Buddy was a disaster. He’d been a fluffy orange kitten-sized disaster when Marcus pulled him out of a spaceship exhaust port three years ago. Now he was a fluffy orange adult-cat-sized disaster.
“What did you get into now, Buddy?” Marcus peered into the tub of spare parts. Buddy meowed pitifully, his yellow eyes wide. “Those are for scout ship engines, not cats. You’ve gotta be more careful.”
Marcus had been telling Buddy to be careful for years. It never seemed to make a difference.
“Why don’t you hang out on the table while I eat?” Carefully, Marcus put Buddy on the table, then moved his own wrenches before the damn fool cat could trip over them. “You’ve got your bed and everything.”
Buddy eyed his bed, then chirped and wandered over to the pizza box. He hopped on it with too much force, and the whole thing shot off the edge.
“Buddy!” Marcus caught both cat and pizza, narrowly managing not to dump the pizza on the floor. “Nevermind. Lap it is.”
He sat, keeping one hand on Buddy to stop the cat from rolling off his lap. Buddy was a disaster, but at least his chaos was always entertaining.
