ready to go first (I wrote it while I was waiting in a queue at a con to pass the time).
