Making Houses and Messes

Summary:

Sun and Moon get gingerbread house kits and try to make gingerbread houses. They have no idea what they’re doing.

Notes:

This fic is inspired by me being terrible at making gingerbread houses. Enjoy!

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

“Alright, Moon!” Sun says, “We’ve got spare gingerbread house kits, and I’m not going to let them go to waste!” Sun proclaims.

“Do you even know how to make a gingerbread house?” Moon questions.

“Not at all!” Sun cheerfully says. Moon sighs.

“Let’s get this over with,” he says as he opens one of the kits. The kit is of the Millennium Falcon. Sun opens his kit of Barbie’s dream house.

“Alright, we have the cookie pieces. How do we attach them?” Sun ponders.

“We could use the ici-”

“Glitter glue!” Sun exclaims as he runs to find some glitter glue.

“That’s not- and he’s gone,” Moon says with disappointment. Sun returns triumphantly with two bottles of glitter glue in his hands.

“One for me,” Sun says as he sets down a bottle of pink glitter glue, “and one for you,” he continues as he sets down a bottle of gray glitter glue in front of Moon.

“Thanks,” Moon says wryly as he sets the bottle aside. They unwrap the cookies and start assembling their houses. Sun uses glitter glue to hold the pieces together, and Moon uses icing. Sun and Moon struggle to keep their structures together. They also keep on getting glue and icing on their hands.

“It keeps on slipping!” Sun complains.

“Well, maybe if you hadn’t used glitter glue,” Moon replies sarcastically.

“Yours isn’t doing any better!” Sun retorts. “Moon, can you help me?” Sun asks after his house slides apart… again. Moon sighs.

“Sure. What do you want me to do?”

“Can you hold the pieces while I glue them?”

“Sure,” Moon says as he holds the house together. Sun adds extra glue to the house while Moon holds it together.

“Okay, you can stop now!” Sun tells Moon.

“If I let go, it’s gonna fall again. We need to wait for it to dry,” Moon explains.

“THAT’S why it wouldn’t stay together!” Sun realizes.

“....Yup,” Moon says, not knowing how to respond to Sun’s stupidity, even though he only realized it a few minutes ago. They wait for the glue to dry before Sun holds Moon’s ship together while Moon puts the icing on it and waits for that to dry as well.

“Tada!!” Sun says as he shakes his hands next to the ship.

“Nice.”

“And now, we decorate!” Sun exclaims as he reaches for more candy and icing. The two animatronics put the decorations on their structures. Moon’s decorations stay on better because his is flatter, whereas Sun’s candies keep sliding down.

“We probably should have decorated *before* putting the house together,” Moon remarks.

“Oh, right,” Sun says.

“You should wait for the glue and icing to dry before moving on,” Moon suggests.

“But that'll take forever!” Sun complains.

“I’ll help,” Moon says as he grabs a bag of icing.

“Thanks!” Sun says as he gets back to decorating. The two of them finish decorating Sun’s house and admire their work. It looks incredibly messy and poorly made but they tried their best and that’s what counts.

“How are we gonna get this mess cleaned up!?” Sun cries as he sees the mess the two of them made of themselves and the table.

“I’ll get the bleach,” Moon begrudgingly says as he leaves. The two spend the rest of the day meticulously cleaning themselves and the table.

Notes:

Fun fact: Moon’s house is based off of a kit I used once and Sun’s is based on a kit I found today while looking for Barbie themed gingerbread houses for my culinary class!
