Chapter Text
It wasn't very known throughout the avengers team that Peter could actually act rather spider-like, many of them not having experienced the extent of the spider instincts Peter could have.
There had been a few horror scenes of Peter moving in an inhuman way that could cause the avengers to shudder.
But most of them didn't know about the other things Peter could do, only around three of the avengers even knew that Peter had fangs.
So when Peter felt the urge to create a web, he knew that at least one person would be surprised as he scurried off to the living room, crawling on the ceiling and surveying the room.
The only person there was Clint, one of the few people who had experienced the horror of the true spider nature of Peter.
And also one of the few who hadn't been absolutely terrified, something Peter had guessed was because even regular kids were scary, and Clint had a family and could deal with the chaos of children.
So Peter decided it would be fine to start crafting the carefully made web that he had the urge to create, creating the thin but strong threads that would be the basis for his web.
“Don't accidentally hit me with a web,” Clint had eventually said when a web had been shot a little bit close to where he was sitting on the couch watching a random Christmas movie that had been playing even though it had just turned December.
It had always been in the colder weather that Peter would act more like a spider, probably because of the stress his body had to deal with without the thermal regulation of a regular human.
Peter gave a thumbs up before shooting another web, careful to make sure that the placement would keep Clint out of the way of any future webs being placed.
It had only taken around thirty minutes for the web to be finished, and he had left a walkway for Clint who had gone to get himself and Peter a cinnamon roll, warmed in the oven for a minute, to eat.
“Thanks!” Peter smiled as he snacked on the cinnamon roll, once he had finished he looked at Clint, “you aren't gonna get up any time soon, right?”
“No probably not” Clint smiled at Peter as he finished up the web by covering the walkway, going back to his movie afterwards.
Scrambling across the web, he found a good spot to watch the movie too, however only got to watch about an hour before his spider sense buzzed in a way not in danger but in a way that made him want to protect the web.
Natasha has walked out from the elevator, Nat had only witnessed a few moments where Peter looked like he didn't have bones, so she had looked at the web in confusion, “what's this about?”
Peter just settled with a glare, sitting on one of the steadier web strands.
The silence stretched out for a few moments, before Nat moved towards the kitchen, knowing that it was probably best not to question this.
Sadly for Peter, it wouldn't just be one person being around, because after another ten minutes, Bruce had walked into the room, and looked really confused about the web, “uhm.”
“He's just gonna glare at you,” Nat said from one of the seats in the kitchen.
When Bruce didn't move, Peter crawled towards him a bit, flashing his fangs as a warning, not a threat that he would use his fangs but a warning not to bother his web.
“Holy shit?!” Bruce took a step back, “Peter has fangs?!”
“Wait what?” Natasha looked over, seeing the sharp fangs that could likely produce venom, “Bruce you may want to back up some more, He looks venomous.”
Bruce looked towards Nat with wide eyes then back at Peter, “Definitely venomous! Peter I'm your teammate-”
“Take a few more steps back.” Peter said in a harsh tone moving forward while bending his arms wrong, but as soon as the scared scientist took those steps back Peter just chuckled, “I wasn't going to actually bite you”
Bruce simply nodded, quickly finding his way back out of the room.
“So are you actually venomous?” Nat had luckily been rather calm about this, much like Clint. Even if Peter's spider sense kept buzzing with the urge to defend his territory, something that he chalked up to the fact that Natasha's hero name was also a spider's name.
Since spider's were also territorial, it was easy for Peter to assume that he was too.
With a nod, he went on to explain, “the venom is deadly, it was honestly terrifying the first time my spider sense made me bite someone and that person passed out, but luckily I didn't use enough venom to kill.”
“Hm. You could use that in battle easily if you learned how to control the venom release, that way it doesn't kill” Nat suggested, and Peter would probably end up following that and try to utilize it.
After a bit he started to work on a larger platform on the webs that he'd be able to sit on and watch the movie, which had switched to a new one.
Right before he could finish, Steve and Bucky walked in, with a much more careful Bruce behind them.
Bucky looked at Peter, “Bruce said that you were acting terrifying right now,” he looked towards Bruce, “it's just a web?”
“It's not just a web” Bruce frowned, Peter imagined the man would be a bit less scared of him contorting his body in non-human ways.
“It really just looks like a web, Bruce” Steve sighed, “Peter I don't know why he's acting so terrified of you.”
“I have a bit of an idea” Peter huffed, and decided just to embrace the spiderness today, crawling forward on the web, “I don't think he likes fangs”
“Fangs?” Steve tilted his head, while Bucky just understood.
Bucky had seen the fangs but not any of the other stuff, although maybe he had seen some of the more minor wrong movements.
Peter opened his mouth a bit and pointed to the sharp fangs he had, before shrugging, “they aren't that noticeable”
“Bruce, shouldn't you be completely fine with fangs, you do science stuff all the time, you've surely seen weirder things” Bucky glanced over at the man.
Bruce took a deep breath, “the fangs weren't that bad when explained. But the fact he can move in ways that he shouldn't be able to is horrifying to witness.”
“I think he moves normally. For a spider.” Nat says from the kitchen, slightly enjoying the situation.
Peter nodded, “exactly. I'm a perfectly normal Spider person.” He stood on one of the web strands before pulling himself to the roof in a way that he shouldn't be able to.
Steve's eyes widened slightly, “I see your point, Bruce-”
Bucky took a few steps forward, “I think you guys just haven't seen enough weird stuff.”
The fact he had approached the web made Peter's spider sense buzz, then the man had the audacity to take another step forward when talking to Clint.
And in the most spider like way possible, he fell back onto the web, landing perfectly, and hissed at Bucky, who immediately took five steps back.
“Okay what the fuck” was said from the kitchen, genuine shock from Natasha who had been mostly unfazed by the spidery things.
Bruce just turned towards the elevator and got the hell out of there, Peter could respect that, mostly because he knew how off-putting it was for other people when he hissed.
Steve was in a shocked silence.
Clint decided now was a decent enough time to bring something up, “oh yeah you guys do realize spiders are territorial, right?”
“If I realized I wouldn't have gotten hissed at.” Bucky had mostly moved out of defensiveness and was also trying to keep Peter from getting more agitated.
Peter moved back up the web, “You all act as though I would actually bite you” he sat down on one of the strands, leaning back a bit.
“Well when you hiss at someone, what do you expect to happen?” Bucky crossed his arms.
Shrugging, Peter took note of the talking between Tony and Bruce.
Steve sighed, “Just try not to scare anyone too badly” he went into the kitchen, going to grab something to eat.
“Unless it's funny.” Nat chimed in, chuckling a bit.
Just then, the elevator doors opened once more, Bruce striding in with Tony following, “Tony, you gotta keep your spider in check.”
“The web fluid dissolves, Bruce you know this.” Tony pinched the bridge of his nose, thinking the web was what caused Bruce to be in such a panicked state, it was likely Bruce had dragged him from his lab just to show Tony.
Bruce shook his head, motioning towards Peter himself, “It's not the web! Take a few steps towards it and just watch.”
With an annoyed look towards Bruce, Tony stepped forward, waiting for something to happen before starting to walk forward more.
Peter raised his lips to show the fangs for a few seconds, moving a web line forward.
Tony just kept moving forward.
Hissing, Peter felt his spider sense urge him to pounce at Tony, so when the man took another step forward, he jumped forward to the bottom of the web, causing Tony to stop.
“See!” Bruce exclaimed, having taken a few steps back.
Clint was watching this go down, “Bruce you can't see it but Tony is not affected by Peter at all.”
“What!-”
“Peter isn't that scary.” Tony looked back at Bruce, “maybe you're just secretly arachnophobic.” sure the fact that Tony saw Peter as a son also aided to the lack of fear, it didn't matter.
Bruce shook his head, “I'd only be terrified of spiders if they were as big as Peter.”
“Wow so you are terrified of me?” Peter feigned hurt, looking away with a sad look, sniffling a little for added effect.
Bruce seriously nodded, “yeah slightly.”
“Damn Bruce, you're really scared of the kid?” Tony chuckled, looking at Bruce in amusement.
“As long as he doesn't do it at nighttime I'm not that scared.” Bruce went to the elevator, trying to get away sooner rather than later. Based on the fact he had just gotten scared, it clearly wasn't a night only thing.
Peter climbed back up to the web seat he had been making, “so now I'm gonna crawl on the walls in the middle of the night.”
Nat grinned, “I want to see the scares so bad.” Clearly she shared a similar comedy.
“Now if all of you guys could stop getting scared by me, I'm gonna finish this movie” Peter said as he finished the web seat and got comfy.
“Yeah yeah, finish the movie underoos” Tony said as he left.
The movie's ending was mediocre at best, like most really random Christmas movies nobody has ever heard of.
I mean seriously, what kind of movie ends with someone watching another movie?!

Chapter Text
Peter wasn't exactly quick to fulfill his spider-at-night scheme, with his patrol times primarily being later in the day and at night, he had limited time at the tower.
However it worked in his favor as well, because even if most of the avengers remembered that he could do those things, it should be possible to terrify them once again.
So, here he was sitting in a dark corner of the kitchen, on the roof of course, there wasn't even any guarantee one of his teammates would wander out into the kitchen in the middle of the night.
As to not be awake for no reason, Peter was using his phone to work on some coding projects, sure it would be easier to use a computer, but he could transfer the code over rather easily if he really wanted to.
And then he heard it, footsteps heading towards the kitchen, and something he had figured out just from hanging out with the rest of the avengers was how their footsteps sounded.
So of course he was grinning when it wasn't someone who would be calmer about it like Clint or Natasha, instead it was Steve.
Which made a decent amount of sense, since it wasn't truly the middle of the night and was currently around four in the morning.
Peter kept a close eye for when Steve would walk in, putting his phone into his pocket.
Steve would go for a run every morning, and it would just be earlier or later depending on if the super soldier wound up having a messed up sleep schedule.
So it would be time for a snack before the run just to make sure the man's metabolism wouldn't curse him to a life of pain, something Peter could relate to but hadn't been able to do much about for a long while when first starting out as a hero.
Shaking his head, Peter knew he needed to get back on track scaring Steve.
So he pulled his mask down onto his face, the lenses to his mask being a glowing red, something he had arranged with Karen, a new protocol he called ‘scare mode' and he had been lucky enough that Tony hadn't gotten alerted to it.
With his last few seconds before Steve made it into the kitchen, Peter strung a few webs to step on for when he needed to move in a more daunting way.
Back in the corner, he grinned when Steve walked in, the man had glanced around as if he expected Peter to be somewhere, but didn't manage to catch a glimpse of the narrowed red lenses.
Waiting until Steve was rummaging through the box of specially designed protein bars, Peter hissed in a low grumble kind of way.
Steve jumped and looked towards the corner, where he could see the red lenses.
It caused the man to take a few steps back, “jeez!-” there was a sharp intake of breath as Peter jumped forward onto a line of web, causing it to swing back and forth slowly.
With another hiss, Steve dashed to grab a protein bar before getting out of the kitchen, heading for the elevator to get away.
Dashing between lines of web, Peter landed in front of the elevator with the metal legs of the iron spider spreading outwards while Steve watched with a spooked expression.
Once those doors had closed, Peter kept his grin as he turned off scare mode and went back to his room to take off the suit and possibly get a few hours of sleep.
“Friday did you get that on camera?” He asked while pulling blankets around him on his bed.
“Of course I did, Peter” Friday almost matched his mischievous tone of voice, something that had Peter grinning once again.
“Thanks Fri!” He chirped as he laid down, thinking of all the ways he could make it more terrifying.
Those ways included utilizing different web stand points to dash and flip around, along with using his mechanical spider legs to move quicker and in a more spider-like way.
So he moved to the training room while everyone else was away, setting up some webs he started practicing maneuvering around the different lengths and gaps.
And with each time done right, he started to use more of his odd movements to get around quicker and creepier.
Once he was done with a group of webs, he'd change the layout.
Pretty quickly it became easier to tune into what everyone else was speaking about, more importantly what frantic things Steve was saying to Clint.
“I think he was trying to stab me with a mechanical leg!” Steve certainly sounded panicked.
Peter expected Clint to deny it, but surprisingly in the most calm tone of voice Clint responded with, “Spiders are territorial, maybe he was too tired to control the instincts.”
“Hell yea-” he got caught on one of the webs, maybe he should've been paying a bit more attention.
Pulling his arm free, he focused on getting back into the flow of it before listening back in.
“It was probably a one time thing” Clint was saying it still in a calm voice.
However Steve had also begun calming down, “you're right, but if it happens again I'll tell everyone.”
Peter was starting to realize that maybe Clint was helping him with the scare, because if another avenger was posing a threat, it would be the best course of action to tell everyone.
It was pretty likely Clint had immediately recognized it to be a joke, considering the man did have kids of his own who would probably also jump at the opportunity to scare the world's greatest heroes.
Another failed jump made him pay attention to what he was doing once again.
Pretty soon however, he heard someone coming close to the training room so he cleared out the webs and retracted his spider legs, walking out and heading towards his room, giving a happy smile to Steve on his way.
That night came rather quickly, and he started to set up webs to jump around, creating an intricate pattern of the different strings of the webs.
With all of it set up, he sat in a crosspoint for six of the web lines, right in the middle of the living room, high enough up to be able to hold a steady hand on the ceiling.
Right before he could continue the code he was working on, he heard footsteps, causing him to spread out the legs of the iron spider, each one touching a web.
Preparing a pouncing position, he listened to the steps. They were quiet and careful, though they weren't as quiet or careful as Nat's steps.
After paying a bit more attention, he frowned and his legs moved back into the suit, “Clint why couldn't you have been someone I could scare.” He complained as the man walked into the room and flicked the lights on, something that had Peter blinking a few times.
“I needed to make sure me brushing off Steve's terror was the right move.” Clint looked around at what was the web for Peter to move across was, “Who knows, you really could've been trying to murder someone.”
Swinging down on a web, Peter chuckled, “I doubt I would ever do that; The worst the spider instincts have done is making me hiss at people.”
“Not even bite anyone? Because I swear my daughter occasionally just says she has the urge to bite things, so being part spider would probably amplify that.” Clint smiled softly for a moment, seemingly thinking about his daughter and her craziness.
Peter could also smile at that, before his face shifted to something a little more serious “I don't anymore after I thought I killed a guy when figuring out I had venom.” He winced at the memory just because he could feel his own panic from the experience, “The fangs aren't even noticeable until I'm actively poisoning someone!”
“Yeah I didn't even notice that those were actual fangs” Clint chuckled for a moment, “well I'm gonna go back to sleep now that I know you aren't going to accidentally kill someone” the man turned and started walking off, “don't stay up all night”
“You should know that's not happening!” Peter called back as he flipped the lights back off, sleeping wasn't going to happen until he could scare at least one more person.
Swinging back on the web with practiced ease, he spent a few minutes just mindlessly climbing along the webs, waiting for something to happen.
When he decided walking around wouldn't exactly do anything for him, he sat back close to the middle of the room and continued on the code once more, at this rate he'd have the code done before he was done scaring.
To be fair he wasn't sure when he'd stop, either when he got to scare most of the avengers, or when they just figured out it was him messing around.
Whichever comes first, he supposed.
Every hour or so, he'd move around to just stretch, even at some point grabbing a snack that he was worried would get him caught.
And after three hours, yes he was counting, he froze hearing the slightest noise of footsteps, so he stashed his phone in his pocket and tried to silently stretch out his spider legs.
The footsteps were that of a spy, so he was easy to piece together who it was, Natasha.
It would certainly pose a challenge to actually scare her, sure he had managed to startle her, but actually scaring her might not happen.
So… he decided on the backup plan, making her paranoid and occasionally looking spider-like in the limited light of the room.
She was heading towards the kitchen, so he followed, intentionally strumming a few webs along the way, causing her to look back.
Peter was silent enough to make her go back to what she was doing, but another issue appeared, she turned on the lights in the kitchen.
Which made him scurry back into the darkness, while simultaneously questioning why the hell Steve had gotten his food in the dark.
He watched from afar as she got a glass of water, before leaning on a counter while drinking it, seemingly a little on guard, with looks that he swore met his own gaze most of the time towards the dark.
But the one thing that helped him out was allies.
A grin appeared on Peter's face as the lights flickered for a few seconds before completely turning off.
And that made Nat immediately go on guard, silently she set down the mostly empty glass of water on the counter and moved to a more battle ready position.
Peter moved slowly forward, loudly hitting a web before jumping further towards her on a different web line, making her have to look around at different areas, not able to see in the dark like Peter's slight night vision.
Friday seemed to sense the vibe and made the lights flash for a second, Peter used the second to pounce forward, aiming for a closer and lower web as a way to scare Nat.
However he probably should've planned for the possibility of weapons, because before he knew it a gunshot ran through the air and his side blossomed with a familiar pain.
He didn't even need to cause himself to hide the pained sound, because that sound was a hiss, something that was likely to be creepy.
Peter had a choice to make here, stop acting spider-like because he had just been shot, or continue on as to not risk the scares.
So…
He crawled along the web once again, metal legs supporting him more when pain shot through him.
Peter knew that Friday would be quick to alert Tony he had been injured, but that still left ample time to finish scaring Natasha and getting back to his own room.
Speaking of Natasha, she had seemed to hesitate to attack again, probably realizing that even if she believed that he was completely spidery right now, she still just shot him.
The taps of the spider legs were a little more noticeable now as well, so Peter decided to just go for the more direct approach, hissing another time.
Clutching his side when a flare of pain went through him, Peter could feel the blood on his hand, and he grimaced at the feeling of the liquid.
Moving closer to Nat again, she backed up, but had put away the gun, clearly knowing that shooting him was the wrong move that had really been reflex.
It would probably confuse her if he didn't appear to have been shot in the morning.
Which obviously meant he had to do just that and act like he wasn't injured at all, which wouldn't be as difficult as it would be for most, he had to go to school injured more times than he could count.
Such is the life of a vigilante.
Attempting to wipe the tears gathered in his eyes because of pain wasn't Peter's brightest idea, as it just got blood on his face, but he'd just have to deal with it until he decided enough was enough.
The lights flickered once again for a couple of seconds, and he figured he must either look scary, or on the verge of dying, because Nat took a step back with a scared look.
Jumping down onto the ground with the spider legs catching him, the clink it made being a shock of a sound in the silent room.
The feeling of losing blood had him deciding it had been long enough, so he moved back to his room, legs clinking against the ground to indicate him leaving.
And he could hear Natasha following, so with a hiss, he shot a web to stop her and ran into his room.
Peter took a deep breath almost as soon as he was in his room, that was a mild success, but getting shot wasn't something he wanted to do again.
“Friday if you already alerted Tony can you tell him I'll be fine dealing with the wound alone?” Peter was going into the bathroom connected to his room to reach the first aid supplies he knew were kept there.
Friday was quick to respond, “he is insisting to come and make sure everything is okay”
“Tell him that I'm already handling it and that he can check in the morning.” Peter huffed, pulling out the bandages and a special device to get bullets out, something which he used hastily before wrapping the wound, “also mention that I'm about to go to sleep.”
“Tony agreed,” Friday finally said.
That made Peter smirk a bit, knowing that mentioning sleep would work perfectly, it was no secret that Peter needed more sleep, similar to Tony himself.
Pulling himself under his blankets, he sighed, “Scaring the person with weapons always on them wasn't a very bright idea” Peter tried to get comfy without aggravating the gunshot wound.
It took awhile, but eventually he could feel the pull of sleep.
Tony had made sure to fuss over him in the morning, but had promised to not tell anyone even if he found it odd.
Peter would just have to scare Tony at some point, then the man would know why he didn't want anyone knowing about the injury.
Soon after Tony left and Peter got ready for the day, he walked into the living room with the best act he could pull together considering he had just gotten shot hours prior.
And he was very glad to see his target in the room, Natasha was talking to Bruce and she had immediately glanced over at Peter with a worried look when he walked in.
He gave a happy smile and wave to them, walking towards the elevator, Peter was tempted to talk to her but he needed to act normal; so he was heading to the lab.
While in the elevator he listened to what the two were saying, Bruce spoke first “he seemed fine to me, are you sure you weren't having a nightmare?”
“I saw the blood two hours later!” Nat retaliated.
“There's no blood there now though,” Bruce sighed, “you could just ask Peter about it”
That was an interesting thing, the blood had gotten clean, and presumably by someone who would understand what could've happened, meaning Tony or Clint.
But it wouldn't really be something he would get to know unless he asked them or if one of the two brought it up.
Asking Tony might ruin the scare value though, so he went on his merry way and worked on things in the lab, starting to put that code to good use.
Peter had been working on another spy-der robot that could track, record, launch webs, and make silly little noises.
Not to be confused with Nat, the resident Spy-der.
Also not to be confused with Peter himself, the resident spider.
And if he could finish the code in time, he could use it as help to scare people, although he really only had a few people left to actually scare unless he started to do it more than once, which would work for Steve, but definitely not Nat.
Shaking the plans away, he focused back on working on the robot.
Peter had not gotten to finish the robot in basically any sense while in the lab, and he was sad he wouldn't get to use it on what would probably be his best scare.
Bruce Banner, who was currently walking towards the living room unaware of the spider waiting for him in the darkness.
It was a disappointment he wouldn't get to go all out with robots and specialized things, but he'd do the absolute best he could with what he had.
So he perched up on one of the highest webs, and waited until Bruce was well into the room before making a quiet hissing sound for a few long seconds, sounding almost like television static.
The noise seemed to put Bruce off, glancing around in the dark room, making a swift walk towards the light switch, but Peter couldn't let that happen, so he shot a web over the light switch and hoped that would do the trick.
At the prospect of not being able to use the light switch, Bruce seemed to make a consideration, looking between the kitchen and the elevator.
Peter knew not to try scaring him more at this point, he could block off the exits if Bruce went to the kitchen, so he stayed as silent as he physically could.
After another moment of what felt like everlasting silence, Bruce hesitantly walked towards the kitchen, eyes set on the light switch.
The spider let the man have a sense of security as the lights flicked on, it was something Peter had prepared for however, keeping webs clear of the kitchen light this time.
Peter was putting trust in the tower's ai, hoping she would keep the elevator closed as he webbed the stairs door to the wall, and then used a different web setting to create a quick web over the doorway to the hallways containing bedrooms.
He paid attention to Bruce once again, stalking closer on a long web, hissing quietly once again.
Bruce tensed up hearing it, glancing towards the darkness that the man wouldn't know would cover the entire floor soon.
With a loud hiss, he pounced forward at the same time as shooting a web and flicking the light off, Bruce getting to see the suit for a few moments before being bathed in shadows.
And Bruce let out a full on shriek like he was about to be murdered, stumbling backwards and away from Peter, dropping the glass he was holding, unfortunately causing Peter to slice his foot while landing.
He immediately knew that he was once again on a time limit, similar to when he needed to hurry because of Tony rushing to see why he had gotten shot, but this time it was the entire Avengers team because Bruce had just screamed bloody murder.
However he could also see the telltale signs of Bruce trying to keep calm and not get too upset, so he made an audible scuttle away and into the living room, hissing when he accidentally shattered a smaller piece of glass.
“Scared of glass?” Bruce mumbled, before Peter could hear the cabinet opening and glasses clinking together.
Peter used webs to yank the glass away, wincing when the glass shattered from being hit into a pillar, but to keep up the act and also just express his annoyance he hissed, looking similar to a bristled cat.
Of course Bruce didn't see that though, so the man, full force, probably tapping into the hulk's strength, chucked a glass right where Peter was.
Luckily Peter had a web above him and the handiest spider sense around, so he managed to jump up and snag onto the web right before the glass exploded into tiny shards.
Going completely silent, he moved across the webs, the only sound being the occasional ‘thwip of his web shooters firing and hitting walls.
Bruce stood defensively armed with a glass, looking alert and mouthing out numbers to stay calm.
Taking this time to listen to where the other avengers were, he could hear Tony telling Friday to let him on the elevator, especially because Peter was pretty sure Friday would alert Tony of him being injured even if it was just some glass.
The avengers in their rooms were getting armed, and Nat was about to get out into the hallway.
Bruce has settled a little, so Peter thought it would be time to break out the big guns, so he quietly whispered “make my lenses red”
“Color changed successfully,” Karen's kind voice said.
“Thanks Karen” he whispered in response, also letting the robotic spider legs appear from his back, walking along the web towards Bruce, tilting his head as he approached, red eyes piercing through the darkness.
Bruce, clearly off put, tried throwing another glass, but the attempt was futile as Peter dodged with ease, only furthering his prowl towards Bruce.
The lights flickered for just a moment, and then in the darkness a voice could be heard, “Fuck there's a web!” Steve had made it there first, and had gotten stuck in the web he had masterfully placed in the hallway.
Based on the sounds of it too, there were a few more people around, he could hear Tony coming up the elevator.
It was sad he couldn't gasp at the profanity Steve had used, even though the captain only cursed occasionally in high stress situations, everyone still makes fun of him each and every time
It was time to up his act before he was revealed, Peter shrugged, turning to look at Steve, lights flickering at an appropriate time to see the robotic legs moving into a pouncing position.
“Steve, get out of that web!” Bruce grabbed another cup and managed to hit Peter with it, the lights flickered red for the few moments the shattered and flew off of the metal legs it had hit.
There was a sound of struggle as Steve attempted to get free, but Peter hissed and ran to the web Steve was trapped in, climbing on top of it with ease even as it shook.
Peter placed two metal legs on Steve's head, while webbing the man completely up, spraying a web over his mouth before getting a glass cup to the back of his head and causing him to fall forward, feeling pain blossoming from the back of the head.
“Oh crap-” Bruce had heard the thud and wasn't thrilled about actually hurting Peter as he assumed he did, he was simply trying to keep Steve alive in a moment of panic.
Nat approached slowly, Peter listened to each step, “Peter? You okay?”
Waiting a few good seconds, he jumped up and webbed Nat, hissing loudly.
He grinned at the yelps and sounds of people jumping, spider legs flaring outwards as he stops, and as the elevator doors opened and Tony ran out, his threatening shadow loomed over Clint and Bucky, both of which looked less worried than the rest of the group.
There was a faint glow from Tony's repulsor blasters as the elevator doors closed, “Friday turn on the lights”
Peter was concerned his plan would be foiled, but as the lights flashed a dim glow for ten seconds before going dark again, he grinned, turning towards Tony.
Jumping onto the webs in the air, he jumped web to web towards the man, low quiet hiss prevalent in the silence of the room.
“Tony, don't fall into your father instincts” Bruce warned, “he is eight armed and dangerous.”
Peter struggled to keep in a laugh at that, which caused his hiss to stop ringing through the room, snapping attention back to him, so he stayed there quietly, trying to push a fake recognition in his eyes.
“Peter, hey Pete, mind fixing whatever you did to the lights and retracting your legs?” Tony tried to reason with him, and Peter almost chuckled at that, but he didn't, he took a small step forward before pouncing at him.
Tony dodged and Peter jumped back onto a web, hissing loudly, spider sense warning him of something mid jump to another web.
He got another glass to his head, damn it's like they were trying to give him a concussion, Peter tumbled to the ground, spider legs helping to land perfectly but he pushed himself into a roll and when he stopped left his spider legs curled around him like a dead spider.
“Bruce what the hell?!” Tony called out, rushing over to Peter and illuminating him with the repulsors.
Peter kept his eyes closed, relying on hearing the most out of all his senses, something Matt had hard pressed into him after learning Peter just got overwhelmed constantly by only being able to control his hearing a very limited amount of time.
Friday seemed to turn on the lights at that point, if the mumbled complaints about the brightness from Clint meant anything.
Bruce seemed hesitant to replay, “I'm sorry! It wasn't like I could see where I was throwing, just the general direction” he walked over.
Steve had gotten free, “why were you throwing cups to begin with?!
“He stopped what he was doing most of the time when glass shattered-” Bruce saying it out loud kind of made it seem like a horrible thing to keep doing, “I was kind of worried about being killed, he's absolutely terrifying.”
“Well you're gonna help me get him to the medical floor.” Tony was angry, clearly “so help me Bruce after Peter gets helped I'm going to throw you out of the tower.”
“I think Bruce is reasonable for having the response of violence” Natasha sighed, “I might have shot him…”
“You're the one who?!-” Tony turned to look at her, rage boiling because of how protective he felt over Peter.
Peter chose this moment to switch to his innocent child act, groaning and putting a hand to his head, “what happened…?”
“Someone” he shot a pointed look at Bruce, “threw a glass cup at you because he's scared of spiders”
“Wow what did he plan to do after that, put a paper underneath it to catch me?” Peter joked, but still attempted to push some pain into his voice.
Which was surprisingly easy to do even if the most pain he had was an almost fully healed gunshot wound, the shards of glass in his skin was a pain that he was used to.
“We're bringing you to the medbay, we all know you joke when you try to hide things, mostly your pain” Natasha said from where she was, still trying to get off a few remaining webs.
Peter grimaced, he didn't even think about that, but if it worked on his side he guessed it's fine.
Clint finally spoke up, “is now a bad time to say I put an exploding arrow on him while he was all spidery?” The quick look Clint shoots him is enough to reassure Peter that no he does not have a bomb attached to him.
“Holy shit Clint, why would you do that.” Bucky said it in a worried but knowing way, and Peter had no idea how he had figured it out but Bucky had figured out the joke.
That or Clint told him.
“Clint where the hell did it land?!” Tony was ten times more panicked, checking over Peter as quickly as he could.
Clint simply shrugged, “it's gonna go off any second now”
“Oh my God, Clint help find it!” At this point Steve had rushed over, just as worried about Peter as the rest of the people who still believed it.
Natasha had gone silent, something which made Peter glanced at her, and she had narrowed eyes, she was about to figure it out.
Peter's robotic spider legs stretched outwards, ending the curled up position they were before, “Well if I'm about to blow up I'm going to do it somewhere comfortable like my room.”
“Peter, no?!-” Tony tried to grab his arm but Peter seamlessly flipped up onto a web line and started walking with a perfect balance.
However then the world spun a little bit and he jumped onto the ceiling to have a better balance, “buh-bye”
Peter grinned hearing Bruce gasp, “he shouldn't know that web was there! He wasn't-” and then his door closed, knowing Bruce realized that he wasn't truly consumed by instincts.
Even if he wasn't excited to probably get grounded for doing that, Peter knew he had won at scaring them.
It was a happy ending for him.
…
“Peter I scanned your injuries, you have a concussion.” Friday said, concussion he probably got falling on the ground the first time.
“Fuck.”

Chapter Text
Peter was not excited about the fact that after he had convinced everyone that he had gotten the exploding arrow off, he was told that they needed to talk.
Turns out the talk was more of an interrogation because he got asked if everything he did was just a joke.
So, well… he wasn't just going to end the joke.
He lied easily to say that he wasn't even fully sure what was going on, and when Bruce asked about him knowing the web was there, Peter just used the excuse of his spider sense telling him what to do.
After that it had been an easy thing to get out of trouble, no real bumps in his road of lies all for a joke he was sure to continue.
The avengers, with his input, had decided on a fair course of action to make sure no one got hurt again because of his instincts, when he goes to sleep, the door will be locked by Friday.
Peter had to pretend like he was sure that would work, because even if the AI was on his side for this elaborate joke, this provided a new opportunity.
An opportunity.. to scare.
Even if four people now knew of the prank, not including himself and Friday, there were still a few who had little to no idea.
Plus, Peter was sure it wouldn't be difficult to convince Tony, Nat, and Bucky to actually help him with this.
The real problem would be getting Bucky to not tell Steve, who would likely attempt to put a stop to the prank.
He wasn't even sure if Tony would be able to be convinced because Peter had gotten hurt, not to mention the fake exploding arrow.
But lulling the people who didn't know into a false sense of security, while also convincing the others to not give him away, would require some time.
So he let some time pass while he got everyone else on his side, his first priority would be Bucky.
Peter waited the rest of the night before locating Bucky and pulling him off to the side, making sure no one, including super soldiers, would be able to hear.
“So you figured it out?” He didn't specify what, just in case Peter was wrong.
Bucky just nodded, “you seemed a little too okay waking up in the middle of the living room injured and surrounded by panicking Avengers.”
That was an immediate note he was going to work on, “You haven't told Steve yet, right?”
The shaking head to indicate no was a relief for Peter.
“Okay good, I don't want you to tell him, because I'm going to do a few more scares until either I get discovered, or it's more of a normal occurrence.” Peter explained the vague plan he had made.
“Won't you be locked in your room?” Bucky leaned against the wall across from Peter, deciding to hear Peter out on his plans.
Peter grinned evilly “oh that won't be a problem.”
“Alright.” Bucky started to leave, “I won't tell Steve.”
And with that, Peter had brought another person to his side. Something he thought would be a little more difficult than how it truly was.
The next person he needed to convince would be Natasha, just to let her know that he planned to continue.
Plus, Nat would really only be at risk of telling Clint, who was well aware of everything since the beginning.
Natasha being on Peter's side would be great when it came to the after effects of actually sustaining some injuries, or having a fake bomb attached to him.
Especially because if he was able to sell it, when he eventually pretended to come back to senses he could seem a lot more terrified and shocked at any possible gunshot wounds.
Only issue with that would be actually convincing one of his teammates to hurt him, because getting Natasha to shoot him could just fail completely, he had zero idea if the spy would agree.
At this point though, Peter was running with having zero idea if things would end with a cup to his head at this point.
Especially because now Bruce seemed jumpy around him, being a bit too obvious about hovering near where the cups are kept while Peter is in the room.
He's already given a few sad and confused looks to the man, in hopes that he'll get some sympathy.
Sympathy he would destroy when terrifying Bruce once again in an ultimate scare.
Peter decided to continue work on his spider creation before getting Natasha on his side, needing to have a good time to talk to her and hopefully Clint as well.
Although Peter thought that maybe having the guy with kids in the room as Peter tried to convince Natasha to shoot him, a kid, wouldn't go so well.
As he added in the different web modes to the spider drone, Spy-der drone, etcetera, name pending as to avoid confusion, Peter mulled over his plan a few more times.
Using the Spy-der, hyphen very prominent, he thought of just removing the hyphen from Natasha's nickname, especially because he hadn't really insinuated there was a hyphen anyways, getting back on track, Peter decided that using the Spy-der he would do some smaller scares.
Maybe he should add a container for it to hold and release real spiders.
It wouldn't be anything crazy, and definitely nothing to get the little robot destroyed, Peter was rather happy with the robot, and he decided that possibly later on he could add an ai to it, whether it be one he programs or just Karen.
His time in the lab passed quicker than he would've liked, even if he had made a good amount of progress when it came to the robot, all he had left was to program a few more things, finish the metal plating, and then figure out the paint design he wanted.
It was long decided he would keep it in his red and blue color scheme, however when it came to how to actually design with the colors, Peter was blanking.
Shaking away the thoughts of paint and robots, Peter went up to the common floor and during dinner observed the people he knew had figured out his fake spiderness.
Bucky was giving zero signs, which was great, Clint on the other hand said an occasional thing or two about spiders and watching as Bruce tensed up.
Natasha was glancing around, looking at Peter, Clint, and then Tony, repeating that pattern every so often.
Peter was pretty sure Tony didn't think he was faking the spider instincts, but probably knew something was off and that Clint was in on it.
The downside of teaming up with the tower's AI, was the fact that she would tell Tony of any injuries he got, or lack thereof when it came to the supposed exploding arrow.
Deciding to stop analyzing his friends, he enjoyed the food that Tony had roped Pepper into making.
Once the meal was over though, Peter was quick to nudge Clint a little bit while walking past before heading to the elevator, intending to go to a floor where no one would hear the conversation about scaring people.
Right before the door of the elevator closed, he made eye contact with Natasha and decided to show his fangs, then immediately realizing it now could seem like he was going to kill Clint and probably web up the body.
Although that did make him think of tricking the avengers into thinking he was killing off team members.
Natasha hopefully wouldn't think that though, especially because Peter could tell she knew about the joke.
Once out of the elevator, Peter turned to Clint, “before I start explaining plan part two, we gotta wait”
“Why would we wait?” Clint had a confused expression, tone in his voice reflecting that.
Shrugging, Peter casually walked up the wall and sat on the ceiling, listening to the elevator ominously getting closer to the floor they were on.
Clint leaned against the wall, “so you get to sit down and relax, thanks” clearly the archer had never heard of sitting on the damned floor.
Peter gave him a look that just said ‘really’ before shooting a web at Clint and tugging him up to the ceiling before webbing him on it, so he was basically laying down on the ceiling.
“Wow.” Clint said sarcastically “that's so helpful.”
“I know!” Peter just grinned, slightly lowering with a web to see Clint on the ceiling, “So comfy, right?”
Just then, the elevator doors opened, and Peter crawled back onto the ceiling, blinking at the empty elevator, tilting his head.
“Is the elevator broken or something?” Clint suggested, seeing the confused spider and the empty elevator.
Peter narrowed his eyes, moving slowly towards the elevator, being as quiet as he could while listening to the room around him.
Clint's heartbeat was normal paced along with his breathing, it was easy to pinpoint his location even if Peter's eyes were closed.
There was the slightest movement in a far corner of the dark room, and as Peter immediately looked that way, he could see a desk that didn't quite touch any walls, something that would be easy to hide behind with quick movements.
So Peter stalked towards the desk, less skilled in silence compared to Natasha, but he still had to make an attempt, for the fun of it.
Peter creeped along, taking a step onto the desk before peering over the side of it, only to jump a few feet in the area at the sound of Clint falling to the ground with a thud.
“Ow. Thanks for that, Nat.” Clint sounded annoyed, and when Peter turned both himself and the man were glaring at Natasha.
Natasha simply shrugged, “had to get you down somehow.” She looked towards Peter, “also I don't doubt you'd try to scare me like you've done to everyone.”
“I haven't scared Clint,” Peter started mumbling, “probably cause he wasn't scared of my spider side to begin with”
“I was more paranoid when you attempted to scare me. You could've been some kind of threat, so I shot you.” Natasha explained, looking bored but slightly frustrated.
Throwing his arms out, Peter huffed, “well it was still technically me scaring you!” He went on to cross his arms, “anyways you both are the lucky ones who get to be consulted with my plan!”
“Another plan to scare people?” Clint's eyes widened a bit with a short chuckle, “I thought you'd be over with that, don't four people except for you know by now?”
“Three. I think.” Peter still wasn't sure if Tony knew or not, “Bucky is on our side, well… our side if you guys are still up for the scaring.”
“I'm up for it.” Natasha said almost immediately, she was most definitely enjoying the scares now that she knew.
Peter grinned as Clint just sighed and nodded, deciding that now was time to explain the part of the plan they probably wouldn't agree with, “also I want to make it seem more real. So uh, arrows and bullets!”
“What!-” and “No.” Were said at the exact same time, Clint and Natasha saying them both respectively.
“Listen I get that you guys don't want to injure me, but I heal quickly anyways!” Peter lifted his shirt slightly, showing the slightly pink skin where he had been shot, Peter knew that soon there wouldn't even be a noticeable mark there.
Natasha hummed a bit, looking at the spot before Peter lowered his shirt again.
Continuing his attempt at convincing the two people in front of him, Peter started speaking again “I just want to scare Tony some more, along with making the others more convinced that there's real danger!”
“I'm not gonna shoot you with an arrow.” Clint pinched the bridge of his nose, before muttering under his breath, “More reckless than my kids”
“As long as you go to the medbay instead of your room.” Natasha agreed, which had Clint give her an incredulous look.
Peter grinned, “thanks Natasha!” He was glad to have at least one person on his side willing to injure him.
“No, no, Nat you aren't going to shoot Peter.” Clint turned towards his friend, “Super healing doesn't matter, he'd still feel the pain!”
“Clint c'mon, I have felt worse than a gunshot wound! I mean seriously, one of my vigilante buddies has accidentally shot me atleast five times!” Peter tried to reason.
That got worried looks from both adults in the room, Clint decided to speak, looking defeated, “alright fine, but as long as you listen to what Natasha said. Also Nat don't shoot him in a place that could hurt him too badly.” Clint ran a hand down his face in defeat “I will shoot an arrow or two, you dodge those, but my third arrow will be a fake exploding one and you can decide if you want to get hit by that.”
Peter grinned once again, “People are going to be absolutely terrified.”
“I think Tony might try to chuck me out a window like he almost did to Clint last time,” Natasha slightly chuckled.
Peter blinked, “he actually tried to throw you out the window?” He tried not to laugh when Clint nodded slightly, “I thought that was just an empty threat!”
“Not so empty after all” Natasha smirked a bit, looking at Clint, “he had to convince Tony that the arrow must've been a dud.”
At that point Peter was laughing, “well after this scare I'll tell him not to attempt murder. Clint you make the fake arrow sometime soon, I'm gonna get back to work on part of my plan!”
“Alright, I'll do it tomorrow” Clint and Natasha followed him into the elevator.
The ride up was filled with jokes about Clint almost being thrown through a window.
Once he was back in the lab, Peter didn't sleep for a few hours more, only heading to his room when Friday reminded him of the time, even if winter break had just begun so it wasn't like he needed the sleep for school.
He did need sleep for Spider-Manning though, something that Friday reminded him of.
So with a final thought of ‘Tony is a bit too overprotective’ Peter fell asleep.
As the morning sun rose, Peter found himself waking up early even if there wasn't any reason for him to.
Getting out of bed he sighed and ran a hand down his face, leaving his room and going to the kitchen, getting a cup of coffee before crawling up the wall and making a small hammock, being used to the high up spot whilst he sipped the hot coffee.
It would be easy to finish the robot that day, maybe with a bit of bugs but he could scare people quickly, lowering the risks of someone accidentally saying something about his joking.
Now, sure, Peter knew it was unlikely they'd say anything, but then possibility was still there.
So tonight would clearly be the best time…
Until he sat there and heard Tony walking in a voice on the phone able to be heard by his enhanced senses.
“Listen, I'm just as unhappy as you are, Stark.” The voice made Peter grin and kick his feet a little, Ant-Man, the other hero who understood the importance of the hyphen.
Tony sighed, “As long as it's only a few days, there's already a lot going on at the tower.” That meant Scott was staying there. He was someone who hadn't been around much.
Along with someone who could be scared, a spider hunting an ant, one giant web and everything would work out!
Or just an attack with a fake instincts takeover, then he'd blame it on Scott's… ant-ness?
It wasn't exactly the best excuse, the man didn't actually have any powers, just a suit, but Peter had seen the man and he just… smelled like ants.
Peter was a little weirded out himself that he knew what ants smelled like, but it had been a background smell similar to dirt, water, rocks, other bugs, and all the other common things.
Tuning back into what was going around him, he saw Tony pouring himself a coffee, rubbing his eyes.
“So Scott's gonna stay at the tower?” Peter asked, tilting his head, grinning when Tony jumped a little and looked towards him.
“Jeez kid!” Tony grumbled, “I need to attach a bell to you or something.”
Peter narrowed his eyes, “if you do that I will drag a bell tower bell in here and ring it insistently.” The thought of having a loud and ringing bell on him would be sensory hell, not to mention he likes sneaking up on villains before surprising them with some quip, “I'll have earplugs, of course.”
Tony blinked a few times, taking a long sip of coffee, “okay I got that” he turned and muttered beneath his breath “scary kid.”
“Thanks, I try!” Peter finished off his coffee, “anyways I'm heading for my lab, if you need anything come find me!”
He filled his cup once again before heading to the lab, a little bit focused on getting things ready for what he hoped would be the best scare, also likely his last biggest one for a while.
Unless he got a good chance with new ideas, however that would be unlikely.
The last few things he needed to do for the robot were quick and easy, so after a couple of hours, Peter was ready for bug testing.
Setting up his lab in a way that if anything went wrong, nothing would blow up, he started setting up some webs, knowing that it would be important for the robot to know how to recognize and move around and on webs.
To connect to the robot he had hooked up to its own ai system along with Karen's, so it can process the environment while also having a connection to his suit.
So once Peter had the suit on, he powered on the robot, its eyes lit up a white color, he had made sure to add in multicolored lights, so he changed them to red.
Continuing to test the basic things, he noticed some features he would have to fix and polish, including an annoying screech of one of the front legs.
Once he got to the more important things, including actually moving around, webs, and more, things went a little bit wrong.
So with a sigh, Peter started to fix the bugs, running more test runs and smiling as things worked out.
Peter knew that sometimes prototypes would just straight up explode, especially when involving things like web fluid because if it blocks even one mechanic things can go disastrously.
The fact that this worked out so smoothly so quickly made him question what would go wrong later, Parker luck never let things work out for long.
Spinning in his chair, he tested the robot's webbing and balance mechanics, smiling as it walked perfectly on the thin lines of webs around the room.
Peter noticed a bit of lag between jumps, so he worked on that, including a few more joints in the legs to make the jumps smoother and have easier landings.
By the time he tested those mechanics, the music he was listening to was stopped and Friday's voice rang out through the room, “Peter you should stop working on your lab now”
“What? Why?” He looked up towards the ceiling, eyes narrowed in confusion.
“It just struck three in the morning.” Friday responded, and it caused Peter to wince a little, not even realizing the time.
Even if he didn't sleep much, Peter would usually be back in time for at least an hour most nights, especially when he knew for things to go perfectly with his plan he would need sleep.
“Thanks, Fri” his stomach growled, and while he certainly ate snacks during his time in the lab, he needed more for his metabolism, “I'll get food first though”
Luckily enough for him, Friday was programmed not to stop people staying up late in the lab because multiple people did it a lot.
And that was even with the baby monitor protocol, which may have been slightly changed by Peter when he decided it was a bit much, but no one needed to know that.
Setting the robot down, he went out to the kitchen, rummaging through cabinets in the dark, grabbing out a box of specialized granola bars for Steve.
After many complaints about them tasting like cardboard, mostly from Peter leaving sticky notes on the box saying as such, there were a variety of flavors made.
He grabbed one labeled s'mores and ate it in a few bites, putting back the box and throwing away the wrapper.
Then he heard the noise of footsteps coming towards him, so he flipped up onto the ceiling, only pausing once he recognized Bucky's walking pattern.
Peter went right back to the floor and flicked on the lights, blinking to get used to the change, “so I decided to add onto my plan a little!”
“Okay?” Bucky said, walking past Peter to grab a granola bar, “what'd you add?”
“Injuries.” Peter said it with a large grin.
Bucky simply raised an eyebrow, it seemed like he wanted Peter to elaborate.
“Basically, as a way to make it more convincing, I get injured from people trying to stop me and my spidery rampage. Including people who know I'm faking”
The response Peter got was one that was a little unexpected, “that would definitely make it more realistic.”
“So you're on board?” Peter grinned, glad someone agreed easily.
With a nod, Bucky responded, “I doubt anyone else aside from maybe Bruce will actually be trying to hurt you, so might as well act a bit irrationally arachnophobic.”
“Thanks, you won't regret it!” Peter gave two thumbs up before leaving the kitchen, heading to his room and to sleep.
The next few days made Peter more excited for when everyone would be there and scared, especially when Sam showed up to the tower, flying in and saying it was time for him to take a short break.
Peter knew the break wouldn't be much of a break, and as the next day arrived along with Scott, he was trying his best not to be constantly grinning.
He had tested the Spy-der drone out in the wild, using it for a few of the more serious fights and for scouting out areas.
It worked out perfectly, and he was glad that his little robot would be used for more than just scaring, which he had intended originally and then added in some of the scarier and realistic features.
He was glad to hear that no one was mentioning to Scott or Sam that Peter was a terrifying menace, but he could tell the two were confused by the scared looks Bruce gave him.
The reason no one was mentioning it was likely because it had been a few days since the last scare, and also Peter had always done a sad and guilty look whenever someone mentioned it.
As the hours got later, he grabbed the little robot, it was already powered on and he pat it on the head as it chirped.
Peter set it in a shadowy corner and told it to stay there, smiling as it tapped its feet a little and sat there.
He made sure no one had seen him place it there, and as he waved to everyone, he decided to mention a fact he needed people to be aware of, “see you guys in the morning when my door's unlocked!”
“Wait, why would your door be locked?” Sam questioned, but Peter simply pretended to not hear and closed his door, grinning at the click from the outside.
Continuing to listen in, Clint responded to the question Sam had, “Peter is locked in his room at night, he isn't allowed to get out.”
“You lock him in his room?” Sam sounded confused and concerned, “what if there's an emergency?”
“Peter will be fine,” Clint dismissed, “he's better in there.”
He heard footsteps walking away, recognizing it as Clint leaving.
“This sounds like a serious safety hazard!” Sam tried to say before the archer left.
At that point he stopped listening, and grabbed his suit, pulling it on to be prepared and also to switch out his web cartridges so they'd be full.
He imagined a lot of webs would be fired, especially if weapons would be used tonight, he'd need to be fully prepared for dodging, creating strings, and webbing people down.
This needed to be realistic and serious.
Wasting some time on his phone, and making sure Friday knew to record the whole thing, and to act like he was an actual threat.
Once things got late enough, sometime past one, he started to command his little Spy-der robot to create the webbing he would jump across.
After that was done, the robot scuttled into a corner, giving Peter a good view of the hallway.
“Friday, could you say that I'm starting to try to escape my room? Make it a medium level threat message.” Peter was smiling as he said it.
The response was delayed, “the alarm has been sent, it woke up Tony, Clint, Natasha, Steve, and Sam.”
Peter grinned, “thanks! You'll know when to change it to a high level threat warning!”
“Of course, Peter”
Chuckling quietly to himself, Peter set his lenses to red and spread his spider legs out, metal clinking against the ground when it hit it.
Watching from the Spy-der bot camera, he could see Steve walking into the hallway followed by Clint, Steve had his shield and Clint had his bow, only moments later Sam joined them, looking more confused than anything, suit on in preparation, but Peter knew he wouldn't be prepared.
Looking towards his door, Peter stepped back with a deep breath, “Friday flicker the hallway lights and turn them off when appropriate”
He saw the flicking from the robot, and Peter grinned before charging at his door, slamming through it with ease, landing with his spider legs and one arm.
Red eyes staring at the three avengers in the hallway, the figure of the terrifying spider being illuminated whenever the lights flickered immediately caused them to step back.
“Holy shit, this is why you locked him in?!” Sam turned towards Steve and Clint, eyes wide.
Clint nodded tightly, “clearly it didn't work.”
Peter jumped into the air and across webs, legs moving in the most spider-like way possible as he moved swiftly for the three.
That's when the lighting turned red and Friday spoke, “threat identified.” there was an alarm that made Peter jump just enough not to be noticed.
Hissing as his spider legs spread out and he stood on a web looking down at the people in the hallway, Peter leaped down, the three avengers dodging in different ways, Clint shot an arrow past Peter's cheek, barely missing.
Being able to hear people scrambling to rush to this floor was something that made him grin, eyes glowing a brighter red, matching the flickering red lights as the alarm disappeared.
Head turned towards Clint, he moved forward, making a low clicking sound in the back of his throat, matching each flicker in the lights.
Once he went silent, everything was bathed in darkness, so he started the true fight, shooting a web at Clint and turned towards Sam, pouncing forward.
There was a split second dodge from Sam, wings suddenly spreading outwards as the jetpack on the back of the wings sent him backwards.
Peter only took a moment to recover, hissing and moving slowly forward to the superhero.
“What the hell is happening?!” Sam questioned, trying to get into the air as Peter jumped at him again, only succeeding in getting his wings stuck in webbing.
As the elevator dinged and it revealed the rest of the heroes, Peter's lenses stopped glowing and he was essentially invisible in the darkness.
Bucky stepped out first, followed by Scott, Who seemed more prepared for an actual enemy instead of an instinctual spider Peter.
Sam got his wings free, landing softly on the ground, “can someone please explain why Spidey is trying to kill us?”
“It's winter” Clint responded, cutting away at some of the webs trapping him as the lights started flickering red once again.
The response really made this seem like something that happened every single winter, almost like a tradition.
Peter jumped up and to a web, strumming some of the surrounding webs around him, notes being the signal for his Spy-der drone to crawl from its corner and join him in the webbing.
Bruce turned towards the elevator, immediately regretting his decision to be there, “tell me there isn't a giant fucking spider next to him right now?!”
“There isn't a giant fucking spider next to him right now.” Natasha responded in a flat but amused voice, “something I'm gonna shoot.”
That kinda startled Peter, realizing he hadn’t explained he didn't want his spider robo-buddy to die.
Natasha's gun clicked and Peter's spider sense buzzed with an actual instinct of protecting what was his.
As the gunshot ran out, Peter leaped forward, bullet lodging itself in his arm, something that he shrugged off as he tackled Natasha to the ground, legs spreading out dangerously, sharp points being prominent in the flashing lighting.
“Sorry Pete,” Peter didn't get to register the words before a shield made contact with his side and he was hit off of Natasha, mechanical spider legs making a grating sound as they were pressed against the floor.
Tony stood in front of Peter, “guys this should be more of a capture mission than beating up Peter!” obviously being an idiot to protect the thing attacking them.
Bruce clearly wasn't listening as glass clinked together whilst he grabbed his weapons, “If he's attacking us we need to make sure he doesn't kill us.”
Peter stood, legs against the ground as he was behind Tony, one arm out while building suspense as lights showed the scene before the others.
“Stark-” Scott was only able to say that before Peter shot a web straight at the man's back and jumped to the roof, sticking the other side to the roof.
Tony yelped and immediately shot the web with a repulsor, almost dropping on the ground before his feet were covered by his suit and he gained balance with his repulsors.
Peter creeped along a web, trying to convey annoyance with how he was moving along with his glowing red eyes being narrowed.
Sam jumped as Bruce threw a glass at Peter, successful in hitting his chest and the glass shattered.
“I'm lost on what's going on” Scott looked around, “why does it seem like this is a normal occurrence for you all?”
“It's happened a few times before.” Bucky responded, “he will seriously try to kill you.”
The Spy-der bot was creating more webs for Peter to leap across in all of the chaos.
Utilizing some of the newer web lines, Peter moved towards the group of people, and as they spread apart quickly, he decided on who to attack.
An arrow flew past him once again, and Clint said “I'm gonna have to use an exploding arrow again.”
“No, no way birdie!” Tony sent a glare towards Clint, “We need to capture him. Shoot one of those net arrows, then Steve and Bucky you guys drag Peter to a room and we lock him in there.”
“He broke down the door to his room.” Steve argued against the plan, “I think we need to knock him out.”
Peter hissed, reminding them of his presence, and hopefully also showing his displeasure at the plan of getting knocked out.
“Even Peter disagrees with you on that one!” Tony held an arm out to motion towards the mentioned spider.
Clint groaned, “fuck it I'm shooting an exploding arrow.” The archer drew his bow as many no's were shouted, clearly the majority thought hurting Peter that badly wasn't a good idea.
The arrow hit his leg, aimed to a spot that wouldn't be too bad, and then came the parker luck as the arrow had a light that blinked twice.
In the moment before the explosion, Clint's eyes widened “fuck.” Was the last word before the arrow exploded in an array of orange and red.
Peter was knocked off his web, and he hit the floor painfully as spots danced in his vision, and he grit his teeth with the thought of ‘that wasn't a fake one.’
“Clint what the hell!” Tony shouted as he came up to Peter, trying to assess the injuries.
Clint took a step back, looking towards Natasha for guidance, and Natasha just stared at Peter, blinking only after a few seconds and she moved forward slowly.
Scott just glanced around, muttering “where'd that robot spider go?”
Said spider bot was hiding in a corner.
Peter let himself process the pain before deciding whether it was worth it to continue or not, pain definitely making him think it would be better not to.
However he'd been in way worse explosions.
So with the unsuspecting people around him, he launched himself towards Scott, successfully grabbing onto the man before he shrunk into tiny size.
Narrowing his eyes, he hit his spider legs together and the Spy-der robot revealed itself again, jumping at the shrunk man.
Scott was able to dodge out of the way and grow again, “guess that's where the bot was!”
In the few seconds that took, Bruce was throwing a glass at him, Clint was keeping himself away from the fight, and Sam was in a position to fly into Peter in case the spider tried anything.
Using a little trick a lawyer taught him, Peter caught the glass while not even looking in the direction.
“What the actual fuck!” Bruce took deep breaths, staring at the spider who creepily turned his head almost all the way around to stare at the man.
The lights stopped flickering, changing to a dim red as Peter suddenly ran for Bruce, throwing the glass against the ground as he did.
Sam jumped forward and rammed into Peter, knocking him into a wall before stepping back.
Clicking his teeth together as he stood, the spider moved forward, eyeing where Scott was fighting against the Spy-der bot, utilizing the shrinking ability his suit possessed because it seemed the man had gotten bit once and didn't want to repeat it.
Tony once again tried to stop people from hurting Peter as he pulled Sam away, “Clint get a net arrow already!”
“Yeah yeah!” Clint drew his bow and an arrow flew through the air.
It spread out in a net before it hit him and Peter used the spider legs to slice through it with ease.
Peter shoved Tony to the side as he ran for Bruce, seeing the man with another glass in his hands.
Right before Peter got too close, Bruce grew a bit larger and more green with a roar.
Stopping himself in his tracks, Peter looked back in the direction he came from, and Natasha was already coming over swiftly to try and calm Bruce down, sending Peter an angry look.
But Peter shot a web at Natasha's feet and bounced forward, making a clicking sound.
Hulk looked down at him, anger changing to surprise, “bug boy?”
Peter let his spider legs shake, trying to express happiness with a few taps of his actual feet.
“Hulk is confused about this red lighting.” Hulk growled, looking around, fists curling up in anger at the weird situation.
Tilting his head, Peter jumped onto the hulk's shoulder and sat down, patting him on the back a few times.
Most of the avengers were looking at the scene in curiosity and confusion, minus Scott who was still battling the robot, and managing to lose against the small thing.
Hulk looked at him, calming a little bit, and Peter pulled his mask up for a few moments to give him a smile.
Natasha cut her way out of the webs at this point, slowly approaching, prepared to help Bruce become the less green version of himself.
But Peter knew she wouldn't have to as he flipped away and Bruce was back in control, thoroughly confused.
Being friends with the big green guy was a very neat thing, he could calm him down much like Natasha could just in a different way.
Peter let that scene play out on its own as he took this chance to attack Scott again, teaming up with his robo-spider friend.
With everyone still a bit shocked at the surprisingly nice moment that just happened, Scott was webbed up right before he could go small, and Peter raised metal spider legs, preparing to hit Scott with what would technically be a killing blow.
Bucky shoved him away though, “Steve a little help?” He pulled Peter's metal spider legs behind his back while holding a knee on Peter's back, trying to mostly incapacitate him.
Steve ran over, and grabbed Peter's actual arms, “should we knock him out?”
The thought of that made Peter hiss and fling Bucky off of him before hitting Steve with the sides of the metal spider legs, standing swiftly and only faltering as his leg flared up with pain from the burns.
Natasha seemed to be over with Bruce, so the people who could actually injure him willingly were limited.
Scott was trying to pull himself out of the webs, and Sam was heading to help, so Peter ran at the falcon, who's wings spread.
Exactly what Peter wanted.
Shooting webs to stop some of the mechanics of the wings, Peter stalked forward while the lights started to flicker again.
“Oh shit, someone knock him out already!” Sam stumbled back, jumping as he hit the wall.
Tony, ever so adamant on not letting Peter get knocked out, grabbed Steve's arm slightly to stop the man from approaching with his shield, “We can't just injure him.”
“He's already injured, Stark!” Scott huffed, before yelping as the Spy-der bot crawled on top of him, red glowing eyes matching Peter's.
Steve pulled away from Tony and hit Peter with the shield, knocking the spider away from Sam.
Deciding that getting knocked out wouldn't be worth it, Peter rolled backwards into a landing and jumped into the maze of webs, strumming one of the webs to call for the Spy-der drone to come to him.
Once the robot was safely on his head, he looked around at the confused, worried, and thoroughly terrified avengers.
Twisting his limbs in unnatural ways he crawled along the webs back into his room, hissing before climbing through his doorway and up above his bed.
When no one followed, he dropped down softly onto the mattress and let his spider legs retract before pulling the mask of his suit off.
The spider robot curled up on his chest similar to a cat, Peter smiled at the little guy before blinking his eyes closed.
It felt like he got a minute of rest before Tony was shaking him awake, “Peter?”
He groaned and flipped away from where Tony was, pulling the spider robot towards him a bit more instinctively.
“Peter you need to go to the med bay” Tony insisted, grabbing Peter much like the kid was an upset cat.
Considering Peter just hissed but did nothing to stop him certainly made him seem like a cat.
The Spy-der robot powered back on and started following, making a little chirping sound every so often.
Some of the avengers were gone from the living room, but Bucky, Steve, and Clint were all talking and Clint seemed extremely worried about the fact he had shot Peter with an actual arrow.
Along with the broken window and bandages on Clint, Peter realized he forgot to tell Tony not to throw Clint out a window.
Deciding to focus on a different thing, he turned his attention to the other two avengers in the room, so Peter sent a fanged smile at Sam and Scott, who looked at him in fear.
Once in the elevator, Peter stopped making Tony carry him and just sat on the ground, “You should've let me sleep”
“You got hit with an exploding arrow.” Tony pinched the bridge of his nose, “speaking of which Clint is not allowed to fight you anymore.”
“Hey, Clint just mixed up what arrow to use!” Peter started to register the pain, making him wake up a bit faster, “so don't blame him.”
Tony raised an eyebrow, “So more than just the other spider knew you weren't really controlled by instincts?”
Peter tensed up, not having expected to get ratted out by Natasha of all people.
“Oh yeah, you're grounded.” Tony said right as the elevator doors opened again.
Peter almost decided to web Tony to the wall and get out of being grounded for a bit longer, but instead sighed, “it was worth it.”
Tony seemed at least a little amused before Peter got his wounds treated.
By the time Peter was back in his room it was getting light out, but that didn't stop him from passing out on his bed with a mechanical spider next to him.
It was definitely worth it to scare the avengers.
Especially when the next day he got to flash his fangs a few times to make people jumpy.
Getting apologized to by Clint multiple times wasn't thrilling, but still worth it.
Peter found it disappointing that would be the last avengers he would get to scare with his tactics, but there were still plenty of Villains who deserved to be terrified after all the annoyance they caused.
Not to mention heroes and Vigilantes outside of the avengers.
A grin formed in his face as he spent his time grounded, planning out the ways he could scare more people, with more startling things.
Then he got actual instincts to build another web, which took up another bit of his time grounded, only aiding his excitement for more plans.
However, for now it was worth it and he was content.
Notes:
I hope you enjoyed!
And I am sorry it took some time to get out, my editor had a lot going on so they read a decent portion and I finished the editing off.
