Chapter 1: Chapter 1
Chapter Text
“This is Eddie Diaz,” Olinsky introduces him. “Straight out of the academy.”
Hank looks him up and down, shaking Eddie’s hand with a firm grip. “You army?”
“Medic, Sir.”
He gets a nod of approval. “This is Diaz,” Hank abruptly turns to the rest of the group. “Play nice.” He makes his way around the room, introducing himself to each detective. First he acquaints himself with Erin Lindsey—a short brunette with a mean handshake. Then Adam Ruzek—a tall blonde-haired man who looks a tad disheveled. Then Kevin Atwater—another big huge man with hands the size of a basketball. Next, Antonio Dawson—a short fatherlike dude. And lastly, Jay Halstead.
Jay immediately catches Eddie’s eye. There is no denying the guy is attractive as hell. Huge arms, tall, and pretty blue eyes. “Nice to meet you, man,” the man’s smile almost blinds him, “there is an extra desk across from mine.” Eddie definitely won’t be able to any work done while sitting across from that beautiful man.
A man in a gray zip-up and jeans pops his head up from the stairs.
“We’ve got a hit!”
Everyone snaps to attention at once, grabbing their gear.
“Diaz with Lindsey and Halstead!” Hank yells from the office as the group runs to the garage.
Olynsky got him up to speed on the way to the station; a string of bank robberies have been reported in the area. They’ve left three people dead in their wake. No suspects, no leads.
Eddie jumps in the back of the car as Erin takes the wheel. Jay drops into the passenger seat with a grunt. “Hope you don’t get carsick, rookie,” Jay smiles back at him. Eddie huffs, “Not a bit.” He wasn’t kidding about the driving though, Eddie feels as if he is in a washing machine. Jay radios dispatch to find out more information. Four perpetrators with fifteen hostages. Two injured.
The three of them are the first ones on scene. The two detectives take the lead with Eddie in pursuit. By the time they get to the doors the hostages are fleeing the scene. The group pushes through the crowd and find themselves inside an empty bank lobby. Eddie grips the familiar handle of his gun. A loud bang comes from their left and Eddie takes off toward it. Jay follows a few steps behind him while Erin runs toward the back to cut them off.
With each stride he gets closer. The perp in front of him struggles to keep up with the other two. He stumbles a bit, tripping over himself. Before Eddie can think to do anything else, he launches himself onto the larger man. They both go tumbling down. Jay doesn’t skip a beat and speeds after the others.
Eddie grabs for the man's arm and reaches to his belt for his cuffs. He hears footsteps behind him which he assumes must be the other detectives’. Before he has the chance to look back, the cold barrel of a gun is shoved into the back of his head.
“Get up,” a gruff voice orders.
Eddie slowly raises his hands, the man grabs his arm and pulls him to his feet. The grunt on the floor stands with an angry look in his eyes, taking the chance to wind back and sock Eddie in the face. His jaw aches from the contact.
It knocks him off balance but opens up the opportunity for Eddie to hook his arm under the gunman’s thigh, using the leverage to flip him onto the ground. A bullet hole appears in the ceiling.
Eddie kicks the gun down the hallway as the other man attempts to put him in a chokehold. He turns, pushing his feet against the wall, sending the two of them crashing into the opposite wall. The man grunts, losing his grip and creating an opportunity for Eddie to break out of his hold. He then turns to deck the man in the jaw. The other robber barrels into Eddie’s chest, knocking him to the ground. The wind is knocked from his lungs.
They roll around for a few seconds until a gunshot rings out. He turns towards the sound. The man with whom Eddie’s fist just collided with falls to the ground with a gun, limp in his hand. Voight stands at the other end of the hallway with his own smoking gun. The man under Eddie puts his hands up. Eddie quickly turns him and slaps cuffs across his wrists.
Voight nods in approval as he walks over to the young detective. “Good work, kid. Try and throw the gun a little farther next time.” Eddie blushes. The sergeant helps him up and slaps him on the back. “Get the other guys?” Eddie questions, feeling a bit like a little kid whose father just told him he is proud of him. Hank smiles.
Chapter 2: Chapter 2
Chapter Text
The next few weeks go by quickly, Eddie is learning the ropes and seems to make a few friends along the way. Jay especially.
Now Eddie isn’t like gay or anything but the man is hot. You can do that, right? Think a man is hot while simultaneously not being gay? In his twenty twenty-two years of life, he certainly would have noticed if he was gay. He has got to be straight.
Erin and him have also grown closer. She gives him big sisterly advice sometimes; like telling him to put his phone on airplane mode when his parents call. He has helped her out a bit too, he showed her how to line dance. Jay refused to try but has been calling him “Texas” ever since. Kevin gave it a try but ended up tripping over his own two feet.
Today they made a big drug bust which apparently warrants a trip to a bar named “Molly’s” which Voight is not welcome at. This is how Eddie finds himself being ordered drink after drink by a firefighter.
“Severide, don’t corrupt him too much,” Erin jokes from across the bar. Severide has been telling Eddie a series of stories that he has yet to comprehend. He says something about a doctor that sparks Eddie’s interest.
“Jay!” Eddie turns to the taller detective, “Isn’t your brother a doctor?”
Jay saunters over, putting a hand on Eddie’s back. Eddie leans into the touch. “Yeah, he is, why do you ask?”
Eddie turns toward Severide for the answer who gives him an unimpressed look. “I was just telling him about some back problems, man.” Jay shrugs. Something about the way he is standing tells Eddie that he isn’t the only one who has had a few too many. Jay soon forgets what he was doing there and wanders off, Eddie misses the contact. He wanders around the bar with little direction. Before he knows it he is talking to another firefighter. This one he doesn’t recognize though. The guy is handsome, and the alcohol has somehow made Eddie forget he is straight.
“I’ve gotta say, man, usually cops aren’t so pretty,” The guy isn’t much taller than Eddie but somehow looks as is he is twice as large. He is blonde with a striking mustache.
“Ya uh, I’d say firefighters aren’t hot but you guys run into burning buildings.”
Eddie can do a lot of things. He is a very skilled man some would say. But under no circumstances can he flirt.
The man laughs, “You're cute.” Eddie’s cheeks go red. He has no idea how to respond. The man steps closer into his space. Eddie’s breath hitches a bit. “I could rock your world, Diaz-”
He doesn’t have time to say much more before a firm hand snakes its way around Eddie’s waist. His body tenses as his back is pressed against a man’s chest.
He looks up. Jay stares down the other man. “Hey Texas,” he whispers into Eddie’s ear. Eddie leans into the touch, the firefighter is completely forgotten. “Take the next guy, Peters,” Jay leads Eddie toward the door.
“I was having fun,” Eddie tells him. Jay pays him no mind as he calls for an Uber. Eddie stumbles a bit when Jay lets him go, looping his fingers through Eddie’s belt to pull him out the door. Eddie feels gladly follows.
The Uber is there in no time. Jay hasn’t lost his hold and he pulls Eddie in after him. The Uber is a nice lady. She offers them snacks. Eddie can barely focus on her words, though. Jay has picked up one of Eddie’s legs and set it on his thigh. It forces Eddie to grip Jay’s bicep for balance. Jay’s grip firmly lies on the inside of Eddie’s thigh, a little too far up to be deemed appropriate. His thumb massages circles into the tissue, making Eddie see stars. Eddie’s head lies on Jay’s shoulder as he tries to stifle anything that could make the driver look back.
When Jay shifts his grip even farther up, Eddie must bite down on the man's shoulder to keep silent. “Good boy,” Jay whispers so only the two can hear. A shiver runs down his spine.
The car finally stops and Eddie is again pulled out by the belt and manhandled into the elevator to Jay’s apartment. The elevator door closes and Jay wastes no time as he crowds Eddie against the wall. The cool metal burns his skin. A thigh is pressed between his legs, making him groan. Jay smiles at the reaction.
“Damn, your easy.” His thigh presses harder.
Eddie bites his lip as Jay raises his eyebrows. “Not so loud anymore?”
Jay easily lifts him with just his leg, then hooks an arm under one of Eddie’s thighs. “I’m not going to last,” Eddie chokes out, making Jay smile, “Oh yes you will.”
