Chapter Text

Stolas was visibly shocked. He wasn’t expecting Blitz to ask such a big question. He stumbled over his words for a moment, before clearing his throat and responding. “What?! Like- today?!” He asked in astonishment.

Blitz chuckled, scanning over Stolas’ widened eyes and agape mouth. He picked up his fork, picking up a piece of his pancakes. “Yup! Great, right?” He replied with a mouth full of pancake.

He paused once the food hit his tongue. His face showed dissatisfaction as he slowly chewed, and eventually swallowed. “Shit.. that’s cold as hell.” He muttered.

Stolas watched as he picked at his food with his fork. “I figured it would be. We’ve been here longer than usual…” Stolas mumbled, his mind busy on Blitz’s question.

He figured it wouldn’t be too bad of an idea. The last “date” they went on didn’t turn out so great, but maybe this time, things could be better. He just had to remember his hope.

Blitz gazed into his thoughtful eyes. “So… is that a yes?” He interrupted. Stolas finally snapped out of his mind, gazing back at Blitz while looking a bit startled.

He shook his head, his eyes trailing off to the side. He stared down at the table. “I don’t know, Blitz. I’m still.. uncertain. About everything.” He answered honestly.

Blitz’s face saddened. It was understandable, but he wished it wasn’t. He kept his eyes on him. “That’s alright, don’t worry-“ He paused.

To his surprise, Stolas let a soft smile form on his face. “But that doesn’t mean I wouldn’t love to try something new..”

Blitz shot up. He grinned widely, excitement taking over him. Stolas recoiled back as Blitz appeared in his face. His body was on the table.

“Ah-! Uhm..”

“Really?!” Blitz exclaimed, grabbing his shirt.
Even though he was being abrupt, Stolas didn’t mind seeing him so excited. “Yes, really.” He confirmed.

Blitz continued to stare into his eyes, his own eyes sparkling. Stolas slowly backed his head away. “You can let me go now…”

Blitz let him go as the realization hit him. He nervously chuckled. “Ah.. sorry. Maybe got a bit too excited.”

Stolas laughed it off. “It’s fine.”

His eyes followed Blitz as he got off the table and took both of their plates. He walked over to the kitchen trash bin and threw away the cold food, before tossing the dishes into the sink. Stolas got up as well.

“Wait.” Blitz called out. Stolas stopped in his tracks, turning to face him. Blitz, having a teasing look on his face, gestured to the chair he didn’t push in. “Forgetting something?”

Stolas perked up. “Oh! Right.” He went back to the table and pushed the chair in, ensuring it’s perfectly positioned.

Blitz reached for the car keys hanging on a small hook that was attached to the wall. “You don’t live in the palace anymore, so remember to do things yourself.” He reminded him, rushing to the door with a large grin.

Stolas stood still near the table, eyes hung low. “Yes.. I know.” He muttered. His hands were in front of his body, held together tightly.

Blitz didn’t notice, and opened the front door to leave. “Buh-bye, Stols!” He shouted as he walked out the door. A tight slam echoed through the apartment.

Stolas flinched, his head shooting towards the door. “Wait-“ He stopped himself, a deep sigh escaping his mouth. He hadn’t even gotten a chance to say bye, let alone ask where Blitz was headed.

Stolas was left alone in the apartment, now quiet and calm. The absence of Blitz was not new to him. He had experienced many days like this before, where the only sounds heard were his own breaths, and the voices of the outside. And sometimes, scraping of a pencil against paper.

The sound of a door being opened each morning was temporarily present. It lived in his old palace, and escaped into the wind. Even if the sounds he heard weren't Blitz’s, at least it was something.

But this time, the sounds that would block out his worries weren't present. Blitz was his only source of sound now. And when it went away, his mind took over.

Instead of hearing the sounds of the palace, he saw them in visions. He saw the long hallways, multitude of doors, sketches and words pasted on paper, and the first love he was able to have. But it all faded into the wind. Even without sound, it was still able to go away.

But the void that lingered in his mind was fulfilled with who he wanted all along: Blitz. With him by his side, he began to push aside the past. Although full recovery would take time, the start of it was still achieved. All because he hoped for a better life.

And as Stolas went to sit down on the sofa, something lingered in the back of his mind. The thing that could’ve solved everything was just a fingertip away for so long.

So he wondered, what could’ve happened if he was with Blitz sooner? Would he have even needed sound to begin with? He couldn't know for sure, but what he did know was that Blitz was headed somewhere. And wherever he was could answer that question.

Blitz roamed the shopping aisles, scanning over multiple different things. He inspected cards, sweets, and soft plushies, but nothing caught his eye. The entire time he was shopping, Stolas was on his mind.

He searched for a bit more, until he found the perfect thing to get. The fresh scent of flowers immediately caught his attention. And as he got closer, he was able to not only smell them, but see them as well.

Bouquets of flowers were all lined up perfectly in a large crate. Each one was different. Some dull, some bright, and some with a mix of the two. And each unique shape contributed to the harmonious balance between both elements. Both of them worked together to form beautiful flowers.

Blitz looked over each one. As his hand brushed against the petals, he saw small tags attached to the bouquet. He held one up to his face, and began reading it.

“Flowers brighter than the moon—able to capture the sun.” He read. He had a thoughtful expression on his face, before setting it down and moving on to another one.

“The moon itself—round and wide—shining onto the world below—letting its light help the ones who lost theirs.”

He sat down that one as well. He let out a thoughtful hum, holding a finger up to his chin. He glanced at many different ones—the bright, the dull, the blends of both—but he couldn’t decide on the perfect one.

Until his eyes landed on a bouquet of white roses. They were gorgeous, and smelled wonderful. He picked up the tag, and began to read.

“Each petal holds a hopeful star—hope that’s not able to be seen—nor heard—but felt—and guided by the moon.”

Blitz’s fingers brushed against each delicate petal. He felt a sudden urge to buy the bouquet, and so he decided to act on it.

When he read the tag, he was reminded of Stolas. The words felt like it was meant for him. Although he didn’t know how, feelings were stronger than the meaning behind them.

He reminded himself about how good his life was now that he had Stolas in his life. How he was finally able to accept love, and be much happier and stable. That was all he wanted.

But Blitz had an ignorant heart. And so the people that wanted to love him got pushed into the dark, never able to leave.

And that included Stolas, too. Even though Stolas tried to show his love for him, he could never get through to him because of his false belief. A false belief that pulled them apart.

So, Blitz wondered something deep in his mind. Something that remained in the dark, never triggered to be thought of. And now that it was, it couldn’t be pushed back again.

Yet, he pushed through and made his way to the checkout. On his way there, he got reminded of what happened earlier. He had zoned out while talking with Stolas, all because his mind was busy with something he never considered before.

His face hardened with each step he took. A surge of guilt washed over him, a deep frown etching across his face. His eyes were dull as they landed into the ground.

Eventually, he made it to the checkout area and purchased the flower bouquet. A low sigh escaped his lips as he placed it into a brown paper bag. He took the handle and walked off to his car, setting the bag onto the back seat. He shut the door with a slam and walked up to the front.

His hand lingered on the door handle. He took a deep breath in, and forced it out quickly. His face became much brighter as he hopped into the car, putting on his seatbelt.

“Alright, this is it. Stolas is either gonna’ hate it, or love it,” He spoke to himself, starting up the car and taking hold of the steering wheel.

“I’ll have to find out tonight..” He muttered as he began to drive off. On the way home, the thing that was bothering him lingered on his mind. But he tried his best to push aside the guilt, even though it was tearing him apart.

But when he walked through the door to his apartment—and he saw Stolas sitting on the sofa—his struggle to ignore that emotion faded away.

Maybe not permanently, but for as long as he was in Stolas’ presence. He placed the bag on the dining table, and turned back to Stolas. His eyes were glued to the tv screen.

His footsteps were silent as he walked up behind him. Once he stopped behind him, a smirk spread across his face as an idea popped into his mind.

He suddenly latched his hands onto Stolas’ shoulders, shaking him. “BOO!”

Stolas jolted, practically flying off the sofa with a loud scream. He was about to fall forward, before Blitz caught him by the arms just in time. Blitz began to laugh at him as he looked down at his startled form.

“What the fuck was that for?!” Stolas screeched, tilting his head up to look at him. His face was scowled, eyes threatening. “I will get you back for this..”

Blitz secluded his laughter, now carrying a sly expression. “Oh, really? Bet.” He replied as he let Stolas’ arms free. A gasp escaped his lips as Blitz hopped over the sofa and crashed into the seat next to him. “Do something, then.”

Stolas dropped his irritated expression, turning into one of bewilderment. Blitz was amused by his widened eyes and inability to respond. He teasingly leaned in closer to him.

“Exactly~” He boasted, smugly chuckling. Stolas rolled his eyes, not making the effort to respond. He leaned into the sofa, reaching for the remote to rewind what he was previously watching. He paused once he heard Blitz’s voice.

“So.. whatcha watchin’?” He asked, his teasing attitude leaving. Stolas sharply turned to him. “I would know if you didn’t interrupt me…” He grumbled, grabbing the remote and rewinding to the part he missed.

He sighed, subtly scooting closer to Blitz. “Where did you head off to?” He asked, voice soft and quiet. His eyes remained on the screen, but his ears remained focused on Blitz.

Blitz wrapped an arm around his waist, shoving him close to his body. Stolas flinched, but immediately relaxed after. “I went to the store, to…” Blitz trailed off, trying to find a good way to explain without giving it away. “Grab something. For our date tonight.”

Stolas’ eyes widened as he got reminded of their upcoming date. “Oh! Right.”

He went silent for a moment, looking down at the ground. He turned to Blitz, his eyes showing glints of uncertainty. A small smile etched across his face, even though his eyes didn’t agree.

“I’m excited.” He admitted. Blitz turned to him with widened eyes, which were gleaming brightly. Instead of responding, he pulled Stolas into a tight hug, a hug which Stolas didn’t mind to return.

Stolas’ smile widened as he felt the warmth coursing through his body. Both of their eyes fluttered shut, embracing the feeling.

But as they continued to feel, both of them were thinking the same dreadful thought.

Notes:

What is it they’re both thinking? It should be obvious, but at the same time, not.
