Work Text:
Gone, completely absent from the void they both resided within.
Had the day finally arrived? Yet another brought elsewhere from the abyss? It hadn’t been long enough, it wasn’t possible, was it?
No, the serpent was most likely looking for others. She had before, so there was a possibility…
Waiting, waiting, for what seemed like an eternity they sat there, face in their book, eyes constantly shifting to their sides as they wished for their partner’s return.
She…In a way, would it not be a good thing if she had escaped from there? The ability to finally meet others, to traverse somewhere other than the black void they had both resided, never having to worry about the loneliness of being the last left residing.
They should have been overjoyed, the one they cared about, the only one who cared about them, finally able to be free…
…So then why did their chest feel so tight thinking about it?
They tried to think about it more, struggling to bring it back into their mind as their breathing began to speed up.
Sitting up, they tugged on their cloak with their hand, the building pressure bringing tears to their eyes, the light of their crown vanishing as it closed it’s eye.
They fell forwards, hearing the water splash beneath them once more…
“...Same dream again?”
Their eyes flew open. Serpent was still here, staring down at them as she held their head.
“It’s going to be fine. Trust me, I’m not leaving you as long as I can help it!”
…
They felt better.
