Chapter Text
“Kill the one in the purple bandana.”
“Show his pathetic partner that they are alone.”
“That I am their only hope.”
The words echoed through Grey’s mind as he approached Maroon, who was busy sharpening one of his many golden knives in the Weapons Room of the Airship.
He knew that this would only make White sad.
White hated them enough already.
Why make it worse?
But he had an order to fulfill.
He got close behind his target, readying his knife for impact.
(Apologies, angel.)
He swung the knife, ready to get it over with.
...
White spent their time kicking rocks out on Polus.
Black had basically abandoned them, preferring to train Grey in order to indoctrinate him more.
They couldn’t help but resent him from taking everything from them.
But at the same time, they knew this is where things were always heading.
They were just a dumb killer.
One who could be replaced when someone better came along.
Was it really fair to hate the kid because of that?
White knew there was only one solution to this dilemma.
They had to crawl back to Maroon.
They were dreading hearing him brag to him about how he “told them so,” but there was no doubt that he could drag them out of this Hell they chose for themselves.
But when they found their ex, a certain child was prepping a knive to slice them up.
...
Before the butcher knife could hit his target, Grey felt something, or rather, someone tackle him, knocking him to the ground.
He looked up as he saw himself get dragged away by a livid White, bringing them to a secluded area, that being Electrical.
They grabbed Grey’s arm, glaring daggers at him.
“What the Hell do you think you’re doing!? YOU SON OF A BITCH! And I thought you wouldn’t stoop THIS low! Fuckin’ worthless piece of sh-”
“P-Please let go of my arm... Hurts...”
White reluctantly let go with a grumble, causing Grey to clutch the grabbed arm in pain. He pulled the sleeve up, revealing a cluster of scars around his wrist and forearm.
They looked at the sight in horror. They didn’t mean to physically hurt him that badly.
“D... Did I do that!?”
Grey shook his head, somber.
“... Was it Black?”
Another head shake.
But if they didn’t, and Black didn’t...
“... Did you... Cut yourself?”
Grey didn’t say anything. His breathing got heavy, as he nodded.
White felt terrible. They might’ve been a jackass, but mocking a kid who was doing that kinda stuff? That was a new low.
“... But why? Why would you risk your life doing something so stupid?”
Both impostors (technically, one was a crewmate) knew that Grey wasn’t like the others. He wasn’t a player. He was a glorified pet. If he was killed, or died, he wouldn’t come back.
Grey sadly laughed to himself as White asked the question.
“You said it yourself, Angel. I am worthless. Nobody would care to know, and... I have to punish myself somehow.”
That only twsited the metaphorical knife in White’s chest more.
“... I’m sorry, I didn’t... I didn’t mean... Well, I... That isn’t...” Nothing they could say could make the wound they caused go away.
Grey pulled his sleeves back down, embarassed.
“It is fine. You do not need to pretend to care. Black says otherwise, and... She is always right.”
He sniffled, suppressing the urge to let himself cry.
“M-maybe that is why they took dad away. Because I do not deserve him. I am just a dumb killer, one that can be replaced when there is something better.”
“FUCK THAT!”
Startled, Grey looked at the abrasive impostor, who looked infuriated.
“You can’t say those things! Who cares what that dumb cheater says!? If she really knew what to do, she wouldn’t need us to do her dirty work!”
Grey didn’t seem convinced. “B-But you hate me. You have said as much before. And you deserve to.”
White sighed, sitting next to the kid.
“Look, I... Didn’t know. I knew Black was a jerk, and a bitch, and just... generally unpleasant. But... I wouldn’t have said these things if I knew what she was doing to you. Who she forced you to kill. How much she made you hate yourself.”
They patted the kid on the back, looking back with remorse.
“I’m was in a similar situation only a few weeks ago. If I had known the cheater was such a scumbag, I wouldn’t have stayed. But... It’s far too late for me.”
White got back up, helping Grey to his feet.
“Here. I’ll take the blame for failing this one. It’s the least I can do.”
Grey grabbed White’s hand, uncertain, but still trusting.
“... A-Alright, angel.”
...
Unfortunately, in the Cargo Bay, Black didn’t quite see it that way.
“Of course, brat. I should have known that you’d fail again. You always do.”
Her grip on Grey’s arm tightened, as tears fell from his eyes.
“Do I have to physically cut this arm off to teach you a lesson?”
White stepped in, still sweating buckets. “Leave the kid alone, jackass! It was my own fault! I got weak, and I stopped him, and-”
“YOU STAY OUT OF THIS, AMATEUR.”
Reluctantly, they backed off.
The hand around Grey’s arm continued to constrict, wringing more out water and tears.
“You know the rules well, child. You fail a task, I punish you. Now, remind me...”
Black pulled out a knife, bloodlust clear in her expression.
“When I say, ‘remove all the crewmates,’ you say...”
“... Y-Yes, Black...”
“When I say, ‘do exactly what I tell you,’ you say...”
“Y-Yes, Black...”
“And when I tell you to STOP BEING A GODDAMN DISSAPOINTMENT, you say?”
No response.
“YOU. SAY?”
Grey didn’t say anything, his voice too busy cracking from whimpering and quiet sobbing from fear.
“... If that’s the way you want to play this game, brat, maybe I can oblige you.”
The knife in her hand swung down, about to slice his arm clean off.
But at the last moment...
“WAIT WAIT WAIT- HOLD ON-!”
White pushed Grey away in a blind panic, forcing him out of Black’s grasp, taking the blow. A red, bloodied scar spread across their right eye, dripping from the gash and forcing it shut.
They yelled out in the pain, holding onto the wound with their hand and trying to stop the bleeding.
Grey looked up at White, stunned at what they did. “Y-You- You did not have to-”
They cut him off, glaring dagger into Black’s face. “Get outta here, kid. Me and the boss are gonna have an... Adult conversation.”
Grey complied, rushing off before Black could grab him again.
Black stood tall, seemingly shocked by what the angel had tried to do, but certainly not showing it.
“How interesting.”
White snapped back, infuriated. “FUCKING- ASSHOLE! Why the fuck would you do that!?”
Black chuckled to themselves darkly, not too concerned. “Blaming me, are we? You were the one who decided to get in the way of things. That one’s on you.”
The angel growled. “I don’t care about that. My eye can stay gone for fuck’s sake! WHY would you try to KILL AN INNOCENT KID!? One that’s been nothing but obedient to you for years!?”
“Innocent, hm? That’s an interesting word choice for a mass murderer. If I can’t force some discipline into him and get him to succeed at his job, what’s the point of having him?”
“You know, I used to think that maybe you had some heart. That maybe, just maybe, after you took that poor guy in after those Crewmates killed his dad-!”
Black continued to chuckle, with slightly more intensity.
“Do you still believe that lie?”
“... What lie...?”
“That Crewmates killed his dad? It’s quite comical, really. You’d think that someone would’ve caught on by now.”
“EXPLAIN.”
White stepped up to Black, his fury only rising the more this vague asshole said things that made no sense.
“Simple. It wasn’t Crewmates who did it. They may be stupid, but not nearly idiotic enough to vote one of their own with no proof or accusation.”
The glimmer on Black’s knife shined as her body tensed.
“It was me. I made the first accusation. I got him ejected eternally. Just so that I could steal the brat. He had quite the potential to be an underling. I’m sure you understand, don’t you?”
White was frozen with disbelief. They knew Black was bad, but this? At least when they killed people, it was just a part of the game and non-permanent. But Black had gotten one step above that and crossed a line.
“... You ruined a family. You stopped their chances of ever getting together. Just so that you could continue this selfish game.”
Black clapped slowly, applauding White. “Now you’re getting it. It really isn’t so bad when you say it like that-”
In a fraction of a second, White’s dagger found itself lodged in the corrupter’s throat, catching her by surprise.
They seemed even more pissed than they were before, their singular eye looking directly at Black, teeth bared. They continued to throw things at him. There was no reasoning with them.
“YOU SON OF A BITCH. Of course it makes sense! Of course I see what you’re saying! You’re just a fucking PSYCHO! SELFISH, GOOD FOR NOTHING ASSHOLE! I WILL END YOU.”
Angry, Black forced the knife out of her throat and launched at White, who just narrowly had a slice cut across their shoulder.
“If you plan on being unreasonable about this non-issue, then perhaps i don’t need you anymore.”
White tried to get one last punch in, bloodthirsty, but Black’s leg connected in a kick to their stomach, sending them flying back and tumbling out of the bay door, yelling and screaming as they plummeted.
Black caught her breath, calming herself down. She couldn’t be caught being scared. That was one more dissenter down, about eight more to go.
Plus, one blue-headed rapper she still needed to make suffer.
Black had an idea. She tapped into Grey’s head, giving a message.
“Meet me back at the Cargo Bay. I have a way you can redeem your mistake.”
...
An parasitic angel flapped it’s wings just below the bay door. Having tapped into this form before it could hit the ground, it listened to Black’s plan for Grey. And it wasn’t pretty.
It flew away, looking for a certain someone it knew could help.
“I NEED TO FIND MAROON.”
