Chapter Text

“Max? Maaxxx!” David calls out, trudging through the plantation despite the droplets of rain pelting down on him. It’s only been a few days since he’s last seen Max, but his absence is unsettling…David would take max wreaking havoc on the camp over completely disappearing any day.

Neil and Nikki weren’t much help either. During lunch in the mess hall, David had noticed Max was yet to emerge from his tent. So he sauntered over to where Neil and Nikki were engaged in some talk about magic and science, it looked to be getting pretty intense, so David’s sure they’d be pleased to have a break!

“Heyyy, campers! Have either of you seen Max today?” David inquired, tapping his chin with his finger and scanning over the hall. Neil and Nikki glanced at each other, shrugged, and turned back towards David. Neil spoke up,

“Uhm…I think I heard him leave the tent sometime last night? He wasn’t there this morning.”

Nikki nodded in agreement, then added a comment of her own,

“Oh yeah! He’s probably somewhere scheming, y’know, Max stuff!”

Though they seemed unbothered, as well as the rest of the camp, David wasn’t as convinced. Max wasn’t anywhere to be seen! What if he’s hurt!? Or taken by the wood scouts again! He paced the counsellor’s cabin, while Gwen sat down, not looking up from her book.

“Where could he be? I just don’t know what he’s up to this time.” David exclaimed, earning a simple hum in reply.

Max was yet to return by the setting sun the next day, and so David set out to find him. To be sure Max wasn’t just hiding from him somewhere in the camp, he made sure to do a thorough search through the place, once he was sure the child was missing, he made his way to the counsellors cabin to let Gwen know he was going out.

“Gwen, I’m going to go find Max, can you take care of the other campers while I’m gone?” David swung the door open and asked her quickly.

“Wait, David we have-“ Gwen started, before being cut off by David again,

“Thanks Gwen! I’ll pay you back some other time! Counsellor buddies for life!” And with that, he left (much to Gwen’s dismay).
