Chapter Text
After a shift that lasted for eternity, you finally come back home. This day was horrible, but not necessarily because the customers sucked ass or because the AC broke, letting the 30°C weather get into the gas station. No. It was because you realized how much you're wasting away. Yeah, this job was "temporary" and you were going to do something else after, but was there really something to look forward to? Was there anything left for you? Any friends? Anyone who cares about you? I mean, yeah, there was Doe, but you really feel like you're just an obsession to him, rather than a lover. Still, you wish you're more. Every moment of your life, you think of the first time you let him in. Or, at least, the first you remembered.
He looked so genuinely concerned, so worried about you. So worried FOR you. Even if his expression quickly changed, those few moment where he seemed to genuinely care about your safety and the fact that you were willing to let a stranger inside your house, those moments are enough to fill you with a bit of hope, even if just for a while.
You reached for the door handle with a sigh, but before you could even press it down, the door was yanked open from the inside. You couldn't even react as a familiar mass of curly hair wrapped the arms of its fake human body around you so tightly you could barely breathe. It felt warm, and slightly uncomfortable, and the force at which your beloved regular guy lunged at you nearly knocked you down, but it was still somewhat pleasant. Well, NEARLY knocking you down wasn't enough. He then properly and intentionally knocked you to the floor.
"I missed you so so so much~" he coos, burying his head inbetween your neck and shoulder, similing (as always) against your skin.
His enthusiasm was somewhat comforting. You weakly wrap your arms around him in return, barely squeezing enough to call it a hug, and you burry your face in his hair. You didn't realize when it happened, but you started silently crying. In fact, the first to notice was Doe, who softly pulled away and looked at you with his rare look of concern.
"Did I hurt you? I'm sorry, I didn't realize..."
"N-no, i-it's nothing, I-I...I'm sorry, I..."
You could barely form any words, and it wasn't long untill you properly broke down. Doe gently picked you up from the apartment complex' floor and took you inside, his hair closing the door behind him, and sat you on the couch. He then laid by your side and hugged you gently, without the usual, crushing force in his embrace. Just a soft, loving hug.
He doesn't say anything, which is surprising, but you appreciate his silence. The two of you stay like that, cuddled up on the couch, while you cry silently, only a few weak sobs breaking the silence every now and then. When you finally gather the force to form coherent sentences, you decide to talk to him.
"Doe... Do you... Do you care about me? I know you love me, but do you care?"
He looks down at you with a soft expression, then he raises his hand to cup your cheek.
"Of course I do, 'You'. You're the most important being in my life. Of course I care"
You sniffle a bit, trying to stop your tears, but you simply can't. He brings your head to his chest and gently coaxes you to lay on him. You stay like that for a bit more, until you finally stop crying. You then sit up and look at him.
Of course, his creepy grin is now back on his face, but honestly? You wouldn't want it any other way.
"Aww, are you feeling better now~?"
You nod gingerly, but before you could form any words, he leans in to lick your tears off your face, his long and uncomfortably warm tongue gliding across your skin.
"I'm so so so so glad you're okay~"
The both of you chuckle and he gently bites you cheek once he's done with your tears. Yep, this is definitely your beloved hairball. Creepy and gross, but also sweet and caring when needed. You're greatfull to have him in your life.
