Chapter Text
This was the first time Hunter had been asked out… ever. He never got too much time for friends, especially potential girlfriends, during his time as “the Golden Guard.” How stupid of a title, he thought. Now, he actually has time for this, he has a chance, and he's not exactly sure what to do with it. Obviously, he likes Willow. He was pretty sure he knew that from the moment they first talked. He still wasn’t sure, though. Could he really trust his feelings about someone he *just* met? He needed the day to think about this whole situation.
Willow is freaking out. Not in a visual way, though. Mentally. Every ding she got from her phone, she immediately looked to check if it was the boy she gave her number to. A few videos from Luz. A random email from some company she didn’t unsubscribe from. A random text from someone who was definitely NOT Hunter. None of these were him. If she was being honest, she was starting to lose hope. When she made the decision to give him her number, she wasn’t even sure about that. She only did it because she trusted Luz, anyway. What if she was wrong? After all, she only knew what Willow told her. This sort of overthinking took over her mind throughout the entire day, until she got home from work and her phone buzzed again.

Turns out, Hunter did wait the whole day to text Willow. She’s now, yet again, freaking out. Keep your cool. It’s just a text conversation.

So this is actually happening, Hunter thought to himself. This girl he just met yesterday is now trying to really go on a date with him. He felt like he was in some fast-paced love story. Honestly, his thoughts seem pretty calm now that the date is planned. He is thinking a little about what it’ll be like, but it’s not taking over his mind. He decides that he should get some sleep and think about it in the morning.
Almost immediately, Willow has to tell someone about this. She’s literally going on her first date ever, and she doesn’t know whether to feel happy, scared, or whatever mix of the two she prefers. So, she decides to tell the very person that convinced her to do all this, Luz. She calls her number, waits for her to answer, and…
“Hey, Willow! What’s up?”
“Okay, so you’re never gonna believe what just happened,” Willow replied.
“What is it??”
“Hunter texted me, and we texted for a while, and now we’re going on a date tomorrow.”
“Oh my god, my plan worked!” Luz exclaims.
“Yeah, it did. I can’t thank you enough for your amazing idea.”
“So, what are the details? I should get to know, since I kind of started this whole thing.”
Willow giggles and explains, “I actually never told him. I just told him that it’s a surprise and to meet me at my house tomorrow.” She went on, “But my plan is to go to the arcade with him.”
“Wow, it’s actually surprising that the person that’s never been on a date is actually planning one. And one that’s actually good,” Luz added.
“Thanks for the…” Willow pauses. “...compliment? I’m not sure if it is or not.”
They both dissolve into laughter for a few seconds.
Luz continues the conversation, “It is, I promise. Glad my girl-crush advice could help with your boy crush.”
“I’m literally pan! It’s not like gender matters to me anyways,” Willow replies.
“I'm literally part of the same community!” Luz giggles. “Anyways, Amity’s calling me because I’m her awesome girlfriend. I’ll talk to you later. Let me know how your little date goes.”
“Thanks, I will! Talk to you later,” Willow says before hanging up with a smile, knowing that someone else has her back on this.
Now that she’s had the time to talk about it for a minute, Willow thinks—knows—she’s more happy than scared. She knows she’s got this. It’s just an arcade date. She’ll be fine. It’ll be great.
