Work Text:
Bite was not accustomed to feeling pain in this manner, he was an exorian, he knew what pain felt like, physical pain hardly bothered him anymore. This was different, this was cold seeping pain that cut into him more than any wound ever had in his life.
The absence of Gyn, the absence of His leviathan, his first real friend, his companion. The loss he was suddenly forced to cope with, it was something he would never have thought about before.
He laid curled on Gyn’s bed, the pillow clutched to his chest, dried tears covering his cheeks. The scent was comforting, it was fading, every day the bed feeling that much too large, that was much too cold.
As he lay there he stared at the trident that he had left leaned against the wall, the last gift that Gyn had left him, leaving him with his love. The emotion that he didn’t quite understand, but wanted to, wanted to learn and understand and grow with Gyn at his side.
A sudden noise would break him out of his thoughts, the sound of a door opening somewhere in the castle. Bite got up and went to investigate grabbing the trident on his way out of the bedroom.
He crept along the hallway with the trident gripped tightly in his hands looking for the source of the noise, going towards the main hall of the castle.
When he arrived at the main hall he froze the trident falling from his fingers, a gasp being torn from his lips.
There in the main hall of the castle, Gyn stood motionless, his usually blue eyes a haunting violet color. His gaze lifted to Bite before he turned and walked out of the castle.
Bite ran after him, tripping over his own feet, trying to keep up with Gyn as he went towards the nether portal. He was faster than Bite, but never quite out of sight. Had the younger mer been more coherent, less emotional, he might have realized that this was wrong, that this was too easy, that Gyn wouldn’t lead him through the world like this. But all Bite could focus on was the fact that Gyn was just out of reach, he needed to catch him.
It wasn’t until the two of them arrived at the stronghold, Gyn stopping in front of the portal, that he realized the mistake he had made.
“Gyn? What the hell is going on?” Bite took a hesitant step towards him.
Gyn grabbed his hand and dragged him through the portal without a single word spoken.
The swirling purple and feeling of being transported to the end made him nauseous, but the sight that greeted him outside of the portal was worse, so much worse.
Gyn stood in between Zipher and Cella, Cella’s arm around him, he was quiet, his eyes were dead.
“Hi there Bite! So wonderful of you to join us!” Cella smiled at the Exorian. “Gyn aren’t you happy to see him?”
“Yes, your highness.”
“What the hell did you do to him?” Bite growled, taking out his sword.
“Ah ah ah~ I wouldn’t do that, he’s perfectly fine, aren’t you Gyn?” Cella smiled up at the Leviathan.
“I am wonderful, Your highness.” He looked down at It his expression not changing.
“Gyn? Get away from them, let me help you!” Bite held his sword tighter.
“Now now…there’s no reason for that now Bite.” Cella looked to Gyn. “Gyn take out your sword.”
Gyn took out he sword without a word.
“Put it to your throat.”
He did as he was told, pressing the blade to his own throat.
“Wait!” Bite stepped forward, his hand outstretched.
“Don’t move Bite, you do see what situation you’re in don’t you? We’re all friends here, you, me Gyn, and Zipher! Isn’t that right?”
Zipher laughed at the look on Bite’s face. “Yeah~ we’re friends!”
“You two are not our friends. Gyn doesn’t even like you Dot.” Bite was still holding his sword but didn’t come any closer.
“Oh? Why don’t we ask him? Gyn we’re friends right?”
“Yes, your highness.” Gyn replied, his voice flat, it was almost as if he were just a puppet.
The sword that could very well end Gyn’s life being pressed so close to his throat kept Bite still, his teeth grinding together as he grit them.
“Gyn you can put the sword away as soon as Bite drops his okay?” Cella touched Gyn’s shoulder again.
Bite growled at them.
“Off the side of the island if you’d please.”
Bite glared for a moment before he went to the side of the island and dropped his sword, Gyn’s safety more important to him in this moment than any piece of metal ever could be.
“Good!” Cella grinned. “Go ahead and put away your sword now Gyn.”
Gyn put away the sword without a word going back to standing like a statue between the two.
“Now~ why don’t we talk about why I had Gyn bring you here hmm?” Cella clapped his hands. “I want this place to be a kingdom! So I need citizens! And who better than my dear friend, I was so worried that you’d died Bite! But then Gyn was so kind as to tell me that you were alive and well…and as you can see.” They leaned up to wrap an arm around his shoulders. “I’ve made him perfect! He won’t judge you anymore! You don’t have to pretend to be any different from Zipher and I!”
Bite glared at it, gritting his teeth harder as he tried not to anger her before he could figure out how to get to Gyn.
“And if we tell him to, He’ll do anything you ask! You’ll get to be his friend again and do anything you like.” They hummed.
“I don’t want that! He’s not a fucking puppet! He’s a person.”
“He’s so much happier like this though! He doesn't have to feel guilt or pain or anything, he just has to listen, just has to be our friend. He’s perfect like this.” Cella moved back from Gyn. “You could be happy too Bite, you could be here with us, no pain, no stupid rules.”
“And I’ll even forgive you.” Zipher grinned at their fellow Exorian. “It’ll be just like old times.”
“I won’t…not at the cost of Gyn, not if I have to lose the person that he is. He isn’t perfect! He’s complicated, he’s a fucking idiot but thats what’s good about him. He’s selfless and Kind and he fucking loves me.” Hot tears bubbled over and slid down his cheeks.
“Aww, you’re gonna cry over him Bite? That’s so sweet.” Zipher mocked him.
Bite walked forward, the tears sliding down his face as he ignored Zipher, grabbing both of Gyn’s hands. “You fucking idiot…you…come back, come back right fucking now.” His voice cracked and broke.
Gyn didn’t respond looking at him with those soulless violet eyes, it was almost as if he had no idea who Bite was.
“Gyn…please…” He sobbed.
“If you’re going to be a little bitch about it, maybe you shouldn’t be our friend Bite…Maybe you should go back to those spineless losers you like hanging around.“ Zipher looked down at him, looking at him like he was worthless.
“No. No I’m not leaving without Gyn! You fucking…give him back!”
“I think you’re getting a bit too upset, Bite…maybe you need a timeout. Gyn, Why don’t you escort Him to the portal? He can visit again for the party! Maybe by then you’ll feel more willing to be…friendly.” Cella hummed.
Gyn grabbed Bite by the wrists and began dragging him to the portal, his grip strong and unbreakable even despite Bite’s protests. “Gyn stop it, Gyn please, you have to fight this, you can I know you can.”
But Gyn didn’t respond, didn’t even look at him before shoving the smaller mer into the portal.
Bite would come out back at home, back in that big empty bed, fresh sobs wracking his small frame as his hands dug into the empty blankets.
Back in the end, what he could not see was a single tear sliding down Gyn’s pale face.
