Chapter Text
Elio:
After finishing the video call with Professor Kukui, who had given me a brief introduction to the Alola region, I smiled for the first time in a while. After going through a divorce, my mother decided to move us to Alola, a region made of large islands near the south coast of Hoenn. The pokemon there are supposed to be extremely varied in their species and types. It’s exciting, knowing I am going to be a trainer there. Me and my new Froakie, which was a present from my father. Learning about Alola brought back my childhood dream of being a pokemon trainer, and my mother fully supported it.
“Elio! Come help me with these boxes!” I heard my mom yell.
“Coming!” I tell her, swiveling around in my chair. I looked around my now barren room, which used to have pokemon posters, notebooks, and a few clothes on the ground, for the last time. “A new beginning,” I said as my hand drifted to the pokeball set on my belt. I felt it wiggle slightly, and smiled at it.
I open the door to my room and see my mom start to grab another box. It starts to slip, and I rush over.
“I got it,” I tell her.
She smiles at me, and hands me the box. She then grabs another box and follows me out the door to our house. “Thank you, sweety. How was your call with the professor?”
“It was good, he needed a photo for my Trainer Passport and asked if I already had some pokemon. He said my blonde hair would be ‘Exotic’, but other than that…” I say, carrying the box to the moving truck.
“It’s definitely different, maybe it’ll help you with getting a girlfriend,” She said with a wink. I scoff, setting my box in the truck before taking my mothers box. “You finally get to go on your own adventure, now. I know you were upset that you couldn’t go when you were ten, so this will be a good chance to make up for that.”
I nodded, before turning back to the house. “Is that all?” I ask my mom. When she nods, I smile. “Then I guess we better get going.”

“Merow!”
Tired…
“Merowr!”
Meowth…Shut up!
“Meroorwr!!”
I groan, finally relenting as I adjust to waking up. I blink a few times as I sit up, looking over at the normal type alarm clock. Meowth lets out another noise before running back to mom.
Still a bit jet lagged. My feet touch the floor, as I look over my new room. Mostly everything i’ve already unpacked, but there are a few boxes at the base of my bed. I walk over my polywhirl rug as I head for my bedroom door. I sigh, and open the door.
“Mom?” I call, slightly annoyed.
“Right here, Elio,” My mom says, leaving the side porch. “You were out like a light, weren’t you?” She said with a wave of her hand, “You ought to be full of energy by now!”
I frown. “Still a bit jetlagged, I’ll be fine. What’s up?”
“Just thinking you should get up,” She says, “Don’t want you developing bad sleep habits. Plus I thought you’d wanna go see some new Alolan pokemon right?”
“Of course!” I say, my energy returning a bit at the notion of meeting new pokemon.
“That’s what I thought,” Mom said, “I want to hurry up and meet some, too! We’re living in the Alola region now! The beautiful islands everyone wants to visit!”
Suddenly a spot of brightness catches my eye and I turn, looking out at the Alolan skyline. While it’s still a bit dark, but I could see the streaks of light before the sun comes up.
My mom smiles, as she turns as well, “The pokemon here must be pretty friendly in a place like this, right? It’s a new day, you should go out and see for yourself. I’m going to finish unpacking, so go and get to exploring okay?”
I nod, before turning back to my room. Might as well grab my hat and bag. Reentering my room, I look in the corner and spy my items. On a small coat rack, I had set my bucket hat and backpack. Even if the hat’s a bit ugly, it’s better than nothing in this heat. I grab it and set it on my sandy blonde hair before flinging the backpack onto my shoulders. I then spy the pokeball on my desk.
Froakie… I don’t really need to bring him with me to town, I think before leaving the room again.
“Good to go, Mom,” I say, walking over to her.
She turns to me and gives me a once over, before smiling. “Now you look ready for anything!”
I nod, her smile forcing one of my own. “Well, I’m off!” I say as I move around her towards the door. I hear her say a few things about tall grass and being careful before I close the door behind me.
