Chapter 28: Let's Live Together

Chapter Text

Logan

I opened my eyes sleepily and sighed. I had a short sleep that felt more like a nap. My head was aching, but not too badly, from all the information that I had gathered from Ma's letter that she had written but never sent thirteen years ago. After all these years, I finally found out that she had left us because she didn't want to be a burden.

Burden? You could never be a burden to me, Ma. But now, all I have to remember you by are photographs, this letter, and Lucia, who looks eerily like you, despite not being your biological daughter.

I sat up abruptly. It was then I realised that I had been sleeping on the floor, with a thick quilt as a futon. I turned sideways, and noticed that Lucia had been asleep on her side next to me the whole night. Her messy yet shiny silver hair was sprawled around her like a halo. As I leaned down to take a closer look at her, I saw dried tears on her face.

Oh yeah, she found out she was adopted by Ma just last night, all the while believing that she had a biological bond with her. That's gotta be rough for her. That, and not knowing your real parents. I sighed as I touched her cheek lightly, careful not to wake her.

"Logan... I'm sorry... The letter..." she murmured in her sleep. A small tear slipped from the inner corner of her eye and pooled on the side of her small nose.

I frowned, feeling helpless and annoyed at myself. I didn't need to be psychic to know that she was apologising to me in her sleep for not discovering the letter earlier and sending it out to me. She was just this good of a person, caring for everyone else but herself. Saying sorry for such a non-issue... Are you stupid?

I brushed my lips against her eyelid as lightly as I could, kissing her tear away. She had shed too many tears for me over the past year, and it broke my heart to see her cry every time. "I wanna make ya happy forever," I whispered as I pulled myself away.

"Why do you keep sneaking up on me?" Lucia mumbled blearily, rubbing the sleep away from her eyes. Then she gazed at me through her long lashes with a tender smile.

I smiled back and lay down next to her. "Because yer cute, and I love ya." Then I straightened my face and looked at her seriously. "Ya ain't gotta apologise for anything, Luce. Readin' the letter thirteen years ago and readin' it now makes no difference, okay?" I told her.

She widened her eyes. "Huh? How did you..."

I pinched her nose between my index and middle fingers on the same hand. "'Course I know. That's the kind of person Ma raised ya to be. Though if I'd known back then that I have such a cute little sister, I would've gone to look for ya."

"I'm not your sister though," she said as she wrinkled her nose and rubbed the tip with her finger.

I raised an eyebrow. "Now yer changin' yer tune? Ya kept sayin' I'm your brother up until last week," I reminded her.

"Yeah, but in the letter, Ma wrote that I was adopted." She pinched my cheek and tugged on it. It seemed that it was her new favourite thing to do recently, making my jowls pink.

It was my turn to widen my eyes. "Oh... Oh!" I grinned and kissed her deeply on her lips, pushing her onto her back in the process. I had totally forgotten that even though Lucia was adopted by Ma, she wasn't related to me by blood. I could feel my body heat up at this new revelation.

Her cheeks and neck were tinted bright pink when I pulled away. She averted her eyes away from me in embarrassment. She looked so adorable that I wanted to kiss her again, but I had to resist the urge. "Now I wish we knew about the letter all those months ago so we could save on the tears and heartache," I told her jokingly.

"You're such an idiot," she said, but pursed her lips tightly to stop herself from smiling. She pushed past me and sat up to stretch her arms.

I propped myself up on my elbows as I watched her. She got up on her knees and started browsing through the keepsake box again, using the sofa as a table. We'd stopped after reading the letter because our emotions overwhelmed us, but now she was at it again.

"What're ya lookin' for?" I asked, curious.

Lucia threw a glance over her shoulder at me. "I don't know... A note? A letter? Anything to tell me about myself." Then she sighed and turned to face me. "Do you not think it's weird that I have estrous cycles? Normal girls don't have them. Didn't you learn about human biology in school?"

I shrugged. "I dropped outta school at sixteen. Always preferred bein' out in the desert to stayin' indoors. And my interactions with the opposite sex were usually with Heidi during our childhood, and..." I trailed off, realising I had just dug a hole for myself right then.

"And what?" she asked, narrowing her eyes at me suspiciously.

I covered my face with my hands and groaned. "Ya really wanna know?"

"Of course. I won't get angry if you've had girlfriends before me," she replied matter-of-factly. I heard her dig through the metal box again.

I removed my hands and cleared my throat. "Yer my first gal, y'know. But..." I heaved a big sigh. My chest felt a little heavy at the topic, as it wasn't exactly something to tell other people, let alone a lover. And yet, I shovelled myself into a hole I can't get out of.

Lucia placed everything back down into the box and shifted her entire body around. "Oh my goodness! Spit it out before I get mad!" she said, sandwiching my face between her hands. The frown on her face was beginning to deepen with anger.

"The ladies at the brothel in a village a hundred miles south from here," I responded mechanically, prompted by her authoritative voice.

Her eyes became the size of dinner plates. "Seriously?"

"Look, I haven't told a lie to ya before; I ain't gonna start now." I took her hands into mine and gave them a little squeeze. "I-I'm sorry, Luce. I –"

"What are you sorry for?" she asked in a slightly demanding tone, cutting me off.

I was confused. Her question caught me off guard and threw me off the loop. "Uh... Ain't ya disappointed?"

She pouted and looked away from me. "A little, but that was before we knew each other, right? So." She pulled her hands from mine, leaving me feeling a little lonely. I had begun cursing my past self when suddenly, she grabbed me over my boxers between my legs and gave me a tight squeeze.

My heart almost ceased working from the jumpscare. "Luce!"

She smiled, seemingly enjoying the way I was squirming. "You said this is mine, right? So you can't use it on anyone else except me, okay?" she said in an eerily gentle voice.

"Y-yes! I swear!" I nodded frantically. The way she gripped my dick was torturous.

After what felt like forever, she finally let go of me, her face still plastered with the same smile. She leaned forward and brushed her lips against mine in a featherlight kiss. "I love you, Logan."

I wrapped an arm around her back and pulled her towards me as I pressed my other hand against my scrotum to soothe my genitals. "Ya love me too much..." I grumbled as we fell back onto the quilt together.

She let out a high-pitched yelp in surprise as I nuzzled my face and grazed my unshaved chin against her neck. "Let me go, you cactus!" she exclaimed, before bursting into a fit of giggles.

Just then, I heard the stairs creak. "Luce? Are ya in trouble?" Andy called out in his sleepy voice. He walked down to the living room, where Lucia and I were in a compromising position on the floor.

I stared at him, my view upside down, still holding onto Lucia as she lay on top of me. Her eyes were also on him, looking slightly mortified. "Hey, kiddo," I croaked out awkwardly.

"Logan? Didja sleep over too? Shoulda woken me up last night so we could go home," he mumbled, before letting out a big yawn. "I thought there was an intruder with the way Luce was screaming just now."

"Sorry for being too loud, Andy. Do you wanna go back to bed? Or should we all get up? I'll make breakfast," she said, her voice now tender. She tried to peel herself away from me, but I held her tightly against my torso. She also tried wriggling her way out, but soon relented when I refused to budge.

He rubbed the sleep away from his adorably big red eyes and grinned. Then he walked over to us and threw himself on top of Lucia, practically knocking the air out of my lungs. "Ugh! It's too early for a dogpile!" I cried out.

He laughed out loud as she shrieked, while I tried to breathe. The two-person pile on top of me fell over shortly after and filled the whole house with their laughter. Despite them being so loud that my ears were starting to hurt, the atmosphere in the room was full of bliss and love. Finally, this house that used to be just a house, now felt like home.

After a while, when their laughter had quietened down, I looked at Lucia and brushed her messy hair away from her face. "Luce, let's live together, the three of us."
