Chapter Text

One of the darkest days of the digidestined was the day Angemon died, yet at the same time it was one of their brightest days as there was someone new to welcome to the group.

It was an event not even Homeostasis nor any other god could have predicted, it was an occurrence that broke the innate laws of the digital world. There are innate rules in every world like for the human world there is the law of gravity and the law of decay among others, for the digital world the rules are different but they have some, the rules of digivolution, or rules of rebirth.

The rules broken on that day had never been bent or broken before or since, unlike with digivolution when Homeostasis created the digivices and crests to bend the rules of digivolution, the rules of rebirth were believed to be unchangeable even to the gods, yet instead of returning to primary village Angemon returned to Takeru immediately, instead of returning alone he returned as a pair along with the one he killed, it even broke the rule where only one digimon per egg.

How did this happen? Why did this happen? No one quite knows there are some theories but perhaps it will just be one of those unsolved mysteries forever.

But that isn’t important. The really curious part happened soon thereafter, for some reason an unexpected rule got broken because of this occurrence, for some unexplained reason the second digimon was also bonded to Takerus digivice. Homeostasis who created the digivices didn’t think this was possible, didn't make it possible for a digivice to bond to multiple digimon, only made it possible for one digimon and one human, yet this still happened.

But that is enough of that, let's get into the actual story…

Now where to start? I could start at the very beginning but then it would take too long to get to the interesting parts. I guess we should start at the last confrontation with Devimon then.

Leomon had just finished telling the 5 digidestined present about their role in this world and the digivices and was guiding them up the mountain, leaving them with one last warning. “Devimon is very powerful, he’s brought nothing but trouble to file island. You must be careful”

Meanwhile devimon was preparing for the last battle with the digidestined.

“Perfect, that traitor Leomon is leading them directly into my trap. He’s been very valuable to me” Devimon said

Ogremon annoyed the complements to Leomon “I guess so but i’m loyal and better looking”

“Listen to me! You are going to pay them one final visit” Ogremon began to look worried at what devimon was saying “Ready?” Not waiting for an answer he grabbed Ogremon by the neck and turned him into black gears

“Hear this digidestined, my power is infinite! Your hopes and dreams are useless. I am the supreme master of this island, if you dare defy me I will unleash the powers of the universe and conquer you. You can’t escape.” Devimon yelled while absorbing the black gears from all across the island.

Sora and Joe were crossing the sky and sea riding Birdramon and Ikkakumon to get back to Infinity mountain. “Oh no what is that?” Sora exclaimed. “Big trouble is brewing, we had better get ready for action” Birdramon responded. “Black gear!” Joe yelled seeing the black gears flying towards infinity mountain. “This is going to be the big one Joe, it’s time to show your true self” Ikkakumon encouraged.

The temple that Devimon resided in began to shake, and these shakes grew to tremors that spread across the island creating a grand earthquake almost knocking over Leomon and the Digidestined. When suddenly Devimon broke through the roof of the temple breaking it into tiny fragments of stone. “What in the world is that!” Mimi yelled, “It must be Devimon” Tai responded. “I didn’t expect him to be so big” said Palmon “Bad guys always seem to think bigger is better” Izzy responded, “fraid not, the power Devimon possess is immense so be careful” Leomon warned.

Devimon lept from the ruins of the mountaintop temple, flying down to the base of the mountain where the digidestined were. “He’s here, Agumon, you need to digivolve!” Tai yelled, then devimon turned to face them, his giant wings creating winds only Leomon could withstand, throwing all the digimon into the nearby cliff. “You are fools” Devimon yelled while hitting the digidestined with Demon’s Ray “Don’t expect me to play silly games with you I’m far too wise for that”.

As all the digidestined writhed and screamed in pain under the Demon’s Ray, Ikakumon arrived and nailed Devimon in the side with multiple Harpoon Torpedoes, breaking Devimon’s focus on his attack. “Bullseye Ikkakumon” Joe said, just before Birdramon hits Devimon with a Meteor Wing. “Come on everybody there is no time to wait, we have to strike now” Sora yelled.

With that the digimon of the digidestined digivolved to fight back, Agumon digivolved to Greymon, Gabumon to Garurumon, Tentomon to Kabuterimon, and Palmon to Togemon.

Greymon immediately struck with a Nova Blast that had no visible effect, followed up by Garurumon’s Howling Blaster. Garurumon then tried to bite and stay on Devimons arm before he was thrown off into Greymon. “You’ll have to try harder than that!” Devimon yelled

As Greymon and Garurumon went down Kabuterimon took to the sky and tried to hit Devimon with a Electro Shocker while Togemon tried to land a Needle Spray, neither of which had any affect other than annoying Devimon who swatted Kabutreimon out of the sky and knocked Togemon off of the cliff.

Leomon took the opening to strike while Devimon’s back was turned, and as he was about to strike with his Fist of the Beast King Ogremon popped out of Devimon’s back and struck the shocked Leomon with a Pummel Whack sending him into the treeline.

Meanwhile Devimon had grabbed Birdramon from the air and threw her at Greymon who was beginning to recover from the first attack pushing them both off of the ledge.

Devimon began to reach for Ikkakumon who tried to strike back with Harpoon Torpedoes but had no effect. Devimon picked him up and threw him into Kabuterimon who was charging another Electro Shocker, sending them both crashing into the ground.

Devimon turned towards TK and Patamon yelling “Now to get rid of you! Then i’ll have nothing to fear, they say the youngest will defeat me”

As Devimon reached for TK the other digimon force themselves up to hold Devimon back, with Garurumon biting down on Devimons arm to stop him from taking TK, Greymon crunching Devimon’s leg, Birdramon clawing at his eyes, with Ikkakumon holding the other leg and, Kabuterimon grappling the other arm. Yet it was futile with Devimon releasing a burst of energy much like the energy form Demon’s ray sending all the digimon and digidestined flying and draining all of their energy.

Devimon again reached for TK and this time Patamon jumped to his defence with a Boom bubble which had no effect. “Patamon help me” TK cried, but it was futile as Patamon was filled with frustration that he couldn’t do anything that he couldn’t digivolve or fight or protect. But still “I’ll save you TK.” He promised, diving towards him as Devimon closed his hand around them both.

As the hand closed around the pair light began to shine from inside the fist, bright shining like a lone star in the dark of the night, shining bright enough to be seen even though the heavens of clouds, or the brightest of auroras. From that light an angel appeared swathed in the light carrying a golden staff with 6 white wings like those of a dove yet large enough for a man. He was wearing a helmet that covered his eyes, golden hair spilling out the back, body clad pure white cloth with long blue ribbons wrapping his arms and legs.

The light hurt Devimon forcing him to release Angemon who rose into the sky still radiating light. “The forces of good are more powerful that you realize brother, I’ll defeat you and make you redeem yourself” Angemon said while drawing in the power of the digivices, causing the other digimon to degenerate to rookie forms. Angemon took the light of the digivices and began to channel it into his staff. “You fool, you will have to fight me to do that, I’ll kill you” Devimon yelled. “I am afraid I have no other choice, if I can help others my fate is unimportant. Your power has gotten out of control and must be redeemed.” As Angemon was talking Ogremon tried to surprise him by popping out of nowhere and attacking, yet was immediately repelled by Angmon’s Celestial Rod throwing him across the sea. “I am willing to fight for peace” Angmon continued absorbing the power of his staff into his right arm. “Be careful,” TK yelled, hoping that Angemon doesn’t get hurt. “Don’t worry I’ll get him” Angemon assures TK not knowing that wasn’t what TK was concerned about. With that Angemon struck Devimon in the chest with Hand of Fate creating a burst of light so bright it covered the entire island and was visible from the other side of the sea.

As the light faded Devimon and Angemon were fading into particles flying into the sky. “That was foolish Angemon, you have used up all of your power now you are not of use to anyone, you can’t protect your partner evil is everywhere this victory won’t last.” Devimon said his legs fading away. “There are other digimon out there, some as dangerous as I am, others more so. I wonder what will happen when you run into them” Devimon’s body was almost entirely gone the mark of evil on his chest was beginning to fade, when “If you are so worried why not join us?” Angemon proposed. At that Devimon laughed until he faded from existence yet some of the darkness falling from him floated towards Angemon.

“Angemon!” TK cried

“If you really want me to return I will return every time.” With that he began to fade leaving only a handful of feathers some white some black. Before long they joined into an egg white in color with horizontal stripes of yellow and streaks of blood red on it. It was larger than any other seen in the world but none commented on it as it was the first many of them had seen so it was assumed normal, TK the only one who knew it was unusual but even he was unsure and too shocked by the death of his partner to think, speak, or move. As his senses returned he began to cradle the egg. Rubbing it just like those of the Primary village.

This was the beginning of what I spoke of, a series of events no person or god could have predicted. It was unbelievable, an angel and a devil joining hands, particularly an angemon and a devimon. For context devimons are angmons that became corrupted by darkness and angemons see them as the greatest enemies that can be encountered yet one extended their hand in redemption and a devimon accepted.

The others began to recover from the fight and all that had just occurred and approached TK when a beam of rainbow light began to shine into the sky. In the light an old man in red robes appeared, his white hair in a ponytail, a bushy mustache and eyes barely open. “I am gennai, you must be the digidestined” he said “you must be powerful to have defeated Devimon, but he is not the only evil you must defeat, you must journey to the Server continent, find your tags and crests, learn to digivolve further and save the digital world.”

“But what are you?” Izzy asked “What do you mean digivolve further? What are the tags and crests?” “Did you bring us here?” Mimi interrupted

“I didn’t bring you here. And I am a friend to all, and a friend to none, I have been here from before the start and after the end. I can’t answer all your questions because I don’t know the answers or don’t have the time. I must go now, come to Server, defeat evil. I have faith in you the digidestined. One last thing Izzy, you will find a Map on your computer.” Having said his piece the rainbow beam disappeared leaving the digidestined confused.

The digidestined hiked down the mountain to Primary village, TK never once let the egg. Tai took the lead with Joe bringing up the rear. They traveled down in silence all lost in thought as to what had occurred in the last less than an hour, at least in their minds yet they climbed this mountain the moon had not yet begun to set and as they reached the base of the mountain the sun was already climbing close to its climax.

Upon arriving at the Primary village they were greeted by Elecmon who immediately noticed the digiegg that TK was carrying. “That’s one odd digiegg kid, where did you find it? And where is Patamon? Wait no is that him? But why is it so large? And that coloring it’s something I’ve never seen before in all my time trending my babies” Elecmon’s questions were only answered with a nod and nothing else, none of them were ready to properly face what had happened, some wouldn’t for years to come.

Izzy took the downtime to look at the map Gennai had sent to his computer. On the map File island was tiny, almost like a dot in comparison to Server, not to mention according to the scale it was almost 500 miles away.

“Guys I know we are still deliberating on whether or not to go to Server but I am unsure if it is even possible to reach the continent, it’s over a 1000 miles away.” Izzy said, breaking the silence.

“Ikkakumon and birdramon definitely can’t go that far,” Sora stated.

“Then we have to make a boat, we can do this” Tai responded

“It's 1000 Miles! We‘ll never make it” Matt exclaimed

“Do we even have to go?” Joe raised the question cautiously as if he could be smited for even questioning it. “I mean seriously we have food and water here, we know the island and have friends here, I know rescue is improbable at this point but we are risking our lives if we go, we couldn’t beat devimon and we know there are stronger monsters on that continent, why risk it?”

“But if we don't go we won’t ever get back home!” Tai exclaimed

“But devimon was more powerful than all of us and at least we know what we are fighting here” sora replied glumly

“Maybe it would be best to wait for Patamon to recover before we go to Server.” Matt said

“Let’s go to Server” TK stated “Angemon would want us to go and its important to stop evil, so I’m going, even if I have to go alone”

“I think we should go too” Agumon stepped forwards “If we get the tags and crests it won’t matter if there is more danger we can digivolve further and fight back”

The digimon turned to their partners and began to try to convince them like Agumon did. The first to agree was Matt, followed quickly by Sora, Joe, and Mimi, Izzy had needed no convincing and Tai was the first to say that they should go.

The decision was unanimous. All that was left was figuring out how to get there. Tai brought up the ice bridge that Frigimon made for them, but that got shot down by the entire group, as they didn’t know where Frigimon was nor did they think he could go that far. Izzy brought up Ikkakumon but Joe and Gomamon objected stating they couldn't go that far Sora and Biyomon said the same of Birdramon. TK brought the boat idea back up and as the group had no better ideas they began the trek to the nearby shore to begin planning the raft they would build.

They quickly ran into an issue: they couldn’t cut down any trees effectively, nor did they know what food would keep for the trip which Izzy had estimated would take at minimum of 3 weeks but most likely about a month. But just when they began to puzzle out how to solve these issues help arrived, Leomon helped them cut down the trees they needed, Meramon removed the branches and smoothed them for the raft, Elecmon, Centauromon, Mojyamon and, Frigimon helped them gather food that would last them the journey, Andromon helped build the raft with his extensive knowledge, Monzeamon offered a blanket for the sail, and the Yokomon helped where they could. All in all the process was faster than the digidestined were expecting, finishing around sundown rather than the week they had expected. They chose to set off in the morning. The next morning the Digidestined had all woken up just before dawn when as the sun rose something miraculous happened, the moon had begun to eclipse the sun as it begun to rise casting part of the sky in darkness and part in the full light of the sun, at the same time a wonderful something occurred, the digiegg began to hatch, both in the light of the sun and shadow of the new moon, Zurumon and Poyomon.
