Summary
In the 1890s, deep in the hills and hollers of Appalachia, hardship has made Cora cautious and fierce. As she navigates her changing environment, she and her kin discover a strange, disabled creature in the woods and take it hostage, unsure whether it’s a threat or a gift. The creature quickly becomes entangled in their lives, only for violence to tear Cora's family apart, sending them on an unexpected journey across the mountains. Now, the creature faces its greatest challenge: protecting the humans it has claimed as its own and finding its way back home.
