Chapter 1: You're not Stiles..?
Chapter Text
Void is known as a Nogitsune, a spirit that possesses someone when their mental/physical health is really low, making them susceptible to possession and mind control. Due to his abilities, he can also mess with people’s memories with mind control. There’s one person he likes to mess with because of how powerful he can really be, Scott. Scott is what’s known as a True Alpha, an Alpha that gets stronger through pure willpower rather than harming or getting rid of others like other Alphas or members of his own pack.
Due to Scott’s abilities, Void likes to mess with his memories to make sure Scott can never remember what he is so he can’t use it against him. Void is currently watching Scott’s house, leaning against a tree with his hands in his pockets. He tilts his head as he looks up at the window leading to Scott’s room, his eyes narrowing, curious to know what the Alpha Boy is doing.
Scott was fixing his lacrosse stick, tying the net properly after it had gotten broken again after a tough match. He sighs a bit to himself, setting his lacrosse stick aside as he stands up from his bed, running a hand through his hair. He looks around his room for a few moments, grabbing a shirt from off the chair by his desk, putting it on before he decides to go to the door beside his room, gently knocking on it, smiling as Isaac answers the door.
“Yeah, Scott? Did something happen?” Isaac asks, tilting his head curiously at his friend.
Scott hesitates before he scratches the back of his neck, thinking about how to phrase what’s been bothering him, “Have you been hearing a third heartbeat? Not counting yourself.”
Isaac’s eyes widen a bit as he hears Scott’s question, pausing for a moment as he hadn’t even registered a fourth heartbeat until Scott brought it up, focusing his hearing. He tenses as he hears the fourth heartbeat, looking at Scott once more, “Now I do.. Yeah, do you know who it is?” Isaac cautiously questions, hoping that Scott knows who the heartbeat belongs to though considering he asked, he has a feeling that Scott has no clue.
Scott timidly shakes his head, sighing a bit as he hoped that it was the fact Isaac had one of their friends over but considering Isaac had no clue, his mind started to race with different questions; Did someone break in? Whose heartbeat is it? Where are they? What do they want? Do they want something with him or Isaac? Though he was quickly snapped out of his thoughts as he heard his mother’s voice.
“Boys!! Dinner!!” Melissa yells from downstairs, quickly distracting both of them as they head downstairs to see what Scott’s mom had made.
Scott pauses a bit when he reaches the bottom of the stairs and sees Stiles sitting at the kitchen table, his eyes widening slightly as he didn’t even know his best friend was going to visit. Though, knowing Stiles, it isn’t that surprising considering he likes to give surprise visits, “Hey Stiles, I didn’t know you were going to come over for dinner.” He says as he sits at the table across from Stiles, Isaac sitting beside him.
“I invited him, Scott, don’t worry.” Melissa suddenly speaks up as she dishes up the food for the boys to eat, a soft smile on her face.
Scott nods a bit to his mom before he looks at Stiles once more, his instincts telling him that something is off, but he really couldn’t figure out what. He was about to question his best friend when he pauses as his mom puts food in front of the three of them, thanking her before he starts to eat the spaghetti his mother made. Isaac happily starts to eat, Stiles doing the same but he eats a bit slower compared to Isaac.
“So, what brings you here besides Melissa inviting you, Stiles?” Isaac suddenly asks after a few minutes of silence.
Stiles slowly looks over towards Isaac, his eyes having an almost dangerous glint to them, his voice surprisingly having a gravelly tone to it, “Just thought I’d stop by and see one of my favorite people.” He explains as he looks over at Scott, making Scott tense a bit.
Scott had never heard Stiles talk like this before, let alone sound like that. He’s only heard Stiles talk like this before when he’s exhausted or sleep deprived, but he knew for a fact that Stiles has slept a lot recently. He hesitates as he fidgets a bit with his fork, looking down at his food as he couldn’t shake the feeling of something being wrong.
Isaac notices the heavy tension in the air after Stiles spoke, looking over at Scott and Stiles, glancing between the two a few times, wondering what was going on. He didn’t know Stiles that well, so he didn’t know if the way Stiles was acting was abnormal or not, though he wasn’t used to the sound of Stiles’s voice being that deep. He tilts his head at the two, “Scott?” He suddenly speaks up once more.
Scott gets pulled out of his thoughts once more as he looks over at Isaac, nodding a bit, “Yeah, Isaac?” He replies, wondering if Isaac needed something, completely forgetting about how he was just acting.
“You went quiet. You don’t usually go quiet when you’re talking with Stiles, usually you two talk for hours without pausing. Especially if it’s about the supernatural things happening around Beacon Hills.” Isaac states, his voice a bit hesitant as he wasn’t sure if he was overstepping or not.
Scott falters for a moment as he hadn’t even realized he didn’t respond to Stiles, looking over at his friend, noticing the slight glare he has, an almost nervous chuckle escaping his lips, “Sorry, I was just distracted thinking about the upcoming lacrosse game this Thursday.” He quickly replies, thinking up an excuse on the spot, though it wasn’t fully incorrect.
Isaac nods a bit though he didn’t believe it as he heard Scott’s heart rate spike when he spoke, his eyes narrowing a bit as he knew Scott was lying to his face but he didn’t call him out until he pauses his eating as he hears Melissa speak up.
“Scott, is there something you’re not telling us?” She softly asks, being able to read her son like a patient she’s seen regularly.
Scott sighs as he sets his fork down and runs a hand through his hair, knowing that he can’t exactly lie to his mom as she can always see right through his lies, “Just.. a bit on edge, that’s all, mom. I just need to go over a few things later.” He quietly explains, crossing his arms and resting them on the table.
Melissa nods a bit, humming in thought before she looks at Scott once more, “Scott, what’s on your mind?”
Scott looks away, resting his head on his hand, trying to think of a way to explain how he’s feeling to his mom in front of his friends. He didn’t know how to phrase it, the fourth heartbeat, Stiles acting off and suddenly showing up, the Lacrosse game, the full moon coming up.. It was all stressing him out and he didn’t want to tell people that he is stressed. He sighs a bit after a few moments of silence, “I’m.. overwhelmed, mom. There’s so much going on and I don’t know how to fix it or make it easier on myself as most of them are things out of my control.”
Melissa nods a bit as her expression softens a bit while looking at Scott, “Scott, what are you overwhelmed with? Is it the Lacrosse game on Thursday? The full moon coming up?” She asks, trying to figure out what’s bothering Scott.
Scott sighs, not minding that his mom is trying to figure out what’s wrong with him as he definitely would’ve gotten annoyed if it was anyone else. He pauses, trying to figure out what he wanted to say, what would actually sound.. Sane. He just nods to his mom’s question, his knee starting to bounce under the table as he tries to eat his food as a distraction from what is across the table.
Void’s lips slightly curl up into a smirk as he sets his fork down and looks over at his best friend, “Come on, Scott, you can voice your concerns here.” There was that deep tone again, the tone that was making Scott uneasy and Isaac noticed it.
Isaac looks over at Stiles, his eyes narrowing slightly until he feels his heart stop for a moment as Stiles quickly looks at him and catches him staring. Stiles never noticed him staring that quickly, if anything, it'd take a few minutes not a few seconds. Now Isaac knew something was wrong, though he had no clue how to voice it without coming off as rude or without worrying that he’s overstepping.
Scott was still silent and it got to the point that everyone else went silent as well, people even stopped eating due to it. Everyone at the table cared for Scott, in a way he was like the puzzle piece that had been missing their entire lives, well, except for Void. Void looked over at Scott with an almost irritated glint in his eyes as he sighs and kicks Scott in the leg, not enough to actually hurt however.
Scott jumps a bit from the sudden kick to his leg, quickly looking at the source of it, Void. He nervously clears his throat as he runs a hand through his hair, “Sorry, did you say something, Stiles? I got lost in my own mind again.” He almost mutters, his anxiety slowly climbing the more he realizes that something isn’t right with his best friend.
Void just rolls his eyes and stands up, moving away from the table, “Something tells me I’m not welcome here, so I’ll head home.” He says quietly, though there’s a glimpse of a smirk on his face for a split second as he turns around, one that only Scott caught.
Scott quickly stands up and moves around the table to grab Stiles’s hand, making the Nogitsune turn around with an almost angry expression, “Wai-” Scott stops himself midway as he notices the harsh look that Stiles gives him, a chill going down his spine that almost makes his abilities act up.
“Stiles, did I do something?” He suddenly asks after a few moments of silence which caught everyone off-guard, even Void. He hadn’t expected Scott to actually ask him that and he had no clue how to play it off.
Void pulls his hand away from Scott, and in that moment, Scott registered it. This isn’t his best friend. He never knew Stiles to just suddenly move away like that, if anything, Stiles would just tell Scott to let him go. He suddenly felt rage surge through him at the thought of his best friend being hurt, or worse, gone. He swiftly grabs Void by the collar of his shirt, making Isaac and Melissa quickly stand up in surprise to try and pry Scott off of Stiles.
Void was in shock for a moment before he grins at Scott then pretends to play the victim to Isaac and Melissa, “I don’t know what happened, I didn’t even say anything to him..” Void spoke almost quietly, feigning innocence to the two that still haven’t pieced it together.
Melissa looks at her son, completely confused as it wasn’t like Scott to suddenly attack his best friend. He never saw either of them physically fight before. Sure, they’d play fight with each other, but Melissa could quickly tell that it wasn’t just them messing around. Scott was actually upset, and it was really clear to see in his body language and the way he glared at Stiles, “Scott, are you sure you’re okay honey?” Melissa carefully asks her son, not wanting to provoke him further.
Scott was struggling to calm down, just the thought of Stiles being hurt still weighing heavy in his mind which is causing his claws to start to form to which Isaac immediately notices and he moves Scott away from Stiles, “Hey hey, Scott, come on, breathe, look at me okay?” He spoke a bit fast, trying his best to get control of the situation so Scott doesn’t turn and end up hurting his friend.
Scott glares at Isaac, and all he says is, “That’s not Stiles..” In a cold tone, shocking Isaac as he nervously looks over at.. Well, whoever is in Stiles’s place being comforted by Melissa. Now it didn’t sit right with Isaac, if Scott said that isn’t Stiles, he’d believe him. He knew something was wrong but he didn’t expect it to be the fact that someone had stolen Stiles from everyone.
Void looked over at the two and saw the glare from both of them, which quickly told him that they knew he wasn’t actually Stiles, though the only one that didn’t know was Melissa. He was going to use that to his advantage, he’d just have to come up with a proper plan to do so. However, before he could do anything, Isaac and Scott were suddenly in front of Void, Melissa standing off to the side with a concerned look on her face.
Void quickly moves back from the two, moving with a certain precision that Stiles couldn’t pull off as easily. Scott and Isaac quickly took action as they turned, a low growl escaping them both as they move to attack Void. Void quickly dodges out of the way before he quickly catches a punch from Isaac with his hand, shoving Isaac back almost effortlessly, making him fall onto his back. Scott takes over and goes to charge at Void, but he pauses as Void suddenly grabs hold of his head and though Scott quickly tries to break free from his grip, it’s definitely not easy.
Isaac scrambles to get up as he tries to get Scott out of Void’s grip, yanking Scott back by his leg which causes Void to stumble forward and let go. Melissa tries to step in but before she can, Isaac was about to growl in Void’s direction but when he looked over, Void was nowhere to be seen and the door was wide open. He blinks a few times in surprise but he stops for a split second, a bit conflicted on what to do first but he makes up his mind and checks on Scott to make sure he’s okay as Melissa checks the door.
Isaac looked a bit worried as he checked Scott for any injuries, but all he could see was that Scott looked angry at himself and had turned back. He stands up, offering a hand to Scott to help him up which Scott takes and stands up with his friend’s help. Scott sighs as he runs a hand through his hair, if Isaac wasn’t there, he wasn’t sure what ‘Stiles’ would have done to him as it was too dangerous for his mom to step in and help. One thing’s for sure, he had to tell the others, and he needed to talk to his boss, Deaton.
Chapter Text
Scott was surrounded by his friends and others, Derek, Allison, Isaac, Ethan, Aiden, Lydia, Peter, Chris, and Deaton in Deaton’s clinic in the operation room a bit after school got out. He looks over at Deaton, “He wasn’t acting the way he usually does.. He, he even tried to attack me and the moment he grabbed my head it was like I couldn’t think. I’m concerned that something happened to him or worse, someone took his place.” He explains almost urgently, scared for what could happen to his friend.
Deaton hums in response as he thinks about what the issue with Stiles could be as Isaac speaks up, “He even looked paler than usual, and his eyebags were worse than normal, like he wasn’t sleeping at all.”
Lydia rolls her eyes, “When is he ever sleeping, Isaac?”
Allison nudges Lydia, “Not the time.”
Derek sighs as he looks over at Scott, “What else did you think was off about Stiles?”
“He had a deeper and raspier voice, and it was like he was faking how he was feeling. Like it was unnatural to him.” Scott explains as he looks over at Derek who just nods and stands upright.
“Freaking out about this isn’t going to help anything. All we can do now is watch Stiles until we’re sure we can figure out what the hell is happening with him.” Derek says coldly to the group, his eyes narrowing at everyone else—almost like he was challenging them to speak up against him—as they stay silent for a few moments before Deaton speaks up after Derek.
“Derek is right, as concerning and alarming his behavior may be, we can’t jump to conclusions so soon. However, if you do find anything else out, do let me know and I’ll work on things here in the meantime.” He explains to them all before he looks at Scott, “However, I would like to speak to you Scott. Privately.” He looks to the others who slowly disperse, except for Isaac.
“Isaac.” Deaton looks at the teen, his expression turning curious, his tone having a bit of a sternness to it, but also an unmistakable softness.
“I should know how to help him if it’s something serious. He is my best friend after all.” Isaac quickly explains, almost defensively.
Scott gives Isaac a reassuring smile before he looks over at Deaton, “Is everything alright? What did you want to talk about?”
“It’s your mind I’m worried about.” Deaton states calmly as he gestures for Scott to sit down, which he does.
Scott looks up at his boss, confused as he blinks a few times to process that, “What do you mean my mind?”
“Well, do you remember that night in the bank? When you saved me?” Deaton questions as he grabs a small light to shine in Scott’s eyes.
“I saved you?” Scott questions in return, wincing a bit from the bright light in his face, his pupils quickly shrinking as they try to adjust to the sudden brightness.
“Yes, you saved me after I had told you I was being taken. Do you remember that, Scott?” Deaton puts the light away, crossing his arms over his chest.
“I think so? It feels a bit fuzzy whenever I try to remember it.” Scott admits, looking down for a moment as he fidgets with his fingers.
“Do you remember your eyes turning red?” Isaac chimes in, a bit worried.
“My eyes turned red??” Scott asks in disbelief, standing up a bit quick.
Deaton gestures for Scott to sit down again, “Yes, I described to you what a True Alpha was and how rare it is. I was under the impression that’s what you are.”
Scott looked distraught for a moment, struggling to form the memories of what Deaton had told him. It felt like something was blocking his mind from understanding what his boss was talking about and it hurt, almost like there was a padlock he didn't have a key or code to. He wasn’t one to forget things he was told, sure sometimes he didn’t hear people, but it wasn’t like him to forget important things like that. Especially about his Werewolf side as he tried to retain any information he could, but it felt like he barely had access anymore.
“Scott? You okay?” Isaac suddenly asks, now in front of Scott trying to get his attention.
Scott jumps as he looks up at his friend, blinking a few times until he processes that he must’ve been quiet for a while, “Yeah, sorry..”
“We were calling for you, did you not hear us?” Deaton says as he moves close to Scott once more while Isaac steps aside.
Scott hesitantly shakes his head before he looks up at Deaton, “No, I.. I didn’t hear you.” He quietly replies, quickly trying to avoid eye contact.
Deaton nods a bit, “I had asked you if you remember what a True Alpha is.”
Scott shakes his head, “I feel like I should but I can’t place it. Like it’s blocked from my own view in a way.”
Isaac started to feel more worried than he was before while Deaton nods, “It's possible that your memories are being messed with, or even removed. Sadly I won’t be able to know until we properly figure out what’s going on that is causing you to feel like your memories are being blocked.”
Scott nods a bit while he continues to fidget, his anxiety climbing higher and higher as he realizes there might be something else at work here, but he has no clue what it could be. Then he thinks back to when ‘Stiles’ grabbed him and he quickly looks over at Deaton, “What if it’s Stiles? Is it possible he could be doing this?”
Deaton paused for a moment while he thought about the possibility then nodded a bit. He then looks over at Scott and Isaac, “You might need to be careful around Stiles if it is him causing this. If it is, and you know, you tell me immediately.” He tells the two boys and they nod to his order.
Isaac walks out of the clinic with Scott, a worried look on his face, “You really think it could be Stiles causing this? I thought Stiles was human..”
Scott sighs and crosses his arms over his chest, “Sadly a part of me believes that he might not be human anymore. The way he acted at dinner, the fact he even attacked both of us, and he was so quick! I know Stiles, he wouldn’t become that fast overnight unless an Alpha bit him. But I know for a fact none of the alphas in Beacon Hills bit him. And on top of that, I know he wouldn’t accept a bite and if he did, he’d tell me.”
Isaac nods as he listens to Scott ramble, his own mind racing with different thoughts of what could be wrong with Stiles. At a time like this, Isaac wishes he got to know Stiles better in some capacity. He isn’t as close with Stiles like he is with Allison or Scott. Though, from Scott's reactions, this was definitely out of the ordinary. Almost to a severe degree. His ears almost seem to twitch from noticing that Scott’s heart is racing. He looks at his friend, gently putting his hand on Scott's shoulder, “Hey, we’ll get this figured out. We can help Stiles. I know we can. He may not like me, but I can still help however you need me to.”
Scott glances at Isaac, a small smile forming on his face before he takes a deep breath to try and relax, “Thanks Isaac. I'm just wondering what happened to my best friend. I've known him for years and he's never acted like this. I’m starting to wonder if he isn’t Stiles anymore.” He trails off a bit, pausing mid-step before he looks over at Isaac, “That’s it. It isn’t Stiles, that’s why he seems off to me.”
Isaac blinks a few times before he slowly nods a bit, “Do you want to tell the others that? It could be some supernatural thing at play here. I doubt there’s just werewolves in Beacon Hills with all the stuff we’ve seen.” He explains with slight annoyance, rolling his eyes before he crosses his arms over his chest. He hoped that werewolves were the only thing they had to deal with, given how annoying power-hungry alphas can be.
Scott nods a bit, a small almost nervous chuckle leaving his throat. He continues walking towards Allison’s house with Isaac, he may still have a bit of a headache, but they needed to try and find out what was going on. At least see if they could research what is going on, even the slightest detail would be helpful, and hopefully, Mr.Argent could provide some insight into what they’re both dealing with.
They both walk into Allison’s apartment building after getting permission, walking into Mr.Argent before they reach Allison, “Hello boys, I take it you need Allison for something?” Chris asks calmly, curious.
Scott glances at Isaac before looking towards Mr.Argent once more, “Actually, we were wanting to talk to you.” He slightly hesitates to speak out, unsure if Mr.Argent is even willing to talk to them both.
Chris raises an eyebrow but shrugs and signals for the two to follow him as he walks into his office. He sits down and gestures for the boys to sit down before he speaks up, “I take it this is about Stiles?” He questions the two, trying to see if he knew what the conversation was about so he could be prepared.
Isaac nods, “Scott thinks it.. isn’t Stiles if that makes sense. I agree with it, though I’ve always seen Stiles be aggressive.” He shrugs a bit. It wasn’t wrong, Stiles always had something sarcastic or rude to say to him.
Scott glares at Isaac for a moment before he looks at Mr.Argent, “Yes, it is sir. I believe there’s something supernatural going on with Stiles. In all the years I’ve known him, he’s never been.. Well, this aggressive. I have known him to get angry here and there, but he’s never tried to intentionally hurt me. At least, not to this extent.” He explains his side of it, a hint of urgency to his voice.
Isaac sighs, “You keep saying how well you know him. We ALL know how well you know Stiles.” He grumbles, almost inaudibly.
Scott glares at Isaac for a moment once more before the two look towards Mr.Argent as he chuckles a bit, “Look you two, yes, it’s possible there’s something supernatural going on with Stiles, but there’s not an easy way to prove that. Especially with the different amount of supernatural beings that could be out there, there’s probably hundreds of thousands of possibilities of what might be happening with Stiles.” Chris explains to them both before he quickly looks towards the door as he hears another voice.
“Given the severity of his actions, it’s possible that it might be possession related.” Allison suddenly speaks up from her position near the door, startling Scott and Isaac.
Scott brightens up a bit, “Allison.” He almost softly says, a small smile on his face.
Isaac pouts slightly as he sees how excited Scott is to see Allison though he does his best to not show it before he looks over at Mr.Argent once more, “It’s possible Allison is right. It could help narrow down the search a bit of what exactly we’re going up against.”
Chris nods before he smiles a bit as he looks at his daughter, “I take it you’ve already been doing some research?”
Allison smiles as she looks at her father, “Actually, I’ve been talking with that new girl, Kira. She said she would talk to her mom about it to see if her mom knows anything. I’m currently waiting on a response, but I think it has something to do with possession given how Stiles hasn’t been acting like himself.” She explains to the three of them, crossing her arms over her chest while she leans against the doorframe.
Scott’s eyebrows shoot up at the mention of possession while Isaac looks at Allison in disbelief, “Possession?” They both ask simultaneously, looking at Allison before glancing at each other.
Allison nods, slightly rolling her eyes from the boys’s reaction, “Yes, possession. It would make sense. Think about it, Stiles hasn't been himself and is suddenly stronger?” She stands upright, trying to point out the obvious to the two as her dad nods in acknowledgement.
Isaac is the first to speak of the two, a hesitant tone to his voice, “If that's really the case, what could he be possessed by?” He nervously questions, starting to fidget with his fingers.
Scott looks completely lost in thought. To him, it did make sense. The sudden strength increase, the raspy voice, the difference in actions and looks, even the sudden agility. It made him wonder what exactly was possessing his friend. He had to sleep on it, so much had already happened today and yesterday, he just wanted to try and get some sleep and worry about it all tomorrow since he hasn't slept properly since.. ‘Stiles’ attacked him.
Allison grabs Scott’s attention by a gentle touch to his shoulder, “Hey, we’ll get this figured out. We’ll make sure Stiles is okay.” She gently reassures him, a soft smile on her face.
Isaac nods along with Mr.Argent, “We’ll do whatever we can to get Stiles back to normal if it is indeed possession. Until then, you should both go back home and try and get some rest, or at least eat something. I doubt either of you have properly eaten today.” Mr.Argent says as he stands up from his desk, cleaning off one of his weapons.
Allison smiles once more as she looks over at her dad, “I can make them something to eat before they leave.” She offers, making both Isaac and Scott excited.
Her dad chuckles a bit before he shrugs, “Go for it, but they can't stay the night.” He states with a slightly stern tone as he playfully glares at the two boys who nervously nod.
Scott and Isaac hang out with Allison as she cooks, trying to get their minds off of what's going on currently to give their minds a break. After they eat with Allison they head out back home. Though, Melissa isn't home as she had to pick up a graveyard shift for the hospital so the two were sadly home alone.
Scott went up to his room and took the chance to take a shower, hoping to find a way to relax before school the next day. After all, he couldn't just pause school because his friend was acting weird. After the shower and getting dressed, he starts to brush his teeth to get ready for bed when Isaac walks into his room.
“Hey, do you think we should hold another meeting after school tomorrow?” Isaac asks, tilting his head a bit.
Scott shrugs, hesitant as he wasn't sure if he should bother the others again. After all, he didn't have that much information to share besides the fact that what's happening to Stiles might be possession. He sighs as he spits out some of the toothpaste into the sink, turning the water on, “I don't think it's necessary until we find out some actual information to help out Stiles. After all, all we know is that it might be possession and that he might be able to mess with my mind.”
Isaac nods, crossing his arms over his chest, “Okay, well, I'm next-door, so just call for me if you figure anything out. Otherwise, goodnight Scott.” He tries to force a slight smile on his face to hide the anxiety he was feeling about the whole thing.
Scott nods as he finishes brushing his teeth, rinsing his mouth out and wiping it off before he walks out of the bathroom, turning the light off and shutting the door. He walks over to Isaac, a slight smile on his face, “Thanks Isaac. I'll let you know if anything happens, or if there's new information.” He reassures his friend.
Isaac nods a bit in response as he leaves the room, gently shutting the door behind him. Scott sighs and lays down on his bed, looking up at the ceiling as he pulls the blankets over him, stretching a bit and yawning. He was exhausted after today, slowly starting to fall asleep, but not before he heard a third heartbeat. One that he knew wasn't his mother..
