Thursday March 22 1973 A.... Lorraine Baines Mcfly's life had become something of a nightmare in the span of only a weeks time. One that she desperately wanted to wake up from. It had all started the previous Thursday on the 15th. The day had started out like any other. She had gotten up early that morning to get ten year old David and seven year old Linda off to Hill Valley Elementary School, and four year old Marty off to nursery school. Her husband George had a meeting to get to that morning, and later in the day...that very evening was due to accept an award from the Hill Valley Preservation Society. Once the children were gone for the day , he had brought Lorraine a cup of coffee , and the two sat together on the sofa with his arm around her enjoying the peace before kissing each other goodbye and going their separate ways for the day. If she had known it would be the last time that she would see her husband alive, Lorraine would have held on and never let go.After the kids had returned home for the day she made an early dinner and set about getting them all ready as George was due back home to pick them all up before heading to the courthouse...where he was to accept the award. She had thought it odd when an hour had gone by and he hadn't shown up but wasn't too concerned...at first. After all he could've been caught in traffic or something of that nature. When another hour had passed , and then two more, Lorraine was really starting to worry... though for the children's sake did her best not to show it. As the minutes ticked by she gave up waiting as it was far too late to go anywhere and put them to bed..quick to reassure them that Daddy was probably just caught up somewhere, he loved them and would see them all in the morning. As soon as she was sure they were all asleep Lorraine set about calling everyone that the McFly’s knew in hopes that someone had seen George and knew where he might be; noone had.She settled herself on the sofa in the living room to wait up for him . The next morning Lorraine opened her eyes after unintentionally dozing off. A blanket had been placed over her, so she managed to convince herself that George had come home late and left her there to sleep in peace. After getting up for the day and looking around it became obvious that he wasn't home.Once again Lorraine tried to convince herself that there was a logical explanation for all of this ...that he had simply gotten an early start and slipped out, not wanting to disturb the family. Ignoring the pit that had settled into her stomach she set about waking the kids up and getting them ready for school as she had the day before . Determined not to worry them as they inquired as to their fathers whereabouts the young mother assured them what she had hoped to be the case ; that they must've just missed him but he would be there waiting for them like always when they returned home. The house felt stuffy...almost claustrophobic that morning. Lorraine could feel the pit in her stomach expand to her throat constricting for reasons that escaped even her. She knew one thing; when George did resurface she was going to give him the biggest hug and kiss he ever had...right before she chewed him out for making her worry so much. Feeling the need for air she opted to walk with Dave , Linda and Marty to their respective schools instead of driving them . Making her way back home she began to toy with the idea of calling the police in the back of her mind ...but pushed the thought away...not ready to face it. But as the house came back into view Lorraine was shocked to see a police cruiser waiting for her in the driveway and as the two men got out of the vehicle and approached her the pit in her stomach became a rock and she felt weak in the knees ...not liking at all what was unfolding in front of her. She shakily fished around in her purse for the house keys only to discover the door was unlocked. It was a detail that she would later obsess over...thinking that perhaps there had been a break in but when there didn't seem to be anything damaged or missing...eventually she put the thought out of her mind. Opening the door and stepping into the house she didn't bother to close it as the officers followed her inside. The older of the two men took off his hat and began to speak in a sympathetic tone. They needed Lorraine to come with them to make an identification...there was reason to believe that George had been shot . The woman stood there gripping the wall as his lips continued to move...not able to hear anything else. It was patently absurd...the idea that someone would want to hurt her husband...a man well liked and respected in the community...but Lorraine went with the officers anyway...determined to get the whole thing over with. The sooner she confirmed the poor soul that had been struck down was not her husband the better.. and then Lorraine could get to the bottom of where he actually went. After arriving at the police station she vaguely remembered being led into a room....to a body underneath a sheet. It was the younger of the two police officers that pulled it back , revealing the man on the table. Lorraine refused to look for what seemed like forever, but after some time had passed resigned herself to the inevitable. She heard a scream, followed by hysterical sobbing in a voice that sounded like her own but it was so far away it had to have been someone else. After the police had taken her home Lorraine collapsed on the couch ...unable to move. Before long she was weeping silently into the cushions until her body began to ache eventually having the presence of mind to call a neighbor to pick the kids up from school ...not up to the task herself. Telling her babies that their father died was the hardest thing she ever had to do; she didn't know if they would ever be able to handle the gruesome circumstances or if she would ever be able to tell them when they were older. So understandably Lorraine omitted it entirely. In the days that followed they slept with her in the bed that had been hers and George's...not that any of them rested much. She kept the three of them close by in the week that followed, terrified that what remained of her family would be taken from her by the monster that did this to George. They wouldn't have been able to handle school anyway she reasoned....not so soon. They were all close with their father and while she was worried about them all Lorraine knew it was Dave that took it the hardest . The boy almost immediately jumped in taking care of his younger siblings without being asked , helping with meals , even mowing the lawn...all things his father did. While Lorraine normally would've been proud instead it troubled her. For the one thing David hadn't yet done was cry...or show any emotion for that matter. And it made her feel like the world's worst mother for failing to help him through it. The neighbors...all of those that knew George had stopped by a lot in those first few days...offering condolences and sympathy . Soon the house was filled with cards and food so many in fact it was hard to keep track of who sent what. One such care package had a bottle of bourbon in it and after a particularly restless night Lorraine downed a glass of it...just to get some sleep. Not one to typically drink to excess, the next morning she dumped the rest down the kitchen sink. As much as she wanted to disconnect and hide from the mess her life became it was the day of George's funeral and she needed to be there for the children. Upon waking from what little rest she had the widow had started to prepare for the day only to discover that Dave had already been up for hours having fed his younger siblings and helped them wash and dress for the day...right on target for his behavior as of late. The mother approached her oldest , and began fixing the collar on his shirt. " You didn't have to do all this sweetheart." The boy's response was almost robotic as he stared back at his mother." I wanted to " he said quietly. Lorraine took his face in her hands struggling with what to say . When words didn't come she instead opted to bury her face into her son's curly hair planting a kiss on the top of his head.Sighing heavily she turned to head for the bathroom to start getting ready herself when the doorbell rang. Changing direction and opening the front door...she was surprised to see Biff Tannen of all people on the other side. It wasn't that unusual for him to show up unannounced...but Lorraine had fully expected to see her mother standing there. She was due to drive over from her apartment to join the family on the way to the cemetery.Needless to say the sight of him caught her off guard. "I'm sorry to bother you so early Lorraine " he was saying." I was in Las Vegas on business and heard about what happened to George "" I caught the next flight home and wanted to tell you how sorry I am. He was a good man and didn't deserve what happened " While Lorraine appreciated the sentiment it was surprising nonetheless considering the....complicated history the three of them had...starting all the way back in high-school ." That's....nice of you to say Biff" she answered , still taken aback. He had been a bully in those days ...pretty much terrorizing anyone who was unfortunate enough to cross paths with him. His main target had been George ...likely because he began showing an interest in Lorraine who he had also wanted .Biff had aggressively pursued her the for most of the year despite being told in no uncertain terms that she wasn't interested. It wasn't until a drunken night in a parked car that George put him in his place and he finally took the hint. After that the two men developed a grudging sort of truce and he mostly left the young couple alone. During the three years that followed high school it was safe to say the trio had evolved into what seemed to be a tentative but distant friendship ; all were seemingly willing to leave the past just where it was. Then Biff won over a million dollars at the racetrack and began flaunting his newfound wealth. The cars and trips around the world, the Hollywood parties ...even the huge custom mansion on the edge of town had been over the top but he was young, and it was understandable at least that he would go overboard. When his unprecedented luck gambling on sporting events seemingly began to die down after a few years , the former bully married and parlayed his winnings into the start of his company, Biffco. It hadn't been all that long after that ...maybe a couple years after the disastrous end of his first marriage that things really took a turn. Biff began calling the Mcfly house, long after their own marriage all hours ...day or night to talk to Lorraine...most of the time he had a few too many to drink. After awhile when she stopped answering the phone ...they would be flooded with gifts . Jewlery , furs, flashy and expensive clothing...all promptly sent back so as not to encourage him. It was all to make up for his past behavior he had claimed...but George and Lorraine presented a united front, telling him firmly but politely that all was forgiven and it wasn't necessary. The gifts and phone calls would stop...at first...but flared back up again after the subsequent birth of each of the kids.Likewise when Biff had married for the second time he made himself scarce ...but after that union had also come to an end in the fall of 1972 the gifts and phone calls came back with a vengeance.... until George began protesting the lack of environmental policy for the toxic waste disposal company that Biff had started. Then ...as abruptly as it had started the phone calls ...the gifts...all of the attention stopped . In fact he had once again made himself scarce ; the family had not seen or heard from him again ...until he showed up unexpectedly that very morning. He stood at the door gazing at Lorraine..who hadn't opened it more than a few inches. Subconsciously closing her bathrobe tighter she was very aware of the three sets of eyes behind her ...and there was still a lot to do if they were going to get to the cemetary on time...and most of the town was likely already waiting. " It was nice of you to stop by Biff but if there's nothing else.." she said trailing of ...hoping he would take the hint and leave. But instead the businessman smiled and said reaching into the inside pocket of his suit." I just came from a board meeting in Las Vegas " he began pulling out an envelope and handing it to her as she began to open it . "This was for George..I was going to give it to him when I got back but considering the circumstances...I want you to have it.""It's a contract " he continued before the question could be asked. "That award he was going to get attracted...a lot of attention. All that protesting against Biffco paid off." We're opening a new plant in Hill Valley and I wanted to give him a job.The board agrees...I can't afford the negative publicity so it was worth it to have him on our side ." he finished with a chuckle.Lorraine was speechless as she scanned over the page trying to make heads or tails out of the wording of it but getting the gist of it . The salary being offered was almost double what George had been making...allowing him substantially more time with the family and to get the writing career off the ground that he had wanted for so long. " I don't know what to say ..." she choked out as Biff put his hand up interrupting whatever else she might've said. " You don't have to say anything Lorraine " he said. " I was happy to do it. " He turned slightly glancing at the limousine waiting in the driveway. " I heard the funeral was today. Can I offer you and your family a ride in the company car"?" I can wait for you to finish getting ready".he said as the woman followed his gaze before answering. " That's...kind of you Biff but we are going with my mother when she gets here" " But your welcome to come to the service if you'd like...." " No ..no I wouldn't want to intrude" he said quickly glancing at his rolex." Besides...I have another meeting to get to ...I was going to have the driver drop me off on the way and pick me up later." He reached into another pocket pulling out an business card and a pen. " I had my home number changed after the divorce..."he said scribbling a number down ,along with another one underneath it." The top one is my new home number...the other one is my office number for the Hill Valley plant we are going to open...it's active and should be the same once we get the place up and running." He pressed the card into Lorraine's hand while taking her other one in his hand. " If you need anything.... " he said, his eyes drifting toward Dave, Linda and Marty still watching from behind their mother . " Call me ...any time...I mean it." With that he turned and walked to the waiting car feeling the widow's stunned eyes on him as he got in and closed the door. Leaning back and smirking to himself Biff lit up a cigar before instructing the driver to roll up the privacy window and to head for home. He hadn't expected Lorraine to take the offered ride to the funeral...but it was just part of the plan that had been in motion ...one that was long overdue in his opinion. Reaching into his back pocket the businessman pulled the Almanac out of it and began flipping through it looking for an upcoming sporting event that he could place a couple bets on. He thought as he often did about the day that changed his life. When the old man he had never seen before....or since had bestowed upon him the key to a better life.As soon as he could afford to Biff had purchased a safe for it...but sometimes...much like that day ...he preferred to keep it on him...to have it close by. The old man was right....it gave him everything he ever wanted...made Biff wealthy beyond his wildest dreams. He had the best of everything. Cars...houses...clothes women...but there was one thing that he wanted the most. What had eluded his grasp for years. Lorraine. When his ex wife had come across the room hidden in the mansion it had been a wake up call for Biff. He had tried to convince himself for years that as long as he had that... in a way it was keeping her close and it would be enough. But it had been a mistake. At first he cursed himself out for not hiding the room better but after Jayne had stormed out of his life Biff had actually felt grateful that it forced him to see clearer. That despite everything in the room dedicated to the girl he had wanted since high-school...there simply was no substitute for the real thing. The old man had promised.....that someday he would get to marry her. But Biff had been so stupid back then ...like a bull in a china shop. Looking back her reaction to his boasting...that she was his girl...it was to be expected. Before kicking him in the shin and running away she had declared that she would NEVER be his....not even for a million dollars. It was always the chase...and the fact that Lorraine resisted that made him want her all the more. But there was more than one way of getting what he wanted.Biff had.....significantly more than the million. And a plan to claim what was his. One that had been in the works for months and required discretion. And his growing political clout. To secure...the proper channels setting things in motion. Staying home instead of gallivanting around the world. It was all going to be worth it. Biff Tannen was going to have it all...and make Lorraine Baines his wife at long last...By any means necessary......

January 2 1973 A. Biff had been lounged on his back on the circular mattress...eyes closed trying to rid himself of a headache that had quickly developed...after the Christmas presents he sent were returned promptly....just like all of the others he sent over the years . Of course this particular headache had been one that had been plaguing him off an on since high-school....and was getting increasingly worse.Opening his eyes for the first time in over an hour he sat up ...his legs over the side of the bed ...reaching for the glass of scotch that sat on the bedside table. Picking it up the ice made a soft clinking noise as the businessman brought the glass up to his forehead for a minute before downing it's contents savoring it's flavor before swallowing finally. It had been....two months...since Jayne discovered his secret while he was away on business. They had been doing some renovations on the mansion when the contractor had accidentally come across the room while tearing down a wall . After returning home he found her in the middle of the room where she slapped him hard across the face and stormed angrily out...effectively ending their marriage but not before accusing Biff of having an affair with Hill Valley's mother of the year 1972 . Athough he hadn't technically cheated on his wife her lawyers were raking him over the coals as if he had...despite the supposedly iron clad prenup. It was a setback...at first when things ended between them ..but as it turned out Biff was grateful. It made him realize that there was only one girl that kept his attention , Lorraine Baines. Always her...the one that got away. Setting the glass back down he found himself face to face with the girl in question....followed by another image ...and another and more still that filled the room . A bust of her likeness sat dead in the center next to the bed. Cathartic that it was surrounded by images of her....it just wasn't enough..not anymore. He had to have her; the room would have to be destroyed now that its existence had been revealed.... but not before setting his plan into motion. He had hoped Lorraine would come to her senses and leave Mcfly ..with all of the attention that Biff lavished upon her...but it was clear that she would need a push in the right direction. Briefly toying with idea of leaving the room to refill his glass an intercom that sat nearby buzzed followed by Match's voice. " Hey boss "..Biff groaned audibly at the disturbance wondering when these were installed in all of the rooms what he had been thinking when he included this one."What do you want...I told you buttheads I wanted to be left alone "!! he yelled after pressing the button on his end. There was static on the receiving end followed by the other man's voice." There's someone here to see you..Don't know who it is...Bob won't say."he answered citing the butler. That got the millionaire's attention. This was someone he was expecting...and hopefully would be...an asset to the plan he was putting together. "Be right up" he grunted bounding up the stairs before shutting and locking the door behind him. Making his way to the media room he could hear raucous laughter within as Biff flung the door open, nearly knocking over 3D and Skinhead who was right behind him. " I don't care where you three go but get lost" he said as Match spoke up around the toothpick in his mouth." What gives Biff?" I thought you needed us today. " The businessman glared at his three friends. " ...take the rest of the day off...BEAT IT AND DON'T COME BACK UNTIL I CALL FOR YOU.!!! With that the three left to go about their business muttering between them all the way down the hall and out the door. After making sure they were gone, Biff picked up the phone on his desk and told the butler to send his vistor up while he poured another drink and waited. Before long...not more than a couple minutes had gone by and the police officer he had been expecting walked in ...closing the door behind him. " You're earlier than I expected...Deputy Cheif Foley" Biff smirked , pouring another scotch and sliding it in the man's direction as he shook his head." Not yet Tannen...still a Captain" "Don't be modest ..." he countered " I have pull with your boss ...if this goes well Biffco will be making a sizable donation to your department"Besides " he added knowingly " There's a lot of crime in this town and I have big plans for it...I could use Hill Valley's finest..with some of my future endeavors."" And I don't suppose you know anything about that do you Tannen? The crime in this town ."Foley shot back before continuing. "Don't you have something for me"?Smirking once again Biff stood and moved a painting aside revealing a safe that he opened and began putting stacks of cash in a nearby bag and sliding it in Foley's direction." You'll get the other half when the case is closed." he said lighting a cigar . The police captain couldn't help gaping a little at the sheer amount of money in front of him. " I'm risking twenty-five years on the force by doing this Tannen..my pension... everything." " Your being well compensated ...and there's plenty more where that came from." Biff countered. " Even still " said Foley. " This needs to be done right." " Do you know what your going to use"? The millionaire turned back around to the safe and pulled out a .38 Smith and Wesson model 60 and handed it to Foley before closing the safe and replacing the painting. The other man looked it over before setting it down on the desk." Interesting choice..." he murmured before shifting focus back to the task at hand." Now look Tannen here's how this has to be done..." No witnesses..none don't bring anyone with you...it's gotta be just you and him.Do it in an out of the way spot ...like an alley." Wear gloves ...don't get prints on the gun." And when your done " Take them off and throw them into the river. ""What ever is in his wallet ....cash credit cards take it ..leave the wallet itself nearby ." And this is the most important "... he added ." You need an air tight alibi ...one that puts you far away from the crime scene so it doesn't get traced back to you...or me. So you better start thinking about that..." There was something Biff had in mind that would put him in another state . He was going to arrange a " business trip" that would require some planning but to anyone that looked into it Biff Tannen would be checked into the International Hotel in Las Vegas while the crime took place and back home.... just in time to comfort the grieving widow." Is that it ?"he asked...a hint of sarcasm in his voice." " Just about..." Foley confirmed " I have a private investigator working on the rest...but it may take a while...a couple months at most" " A couple MONTHS "!? Biff shouted before lowering his voice. " You can't get it done sooner than that" ? " Hey...falsifing documents is no light manner...neither is getting into someone's bank records...it'll take however long it takes"...Foley said standing up heading for the door...bag in hand. " You know I've been looking into this guy...he seems on the up and up...Is it really worth all of this? Back out now...no questions asked...and it stays in this room" Biff looked out the window. There were none of the usual protestors outside the gates of his home for once...likely due to the winter break. Their fearless leader George Mcfly was not in his usual spot ...probably home with Lorraine. And while it was fun rubbing his success in their faces while holding out hope that she would see who the better man was..the fun was over...it was time to take action. " Its worth it " he grunted between his teeth. " Okay then... I'll be in touch " Foley said as he closed the door on his way out........ March 23 1973 A. Biff was something of an expert in covering his tracks and although it was far from the first crime he ever committed it was the first time something he did resulted in the death of someone else ..at least directly. So he made sure to follow Foley's advice to the letter. The tough part had been not taking anyone with him to do the deed....but everything had still gone according to plan. It had been so easy Biff reflected...Mcfly fell for it hook, line and sinker ...the fake notice from the Hill Valley Preservation Society...he had even called the false phone number that had been on the letter to verbally confirm he was accepting the award..for his work to preserve the environment and to " keep Hill Valley a nice place to live." Biff had made certain to stay hidden and to not let anyone, even Match , Skinhead, and 3D know that he was still in Hill Valley until after he returned from the supposed " board meeting in Las Vegas" that he had told Lorraine he had just come from when he showed up at her house the day before. The only disappointment so far was that it was taking a while for Foley's private investigator longer than expected but was "putting something together " so until he had more the second part of Biff's plan was taking longer than he originally wanted. But it was Foley himself who had dropped by on the 16th with an envelope that he recovered from the Mcfly house. After he had left the businessman opened it ....revealing a life insurance policy in George Mcfly's name with Lorraine as the sole beneficiary. Biff had sat there going through it...and while the amount was not much money to him...it would've kept Lorraine and the kids comfortable for a while ...or possibly would've paid the house off at least. Knowing a discovery such as this would've kept her away from him even longer...Biff did the only thing he could do..Take out his lighter and set it ablaze ....and watch as it turned to ash......

Monday April 16 1973 a. " Marty stop squirming... I need to get your shoe tied...where is your other one."?The four year old made a face as his older brother was trying with little success to help him dress for nursery school" I dunno I think Linda took it "he said fidgeting in his seat as their seven year old sister walked into the room rolling her eyes " I didn't take your stupid shoe Marty " " Mom I can't find my hairbrush" ! She called out as David shoved her lightly while hissing. " Give Mom some peace and quiet ...she's trying to get dressed. I'll help you look when I'm done here ....if Marty will ever sit still....the smaller boy lifted his chin in defiance while purposely swinging his legs in an effort to move even more in his seat while Linda whined " Stop shoving me..Dave."...."Mooommm"!! she called out as the ten year old clamped his hand over her mouth shushing her into silence. " Be quiet Linda ..." he hissed." Leave Mom alone..your hair looks fine anyway...now finish getting ready we're late!" The girl glared back before stalking out of the room . " What makes you think you can tell me what to do..your not Dad"! she said her eyes stinging with tears." Well someone has to help Mom and since I'm the oldest I have to be the man of the house and look out for you and Marty " the boy shot back , repeating something George would tell him if he left the three of them at home with Lorraine for any reason. In the weeks that followed his death..the words had stuck out in David's mind and he took them to heart...determined to do his best to fill the void that their father's absence had created. " And keep your voice down...I don't want Mom to think we're fighting" The seven year old's face crumpled as she burst into tears something that was beginning to become a frequent occurrence in the Mcfly household as her older brother crossed the room frantically trying to calm her down as Marty jumped off the stool with his chest puffed out ." I'm a big boy I can help Mommy ...that's what Daddy told me " he proclaimed loudly jumping from one foot to the other.Suddenly he tripped over his still untied shoe and fell on the kitchen floor skinning his knee. His blue eyes began watering before he began crying as well while David ran back across the room to tend to his little brother...temporarily abandoning Linda.. who stood still wailing in the doorway........ At the end of the hall in the bathroom, Lorraine had just finished dressing for the day and took a quick second to splash some cool water on her face before joining her children and attempting to deal with the rapidly escalating chaos that was making an almost daily appearance in her home...or rather what was left of it. After the funeral it had quickly become apparent that she would have to find a job and fast. That was something that she was more than willing to do , and was something that her and George had discussed her doing as soon as Marty was in school full-time. But the urgency for it increased significantly after he died as suddenly there was no income to keep them afloat. Lorraine knew about the life insurance policy that he had taken out just the year before which would've helped pay the bills while she looked for work...and would've given her some breathing room. But after tearing apart the house it was nowhere to be found....which meant the bank account had been depleted to almost nothing after paying for the funeral, buying groceries , and paying the mortgage for the month. Almost immediately she had to begin looking ,but after following every lead in the help wanted section of the paper finding a job was a lot easier said than done...it didn't seem like anyone was hiring. Lorraine had filled out a lot of applications...talked to people...knocked on doors but it seemed that to even those that showed any interest it never went further than an introduction. It was only by chance that one evening a very despondent Lorraine had dug a few dollars out of her purse and despite money being tight had taken the kids to Burger King, feeling that they deserved some kind of treat after everything they had been through recently. It had been just enough to buy three small milkshakes and while they stood in line to pay she had the good fortune to witness a teenager throw his apron on the counter and quit on the spot. After asking to speak to the manager he agreed to hire Lorraine...but only if she could start right then as he was without help. With no other prospects for work she had no choice but to accept...but with no babysitter not to mention the funds to pay for one that meant that the Mcfly children had to occupy themselves in a nearby booth while their mother ran back and forth between the cash register and the deep fryer, pausing only to bring them placemats and crayons to keep busy. It also meant that in an attempt to keep them from drowning financially Lorraine was constantly having to work without a day off, and instead of being able to spend time with her children , and help them through the sudden loss of their father they were being shuttled around nonstop . Every day it was an exhausting cycle . The four of them would wake up , run around getting ready and go off to school and work. Then someone would pick up the Mcfly kids and it was off to Grandma Stella's small apartment or they would have to sit in a booth and keep quiet while Lorraine slaved behind the counter at Burger King. The weekends were worse as she would often work double shifts and if noone could babysit that meant Dave , Linda and Marty had to accompany her to work and stay , sometimes falling asleep while waiting for their mother to close up. Then they would pile into the car and start all over the next day. Their constant presence was increasingly becoming a problem for Lorraine's boss who was somewhat sympathetic but pointed out it was a place of business...not a daycare. It didn't help that she was often late for work, and had to leave on her break to pick them up when someone else couldn't...which meant she was late coming back more times than not .Lorraine glanced at the clock on the wall taking note of the time, as she tripped over Marty's lost shoe stooping to pick it up and making her way to the kitchen as she scooped up her still wailing son and tried to soothe him while balancing him on the countertop and put it on his other foot. Shifting him onto her hip she kissed the four year old's hot forehead and shushed him while rubbing his back. Before long he began to calm down , alternating between hiccups and sniffles as Linda stood there tears still streaming down her face. She took a deep breath..on the verge of tears herself while attempting to take control of the situation. " David help your sister find her hairbrush , Linda, sweetheart take a deep breath and let it out slowly , Marty stop sucking your thumb ...big boys don't do that" she said instructing the three of them rapidly as her oldest located and handed his sister the requested item . " Hurry up children we're running late again " she continued as they left the house and got into the car with David pausing only to get the mail from the mailbox that still sat from the day before and hand it to his mother before joining her in the front seat. After making sure noone forgot anything the small family took off and after dropping the three of them off Lorraine pulled into work with about a minute to spare. Grateful that after the chaotic morning they had that she was on time for once , the woman took a second to quickly check her reflection, choosing to ignore the burning in her eyes from the lack of sleep she was getting before exiting the car leaving the mail sitting on the passenger seat as one of the envelopes from Hill Valley Mortage fell beneath the seat........ Biff sat in his home office with a glass of scotch pondering his next move . It wasn't all that surprising that he hadn't heard from Lorraine or seen her since he had shown up at her house the day of the funeral...but he was somewhat amused at how stubborn she could be.About a week prior , Foley's private investigator finally turned up with a thick package. It had taken more time than he wanted but it had been more than worth it...considering how much money it cost him. There had been ample material to work with. Bank account numbers ...falsified federal documents , social security numbers.... with each page that the millionaire went through it got better and better ...and was sure some of it he wouldn't even need..but better to have too much than not enough. The police captain , despite his assistance was becoming something of an annoyance and was beginning to badger him about adding another payment in addition to their agreed upon fee... considering all of the leg work he was doing but there was still no suspect in the Mcfly murder case..the policeman assured him that he had someone in mind but wouldn't pull the trigger until he had cash in hand. Biff reluctantly agreed but told him not to push his luck...and that he would pull this off with or without his help. After all he sure that he had everything needed for Lorraine to finally come around. Biff had developed a strategy that served him well in the business world, and was certain that it would apply to this as well. Get rid of all competition...move all obstacles out of the way. Keep your eye on the prize.Make an offer they can't refuse and walk away; let them come to you. Most importantly know what you want and stop at nothing to get it.The biggest and most difficult obstacle had been dealt with..all that was left was strategizing which of the smaller ones to move around and how. Shuffling through a couple of pages Biff arched an eyebrow as he scanned through it...frankly surprised at the bit of news. He hadn't expected Lorraine to find work so quickly... considering repeated assurances that it would be difficult for her to do so...but from the looks of things she was burning a candle at both ends. There was no way Lorraine would be able to keep this up forever...and that was if everything was going smoothly for her.A smirk slid across his face as he made up his mind on his next move...confident that it would be much easier to achieve his goal than he first anticipated...... Friday April 20 1973a 5pm... Lorraine had finished mopping the floor as her shift for the day finally came to a close ...pausing to get her schedule for the upcoming week from the manager...Mr Hadley. A frown crossed her face as she looked it over ; the disappointment the woman felt must've been obvious as her boss spoke up before she could give voice to the thoughts that ran through her mind...and what this would mean to her family. " I know it's not as many hours " he was saying. " But I had to hire someone else to fill in the holes when you can't work ... I still gave you overtime...just not as much."Though the disappointment and slight panic was evident on her face the man continued speaking .." I have to be fair Lorraine...look at it this way...you can't work all the time and this way you can be home more....I'll see you on Monday." " Monday" ?she repeated..." but I'm supposed to work overtime tomorrow. " " That's one of the changes I made " Mr Hadley replied. " Its cheaper to pay someone else to work straight time than it is to pay constant overtime. " Knowing that her boss was right ,and to say anything else would be futile Lorraine took a deep breath forcing herself to stay calm choosing instead to glance at her watch and reluctantly bid the manager good night, not wanting to be late picking the children up from her mother's...who she had been relying on far too much as of late. After punching out and heading for the parking lot Lorraine stopped dead in her tracks , once again dangerously close to tears upon seeing two flat tires on the back of her car. Taking a minute to massage her already aching head Lorraine dug through her purse to find coins for a nearby payphone to call her mother when she heard a familiar male voice speak up behind her. " Having car trouble "? She turned in surprise to the direction of the sound to see Biff standing about ten feet away from where she stood , eyebrows raised...just the sound of the words aloud made her stomach clench at what the added expense would do to her budget ..already stretched to the limit. Nodding slightly she found her voice..." What are you doing here this time of day"? The man started walking until he was at her side . " I had some business in town and saw you come out to your car."he said unoffended at the abruptness in her voice. " Come on I'll give you a ride and call a tow truck for you." Lorraine hesitated...unsure of whether or not to accept his offer. It had been a long time since she had been in a car alone with Biff...not since high-school .But she was fighting exhaustion , her feet were aching , and the last thing she wanted was to trouble her mother for a ride or try to find one elsewhere or catch a bus.Reminding herself of just how long it had been since high-school and that they were now both adults she began following Biff who had already started walking toward his car. Starting to relax a little, any apprehension that Lorraine had lost ramped up again at the sight of it...not the company car that he usually had at his disposal.. but a 46 Ford convertible...exactly like the one he had in high-school....which meant with no driver it was just going to be the two of them.. " It took me a long time to track it down ... It was in the shop for about a year but I finally picked it up today" he said proudly opening the passenger door for her as she stood there gawking." You mean...this is the one you used to have "? She asked the realization dawning on her that it was not a replica...but the very car that he drove around as a teenager. He nodded ..grinning broadly as Lorraine hesitantly got in and he closed the door behind her and went around to the drivers side and got in himself. " I wanted it to be exactly the same ...except for one thing " he said ...gesturing to the car phone he had installed picking it up and dialing a number on the back of a card he had pulled out of his wallet. After requesting a tow truck and telling the person on the other end to put it on his credit card Biff started the car and pulled into the road. They hadn't been driving long...perhaps only a couple of minutes when Lorraine spoke up..." I'm not sure how to pay you back for all of this ...but I will...but it's going to take awhile " she said wanting to head off any potential expectations..if there were any. She was still undecided as to why Biff was doing all of this ...but just in case felt it had to be said...considering their history. " Don't worry about it " he said...waving his hand as if swatting a fly " It's no problem...but if you need money Lorraine...all you gotta do is ask." " No that's quite alright Biff" she said immediately shaking her head..." But thank you...if you change your mind about my paying you back please let me know..." Lorraine was unsure if it was her imagination but a smirk seemed to cross his face at the comment but as quickly as it appeared it was gone....if it had even been there at all. "I'm glad I ran into you ..Lorraine " he was saying , choosing not to respond to that." I've been wanting to check in ... see how your doing ...with everything...but I didn't want to intrude. " " It's been hard."she admitted starting to choke up." I miss George so much...so do the children. " Wiping at her eyes Lorraine felt the businessman's hand on her shoulder giving it a firm squeeze before removing it and putting it back on the steering wheel. Though it felt good to have someone outside the family to care or even ask...she quickly changed the subject ..to the task at hand. But as Lorraine began to give him directions to her mother's apartment it quickly became clear that not only were they going the wrong way ...but Biff seemed to be driving in the opposite direction....towards the outskirts of town. He was seemingly unbothered by this and even as she spoke up to bring it to his attention and ask that he turn around there was no response ...at first. As they continued to drive the town grew gradually out of sight ..Lorraine found herself starting to panic as she looked around ...and saw nothing but woods..becoming very much aware of how far away they were ...from anyone...or anything. In the back of her mind the thought of the two of them alone in that Packard way back in high-school forced itself front and center .Back then, thankfully George came along and saved Lorraine, winning her heart in the process. This time she knew if Biff tried anything...noone would be coming. Inwardly she cursed herself out for accepting the ride in the first place. All she wanted in that moment was to get home to her children. After what seemed like forever he finally spoke, his eyes sliding in her direction, tone neutral. " I want to show you something "was all he had to say. Before long they pulled up to the Lone Pine Ranch. A bulldozer was parked about twenty feet away, several trees had already been cut down...there was a small building...plain and nondescript nearby." This is it " Biff declared parking the car.Lorraine looked around confused. Before she could ask what "it" was he had already answered. " This is where the new plant is going to be." " Biffco's home base....the temporary office is over there" he said gesturing to the building. She looked around taking in the scene before them...somewhat starting to get it...but confused nonetheless that Biff took her all this way to show it to her and was still unsure of where exactly this was going. He reached past her to the glove compartment and produced a flask that smelled of whiskey. Offering it to Lorraine first she stared at it for a couple of beats before minutely shaking her head. Shrugging to himself Biff took a long pull from it before leaning back in his seat. " The divorce was finalized..you know...around the same time George died. Second one in ten years..." "Made me stop and think ...about regrets...never having kids...starting a family. " " I was always too busy living the fast life.Travelling around the world." " Look where it got me..." he continued , a bitter tone to his voice." Living the good life...but noone to share it with".Lorraine, had been watching Biff carefully from the moment she got in the car with him.Obviously he hadn't brought her all this way for no reason and so far had done nothing to indicate that he meant any harm. Thinking perhaps that he just needed someone to talk to she decided to just humor him in the hopes that he would turn around and head back to town sooner rather than later. Besides despite the apprehension she still felt Lorraine was becoming curious in spite of herself." Why didn't you ...have children "? she asked rubbing her eyes tiredly. Biff shrugged taking another swig from the flask." Never took the time..actually it's something I'd like to change..someday.""That's partly why I'm sticking around this time..doing less traveling." "I've got big plans for Hill Valley." "Right now I'm working on getting gambling legalized. That seemed very far fetched to her and didn't seem likely to happen." Why would you even want to do that "?she asked. " It could mean good things for the town" he said. " A lot of jobs...it's already generating interest...it's definitely possible but it might take a few years according to the governor." " What can I say Lorraine.." Biff continued, smiling finally "I'm in the empire business ...but every king needs a queen...but unfortunately I'm without one. It's been tough ...all of a sudden not having a wife ."He set the flask down on the dashboard..taking his right arm and letting it rest on the passenger seat just behind her head , the move unnoticed by her as she sat listening. "But enough about me...how are you holding up "?"It can't be easy holding down a job and having three kids." Lorraine bit her lip. " It's not easy...but I'm doing the best I can." " I just wish I could spend more time with the children.""What about your family" ? Biff asked ." Can't they help"?"They do as much as they can" she answered. " My mother babysits whenever she can..that's where the kids are now." But it's not easy for her since my father died. "And I've been relying on her far too much.""Joey's in jail again..."Sally's getting divorced and is on the other side of the country. " Milton just got drafted...""And Toby's working two jobs just to make ends meet." Biff tapped the steering wheel with his left hand ."Lorraine....it's none of my business "he said slowly. " But you can't possibly keep this up forever. " You can't be making that much money at that job of yours." Your kids need you. It's bad enough they lost their father.""Do you really think you can do all this by yourself "? " I don't know" she said sniffling " But I have to try ...it's what George would have wanted"..." And you're right.." she snapped suddenly " It is none of your business "Why do you even care ? "Oh I'm sorry " Lorraine said starting to cry ." You meant well Biff....but it's just so hard ."I appreciate your concern but you don't need to waste anymore of your time worrying about me." Your busy enough..."Lorraine tried in vain to regain control of her emotions but as the tears began to obstruct her vision she finally let go and began sobbing."We go way back Lorraine..." Biff was saying. "I haven't always shown it but I care what happens to you ." You deserve the best of everything...and you are not a waste of my time" "In fact when Jayne left it got me thinking." he said passing her a silk handkerchief from the pocket of his suit." It was my fault ...both of the marriages ending..... I couldn't see it then but I've had to face up to it.."Lorraine began wiping at her eyes..while taking a deep breath and letting it out slowly as he continued to talk."The truth is there was always someone else on my mind."As the tears finally subsided she could feel something tickling the back of her neck.It took a minute to figure out what it was but after reaching behind her it became clear that the man was playing with her hair. When Lorraine's vision began to clear her swollen eyes revealed that Biff's arm had been around her shoulders the whole time, and he had slid all the way over to her side of the car and they where face to face ...and were so close that she could smell the whiskey on his breath. She backed up as far as humanly possible , her spine pressed up against the window crank." Biff I want you to take me home " she said glancing at the door handle and briefly wondering if it came down to it , how far she could get if she tried to run. His hand on the opposite arm had rested on her leg and his face was neutral ; and she held her breath waiting to see what he would do next..but to her tremendous surprise Biff smiled as he backed away. " No problem " he said easily sliding back over to the drivers side and starting the engine...though once the car was in gear, and after they were on the road , his right arm once again came to rest across the back of her seat." I'm sorry I kept you away for so long Lorraine ". he said. " I've been kinda lonely lately and I guess you could say I needed someone to talk to...feel free to make a call if you need to ." he said gesturing to the car phone. " You know...how I feel about you....I guess I just had to say something...it was bad timing." " It was " she agreed. " But if you're looking for something to happen between us Biff...your in for a long wait...I couldn't love anyone else but George. " " I know" he said " But I meant it when I said I am there for you..and whatever you want to do..." " Maybe " he said. " we could be there for each other." " In fact if you really want to pay me back for calling the tow truck there is one thing you could do...." " Whats that"?she asked warily. Biff smiled again. The board of directors has been trying to do something about Biffco's public image...what with the new plant and all. The problem is it's hard to do considering we're a toxic waste disposal company. So they want to portray us as very family oriented ; and I took a lot of flack what with the divorce and all. It would be good for my image...and the company's if I'm seen with a woman.. not just anyone ..someone family oriented. Who better than Hill Valley's mother of the year. " Lorraine looked at him somewhat skeptically. " I'm sure it would be easy for you to find someone else....just start dating again Biff ...I don't think it'll be a problem. " He snorted at that waving his hand. " Like the actresses and models I used to go out with."? I've been there done that." " All I would ask is when Biffco puts together an event...that occasionally you would join me....believe me it won't be too often. Maybe a dinner and there's talk of doing a company picnic when the new plant opens. "Please think about it Lorraine." She nodded almost to herself...somewhat to placate Biff so there would be no more disruptions and he would just take her back to town already... but was giving it some serious thought. She wasn't stupid...it was clearly a ploy on his part to get them to spend time together. But in the weeks since George had died ... Biff had largely kept his distance. And there they were alone in a car together. In the middle of nowhere. With noone else around. It very easily could've been a repeat of what happened between them at the Enchantment Under the Sea dance..with far worse results. There would've been noone to stop him ...no matter how much Lorraine would've struggled to fight him off she knew what the end result would've been. But surprisingly he respected her wishes enough to take no for an answer..turning around immediately when she asked him to.Was it possible that Biff Tannen had finally grown up? Lorraine wasn't sure ...but one thing she knew was that there would be very little harm in occasionally showing up at a very public event . It might actually be a welcome distraction for the children if there where family oriented outings like a picnic or something of that nature. And with her working all the time...even with the reduced schedule that she was getting it most likely wouldn't be all that often anyway. And Biff had after all taken the time out of his very busy schedule to check in and offer his help at a very difficult time in her life. " I suppose I could do that ....as long as it's only once in a while. " she answered finally." But I have to warn you I don't have very much free time ." The millionaire flashed her a big smile." Great!" I really appreciate it Lorraine...I know your busy so I won't tear you away from anything important..I'll let you know when something gets put together. "He made the turn into the small parking lot where her mother was living and pulled up to the building...parking so she could get out. "Oh and don't worry about your car ...as soon as it's finished I will have someone drive it to your house...hopefully before you have to work again." Lorraine said nothing to that except to thank him for everything...getting out and making her way up the walk .Biff was about to pull away when out of the corner of his eye he saw Mrs Baines appear in the window and rake a very suspicious and disapproving look in the man's direction. She had never cared much for Biff...even when he was a kid and her distaste for him had grown the more he had pursued Lorraine in high-school. He did his best to keep a straight face as he drove away, silently congratulating himself on a job well done. If he had known how easy it was going to be getting Lorraine alone in his car he would've done something like this years ago.It had taken all of his self control to not make the move he had been longing to do....but past experience taught him what hadn't worked. And while he would've thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it...the idea of having access to Lorraine whenever he wanted far outweighed any temporary thrill ...no matter how long he had waited. This plan of his was already getting far better results than he ever could've hoped for. As the businessman drove through town he reflected on his next move and as he drove past the Burger King an idea popped into his head , knowing that things would move a lot faster for him if Lorraine had some free time...not to mention if there happened to be a drop in her income. The tires screeched as he turned around in the middle of the street and he pulled into the parking lot as a man came out of the building and started walking to a white Chevrolet. Parking his car behind the vehicle broadside.. blocking it from pulling out .Biff got out approaching the man as his eyes widened in surprise. " Mr Tannen..." he said swallowing hard as the businessman stood there a menacing look on his face." Can I help you.?" Biff leaned up against the man's car saying nothing..but blocking any potential way out watching as he progressively grew more uncomfortable with each passing minute..finally a smirk crossed his face. " As a matter of fact you can....I'd like to talk to you about one of your employees. " he said reaching into his pocket and pulling out his wallet. " I want to make a deal with you...a profitable one. But I would need your cooperation...and your silence..." " If I find you can't keep a secret...things will not go well for you....."
