Fragments of the same Soul

Summary:

The Anomaly. He shouldn’t be here- and where are ekko and heimerdinger?! Why awake in his and Viktors lab when he was just glitching and being torn apart by the anomaly just moments ago?

Or, what if instead of Jayce ending up in the alternative, ruined future version of Piltover, he travelled to the Game-Canon League of Legends Universe and swapped body's with Jayce Giopara?

Notes:

Aghh hii another fic !! I literally wrote this in School lol

Chapter Text

Jayce felt dizzy as he woke up from his slumber. It almost felt like a normal morning.

almost.

Everything felt normal, at first. The lighs shone through the curtains, birds were chirping and if one listened closely, you could hear the faint voices of early risers on their way to work.

So when his eyes cleared up and he let himself wake up properly, he didn’t question anything at first.
He woke up in his lab. This was a normal occurrence these days, ever since Viktor left Jayce couldn’t bring himself to leave it. He had to be there, in case Viktor changed his mind- In case he came back to him. Jayce had to be there, to welcome him with open arms and to beg on his knees for forgiveness.

he hates that its an if and not a when.

The only time he left their lab was when his mother, sick with worry told him to go home with her to eat something and have a Shower- and who was he to refuse his Mother? He felt guilty, seeing her worried expression. He should apologize to her too. Besides that, the only other time was when Heimerdinger and- Ekko, was it? Came to him to inspect the hexgates

Wait.

Suddenly everything came flooding back to him.

The Anomaly. He shouldn’t be here- and where are ekko and heimerdinger?! Why awake in his and Viktors lab when he was just glitching and being torn apart by the anomaly just moments ago?

“Okay, stay calm Jayce. You're a Scientist. Surely you can make sense of this..” he muttered to himself. For the first time since waking up he let himself stand up to study the room. When he took a step forward he almost tripped, he looked down to find a handful of empty alcohol bottles on the ground. Strange, he thought. While he may enjoy a glass or two he never drank in the lab. Much less to this extend.

Now to start he had two conclusions: either hes in a different reality or he traveled in time forward.

He let himself wander through the lab, eyes searching for any clues. He quickly realized that while the lab was almost identical to theirs, all trace of Viktor was gone. Does that mean that if he really traveled in time forward, that he and Viktor never got back together again? That he moved on?… but based on the empty flasks on the ground he is to believe differently. The thought terrifies him as he gulps to continue his inspection. When he looked to his left, on the wall he saw a hammer. Almost identical to his mercury hammer, he walked towards it to inspect the craftsmanship.

“No doubt something that i created.” He muttered while studying the hammer while letting out a chuckle. “It functions in the same way than mine, only the colours are different.” He frowns while thinking.
He then turned around to see a small mirror installed at the wall, typical, he thought and walked towards it with a smile.

Now what he found looking back at him in his reflection was expected and unexpected at the same time. At least that proves the theory of being in an entire different universe. Now what was looking back at him in the mirror- its save to say it was him. Except that he looked a bit- different.
For the start his eyes were shining bright blue when before they were hazel, he had gray strands at the sides of his gelled back hair, he asked himself if this version of him is older than himself or if they’re due to stress. Also his Skin colour is brighter than it was before. Otherwise, much in contrast to the messy lab, his appearance was surprisingly clean. His face is shaved cleanly, with a 9’o clock shadow decorating his face. His hair as earlier mentioned— gelled back with not a single strand intact. All in all he looked fine- not too different from his normal self, anyway.

“If this really is a different reality i have to find Viktor.” He thinks. “If i am here then Viktor must be here too. Except-“ he gulps, a sudden fear coiling in his stomach and then shakes his head as he studies the lab, still no trace of Viktor inside. “No- no. It cant be, maybe we just haven’t met yet. That must be it… regardless i have to find him.”  Jayce pauses for a Moment before walking over to the blackboard and studying the formulas. “So hextech is a thing here too.” He thinks, this is good. Otherwise he’d have a huge problem going back home. He then inspects the blackboard further and notices that there is something behind it- he makes quick work of it, the blackboard is easy to move away. Almost as if its regularly being moved.

Jayce wasn’t quite sure what he was looking at. He was correct, for one part. What is standing in front of him was a comically large pin-wall of torn out newspaper pages, wanted posters and some, no, a lot of hand drawn Pictures and Portraits. All of the same Man?- Person?- Robot? Whatever it is. There was a red thread connecting everything. Jayce would think that it was cool, something alike those detective works that they talk about in all the books he's read as a Child, if it only didn't also seem so obsessive.
He read some if the thickly printed newspaper lines. “The Machine Herald”, it said. He supposed thats the name of the Robot-Person.

Jayce was for one, confused. He felt strangely about this. He never heard about anyone called “The Machine Herald” before in his reality. Was this Person, he assumes, a thread to Piltover? Were they a Chem-baron? No.. the newspapers say nothing about a Chem-Baron- or them being a genuine threat. Jayce pinches the bridge of his nose. Now he was really confused.
He pushes this matter into the back of his head. He could find out more about this Robo-Person later. His first priority is finding Viktor. He then puts the Blackboard back to its original Place, if it was hidden in first Place he assumes it was not meant to be seen by anyone else. Well, he’s technically not a different Person if he’s the alternate self of this Jayce, right?

Then, he almost didn't see it- something catches his eye. In between blueprints, safely hidden, lies a crutch.
“No..” Jayce says while running over and fishing it out from in between the blueprints.  Knocking some over in the progress. The crutch was brocken in half. Jayce holds both Parts in his hands and feels the panic slowly consuming him, heart beating frantically as his eyes start tearing up. He recognised the Crutch, he literally made it himself for fucks sake! Its the exact same one he made for Viktor back when they cracked hextech- a gift of newborn Partnership and a replacement for the old crutch that brocke during their breakthrough. The craftsmanship and even the colours are undoubtedly the same. This had to be Viktors, and this Jayce had made it for him.
Jayce scanned the ground, catching on the blueprints lying chaotically on the ground. One catches his attention and he carefully sat both pieces of the crutch beside him to take the blueprint into his hands and take a better look at it. It was a blueprint of a brand new Crutch, its exact same model as the one that lays brokenly on the ground.

”So he tried to replace it..” Jayce figures, yet there was no sign of this Project being nowhere near completed. There was only this single blueprint. Nothing else. Did the other me abandon this? But why the fuck would he do that?! Or did he finish it and Viktor already has the finished product? But why was the Crutch Brocken in first place?? Jayce sits there on the ground, frantically searching for answers he does not have. “What the hell happened?!” He whined into his hands. He sat there on the ground, questioning everything that might’ve happened, until a knock snaps him out of his trance.

“Jayce!” Another two knocks follow “you didnt show up, again!”

Jayce winced, was this Caitlyn? It sounded like her. He really hoped it was. Another familiar face would be really comforting right now, and since he apparently does know Viktor in this reality- its only logical that Caitlyn would know him too, right? He should ask her about him.

“Jayce i know you’re in there! Open up!” Another three knocks follow and Jayce quickly fixed himself up and went to open the door.

What greeted him was a very angry Caitlyn- was it bad that he felt comforted by seeing her face? She looked older, and was wearing a hat.

”Hi, Cait.” He grimaced.

“Jayce,” Caitlyn started, “You promised me you’d be at the meeting today, yet here i am, waiting for you to arrive, and of course you skipped again! It was importand, Jayce!”

Jayce gulped “Yeah, sorry cait. I had a long night and kind of forgot the time..” not a lie, exactly. He didn't even know if time functions the same way here as it does in his reality! although based on the big clock hanging on the wall, that was likely not the situation here.

Caitlyn took a glimpse into the lab and her expression shortly cracked into one of worry. “Wait- did you drink again?” She asked, while letting herself into the lab and putting the empty bottles away.

”uhm..” Jayce didn’t know how to answer that, so he simply ignores it. He has to ask about Viktor anyway. “Anyway, in still sorry about the meeting Cait, how about i make it up to you with lunch sometime?” He asked apologetically “another time though, do you perhaps know where Viktor is?” He asked nonchalantly.

Caitlyn looks taken aback. “…Viktor?”

so.. she doesn't know him, then?

”Yes, Viktor. Is something wrong? You look… weird.” He grimaces at his answer but before he could say anything else Caitlyn starts to practically break out into anger again.

“So you skip the meeting, a very important one by the way, Jinx has build new bombs which we needed to decode, and having a scientist there would've been great help, thank you. But instead you’re here, talking about Viktor again?! Also why are you even asking me? Don't you always obsessively stalk him?? He's probably in Zaun doing god knows what for what should i know? Please Jayce, talk about something else for once, im tired.” She sighs.

Jayce did not expect this reaction. He awkwardly scratches his neck. At least he has some answers, Viktors in Zaun? Did he move there? Jayce wonders.

“Ah right, sorry Cait, again. Im busy though so… i promise ill make it up to you.” He frowns.

Caitlyn huffs as she crosses her arms. “Fine, i get it. But don't get any dumb ideas.” She looks at him knowingly. “Im not the one patching up your wounds once you come crawling back, give me a break.” Caitlyn said as she struts out the room.

what did she mean by that? Jayce was confused but payed it no mind. If Viktor is in Zaun, Jayce must have his address here somewhere. He walks around the lab searching for anything that might help, as he suddenly sees a notebook laying on the desk, he opens it.
“Property of Jayce Giopara” it reads.  “So the other-me’s name is Giopara, not Talis? Weird” he scrunches his nose in confusion and skims through the next pages.

The Notebook was filled with both finished unfinished projects, theories, plans and what-not. Pretty similar to Jayce’s own notebook, except- there it was again, an ungodly amount of sketches and detailed drawings of that same Robo-Person. Jayce scrunches his eyebrows in confusion. There are endless pages only dedicated to them, paragraphs written on how each mechanism worked, weaknesses and also methods to take them down. What a dedication, he thinks. Then on the last page at the back of the Notebook he find it. A hastily written down address. “Emberflit Alley, the second house on the right.” Thats the only thing written there.

Well- guess he makes it do, its better than nothing, he guesses. Jayce puts the notebook back onto the desk and makes his way into Zaun.

The streets in Zaun look the same as they looked the last time he was here. While walking through the Lanes Jayce cursed himself that he didn't at least look for a map or something- he has no clue where he’s going! As he tiredly turned into another alley, hoping he’s going the right way he notices someone following him.
Fuck, he cursed internally, was he really so stupid that he forgot to bring any weapon down to Zaun with him? What is he? An idiot?! He turned around to address the newcomer, only to be met with… a child?! The kid had ginger hair and a tanned but freckled face. He broke out into a toothy grin, as if Jayce just brought him a limited toy. The little boy began speaking.

“it took you 25 minutes to notice me! Not very perceptive of the “big defender of tomorrow” is it?!” He laughs, the defender of tomorrow part was said in a mock-scary voice.

Defender of tomorrow? Is that me? Jayce asked himself. The boy seemed to know him.
“Hi, uh- why exactly are you following me?” He asked questionably

“i wanted to know what you're doing down here” the boy shrugs his shoulders. “You also look lost” he grins.

Jayce contemplates his actions for a quick second. He guesses that if the kid knew him, he’d surely help him out, right?

”Im looking for Emberflit-Alley.” He said awkwardly. “Do you perhaps know the way?” He asked hopefully.

The redhead blinked twice and then looked at him dumbly. Has he said something wrong? The Boy kept thinking until, that grin, that is honestly making Jayce feel really uneasy- comes back creeping into his face. “I can show you.” He says innocently. “Follow me!” The boy says wickedly while jump skipping in front of Jayce to lead him the way.
Jayce has kind of a bad feeling about this- but also this kind of disturbing kid is his only choice so he lets him lead him through the Streets of Zaun.

“Why are you out here alone anyway, it’s quite dangerous at this time.” Jayce tried for conversation. The boy just looked at him and said “I was send to collect scrap-metal but well, then i found you!” Jayce didn’t feel comforted by that answer. What would a maybe thirteen year old boy need with scrap-metal?-

“Im fourteen, not thirteen.” The boy said frowning.

Oops, did he say that out loud?

”What are you doing in Emberflit-Alley anyway?” The redhead asked.

“Im looking for someone.” Jayce answered truthfully. The boy just kept staring at him doubtfully. Seriously, what is Jayce doing wrong? He thinks he’s been pretty normal so far.

”Hey kid.” Jayce says, the boy then turned his head towards him, still glancing suspiciously. “Hm?” He asked.
“Whats your Name, anyway?
“Naph” the boy said plainly. The rest of the way they did not talk, keeping an uncomfortable silence, For Jayce at least.

”and were here!” Naph sing songed happily stopping in front of a rusty old sign saying “Emberflit-alley” Jayce sighed contentedly and thanked the kid. “Thank you, Naph. I owe you one.” He smiles and walks into Amberfit-Alley, but instead that Naph, like Jayce thought turned around and went back into what he was doing beforehand, he innocently followed him into the Alley.

Before Jayce could ask him about it though- the boy turned to him with a chuckle and said “Sorry beforehand- heh, blitz isn’t really gentle.” There was no guilt in his Voice. Before Jayce could ask him what it meant there was something hard suddenly hitting his head- and before he could think twice, he already saw black as he faded into unconsciousness.

Chapter 2

Summary:

Jayce wakes up and finds himself tied upside down. How will his first encounter with the Machine Herald go?

Notes:

(See the end of the chapter for notes.)

Chapter Text

As Jayce slowly gained consciousness he noticed that one, he was hanging upside down and was restrained by a rope- and two, he had a big fat concussion. While trying to focus he could barely decipher a conversation happening from further away.

“So you’re telling me that you saw him and what? Decided to follow him and then bring him here like some peace offering?!” A mechanical voice with an accent frustratingly says and sighs. “What am i to do with him?!”

“Yes.” Another, much younger voice claimed- wait was it the boy from earlier?

”he seemed weird” the younger continued. “He was acting all clueless, like he didn't remember me. He didn’t even bring that gigantic hammer of his! And he always brings that- and also he said he was on his way here because he was “looking for someone” the voice claimed doubtfully. “Literally everyone in Zaun and especially him knows that the only Person living here is you-!” The boy whined.

“Enough!” The Older, Mechanical Voice screamed. “That still does not explain you bringing him to me. Leave him alone whatever he's going through, i had no interest of dealing with him tonight.” The mechanical voice grumbled.

”Father, i detect system overheat and heart rate rising alarmingly. Do you need help cooling down?” Another, much more Robotic voice interrupted.

“Not now, blitzcrank.” The mechanical voice sighed.

as the trio continued their conversation, Jayce’s eyes slowly focused. He came to realise that the conversation happening wasn't as far away as he thought, but actually only a few feet in front of him. Must be the concussion, he thought. When his eyes finished focusing, he could make out three figures, one was the boy from earlier, the other was a giant golem and the last was a Man-metal-like- or was it modified? Man, wearing a mask. Jayce quickly realised that this was the same Person that he saw all over of his other self’s lab. He felt his guard building up at the realisation.
suddenly he felt a painful sting in his head “hnngg” he whined painfully, this concussion really sucks. It was the golem who hit him, right? Why did they have to be  so aggressive…

Jayce’s whine didn't go unnoticed, as suddenly three heads where looking his way. Jayce gulped.

The third arm of the herald raised, targeting him and glowing a deep orange.

”Hey-hey wait!” Jayce screamed hastily

“i know this doesn’t sound very believable but im not the guy you're looking for! Im from another reality and i have no clue what this Jayce has done to you- alright?!” He started ranting “so please don't kill me?”

The herald studied him for a second and then turned.

”Naph, go.” The Machine Herald? Said. “But-“ he objected. “Now.” The Herald turned to the redhead, looking at him dangerously, the way that a father would look at his child while scolding them, jayce cant help but think. The boy pouted and with a loud “hmph!” left the room.
The Herald then approached him slowly, with the golem in tow. He stopped in front of him and then turned to the golem.

“Blitzcrank, Vitals.”

”of course, father.” The golems robotic voice said, then walked toward him and then came to an abrubt stop. Then it only.. studied him for a few seconds.
…Was he being scanned?!

“ Concussion detected at Object of inspection, Blood pressure OK, no inner wounds, knee injury detected. I suggest treatment of concussion immediately.” The Golem, Blitzcrank? Finished.

“alright, blitzcrank. Thank you, you may leave.” The Machine Herald dismissed the Golem, who obediently listened and walked out of the room.

Jayce was unnerved by the thought of being alone with this human/robot/person (whatever it was now.) He couldn’t finish worrying though for as the second he looked forward again, the third arm(?) of the Herald was suddenly facing torward him, and emitting a brighly shining laser. Jayce was caught by suprise and flinched- but instead if facing his immediate death and burning alive, he instead fell headfirst into the ground. Only a freshly burning rope to be left.

“What the hell was that?!” He screamed.

“My death-ray.” The Mechanical accented voice answered unhelpfully. “Stay here.” He said while briefly leaving the room, giving Jayce enough time to sit himself up properly.

he came back with a bottle with some kind of liquid in there.

”Here, take this.” The herald hmpfed.
so its medicine, Jayce figures. He reached for the bottle and downed it in one go. The other just stared at him intensely and uncomfortably, and seemingly didn't stop.

”what?” Jayce said

”No questioning me about the evil effects this potion will have? Or how it will erase all your senses and make you my obedient slave?” The robotic Man said ironically.

Jayce suddenly felt insecure. “Should i?” He frowned and asked anxiously.

The other just laughed.

”You really are not my defender, are you?” the Herald hummed.

“No.” Jayce answered truthfully.
“Look-“ The Machine Herald listened intensely “i know that you and me in this reality aren't on good terms, I've come that far. It’s really not my business and neither do i want it to be.” He takes a breath before continuing. “But you’re the only one here that can help me out remotely so- please-“ he whines, “help me out and i will be out of your hair as soon as possible and you can go back to trying to kill the other Jayce's guts for all i care.” He finished. “I just wanna go home, please.” He started at the robotic man pleadingly.

The Machine Herald tilted his head and studied him for a long moment.
“Fine” he said eventually. “Why are you here anyway? Naph mentioned you were looking for someone.”

Jayce chuckled awkwardly. “Yes- thats true, thats actually also what i need your help with.” Jayce took a breath and looked at the herald. “Do you perhaps know a Viktor?” Jayce asked.

The Machine Herald immediately stiffened. “…Viktor?” He asked, voice filled with doubt.

Why do people keep having this reaction?! “yes, Viktor. Brown Messy hair- uses a cane, two moles one under his eye ans the other just above his lip-“ he started ranting and describing his Partner to the other, not even entertaining the possibility that Viktor may look entirely different in this reality.

“I know what he looks like.” The Mechanical Voice cuts in, annoyed.

”So you know him.” Jayce exclaims hopefully.

The herald awkwardly turned his head sideways and drifted off.. “you could say that…” he says. “You have your own Viktor in your reality?” He asked, interested.

Jayce felt himself light up at the chance to finally talk about his Partner.
“Yes- god of course. He’s the smartest and most amazing person i know, honestly.” He smiles. “Im lucky to have him as my Partner.” His eyes dropped. “At least i was, heh.” He chuckled painfully. “Until- because he left me.” Jayce went quiet at the end. It was so easy to forget everything that has happened when he was literally stuck in a different reality. He felt tears prickling at his eyes again. God, why cant he control his emotions?!

He could feel the intense stare of the Herald  even through his Mask. The Man didn't say anything at first, just quietly studying him. It felt strangely intimate- And uncomfortable. Then after what felt like hours the Herald finally cleared his throat and said: “Okay.”

”Okay?” Jayce looked up confused.

”I can help you look for your ‘Partner’.” The Herald answered. There was something about the way he said ‘Partner’. It wasn't Venomous, or filled with disgust, no. It was something deeper, well hidden. Jayce couldn't decipher what it was, but something in him urged to find out more about this mysterious Man.
“First i have to take a look at your knee though. It appears to be sprained.” The Herald continued. “Once you have recovered we can start looking.” He finished, leaving no room for argument.

Jayce nodded at that, sure he’d like to find Viktor as soon as possible but surprisingly he didn’t mind the idea of staying here that much.
“Bitzcrank!” The Herald then called out, and almost as if on cue the Golem starts walking through the heavy doors.

“What is it, Father?”

”Take him to my Personal lab.” The Herald said nonchalantly. “He will stay with me for a while.”

“Understood.” Blitzcrank answered and then made its way towards Jayce, and with one swift movement- he picked him up.

”Hey-! Wait! I can walk myself!” Jayce protested, but the robot not even spared him a glance while answering “Father ordered me to escort our guest safely. Order must be fulfilled.” Thats the only thing he said, during the somewhat short walk to the said lab.
It was rusty and had all kinds of equipments- Jayce felt honestly amazed and euphoric at the same time.
Blitzcrank sat him on the table. “Wait here.” They said and then left the room. Leaving Jayce alone to study the lab.

The door opened, the Machine Herald coming in holding a compression.

“The state of your leg is not that serious. As long as you rest you should be up in about a week” he said while fastening the compression on his knee.

“Ouch.” Jayce whined as the compression sat just a little too tight. Once the Herald was done Jayce spoke before an awkward silence could fill the room.
“uhm, i hope im not overstepping but i do have another question.” The Herald gestured him to go on. “You and.. the other Jayce, i know i said its none of my businesses but i cant help but wonder- what is the deal with you two? Back at the lab in Piltover, everywhere i looked i saw your ‘face’, or that mask, at least. If it were newspapers, wanted posters or own drawings. It was weirdly obsessive” he laughs, “i mean there was literally a bunch of pages dedicated to you and being filled with drawings of you in that notebook.” He grins. “I know that both of you must be enemies, even a blind person could sense that. But i cant seem to make out why. Sure you look terrifying, but i don’t think you’re that dangerous. I mean you haven't killed me yet, have you? I think that already says a lot about you.” He laughs. “So it must be something deeper, i mean- i don't know you but i know myself, and i wouldn't be so strangely obsessed with some guy i simply hate.” Jayce kept on ranting and then noticed the Machine Herald has gotten stiff. Jayce looked at him in wonder.

“…drawings?” The Machine Herald asked ridiculously.

“Yeah… tons of it.” Jayce sighs, was he not supposed to say that?
“anyway you don't have to answer me, im just being nosy thats all.” He smiled which he hopes would come off as comforting.

The Herald kept on standing, unmoving and lost in thought. Likely taking in all the information. Did Jayce break him? He didn't know that was possible but maybe he triggered some system error?
Before he could panicky look for the golem the Herald cleared his throat. So he does still function after all! Thank god.

“Anyways i have somewhere else to be.” The Mechanical Voice said awkwardly. “Bedroom is down the hallway left, I’ll ask blitzcrank to escort you there.”
Then as if he never had been here at all, he disappeared through the door, and Jayce found himself alone for the first time in hours.

Chapter 3

Summary:

Jayce Giopara awakes at an unknown place, while Talis shares a weak moment with the Machine Herald.

Notes:

(See the end of the chapter for notes.)

Chapter Text

Jayce Giopara awakes and finds himself in an unknown place. He's in some type of- tower? He thinks. He stood up and then searches for the entrance, which takes a while but eventually he navigates it and then finds himself outside. The bustling and familiar streets of Piltover greet him. Jayce then looked upward to study the tall tower.

Wait- arent those the hexgates? He thinks, they look entirely different- and much too modern. Why are they like this? He asked himself confusedly. Something is terribly wrong…

On his way through the streets of Piltover Jayce made out some things by talking to passengers and shop vendors, for one there was no ongoing war with Zaun he made out that both city’s are still united as one, and that there is no official “Zaun” only the undercity. But Piltover was still oppressing Zaun. All in all it was pretty similar to- well, before.

What the fuck. Am i in some kind of different reality?’ He sighs, annoyed. ‘At least give him a warning before catapulting him through space and time! Thank you.’

If you’re asking yourself “how has the great Jayce Giopara figured out he was in an alternative reality so quickly?” Well, he has an easy answer for you. First off– he’s not dumb. In-fact he’s the smartest Person in all of Piltover! So figuring that out, should be like learning the ABC for him, naturally.  Now to the real explanation– on his way he saw a Newspaper on the ground, and saw that the date had only changed to one day. Same Month, same year. It was as easy as that. So time travel was out of the option, and unless this was some psychotic dream– it had to be inter-dimensional travel.

he then made his way towards his lab– at least he hopes its still in the same place. He needs a place to think and somehow make sense of this-

As he arrived in front of the huge double doors of the lab, he internally pats himself on his shoulder for going to his lab in the academy, not his personal one at the district of house Giopara.

Opening the double doors, Jayce was met with an unexpected View. In the middle of the familiar looking laboratory, there was a giant cocoon- like thing, containing the outline of a human. Jayce didn't know if he should feel astonished or disgusted.
What… the fuck is that.’ He asked himself bewilderedly. He stepped forward into the lab, studying the room, when the blackboard catches his eye. On there he sees a huge drawing of– wait is that Viktor?! He walks torward the blackboard to inspect it.

Fuck- it really is!’ He laughs to himself. ‘its so detailed- wait are those his moles?’ He raised his eyebrows and smiled at the drawing and then examined the notes written next to said drawing in his  handwriting. He frowned. Is Viktor still human in this reality? He then picked up the notebook and skimmed through it. Every single page is signed, he smiled at the quirk he seemingly also had here, first it was only signed by ‘Jayce Talis’ Talis… Jayce recognised the name as it was his mothers- if the other Jayce went by this name, does that mean she’s still alive? The thought crushed him.
It felt unfair. He felt anger, grief and envy pooling at the bottom of his stomach.
He took a breath and regained himself. After a few pages the pages signed ‘Viktor and Jayce Talis”  Giopara tried to ignore the ugly feelings creeping up this time.

everything in here is about hextech’ He kept on flipping the pages and reading, scrunching up his eyebrows. Minutes passed as he intently read through every pages content and he quickly realized that the Jayce of this Universe- Jayce Talis actually invented hextech! He laughed unbelievably into his hands.

You really are something, huh?..”

Now, Jayce of former house Giopara really prided himself on his work, especially on the fact that he perfected the hex-crystals and made them accessible to general use. But now, seeing that this random variant of himself not only managed that, but also invented the whole thing?! Jayce Giopara felt like he lost in a game he never had a chance to win in.
Now, one might say feeling envious of the accomplishments of an entirely different version of you from an alternative reality is foolish, its still the same Person afterall.
But Jayce giopara was anything but rational, and competitive by nature. So this naturally let him feel down. Screw this other asshole variant of this universe, honestly.

While continuing reading through the pages, almost as if the universe wanted to trigger him- Jayce came upon a page filled with sketches and little portraits all of the same man— Viktor. Not his Viktor (not like he ever would be his again, but Jayce didn’t care.) no, there was no sign of Machinery in any of those drawings- it was all still flesh, young, beautiful Viktor.
Jayce suddenly felt nostalgic, and then there it was- this ugly feeling creeping back again.

God, he missed him so much.

Jayce takes a breath and pushes all of this not new, crushing emotions aside. Thinking about all of… this without a bottle of alcohol wont do him good.

After taking a few minutes to calm down he walked towards the desk, blueprints messily spread all over the space- he eyed them. ‘Those plans are for weapons… the hell he needs them for?!’ He sighs disappointedly. ‘Talis, Talis… what did you do.’
He then turned towards the open notebook on the page. It must be Viktor’s– he could recognise his horrid handwriting from miles away.
he scanned the open pages, his eyes widened as he came to the realisation that, no, Viktor isn’t untouched by the urge to fix himself and turn everything into steel as he originally thought- in fact, he already started self experimentation. Viktor isn’t like Jayce, he didn’t write personal thoughts into his notes. Only simple tactical and efficient information that deems important. Jayce figures out that unlike his Viktor (“not yours” a tiny annoying voice in the back of his head says) this Viktor did not perform surgery on himself- no here it was much easier, if one could say that. It was something about the runes- carving them into skin and then making flesh react with the hexcore, the outcome being an organic but metallic matter. Jayce stares wide-eyed, this song seeming all too familiar to him.

‘was he too late?’

Then suddenly, with the blink of an eye, everything came rushing to him. Talis’ notes, the blackboard and Viktors notebook– it all made sense now. The cocoon– the outline wasn’t just of any person, it was Viktor. Jayce frantically looked through everything he’s already read through earlier as he came to the realisation:

He had to find Viktor.

There wasn’t any reason at all why he should. Everything that happened here does not concern him and he should focus on getting back to his reality.

and yet.

What if this is his chance? Even if this is not his reality- what if he could fix it? What if its not too late yet- maybe, just maybe if he‘s fast enough he can reach this Viktor in time, and make him see reason– maybe with this viktor he succeeds.

Jayce knew it would make no difference in the end, but he had to try. So without a second thought, he rushes out of the laboratory.

Jayce Talis laid in an empty bed , staring off into nothingness. After Blitzcrank escorted him to this room (he assumed it is the Heralds, as the room was cramped and filled with other inventions and tiny experiments. Almost as if it was a tiny lab on itself. Does this guy even sleep?
He could barely sleep. He tried, but kept on waking up. He maybe only had a handful hours of sleep, but based on the moonlight shining through the single window it was still nighttime.
Jayce sighs and sits up.
‘The Machine Herald surely wouldn‘t mind if i looked around for a bit, right..?‘ He guessed and without another thought sprung up and left the room to wander the halls.

Once he arrived downstairs at a what he guessed was a kitchen, he was greeted by the Machine Heralds back. He turned around to face him, mask still safely sitting on his face.

“I couldn’t sleep.” He explains.

“Mh” The Herald answered and then turned toward the kitchenette. “I was just about to make myself a drink.” He exclaimed awkwardly. “Do you want some?” He offered.

“Sure!” Jayce smiled genuinely, without even asking what it is he was going to be making.

The Herald just grumbled in acknowledgement and then turned on the Stove. He heated up Milk and mixed some spices into it. Jayce recognised the smell and walked behind the Herald, head peeking over his shoulder in interest as he watched the White liquid.

”You're making Sweetmilk?” Jayce asked, amused.

The Herald, taken aback by the sudden close proximity, stiffened for a blink and then answered. “Yes,” he cleared his throat “You know it?” He asked in interest as he kept on blending said drink.

“Of course i do.” Jayce laughed “My Viktor used to drink this all the time- im honestly not too fond of it, it’s way too sweet. I don't mind drinking it though.” He smiled cheekily

The Herald suddenly went quiet at the mention of Viktor. He didn't bother responding as he slowly filled two mugs with the sweetmilk and put star anise into it. Jayce wished he could know what was going on inside of his mind.  He then walked past Jayce toward the table and sat both mugs down. Jayce followed him and took a seat. The Herald sat himself in front of him and after a too long silence he finally started talking.

”about.. Viktor. I know i said i can help you find him, and i do mean that.” He started, looking at Jayce intensely. “But i must have you know that i believe that- he’s different then the Viktor you know, at least i think so. I believe that you will not like what you’ll see, so you may take this as a warning. Are you sure you still want to search for him?” The Herald asked, gaze boring into him.

Jayce held the others gaze for a while and then sighed “Honestly… I don't care.” He starts, the Herald looked at him doubtfully (at least he thinks- as the mask physically still looked as unemotional as ever) “i don't care if he looks different or acts differently. Even if his his face is completely distorted and his eyes are no longer filled with live- as long as he’s the same Viktor at heart, i don't care what he looks like or what he’s done.” He said truthfully. And then more intimately “and i know this because– i already told you that my Viktor left me, but i didn’t say why. In truth, its completely my fault.” He felt tears prickling in his eyes, he didn't know why he was telling him this. “I was so- so incredibly selfish. I saw his dead body lying there and-“ a sob. “I couldn’t- I couldn’t just leave him there, i couldn’t live on without him- so i did the most selfish thing i could and i used the hexcore on him.” He sniffed. “I promised him to destroy it and yet I didn’t. I used his notes, i knew he was experimenting on himself. Yet i couldn’t stop, couldn't stop fighting for him, i knew i was breaking my promise to him yet I didn’t care about the consequences, as long as i could have him back again.” He couldn’t stop ranting, now he was crying again. The other party seemingly at a loss of what to do with this emotional outburst. “And it worked. And you know what’s the worst part? I dont regret it. I wish i did but i dont and i never will. The last time i saw Viktor- his biology was changed, modified by the arcane. It was organic and metallic at the same time. Viktor- he changed. He suddenly was so emotionless, not even being able to feel coldness.” He shivered at the memory. “Yet i didn’t care about any of that, not being able to think about anything else than the joy of him being alive.” He finished, teary eyed. “So yes im sure, whatever is awaiting me i can handle it.”

The Herald just watched him deeply. “And he left you for that?” He asked, almost incredulously.

“Yes, i deserved it.” Jayce answered tiredly

”hmph.” The Herald stared off into space and after a minimal silence then continued “i understand.” He said. “And im sorry, about you and– your Viktor.” He finished awkwardly and stood up. Putting the mugs away. Wait- when had he even finished that-?

“I believe you.” The Machine Herald said, he didn’t say anything else about the matter. “As for now i have to descend to my laboratory again, i have a patient to tend to tomorrow morning.”

Jayce frowned at the thought of going back to sleep, he didn’t want to leave. “Actually- i saw your lab and i really would like to see you work. Plus i still cant sleep so– would you mind me tagging along?” Jayce asked, somewhat hopefully.

The Machine Herald’s only answer was to gesture to him with his head to follow him, as he walked into the direction of his Lab. Jayce followed him happily.

Chapter Text

Jayce enthusiastically followed the Herald into his lab. It was stupid, really. To be so exited about spending time with a complete stranger from a different reality- but honestly, who wouldn’t?! While the Machine Herald may look scary, he is a genius. Simply one look at his body is enough to prove that. The craftsmanship of his Machinery– one could see the passion and time he’s put into it. Jayce was simply enamoured with it.

Once arriving in the lab, the Herald walked toward a table, atop of it lying an unfinished mechanical leg. The craftsmanship of it being similar to the legs of the other, both man and steel being. Said Man started working on Said leg, not baring Jayce much further thought.

“So you make prosthetics?” Jayce started.

“Amongst other things..” The Herald hummed. “The Patient im treating tomorrow lost his Leg in an accident. So this one is one of the more ‘morally correct’ bodily modifications , as some would say.” He scoffs.

“I dont see any Problem in helping people when they need help.“ Jayce smiles, sweetly. The Herald feels something in him burning at that look.

“And when i tell you that i not only stop at replacing simply limbs but also organs and bones? That people come to modify their body to me, not only because of health problems but because they want to be stronger.” The Herald now turned to him, orange glowing eyes boring into his very soul. “What if i told you that it doesn't stop at that. I perform brain surgery, i make pills, to reform their consciousness. I can erase Memories or emotions, people have already asked for that. There are some here in Zaun, besides me, who are more Machine than Human.” The Herald finished. He talked desperately, expecting Jayce to be disgusted with him, to leave, to scream and tell him that he is nothing more than an emotionless robot.

But Jayce did none of that.

He was overwhelmed by the sudden information dumped on him, but eventually regained himself and found his voice. “While i honestly don’t agree with everything you're doing, i don’t think that what you are doing is inherently bad..” he said calmly. “Im not saying it’s right either-! .. But its not like you’re an evil scientist experimenting on people and kids without their consent, right?” He jokes, half serious.

The Machine Herald seemed shocked by the other’s calm and lightheartedness. Seemingly forgotten that this was not his Jayce he was talking to. “No… never without consent given from the Patient.” He starts, slowly. “At least not usually. There have been some, whom u could not ask for consent of the operation beforehand, because of their unconscious state and almost dying. In the end i do what i have to do, for them to survive. Id rather unethically perform a surgery than have someone dying knowing i could have helped.” The Herald finishes carefully.

Jayce only smiled. “I understand.” He says. “I cant really judge you for that,” he laughs. “Would be hypocritical. I’ve done the same, remember?” He smiles sadly.

“i recall.” The other just said. This was not how he expected the Conversation to go. Jayce was supposed to be mad and screaming. The Herald was not surprised by Jayce not supporting his ideals. His Morals certainly wont change even in different realities. But to be met with understanding?

The silence stretched all over the room. The only noise filling the atmosphere being the Machine Herald quiet sounds of tinkering with the Mechanical Leg. Jayce eatching his every move, then broke the silence.

“You tightened that screw too much, the leg won’t be able to move well if you keep it that tight.”

The Larger Man just shot him a questioning look. Ready to discuss his work but then looking back on his work, he noticed Jayce was not all that wrong. He grunted. “How would you do it then? If i make it any looser the chance of it falling out is too high.” He said logically.

”let me.” Jayce said as he grins, he then scoots his Chair closer to the other. So close that their thighs were almost touching. He took the screwdriver out of the others hands and started tinkering.

“…Here, all done.” He smiled as he gave the  prosthetic back to him. “By the way, i know this is random but, ha, i just really admire your work. You made? Your body yourself, right??” He started rambling. “I don’t know how or why and i really don’t think its myself to ask you that but—its great work. Really its impressive.”

The Herald was visually taken aback by the others word’s. Obviously not expecting them. “…you think so?” He asked doubtfully. Voice quiet with shock.

Jayce just smiled genuinely. “Yes i do.” And then after a beat “can i touch your arm? Maybe? Id really like to study your work.”

….

Did he really just say that out loud? Jayce mentally slapped himself. Why does he never think?! He barely knows that man and for all he knows he’s enemies with his original self of this timeline! Great Job to get potentially murdered Jayce Talis!

With each beat of the silence passing, Jayce felt himself sweat more and more. He was just about to say something to safe himself, when the Herald replied.

“okay.” He said simply

”…okay?” Jayce probably looked like something just slapped him in the face. To say he was not expecting this answer was an understatement!

The Machine Herald though, was having none of it. He simply shoved his arm into Jayces face. An offering. Jayce slowly reached his hand out and then it met the cold arm of the Herald. He then recovered from his shock and quickly the true scientist in him came out. He studied his arm, fingers tracing over clean metal.

‘The Craftmanship is just… wow. That Man clearly is something.’ He thought while staring at the Mans Arm in wonder. The Machine Herald… he truly is brilliant. Although while tracing over him Arm the Craftsmanship starts to feel eerily familiar to him.

The Machine Herald stayed seated stiffly. Clearly not used by this touch. He did not pull away though, keeping on watching Jayce intently.

“Do you feel touch?” Jayce then asked.

“Yes i do, the same as a human being would.”

Jayce halted. Once again impressed.

”What is that?” Jayce asked, gesturing to a clasp at The Machine Heralds wrist.

“That is for shimmer.” He opened the clasp, three shimmer vials, one half empty greeting his vision. The Herald seemingly took notice on the shock in Jayce’s face as he went to explain. “I need it. Without it, my still human bodily Parts would recognise my now advanced parts as foreign and reject them. My body would likely collapse on itself. The shimmer, ironically deals as bridge.” The Herald finished. Jayce just nodded his head in understanding and awe.

“So you were human once?” Jayce asked innocently, fighting a smile.

“Correct.” The Herald just said.

For the rest of the night Jayce just kept asking the other all sorts of questions about his body. He was a true Scientist, wanting to uncover and analyse everything about the other’s body and how it functions. Jayce was both in awe and shock how it is humanely possible to change your body in such ways. It was horrifying, true. But also, only a genius would be able to pull that off.
Eventually the Herald resigned, having to keep on working on the Mechanical leg. Jayce stayed, the whole night. Helping out then and there, if he was allowed. having small talk… The Machine Herald was surprisingly good company and he felt himself warming up to him. Jayce did nit feel like sleeping that night.

Jayce Giopara was wandering through the filled lanes of Zaun. Zaun was not very different from the one in his timeline. Just like Piltover. So navigation wasn’t a problem— But finding Viktor was. Also not something that changed, but if anyone could find him, no matter what reality it was Jayce. He was oh so confident in that.

as of right now, he was sitting in a filled pub, deep in Zaun. His investigations only having come to dead ends until now… The Bartender serves him his beer while giving him a strange look. Jayce just shrugged it off. He took a gulp as a conversation of two women sitting near him catches his attention.

”im sorry to hear that your condion worsened. That must be tragic for you.”

“Yes it is. I honestly dont know what to do- but thats just life as a Zaunite right? Cant even be lucky enough to grow old…”

“… or-“ The other women started. “Have you heard of the Healer? Downtown by the fissures? Ive heard great things about him. You could give it a shot.”

’Healer? Since when did Zaun have a Healer??’ Jayce thought to himself, ridiculously.

“I have, yes. I mean im thinking about it- but are you sure? Zaun never was one for fairytales… i don't wanna get my hopes up.”

“Believe it or not, i think theres something to it. A friend’s daughter went to him one time. She was paralysed on both legs and now- she can walk again. Do you know what they call him? The Herald. What a fitting name.” She laughs.

’The Herald… what.’

Then suddenly everything clicks. Jayce laughs.

’sounds like i am to late then..’ He laughs to himself painfully. Then a sudden determination overtakes him. Maybe… maybe he could still reach him. He certainly cant give up now. He sighs and then abruptly stood up, catching everyones attention in the bar. Ge threw probably too much coin at the bartender and then stormed out the building.

‘Downtown. By the fissures. Lets do this.’ He knew exactly where to look.

Arriving upon the location, Jayce tightened his grip on the hammer. Now he expected something else- something more sounding like ‘stinky evil villain laboratory with some corpses with their brains out lying around.’ But this- this was something else. It was a place that should not belong in Zaun. It honestly looked like Paradise.

Jayce stepped forward into the entrance. A brunette Man with a white streak in his hair, 5 Marks in the form of fingerprints adorning his forehead and cheeks and a way too kind to not be unnerving smile greeting him.

”Hello, im here to speak with your Herald guy. Its quite important.” He said while putting on his best fake ‘do-what-im-telling-you-to-do’ smile.

The too-kind looking Man just smiled “The Herald is awaiting you.” He simply said  and then led him through this strangely heavenly looking place.

’Awaiting me?? What the fuck?! Are you yelling me that he’s aware of me being here…? Thats- creepy.’ He shivered. As the faces of the people stared at him. They unnerved him, something about all of this feeling unnatural. He kept his pace steady as he walked confidently

They stopped in front of something alike a dome. The Man just gestured for him to go in.

So thats where hes hiding huh?’ He takes a breath, mentally preparing himself for what might come next. His hand tightening around his hammer again, and he stepped forward walking into it.
Arriving inside he took a look around, before his eyes drifted upward and- there he is. Viktor. He looked so beautiful.
He was floating, connected to some kind of of tubes. No it wasnt tubes- something alike but something else entirely. This Viktor looked so much and at the same time nothing like his at all. His body was purple- still metal. He frowned to himself.

Then, Viktors eyes opened and just like that, blue met the void of changing colours that were the others eyes. A smile.

Jayce felt himself stumble, falter at the view of the others face- his smile.  God- how long has it been since he last saw his face? It must be seven Years by now. He could not stop staring, tears clouding his vision as memories flooded into his brain, all while he was memorising the others face again.
That smile. It was a painful reality of how miserable his life actually was. Viktor would never smile at him like that again, not anymore. Not since-

He ruined everything.

Suddenly everything came rushing back to him. Every single painful memory that he fought so hard to keep behind closed doors.
That Smile. The same soft smile Viktor had given him when he greeted him in the lab- when he kissed him, when Jayce proposed.

Coward.

You ruined it. You ruined everything.

suddenly the ground beneath him gave out. He felt like throwing up. Everything was spinning and- what was he doing again? All his emotions were suddenly flowing out and he couldnt do anything to stop it. He could not think straight.

until

A hand on his shoulder, cold but grounding. It snapped him out of his episode. He met those unfamiliar eyes again.

“Jayce?” He said, carefully. Accent curling around his name.

and god. How long has it been since he last heard him say his name? It was only ‘defender’ or ‘Giopara’ these days. Also How long has it been since he last even heard his voice without that stupid modulator. Jayce couldn't fight the sob coming out at the realisation. He truly felt miserable.

Viktor just stared at him softly, massaging his shoulder and trying to comfort him. Ironic as it is it worked. Viktor will always be his greatest comfort. After his sobs quieted down and Jayce regained himself, Viktor again started talking, softly.

”You are not my Jayce, are you?”

Jayce felt like he was caught with his hand in the cookie-jar at that. How does he know? So he asked just that.

”i- what?! How do you know?” There was no use in acting now.

“Your Soul, its different i saw.” Viktor said gently but carrfully but then with a more dangerous edge. “Who are you and what have you done to Jayce?”

Jayce Giopara then regained himself and stood up to properly introduce himself- ever the Charmer.
“Hello, names Jayce of House Giopara.” He winked, even after a Mental breakdown- he'd never loose his charm. “Im from another reality. Im afraid while i am stuck here your Jayce is stuck in my reality.” He said simply. Viktor then humms thoughtfully. “Also what the hell do you mean by ‘you saw my soul’?!” He pratically screamed.

Viktor only looked at him, seemingly coming to a conclusion. “How about we have a talk? I think we have both questions the other can give us answers to.” He said neutrally and then turned around and walked toward the exit of the dome. Jayce had no choice but to follow him.

After tinkering away with the Machine Herald last night, once arriving in bed Jayce immediately passed out. He had a good 8 hours of sleep and awoke mid afternoon. Unfortunately he has yet to see the Herald today, as he was still busy with his Operation. As Blitzcrank said. One week was almost over and his Leg was pretty mich healed completely. They should start looking for Viktor soon, he thought hopefully.

Jayce was in the middle of reading some random Zaunish Book he picked up, when the Machine Herald interrupted him by entering his room. Strange.

“Jayce.”

“Hi. How was the OP? Took quite long…” Jayce tried while smiling at him again. The Herald just closed the door and walked further into his room.

“It didnt last that long. I took some time off- i needed to think.” The Herald started.

Jayce only raised his eyebrow and then hurriedly sat up. Preparing to hear the other Man out.

“I have come to a Conclusion.” The Herald added, unhelpfully.

“what conclusion?” Jayce asked confused. Why cant this Man just spit it out? He always has to dig for an answer.

“You really want to see Viktor?” The Herald asked intensely.

Jayce then understanding what this was about quickly stood up. With no hesitation he said: “Yes, Yes–! More than anything.” His eyes hopeful.

The Orange glowing eyes of the Machine Herald never left his face as he nodded.
“Alright. You better not regret your decision.” Then his Arms reached for his Mask, and after a few seconds of hesitancy with a click and smoke steaming from the sides of his face where the Mask was once attached- he slowly took it off.

Jayce could only stare in shock, his eyes widening as realisation slowly dawns on him— golden oh so familiar eyes met his.

and then everything stopped.

Chapter Text

The Mask dropped with a clank and  hit the ground.

everything stopped in that Moment.

Golden eyes met hazel. He knew those eyes. They are different, a black scerla enveloping them, but the iris is the same. The same glowing, beautiful, golden eyes that pinned him down all those years ago, telling him he could archive anything, saving him. The same golden eyes he got lost in everyday. Jayce‘s breath got knocked out of his lungs. It was him. He studied his face and while it is altered, two metal plates adorning his cheek, skin even paler than it should be humanly possible, his skin tone having a light blue hue to it. Probably due to the lack of blood flowing through his now new, mechanical body— it is still, even through all the changes, painfully him. The Little creak in his eyebrow, his eye bags signalling his lack of sleep and the two moles adorning his face that he used to study maybe a tad bit too long and loved so much. Its Viktor. Its all Viktor and he‘s standing right in front of him. Tears are filling his eyes.

“Viktor?” Jayce asked, Voice filled with desperation. He so desperately needed a confirmation, to make sure that his traitorous mind isn’t playing tricks on him.

”Correct.” The other replied. “Apologies for not telling you sooner, i-“ Viktor was unable to finish his sentence, as he was cut off by a crushing hug from the Jayce Variant.

Jayce nuzzles into the others shoulder as he clutches him tighter. Viktor– useless of knowing what to do, he visually hadn’t engaged in any physical contact in what was probably years. He was at a loss of what to do. He Awkwardly put a hand on Jayces shoulder. They stood there like that in silence. Minutes passing in a blur. One holding onto the other as if they were to turn into dusk once he lets go, and the other awkwardly standing there, not knowing what to do to comfort the other Male bit quietly basking in the comfort.

Jayce felt the tears slowly slipping out of his eyes. “I- i missed you so much.” He sobs, nuzzling even closer to Viktor- even though he already is as close as humanly possible. He felt like he needed to crawl inside of his skin, this was not enough.

Viktor stilled, he looked at Jayce with a difficult expression. “I am not the one you should be saying that to. I am not your Viktor, remember?” He looked at him with a raised eyebrow, keeping eye contact.

Jayce, although not being able to see his face first winced at the others words and then let out a small laugh. “Ha- yeah sorry, lost myself for a minute there when i saw your face..” he pauses, his heart clenches. “hey, i know we need to talk about all this, i have some questions i definitely need to ask you but-“ he hesitated for a split second, but then the words flood out of his mouth like an waterfall. “can stay like this for a little longer?” Jayce regrets his request before he could shut his Mouth and take it all back. The Machine Herald- Viktor did not answer. Instead his Arms only held him tighter, pushing him further into him.  Jayce understood the silent answer and let himself relax in the others cold metal arms. He thinks this could be enough.

Jayce Giopara followed Viktor into what seemed to be a small cottage, it was more far off from the commune. Viktor opened the door and gestured for him to come inside

“This is where i reside in usually, its a private place, for myself. In case i want to sleep or just be for myself.” The accented voice with a Mechanic-like echo explained. Viktors Voice here naturally was the same as in his Universe, although his Viktors Robotic undertone was more prominent, as it came straight of his Mask. With this one here, its more like a backround voice, an echo.  Jayce only nodded as reply. Viktor then gestured for him to sit down on one of the wooden Chairs. Jayce did and Viktor followed, sitting himself in front of Jayce.

Giopara made himself comfortable “You know- a little guest friendliness would be nice. Usually people hand out drinks or snacks when they have guests over… just a suggestion.” He said as he laughs at himself. Seemingly recovered from his earlier breakdown enough to be cocky.

Viktor looked at him with an impassive look. “Well, i am not something one would call ‘usual’ am i? Also i do not eat, or drink.” Ah well Jayce could've figured that out himself. “Apologies. Although i can offer you Water?”

Jayce shook his head. “Nah. Not thirsty.”

Viktor looked at him mutely and then began to speak again. “Then to the reason why i brought you here. Who are you? And where is Jayce?”

so straight to the point, then.

Jayce had wanted to say something cocky to the others protective undertone but then quickly bit his own tongue. Instead he answered truthfully.

“I am Jayce. Not this Universes Jayce- as you found out. I am from an entire different reality and honestly i have as much of a clue as you do with how i got here– I was just in my lab napping-“ drinking “-and then i woke up down by the hexgates. Just like that!” He sighs as he pinches his nose and then thinks for a few seconds. “As for the other Jayce… i have entertained the idea that he might be in my body right now. It would make sense but… i would rather not hope for that to be the case.”  He said with a worrying undertone.

If the other Jayce really is in his body right now, there should not be any reason to worry much as he is not outrightly endangered. Except theres Viktor. His Viktor. And he is not exactly friendly. Especially towards him. In fact if the other Jayce were to run into him… yeah thats something he does not want to imagine.

Viktor listened to him intently that whole time, nodding along and storing all the information up in his brain, somewhere during the end the hue of concern flashed his usually unemotional face.

ha. So he does have emotions! Jayce patted himself on his shoulder at the fact that he was the reason for the other Male to show emotion on his face and stored that information up for later.

“You hope not? Is Jayce endangered in your reality?” He asked, worry evident in his voice.

“No- no not exactly. Our reality's are quite similar actually so im sure he’d get around well! But there is one tiny problem…” he grimaces “you. Not you you but the you in my reality- you know we’re kind of not on good terms-“ an understatement. He's talking as if they just had a little argument and had not been fighting every day fir the past seven years. “-what im trying to say is… if Jayce runs into my Viktor hell surely be attacked. And he isn’t really nice.” He can be nice, its only me he’s not nice to. goes left unsaid.

Viktor stilled at the Mention of his Variant and only wore a thoughtful expression on his face. Oh, how Giopara wished to know what goes on inside of his head. He still was not used to seeing his face. Viktor then looked back at Jayce, demanding eye contact.

“So we have to find a way to converse both yours and Jayce’s body back to their original universes, correct?” Viktor hummed

”Yeah thats right- wait WE?!” Jayce practically screamed ridiculously.

“Yes.” Viktor answered simply, “If my theory proves right about it having something to do with the Arcane, i am the best choice of help you have, given that i am connected to it.” He finishes solemnly and then added “i will not accept a no. I feel personally entangled too, as my Jayce is stuck in this. We may have left it off a bit, eh, sore but… i still find myself caring about him and want him back.”

Jayce knew he shouldn’t feel anything torward this admission, but he did. Disgusting envy filled his heart. Even after everything his Viktor would never say something like that about him. He would not care. He hates him. So why in this Universe does the Jayce get a Viktor that still cares? That wants to save him?!

“sure, why not. We’re in this together, then.” He said plastering on his best Fake smile, although Viktor only looked at him, seemingly seeing right through him. Guess thats something that never changes. Viktor said nothing.

“Alright, i have to get back to the Commune, take care of some things.” The Male said while standing up. “You can stay here. You may use anything how you like, the bedroom is the second door left.” He then walked over to the door. As he opened it he turned around one last time.

“When i come back, i would like to hear about your reality.” He said softly, the hint of a gentle smile on his face.

Jayce only nodded, seemingly in a daze.

Viktor closed the door behind him.

Both Men basked in each others Arms for what felt like eternity. When they finally broke apart, Jayce was already missing his warmth.

The herald watched him, albeit a bit amused. “You said you have questions?” His now not mechanical, accented voice asked.

”Oh- oh yeah a lot of them, uhm.” After the shock died down from seeing his face he had a lot of questions flooding his head. A lot of ‘whys’ And ‘hows’ but there is one, the most importand one he needs an answer to.

“Now after seeing your face i cant help but ask myself- you and Jayce, this Jayce. You are enemies- i mean yes thats obvious but- why?” He asked almost desperately. This question was on the back on his mind for a while now. He needed answers. Are they doomed in every universe? Jayce did not want this to be true.

Viktor obviously did not expect this question. He stilled. This was obviously a sore topic and Jayce immediately felt bad. Although before he could take it back, tell him he does not have to talk about it if its too personal, Viktor began speaking.

“Jayce and i… we were Partners once. Just like you and your Viktor.”

A simple admission, but it felt like worlds to Jayce. He was not exactly surprised by this, no. It made sense- of course they would be Partners. Jayce dosen’t think there is one Universe where that isn’t the case. He took the others Metallic Hand into his, trying to offer him some comfort.

”What happened?” Jayce asked, gently.

Viktor only stood still for some minutes. Expression now unreadable. He then looked back at Jayce as he answered.

“He betrayed me.”

oh.

“banished me from Piltover and erased my name from all our work, only to bask with Piltovers finest. What a good ‘Partner’ hm?”  He said emptily, clearly trying to keep his Voice steady.

Jayce squeezed his hand tighter, emotions and empathy arising within him. “Viktor im so sorry. I- you don’t deserve that”

he could feel hatred arising for that other Jayce. Hypocrite, he is. After-all he betrayed his own Viktor too. His heart squeezes painfully in his chest at the realisation.

Viktor took his hands out of Jayces, hea looking at him now.

“quiet.” Viktor said probably a bit too harshly “you are not the one to apologise. It does not matter anymore.”

“I know but- it does matter Viktor-“ Jayce starts. He wanted to tell him that Viktor can open up to him. That his Variant was an asshole but Viktor quickly cut in

”I have to get back to work. I will speak to you tommorow, Jayce.” He then took his mask and put it on his face again. Quickly fleeing the scene.

Jayce wanted to beg for him to stay, to tell him more- to open up to him but he knew he couldn’t ask that of him. This was seemingly too much for the other. Jayce fell backwards into his bed. He wanted to know more about him, to make the other know that he can trust him. For now he had to wait, he will. For now, Jayce drifts into a dreamless sleep.
