Echoes of the Past

Chapter 8: 8

Summary:

What you have all been waiting for

Chapter Text

The next morning he wakes having made a decision. For a long time, he has been struggling with his relationship with Geneva. The sweet lass he first started dating and invited to move in with him, has changed.

Her jealousy, that at first he thought was kinda sweet, is now unbearable. He can do nothing without her believing he was seeing someone else. It is something he can no longer ignore or deal with. No, it is past time to end it.

His mind made up, he stands and walks out into the living room. She is sitting on the edge of the couch. Her eyes are heavy and it is obvious that she didn't sleep well.

“Geneva, this isn't working.”

“No, it isn't. You must leave this new job. I can't have you working with someone who you are attracted to.”

He is startled into a laugh. She stares at him, her eyes blazing.

“Christ Alive!” He is laughing too hard to finish and has to grab ahold of the side of the couch to hold himself up. After catching his breath, he is able to finish talking, “You and I. We are done.”

“What!” She screeches out and he has to struggle not to burst into laughter again.

“This has been building for a while. You know it. I know it. I have never cheated on you. Never wanted to. You can't accept this. I can no longer live with someone who doesn't trust me and,” he sighs, “who I can no longer trust. For I know what I am doing and not doing. This extreme jealousy has to come from somewhere.”

“So you are screwing her or what?”

Another deep sigh. “You have to move out. I am going to stay with Jenny and Ian for a week. When I return, you need to be gone.”

“Wait! Wait! Okay, okay, I was wrong. You aren't sleeping with her.”

He ignores her, heading into his room, shutting and locking the door before dressing for the day. Afterwards, he comes out to find her sitting in the same place, staring at her hands.

“I will be here this evening to pick up some clothes. Don't be here.”

He walks out.
